, 58, formerly of Moretown and more recently of East Topsham, died Jan. 8. Born in 1939 in Moretown, she was the daughter of Clyde and Jessica (Bradley) Spooner. She received her early education in Williamstown and attended Spaulding High School. She worked at Sprague Electric Co. in Barre and as a private duty nurse for several area families. She later worked at the Orange East Senior Center in Bradford and recently volunteered there. She was active in New Hope United Methodist Church in Waits River and West Topsham. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Douglas and Daryl; three daughters, Donna Schauer, Diana Vallie and Doreen Smith; 13 grandchildren; her mother; three brothers; four sisters; several nieces and nephews.

, 90, of Northfield, died Jan. 6. Born in 1907 in Northfield, she was the daughter of Charles and Emma (Sears) Abbott. She attended Northfield schools. In 1927, she married J. Bradley Buck, who died in 1970. She had been employed at the Nadon Knitting Mill in Northfield. Survivors include two sons, Donald and Charles; three sisters; 22 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

, 79, of Northfield, died Jan. 3. Born in 1918 in Graniteville, she was the daughter of Albert and Mary Ann Carbonneau. She was a graduate of Spaulding High School. She was a bookkeeper and accountant for various companies, including National Life Insurance Co., the State of Vermont and Barre Sign Co. Survivors include her husband, Rolland Henry Berard; two sons, Rolland and John; a granddaughter; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

, 59, of Northfield, died Jan. 5. Born in 1938 in North Calais, she was the daughter of Pearly and Annie Mae (Shatney) Laird. She attended schools in Calais and East Corinth. In 1957, she married Harry Knapp, who died in 1977. She was a nurse's aide at Mayo Hospital and later at the Mayo Nursing Home, both in Northfield. She was also a private duty nurse. Survivors include two daughters, Diana (Mrs. David) Wright and Sandra Knapp; a stepdaughter, Cordeila Dixon; four brothers; a sister; three grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

, 73, formerly of Moretown and more recently of McKenzie, Tenn., died Dec. 3, 1997. Born in 1924 in Moretown, he was the son of Howard and Irene (Lewis) LaRose. He attended schools in Moretown and served with the Army during WWII. He was most recently employed as a long distance tractor trailer driver. In 1942, he married Madeline Crowell, who is deceased. He later married Bonita Bean. Survivors include his wife; four sons, Michael, Ronald, Arnold and Rodney; three daughters, Audrey Benson, Ellalou LaRose and Teresa LaRose; 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother; a stepbrother; two sisters; several nieces and nephews.

, 83, formerly of Barre and more recently of Waldoboro, Maine, died Jan. 1. Born in Freedom, N.H., he was the son of Walter and Abby (Walker) Nutter. He was educated in Fryeburg and Parsonfield, Maine and graduated from Piper Free Academy in Parsonfield. He graduated from Gorham (Maine) State College. He began teaching industrial arts in Norridgewock, Maine and later taught in Rockland and Winslow, Maine and in Conway, N.H. He later was employed as an independent contractor. He came to Barre and taught at Spaulding High School, moved to Ohio and then to Rutland, returning to Barre in 1964 as the director of the vocational and adult education program at the Barre Vocational and Technical Center. He retired in 1979 and moved back to Maine. He maintained his membership at the Barre Congregational Church. Survivors include his wife, Edith (McLain) Nutter; two sons, Barry and Stephen; two daughters, Beverly Wolfer and Louise Cross; three sisters; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

, 99, of Randolph, died Jan. 3. Born in 1898 in Randolph, she was the daughter of Albert and Mina (Albin) Tatro. She was educated in Randolph schools and graduated from Randolph High School. In 1920, she married Gordon LaBounty, who died in 1985. They owned and operated a dairy farm in Randolph. She was a member of the Bethany United Church of Christ. Survivors include a son, Kermit; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

He attended North Barre School and South Barre School and graduated from Spaulding High School. In 1951, he married Rina Gherardi. He was employed by the Coca Cola Bottling Co. of Barre. He had served in the Marines and was a member of the Barre Universalist Church. Survivors include his wife; his mother; two daughters, Kathie Louis and Karen Gendron; four grandchildren; a brother; two sisters; nieces and nephews.

She moved to Barre and attended St. Monica School, graduating from St. Michael's High School in Montpelier. She graduated from Sacred Heart School of Nursing in Manchester, N.H. and was a nurse at Barre City Hospital. She also worked at Central Vermont Hospital and at Waterbury State Hospital. In 1953, she married Robert Fraser. She was a member of St. Monica Church. Survivors include her husband; two sons, John and Mark; two daughters, Mary Floyd and Ellen Query; three grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

She was a member of the ministering community of St. Dunstan's Church (Episcopal) in Waitsfield. Palmer, who died in 1980. They had farmed in Riverton before moving to Northfield. She worked in area restaurants before establishing her own housekeeping business in Northfield. Survivors include a daughter, Marilyn (Mrs. William) Murphy; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.

She taught school at Lincoln School in Barre, prior to retirement. She was a member of the Bethany United Church of Christ. , 78, of Randolph Center, died Jan. 14. Born in 1920 in Brookfield, he was the son of Archie and Flora (Stoddard) McPhetres. He was educated in South Randolph schools and Kelsey Mountain School in Tunbridge. He graduated from South Royalton High School and from the Vermont State School of Agriculture in Randolph Center. He served with the Army Air Corps Signal Corps during WWII. In 1948, he married Marian Adams, who died in 1994. He was a farmer in Randolph Center and also postmaster in Randolph, retiring in 1989. He was a member of Randolph Center Congregational Church. Survivors include a son, Marc; three daughters, Betsy Stratton, Bonnie Allen and Beryl McPhetres; 10 grandchildren.
