, 71, of Dane Hill, West Charleston, passed away in Burlington on Thursday, May 30, 2002. She was born in Derby, Conn., June 30, 1930, the daughter of John and Josephine Saroka. On June 25, 1948, Anna married Alexander Karasinski, who survives her. She and Al moved to Vermont from Seymore, Conn., 14 years ago. Anna loved to cook and loved her grandchildren. Besides her husband, she is survived by her children, John Karasinski and wife Cindy of Barton; Jim Karasinski and his wife Leta of Irasburg; and Pam Micknak and her husband Robert of Derby; her grandchildren, Michael, Jared, Elizabeth, Erin, Christopher and Susan; and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers and one sister. Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. , 28, of 530 Ash Hill Road, Lisbon, died suddenly Thursday, May 30, 2002, at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H. He was born in Bridgeport, Conn. He lived in Connecticut much of his life and then spent time in Bethlehem before moving to Lisbon. He had worked at Genfoot America as a machine operator. He enjoyed the guitar, photography and fishing. He is survived by his mother Jo-Ann St. Marie, Lisbon; Rocky McDowell, Connecticut; a brother Christopher St. Marie, Lisbon; two sisters, Virginia Hudson, Claremont, N.H., and Heidi St. Marie, Ansonia, Conn.; and nieces and nephews. A gathering of family and friends will be held Monday evening, June 3, 2002, at the Ross Funeral Home, Lisbon Chapel, from 4-6 p.m., with a funeral service to follow at 6 p.m.

, 60, of Red Village Road, Lyndon, died suddenly at her home, Saturday morning, June 1, 2002. She was born Nov. 20, 1941 in Queens, N.Y., the daughter of the late Joseph and Laila (Bruu) Mayer. On Feb. 23, 1958, she married Everett D. Berry. They moved from Poughkeepsie, N.Y. to Lyndon in 1966. Pat had worked several years for the Lyndon Campus School hot lunch program and later worked for Hovey's Shops in St. Johnsbury. Pat had been the secretary/treasurer of WIBC, the women's international bowling association, for several years. She was a member of the Caledonia County Fair Association for many years and was in charge of Pandora's Box there. She was a volunteer at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital, the Lyndon Institute Alumni Association and the Lyndon Institute Booster Club. A woman with a passion for bowling, Pat was captain of the Berry Spare Tire bowling team. She also enjoyed gardening, golf, volleyball and spending time at camp. She loved family gatherings and was well-known for her creative Christmas lighting and decorations. Pat was an avid Celtics, Red Sox and Redskins fan as well. Survivors include her husband of 44 years, Everett Berry of Lyndon; three daughters, Corinne "Coco" Sacket and sons Ben and Ian of Lyndon, Janine Silvey and companion Chris Duncan and children Stephen Gogan, Michael Silvey and Carter John Duncan (born May 31, 2002) of Newbury, Fla., and Darlene Johnson and husband Mark and children Chad and Brandy Cole of Lyndonville; a son, Eric Berry and wife Meridith and daughter Jade of Lyndon; a brother, Joseph Mayer and wife Judy of Stony Brook, Long Island, N.Y.; three sisters-in-law, Ladoska "Sis" Currence and husband Orville "Bud" of Mabie, W.Va., Ida Berry of Lyndonville, and Betty Van Echaute of Pine Plains, N.Y.; and nieces, nephews and many dear friends. She was predeceased by her son-in-law, John Sackett, this past January; and two brothers-in-law, Edwin and Richard Berry. Friends may meet with the family Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Guibord Funeral Home. , 87, of Woodsville, died Sunday, June 2, 2002, at the Cottage Hospital in Woodsville after an extended illness. Mr. Maccini had been a resident of the Grafton County Nursing Home for the past three years. He was born in Wellesley, Mass., Oct. 29, 1914, the son of Charles and Albena (Bergonzi) Maccini. He graduated from Woodsville High School. Joe served with the U.S. Army during World War II in the North African Campaign, Invasion of Sicily, Invasion of Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge, and he spent time in England preparing for these campaigns. Joe rose from the rank of private to first lieutenant and received numerous medals. Joe worked in commercial trucking as a manager for Quinn Freight Lines, Gleason and Hemmingway Trucking; and he managed the Woodsville Bowling Lanes which was a family-run business. He retired in 1978. He was a member of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church in Woodsville; Precinct Commissioner for Woodsville; a 25-year member and former Fire Chief of the Woodsville Fire Department; member of the Haverhill Police Department for 15 years; member of the the Woodsville Wells River Cohase Lions Club and member of the Ross-Wood Post 20 American Legion, Woodsville. From 1977 to 1997 Joe and his wife Eve wintered in Palmetto Point, Fla., and summered in Pittsburg, N.H. Mr. Maccini was predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Evangeline "Eve" (Merrill) Maccini, on Jan. 6, 1999; one son, Stephen M. Maccini, on Oct. 11, 1967; and eight siblings. Surviving relatives include three sons, Joseph C. and Robert A. Maccini, both of Woodsville, and Peter D. Maccini of Bow, N.H.; six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be held Wednesday, June 5, at 11 a.m., at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Pine Street, Woodsville. Father Daniel Sinibaldi, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in the St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Cemetery in Bath, N.H. , 82, died Monday, June 3, 2002, at the St. Johnsbury Health and Rehabilitation Center after a long struggle with Alzheimer's Disease. She was born March 15, 1920, in Boston, Mass., the daughter of Walter and Winifred (McFarlan) Miller. Her parents, and older brother, John, predeceased her. She was educated in the public schools of Boston and was a graduate of Boston's Girls High School. She was also a graduate of Stonier School of Banking at Rutgers University. During World War II she worked for and traveled widely, gathering and compiling statistics for the United States Department of Labor. When the veterans reclaimed their jobs she returned to Boston and started work with the Bank of Boston, which was at that time the largest bank in New England. In an age when the banking system was dominated by men, she was the first woman to be made a trust officer, an assistant vice president, and then a vice president of the bank, opening doors for women who followed her. She and her husband Albert were married in Beverly, Mass., March 14, 1971. While living in Beverly she was active in and enjoyed the First Federated Church, where she served as moderator, the Beverly Improvement Association, the Beverly Cove Improvement Association, the Friendly Garden Club, the Beverly Public Library (where she served several times as trustee), and the Friends of the Beverly Public Library. Nationally, she served as trustee of the Pension Fund of the United Church of Christ. She was also very active in the formation of the National Association of Bank Women. Susan and her husband enjoyed traveling and had many wonderful trips through the United States and Europe. After their retirement, they moved to Vermont in 1990, spending winters at their condo in Naples, Fla., until she was no longer able to travel. In Vermont she enjoyed the North Congregational Church, the St. Johnsbury Athenaeum, the Seed and Weed Club, auctions and antiquing. She is survived by her husband Albert of West Burke; her sisters-in-law and their husbands, Joyce and Ernest Racenet of Danville and their children, and Edith and Otis Carleton of Sutton and their children; her "second family," Waldo and Pearl Dodge of Hilton Head, S.C. and their children Rhett and Pamela; and several cousins. Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 6, at 2 p.m., at the North Congregational Church in St. Johnsbury, with the Rev. Jay Sprout officiating. Burial will be held at Passumpsic Cemetery at the convenience of the family. There will be no visiting hours. , 92, of 55 Union St., Littleton, died Wednesday, May 29, 2002, at the Lafayette Center in Franconia. Born in Bristol, Tenn., Dr. Copenhaver was the son of Meek Hampton Copenhaver and Molly (Betts) Copenhaver. He grew up in Tennessee. He was a graduate of the College of William and Mary in Virginia, where he was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. In 1933 he received his M.D. from the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, Va. After serving in the Civilian Conservation Corps in Oxford, Miss., Dr. Copenhaver, along with his beloved wife Ann, came to North Woodstock, N.H., to fill in for his brother, Dr. Leslie Betts Copenhaver. Soon after, the couple moved into the present Copenhaver home on Union Street in Littleton. In this home, he and Ann raised their family and he ran a very busy medical practice from 1936 until his retirement in 1977. His was a wide-ranging general practice, including general surgery, obstetrics and many house calls. He was very active at the Littleton Hospital during his entire practice, serving at one time as chief of staff. Dr. Copenhaver was an active member of the community, having served as a member of both the school and planning boards. He served as president of the Littleton Rotary Club and was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He was the founding member of the "Grandfather's Club," which still meets each Friday at noon. Its purpose is to socialize and brag about children and grandchildren. Along with many fellow physicians, Dr. Copenhaver could be found on Thursdays at Cannon Mountain. He was an avid skier and water skier, which he did at his camp on Partridge Lake. His wife Ann and his brother, Betts, both predeceased him in 2000. He is survived by his three children, Charles W. Copenhaver Jr. of Aachen, Germany, Robert H. Covenhaver of Littleton, and Joyce Copenhaver Thoma of Easton; a granddaughter, Zoe C. Copenhaver of Boston, Mass.; a son-in-law, Christopher Thoma of Easton; a daughter-in-law, Irene "Muffy" Copenhaver of Littleton; three nieces and a nephew. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, July 16,at 11 a.m., at the First United Methodist Church, Littleton, with a reception to follow at his home at 55 Union Street. Burial services will be private. The Ross Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. , 83, of South Burlington, passed away Saturday, June 1, 2002, at Lake Seymour in Morgan at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Miriam and Richard Aiken, following a brief illness and with family at her side. She was born Oct. 27, 1918, in Island Pond, a daughter of Leon and Ella (Gammon) Currier. She graduated from Brighton High School in Island Pond in 1937 and from the Brightlook Hospital School of Nursing in St. Johnsbury in September 1940, where she received her RN degree. Florence was united in marriage to Erwin Richards Nov. 9, 1940, in Island Pond. He predeceased her June 21, 1983. She and her husband spent much time at Seymour Lake, a place she dearly loved and where she summered as a youth. While living in Newport in the late 1940s, she worked at O.C.M. Hospital. Prior to moving to South Burlington in 1956, she resided in Shelburne, where she was a member of the Methodist church. She was a member of Senior Citizens of South Burlington, where she enjoyed playing bingo and attending other functions. She is survived by three daughters, Dianna Henning and husband Kam Vento of Janesville, Calif., Miriam Aiken and husband Richard of Morgan, Vt., and Rebecca (Manjula) Leggett and partner John Bombard of Burlington; a sister, Viola Wheeler of Derby Line; eight grandchildren, Sean Henning of San Francisco, Calif., Kristopher Henning of Portland, Ore., Sarah Jenkins of Petaluma, Calif., Timothy Aiken of Westford, Vt., Todd Aiken of Burlington, Tamara Sasso of Essex Junction, and Tristan Leggett and Shannon Leggett of South Burlington; eight great-grandchildren; a former son-in-law, Raymond Leggett of Huntington, Vt.; numerous nieces and nephews; grand-nieces and grand-nephews; and many special friends. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a sister, Marjory Seguin of Morgan, Vt. Florence dearly loved her grandchildren, all of whom played a significant role in her life. A memorial service will be held at the First Methodist Church in Shelburne, Vt., at 2 p.m., Wednesday, June 5. Arrangements are through Corbin and Palmer of Burlington. , 71, of 35 Bishop St., Littleton, died suddenly at his residence, Monday, June 3, 2002, after a period of failing health. He was a native of Littleton, born Dec. 6, 1930, the son of the late Leslie and Nila (Webb) Clark. Claude was a lifelong resident of the Bethlehem/Littleton area. He was active in local Bethlehem politics, a member of the Bethlehem Volunteer Fire Dept., and the Bethlehem Ski Club. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1949 to 1954, during the Korean Conflict. He was a recipient of the Korean Service Medal; he trained at Sandia Air Force Base in Albuquerque, N.M., for the Atomic Testing Program, and he served at the Kadina Air Force Base in Okinawa, Japan. Claude was very patriotic and involved in the local Howard-Shawney VFW Post 816 over the years. He served as post commander, on the firing squad, and helped out with many community outreach efforts. He held a membership in the Strong-Nourse American Legion Post as well. Claude was a well-known local auto body man at Northern Garage, Hugh J. Gallen Inc. and Thompson Chevrolet. Surviving family members include two sons, Jay and Kellie (Baird) Clark of Littleton, and Tim Clark of Bethlehem; a daughter, Laurie and Jeff Clark-Henault of Sugar Hill; his companion of 17 years, Mary Swinyer of Littleton and her children, Richard and Julie Swinyer of Sharon, Vt., Michael and Kristin Swinyer of Littleton, and Mary and Jim Miller of Bartlett, N.H. Very special to Claude were his grandchildren, Whitney, Christian and Lauren-Sydney Henault of Franconia; Sean, Eric, Meghan and Rilee Clark of Littleton, Paige Swinyer of Littleton, and Gigi and Carter Miller of Bartlett, N.H. , 71, of Harley View Acres, Monroe, N.H., died Tuesday, June 4, 2002, at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital in St. Johnsbury. He was born July 18, 1930 in St. Johnsbury, the son of Harold and Aileen (White) Dunbar. He married Jean Bedell May 11, 1949. Mr. Dunbar was a self-employed plumber most of his life, having previously worked for Sears Roebuck, Fairbanks, and McLarens in Passumpsic. He served as the road agent for the town of Barnet for a short time. He also enjoyed carpentry work. He was predeceased by two brothers, Dean and Robert Dunbar. Surviving relatives include his wife of 53 years, Jean (Bedell) Dunbar; six children, Larry Dunbar and wife Diane, Nancy Ilsley and husband David, Danny Dunbar, Garry Dunbar and wife Martha, Randy Dunbar and wife Barbara, and Pamela Tetreault and husband Paul; 17 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Harold and Dale Dunbar; one sister, Polly Hart; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. There will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be held Thursday, June 6, at 2 p.m., in the Monroe Village Cemetery. The Rev. Melvin Richardson will officiate. , 79, of Inverness, Fla., died at home Monday, June 3, 2002. A native of St. Johnsbury, she was born Feb. 16, 1923. She moved to Florida 15 years ago. She was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Parish. Survivors include one son, Timothy A. Heath of Portland, Ore.; and one daughter, Nancy Heath of Norwood, Mass. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert Heath, April 7, 1994. A Mass of Christian burial will be offered Friday, June 7, at 10 a.m., from Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Florida National Cemetery. Friends may call at the Chas E. She was predeceased by her husband Louis in 1986, and by three sisters, Marion Miller in 1975, Doris Moore in 1979, and Martha Gallagher in 1997. She is survived by two sisters, Charlotte Wheaton of Laguna Woods, Calif., and Helen Desrochers of St. Johnsbury; and several nieces and nephews. , 77, of Rum Hill Road, Bath, N.H., died Wednesday, June 5, 2002, at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H. She was born March 9, 1925 in Whitefield, N.H., the daughter of Everett and Ruth (Blodgett) Hanks. During high school Paulina worked at the Spalding Inn in Whitefield, and after graduation she worked at the Breakers Hotel in Florida. On Aug. 1, 1946, Paulina married Eden D. Aldrich. She had been an active 4-H den mother for the Bath Braves for many years. Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Eden D. Aldrich of Bath; six sons, Everett R. Aldrich and wife Cindy of Bethlehem, Eden Richard Aldrich and wife Susan of Woodsville, James J. Aldrich and wife Pam of North Haverhill, John C. Aldrich and wife Charlene of North Haverhill, Rodney D. "Gerb" Aldrich of Pike, N.H., and Daniel P. Aldrich and wife Carolyn of North Haverhill; one brother, Leonard Hanks of Boscawen, N.H., and two sisters, Charlotte Stone of Penacook, N.H., and Lillian Lees of Peacham, Vt.; 13 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. , 75, of Sheffield and Hudson, Fla., died April 9, 2002 in Newport Richey, Fla. She was born June 15, 1926 in Lyndonville, the daughter of the late Reginald and Muriel (Day) Little. She was a graduate of Lyndon Institute, Class of 1944, and Lyndon Normal School (now Lyndon State College) in 1946. Catherine taught graded school in Peacham for several years. She lived with Kenneth and Ruby Goslant in East Peacham before her marriage on Nov. 24, 1946 to Malcolm "Keith" Allen. Later they moved to Madison, Conn., where she operated a nursery school for two years. Before her retirement in 1987 she worked many years as a secretary for the Connecticut Department of Corrections and lived in Niantic, Conn. She was a member of NCT Green Mountaineers 78 (Masonic Camping Club) of Vermont. Family, camping and traveling brought her much pleasure. Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Malcolm "Keith" Allen of Sheffield and Hudson, Fla.; a daughter, Pamela Henderson and husband Gary of Philadelphia, Pa.; two sons and their wives, William and Elizabeth Allen of Peralta, N.M., and Robert and Lillian Allen of Wallingford, Conn.; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Richard Little of Sarasota, Fla.; and a sister, Carlene Brill and husband Lewis of Sheffield. He was educated there, and was a graduate of Trade High School. He retired from the former U.S. Envelope Company, now WESTVACO. He was club president of the Men's Club of the Salvation Army, a member of the Sixteen Acres Lions Club and a 40-year member of the Lions Club International. He was also a member and past master of Esoteric Lodge, a commander of Springfield Commandery 6, a member of the York Rite-Knights Templar, a member of Melha Temple Shriners Unit and a charter member of Springfield 682 High Twelve International. He was also a member of the Golden Ages Civic Center, Scout Committee Member of Troop 49, a member of the Fellowship of Retired Men, Forest Park Chapter and president of the Wesleyan Men's Club. He was predeceased by his first wife, Jean (Lau) Chin and a son, James Chin. He is survived by his wife, Jeannette (Wilkie) Chin; a son, Louis C. Chin of Springfield; four stepsons, Robert and James Smith of Springfield, Brian Smith of Cherry Hills, N.J., and Stephen Smith of Virginia Beach, Va.; three stepdaughters, Janet Theriague of Tampa, Fla., Patricia Semb of Erving, Mass., and Kudeep Chadda of East Hartford, Conn.; a brother, Thomas Chin of Old Bridge, N.J.; a sister, Helen Chin of San Francisco, Calif.; 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. 73, of Sheffield and formerly of Waterford, died Friday, June 7, 2002, at her residence. The daughter of Wilfred W. and Patricia M. (Bolger) White, Pat was born Oct. 12, 1928, in Boston, Mass. She graduated from the Massachusetts College of Art. Pat married Sidney F. Austin, Sept. 5, 1953. She was a homemaker and volunteered for many years at the Fairbanks Museum and as a volunteer grandparent at Millers Run School. She enjoyed gardening and sharing plants and flowers, music, bird watching and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Pat was a political activist in the Boston area during the 1960s and '70s. Pat is survived by her husband, Sidney of Sheffield; a son, David T. and companion Beverly Jean of Calais; a daughter, Carol A. Woodard and husband Roland of Sheffield; a brother, Thomas B. White of Ocoee, Fla.; in-laws, Perry Austin of Orleans, and Warren and wife Lois Austin of Orleans; grandchildren, Ethan and Catherine Woodard of Sheffield. She was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Patricia B. Austin, a brother, Wilfred W. Austin Jr.; and a close friend and sister-in-law, Frances Beaumier. She was born Oct.19, 1919, in St. Johnsbury, to Benny and Susie (Hilliard) Simonds, and grew up in Dalton, N.H. She graduated from the Lancaster Academy in 1937. She was a member of the Fairhope, Ala., Baptist Church and the Littleton Bible Baptist Church in Littleton. She was the beloved mother of three sons, Thomas of Maidsville, W.Va., David of Hatfield, Pa., and Richard of Lowell, Mass.; a daughter, Marti of Dalton, and a special daughter-in-law, Ellen Faulkner of Portland, Maine. She is also survived by five granddaughters; two grandsons; four great-grandsons; several nieces and nephews; and one brother, Hugh Simonds of Lancaster. She was predeceased by five brothers, Richard, Bradford, Harland, Robert and Harry. A celebration of her life will be held Tuesday, June 11, at 11 a.m., at the Littleton Bible Baptist Church, 94 Union Street, Littleton, officiated by the Rev. 67, of 162 Dells Road, Littleton, died Saturday, June 8, 2002 at Littleton Regional Hospital following an extended illness. She was born Dec. 30, 1934, in Littleton, the daughter of Joseph and Barbara (Baker) Fadden. She was a lifelong resident of Littleton and North Monroe, and prior to retirement had been a legal secretary for attorney David Shepatin, and later at the law firm of Samaha, Vaughan and Shepatin, both in Littleton. Mrs. Ward was a member of the Monroe Grange, the North Monroe United Methodist Church and the New England Jersey Cattle Club, where she had also served as secretary. Mrs. Ward was predeceased by her husband, R. Linfield Ward, Oct. 13, 1993; a granddaughter, Lynn Marie Sherman of Maine; a sister, Connie Parker of Monroe; and a brother, George Fadden of Bakersfield, Calif. Survivors include one son, Joseph L. Ward and wife Sandi of Littleton; two stepsons, Robert C. Ward and wife Dora of Victory, Vt., and R. , 84, of Middle Street, Island Pond, passed away in Lyndonville, Saturday, June 8, 2002. She was born in Island Pond, Feb. 17, 1918, the daughter of Emile and Catherine (Paquette) Morrissette. On April 20, 1940, she married Charles Gray, who survives her. Bernadette was a wonderful homemaker and she and Charles loved to dance together. She was also a very devoted Catholic. Besides her husband, Bernadette is survived by her son, Dalton Gray of Island Pond. She was predeceased by her daughter, Catherine; two brothers, and two sisters. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, June 11, at the Lakeside Catholic Cemetery in Island Pond at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Paul Houde officiating. Interment will follow. , 89, of Meadow Street, Littleton, passed away Monday, June 10, 2002, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in White River Junction, after a brief illness. He was born March 2, 1913, in Lebanon, N.H., a son of Alfred T. and Margaret (Palmer) Durant. Clarence was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1946. He served in the New Hampshire National Guard from 1954 to 1957. Before his military service, he was employed by the Vermont Copper Mine. He moved to Littleton in 1953 and was employed in the construction phase of Moore Dam. After completion of the dam, he was employed at the Bean's Mill as a carpenter in the production of various timber products. Surviving family consists of one son, Ed Moore of Littleton; two sisters, Arlene Powers of Wilder, Vt., and Marguerite Coburn of West Fairlee, Vt.; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Lulu (Eastburn) Durant in 1974, and two brothers, Donald and Ernest Durant. Graveside services will be held Thursday, June 13, at 1 p.m., in the Glenwood Cemetery at the family plot. , 92, died June 9, 2002, at Rowan Court Health and Rehabilitation Center in Barre. She was born in Carroll, N.H., May 26, 1910, the daughter of Wilbur and Jennie D. (Smith) Ewen. She married Simeon Merrill Newton July 18, 1932. He died Oct. 5, 1953. Mrs. Newton was a resident of Bradford for 57 years until moving in November 1998 to Windover House in Randolph, where she lived until May 2001, upon being moved to Rowan Court. She worked for 13 years for Albert and Marjorie Gilmour of Barnet, and at the Atkinson Retirement Home. Cora enjoyed cooking, crafts, gardening, birds and especially the company of young children. She leaves six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three brothers, two sisters, and her only child, Joyce N. Laundry, in February 1994; her son-in-law Pat Laundry in March 1999; and a great-grandson, Justin Laundry in November 1996. A graveside service will be held Thursday, June 13, at 11 a.m., at the Durant Cemetery in Lower Cabot. , 82, of Barnet, died Sunday, June 9, 2002, at the St. Johnsbury Health and Rehabilitation Center, following an extended illness. He was born March 11, 1920, in Groton, the son of Morris and Eva (Heath) Keenan. Mr. Keenan graduated from Groton High School and the Randolph Agricultural School. He married Annette Bergeron, Jan. 28, 1972. He was a self-employed dairy farmer in St. Johnsbury Center for 20 years, and he worked as a job counselor with the Vermont Job Service for 22 years, retiring in 1983. Following retirement, Mr. Keenan worked on the Green Team for EHV-Weidmann in St. Johnsbury. Mr. Keenan attended the Barnet Congregational Church and was a former member of the Farm Bureau. He was predeceased by a son, Kevin Keenan; a brother, Morris Keenan; and a two sisters, Vina Williams and Doris Ricker. Surviving relatives include his wife of 32 years, Annette Keenan of Barnet; son, Kerry Keenan and wife Jeannette of St. Johnsbury; grandchildren, Michael Keenan and wife Melanie and children Ethan, Emily and Noah of Wasilla, Alaska, Kenneth Keenan of Yellowstone National Park, Wyo., Michelle McCaffrey and husband Shawn and son Shea of Lyndonville, and Scott Keenan and daughter Marissa of Springfield, Vt.; two brothers-in-law, Clovis Bergeron and wife Gert of South Troy, and Paul Bergeron and wife Pat of Derby; three sisters-in-law, Marjorie Keenan of St. Johnsbury, Evon Gaskell of West Burke and Fannie Bergeron of Newport Center; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. , 48, of Brownington, died Wednesday, May 29, 2002. Mr. Chapdelaine was born June 15, 1953, in Newport, the son of Robert and Beverly (Barry) Chapdelaine. On Dec. 28, 1994, he married Nancy-Jo Young, who survives him. He was employed by the town of Brownington. He was a member of Orleans Federated Church, where he was also a former youth group leader. He was a former member of the Orleans Fire Department and Orleans Ambulance Squad. He was president of the Bean family reunion. He was also a Boy Scout leader when his son Aaron attended. He enjoyed gardening, flowers, golfing, hunting, canoeing, and especially family gatherings. He will always be remembered in our hearts and thoughts. Besides his wife, he is survived by his parents, Robert and Beverly Chapdelaine of Irasburg; his children, son Aaron and friend Emmi Sweeney of Barton, stepsons Gary Larocque of Brownington, and Joshua Larocque and friend Jenn Davis of Brownington, twin daughters Spryng Chapdelaine of Barton, and Eve Chapdelaine and friend Stephen Thompson of Charlotte, and stepdaughter Amy-Jo Young and friend Paul Morse of Newport Center; his brothers, Michael Chapdelaine and wife Marge of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Gerard Chapdelaine of Brownington; his sisters, Kathryn Young and husband Ed of Newington, Conn., Iris Girard and husband Tom of Newark, Merri Boisvert and husband Bob of Orleans, and Shari Aldrich and husband Alden of Santa Clara, Calif.; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was born in East Haven, Sept. 18, 1931, the daughter of Elroy and Eleanor (Wells) Gero. They predeceased her in 1985. She attended school in East Haven, and graduated from Lyndon Institute, Class of 1949. On Sept. 1, 1951, she married Philip Houghton of Kirby. She worked for Lyndon Teachers College, was a director of the Kirby School District, was town clerk and treasurer of Kirby for many years and served in various town offices in Kirby. For her entire married life, her most important job was managing the Houghton family farm. She attended the former East Lyndon Church. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, Philip Houghton of Kirby; her children, Sandi (Houghton) Aldrich of Burke, Steve Houghton of Kirby and special companion Susan A. , 90, of 127 High Street, Bath, N.H., died June 9, 2002, at the Hanover Terrace Healthcare in Hanover, N.H., after an extended illness. She was born in Bath, Aug. 23, 1911, the daughter of Arthur E. and Mary (Reed) Bailey. Mrs. Schoff was a lifelong resident and served as the Bath Town Clerk for 20 years from 1959 to 1979. Her father had served as the town clerk from 1918 to 1958. Mrs. Schoff also served as the town tax collector from 1964 to 1979. She joined the Pine Grove Grange July 19, 1926 and served as its secretary for many years, and was also a member of the Northern Pomona, N.H., State Grange and the National Grange. A 76-year member of the Bath Congregational Church, she joined on Jan 17, 1926. Mrs. Schoff graduated from Bath High School in 1927, attended Plymouth Normal School, graduating in 1929, and did graduate work at Boston University. She was predeceased by her husband, Haines K. Schoff, Nov. 16, 1994; one sister, Louise Bailey, Feb. 8, 1996; and a brother, Donald Bailey, March 18, 1994. Survivors include one son, Robert M. Schoff of Ashford, Conn.; four daughters, Ruth Pratt of Saxtons River, Vt., Judith Gero of Hinsdale, N.H., Barbara Dickerman of Candia, N.H., and Kathryn Maurer of Wilder, Vt.; 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. , 87, passed away Wednesday, June 12, 2002, at the Pines Rehabilitation and Health Center in Lyndonville. Born Jan. 17, 1915 in Marshfield, he grew up in North Danville where his family ran the store. The three sons drove the Traveling Grocery through the hills of the Northeast Kingdom. This is a time Homer often recalled with pleasure and wonderful stories. He worked at Tap & Die during World War II, ran the Freezer Locker in the late '40s, and was shop foreman at Hills Manufacturing until it closed. Homer did maintenance at St. Johnsbury Academy until his retirement. He was a carpenter, raised pigs, and did window and trailer furnace repair. The retirement home he singlehandedly built for his wife, Elizabeth Gardner Johnson, is on the Back Center Road in Lyndonville. He was a jack of all trades and master of many. Betty and Homer led the largest 4-H club in the state for many years. Homer was loved and cared for by many wonderful people who became his family too. He was predeceased by his wife of nearly 60 years, Betty, in 1997; his brothers Noyle Johnson and David Johnson, and a sister, Rebecca Martz. Survivors include his children, Glenn Johnson and wife Joan, and Teresa Vasko and husband John; grandchildren Billy Joe Johnson, Angela Daniels and husband Jim, John J. Vasko Jr., and Cynthia Vasko; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Madeline Teachout; and many nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held at Woods-Trefren & Pearsons Funeral Home, Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral will be Saturday, June 15, at 2:30 p.m., at Lyndon Center Baptist Church, with the Rev. , 89, of Westfield, Mass., formerly of St. Johnsbury, died Tuesday, June 11, 2002, at the Noble Hospital in Westfield. He was born in St. Johnsbury, Jan. 10, 1913, the son of Donald and Sarah (Fleming) MacIver. He graduated from St. Johnsbury Academy in 1934. Mr. MacIver was a member of the U.S. Air Force, serving his country during World War II, participating in D-Day crossing the Rhine, and spending two years in occupied Japan. He served in the Korean Conflict from 1951 to 1954 in Seoul, South Korea. Ralph received the Bronze Star along with several other decorations. Survivors include his daughter, Jane Murray of Massachusetts; his brother, William "Bill" MacIver of St. Johnsbury; three nieces, Susan and husband Joseph Palmieri of Lyndonville, Ann MacIver of St. Johnsbury, and Nina Sibole of Portsmouth, N.H. He was predeceased by a sister, Mildred S. Robbins, Dec. 25, 2000, and a brother, John MacIver in June 1986. Graveside services will be held Friday, June 14, at 11 a.m., at Mt. , 68, of Greensboro Bend, died Tuesday, June 11, 2002, at Copley Hospital in Morrisville after a lengthy illness. He was born in St. Johnsbury, March 23, 1934, the son of William and Loretta (Cassevah) Massey. He graduated from Greensboro High School, Class of 1952. In 1956 he married Clara Chouinard. Leo operated his own farm until 1986, and he also sugared for Bronislaw Inc. as well as for Maplehurst Farm. Later employment was with Northeast Service Center from 1986 to 1999. He was a communicant of St. Michael's Church, a former usher and member of the Parish Council. Leo enjoyed snowmobiling, was a founding member of the Caspian Sno-Cruisers, and was an avid gardener. Survivors include his wife Clara; his children, Tony Massey and Delores, Joanne Massey and Steve, and David Massey and Laurie; grandchildren, Lisa Massey and Randall Massey; a great-granddaughter, Alysha Hall; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Alice and Arthur Chase; a niece, Brenda Gravel and Dana; a nephew, Denis Chase and Tobi; two great-nieces, Taylor and Leesa Jean, and two great-nephews, Davey and C.J. Leo was predeceased by his parents and a daughter, Claire Louise Massey. 63, of Groveton, died Sunday, June 2, 2002, in St. Petersburg, Fla., where he had resided since December 2001, after a lengthy illness. Born Oct. 28, 1939 in St. Johnsbury, the son of Kermit and Sharlitte (Clark) Ash, he had been a resident of Groveton for 35 years before moving to Pittsburg, N.H., last summer, and then to St. Petersburg in December. Mr. Ash was a truck driver for Normandeau Trucking in Groveton, before becoming unable to drive truck anymore. He was of the Methodist faith. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking and spending time at camp with the guys. Mr. Ash is survived by one daughter, Marsha Flanders and Jim of North Stratford, N.H.; three sons, Ronald "Ronnie" Ash Jr. and Denise of Groveton, Robert Ash and Chris of Bethlehem, and Robin Ash and David Perkins of St. Petersburg; four grandsons; three sisters, Lois Joly of New Smyrna Beach, Fla., Joyce Ducart of Wolfeboro, N.H., and Donna Niederhous of Escondido, Calif.; one brother, Floyod Ash of Wallington Ford, Mass.; two stepbrothers, David Favreau and Richard Favreau, both of Daytona Beach, Fla.; two aunts, and several nieces, nephews and couusins. , 69, of Concord, Vt., died peacefully at home, Thursday, June 13, 2002. He was born in St. Johnsbury Dec. 28, 1932, the son of Napoleon and Anna (Whitman) Descoteaux. Mr. Descoteaux served his country during the Korean Conflict in the U.S. Army. He worked as a scale mechanic for 18 years at Fairbanks Scales until he became disabled. He was a Boy Scout leader of Troop 13 in Concord in the 1960s, was an avid fisherman, and most of all enjoyed his family. Survivors include his four children, Diane Descoteaux, Sandra Chamberlin, John Descoteaux and companion Holly Stone, and Michael Descoteaux, all of Concord; two brothers, Leo and wife Ruth Descoteaux of Barnet and Robert Descoteaux of St. Louis, Mo.; two sisters, Jean Lamothe of St. Johnsbury, and Beatrice Johnson of Florida; four grandchildren, James Chamberlin of St. Johnsbury, Alisha Chamberlin of Lyndonville, and Ann and John Descoteaux, both of Concord; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Mary E. Descoteaux, July 5, 1996; two brothers, Roland and Wilfred Descoteaux; and two sisters, Rita Davis and Anita Morrison. , of 246 Peacham Road in Danville, died Thursday, June 13, 2002 in St. Johnsbury. She had been at the Health and Rehabilitation Center for the past two weeks. She was born Feb. 21, 1918 in Fortune, Newfoundland, Canada, and graduated from high school there. She came to St. Johnsbury to attend Brightlook School of Nursing, graduating in 1939. She went on to have a long career in nursing in New York City, nursing principally at the Methodist Hospital in Brooklyn, and Brooklyn Eye and Ear Hospital. She is survived by two sons, William M. Jasyn of New Paltz, N.Y., and Robert F. Jasyn of North Danville. She was predeceased by her husband, Maurice A. Jasyn in 1979; her parents, Joseph and Elizabeth (Green) Miles; and three siblings, Ethel Henderson (formerly of St. Johnsbury), Gertrude Buffet, and Randall Miles. 62, of North Street, Island Pond, passed away peacefully, Thursday, June 13, 2002, at his residence, surrounded by his family, after a prolonged battle with cancer. He was born Feb. 19, 1940 in Coventry, the son of Francis A. and Lavinia (Lafoe) Leonard. He attended schools in Island Pond and Orleans, and St. Johnsbury Trade School. On May 23, 1959, he married Muriel Jean Drew of Barnet. He attended the Brighton Congregational Church. Benny owned and operated Leonard's Auction Service for the past 21 years. His Wednesday night auctions were an entertainment event. Benny's banter urged the crowd to "settle down, you know we have to make a living at this." Over the years he sold all sorts of goods, from cars to boats to jewelry to antiques, and even, as Benny would put it, "junk." Early in life Benny owned and operated a body shop, an auto repair business and a used car business. He was known for his superb paint jobs. He was also a self-taught musician who learned to play several types of guitar and the organ. He led his band "Sonic White" for over 10 years. One of his proudest accomplishments was mastery of the song "Wipeout," for which he played lead guitar. Benny enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, boating, and especially time spent at his hunting camp. He loved to eat raw hot dogs and bread while fishing, and was known to consume salted onion slices for a late night snack. He spent a lot of time with his family going to Florida for the winters and camping in the summers. To support himself during his winters in Florida he auctioneered and worked the flea markets. At one point he bought and sold 5,000 pairs of women's shoes during one season in Florida. Benny claimed to be able to sell all those shoes by fitting size eight shoes to ladies who said they wore size six. He is survived by his beloved wife, Muriel (Drew) Leonard of Island Pond; his children, Nancy Maxwell and her husband Gary of Island Pond, Lisa Wilkins and husband Ralph of Island Pond, and Mark Leonard and wife Kelley of Deltona, Fla.; his grandchildren, Matthew, Chantal and Christina Maxwell, Taylor and Mikayla Wilkins, and Morgan Leonard; his mother, Lavinia Tetreault and husband Ray of Debary, Fla.; his sisters, Joyce Cushman of Gilman, Vt., and Rebecca Bjornstad and husband James of Cedarville, Ohio; and by several nieces and nephews. There will be no calling hours. Funeral services will be held Sunday, June 16, at 2 p.m., at the First Congregational Church, Mountain Street, Island Pond, with the Revs. Roger Fletcher and James Bjornstad officiating. , 73, a lifelong resident of McIndoe Falls, died Thursday, June 13, 2002, following a courageous battle with cancer. The daughter of Harold E. and Eunice E. A. (Hastings) Gochee, Marilyn was born July 23, 1928 in McIndoe Falls. She was a 1946 graduate of McIndoe's Academy, a 1949 graduate of the Brightlook Hospital School of Nursing, and she married George W. Lowrey Sept. 17, 1950. He preceded her in death June 9, 1975. Marilyn worked as a registered nurse at the St. Johnsbury Health and Rehabilitation Center for 23 years prior to her illness. She also owned and operated George's Pizza Shop on Eastern Avenue with her husband. Marilyn was an avid New York Yankees fan, enjoyed reading, especially about World War II, antiquing, animals, flowers and nursing school reunions. She especially loved spending time with her family. Marilyn is survived by a daughter, Allison Clark and husband Paul of Littleton; a grandson, Brad G. Hall and fiancee Jenn Kierstead, both of McIndoe Falls; a brother-in-law, Eugene Lowrey and wife Ellen of Williston; a close niece, Judith Ann Gochee of Taos, N.M.; one cousin and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Francis and Lloyd. A memorial service will be held Monday, June 17 at 11 a.m. at the McIndoe Falls Congregational Church with the Rev. Gerry Piper officiating. , 77, a long-time Hardwick resident, died Sunday, June 16, 2002, at the Copley Hospital in Morrisville. She was born Feb. 17, 1925, in Springfield, Ill., the daughter of Rex E. and Fran (Robertson) Gilson. She attended Springfield public schools, and graduated from Lanphere High School in the Class of 1943. Jean owned and operated the Harvey's Childrens Shop. She later was employed at the Bemis Store, and Nancy Lee Fruit Mart, all in Hardwick. She worked for a number of years for the Vermont Children's Aid Society, Hasting General Store in West Danville, The Sterling Trust Co., and the Merchant's Bank. She retired in 1988. She was a member of the United Church of Hardwick, a clerk for that church for seven years, as well as a member of the Women's Fellowship Circle 1 of that church; and Past Worthy Matron of the Riverside Chapter 32 of the Eastern Star. She helped to organize Antiques & Uniques, sponsored by the Vermont Children's Aid Society. This fund-raiser has been held on Craftsbury Common for more than 30 years. She enjoyed swimming, traveling and family gatherings at the Harvey Camp on Greenwood Lake. Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Carl; two sons, Stuart Harvey and wife Marsha of Ballston Spa, N.Y., and Douglas Harvey and wife Elizabeth of Sykesville, Md.; two daughters, Sharon Slayton and husband Stephen of St. Johnsbury, and Carolyn Ryan and husband William of Craftsbury; 16 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Herald Gilson of Danville, Ill.; a sister, Rosemary Hanselman of Springfield, Ill.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. , 59, of 124 James St., Bethlehem, N.H., died June 13, 2002, at Franklin Regional Hospital after a seven-month courageous battle against illness. She was born Nov. 5, 1942, in Worcester, Mass., to Frans and Dorethea (Wilder) Frantz. She went on to graduate from Framingham State College in 1966 with a bachelor of science degree in education, then later to earn a master's degree in education from Antioch College in 1990. She is survived by her sister, Stina Fitch; her children, Mary, Amnalisa and Tim Blake; a daughter-in-law, Tish Blake; her grandchildren, Eli, Marina, Shawna, Christian and Blade; her ex-husband and lifelong friend, Thomas Blake; as well as many loving friends and extended family. Judith was married and started a family in Sturbridge, Mass., in 1967, where she taught in the local public school system. In 1985, Judith and kids moved to Bethlehem, where she was a home economics teacher, drama coach, yearbook editor and senior class adviser at Profile Jr./Sr. High School until 1999. Thereafter, she worked for the town of Bethlehem as an emergency dispatcher and at Littleton Coin Company as a customer service representative. She enjoyed teaching and taking students under her wing, summer trips to Merepoint, Maine, trains, her family and friends, and "Grammy Days." Lovingly called "Mama Judy" and "Mom" throughout the North Country, Judith was a friend, teacher, mother, Grammy ... taken before her time, she will be sorely missed. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church, a life member of the VFW, and a member of the Women of the Moose Club where she had been Sr. Regent. On Sept. 13, 1935, she married Joseph Fenoff Sr., who predeceased her March 2, 1985. Survivors include four sons, Joseph and wife Carol Fenoff Jr. of Florida, Charles and wife Janet Fenoff of St. Johnsbury Center, Douglas and wife Diana Fenoff of Atlanta, Ga., Gerald and wife Judy Fenoff of St. Johnsbury Center; three daughters, Doreen and husband Donald "Rocky" Larocque of Lyndonville, Virginia and husband Rodney Collins of Concord, and Madeline and husband Ernest Hastings of Lyndon Center; one brother, Gordon and wife Phyliss Fenoff of Lyndonville; two sisters, Marion and husband Douglas Clark, and Caroline Church, both of St. Johnsbury; 31 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by a son, Paul, in May 1995; and a sister, Mae Fecteau, in August 2000. Mary was the wife of Harry B. Kropsky, co-owner of Hills' Department Store. He predeceased her on Aug. 17, 1992. She had lived in Lyndonville for over 30 years and had been active in many local organizations, and was a volunteer of the blood bank and the Lyndon Women's Club. She had served as a member of the Cobleigh Library Board. She was a member of Ohavi Zedek Synagogue and Hadassah in Burlington. Mary is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sheila K. and Gene Aronoff of Lyndonville; and two grandchildren and their spouses, David and Jessica Aronoff of Newton, Mass., and Amy and Mark Blumkin of Orlando, Fla.; and four great-grandchildren, Hannah and Jacob Aronoff, and Samuel and Lily Blumkin. She was predeceased by two brothers, Nathan and Leon Mendelson. A graveside service will take place at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Hebrew Holy Society Cemetery, Patchen Rd., S. , 76, of St. Johnsbury, died Sunday, June 16, 2002, at the VA Hospital in White River Junction. He was born in St. Valevier, Canada, March 27, 1926, the son of Adelard J. and Aurelie Marie (Landry) Ouellette. Mr. Ouellette served his country during World War II in the United States Navy. A foreman at Fairbanks Scales, he worked from January 1947 to February 1968 in the fabrication and assembly department. Upon retirement he worked as a rural mail carrier for the United States Post Office (23 years), 1966-1989. Mr. Ouellette was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church and the Elks Club. He loved cribbage and sailing at Joe's Pond. Survivors include two children, Dominique Ouellette and companion Ann Lachance of Morgan and Monique and husband J. Daniel Hoffman of Portland, Maine; three brothers, Fernand "Fred" and wife Evangelene Ouellette of St. Johnsbury, Joseph and wife Florence Ouellette of Leominster, Mass., and Laurent and wife Joan Ouellette of St. Johnsbury; one sister, Bertha Choquette of Lancaster, N.H.; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Cecile Olney of St. Johnsbury. , 81, of Framingham, Mass. and Lunenburg, Vt., died Saturday, June 15, 2002, at his home in Framingham, following a lengthy illness. He was the husband of Vivian R. (Smith) Monahan for 51 years. Born in Lancaster, N.H., he was the son of the late Earnest J. and Hazel Dell (Davis) Monahan. He was educated in an eight-grade, one-room schoolhouse, and later graduated from Framingham State College with a bachelor of arts degree in 1985. Mr. Monahan served in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theater during World War II, as a sergeant in Company C, 390th Infantry, 98th Division. He was a 62-year member of Local 4 of the International Union of Operating Engineers (I.U.O.E.) of Boston. In 1963, he and his wife established the Kensons Realty Trust in Framingham, a real estate business, which today operates in much of the MetroWest area. Besides his wife, he is survived by three sons, Steven A. Monahan and Douglas P. Monahan of Framingham, and David J. Monahan of Worcester; two sisters, Barbara Mary (Monahan) Wolf of New Orleans, La., and Joyce Anne (Monahan) Fournier of Lunenburg, Vt.; 12 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was also the father of the late Kenneth M. and Bruce K. Monahan, and the brother of the late Donald Monahan and Margaret Jane (Monahan) Colby, both formerly of Lunenburg, Vt. , 84, of Sutton, died peacefully at her home Tuesday morning, June 18, 2002. She was born July 18, 1917, in Waitsfield, the daughter of the late Frank H. and Sarah E. (Dodge) Weston. Irene was 5 years old when her mother died and was adopted and raised by the late Daniel and Jenny Thompson of Norwich. For many years Irene worked for Lyndon State College in the housekeeping department, retiring in 1981. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Vermont Society of Mayflower Descendants. Known for her direct and honest ways, she enjoyed working in her flower gardens and watching the wild birds that frequented her feeders. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, her cats, dining at Miss Lyndonville Diner and classic country and bluegrass music. Survivors include her companion of more than 40 years, Dale Goodwin of Sutton; four sons, Robert Chayer and wife Betty of Woodstock, Rodney Chayer and wife Trixie of Mill Point, W.Va., Richard Chayer of North Swanzey, N.H., and Mark Chayer and wife Mildred of Niantic, Conn.; her daughter, Antoinette "Toni" Masure of Wheelock; a daughter-in-law, Sharon Chayer of Lyndonville; two special step-children, Russell Goodwin and wife Faith of Springfield, and Sandra Goodwin of West Burke; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two brothers; three sisters, including Frances Fleury of Waterbury; and nieces and nephews. He had been a lifelong resident, where he owned and operated an autobody repair shop, in Woodsville and he had worked for a number of years at Jesseman's Garage in Lisbon, N.H. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II from November 1943 to January 1946. He was a member of VFW Post 5245 of North Haverhill and American Legion Ross-Wood Post 20 of Woodsville. Mr. Bemis married Joanna Vielleux in 1949. Jack was a 1959 graduate of Hardwick Academy and attended Champlain College, Burlington. He served in the Vermont Army National Guard for over eight years. Jack had retired from employment with James River, a forest products company. Previously he had worked for a number of years in farm machinery sales. He enjoyed travel and camping, especially trips taken with his uncle, Tommy Eastman. Jack is survived by three siblings, Howard Eastman Jr. of Inverness, Fla., his wife Phyllis and daughters Judy, Jan and Joanna; Susan Slayton of Inverness, and children Curtis and Sara; Brenda Eastman and daughter Shivani of Ashville, N.Y.; and several grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Jack was predeceased by his parents, and his older brother Ransom "Tink" Eastman, who died in 1958. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, June 22, in the Sanborn Cemetery, East Hardwick.

She was born in Island Pond Jan. 1, 1923, the daughter of the late Stanislaus and Alvine (Langlois) Guillette. Pauline was married Oct. 27, 1943 in Hardwick to Emmanuel A. LeBlanc. She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish. Mom always enjoyed the time she spent with her family and friends. The family gatherings, big or small, she always made you feel special. Her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren always came first; even at the end she was more concerned with the well-being of her family than herself. She attended schools in Vermont and Massachusetts and was a homemaker. She was a member of the Mechanic Falls Senior Citizens and the Grange in Vermont. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting and knitting. She married Bernard I. Coburn, who died in 1961. She later married Carrolous Verrill who also predeceased her. Survivors include two step-sons and their wives, Carrolous and Virginia Verrill of Shapleigh, and Norman and Ellie Verrill of Auburn; a step-son, Ed Coburn of Jacksonville, Fla., three step-daughters and their husbands, Ruth and Wilmont Herrick of Mechanic Falls, Carolyn Fickes of Podosa Springs, Colo., and Elizabeth and Jerry Grant of Gray; a sister, Esther Turcotte of Tulsa, Okla.; eight grandchildren, Wayne Coburn Jr., Paula Walker, Kathy Lemay, Dexter Coburn Jr., Sandra Coburn, Chris Coburn, Zachary Coburn and Deborah Martin; nine step-grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and many step-great-grandchildren; a nephew and three nieces. , 87, of North Haverhill, N.H., died Saturday, June 22, 2002, at the Grafton County Nursing Home, following an extended illness. She was born in Bath, N.H., April 26, 1915, a daughter of Oren and Ida (Martin) Rollins. A lifelong area resident, she served as the head cook at the James R. Morrill Elementary School in North Haverhill before her retirement in 1982. She continued to serve part-time until 1987, and received a 30-year employment certificate from the Haverhill Cooperative School District. Mrs. Allbee was a 68-year member of the North Haverhill United Methodist Church, where she had been active in the Women's Club and sang in the choir until age 80. She was also a 65-year member of the Mary B. Gliddon Lodge of Rebekahs of Woodsville, where she held numerous offices. Known to take care of her "Boys," each month she would deliver an assortment of cookies and candy to the Haverhill Police Department. They made Mary an honorary member of the department in December 1996. Each spring she would be among the first in town to dig dandelion greens. She married Richard C. Allbee in 1937; he predeceased her Aug. 28, 1994. She was also predeceased by six brothers, Vern, Floyd, William, Clifton, Karl and George Rollins; and three sisters, Gladys Stevens, Margaret Towle and Eunice Young. Survivors include three daughters, Carol A. Giles and husband Richard V. of Epping, N.H.; Marjorie A. Thayer McCoomb and husband William of North Hampton, N.H., and Ruth C. Page and husband John of North Haverhill; two sons, David W. Allbee and wife Kareen of North Haverhill and Donald A. , 84, of Island Pond, died Friday, June 21, 2002, at his home. He was born in East Herford, Quebec, Canada, March 27, 1918, a son of Moise and Anna (Pivin) Dupuis. He came to the United States in 1938 and on Aug. 22, 1944, he married Irene Tremblay, who survives him. In 1950 they moved to Island Pond, where Sylvio served as selectman and water commissioner for the town of Brighton for many years. From 1969 to 1982 he owned the Gulf Station on Main Street in Island Pond, and he owned and operated the Dupuis Oil Service until 1988. He is survived by his wife, Irene Dupuis of Island Pond; his children, Pierre Dupuis of Island Pond, Madeline Molinari and husband Richard of Island Pond, and Michael Dupuis and wife Willa Mae of Dunkirk, Md.; four grandchildren, Danielle, Derrick, Logan and Christopher; two sisters, Mrs. Claire Paquette and Mrs. Gisele St. Pierre, both of Nashua, N.H.; two brothers-in-law, Toni Hebert and Rosio Tremblay and wife Helen of Levis, Quebec; and four sisters-in-law, Prisilda Dupuis of New Hampshire, Marthe Tremblay of Montreal, Sister Germaine Tremblay of Sherbrooke, Quebec, and Denise Gauthier of Compton, Quebec. Calling hours were held Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Curtis-Britch Converse-Rushford Funeral Home, 1199 Railroad St., Island Pond. Funeral services will be held today, Monday, June 24 at 11 a.m. at the St. James Parish Hall, with the Rev. Paul Houde celebrating a Mass of Christian burial. , 59, of 61 Carter Street, Brockton, Mass., passed away Saturday, June 22, 2002 at the New England Saini and Rehabilitation Center in Stoughton, Mass. after a brief illness. Nancy was born a daughter of Sedrick and Verna (Haley) Burgess, June 18, 1943 in Littleton. She attended school in Littleton, after which she went into the day care business for many years. She was a member of the Littleton Eagles Club, an avid bingo player, and enjoyed camping, boating and spending time with her grandchildren. She also liked to attend the Littleton Basketball Team games whenever she could. Surviving family consists of two daughters, Stacie Valerie Fenner of North Andover, Mass., and Melody Ann Fenner of Littleton; one son, Gerald Sedrick Fenner of Deltona, Fla.; her mother, Verna Burgess of Littleton; two brothers, Howard Burgess of Littleton, and William Burgess of Georgia; and six grandchildren. A memorial service will be celebrated Tuesday, June 25 at 11 a.m. in the Pillsbury Funeral Home, 101 Union Street, Littleton, with the Rev. Thomas Golden officiating.

, 90, of Oak Hill Road, Northfield, N.H., died at his home, Saturday, June 22, 2002, following a period of failing health, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in St. Johnsbury, May 30, 1912, the son of Frank and Grace (Langmaid) Prue. Albert moved from St. Johnsbury to Northfield over 20 years ago. He was employed as a security officer with the New Hampshire State Hospital in Concord, and owned and operated ABC Electric. He also worked as maintenance supervisor for Concord Hospital and then was employed with Fairbanks and Morse Foundry in St. Johnsbury. He operated farms in South Walden and in Loudon, N.H., along with livestock dealerships in both states. He was an avid horseman, owning and racing horses most of his life up to his death. He was an honored and recognized member of the Race Hall of Fame Rochester, N.H. He took great pleasure in hunting, fishing and spending many hours with his family. He was predeceased by two brothers, Raymond and Joseph Prue; three sisters, Louise Desolet, Florence Shaw and Josephine Cole; one son, William Prue, who died in 1969; and a grandson, Douglas Abbott, in 1994. His family includes his wife of 50 years, Barbara Ann (Stiles) Prue of Northfield, N.H.; two sons, Frank J. Prue and fiance Brenda Hines of Waterford, Vt., and Albert H. Prue Jr. and wife Susan of Tilton, N.H.; three daughters, Grace and husband John Cookson of Pueblo, Colo., Katherine Prue Cates of South Walden, and Laurie Dyer of South Walden; 18 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter; a brother-in-law, Edward Stiles of Concord, N.H., and nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 10 a.m. to noon at the William F. Smart Sr. Memorial Home, Franklin-Tilton Road, Tilton, N.H. A graveside service will follow in Park Cemetery in Tilton. 76, of Lyndonville, died Sunday, June 23, 2002, at the Pines Rehabilitation and Health Center after a brief illness. He was born in North Fayston, Vt., April 22, 1926, the son of Howard and Bessie (Hoffman) Griffith. A self-employed logger, he worked many years in the area, contracting with landowners. Griff loved the outdoors; hunting and fishing were of great interest to him. He was always ready to go to the dance! On May 26, 1946, he married Delemora (Brown), who predeceased him Dec. 17, 1997. Survivors include four sons, Harold Griffith and friend Theresa Norris of Wheelock, Leigh Griffith of Sutton, Michael and wife Debbie Griffith of Sutton, and Brian and wife Diane Griffith of Lyndonville; two daughters, Patricia "Pat" Coffin of St. Johnsbury and Rosalie "Rose" Willson of Lyndonville; a sister, Judy Capron of Barnet; 23 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three nieces; and a special friend, Helen Wilson of Lyndonville. He was predeceased by a son, Howard; a daughter, Theresa; and a brother-in-law, Wayne Capron. Friends are invited to meet the family Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Guibord Funeral Home. She was born Sept. 27, 1961 in Cincinnati, Ohio, the daughter of LeMoyne A. and Yvonne (Heggerness) Willend. Her husband, Daniel Camber, predeceased her. She is survived by her mother, Yvonne Bertolini of Barton; her maternal grandmother, Pearl Cheek of Minnesota; her children, Crystal Camber of Montana, Magon Bassett and husband Nate of Lyndonville, Sara Camber of Lyndonville and Daniel Camber of East Barre; a granddaughter, Daniell Bassett; two brothers, John Bertolini of Barton and Matt Bertolini of Sutton; and a special friend, Denise Gilbert of East Barre. There will be no visiting hours or funeral services.

, 65, of Sheffield, died Tuesday, June 25, 2002, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H. He was born March 12, 1937, in Sutton, the son of the late Leo D. and Ardell M. (Powers) Goodwin. Reg graduated from St. Johnsbury Trade School in 1955 and then entered the National Guard, serving three years. He then enlisted in the U.S. Army and served until 1963. On Dec. 27, 1958, he married Diana Willey. Reg was dedicated to the town of Sutton, where he was the road commissioner for over 30 years, retiring in 2000. He was a member of the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed reading, playing cards, feeding and watching wild birds, and his favorite tree, the mountain ash. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Diana W. Goodwin of Sheffield; his daughter, Pamela Norrie of Sheffield; two sons, Daniel Goodwin of Sheffield, and Douglas Goodwin and wife Jackie of Lyndonville; six grandchildren; his sister, Beverly Cox and husband Maynard of Baltimore, Vt.; two brothers, Dale Goodwin of Sutton, and Neil Goodwin and wife Sandra of Troy, N.H.; two sisters-in-law, Edith Wells of St. Johnsbury Center, and Rose Garand of St. Johnsbury; many nieces and nephews; and his close friend, Clarence Ash of Sheffield. He was predeceased by two sisters, Geraldine Gosley and Pauline Gleason; a brother, Donald Goodwin; and his sister-in-law, Irene Chayer, just one week ago. A graveside service with military honors will be held Friday, June 28 at 11 a.m. at the Sutton Village Cemetery with the Rev. Tim Pittman officiating. There will be no visiting hours.

, 94, of Littleton, died Sunday, June 23, 2002, at the Grafton County Nursing Home in North Haverhill, where he had been a resident for the past several years. He was born Oct. 11, 1907, in Lyme, N.H., the son of George E. and Hattie (Meriel) Tattersall. Prior to retirement Raymond worked as a night watchman for Providence Town Bank in Boston. He is survived by two sons, Russell Tattersall of Woodsville and Raymond Tattersall of Littleton; three daughters, Dorothy Marden of Whitefield, and Ramona Miller and Sheila Herbert, both of Florida; and several grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. Bethlehem, N.H., 76, passed away at Lafayette Center in Franconia on Wednesday, June 26, 2002 after having an extended illness. June was born in North Belgrade, Maine, on June 10, 1926 to Joseph and Ethel McCormick. Most of her adult life she lived in Bethlehem. Two sisters, Betty and Peg, and one brother, Alton, predeceased her. Family members include her husband of 53 years, Robert J. Young of Bethlehem, a son, Roger Pushor of Littleton, and two daughters, Sherry Derrington of Bethlehem and Sandy Krieder of Milford, Conn. She has six grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She worked for several years at Connors and Hoffman Shoe and Sweets Brush Handle factories in Littleton. She also spent a number of years caring for elderly people in their homes. Among her many interests were her cats, Friday and Buffy, fresh water fishing and camping in the North Country with her husband. June also enjoyed traveling with her husband to country fairs where she loved to bet on the horses. She enjoyed life and lived for the moment. A gathering to celebrate June's life will be held at Sherry Derrington's home at 953 Cherry Valley Road in Bethlehem, on Saturday, July 6, from 1 to 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in June's memory to the Bethlehem Emergency Services, P.O.
