, 63, of Barre Town, died Jan. 15. Born in 1935 in Barre Town, he was the son of Eddie and Mertie (Payne) Batchelder. He attended Trow Hill School and Spaulding High School. He served in the Air Force, stationed in Germany. He was employed by the former Barre Daily Times and later at the Times Argus as circulation manager. He then worked for Booth Bros. Dairy, retiring in 1996. In 1955, he married Marlene Corriveau. He was a member of the Maranatha Christian Church in Williston. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Cynthia Thompson; two grandchildren; a sister; nieces and nephews.

, 84, formerly of Northfield and more recently of Berlin Heath and Rehab. Center, died Jan. 10. Born in in 1913 in Moretown, she was the daughter of George and Julia (DeLary) Berno. She attended Moretown schools and in 1932, married Edward L. Davis. Mr. Davis died in 1980. She worked at the Clothespin factory in Montpelier, Northfield Wood Products and Vermont Hoisery, both in Northfield. She retired in the mid-60s. Survivors include two sons, Richard and Donald; a daughter, Beatrice Young; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

, 68, of Montpelier, died Jan. 11. Born in 1929 in Wilmington, Del., she was the daughter of Donald and Anne (van Baun) Saterthwait. She attended the University of Delaware, received nurse's training at Memorial Hospital and became a registered nurse. In 1954, she married Douglas R. Johnson. She was a registered nurse at Memorial Hospital in Wilmington, Boston City Hospital, Visiting Nurse Association of Chicago and the Episcopal Hospital in St. Louis, MO. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church of Montpelier. Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Debora and Donna; a son, Daniel; two grandchildren.

, 81, of Brookfield, died Jan. 12. Born in 1916 in Brookfield, he was the son of Fred and Mildred (Cutler) Keyes. He was educated in Brookfield schools and served in the Army during WWII. He worked for the town of Brookfield Highway Department, retiring in 1982. After retirement he worked in the maintenance department at Norwich University. Survivors include a sister, Eva (Mrs. Cecil) Thompson; nieces and nephews.

, 68, of Williamstown, died Jan. 12. Born in 1929 in Brookfield, she was the daughter of Sidney and Amy (Abbey) Allen. She attended Brookfield School. In 1950, she married Robert Pierce. In 1988, she married Philip Jewett. She was a nurse's aide at the Mayo Hospital in Northfield, Rowan Court Nursing Home in Barre, St. Jude Nursing Home in South Barre and McFarland House in Barre. She retired due to ill health. Survivors include her husband; five daughters, Jean Adams, Roberta Gagne, Patricia Shedd-Maher, Sandra Morris and Sue Busby; a son, Michael; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother; two sisters; nieces and nephews.

, 43, of Greensboro, died Jan. 9. Born in 1954 in St. Johnsbury, he was the son of Edward H. and Jane (Sinnott) Hill. He attended public schools in Greensboro. He worked for many years with his father on the family farm and also on sugaring operations and haying. He enjoyed outdoor sports and snowplowing. Survivors include his father of Greensboro; his mother of Hardwick; a daughter, Christine Bellavance; a stepson, Dale Hall; a brother; four sisters; an uncle; several nieces and nephews.

, 75, formerly of Washington and more recently of Strafford, died Jan. 10. Born in 1922 in Washington, he was the son of Claude E. and Nellie (Cook) Clark. He attended the Washington School and served in the Army during WWII. He was a self-employed logger and later worked for Stoddard Lumber in Stockbridge. He also worked at Strafford Copper Mines, Eastern Magnesium Talc Co. and S.T. Griswold Construction Co., retiring in 1970. In 1942, he married Frances N. Wood. They had lived in Sharon before moving to Strafford. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Karl and Douglas; four daughters, Patricia Hammond, Beverly Moses, Diane Clark and Sherrie Benard; three brothers; two sisters; 15 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

She moved to Barre 15 years ago. Survivors include three sons, Bruce, Dale and Dean; two daughters, Eleanor Spaulding and Karen Perry; a brother; 14 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

Her husband, John Henry Miner, predeceased her. She was a communicant of Holy Angels Church. Survivors include a son, Robert; a granddaughter, Melissa Ann Miner.

Sharpe, Clarence A., 91, of Bethel, died Jan. 11. Born in 1906 in Bethel, he was the son of John and Florence (Soper) Sharpe. He was educated in Bethel schools. He farmed in the Locus Creek area of Bethel, retiring in the early 1960s. There are no survivors.

He graduated from Spaulding High School, attended Goddard Seminary and later graduated from Palmer Chiropractic College in Iowa. He was employed as a mail carrier in Barre Town as a young man and was a veteran of WWI. He owned and operated Blanchard Chiropractic in South Hampton, N.H., retiring in 1986. His first wife, Ruth Barber, died in the early 40s. His second wife, Mildred Coffin, also predeceased him. Survivors include a daughter, Galene Hovey; a granddaughter; a grandson; three great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

, 86, of Montpelier, died Jan. 20. Born in 1911 in New York City, he was the son of Samuel and Bertha (Mae) Celler. He graduated from high school in New York City and attended New York University. In 1935, he married Helen Appel, who died in 1988. They moved to Montpelier in 1985. He had been a wine and liquor merchant and wine consultant in Queens, N.Y., for many years. Survivors include two daughters, Linda Johnson and Dorothy Weiss; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
