, age 59, a Sheffield resident, lost a courageous battle with cancer Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2010, at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital with her husband by her side. She was born Oct. 6, 1951, in Burlington to Renè and Elaine Lacross. She graduated from Burlington High School and married Robert Bardsley. Debra enjoyed scrapbooking, making greeting cards and gardening. She was a homebody but did manage Deb's Deli at Curier's Market in Glover for a season. Debra is survived by her husband, Robert Bardsley of Sheffield; three children, Scott DeLorme of Winooski, Karen DeLorme of St. Albans, and Amy DeLorme of California; her mother, Elaine Lacross of Burlington; six siblings, David, Kevin, Judy, Dawn, Karen and Paula. She was predeceased by her father, Renè. There will be no calling hours and services will be at the convenience of the family.

, 70, of Main Street, Lisbon, died peacefully Tuesday evening, Nov. 30, at Lafayette Center in Franconia after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in New London, Conn., on March 21, 1940, to Bert and Eva (White) Miner, she was raised and lived in Connecticut until moving to Florida where she lived for 15 years before moving to New Hampshire 4½ years ago. Bea enjoyed cooking and being a housewife and loved her cat. She was a member of the Eagles Ladies Auxiliary. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Richard Ellis Sr. of Lyman, N.H.; daughter Beatrice Lacoss of Lyman, N.H.; three sons, Richard Ellis Jr. of Middletown, Conn., Bert Ellis of Millinocket, Maine, and Robert Ellis of Middletown, Conn.; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one sister Shirley Quinn of Canterbury, Conn.; and many nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held at Spencer Funeral Home in East Hampton, Conn., on Sunday, Dec. 5 from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be Monday, Dec. 6 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. , 75, of Coventry passed away on Nov. 30, 2010, in Newport. She was born on Aug. 7, 1935, in Newport Town (Newport Center), the daughter of Damon and Leora (Rollins) Bowen. On June 25, 1955 she married Chester Taylor who survives her. Mrs. Taylor was the Coventry Village School lunch manager until she retired in 1997. Virginia was a life member of the Eureka Grange of Coventry. She enjoyed cooking, working on her computer, sewing, and she was a great homemaker. She was a leader of the community and supported many local schools, churches, clubs, organizations and charities. Virginia is survived by her husband Chester Taylor of Coventry, her children Valerie and Brad Autry of Garland, Texas, Carleen and Mark Leonhardt of League City, Texas, Brian and Christine Taylor of Milton, Steve Taylor and Sara Wright of Coventry; grandchildren Evan and Tyla Autry, Courtney and Austin Leonhardt, Jenna and Jacob Taylor, David, Kaitlyn, and Anthony Wright; a sister-in-law Lorraine Bowen of Derby; several nieces, nephews and other relations. She was predeceased by three brothers, Roderick Bowen, Carlton Bowen and Sidney Rollins. A memorial and remembrance service will be held at a later date. , 58, a lifelong New Hampshire resident and Dover native, died Dec. 4, 2010. Son of the late Daniel P. Herlihy and Lois B. (Perry/Herlihy) McBride, Gary was a 1970 graduate of St. Thomas Aquinas High School. He obtained a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering from Cornell University in 1974 and worked at Cornell as a research assistant until 1980. Gary was employed by The MITRE Corporation in Bedford, Mass., for over 29 years; first designing Air Force project networks, then designing and troubleshooting the corporate MITRE networks. He loved Apple computers and technology and scenic drives in his Miata, and had an interest in music and short-wave radio. Gary is survived by and will be deeply missed by his wife, Rita (Quinton) Herlihy, of Nashua, N.H.; his mother and step-father, Lois and James McBride of Dover, N.H.; his sister and brother-in-law, Julie and James Ashworth of West Glover, Vt.; his brother and sister-in-law Patrick and Catherine Herlihy of Contoocook, N.H.; and nieces and nephews Jamie and Josef Ashworth, and Sean, Siobhan and Chiara Herlihy; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. (Hubacz) and their children; Alora A. and Noah R.; along with 33 first cousins, later joined his loving family, who now mourn his loss. Justin is also survived by his wife Stacey (De La Rosa) and her family. Their precious baby, John W. Lincoln, and Cathleen A. Roth, predeceased him. Richard M. Roth followed him into eternity on Nov. 19, 2010. Justin was a man of integrity, who had a deep faith in God. A patriot in the truest sense of the word, Justin was a senior airman, and member of the Texas State Guard, 4th Wing, 454th Air Support Group. He was posthumously promoted to staff sergeant. Justin will be remembered for his enthusiasm for life and his concern for others. , longtime resident of Harvey St. in St. Johnsbury, died early Monday morning, Dec. 6, 2010 at the age of 82. He was born in West Danville, Vt., on Dec. 15, 1927, and was the son of Guy and Mildred (Daniels) Davenport. On Sept. 18, 2004 his wife Leah (Cheever) Davenport passed away. Stan worked at Fairbanks for 43 years. He was a veteran of World War II having served overseas in the Army Air Corps. His memberships included the VFW Post 793 (life member), American Legion Post 58, and Washburn Masonic Lodge 92 in Danville. He is survived by his daughter, Linda Amadon and her husband Merle of Waterford; his son Stephen Davenport of Westmore; one grandson Stephen S. Davenport; one great-grandchild, Rylee Ann Davenport; two brothers, Guy Davenport and wife Joanne of Naples, Fla., Dorrance Davenport and wife Patricia of Live Oak, Fa.; and one sister, Rita Davenport of Waterford. He was predeceased by two sisters Lorraine Shallow and Eleanor Willey. Funeral services will be held at Sayles Funeral Home on Friday, Dec. 10 at 11 a.m. The Rev. Robert H. Sargent will officiate. , 62, of Littleton, N.H., passed away Monday, Nov. 22, 2010, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, Lebanon, N.H., after a period of declining health. He was born in Littleton in 1948, to Franklin Israel "Smitty" Smith and Dorothy Isabelle "Chicken"(Cote) Smith. He was raised in Bethlehem, N.H., and often told the story of living with the Mohawk Indians in the 1950s when his father worked on the St. Lawrence Seaway in Massena, N.Y. Besides attending school on the Mohawk Reservation, he was educated in the Littleton school district, graduating from Littleton High School in 1967. Butch served in the U.S. Air Force from 1967 to 1968. He began working at Cannon Mountain as a snow maker in 1969 and worked as park manager of the Flume, snow-making and construction foreman, and mountain equipment operator until an injury led to his retirement in 1995. After his recovery, he enjoyed delivering vehicles across New England for Littleton Chevrolet. Butch was a longtime member of the board of trustees of the Glenwood Cemetery Association. Through the years he was a member of the Franconia Fire Department, coached Little League Baseball, supported Littleton Youth Hockey, and participated in NHRA drag racing with his friend Tom Berry. He had a lifetime passion for hunting and fishing and most recently enjoyed RV camping in the summers with his family. He had a special interest in anything Native American and his genealogy hobby made him the keeper of the family tree. On Jan. 27, 2007, he married his longtime companion, Steffaney (Lennard) Smith, in Littleton, N.H. Family members include his children, Timi Duguay and husband Jim of West Lebanon, N.H.; Thaddeus Smith and wife Samantha of West Stewartstown, N.H.; Tonya Pinkham and husband Paul of Bethlehem, N.H.; a special niece, Kristen Pihl Avery and husband Patrick of Bath, N.H. He loved his three stepchildren as his own: Colin Highland and his wife Jenny of Milton, Mass.; Niall Highland of Manila, The Philippines; and Devon Highland of La Habra, Calif. Survivors also include his brothers Mike Smith and his wife Lisa of Bethlehem; John Smith of Bethlehem; his sister Kathy Baker and husband Lance of Whitefield, N.H.; 10 grandchildren; eight nieces and nephews; four grand-nieces and nephews; and several much-loved cousins. A sister, Judy Smith Hucksoll, and his parents predeceased him. , of Crow Hill, Danville, passed away at NVRH on Sunday, Dec. 5, 2010, at the age of 77. He was born in Paterson, N.J., and for years resided on Hillcrest Avenue in Hawthorne, N.J. Following Bob's service in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean conflict, he went on to a career as an air traffic controller at Morristown, JFK and Newark airports. He was a lifetime NRA member and an avid hunter. The Eschmanns, after Bob's 30 years of service, retired to Vermont in 1985. He is survived by his wife, Alice (Oppelaar), of Danville; two sons, Carl Eschmann of Danville, and Kurt Eschmann and wife Janet of Concord and their two children Breanna and Jacob. , 74, of East Haven, died Thursday, Nov. 25, 2010, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H., with his family by his side. He was born July 14, 1936, in St. Johnsbury, the son of Floyd and Edith (Shastany) Easter. Rod graduated from St. Johnsbury Trade School in 1954. On Sept. 9, 1955, he married M. Jean Rivers. They lived in St. Johnsbury before moving to East Haven in 1966. Rod worked in the automotive repair business for over 40 years. For 30 years he was the service manager for Vinton Motors in St. Johnsbury. Following retirement he worked part time for Brighton Garage in Island Pond. Rod was active in his East Haven community, serving as selectman and filling other town positions over the years. He was a founding member of the East Haven Volunteer Fire Department. He also was a founding member of the East Haven Drift Skippers Snowmobile Club, and a member of V.A.S.T., spending many years building and improving snowmobile trails. He was an avid NASCAR fan. During the 1960s he was the mechanic for race car No. 87 at Northeastern Speedway in Waterford, which was driven by Glen Gadapee. Camping and helping out at Lakeside Campground in Brighton, and hunting, brought him much pleasure. He was always available to help family, friends and neighbors when needed. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Jean Easter of East Haven; two children, Rodney Easter Jr. and partner Dianne Rivers of Newark, and Lynn Masure and husband Michael of East Haven; three special grandchildren, Joshua Simpson, and Ethan and Haley Masure; three brothers, Lionel "Skip" Easter and wife Carol of Victory, Donald Easter and wife Bonnie of Barnet, and Douglas Easter and partner Hilde Sparrow of East Burke; a sister, Roxann Stacy and husband AJ of North Carolina; his in-laws, Madelyn Easter, Brenda Easter, Glen and Linda Gadapee, Robert and Shirley Rivers, Scott and Linda Rivers, Dorothy and John Houghton, Judy and Robert Bickford, Lena Mitchell, Rachel and Charlie Cole, Rochelle and Randy Simpson, and Margaret and George Humphrey; many nieces and nephews; his special friends Ken and Nancy White; and his loving dog Midget. , 94, of Lyndonville, Vt., and formally of Manchester, Conn., died Tuesday morning Dec. 7, 2010, at St. Johnsbury Health and Rehabilitation Center in St. Johnsbury, Vt. He was born Oct. 22, 1916, in Manchester, Conn., the son of Henry and Bertha (Knofla) Gess. In 1935 he graduated from Manchester High School. In 1939 Bill married Grace Reed. She predeceased him in 1979. They lived in Manchester where they raised their family. During World War II, Bill served in the U.S. Army and the Connecticut National Guard. Bill worked for Colt Firearms in Hartford for 10 years. He then worked for Pratt and Whitney as a machinist in East Hartford for 32 years. He also worked as a part-time cook at some of the Manchester-area restaurants. He was a member of the Zipser Club, the Army Navy Club, and was a Boy Scout Stewart for Troop 25, all of Manchester, Conn. Bill is remembered as a good father and a great man who was always willing to help anyone in need. Survivors include his four children, Ronald Gess and wife Mary Ellen of Manchester, Conn., Cynthia Brown and husband Gary of Micco, Fla., Richard Gess and wife Beverly of Lyndonville, Vt., and George Gess and wife Beatrice of Jefferson, N.C.; many grandchildren and step-grandchildren; his sister, Dorothy Gess of Andover, Conn.; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, his wife, and his 5-year-old son Robert, who drowned in 1951 and was the twin brother of Richard. , a Sheffield resident and lifelong resident of the Northeast Kingdom, passed away Monday, Dec. 6, 2010, at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital. He was 88 years of age. He was born July 14, 1922, in Lyndonville. He is the son of the late Harry W. and Susie B. (Shaw) Young. He married Thelma Hudson on May 5, 1945. She predeceased him on Jan. 27, 1970. Richard was a true logger, using mules and horses, and he also did some farming. He loved to fish, sugar and swap tall tales; he especially loved children and had a nickname for each, whether they be young or old. For Richard, life was good -- you knew that just spending time with him. He will be dearly missed. Richard is survived by a brother, Floyd Young and wife Mary Ann of East Concord; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by a son, Robert Young, on Feb. 20, 1996; a sister, Virginia Greenwood; a brother, Irving Young; and a longtime companion, Mary Cole. Visiting hours will be held at Sheffield Federated Church, Saturday, Dec. 11 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with a funeral service beginning at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Tim Pittman officiating. He was born in Salem, Mass., on Feb. 10, 1955, son to Russell Robert Ross Sr. and the late Nathalie (Abraham) Ross. He was a scholar and veteran Submarine Service All Fleet. He leaves his clearly loved wife Dianna; their children 13-year-old triplets Joseph "Joey," Isaiah and Bonnie, 21-year-old son Matthew, and 20-year-old daughter Rachael whom he loved dearly with all his heart; two brothers, Mark of Essex, Mass., Michael "Mickey" of Salem, Mass.; and sister Susan of Wenham, Mass., whom he loved and was devoted to; Bobby, Tommy and Dick Romboli, and Mark Walkup whom he was particularly close to in life and in death. Russell Also had a church family at Grace Brethren Church in Island Pond, Vt., to which he was devoted. Russell spent many years studying the Bible and had a deep faith in God and Christ. , 81, of Church Street, Barnet, died on Thursday, Dec. 9, 2010, at her residence. Ethel was born in Deer Park, Wash., June 9, 1929, the daughter of Oscar O. and Helen Irene (Lindsay) Hussey. She married Joseph E. Desrosiers on Aug. 7, 1961. She spent her early years in Nevada and had also lived in California and Utah. In 1979, Joseph and Ethel settled in Barnet, where they purchased a dairy farm. Her interests included reading, crossword puzzles and board games. She loved spending time with her family and grandchildren. She was predeceased by two sisters, Wilma Hussey and Audrey Hussey; and two brothers, Thomas Hussey and James Hussey. Survivors include her husband of 49 years, Joseph E. Desrosiers; a daughter, Dawn Onalfo and husband Len Ferrier of Brentwood, Calif.; three grandsons, James Hernandez, Angelo Joseph Onalfo, and Michael Onalfo; nine great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Richard Hussey of Reno, Nev., and Harry Hussey of Georgia. She was born in Great Barrington, Mass., on April 6, 1957, daughter of Nelva McLaughlin Linkovich Cronin and the late Stanley W. Linkovich. She attended schools in Sandisfield and was a 1975 graduate of Monument Mountain Regional High School. She was a group leader at Kamatics Corp, Bloomfield, Conn. She enjoyed gardening, cats, working and designing her landscape. Besides her mother Nelva Linkovich Cronin of Sandisfield, she leaves one brother, Stanley J. and wife Kathy of Lyndonville, Vt.; two aunts, Arlene Finkle and Helen Kokoszka; one uncle, Walter Linkovich; two nieces, Danielle Stoveland and Allison Linkovich; and one nephew, William Linkovich; and many cousins. Besides her father, Teresa was predeceased by one sister, Larinda Stoveland. A funeral service for Teresa Linkovich, who died Dec. 7, will be held Saturday, Dec. 11 at 1 p.m. at the Birches-Roy Funeral Home with the Rev. Bruce N. Teague officiating. 84, died at The Pines Rehab and Health Center in Lyndon, Vt., Dec. 9, 2010. She was born in Wilmington, Vt., on May 20, 1926, and was the daughter of Peter and Karen (Gjedlvoldsen) Wimmelmenn. She married Earl D. Stetson on March 27, 1960. Earl predeceased her on Nov. 1, 2001. She was a nurse at Brightlook Hospital and a substitute teacher for area schools. Lydia was a member of VFW Post 793. She loved to snowmobile and ride the Harley with Earl, and their dog named Misty, who was secured to the backs of both the Harley and snowmobile. She also enjoyed the camp on Maidstone Lake and her winters in Florida. Lydia was very crafty and made lots of different crafts. Her green thumb made her garden the envy of all who saw it. She is survived by two nieces, her caregivers Robert and Jeannette Farmer, and many friends. , longtime resident of Lyndonville, died peacefully Wednesday morning, Dec. 8, 2010, at the age of 102, at the home of his caregiver, Deborah Baldwin, in St. Johnsbury. He was born Aug. 10, 1908, in St. Johnsbury, the last surviving child of Perley and Maude (Smith) Russell. Raymond was a second-generation centenarian, as his father lived to 103. He was raised in St. Johnsbury and attended St. Johnsbury Trade School. On Aug. 17, 1930, he married Evelyn Forsyth. From 1940 to 1968, Raymond operated his own business, Russell's Men Shop, located in Lyndonville, alongside his younger brother Hazen, who owned Russell's Drug Store. He was a sergeant in the U.S. Army in Europe with the 277th Engineer Combat Battalion during World War II. Raymond was a member of many area organizations, including a charter member of Lyndonville Rotary Club in 1951, the Lyndon Outing Club, the Masonic Crescent Lodge 66 of Lyndonville, the Lyndon Area Chamber of Commerce, the VFW Post 10038 of Lyndonville, and a two-time commander of the American Legion Post 30 of Lyndon. He was a long-standing member of the Lyndonville First Congregational Church and the Westmore Congregational Church at Willoughby Lake, serving as lay minister and deacon at both churches. He was one of the Christmas crèche builders, along with his brothers Hazen and Reg, and Paul Aubin and Russ Griswold, that was on display in Lyndonville for many years during the Christmas season. An avid winter sports enthusiast, Raymond enjoyed skiing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, hunting, and was a pilot. He and his wife built a cottage on Willoughby Lake in 1934 that they owned for fifty years, and enjoyed many canoe rides at sunset. In his later years he and his wife Evelyn enjoyed traveling. They were married an extraordinary 75 years before she predeceased him in 2005. He was also predeceased by his five siblings, Hazen Russell, Reginald Russell, Dorothy Dawson, Jeannette Ripley, and Marion Sparrow. , 84, passed away Sunday, Dec. 5, 2010, in Ft. Pierce, Fla. She was born Oct. 19, 1926, to Homer and Mary (Dineen) Gravel in Springfield, Mass. She graduated from Lady of the Elms Academy and from Fitchburg State Teachers College. She married Robert Kelley on Sept. 25, 1948. Together they raised eight children and resided in Longmeadow, Mass., for 38 years. She enjoyed art and astrology, and loved to sing and read. Robert passed away on Jan. 28, 1990. Lee married Martin Foley on Aug. 25, 1992, and he died in December 2002. She had lived in Port St. Lucie, Fla., for the past 18 years, coming back to New England for summers and spending time with her daughters in Massachusetts, Connecticut and Waterford, Vt. She is survived by her sister Bernadine Clark of Southwick Mass.; her eight children and their spouses, Robert Kelley and wife Karen of Northfield, N.H., Mary Bradley and husband Bob of Westfield, Mass., Kathy Bainbridge of Vernon, Conn., Laurie Chaloux and husband Maurice of Waterford, Vt., Nancy Carley and husband Patrick of Westfield, Mass., Carol Facey and husband Scott of Springfield, Mass., William Kelley of Kennebunkport, Maine, and Sherry O'Connell and husband james of Longmeadow, Mass.; 14 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; four nephews and two nieces. , of Summer Street in St. Johnsbury, passed away Friday, Dec. 10, 2010, at NVRH surrounded by family and friends. She was 89. Ella was born Ella Joslin in Winchendon, Mass., one of six children born to Charles and Elsie (Flint) Joslin. In her younger years she came to be known by the nickname of "Jos." Her husband, Nash, died 44 years ago in April 1966. Two sisters and three brothers-in-law also predeceased her: Ruth and Arthur Pilotte, Joyce Johonnett, Luther "Bob" Copp, and Henry Chin. Ella maintained a passionate dedication throughout her nursing career. After graduating from Brightlook School of Nursing in 1946, Ella joined the staff of Brightlook Hospital and eventually became Director of Nursing for 10 years. She served 15 years as a nursing student instructor for Fanny Allen School of Practical Nursing at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital. In 2001 Ella received a prestigious award recognizing the volume of volunteer work done over the years at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital (which came to be part of the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical system). That award was given by the New Hampshire Association of Hospital Auxiliaries recognizing Ella as Volunteer of the Year. It was truly the culmination of her years spent serving as nurse, director of nursing, nursing instructor, and volunteer. The last position she volunteered for at NVRH was in the radiology/mammography department, where she assisted patients while she herself was forced to use her cane. Ella was a longtime fixture at the St. Johnsbury Chamber of Commerce information booth on Main Street and at the Red Cross blood drives. She volunteered for many a task for St. John the Evangelist Church, worked especially hard on the wreaths for the annual Christmas bazaar, and served as a Eucharistic minister. She also served on the board of directors at Caledonia Home Health. The last few years Ella fiercely wanted to be at home, and was able to do just that because Carol Ann was there to be with her. Her family and neighbors witnessed Carol's dedication to her mother. She is survived by two children: son Alan Michael Ziter and wife Winnie of Germantown, Md., and her daughter Carol Ann Ziter of St. Johnsbury with whom she made her home; one grandson: The Rev. Jason Ziter and wife Michelle of Essex Junction; two great-grandsons: Adam Michael Ziter and Nicholas James Ziter; Winnie's two sons: older son Matthew Bryant, his wife Brianna and their two daughters Raven and Evangeline, and her younger son James Bryant and his son Colin. Also surviving is her brother: Charles C. Joslin and his wife Jean of Winchendon, Mass., two sisters: Janet Chin of Burlington, Mass., and Esther Copp of New Smyrna Beach, Fla.; brother-in-law Paul Johonnett of Bedford Center, Mass.; nieces and nephews. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Wed., Dec. 15, at 11 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church. Burial will be at a later date at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. , 73, of Danville, passed away Saturday, Dec. 11, 2010, at DHMC as the result of injuries sustained in a Nov. 20 auto accident. She was born Dec. 5, 1937, in Danville, the daughter of Harold and Edna (McCosco) Kittredge. Her husband, Wilfred Bell, passed away Dec. 18, 1997. Primarily a homemaker, Myrtle had worked at Cabot Creamery and at the Creamery Restaurant. She is survived by six children, Lynda Spinner and husband Donald of North Concord, Virginia Bell and Homer Buick of Peacham, Robert Bell and wife Becky of Walden, Ronald Bell and wife Debra of St. Johnsbury, Donna Racine and husband Robert of Danville, Stephen Bell and wife Lynn of St. Johnsbury; 29 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren; brother Calvin Kittredge; two sisters, Shirley Maynard and Floella Toussaint; nieces and nephews. Two of her brothers passed away, Dwayne and Melvin Kittredge. Services will be held this Saturday at 2 p.m. at the West Danville United Methodist Church with Jane Larrabee officiating the service. There will be no visiting hours.

, of Danville, died suddenly Dec. 6, 2010, at her winter residence in Redington Shores, Fla., at the age of 87. She was predeceased by her parents Ralph and Carrie (Leete) Sherry, and by her two husbands, Charles Ellery "Cy" Palmer and Ray Lawrence. Beaulah was a longtime and active member of Danville Congregational Church. She looked forward to her meetings with the Seed and Weed Club. She and Cy were members of the St. Johnsbury Country Club. She was instrumental in helping her son Peter in his horse business in Kentucky. She is survived by her two sons, Charles L. Palmer of Danville and Peter S. Palmer and wife Kelley of Prospect, Ky.; granddaughter Jamie Palmer-Keating and husband Steven of Belmont, Mass.; granddaughters Leslie and Parker Palmer of Kentucky; Ray's son Charlie Lawrence and wife Sally of Waterford and their sons Tom and Fred; sister-in-law Caroline Sherry of Danville and her daughter Betty Lou Sherry of Atlanta, Ga. of Danville, Vt., died Sunday, Dec. 12, 2010, after a short stay at St. Johnsbury Health and Rehab Center, of complications from a Nov. 21 fall. Lucia was born May 20, 1921, in St. Johnsbury, the third of four children to Frederick G. and Lucia (Day) Johnson. She attended Summer Street School and graduated from St. Johnsbury Academy, Class of 1939. Continuing her education, she graduated from the medical secretarial course at Becker Business College in Worcester, Mass., in 1941, after which she was employed in medical records at Springfield Hospital in Springfield, Mass. On Jan. 8, 1944, she married Cpl. William H. Pearl in a ceremony at South Congregational Church. They were married for 66 years. Her employment included working for Arthur G. Sprague and Fabian S. Reed in the insurance business; several years for attorney John A. Swainbank; and in the St. Johnsbury town clerk's office; as well as keeping the books for the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery and Crematory. While in high school, she received the Golden Eaglet in Girl Scouts and also the DAR Good Citizen Award. She was a member of South Congregational Church until her marriage in 1944, when she became a member of the North Congregational Church of which she was still a member at the time of her death. On Jan. 24, 1994, she became a Fairbanks Museum Fellow, was a former member of the St. Johnsbury Women's Club, a former volunteer at the Fairbanks Museum, and a member of a weekly Wednesday quilting group, which she thoroughly enjoyed. Survivors include daughters Margaret "Peggy" Pearl of East Ryegate and Elizabeth Pearl Sargent and husband Robert of Danville; daughter-in-law Sheri Sargent Pearl of Danville; sister Alice Johnson Blair of Danville; grandchildren Thomas and Nicholas Daniels, Carrie Sargent, Isaac and Henry Pearl; great-grandchildren Axel Pearl and Molly Daniels; nieces and nephews. Lucia was predeceased by her husband, William, on April 28, 2010; two sons, Thomas, on May 4, 1982, and John, on Feb. 12, 2009; and two brothers Gilbert Johnson in 1990 and Paul Johnson in 2005. , 90, of Osage City, Kan., passed away Friday, Dec. 10, 2010. He was born Aug. 13, 1920, in Concord, Vt. He served in the United States Army during World War II and was a member of the American Legion in Osage City. He volunteered his time at the Osage Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He played Santa Claus at Christmastime in Osage City, baked countless loaves of banana bread for Osage City and Lyndon. Mr. Sleep was married to Irene Tibbits on Nov. 15, 1946. She passed away on Feb. 10, 2000. Survivors include his children, Larry Consentino in California, Gary Sleep and wife Brenda, Jim Sleep and wife Deloris, Mike Sleep and wife Diane, Bob Sleep and wife Kelly, and Lemuel Sleep III and daughter Amy Nicole, all of Topeka, Kan., Sherry Brown and husband Don, and Sue Arbuthnot and husband Bruce of Topeka, Flori Moore and husband Larry, and Deb Davidson and husband David in Colorado, and Barb Bradley and husband Scooter in Osage City; 38 grandchildren; 76 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his two sisters and brother. Cremation is planned. A graveside memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 14, at West Lawn Memorial Gardens. His wife, Marion (Hall) Corbeil, predeceased him Jan. 13, 2004. He was also predeceased by their daughter, Carol Corbeil, in 1965, and a grandson, Benjamin Culver, in 1988. Maurice attended Lyndon Institute and left his senior year to join the Navy during World War II. He was an insurance agent with Nationwide Insurance. He is survived by three children, Sheila Amadon and husband Merlin of East St. Johnsbury, Maurine Culver and husband Van of St. Johnsbury, and Paul M. Corbeil and wife Donna of St. Johnsbury; eight grandchildren, Anne and Peter Amadon, Nicholas, Caitlin and Elizabeth Culver, Adam, Danielle and Richard Corbeil; five great-grandchildren, Ava Anna and Trent, Grant and Adelaide. The family will observe their services privately. He will be buried with military honors at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in May. , of Granville, Mass., passed away Dec. 14, 2010, at St. Francis Hospital. She was born in New Britain, Conn., on Dec. 31, 1941, and moved to Lyndonville, Vt., at the age of 4. She is survived by her beloved husband Roger A. Hinkel of Granville, Mass. She was predeceased by her parents, Harland G. and Lillian (Chadsey) Thompson of Sheffield, Vt., and her stepson Timothy Hinkel of Somers. She graduated from Lyndon Institute in 1960 and then went on to work for United Airlines reservations at Bradley International Airport in Windsor Locks, Conn. She also worked at Kaman Aircraft in Bloomfield, making the company's air reservations. Carol managed three travel agencies in Connecticut, including Gardner Travel Agency of Suffield, Turtle Travel Agency of East Granby, and McKenna Travel Agency of Windsor Locks. She did a lot of traveling in the United States, the Caribbean, Europe and even South Korea. She then went to work for Hamilton Standard in Windsor Locks for 20 years as an executive secretary. She enjoyed cross-country skiing, gardening, reading and motorcycle riding with her husband. Besides her husband, Roger, she is survived by her brother Harland W. Thompson and wife Eileen of Holbrook, N.Y.; and her sister Joan Johnson and husband Glenn of Lyndonville, Vt.; along with three nephews and one niece; her stepson Scott Hinkel and wife Stephanie; her stepdaughters Paula Morin, Robin Taylor and Cheryl Schile; 18 grandchildren; five great-grandsons; a special daughter-in-law Angie Hinkel; and a cousin Danice Sargent who was like a sister to her; plus many special relatives and wonderful friends like "The Lunch Bunch." Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family on Friday, Dec. 17, 2010, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Road, Enfield, Conn. of St. Johnsbury passed away Monday, Dec. 13, 2010, at his Colonial Apartment home. He was born in Scotstown, Quebec, Aug. 8, 1919, the son of Daniel and Sarah (Fleming) MacIver. He was predeceased by his wife, Jacqueline (Wilkie), in 1998, and by two brothers, Ralph and John, and a sister, Mildred MacIver Robbins. Bill was a decorated Army veteran of World War II. He received the Purple Heart and combat infantry badge. Forty years after the war ended, Bill received the bronze star from U.S. Sen. Patrick Leahy. However, in spite of the heroism he demonstrated on New Georgia Island, his family remembers Bill as being very humble about his service to his country. Before he went into the service, he worked for Railroad Express. After he got out, he worked until retirement at Fairbanks Morse as an assembler. Whenever the local veteran's organizations were called upon to fulfill the duties of military honors, Bill could always be counted upon to be part of the firing squad. His patriotism was evident to all who knew him. He was a life member and past commander of the VFW Post 793, and was a member of both the American Legion Post 58 and the Disabled American Veterans Post 6. He is survived by Jackie's two sons, Carroll Rousseau and wife Anita of Tennessee, Charles "Chuck" Rousseau and wife Diane of Florida. He was predeceased by Jackie's daughter Sandra Turner of St. Johnsbury in 2009; seven grandchildren and their families. He is also survived by three nieces, Ann MacIver of St. Johnsbury, Nina Andry of New Market, N.H., and Susan Palmieri of Lyndonville. There will be no services at this time. Military honors will be bestowed at his graveside service, scheduled for Thursday, May 19 at 11 a.m. at \Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Mr. John Sleeper will officiate at that service. , 78, of Hardwick and formerly of Cabot, died Dec. 14, 2010, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington, Vt. He was born Feb. 7, 1932, in Hyde Park, the son of the late Fred E. and Lottie (LaPlante) Churchill. He attended Cabot public schools. He entered the U.S. Army on Aug. 19, 1952, in Manchester, N.H., serving his country in Korea. Sgt. Churchill was honorably discharged on Aug. 18, 1955. On Sept. 26, 1954, he married Dorothy Jean Wellman in Cabot, where they lived most of their married life. She died Aug. 6, 1998. He moved to Hardwick in 2007. In his earlier years he worked on the family dairy farm. He was later employed in the concrete business. He retired from his full-time job in the mid 1990s and for more than 10 years he worked part time for the Cabot Cemetery Association. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, yard sales, country music, family gatherings and baking pies. Survivors include a daughter, Karen Dodge and husband Warren of Hardwick; three sons, Brian Churchill and wife Sandra of Barre, Jason Churchill and wife Stephanie of St. Johnsbury, and James Churchill and companion Cristie Arguin of Northfield; seven grandchildren, Trulie McAllister and Barry Cadorette, both of Hardwick, Amanda Churchill of South Burlington, Amy Churchill of Berlin, Kristy Durand of Cabot, Amanda Durand and Kayla Churchill, both of Marshfield; five great-grandchildren, Emma Durand of Cabot, Christopher Bagley, Hunter, Hanna and Shannon McAllister all of Hardwick; two sisters, Martha Laber of Nashua, N.H., and Mavine Huntington of Washington, Vt.; several nieces, nephews and cousins. , 80, of Lyndonville, died peacefully Tuesday afternoon Dec. 14, 2010, at The Pines Rehabilitation and Health Center in Lyndon. She was born Aug. 10, 1930, in Greenfield, Mass., the daughter of Frederick and Margery (Robinson) Passut. She was schooled in St. Johnsbury and attended St. Johnsbury Academy. On Sept. 20, 1947, she married Benny Bean. He predeceased her exactly one year to the day, on Dec. 14, 2009. They had been married for 62 years. Margery had been a member of the St. Johnsbury and the Lyndonville women's clubs. She had been a volunteer at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital and the Fairbanks Museum, both of St. Johnsbury. She had worked in the office of Vermont Tap and Die Co. in Lyndonville for several years. Part-time jobs helped keep her busy: cooking at Comstocks Restaurant in St. Johnsbury, a cashier at First National Grocery store in Lyndonville, and other places during her life. Cooking and baking for her family, reading, writing, working in her flower gardens, bingo and family gatherings brought her much pleasure. She also loved her feline companions throughout the years. Margery is remembered as a kind, gentle, selfless and compassionate person who will be missed by those who knew and loved her. Survivors include her four children, Sharon Dolloff and husband Dave of Lyndonville, Stephen Bean and wife Liz of Leesburg, Fla., David Bean and wife Janet of Leesburg, and Jeffrey Bean and wife Diane of East Burke; 11 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; her brother Robert Passut and wife Bonita of Jenson Beach, Fla.; her in-laws, Calvin Bean of Utah, Richard Bean of St. Johnsbury, Elizabeth Pearsons of Massachusetts, Marjorie Bean of Massachusetts and Arnold Garand of Waterford; numerous nieces and nephews, including Brent Passut; and a special family friend, Nate Winsor with whom Margery was quite close. Funeral services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. Spring burial will be in Woodmont Cemetery in East Burke. , formerly of Greenbank Hollow Road, Danville, died Dec. 16, 2010, at home in Sioux Falls, S.D. He was born Dec. 17, 1927, in Salt Lake City and educated through high school in that city. On graduation from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1949, he entered the U.S. Air Force and later completed a master's degree in nuclear engineering at North Carolina State University. Although an Air Force command pilot, most of his 20 years in the Air Force was spent in research and development positions in the nuclear energy field -- both weapons and non-weapons applications. His combat flying experience came in Vietnam and Thailand in the late 1960s. In his last position before retirement, he served as operations officer of the Weapons Effect Test Division of the Defense Atomic Support Agency as it was then known. He retired as a lieutenant colonel. Awards include The Distinguished Flying Cross, The Air Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, The Presidential Unit Citation and The Department of Defense Commendation Medal. Subsequent to military retirement, he and his family moved to Danville where he engaged in various business interests centered on venture capital start-ups, and he served on the board of directors of the ISIS Companies of Stamford, Conn. The last four years were spent in Sioux Falls, S.D. He is survived by Josephine "Dodie," his wife of 59 years; two sons, Mark and wife Leslie of Massachusetts, and Craig and wife Suzannah of Sioux Falls; three granddaughters, Elizabeth and husband Hans, Sarah and husband Kyle, and Louise; and one great-grandson, Tyler. Interment will be at the National Cemetery in Sturgis, S.D. A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family. Donations in his memory may be made to the charity of your choice.

of Walden died tragically in a car accident Dec. 15. Carson was born June 17, 2003, son of Mark and Nicole Ling Tilden. He was in the second grade at Walden Elementary School, and previously at Barre City. He loved all types of sports and working with his Dad on any kind of project. Everywhere he went, he brought spunk, curiosity and a spirit of mischief. His love of learning and positive attitude touched everyone whom he came in contact with. Even though his time was too short, we will always feel the love he filled us with. Carson is survived by his parents; siblings Jay, Sadie, Jamie and McKinley; grandparents Dexter and Beth Tilden of Post Mills, Arthur and Sharon Ling of Hardwick and Deborah Finnegan-Ling of Greensboro; several aunts, uncles and cousins; and special family friends the Bassett and Baker family. It's comforting to know he was welcomed into heaven by familiar family members who preceded him in death. The family will receive friends Tuesday, Dec. 21 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Walden Elementary School. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday 11 a.m. at St. Augustine Church, Montpelier. of Glastonbury, Conn., passed away peacefully Dec. 15, 2010. She is predeceased by husband, Douglas. Norma is known by her love of life and dedication to family and church. She found great joy in faithful family connections, seeing good in all people, cooking and baking for others. She loved children and served as Sunday School teacher for many years. She blessed so many with her unselfish love, lighting up the room with her smile and making all present feel loved and welcome, whether they were strangers or well known. She was known for years as "the cake lady," making beautiful cakes with her secret recipe frosting for all occasions, including weddings. She enjoyed riding across the country with her husband by motorcycle in their later years as well as hosting guests in their home in Vermont. Norma loved living at Rockhaven in most recent years where friends and neighbors were like family. She is survived by her children, Susan DeCou and husband Mahlon of Easton, Pa., Doug Pagett and wife Kate of West Hartford, Conn., Mary Jane Sullivan and husband William, of West Hartford/Bloomfield, Conn., Barbara Hendrickson and husband David, of Red Hook, N.Y., Eddie Pagett and wife Carmen, of Rocklin, Calif; 12 grandchildren; one great-grandchild. , 73, of Colebrook, N.H., passed away Thursday afternoon, Dec. 16, 2010, at Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital in Colebrook, N.H., surrounded by her loving husband and friends, and after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in West Baldwin, Maine, on June 6, 1937, a daughter to the late Percy and Olive (Stanton) Burnell. Carolyn was a graduate of the Potter Academy in Sebago, Maine. Music and family were central to Carolyn's life, and she will be remembered as one of the area's most beloved musicians. As the anchor to the musical group known far and wide as "Carolyn & Friends," she and her husband, Brad, along with many other local musicians, provided musical entertainment and enrichment to local events and charities for many years. Her other interests included gardening, writing poetry and spending time with her family. Carolyn was a member of the Monadnock Congregational Church, and the Mohawk and West Baldwin granges for more than 50 years, and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She will be dearly missed by her family and her extended family of countless friends and neighbors. She leaves behind her loving husband of 54 years, Bradford Brooks of Colebrook, N.H.; three sons, Clinton Brooks and wife Eldonna of Colebrook, Stanton Brooks of Peaks Island, Maine, and Leland Brooks and wife Ann of Columbia Falls, Mont.; five grandchildren, Matthew Brooks, Aaron Brooks, Asenath Brooks, Mitchell Brooks and Ada Brooks; two great-grandchildren, Anja and Kylie Brooks; a daughter-in-law, Linda Brooks of Portland; and a brother, Robert Burnell of Fryeburg, Maine; as well as several nieces and nephews. , 84, a resident of Danville for the past 38 years, passed away Saturday evening. He joins his wife Eleanor who passed away this past April and who he dearly missed. , Jr., of Lost River Road in North Woodstock, N.H., died Friday morning, Dec. 17, 2010 at Speare Memorial Hospital in Plymouth, N.H., following a courageous 5 year battle with cancer. He was 45. Born on Aug. 28, 1965 in St. Johnsbury, Vt., he was the son of Gene A. and Margaret (Hatch) Smith, Sr. A lifelong resident of North Woodstock, he was a 1984 graduate of Lin-Wood High School. On March 2, 1985, he married Elisa Ann Wood. Gene was a graduate of the New England Fuel Institute where he learned oil burner maintenance and repair and then worked in the family oil and auto repair business for 10 years. From 1990 to 2003, he worked at Loon Mountain as manager of vehicles and equipment maintenance. In 2003, he purchased NAPA Auto Parts in North Woodstock, which he owned and operated for three years until the onset of his illness. He sold the business and it continues to operate today. Following his lifelong passion for automobiles, he was an avid stock car racer and won two championships at White Mountain Motor Sports Park and at Norway Pines in Rumney. He also competed in over 100 demolition derbies. Family and community were very important to Gene. The family shares the special number "14." He donated countless time and energy to the Kanc Recreation Ski area, was a member of the White Mountain Snowmobile Club, and was an avid hunter. His mother Margaret (Hatch) Roy predeceased him. He leaves his loving wife of 25 years Elisa A. (Wood) Smith; a son Adam T. Smith, a daughter Laurian E. Smith, and a granddaughter Isabell Smith, all of North Woodstock, N.H.; his father Gene A. Smith, Sr., and his wife Linda of Lincoln, N.H.; a brother Russell E. Smith and his wife Cherie of Springfield, Tenn.; a sister Kendra M. Smith of Lincoln, N.H.; Grandmother Laurian Phettiplace of North Haverhill, N.H.; father- in-law Geoff S. of Victory passed away Sunday, Dec. 19, 2010, at the age of 86. He was born in Cambridge, N.Y., on Oct. 13, 1924, to Karl and Naomi (Sheldon) Guibord. On Aug. 5, 1948, he and Barbara Johnson were married. Charlie was a medic in the Navy in both World War II and Korea. During World War II he was on Iwo Jima during the invasion. Charlie worked as a funeral director in Vermont and Florida prior to founding the Charles L. Guibord Funeral Home in Lyndonville in 1973. Active in the community, he was a past member of the Lyndonville Rotary Club and served on various committees at First Congregational Church of Lyndonville. Both a Mason and a Shriner, Charlie belonged to Crescent Lodge 66 and Mt. Sinai Temple 3. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 30 and VFW Post 10038 (life member), and went through the chairs at the Elks Lodge B.P.O.E 1343. He is survived by his wife Jhoni; his children and their families; his brother Karl and wife Lucille; his niece and his nephew. He was predeceased by his brother Wayne. , 83, formerly of East Burke, passed away Dec. 17, 2010, at his home in St. Johnsbury of complications related to lymphoma. Ed was a well-known, often outspoken figure in the Northeast Kingdom and could frequently be overheard expressing his informed opinions on a wide range of social and political issues around Burke or Lyndonville. The only child of Leon G. Sawyer and Ethel D. Topping, Ed was born on July 29, 1927, in Southampton, N.Y., and raised in Rockville Centre, N.Y. He attended South Side High School, graduating in June 1945, and enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, serving from July 1945 to October 1946, primarily in Beijing, China, and receiving an honorable discharge at the rank of corporal. He often said that witnessing repression and upheaval in wartime China contributed to his liberal political views. Ed had been admitted to Princeton University prior to enlisting and graduated in June 1950 but as a member of the Class of 1949. He immediately began a career in advertising and marketing at Proctor & Gamble in Cincinnati and subsequently returned to New York to work for General Foods. His first marriage to Marilyn Zimmerman ended in divorce, and their daughter, Donna Deane (Sawyer) Scala sadly pre-deceased Ed, passing away on July 17, 2010, after a valiant, year-long struggle with lung cancer. Disillusioned with the corporate "rat race," as he termed it, Ed decided to start what he envisioned as a more self-sufficient and independent life in northeastern Vermont, where he had established relationships with wood products suppliers for his marketing promotions. In the early 1960s he left his family in Connecticut and settled first in Lyndonville and then in East Haven with his new partner, Irene (French) Davis. In 1965 they purchased the decommissioned North Concord Air Force Station on the summit of East Mountain in East Haven when it was auctioned by the federal government. Here, 7 miles from the nearest neighbor, Ed hoped to create the idyllic, self-sufficient, back-to-nature lifestyle he had dreamed of on the commuter train into New York City. However, the Radar Base, with its miles of paved access road and 100-foot-tall steel towers was a magnet for the curious and the malicious alike. Within a few years vandalism, thievery and the constant threat of intrusion and violence forced them to leave. Ed and Irene sold the property over a decade ago. Meanwhile, Ed had started a woodworking business and produced premiums for national marketing campaigns, such as an old-fashioned coffee grinder for Maxwell House. This evolved into the design and manufacture of high-quality wooden toys, a business in which Irene was very much an equal partner and laborer. Eventually known as the Olde Tyme Toy Co., Ed and Irene's business was successful, if not remunerative. By Ed's estimate, they made nearly 200,000 of their signature wooden rocking horses, which they sold across New England, the Mid-Atlantic and beyond. In difficult times it was a great solace to them both that had produced something that had given so many children hours of joy. Irene pre-deceased Ed in November 2005 after a brief but brave battle with breast cancer. Ed is survived by his son, Sean E. Sawyer, of New York, N.Y.; his grandsons Emerson Bowstead of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Peter Scala, of New York, N.Y.; and his granddaughter, Samantha (Scala) Burley; great-grandson Peter Burley, of Burke, Va. He had many friends, perhaps none more tested and enduring than Doreen and Chip Yerkes of East Burke. There will be no funeral services, but a memorial will be held in the future. , 85, Lunenburg, passed away Tuesday morning Dec. 21, 2010, at Morrison Nursing Home in Whitefield. Mrs. Drown Was born in Lyndonville, Vt., Sept. 15, 1925, a daughter of Andrew and Rosetta (Beck) Robinson. Emma was raised in Lyndon and resided there most of her life. She married Harley L. Drown on May 6, 1947. They moved to the Gilman and Lunenburg area in the 1960s. She worked as a certified nursing assistant at Kent Nursing Home in Lancaster and as a central supply technician at Littleton Hospital. She enjoyed crocheting and flower gardening. Family members include a son, Charles H. Drown and wife Jennifer of Kentucky; a daughter, Elaine D. Horsler and husband Owen of Lunenburg; three sisters, Evelyn Campbell of Passumpsic, Vt., Thelma Nutting of Passumpsic, and Doris Leach of Wheelock, Vt., five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and her daughter in-law Carol Robinson of Passumpsic. She was predeceased by her husband Harley in 1992; a son, Timothy F. Drown; an infant daughter Christine; two brothers, Earl E. died unexpectedly at his home, on the evening of Dec. 20, 2010, at the age of 63. Harry was born on Jan. 13, 1947, in Arlington, Va., to Herman and Carol (Treyz) Southworth, the third of four brothers. Much of his childhood was spent in State College, Pa., as an avid Boy Scout, singer and wrestler. He graduated from Franklin & Marshall College in 1968, earning a bachelor's degree in geology. In 1969 he married Cynthia (Cid) Jeffery, and served in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1969 to 1971. Harry and Cid started their family in State College, Pa., where their two children, Dana and Georgia, were born, and where Harry worked and continued his studies at Penn State University. In 1977, they moved to Lancaster, N.H., where Harry joined his brother Tom in the operation of the historic Garland Mill, which has evolved into a multi-generational family business, Garland Mill Timberframes. He enthusiastically shared his time, good cheer and talents, whether on stage with the Colonel Town Players, singing with the Jefferson Chorus and other groups, playing brass in the summer town and community bands, helping to organize the expansion of the Lancaster Town Library, or serving on numerous local committees and boards. Harrison Southworth is survived by his wife of 41 years, Cid Southworth; his son Dana Southworth and wife Izabela and their two sons, David and Robert; his daughter Georgia Southworth and husband Wesley Hoffman and their two sons, Felix and Casper; his three brothers, Ed, Tom and Doug Southworth, and their extended families. Harry's inherent joy and positive energy were cherished by his family and his friends. His patience and kindness have been a beacon for the large surrounding community. , 77, longtime St. Johnsbury area nurse, passed away peacefully at her Mt. Pleasant home Thursday, Dec. 23, 2010 surrounded by family. She was born in Montpelier, Vermont on Feb. 20, 1933, the daughter of Lyle and Mary (Sullivan) Wilder. Her husband Wendall passed away Nov. 25, 2004. Norma obtained her nursing degree from Mary Hitchcock and was both valedictorian and president of her class. She began her nursing career at the old St. Johnsbury Hospital and went to the new Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital where she worked in both the emergency department and operating room. She nursed at The Pines for nine years, retiring in 2003 as charge nurse. While working full time at NVRH, Norma was also staff nurse at the old correctional center on Cherry St. Horses were Norma's great love. Throughout the years, Norma raised and showed many Morgan horses. She was perhaps happiest when showing her Morgan stallion, Major, in parade class, and grand-marshaling at the Danville Fair parade. She sponsored youth activities through her judging at horseshows and fairs. She is survived by three children: Sharon Parent and husband Paul of Barrington N.H. and Johnson VT; Lyle Gadapee and wife Susan of St. Johnsbury; Ellen Burt and husband Michael of Waterville VT; four step-children: Gregory Boardman of San Francisco CA; Julia St. George and husband Yvan of Vergennes VT; Lucille Adams of Reno NV; Sarah St. George and husband Andre of East Tawas MI; 12 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren; her sister Bernice Wilder of Sturbridge MA; nieces and nephews. She is also survived by Wendall's extended family, and a lifelong friend and sister-in-law Edna Simons of St. Johnsbury. She was predeceased by a sister Kathleen Wilder. Carl was a quiet, family man, always available to lend a hand, offer his knowledge and wisdom, and support those he loved. He was predeceased by both parents, his siblings Robert Elliott, Ernest Marsh, Hazel Defosie, Clinton Marsh, George Marsh, and Leslie Marsh. , 75, of Lyndon Center, died Friday evening Dec. 24, 2010, at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital in St. Johnsbury. She was born June 14, 1935, in Newark, Vt., the daughter of Wilman and Sylvia (Murray) Amadon. Zelda was married to Clarence Allard who predeceased her in 1988. They had lived in Connecticut for years. She had worked at Burger King in New Britain for 30 years. In 2004 she moved back to Vermont to be near her family. In her free time she made ceramics, went bowling, and shot competition archery in Connecticut. She was an avid reader. While in Vermont, Zelda knitted many pairs of mittens for the Santa Fund and enjoyed spending time at the Riverside Life Enrichment Center in Lyndon. She was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church. Survivors include two sisters, Hildegarde Brown of Lyndon, and Wilma Zetlemoyer of Pennsylvania; a brother, Theodore Amadon of East Thetford, Vt., and Florida; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband; two sisters, Hazel Goodwin and Frances Leonard; and two brothers, Ronald and Elbridge Amadon. , 84, a resident of Danville, Vt., for the past 38 years, passed away Dec. 18, 2010. He joins his parents and siblings and his beloved wife Eleanor, who passed away this past April. John and Eleanor met at Portsmouth Priory (now called Portsmouth Abbey) in Rhode Island where his father was a professor and John a student. John was living in the Priory monastery at the time, working on the farm and considering life as a monk, when he met Ellie. They married in 1948 after John served two years in the army stationed in Korea as company bugler. John and Ellie moved to Benson, Vt., where he was a farmhand for three years, before receiving his Master's Degree in Agronomy from the University of Massachusetts. John then joined the USAID Program in Thailand and Laos as Agricultural Advisor, and later joined the Peace Corps staff in Thailand. He worked and lived with his family in Thailand and briefly in Laos for over 10 years. Upon his return to the States, John worked for the U.S. Department of Commerce Bureau of Indian Affairs in Washington, D.C., as manager of the American Indian Small Economic Development Program. During this wartime period in Vietnam, he actively supported peace and fellowship. In 1972, wanting to return to a simpler life, John moved with his family back to Vermont. They settled in Danville where he enjoyed a large garden, planting numerous fruit trees, raising goats for milk and cheese and burning wood for heat. He was dedicated to energy conservation and living off the land. John was director of the Regional Economic Organization in Northern Vermont and then manager of the Vermont State Home Energy Program. Afterward, he worked in Danville as a school bus driver and town appraiser. He was a dedicated member of the Danville Queen of Peace Church serving on the church council and as a Eucharistic minister. John was the last living child of the late Francis Day White and Nathalie Wood White. John's siblings were Nathalie White Coleman, Audrey White, Francis White and Ronald White. He is survived by his children, John White of Derby Line, Vt., and his wife Joan and son Brandon; Robert White of Hawaii, his wife Hilary and his sons John Francis White of Danville and Michael White; and Michelle White-Camba of France and her husband Remy and their sons Gael and Dimitri. John is also survived by his niece Claire Coleman Chen, his nephew Tony Coleman and by many cousins for whom he held great affection. In contemplating his life, John once wrote that he spent a lifetime of planting and growing things, adhering to his motto, which was always "do more with less." It was John's deep religious faith that influenced his daily life, guiding him in a life of simplicity, service and kindness to others, and giving him hope for the future. A funeral mass, followed by a reception, will be held this Thursday, Dec. 30, at 11 a.m. at the Queen of Peace Church in Danville. John's family invites his friends, fellow church members and members of the community to attend. His ashes will be buried next summer at the monk's cemetery of the Portsmouth Abbey alongside his parents, his brother Ronald and his wife Eleanor. , 93, of Greensboro, Vt., died Thursday Dec. 23, 2010, at the Maple Lane Nursing Home in Barton, with her loving family at her bedside. She was born Sept. 12, 1917, in Concord, Vt., the daughter of the late George and Alice (Streeter) Damon. She graduated from Danville High School in the class of 1935. She continued her education at Brightlook Nursing School in St. Johnsbury, graduating in the class of 1938. On Feb. 13, 1943 she married Lester Alfred Collier in Greensboro. He died in 1982. She was a Registered Nurse working in several area hospitals including: Greensboro Hospital, Brightlook Hospital, Hardwick Hospital and Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital in St. Johnsbury. She drove school bus for the Town of Greensboro for 10 years and in 1997 she retired from the Greensboro Nursing Home. Georgia was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's witnesses in Hardwick. She enjoyed gardening and helping people. , 66, of Glen Falls, N.Y., passed away peacefully Wednesday morning, Dec. 22, 2010, at his home surrounded by his loving family and friends. In 1971 Bill received his first appointment as a pastor in the United Methodist Church when he served the Lyndonville, Vt. UMC, followed by the Winooski, Vt. UMC and First UMC, Burlington, Vt. as Associate Pastor, and the Rutland UMC, Rutland, Vt. In 1992 he moved from Vermont for the first time to serve Christ Church UM, Glens Falls. In 1998 Bishop Susan Murch Morrison appointed Bill as District Superintendent of the Albany District, which was followed by his appointment as Associate Pastor at First UMC in Schenectady, N.Y., until his retirement in 2009.

, 88 of Lunenburg, Vt., died peacefully with his family at his side on Sunday, Dec. 26, 2010, at Country Village Health Center in Lancaster, N.H. Born in Lunenburg to Frank and Agnes (Kenney) Lewis, he was given the nickname "Bud" by his older sisterjk Helen. His grandparents lived with the family on their farm and were a huge influence in his life, especially his grandfather, Charles Lewis. He was educated in the local schools and in 1942 joined the U.S. Army. He was the only son and although he could have been deferred because of his father's ill health, he chose to go and fight for his country. He was a member of the 77th Infantry Division and was in three major campaigns in the pacific during World War II. He fought on Leyte, Guam and Okinawa, where he was wounded in action and received the Purple Heart. Upon his return from war he began his career at The Gilman Paper Mill, which later became Georgia Pacific. He was employed and held a supervisory position during his 44 years until retirement. In 1945 he met the love of his life, Ms. Arlene R. Gunther who later became his wife of 63 years. They had two sons, Kenneth J. Lewis and Thomas F. Lewis. Bud was actively involved in the community and was coach of his sons' Little League and Babe Ruth Baseball teams and manager of the town's baseball team, as well as being a volunteer firefighter. He was custodian of the Catholic Church in Lunenburg and worked on many bazaars to help raise money for the church. Later in his life he was a member of the committee established to erect a monument in the park to recognize all Lunenburg veterans who served in the military. He also organized and ran programs for Veteran's Day and Memorial Day services. Bud enjoyed spending time outdoors. Every spring he dedicated much of his time at the sugarhouse, which he began working at in 1928 at the age of 6 with his father. The sugarhouse was passed on to him after the war and the operation was continued with the family, including his favorite dog, Brownie. In his 80s he was still making his famous maple syrup fudge. In the summer months he took pleasure in planting and tending to his large garden. He is survived by his wife, Arlene (Gunther) Lewis of Lunenburg; his sons Kenneth Lewis of Littleton, N.H., and Thomas Lewis and daughter-in-law Theresa of Lunenburg; his three grandchildren who affectionately called him "Pa," Katherine Lewis of Hampton, N.H., Nancy Bonney of Wilbraham, Mass., and Steven Lewis of Antioch, Tenn.; his niece Barbara Willson of Lunenburg; and nephew Robert Willson of St. Johnsbury, Vt. He was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Agnes Lewis; sisters Helen (Lewis) Willson, Phylis Lewis and brother-in-law Jack Willson. A private Mass will be held for immediate family members only at their convenience. , 87, died peacefully at her home on Witherspoon Road, Ryegate, on Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2010. Arlene was born in Topsham, Vt., Oct. 8, 1923, the daughter of Rolla and Myra (Jones) Barnes. She was a graduate of Groton High School and married Gordon Perkins on Oct. 24, 1941. They purchased and operated the Hall Dairy farm in Ryegate Corner until his death on April 19, 1971. On July 8, 1976, Arlene married Carroll "Tappy" Eastman. They lived in Ryegate, and after retirement they enjoyed traveling throughout the United States. Arlene worked as a teacher's aide at Blue Mountain School in Wells River for many years. She also worked for Gary and Jean Darling in Ryegate, as well as Chip and Carol Harris in North Haverhill taking care of their homes and children. She was an active member and trustee at the Ryegate Corner Presbyterian Church and was a past president of the Presbyterian Women. She also enjoyed serving as a volunteer for the Caledonia Hospice. Arlene received the Blue Mountain Grange Community Service Award and was presented with a lifetime membership to the Ryegate Historical Society. She had been an active leader in 4-H and was a member of the Vermont 251 Club. She always had an open door and "mothered" many over the years. She was predeceased by her first husband, Gordon Perkins on April 19, 1971; two sons, Gordon D. Perkins Jr. and Richard "Ricky" Perkins on Dec. 27, 2005; her second husband, Carroll "Tappy" Eastman on April 5, 2009; a grandson, Jeffrey G. Leonard on March 24, 1999; and four siblings, Clifford Barnes, Alton Barnes, Shirley Welch and Ivis Minshull. She is survived by two daughters, Laura Clark and husband John of Williamstown, Vt., and Linda Leonard and husband Daniel of Ryegate Corner, Vt.; two sons, Gene Perkins and wife Nancy, and Darryl Perkins and wife Dottie, both of Ryegate Corner; three stepdaughters, Ruth Hatch of South Ryegate, Vt., Codie "Gay" Rockwood and husband Tim of Hartland, Vt., and Lois Farley of Nashville, Tenn.; two stepsons, Dean Eastman and wife Pamela of Sutton, Vt., and Robert Eastman and wife Victoria of Port Orchard, Wash.; a sister, Marie Amell of Claremont, N.H.; a brother, George Barnes and wife Laura of Weathersfield, Vt.; a daughter-in-law, Phyllis Perkins of West Burke, Vt.; 17 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins. , 77, longtime St. Johnsbury area nurse, passed away peacefully at her Mt. Pleasant home Thursday, Dec. 23, 2010, surrounded by family. She was born in Montpelier, Vt., on Feb. 20, 1933, the daughter of Lyle and Mary (Sullivan) Wilder. Her husband, Wendall, passed away Nov. 25, 2004. , 77, of Concord, died tragically from injuries sustained in an automobile accident on Dec. 23, 2010. He was born Feb. 1, 1933, in St. Johnsbury, the son of the late Avis Bigelow. He attended St. Johnsbury and Danville public schools. Roland entered the U.S. Army on April 1, 1953, in Manchester, N.H., and served his country in Germany. Cpl. LaBounty was honorably discharged on March 18, 1955, at Camp Kilmer, N.J. He married Glenna Maxine Rathburn. In his earlier years he worked in sawmills in Barnet and Lunenburg. For more than 36 years he delivered milk to homes and grocery stores for Killfasset Farms, Billings and Idlenot Dairy in Passumpsic. He was employed in Arcadia, Fla. for Orange Co. Recently, he drove bus for RCT in St. Johnsbury. He enjoyed the time he spent with his family and traveling. Survivors include his loving wife, Glenna LaBounty of Concord; a son, Stanley LaBounty of Concord; two sisters, Caroline Kittredge and Bonnie Corey, both of Danville; five brothers, Walter Bigelow, Donald Bigelow, David Bigelow, all of Danville, Paul Bigelow of Sanford, N.C., and Robert Bigelow of Passumpsic; nieces, nephews and cousins. A celebration of his life will be held in the spring with a date to be announced. , 75, of Porrell Road, Granby, Vt., died at Littleton Regional Hospital, Saturday morning, Dec. 25, 2010. Mr. Brown was born in Canaan, Vt., on June 9, 1935, the son of George and Hattie (Ellingwood) Brown Sr. Sherwood was raised in Canaan with his six brothers and three sisters. He was a logger for most of his life, which included owning his own business that became a family operation. Sons, son-in-law, nephews, grandson, and good friends were all part of his work life. Sherwood and his wife, Vivian, raised their five children in Granby and watched their 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren be born and raised, which was a great joy for them. Family members include his sons, Robert Brown and wife Laurie of Upton, Maine, Gene Brown of Lyndonville, Jeff Brown and wife Dorene of Granby; daughter Cindy Bilodeau and husband Leonard of Granby; his daughter-in-law Tammy Brown of Guildhall, Vt.; 13 grandchildren and their spouses; 19 great-grandchildren; brother Lynwood Brown and wife Barbara of Granby; sister Everdean Hodgdon of Guildhall; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; wife Vivian (Hodgdon) Brown; son Gary Brown; five brothers; two sisters; and a great-grandson Zachary Bilodeau. There are no visiting hours. of St. Johnsbury passed away Monday, Dec. 27, 2010, in Lyndonville at the home of Susie Greaves, her loving caregiver for the past 17 months. She was born in St. Johnsbury on Aug. 10, 1927, to Leo and Marie Louise (Poliquin) Donna. She attended Mt. St. Joseph Academy. She married Gerard Chaloux on June 15, 1948. Together they raised five children, spending eight years on a farm in North Danville. The rest of their married life they lived at different locations "on the hill" in St. Johnsbury. She enjoyed cooking for her family, sewing and gardening. She was a devoted member of Notre Dame and St. John's churches, spending many hours working on the Christmas bazaars and other Altar Society projects. For many years she ran a catering business with her sister-in-law, Mary Jeanne Donna. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Gerard of St. Johnsbury; three sons, Leo Chaloux and wife Jean of Wolcott, N.Y., Maurice Chaloux and wife Laurie of Waterford, and Frank Chaloux and wife Dorothy of St. Johnsbury; a daughter, Dianne Gingue and husband Andre of Waterford; a son-in-law, Scott Hooker and wife Marion of Waterford; grandchildren Linda Chaloux Mosse, Diana Chaloux, Kelley Chaloux Silon, Maria Chaloux Schaefer, Christine Chaloux Konieczny, Aaron Gingue, Andrea Chaloux, Jeremy Gingue, Lisa Chaloux , Alison Gingue Williams, Daniel Chaloux, Celia Hooker and Shaun Hooker; seven great-grandchildren; three brothers, Claude Donna and wife Mary Jeanne, Roger Donna, Normand Donna and wife Susan; two sisters Gertrude Turner and husband Robert, Dorothy Lynaugh Leonard and husband Reginald; a brother-in-law, Bill Chaloux; two sisters-in-law, Sr. Theresa Chaloux, CND, and Ms. Sara Donna; and many nieces and nephews. , 81, of Prince Haven, N.H., died Dec. 24, 2010, at her son's home in Campton, N.H., after a brief illness. Born in Somerville, Mass., on June 4, 1929, the daughter of Frank William and Ida Marcilla (Cameron) Hill. Florence grew up in Nova Scotia and resided in the Boston area for many years. She has been a resident of the Plymouth, N.H., area since 1977. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and the Baker-Pemi Senior Club. Florence is predeceased her husband, David Downing, who died in 1991; grandsons Nicholas Downing and Ezekiel Guyotte; brothers Daniel MacKenzie, Robert Hill and Ralph Hill; sister Rhodina MacKenzie. , 94, of Littleton and formerly of Lancaster, died at his home Dec. 25, 2010. Mr. Collins was born in Lancaster on Nov. 25, 1916, the son of Archie P. and Blanche (Kimball) Collins. Archie served in the U.S. Army during World War II and worked as an automotive technician for the U.S. Postal Service in Hartford, Conn. He enjoyed fishing and the Boston Red Sox, never missing a game, and he volunteered at local churches and food pantries. Spending time with his family was his greatest enjoyment. He was a member of the Free and Accepted Masons. Family members include his wife Hazella (Smith) Collins of Littleton -- they would have been married 67 years Dec. 31; three children, Roger Collins and wife Linda of Bethlehem, Judy Delaney and husband John of Florida, Ronald Collins of Washington State; granddaughters Tracy Dunn of Vermont, and Lori Dreyer and husband Daniel of Littleton, N.H.; great-granddaughter Amanda Dreyer of Littleton; and one nephew. He was predeceased by, his brother Donald Collins. A graveside service will be held in the spring in the Number Ten Cemetery, Lancaster. , age 80, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 16, 2010, at the Lafayette Center in Franconia, N.H. A native of Littleton, Bob was born July 13, 1930, a son of the late Andrew and Muriel (Huntoon) Bradley. He attended area schools, and was a 1948 graduate of the Littleton High School. Bob retired from the Fleet Bank and the Indian Head Bank. He started his banking career while in High School for the Littleton National Bank and continued on as these banks grew. He was a former member of the National Guard, a member of the New Hampshire Audubon Society, The North Country Bird Count and St. Rose of Lima Church. The family will receive friends on Thursday, Jan. 6, 2011, from 9 to 9:45 a.m. at the Pillsbury Phaneuf Funeral Home, located at 101 Union St. in Littleton. , 86, of Columbia, N.H., passed away at his son's residence in Groveton, N.H., late Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2010, after a long period of failing health. He was born in Columbia on Feb. 24, 1924, a son to Clayton and Ethel (Smith) Bennett. Aaron served with honor in the U.S. Army in the European theater of World War II, and was a combatant during the Battle of the Bulge. For most of his working life, Clayton was a mill worker, employed by the Diamond International Co. and by the James River Corp. His hobbies and interests including auto racing, which is a Bennett family affair, NASCAR, and snowmobiling. He was a member of the American Legion in Groveton, VFW Post 5243 and the Stratford Nighthawks snowmobile club. Aaron leaves behind his daughter, Darlene Eastman of Lewiston, Maine; two sons, Aaron W. Bennett Jr. of Groveton, N.H., and Michael Bennett of Bloomfield, Vt.; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Dolena (Reynolds) Bennett; his second wife, Margaret (Stanton) Bennett; a son, Floyd Bennett Sr.; two brothers, Clayton "Joe" Bennett Jr., and Adrian Bennett; and two sisters, Laura Noyes and Elizabeth Adair.
