Former Lyndon Institute (LI) Headmaster
Archie P. Mallon

died last weekend at the age of 81. He served as headmaster from 1963 to 1973 and he was certainly known as someone who took pride in both his school and his adopted community. Indeed, he returned to Lyndon from his native Chatham, N.Y. four years ago to make his home in the Northeast Kingdom. He could often be seen cheering LI teams at sporting events and friends know he was an active supporter of the LI jazz program. Many remember the pleasant conversations with him in the post office and on the street. And we certainly remember how much he loved his adopted town. He took it upon himself to pick up bottles and litter from the street and he didn't need a pep talk about our area. He believed in the beautification of the community by way of personal example. And he always set a high standard by way of personal example. To quote Lyndon resident Fred Bona, "Mr. Mallon was from the old school, he demanded respect and he got it. He had all of our children in school and was well liked by all of them." He will be missed.
