, 88, of Randolph died May 27. Born in 1909 in Glasgow, Scotland, he was the son of John and Elizabeth (McInnes) Houston. He attended schools in Glasgow, Montreal and Norwich, Conn. In 1937, he married Phyllis Airey. They moved to Randolph in 1976. He had worked for Central Vermont Railroad in Conn. and in New York City. He was transferred to St. Albans, and retired in 1969. He was a member of Bethany United Church of Christ in Randolph. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Patricia Hefflon and Carol Tufts; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

, 74, of East Hardwick, died May 23. Born in 1924 in Woodbury, he was the son of Charles and Marjorie (Haskins) King. He attended Woodbury public schools. He was a farmer in the Woodbury area and road commissioner for many years. He was employed in the road construction and landscaping business retiring in 1985. He had been married to Alice Puffer. He was affiliated with the South Woodbury Congregational Church. Survivors include a son, Charles; four daughters, Nancy Ewen, Bonnie Hanson, Linda Gallison and Norma Blake; a brother; a sister; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He attended Tunbridge Central School, South Royalton High School and later received his GED. He had farmed on the Russell Jersey Dairy Farm. In 1990, he married Debora M. Rogers. He was a member of South Tunbridge Methodist Church. Toomey, who died in 1969. They owned and operated the R.E. Toomey Oil Company. She was a member of St. Anthony's Church in Bethel. Survivors include two brothers, Charles Orticari and Otto Orticari; several nieces and nephews.

He was a member of Bethel Christian Fellowship Church in South Royalton. He started a small farm in East Montpelier after retiring. He was a member of St. Monica Church. He moved to Barre from England in 1948. He had worked delivering fuel in the central Vermont area and later drove truck for Sunbeam Bread Co. He operated an auto service station in Barre and later was employed as a truck driver for Associated Memorial, retiring in the mid-1980s. In 1960, he married Lorena C. Lawson, who died in 1996. Survivors include a son, John; two granddaughters; twin great-grandchildren; two brothers; nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and cousins.

She graduated from St. Mary's Academy in Burlington and Bay Path Junior College in Longmeadow, Mass. She had worked at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. during WWII and as a concierge at several resorts. In 1966, she married Edgar Warner, who died in 1976. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church in Northfield. Survivors include a brother, Paul Bean; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

, 75, of Washington, died May 30. Born in 1923 in Barre, he was the son of Arthur and Helen (Cook) Beede. He attended Washington Elementary School, and Williamstown and Spaulding high schools. He served in the Army during WWII. In 1944, he married Mavis Twitchell. He had worked with his father as a truck driver, bulldozer operator and logger. He later worked for the town of Washington as a laborer and road commissioner. He also served as selectman. He was on the Washington Fire Department and served as Orange County deputy sheriff and a Vermont Fish and Game warden. Before retiring, he worked for Barre Town Highway Department. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Carlyn and Chester Jr.; a daughter, Sherry Collins; five grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; his step-mother; a sister; a brother; five half-brothers; two half-sisters; many nieces and nephews.

She graduated from Brockton High School, attended Notre Dame Academy in Montreal and graduated from Pierce Business School in Boston. In 1941, he married Louis Duhamel. She was employed at WBZ radio station in Boston and later worked as assistant to the food editor at the Boston Herald Traveler. She was also a bookkeeper and was employed at the University of Vermont's Bailey Library. She retired in 1974. She was a member of the St. Andrew's Church. Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Paulette Duhamel and Denise Brackett; a son, Peter; three grandchildren; four nieces.

She worked at Heaton Hospital in Montpelier, Jones Nursing Home in Montpelier and St. Jude Nursing Home in Barre. In 1955, she married Herbert Ralph Ayer, who died in 1984. she was a member of the First Baptist Church in Montpelier. Survivors include two sons, Wesley and Walter; three daughters, Ruth Lamoureux, Darlene Haupt and Vivian R. Raggensack; eight grandchildren; a sister.
