Albert Asahel "Bert" Aldrich ....show
, 81, of Sugar Hill, died Sept. 29, 2010. Bert was born March 2, 1929, in Littleton hospital, the son of Harold Clifton and Edith (Ginn) Aldrich of Sugar Hill. He was a 1947 graduate of Franconia's Dow Academy. After graduation, he joined the Air Force, serving in Korea before being discharged as a staff sergeant in 1954. He married Maxine Gray of South Royalton, Vt., on July 31, 1955. He worked as a helicopter mechanic for Sikorsky Aircraft in Bridgeport, Conn., before returning to his hometown of Sugar Hill in 1956 to live and raise his family in the Aldrich family home (built by his own Dad). He worked as a pressman for Harrison Publishing House (formerly in Sugar Hill and now in Littleton) for 38 years before retiring in 1994. He was an active resident of the town of Sugar Hill and was chief of the Sugar Volunteer Fire Department from 1959 to 1972 and continued as a member of the Fire Department. After his retirement, Bert and his best friend, Joe Lange, took on the project of restoring Sugar Hill's No.2 fire truck, a 1939 Ford farm truck. This truck was Bert's joy and his pleasure to display on the lawn of the Sugar Hill Museum and to drive in local parades, especially for Old Home Days in Franconia. Bert and Maxine purchased Harman's Cheese & Country Store in 1981 and he was an active part of the business until his death. He kept busy in his retirement with lawn care, snowplowing and gardening. He was a devoted Red Sox fan and before admission to the hospital had to know the score of the previous night's game that he was unable to view. He was a member of the International Order of Odd Fellows and a loyal Grange member. Together, Bert and Maxine were the ultimate grandparents, looking forward to spending as much time as possible with their grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Maxine Aldrich; daughter Brenda A. Aldrich of Sugar Hill; three sons, W. Robert Aldrich and wife Patty of East Berne, N.Y., along with Heather and Leanne and their families, Clifton Aldrich and Pauline and Jamie of Sugar Hill, and Steven Aldrich and wife Nancy and Victoria of Lee, N.H.; five grandsons, Nick Aldrich (son of W. Robert) is at the State University of New York in Buffalo, Logan, Jake, Will and Thomas Aldrich (sons of Steven) of Lee, N.H.; two brothers, Harold Aldrich and wife Edith of Sugar Hill, and Richard Aldrich of Manchester, N.H.; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Calling hours will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 5 at the Meeting House in Sugar Hill. At 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct., 6, a firemen's procession will carry Albert's casket on Sugar Hill's No. 2 fire truck from the Sugar Hill Fire House to the Meetinghouse, where a memorial will be held. At the close of the memorial, the Firemen's Procession will continue to Sunnyside Cemetery for a committal service. After the committal, all are invited back to the Sugar Hill Meetinghouse for a reception. died Sept. 30, 2010, in Grafton County Nursing Home after a long illness. She was born at Cottage Hospital in Woodsville, N.H., Oct. 2, 1937, a daughter of Charles and Mattie Wilson. She graduated from Wells River High School in 1955, and in 1989 she graduated magna cum laude from the College of Lifelong Learning, where she majored in human services. Ida was preceded in death by her husband, James Robinson, son Kimball and daughter Melissa. She is survived by her son James of Haverhill, N.H.; three grandchildren and a great-granddaughter of Littleton, N.H.; brother Eugene Winchester of West Chesterfield, N.H.; sister Margaret Hatch of Lebanon, N.H.; several nieces, nephews and cousins. A private burial will be in Swiftwater Cemetery following cremation, per Ida's request. , 66, Lunenburg, died Sunday morning Oct. 3, 2010, at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, Lebanon. Mr. Labbe was born in Nashua, N.H., on May 25, 1944, a son of Arthur and Blanche (Cote) Labbe. He was a 1962 graduate of Nashua High School and married Lorette Sigouin on Sept. 5, 1964, at St. Francis Xavier Church in Nashua. They recently celebrated 46 years of marriage. Armand was a licensed ham band radio operator and worked for Simpson Paper Co. in Gilman, Vt., retiring after 27.5 years. He was a licensed minister through the United Christian Faith Ministries and Maranatha Ministries, for many years he ministered at the Northeast Regional Correctional Facility in St. Johnsbury, Vt. He raised pedigree racing pigeons, was a member of the Champlain Valley Racers Club and received several first-place trophies. He was an avid hunter and fisherman with a great passion for the outdoors. He was loved and will be greatly missed. Family members include his wife, Lorette Labbe, of Lunenburg; two sons, Patrick and Philip and a granddaughter Megan; six siblings, Doris Gagnon of Leesburg, Fla., Georgette Leveille and husband Robert of Laurel Hill, N.C., Alice Landry of Nashua, Lorraine Bariteau and husband Aime of Leesburg, FL, Lawrence Labbe and wife Ellen of Leesburg, and Rolande Suchocki and husband Edward (Nap) of Nashua; many nieces and nephews. His parents, brother Arthur "Pete" Labbe and sister Irene Vien predeceased him. At his request there are no calling hours. , 81, formerly of Rochester, Vt., died Monday morning Oct. 4, 2010, at her home in Lyndonville, with her loving family at her side. She was born Aug. 28, 1929, in Berkshire, Vt., the daughter of Jean-Baptist and Antonia (Charron) Brodeur. Claire worked for over 40 years as a mill worker at Weyerhauser Corp. in Hancock, Vt., retiring in 1996. Following retirement she became active with the Quinn-Town Senior Center and delivered meals on wheels until August 2006. A strong and self-supporting woman, Claire always made her family her first priority. She enjoyed her independence, gardening, knitting, bird watching, taking trips throughout central Vermont, driving friends and neighbors to various appointments, and taking care of her feline companion Tally. She was also active in her church, St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Rochester, Vt. Survivors include her daughter, Diane Willson and companion David Burrington of Newark, Vt.; four grandchildren, Janet Willson, Timothy Willson, Daniel Willson and Allen Willson; two brothers, Alphonse Brodeur and wife Helen of Albuquerque, N.M., and Larry Brodeur of Middlebury, Vt.; nieces, nephews and many friends. She was predeceased by her parents; three brothers, John, Adrian and infant Lucien Brodeur; three sisters, Rolande Domina, Marie Blanchard and Irene Newton. A Mass of Christian burial will be held in Lyndonville on Friday, Oct. 8, at 11 a.m., at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, with the Rev. Dwight Baker Celebrant. , Sr, 93, of Franklin Park, N.J., and Peacham, Vt., died Oct. 1, 2010 in New Jersey. He was born in New Brunswick, N.J., Nov. 13, 1916, a son of Nelson and Katherine (Steinmacher) Birch, attened grammar school in New Brunswick and later graduated from New Brunswick High School. Following graduation, he worked for the Cronk Box Company in Highland Park. During World War II, his company made wooden boxes for the transport of war supplies to the troops in Europe. In 1942, the box company sent him to St. Johnsbury, to be near the ready supply of trees felled by the 1938 hurricane. While in Vermont he met and in 1943 married Frances Farrow. In 1950 he moved back to Franklin Park, N.J., to work for Mr. Switzgable at the Ridge Door Company in Monmouth Jct., N.J. He continued with this company until his retirement in 1988 at age 72. After retiring, he spent his summers in Peacham and winters in New Jersey. He was a member of the Six Mile Run Reformed Church in Franklin Park since 1950, where he has served as a Deacon and Elder at various times. He also attended the Peacham Congregational Church. He was also a member of Washburn Lodge # 92 F&AM of Danville for more than 60 years. He was predeceased by his parents, a sister Thelma Hoover and a grandson Trevor Jablonski. Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Frances (Farrow) Birch of New Jersey and Peacham; four children: Harold J. Birch Jr. and his wife Nancy of Tennessee, Carol Jablonski and her husband Robert of New Jersey, Anita Vann and her husband Harry of Vermont, and Warren Birch and his wife Carmel of New Jersey; five grandchildren: Clinton Birch and his wife Crystal, Brian Birch, Eric Jablonski and his wife Lisa, John Cappellano and Julie Cappellano and her husband Derek Whitaker; three great-grandchildren: Jake Jablonski, and Caitlyn and Connor Birch: two brothers: Nelson Birch and Ralph Birch and his wife Lillian; along with several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 1 to 3 p.m. with the funeral service beginning at 2:30 p.m. at Bronson and Guthlein Funeral Home, Milltown, N.J. , 91, of Wheelock, died peacefully Sunday morning, Oct. 3, 2010, in Jericho, Vt. He was born Dec. 24, 1918, in Stanstead, Quebec, the son of Hector and Hattie (Pomeroy) Poulin. In 1937 he graduated from Derby Academy, where he excelled in baseball and was a star pitcher. On Aug. 25, 1940, he married Leota (Sleep). She predeceased him on Sept. 29, 2009, after nearly 70 years of marriage. Raymond served in the US Army during World War II. He had worked at Vermont Tap & Die Co. in Lyndonville for 40 years in quality control, and was a supervisor there as well. He was a quiet, pleasant and well-respected man who enjoyed golfing and fishing, and won many trophies playing cribbage. Survivors include two daughters, Ramona Mann of Underhill, Vt., and Cindi Poulin of Twin Mountain, N.H.; four sons, Russell Poulin and wife Lorraine of Wheelock, Robert Poulin and wife Paula of Essex Junction, John Poulin of St. Johnsbury, and Brian Poulin and wife Jeannine of Montpelier; 15 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; a brother, Ulric Norris and wife Lorraine of Sutton; a brother-in-law, Clem Patoine of Sutton; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Oct. 7 at 11 a.m. at Lyndonville United Methodist Church with the Rev. Barbara Dwyer officiating. Burial will follow in Lyndon Center Cemetery. , 96, of St. Johnsbury, passed away peacefully Monday evening, Oct. 4, 2010. He was born May 4, 1914, in Lyndonville, the only child of Thomas F. and Maude (Gibson) Havers. His wife, June Huntoon Havers, passed away Sept. 28, 2006. June and Tom could always be seen together. They were married Feb. 21, 1937. Tom continued to be blessed with good health until about two weeks ago. Tom was an insurance agent for John Hancock Mutual Life Insurance Co. from 1941 to 1974. He then served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Tom was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. He was a past president of the St. Johnsbury Babe Ruth League and of the Northeastern Vermont Life Underwriters Association. He had been a member of the Mt. Vernon Masonic Lodge 15 in Newport, N.H., since 1941. Tom had a close and dear association with the St. Johnsbury Country Club; he had served as secretary of the club since 1974 and, in 1967, as its president. Only last year did he step down as the secretary. He is survived by three children, Ann Blum of Alpharetta, Ga., Thomas R. Havers and wife Betty of Williston, James S. Havers and wife Susan of Haubstadt, Ind.; five grandchildren, Lori Reine and husband Richard of Bedford, N.H., Jason Havers and wife Erica of South Burlington, Aaron Havers of South Burlington, Matthew Havers and wife Sarah of South Burlington, Evan Havers and wife Melinda of Indianapolis, Ind.; seven great-grandchildren; June's last surviving sibling, Alma Koledo of Claremont, N.H.; nieces and nephews. , 78, of Sheffield, Vt., died tragically and was found on Oct. 3, 2010, in Wheelock, Vt. She was born Jan. 17, 1932 in Bridgeport, Conn., the daughter of Edward and Flora (Seelye) Hanley. She graduated from Seymour (Connecticut) High School in 1950, and received her bachelors degree in business from the University of Lowell, (Massachusetts) in 1981. On Sept. 29, 1956, she married Edward O'Hagan. They moved from North Chelmsford, Mass., in 1995 to Sheffield. Pat had worked in business administration for a computer software company for many years. An active and energetic woman, Pat was very involved in her community and her church. Memberships include the Sheffield Historical Society, Home Dem, St. Elizabeth Church Women's group, Sheffield Food Pantry, Sheffield Planning Board, Sheffield Town Hall and the Red Hat Society, Northeast Kingdom Rug Hookers Guild, and she was a volunteer at the Cobliegh Library in Lyndonville. Pat was an avid kayaker who loved to travel, go camping and spend time with her grandchildren, and was a veracious reader. She was fiercely independent and had an incredible love and zest for life. Survivors include her five children, Matthew O'Hagan and wife Deborah of West Bloomfield, Mich., Maureen O'Hagan of Ayer, Mass., Shawn O'Hagan and wife Maria of Manchester, N.H., Terry O'Hagan and wife Susan of Groton, Mass., and Mark O'Hagan of Bolton, Mass.; nine grandchildren; three sisters, all of Connecticut: Gaylene Johnston, Rosanne Dahn and husband Richard, and Susanne Dolan; two sisters-in-law, Mary Gregg of New Hampshire and Peg Ayer of Vermont; many nieces and nephews; and many good friends. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband Edward O'Hagan in 2001; and her brother, Edward Hanley. , 85, of Rocklin, Calif., died Friday, Oct. 1, 2010, at her home with her family by her side. She was born Aug. 9, 1925, in Sutton, the daughter of Elmer and Flossie (Facteau) Peck. In 1944 she graduated from Lyndon Institute. Shirley enjoyed above all else spending time with her family. When her children were young, Shirley loved to take them camping and fishing. They were active members of the Lyndon Outing Club and enjoyed skiing, snowshoeing, and snowmobiling. She also enjoyed country-western music, and reading all the Zane Grey western adventure novels she could find. She delighted in making handcrafted gifts for her family and friends. Having learned knitting and crocheting from her mother, Shirley was constantly making blankets, pillows, hand-stitched dolls and beautiful floral arrangements for the holidays. After moving to California in 1965, she continued to travel with her family, frequently visiting Lake Tahoe and the coast. An avid card player, Shirley loved playing cards with her children and grandchildren at family gatherings. Survivors include four children, Michael Ronan and wife Elizabeth of Broomfield, Colo., Deborah Maguire and husband Mike of Peterborough, N.H., Mary Stevens and husband Gary of Rocklin, Calif., and Richard Ronan and wife Candace of Sacramento, Calif.; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Stuart Peck and companion Audrey LaFlamme of Newport; two sisters, Doreen Deos and husband Charles of Lyndon Center, and Geraldine Deos and husband Francis of Middle Island, N.Y.; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; her son John Ronan; and two brothers, Truman Peck and Conrad Peck. Malcolm Albert Clough ....show
, 83, of Landaff, died Oct. 7, 2010, after a brief illness. He was born in 1927 in Haverhill, N.H., the son of Roy L. and Winifred (Lang) Clough of Bath N.H. Malcolm graduated from Lisbon High School in June 1947 upon returning from service during WWII where he served in Europe with the 346th Engineers G.S. Regiment. He was married to Francese E. Hubbard on Feb. 22, 1950. They raised three children and were married for 49 years, until her death March 24, 1999. Mr. Clough worked for the New Hampshire Department of Transportation for 37 years, retiring in 1984. He enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, golf and traveling. He visited the 48 contiguous states, Switzerland, The United Kingdom, Aruba and much of Canada. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family. Mr. Clough is survived by his dear companion, Dorothy Fulford; two sons, Gregory Clough and companion Connie Magnuson of Kittery, Maine, and Steven Clough and companion Audrey Crowe of Franconia; his daughter Candace Pederanzi and husband Guy of Laconia, N.H., eight grandchildren, Timothy and Amanda Clough of Sugar Hill, N.H., Lori and Jeremy McFarland of Hayes, Va., Meghan Clough of Oakland, Calif., Troy Clough of Burlington, Vt., Angela and Guy "TJ" Pederzani of Laconia, N.H., Cristi and Thomas DeSocia of Bolton, Mass.; and five great-grandchildren. She was born Sept. 17, 1919, in Rock Island, Quebec, and was married for almost 50 years to Jerry Vail. She enjoyed being a mother to daughters Cynthia and Lynda, as well as a grandmother to Jennifer and Brennon. She is survived by them and their children, Sydney, Jakob, Ethan, Evan and Elliott. , 80, died Thursday, Oct. 7, 2010, at Weeks Medical Center in Lancaster, N.H., after a sudden illness. Mrs. Morin was born in Lancaster on March 28, 1930, a daughter of Milton and Edna (Whitney) Kiser. Beverly was a lifetime resident of Lancaster. She and her late husband, James, owned and operated Whitney Motors for 11 years. She was also employed at Lancaster Motel for 10 years and for a time at Foodtown. After retirement, she worked at North Country Ford in the summer and wintered in Paisley, Fla. She was a member of the John W. Weeks VFW Post 3041 Ladies Auxiliary. Family members include a son, Gary Savage and wife Sharon of Jefferson, N.H., a daughter, Sharon Welch and husband John of Groveton, N.H.; a sister, Mary Kenison of Jefferson; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband; son Dennis Savage; and a sister, Marion Reynolds. At Beverly's request there are no visiting hours. , a native of St. Johnsbury and longtime resident of East Montpelier, passed away somewhat unexpectedly Saturday, Oct. 9, 2010, at Central Vermont Hospital at the age of 74. She was born in St. Johnsbury on Aug. 10, 1936, the daughter of Alfred and Antoinette (Veilleux) Roy. Claire graduated from St. Johnsbury Academy in 1955. She is survived by her husband, Stanley, whom she married Sept. 17, 1955; two sons, Jeffrey Pierce and wife Heidi of Milton, Jonathan Pierce and wife Amanda of Barre; five grandchildren: Savannah and Cain, Emily, Grace and Nicholas; one brother, Paul Roy of Weymouth, Mass.; two sisters, Theresa Dunbar of Fairfield, Calif., Helen Godin and husband Raphael of Fitchburg, Mass.; sister-in-law Carol Pilette of Marshfield; brother-in-law Herbert Smith of Connecticut; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother Alfred Roy Jr., and a sister Arlene Smith. In addition to being a loving and supportive wife and mother, Claire was a French-Roman Catholic and a patron of Saint Augustine's Church in Montpelier, a longtime member of the Barre Paletteers, a para-educator at East Montpelier Elementary School, and an active member of the Republican Party. A funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Johnsbury this Friday, Oct. 15 at 11 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church with burial following at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. , a native of St. Johnsbury, Vt., died peacefully at his home in East Montpelier on Oct. 13, 2010, with his family by his side. George was born in Newport, Vt., on Aug. 30, 1929, the son of Lewis and Violet Guy. In 1953, he married Joycelyn Carol "Joycie" LaPoint, who predeceased him in June 1998. He also was predeceased by two sisters, Phyllis Jones and Lois Hammond; two grandchildren, Benjamin Chiasson and Ashley Sylvain; and a sister-in-law Carol LaPoint. George attended Lyndon Institute and was an avid skier, often boasting about his ski team's championship year. He was an Army veteran, serving in Panama. George was active in his children's lives serving as a president for the Arlington Street School PTA and was instrumental in the development of the Arlington Street skating rink. George was a longtime meat salesman for Swift & Co. and then Murray Meats, traveling throughout the Northeast Kingdom. Later he made many friends as a meat cutter for the Danville and Wheelock general stores. Upon moving to live with his daughter in 2003, he joined the Barre Senior Center, where he played lots of games of cribbage and made new friends. He also enjoyed coffee with his "buddies" at the Wayside. Fishing was his passion and he would take anyone willing to go. He leaves behind three children, Louise Sylvain and husband Greg of East Montpelier, Rodney Guy, and Sandra McHugh and husband Rick of Burke; two brothers, Donald Guy of Ludlow and Ronald Guy of Lyndonville; two brothers-in-law, Arthur LaPoint Jr. and wife Eleanor of Greenville, Tenn., and Ashley "Hap" LaPoint of St. Johnsbury; five grandchildren, Tara Smith, Tyler Smith, Amy Guy, Allen Guy and Ethan Sylvain; and one great-granddaughter Ila Violet "Nilla" Rankin. Funeral services will be Saturday, Oct. 16 at 1 p.m. at Sayles Funeral Home, with the Rev. John Marshall officiating. , 92, passed away peacefully at the Blaire House Nursing Home in Tewksbury, Mass., in the presence of her children, Jack and Sharon. Eleanor was the Blaire House's longest resident (2001-2010), and was affectionately known to the staff as "Ellie." Eleanor was the youngest child of Arthur and Ethel (Brownlow) Drown of Concord and St. Johnsbury, Vt. She was predeceased on May 26, 1962, by her husband, Stanley F. White, a Montpelier, Vt., builder/contractor and musician, whom she married on May 6, 1951. She was also predeceased by six brothers, Kenneth, Merle, Wendell, Wayne and Arthur. A brother, Donald, died in infancy. Her brother Maurice, age 95, lives in St. Johnsbury. Eleanor was born in Concord, Vt., on Nov. 17, 1917, and graduated from St. Johnsbury Academy, Class of 1936. After graduation, she began her career as a telephone operator and supervisor at the New England Telephone Company, and worked there for over 15 years. Eleanor was a dedicated wife and mother and, following the birth of her children, she remained home working closely with her husband in his contracting business in Montpelier. Always a strong proponent of higher education, coupled with her keen desire to never stop learning, Eleanor returned to school in her early 60s, and pursued an associates degree in library science through the Community College of Vermont. She worked in libraries in the St. Johnsbury area until moving to Massachusetts in 1979. Eleanor was a member of The Eastern Star and the Trinity Methodist Church in Montpelier, Vt. She particularly loved community service, and held leadership roles in Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, League of Women Voters and the Montpelier Mother's Club. With great foresight and generosity of spirit, Eleanor donated her body to Tufts New England Medical Center for medical science. Members of Eleanor's immediate family include her son and daughter-in-law, Jack White and Cathie Partridge-White of Nashua, N.H., and her daughter Sharon L. White of Raynham, Mass.; three grandchildren, Nathan White of San Francisco, Calif., Matthew White of Baltimore, Md., and Nicholas White of Shaker Heights, Ohio. She was extremely proud of her children's and grandchildren's achievements. In addition, she has many nieces, nephews and cousins whom she truly loved and thought of dearly. , 82, died Tuesday evening, Oct. 12, 2010, at Country Village Genesis Elder Care in Lancaster, N.H. Mr. Rosebrook was born in Lancaster on Nov. 6, 1927, the son of Earl and Gladys (Silver) Rosebrook. A lifetime resident of Lancaster, he was a graduate of Lancaster Academy. He served with the U.S. Air Force. He worked various jobs, including for Col. Town, the town of Lancaster, AD Sanel and the Rialto Theater, where he ran the movies. Edward was an avid bowler and proud member of the Lancaster Bowling League, where he won several trophies. He enjoyed singing and playing his guitar. He was a member of the Whitefield American Legion. Family members include two sons, Edward "Midge" Rosebrook Jr. and wife Glynda of Lancaster, and Michael Rosebrook and wife Pierrette of Grand Falls, New Brunswick; daughter Patricia A. Cotter and husband Robert of Lancaster; four grandchildren, Patrick Rosebrook, Jennifer Rosebrook, Andrea Cotter and Michael Cotter; one great-grandchild, Dylan Lambers. Three siblings predeceased him. Visiting hours will be held Thursday evening Oct. 14, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Bailey Funeral Home, Lancaster. , age 58, died Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2010, at Pine Knoll CCH in Lyndonville after a long and debilitating illness. Judy was born Feb. 25, 1952, in Claremont, N.H., the daughter of Roy Earl Cook of West Lebanon, N.H., and Ethera May Snelling of Sheffield Vt. Judy graduated from St. Johnsbury Academy, Class of 1972. She lived recently at Pilgrim Manor in West Burke and enjoyed attending the Community Meal Site there. Judy is survived by her mother, Ethera Snelling-Miles of Pownal, Vt.; siblings Roy Cook and wife Louise of Lyndonville, Bruce Miles of Woodford, Vt., and Beth Alison Miles of Pownal; niece Morgan Cook of Lyndonville; also many Berry, Snelling and Newland cousins. Judy was predeceased by her father, Roy Earl Cook, June 27, 1964. Judy had many friends over the years that drove her to appointments, helped her at home, etc., and her family wishes to express sincere gratitude to all of you. , 62, of Woodsville Road, Monroe, N.H., passed away Thursday, Oct. 14, 2010, surrounded by her loving family and friends after a very courageous five-year battle with cancer. Sally was born in Littleton, N.H., June 7, 1948, the daughter of Archie and Florence (Carpenter) Pelletier. She was adopted as an infant by Donald and Elsie (Burroughs) Hall. Sally lived in Monroe all her life and was a graduate of McIndoe Falls Academy, Class of 1968. She married William E. Dimick Jr. on May 5, 1967. She was a homemaker and loving mother. She loved moose, bird watching, her beautiful flower gardens, playing games, going for rides, laughter and funny jokes. She was a member of the Monroe Grange 49 where she served as a past lecturer and past master. She was also a member of Pomona, State and National Grange. She was predeceased by her parents and a sister, Adelma Foss. Survivors include her husband of 43 years, William E. Dimick Jr. of Monroe; two daughters, Belinda Emmons and husband Keith of Barnet, Vt., and Mary Dimick and fiancé Richard Fournier of McIndoe Falls, Vt.; a son, William E. Dimick III and fiancé Jennifer Labounty and her son Dillion of Monroe, N.H; two grandchildren, Micheal and Max Fournier; three brothers, Robert Pelletier and wife Sue of New Durham, N.H., James McCabe of Murray, Utah, and George Phillip Hall of Monroe; a sister-in-law, Marion Guertin of Manchester, Conn.; a brother-in-law, Jason Dimick and wife Suzie of Monroe; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and a life-long friend, Marla Caron of Monroe. , 86, died Oct. 7, 2010, at Palm Garden of Sun City Center, Fla. Mrs. Clark was born in Groveton, N.H., on Nov. 21, 1923, the daughter of Haven S. and Flora (Barnett) Blodgett. She was a longtime resident of Lancaster and worked as a nurses aid at Weeks Hospital for 26 years. Lillian was very talented and enjoyed painting. She also enjoyed cooking and sewing. After retirement she and her husband, Albert, spent a few winters in Nevada and many winters in Florida. She was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church, Lancaster, and a former Rebecca. Family members include her husband of 55 years, Albert M. Clark of Apollo Beach, Fla.; a daughter, Linda B. Clark Collins and husband Donald of Northumberland; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Services will be held at the convenience of the family.

, of Old Center Road in St. Johnsbury, passed away Monday, Oct. 18, 2010, at the age of 85. Gordon was born Dec. 10, 1924, in Columbia, N.H., and was the son of Lovell and Mertie (Annis) Oakes. Gordon served in the Army's 6th division, 20th infantry in Korea from April 1946 through April 1947. He married Pauline Clogston May 22, 1948; they raised their family in Concord. After 27 years of marriage, Pauline passed away on Oct. 2, 1974. On July 15, 1978, he married Lucille Jones Hoyt. Gordon was a man of many talents. He worked on Comerford Dam during its construction and as road commissioner for the town of Concord. Later he worked at Dana Sporting Goods in St. Johnsbury as a gunsmith and ski/boat mechanic. He went on to work at Vermont Tap and Die until he and Lucille started Oakes Furniture Barn in 1981, a business they ran together until 1988. Gordon and Lucille spent the next eight winters in Florida, returning to do craft fairs and flea markets, selling Lucille's crafts and his honey from his beloved bees; Gordon was an apiarist for over 50 years. He was a charter member of the Yankee Waters Camping Club and the Ralph J. Mollica VFW Post 793. Besides his first wife Pauline, he was predeceased by his two brothers, Glen and Fulford Oakes, and by his three sisters: Eleanor Thompson, Susie Keach, and Mable Sims. He is survived by his wife Lucille of 32 years; his two children, Robert G. Oakes and wife Nancy of Bondville, Vt., and Roberta A. Noel of Danby, Vt.; four grandchildren, Tim Oakes, Deborah Richford, Donna Mullin, and Michael Noel; seven great-grandchildren, Kevin and Shawn Oakes, William Richford, Max and Brady Mullin, Morgan and Paul Noel. He is also survived by Lucille's two daughters, Cheryl Hackett and Winn Thomas of North Chittenden Vt., Cynthia Stanton and husband Peter of Monroe N.H.; and Lucille's five grandchildren, Dana and Jeffrey Hackett; Michael, Nicholas, and Kevin Stanton. Funeral services will be held in St. Johnsbury this Saturday, Oct. 23 at 10 a.m. at Grace United Methodist Church. The Rev. John Marshall, pastor, will officiate. Immediately following the service, there will be a light reception in the church parlor. Committal services will follow at 3 p.m. in Pittsburg, N.H., at Pittsburg Hollow Cemetery. He was born in Gilman on Feb. 6, 1950, the son of Rupert and Mildred (Holloway) Wood. His father passed away early in Brent's life, in 1957. On March 19, 2007, his mother passed away. He was also predeceased by three brothers: Dean as an infant, Rupert Jr. and Bruce, and a sister Darlene Dowse and a half sister Edith Edney. He is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth McClure and husband Randy of Sheffield; two grandchildren, Nicholas and Joshua; three sisters, Janice Jackson and husband Robert of Lyndonville, Rena Nunn and husband James of Lyndonville, Lorna Persons and husband Dewey of St. Johnsbury; aunts and uncles; cousins, nieces and nephews. Margaret is survived by a brother, Ted Fisher of Sheffield; two stepchildren, Frederick Hobbs of Milford, Conn., and Betty Shand and husband Dave of Connecticut; several nieces, nephews and cousins, and a special nephew, Andrew Baird. She was predeceased by her husband, parents, sister Elfreda Bandy, and brothers Leon, George and Harold Fisher. , 24, of Cheyenne, Wyo., died Sept. 23 in Cheyenne. He was born May 10, 1986, in Cheyenne and had lived there all of his live. Degrenier was an avid hunter, and enjoyed fishing and spending time with his daughter. He is survived by his fiance, Shawna Whitehead of Cheyenne; daughter Aliza DeGrenier of Cheyenne; parents Vernon DeGrenier and Fran Oriano of Cheyenne and Louise and Sean Sweeden of Kittredge, Colo; his grandparents John and Lois Lenton of Cheyenne and Lewis DeGrenier of Oregon; three brothers, Nicholas Medina, Steven DeGrenier and Brandon DeGrenier, all of Cheyenne; and two half brothers, Shane Sweeden and Jacob Sweeden; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Pam DeGrenier. "It is kind that most of us will never know when we have fired our last shot or caught the last fish." Services were already held and interment followed at Olivet Cemetery. Casket bearers were Steven DeGrenier, Brandon DeGrenier, Nicholas Medina, John Lenton Jr., Jeff Cozad and Kyle Wilson.
Donald Harvey Godbout "Gaddy" ....show
76, of Sugar Hill, N.H., was delivered to his heavenly family on Oct. 13, 2010. Born in Littleton, N.H., son of Donat and Clara (O'Day) Godbout, Donald was a graduate of Saint Rose of Lima in 1948 and Littleton High School in 1952. Donald was a powerhouse operator for the New England Power Company at the Moore Dam and Comerford Stations. He also was a plant manager for Silver Brothers Distributing Company in Berlin, N.H. In 1951, at age 17, Don was employed by the state of New Hampshire as a ski patrolman at Cannon Mountain. From 1980 to 1990 he was a tram car operator. His most memorable day of employment at Cannon Mountain was conducting the tram car on its inaugural voyage. Along with his family, Donald ran a successful mail-order Christmas wreath business for 45 years. After retiring, Don was an information and tour operator guide for White Mountain Attractions in Lincoln, N.H. Donald was a Benevolent Brother of the Littleton Elks Lodge 1831 for 47 years. He was member 554 of the "Good Old Boys Club." On his farm in Sugar Hill, he, along with his children, built three family houses. He enjoyed gardening, and tinkering with his tractor. His wanderlust took him and his family on many trips, north, south, east and west for skiing, camping, fishing, hiking and rafting adventures. He is survived by his four children, Kevin Godbout, of Seattle, Wash., Erin Godbout of Sugar Hill, N.H., Bryan Godbout of Gunnison, Colo., Alicia and husband Greg Champagne of Beverly, Mass.; he was a proud "Grampa Donny" to Claire and Nicole Godbout of Seattle and Elizabeth Champagne of Beverly, Mass.; a sister Loretta and husband Willis Silver, now of Colorado Springs, Colo., He was also fond of Pam Binhack and Dana Malenfant, a daughter and son of his late wife, Nancy Ramsdell Godbout whom he joins in heaven together with his mother and father. , 64, died Sunday morning, Oct. 17, 2010, at Fletcher Allen Medical Center after battling a prolonged illness. Theresa was born on Nov. 1, 1945, in St. Johnsbury, Vt., the daughter of Francis and Gloria Quatrini. On Nov. 17, 1962, she married Roger Buckbee, the love of her life, in St. Johnsbury. She enjoyed times spent with family, especially her two grandsons. She spent countless hours at her grandson's hockey practices and games, and enjoyed traveling with their teams, in many ways becoming "Nan" to most everyone. Theresa was a volunteer driver for the North Western Transportation Co., transporting seniors to Richford, Enosburg, St. Albans and the Islands. She is survived by her parents, Francis and Gloria Quatrini of St. Johnsbury; her children Brent Buckbee and wife Brenda of St. Albans, Laurie Buckbee of Fairfax, and Brian Buckbee and wife Lori of Colchester; grandsons Ryan and Matthew Buckbee; brothers Steve and wife Susan Quatrini of St. Johnsbury, and Bryon and wife Janet Quatrini of St. Johnsbury; sisters-in-law June Buckbee of Ohio and Vicki Quatrini of St. Johnsbury; her aunt Anna Hawks of Connecticut; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 45 years, Roger Buckbee, who passed away in 2007, and her brother Gary Quatrini, who passed away in 2001. , 52, resident of Brookline, N.H., died on Oct. 14, 2010, at his home. He was born in Concord, Vt., on March 11, 1958, a son of Wilbur L. "Cody" Parker of Rochester, N.H., and the late Elaine (Mooney) Parker. Jim was raised and educated in Vermont and graduated from St. Johnsbury Academy, Class of 1976. Following graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged in 1982. For the past five years, he resided in Brookline, N.H., and had formerly lived in Pittsfield, N.H., for many years. He was employed by Iron Workers Union Local No. 7, Boston, Mass., for 30 years. Jim was an avid outdoorsman and especially enjoyed hunting, fly-fishing and made many trips to the Arctic Circle. He was a member of the Horse Pond Fish & Game Club of Nashua, N.H., and the National Rifle Association. Jim was a loving father and will always be remembered for his ability to form instant friendships with anyone he met. In addition to his father, family members include a son, Dakota Parker of Manchester, N.H.; a daughter, Nicole Parker of Concord, N.H.; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Pamela and Michael Demers of Pembroke, N.H., Susan and David Simms of Pensacola, Fla.; his loving longtime companion, Shelley Laurencio of Brookline, N.H.; stepchildren, Christopher and Leah Laurencio of Nashua, N.H., Tiffany Laurencio of Essex, Mass.; a grandson, Christopher James Laurencio; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. , longtime resident of Lincoln Street in St. Johnsbury, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2010, at the age of 92. He was born in St. Johnsbury on June 11, 1918, the son of Herbert William and Glenn (Tisdale) Conly. Doug attended schools in St. Johnsbury and was a 1936 graduate of St. Johnsbury Trade School. He took great delight in telling stories about his youth growing up "on the farm" on Higgins Hill and walking long distances to and from school each day. He married Loretta Veilleux Oct. 24, 1942. She passed away Jan. 17, 2005. While working at the Navy shipyard in Bath, Maine, he volunteered for service in the Army in 1942. For most of his enlistment, he was stationed in Oak Ridge, Tenn., helping to build the infrastructure for the Manhattan Project. Upon receiving his honorable discharge in 1945, he returned to St. Johnsbury and worked along side his father Herb and older brother Bill who had also just returned from serving his country in World War II. The local business was then known as H.W. Conly's Plumbing and Heating, operating out of their shop under the Portland Street bridge. Doug and Bill became partners in the business upon the passing of their father in 1961, when the business became known as Conly's Plumbing and Heating. Doug took up the game of golf and regularly played at St. Johnsbury Country Club with his dear friend Lawrence "Stub" Clark. An avid vegetable gardener and groundskeeper, he kept busy during the summer season experimenting with different plantings and gardening methods. His well-equipped basement shop allowed him to pass the winters with woodworking and metalworking hobbies. Doug also very much enjoyed reading Louis Lamore novels and historical nonfiction. Like most his age, Doug took pride in his frugal and conservative nature and enjoyed a good political argument with several of his nieces' husbands. Although not a deeply religious man, Doug took solitude in nature and helping those in need. As a New York Yankee fan, October was his month to kid his acquaintances that happened to be Red Sox fans including his wife and son George. Doug had been a resident of Canterbury Inn since January of this year and made many new friends and acquaintances while there. He is survived by two sons, George H. Conly and wife Ruth (Porter) of Cape Elizabeth and Sweden, Maine, and Douglas D. Conly and wife Patricia (Houghton) of Lyndonville; four grandchildren, Christopher Conly of Brooklyn, N.Y., Kara Conly of Tacoma, Wash., Melissa Conly-Newland of Danville, and Patrick Conly of Lyndonville; one great-grandchild, Madison Lorraine Newland; a sister, Mildred Conly Adams residing at the St. Johnsbury Health & Rehab Center; numerous nieces and nephews. Besides Loretta, Doug was predeceased by his brother William Herbert Conly, and a sister, Harriett Conly Benoit Johnson. Funeral services will be held at Sayles Funeral Home Monday, Oct. 25, at 11 a.m. Mr. John Sleeper will officiate. Military honors will follow at the Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Mrs. Faus attended schools in Lynn and graduated from Massachusetts College of Pharmacy. She spent 50 wonderful years as a practicing pharmacist retiring in 2004. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Massena. She is survived by her loving husband, Lawrence whom she married on Jan. 9, 2001 in Danville, Vt.; one son, James Joseph Foley, III of Rowley, Mass.; one daughter, Martha Foley of Brooklyn, NY; one granddaughter, Elizabeth Scales of Brooklyn; two wonderful friends, Sue and Dean Triffitt of Lynnfield, Mass.; dear friends, Joan and Eric Westcott, the Ladies of the United Methodist Women at Grace United Methodist Church of Massena. , 91, of Groveton, N.H., died Thursday, Oct. 21, 2010, in the comfort of her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on Nov. 4, 1918, in East Hereford, Quebec, the oldest child of Alcée and Florida (Gagner) Fournier. She retired as a Title I teacher at Groveton Elementary School in 1994. She was a devoted homemaker and enjoyed baking pies, playing cards, and solving her daily Cryptoquips and Jumbles. She was a member of the Daughters of Isabella for many years. She has lived in the Groveton area nearly 70 years. She was a beloved matriarch. She is survived by her 13 children: Paul Cotter and wife Alice of Poinciana, Fla., Raymond Cotter and wife Jackie of West Covina, Calif., Louise Boothby and husband Jerry of Greensboro, N.C., Norman Cotter and wife Bonnie of Northumberland, Robert Cotter and wife Patty of Lancaster, Muriel Hall and husband Tim of Bow, Mona Cotter of Oakley, Utah, Maurice Cotter and wife Brenda of Denair, Calif., Lorraine Cotter of Brattleboro, Vt., Pauline Hedberg and husband Ted of Dover, Susie Riley and husband Jerry of Brunswick, Vt., Lynn Collins and husband Mike of Waterford, Vt., and Daniel Cotter and wife Kim of Spofford. , 87, of Newbury, Vt., died at Cottage Hospital in Woodsville, N.H., on Oct. 23, 2010. Reginald was born in Haverhill, N.H., on April 15, 1923, to William Albert and Florence (Avery) Minshull Sr. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from Feb. 24, 1943, until Jan. 4, 1946, and was a member of the Army National Guard until his honorable discharge in 1955. He worked as a self-employed building contractor and as a carpenter for other contractors in the area. Reginald belonged to the Ross Wood Post #20 of the American Legion in Woodsville and the Haverhill Memorial Post #5245 of the VFW. He was an avid reader and outdoor enthusiast who loved wildlife and walking in the woods. He was a builder and craftsman, well known for his great bird feeders and birdhouses. He will be missed by all who knew him and admired his gentle manner. He will be remembered for his commitment to his country. Most of all, he will be remembered for his infectious laugh. He married Fernwood Aremburg in 1950 and she predeceased him in 1960. He was also predeceased by his two brothers, Richard Minshull on Jan. 11, 2003, and William A. Minshull Jr. on July 22, 2007. He is survived by his caring and devoted sister, Elizabeth Santaw of Ryegate, VT; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and longtime friends Phyllis Vogel and Janet Frazier, both of Newbury. , 87, a life long resident of Monroe, died at home with his wife and family by his side, on Saturday, Oct. 23, 2010. David was born in Monroe on October 2, 1923, to Raymond and Glenna (King) Choate. David loved music his whole life, starting at age 9 with baritone horn lessons by George McClure. Seven of his siblings played also, nearly enough for their own band. At age 14, David was chosen as 1st baritone at the All State Music Festival in Burlington, Vt. He continued with McClure's Band until his graduation from McIndoe Falls Academy. Like many of his generation, David answered the call to arms. Still, he found time for music, playing popular tunes of the day with fellow servicemen while stationed in England. David manned a 50-caliber gun mounted on a halftrack for his unit, the 474th AAA Auto Weapons Battalion which participated in the invasion of Normandy, the St. Lo breakthrough, and the Battle of the Bulge. On June 24, 1943, he married Nellie Carter. Along with Nellie, David owned and operated the Sears Catalog Store in Woodsville, N.H., until retiring in 1988. David was a member of the Monroe Church and a former member of the Monroe Men's Club. As a member of the Woodsville-Wells River Rotary, he was a recipient of the Paul Harris Fellow award. He was active as a manager of the McClure's Alumni Band. David enjoyed puttering around his home and property. He loved his family and his animals and enjoyed his cottage at Old Orchard Beach. He was predeceased by two sisters, Carolyn Stillings and Anna West, and four brothers, Clifton, Erwin, Frank and Emerson Choate. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Nellie Choate of Monroe; five children, Sharon O'Connor and husband Bill, Deane Moore and husband Don of Peacham, Vt., Maurie Choate of Pahrump, Nev., David W. Choate Jr. and wife Mary Saucier Choate of Monroe, and Carter Erwin Choate and partner Dan Wheeler of Standish, Maine; six grandchildren, Donald Moore Jr. and wife Lisa of Peacham, Heather Hudson of Peacham, and Heidi Moore of Danville, Vt., Lea Colleen O'Connor, Amy Leigh O'Connor, William John O'Connor Jr.; five great-grandchildren, Jennifer and Donald Moore III, and Colton, Bailey and Pearl Hudson; a sister, Doris Blodgett of Littleton, N.H.; two brothers, Richard Choate of Lisbon, N.H., and Carroll "Stub" Choate of Twin Mountain, N.H.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. , 72, of Lyndonville, Vt., died at home Saturday, Oct. 23, 2010, after a lengthy battle from the effect of multiple strokes. She was born in Hartford, Vt., on Sept. 7, 1938. She was the daughter of Lee and Dorothy (Labbie) St. John of White River Junction, Vt. She was employed as a cashier at Purity Supreme in Lebanon, N.H., for 27 years until her health forced her to retire. Her husband Charles A. Ladue used his expertise, gained over the 30 years he worked at the VA hospital, to give Pauline excellent bedside nursing care. Pauline's strong love for her family, along with her husband's care, helped prolong her life to this point. Pauline is survived by her beloved husband of 52 years, Charles A. Ladue of Lyndonville, Vt.; two daughters, Cindy Williams and husband Mark Williams of Braintree, Vt., and Nancy Norrie and husband Larry Norrie of Lyndonville, Vt.; seven grandchildren, including Jessica Norrie, William Norrie, Katlyn Norrie, Aubrey Kinney, Zachary Williams, Melissa Kempton, Tiffany (Kempton) Carr and husband Mike Carr; and one great-grandchild Bensen Carr. She was predeceased by her parents, Lee and Dorothy (Labbie) St. John and her sister and brother-in-law Elizabeth and Lester Oakes all of White River Junction, Vt. Pauline will be remembered as a hero to her family; she was a very kind and caring person, known to have a heart of gold. She was an excellent cook, wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and best friend. She will be sadly missed by her family. There will be a church memorial service for Pauline at the First Congregational Church in Lyndonville on Thursday, Oct. 28, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. The Rev. Judi Horgan will officiate. A graveside burial will be observed in the spring.

, 91, of Lyndonville, died Saturday evening Oct. 23, 2010, at the Pines Rehabilitation & Health Ctr. in Lyndon. He was born July 21, 1919, in Lowell, Mass., the son of John and Rosemary (Tulley) McLaughlin Sr. In 1940 John married Evelyn Gardner. She predeceased him in 1969. In 1971 he married Shirley (Larabee) Paquette. She predeceased him on May 22, 2010. John served his country in the U.S. Army for five years during World War II and was a survivor of Pearl Harbor. He was a member of the VFW Post 10038 of Lyndonville, and the American Legion Jay Peak Post 28 of North Troy. John worked as a machinist for Vermont Tap & Die Co. in Lyndonville for 33 years retiring in 1980. He enjoyed cooking for family, friends, and the organizations he was involved with. Survivors include three stepchildren, Judy Little of Lyndonville, Elson Paquette and his wife Barbara of Bellevue, Neb., and Norman Paquette of Lyndonville; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Chester Lightbody of Foxboro, Mass.; and many nieces and nephews including John McLaughlin and wife Karen, and Loella Fillmore and husband John; and a special great-great-niece, Alexis Wheeler of Charleston. John was also predeceased by his three sisters; Violet, Virginia, and Ruth. Graveside funeral services will be held Thursday Oct. 28, at 11 a.m. at Woodmont Cemetery in East Burke with the Rev. , 22, most recently of Boston, Mass., died Oct. 24, 2010. Josh was born in Littleton, N.H., on March 27, 1988, to Jeffrey Alan and Jane Marie (Tuttle) Stimson. He was a 2006 graduate of Woodsville High School. He attended the Advanced Studies Program at St. Paul's for mathematics. Josh majored in computer science at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, N.Y., for a year and a half prior to transferring to Boston University in 2008 and graduating from the School of Management in 2010. He had recently started to work for Accenture as an analyst in Boston. Josh enjoyed the outdoors, mixed martial arts, boxing and golf. He played rugby at RPI, and helped establish competitive paintball teams at both colleges. He was on the ski team in high school and at both colleges. Josh played on consecutive Class S championship soccer teams. He had a keen interest in investing and served three internships with Bank of America in New York City. Josh operated his own web design business. He enjoyed wide variety of music and attended concerts frequently. He was an avid fan of all Boston sports. He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, J. Forbes and Dorothy Tuttle, and his paternal grandparents, Erville and Roberta Stimson. Survivors include his parents, Jeffrey and Jane Stimson of North Haverhill; two brothers, Jonathan F. and Jason C. Stimson also of North Haverhill; a maternal aunt, Sandra DeGregorio and husband John of Rocky Hill, Conn., and their daughters Tracey Sims, and Leslie and husband Rich Partynski and their children Alicia and Michelle; paternal aunts Barbara Robinson of Woodsville, N.H., and Betty Stimson of Bath, N.H.; an uncle Ron Stimson and wife Peggy of Rochester, N.Y.; numerous cousins; and his girlfriend Nicole Saunders of Westport, Conn. , a longtime resident of East Barnet, Vt., died on Oct. 26 after a short illness. Nancy was born Nancy Nelson in St. Albans, Vt., on March 26, 1934, the daughter of Clayton and Jennie Nelson. She attended schools in St. Albans and moved to Burlington, where she met Edmund Kennedy in 1959. Nancy and Ed married in 1960, and moved to St. Johnsbury in 1965, where they raised their three children. Nancy worked with special-needs children for 17 years as an educator in the St. Johnsbury school district. She enjoyed her family, her cats, her books and spending time on the Maine coast. She is survived by her husband of 50 years; her daughter Kathleen Runyon and husband Jeff Runyon of Sugar Hill, Ga.; her son Kevin Kennedy and wife Brenda (Sweeney) of Marlboro, Vt.; her son Peter Kennedy and wife Sage (Chandler) of Calais, Vt.; her grandchildren Christopher and Katie Runyon, Mesa and Liam Kennedy, Simon and Leland Kennedy; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sisters Helena, Madeline and Jackie, and her brother Clayton. He was born in Boston, Mass., March 7, 1921, the son of George Sherman and Frances C. (Peters) Lewis. He attended grammar school in Boston, and graduated from Mechanics Arts High School and Burdett Business College. Jim served as the co-owner, treasurer, and general manager of Lenk Inc. Automotive Wholesale Distributors, an automotive parts business, around Boston and Alston, Mass., and Hartford, Conn. Jim moved to the Haverhill area in 1962 and owned and operated the Woodsville Motel, which is now the All Season's Motel in Woodsville, N.H. He worked for 10 years as the sales manager for the North Country News Independent, retiring in 1988. Jim served on the Town of Haverhill Budget Committee and was a communicant of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Woodsville, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Quincy, Mass. He married Liberty M. Usle on April 29, 1944, and she predeceased him on June 30, 1996. He was also predeceased by a son, Stephen R. Lewis, on Oct. 9, 1988, and by a daughter, Linda Jewett, on May 10, 2010. Later, he married Mary Ann Dellinger on Aug. 30, 1997. Survivors include his wife of 13 years, Mary Ann Lewis of Woodsville; a son, James M. Lewis Jr. and wife Alana of Littleton, N.H.; two stepdaughters, Deborah Russell of San Diego, Calif., and Peg Wahl and husband Peter of Bennington, N.H.; two stepsons, Walter Dellinger and wife Julie, and Chris Dellinger and wife Grace, both of North Haverhill; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. , 89, died peacefully Oct. 23, 2010, at the Harvest Hill retirement home in Lebanon, N.H. He was born to Isabelle Houghton Igleheart and George Priest Igleheart in Phillipsburg, N.J. Bill was raised in New Jersey and spent his summers in Greensboro, Vt. He graduated early from Princeton University and immediately entered the Army in the 10th Mountain Division with which he served overseas in Italy during World War II and where he received the Bronze Star for valor. After the war, he married Julia Hackman, the sister of one of his army buddies. He attended Harvard Business School where he received his MBA. As a reservist he was called back for the Korean conflict and trained troops for overseas action. He then returned to New Jersey with his wife and two young daughters and continued his career at New York Life where two more daughters were welcomed into the family. The family then moved to Chicago where he was a vice president at Chicago Title & Trust before returning to Connecticut for a position with Aetna Life & Casualty as the vice president in charge of common stocks. Throughout his life, the family enjoyed summer vacations in Vermont with extended family and friends and where he could indulge his love of the outdoors and sports, especially golf. He is buried in Greensboro, Vt., beside his wife, Judy, who died in April 2000. Bill is survived by his four daughters, Wendy Otavsky and husband Paul, Cynthia Dallmeyer and husband Scott, Heidi Lyman and husband Jeffery, Melissa Lipton and husband Gary; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. passed on to the other side Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2010, at the age of 67 in her home at 22 Carleton St., Littleton, N.H., surrounded by family and close friend Bonnie Trahan after a long and stoic battle with cancer. She was born in Littleton on Aug. 9, 1943, the daughter of Joseph and Rita Cote Laveau, both whom predeceased her. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Fredrick Presley; three sons, Fredrick Jr. and partner Joanne of Littleton, N.H., Kevin and partner Heather of Landaff, N.H., and Timothy of Littleton; three granddaughters, Carrie-Jo Presley and partner Rob Johnson of Maine, Destiny and Ayla Presley of Landaff; a special grandson, Clinton Ness of Landaff; a great-granddaughter, Avery Marie Johnson of Maine; a sister, Theresa Laveau and partner Reggie Kennison of Littleton; sister-in-law Sandra Presley Wilson and husband Richard Wilson of Littleton; nephews, nieces and cousins. Cecile attended the St. Rose of Lima school and Littleton High School. She and Fred were married on Nov. 3, 1962, in Littleton. Her favorite hobbies were knitting, sewing, camping and walking. Her dog, Jenney, was her special love and companion. She loved to work and enjoyed her profession for many years in the banking business. She enjoyed many years and her last days of working at Woodsville Bank on Cottage Street in Littleton, and thought the world of all her co-workers. Spry and energetic, she was admired by all, and known as a true lady; and she went as a lady with grace, pride and dignity. She will be sorely missed by family, special friends and all who knew her. At Cecile's request, there will be no calling hours or funeral. The family will have a private scattering of her ashes at a later date. Afterglow - I'd like the memory of me to be a happy one, I'd like to leave an afterglow of smiles when day is gone. I'd like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways Of happy times, and laughing times, and bright sunny days. I'd like the tears of those who grieve to dry before the sun. died on Oct. 27, 2010, at the age of 88. He was born in St. Johnsbury, in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont. He graduated from St. Johnsbury Academy in the Class of 1939. In 1942, Gordon joined the Army Air Corps and flew combat missions out of England in 1943 and 1944. While serving with the 68th Squadron of the 44th Flight Group, he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, with four bronze battle stars, and the Air Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters. In 1949 he entered the Railway Postal Service and worked on the Boston and Albany RPO, SPG, and NY RPO along with other lines and installations before transferring to the Springfield, Mass., post office, where he retired in 1980. Since 1981 Gordon has lived in Florida.
