, 83, of Lower Graniteville, died May 4. Born in 1915 in East Barre, he was the son of William and Ida Compo. He attended Barre Town schools. In 1941, he married Arlene Payne, who died in 1980. He was employed as a hoist operator for Rock of Ages Corp., retiring in 1980. Survivors include six daughters, Sylvia Wescott, Norma Anderson, Susan Dion, Martha Longway, Gail Baker and Diana Henderson; four sons, Edward, Mark, Peter and Douglas; 19 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a sister; several nieces and nephews.

, 81, of North Randolph, died May 3. Born in 1918 in South Royalton, he was the son of Edwin and Emma (Hamilton) Cushing. He was a canine handler during WWII and was a professional mason until he retired. His wife, Shirley (Hall) Cushing, predeceased him. Survivors include two daughters, Gail Meve and Kay Odom; four sisters; seven grandchildren; a great-grandson.

Born in 1914 in St. Johnsbury, she was the daughter of Herbert and Alice (Kaiser) Spaulding. she graduated from Craftsbury Academy and late from Lyndon State College. She began teaching in Craftsbury and retired from the East Albany Hillside School in 1982, as principal. In 1936, she married Donald Johnson, who died in 1991. She was a communicant at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Craftsbury. Survivors include four children, David, Douglas, Donna Long and Darlene Johnson; 16 great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law and several nieces and nephews.

, 95, of Moretown, died May 4. Born in Moretown, he was the son of Roy and Mary Williams. He attended school at the Cox Brook School and later graduated from the eighth grade from the Gray School in Northfield. He worked at Roxbury Marble Quarries, the Woolen Mills, delivered and collected milk, drove children to school, worked on the railroad between Roxbury and Northfield, fired the steam engine, drove truck for Roy Smith and worked with the Northfield Telephone Company. In 1940, he married Margaret Luna Braman, who died in 1977. He was a member of St. Johns Catholic Church of Northfield. Survivors include two sons, Richard and Jim; one daughter, Theresa Parker; five grandchildren.

, 104, died May 4. Born in 1895 in Navajeda, Spain, he was the son of Silvino and Consuelo Alvarez. He was educated in Spain and came to the United States in 1910. He worked in the stone sheds and then learned the meat trade from his uncle. He later went to Hardwick and ran a meat cart from Hardwick to Greensboro. He returned to Montpelier and worked at Standish's Market and Brooks Meat and Grocery. He opened his own meat and grocery business, the Capital Market in 1928. In 1993, at the age of 98, he sold the Capital Market and retired. In 1923, he married Josephine Ghiringhelli. Survivors include his wife; his children, Raymond and Evelyn Trono; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a brother.

, 84, of Barre, died recently. Born in 1914 in Barre, he was the son of John and Margaret Ann (Murray) Shea. He attended Barre schools and Spaulding High School. He worked as a sandblaster for several area granite sheds, retiring from Rouleau Granite Co. in 1979. He later worked for the Granite Bank in Barre. He was a member of St. Monica's Church. Survivors include a son, David; a granddaughter; nieces and nephews.

, 64, of Montpelier, died May 11. Born in 1934 in Chazy, N.Y., he was the son of Willis and Marion (Murray) Jarvis. He graduated from Windsor High School. In 1954, he married Patricia Romano. In 1968, he married Lucy Lawton Ladd. He served as a sergeant in the Vermont National Guard from 1957 to 1963 and worked as a master plumber for the Shepherd Corp. in White River Junction. He was also a cook for the Marriott Food Services at Norwich University, before retiring due to ill health. Survivors include two sisters, Shirley Wakefield and Lucina Rocamora; five brothers, James, Robert, Donald, Jerry and Paul; many nieces and nephews.

He graduated from Spaulding High School and continued his education at Rensselear Polytechnic Institute receiving a BS degree in physics. He was employed with IBM in Essex Junction and more recently pursued his career with firms in Texas and Oregon. Survivors include his mother and stepfather, David; three brothers, Kim, Scott and Craig; two stepbrothers, John Reid and David Reid Jr.; three stepsisters, Betsy Reid, Sylvia Oliver and Sarah Schroeder; a former sister-in-law, Karin Morrow; a niece and three nephews.

, 65, of Moretown, died May 10. Born in 1934 in Duxbury, he was the son of Meridan and Mildred (Farnsworth) Grandfield Sr. He attended Moretown schools. In 1956, he married Barbara Ferris. He worked for Ward Lumber Co. and G. T. Evans Logging Co., both in Moretown. He was later employed as caretaker for Harlow Carpenter in Warren and as a heavy equipment operator for the town of Moretown. He retired in 1996. He was a former member and past chief of Moretown Volunteer Fire Department. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Teresa Freeman and Jennine Poulin; four sons, Randy, Stuart, Monty and Robert; eight grandchildren; four sisters; two brothers; nieces and nephews.

She moved to East Barre at age three and attended East Barre schools and Spaulding High School. In 1932, she married Elwin Sanborn, who died in 1970. She had worked for many years in Barre retail stores including Puritan Clothing and the Youth Centre. She was a member of East Barre Congregational Church and the Barre Congregational Church. Survivors include two sons, Mayo and Earl; five grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

He also worked for Summit Construction and Miller Concrete Inc. He also cut and sold Christmas trees for many years. Survivors include his wife; a son, Arthur; a daughter, Barbara; four sons from a previous marriage, Normand, Gaeton, Fernand and Yvan; four sisters; many nieces and nephews.

He joined the Vermont State Police in 1954, retiring in 1954 as director of Communications. In 1951, he married Vivian Bilodeau, who died in 1997. He was a communicant of St. Monica's Church in Barre. Survivors include one daughter, Judy Pluta; two sons, Gary and Thomas; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

She attended West Topsham Elementary School and was a graduate of the former Goddard Seminary in Barre. She also graduated from Mary Fletcher Hospital School of Nursing in Burlington. She worked as a registered nurse, retiring in 1979. In 1947, she married Raymond Dunn. Survivors include her husband; one daughter, Lena Foster; one son, Lawrence; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; two nieces.
