She was born April 15, 1915 in Westmore, the daughter of the late William and Bertha (Smith) Spencer. Before retiring she worked in the West Burke General Store. She is survived by her children, Glendon Corrow and wife Marilyn of St. Johnsbury, Gaynell Fleury and husband James of Springfield, MA, Maureen Corrow of Springfield, MA, and Darryel Corrow and wife Teresa of East Burke; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Sylvia Robertson of Newbury. A son, Arthur Corrow, predeceased her. There will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be held at the Hillside Cemetery in West Burke on Saturday, May 24, 2003, at 11 a.m.

, 95, of Lancaster, NH, passed away at Littleton Regional Hospital, Monday, Dec. 30, 2002. She was born in Clinton, ME, Jan. 16, 1907, the daughter of Frederic and Grace (Bullard) Langworthy. She resided in Lancaster most of her life. She graduated from Lancaster Academy, June 15, 1925, and Middlebury College in 1929. In 1936, she married Francis Eugene Day of East Brownfield, ME. They had three children, a son Frederic (1938-1950); and two daughters, Deborah Arsenault of Lancaster, and Barbara-Jean Baker of Green Harbor, MA. Family members include her devoted brother, Frederic Burns Langworthy, with whom she shared her home after his retirement in 1982. Mrs. Day was an avid reader, learner and lover of books and was assistant librarian in both the children and adult departments at Weeks Memorial Library. She served as vice president and president of the Alumnae Association; she was a Girl Scout troop leader and a member of the Historical Society. She was a lifetime member of Christ United Methodist Church and closely affiliated with church activities. Music was always a part of her life, and for many years she was soprano soloist as well as participant in many local musical events and community projects. , 93, died Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2003, at the St. Johnsbury Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was a longtime resident of 214 Spring St., St. Johnsbury. She was born in St. Johnsbury, Aug. 13, 1909, the daughter of Frank A. and Elise (Beck) Lawrence. Miss Lawrence graduated from St. Johnsbury Academy in 1927. Upon graduation she became a secretary with the UVM Extension Service, a position she thoroughly enjoyed for 52 years. In her words, "It's interesting work. It's always changing to meet the needs of the people." Reta was honored by both the University of Vermont and the State Agricultural College upon her retirement in 1979. She enjoyed crafts, gardening and getting together with family members for birthdays and other celebrations at Joe's Pond or at the Lawrence family farm. She is survived by two sisters-in-law, Doris Lawrence of St. Johnsbury, and Beaulah Lawrence of Danville; six nephews, Lawrence Kimball and wife Ann of St. Johnsbury, Charles Lawrence and wife Salee of Waterford, Alan Wilcox and wife Claire of Essex Junction, Albert Lawrence and wife Beatrice of Huntington, CT, Robert Lawrence of Hyattsville, MD, and Frank Lawrence and wife Ann of St. Johnsbury; and three nieces, Virginia Johnson and husband Ray of St. Johnsbury, Cynthia Scofield and husband Walter of Highgate Center, and Ellen Hankins and husband Jack of Bellevue, WA. Reta was predeceased by three brothers, Carl B. Lawrence, Horace A. Lawrence and twin brother Frank Ray Lawrence; and two sisters, Bernice Kimball and Margaret Wilcox. , 47, of Concord, Vt., passed away Dec. 26, 2002, in Concord. She was born Aug. 4, 1955 in Meriden, Conn., the daughter of the late John C. and Christel J. (Galuschka) Amerosoe. She worked as a senior biller at the Cottage Hospital and had worked at Corner Medical in Lyndonville. She is survived by her husband, Mark Bush; her daughter, Jamie Burnett; her stepchildren, Jeremy and Autumn Bush; her two sisters; her parents-in-law, Harold and Gladys Bush; and Jamie's paternal grandparents, Rosemary and James Burnett. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday, Jan. 4, at 11 a.m., at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, St. Johnsbury, with the Rev. Patrick Forman officiating. God looked around his garden and He found an empty place. He then looked down upon the earth, and saw your tired face. He put his arms around you and lifted you to rest. , 84, of Littleton, widow of Edgar Davis of Bethlehem, died Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2003, at Littleton Regional Hospital after a brief illness. She was well-known in the area as an accomplished keyboard musician and a retired piano and school teacher. Mrs. Davis was born Virginia Mary Tookey in Lincoln, Neb., Oct. 8, 1918, to Harvey and Mable (Davies) Tookey. At age 16, she was the valedictorian of her graduating class of Bethany High School, Lincoln, Neb., 1935. She graduated from the University of Nebraska, majoring in music. She was a member of Alpha Lambda Delta and Mu Phi Epsilon, and elected to Phi Beta Kappa in 1938. She met Edgar in Omaha, Neb., and they were married in 1947, in San Antonio, Texas. Their first home was a homestead in Anchorage, Alaska Territory. She accompanied her husband throughout his military career, which took their growing family to Massachusetts, South Carolina, France, Germany and Colorado. The family moved to Bethlehem in 1963. She taught in North Country schools from 1963 to 1986 including 18 years at the Groveton Elementary School. Wherever Virginia was, there was music. She played regularly for many area events. Until her husband's death last April she was organist at the Whitefield Community Church. She also loved gardening, cooking and sewing. She is survived by her five daughters, Virginia of Concord, N.H., Elizabeth of Newmarket, N.H., Mable Fraser of Vershire, Vt., Rosalie Payette of Boston, Mass., and Rachel of West Hartford, Conn.; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; a sister, Rosalie M. Tookey of Pueblo, Colo.; and a brother, Harvey L. Tookey of Peoria, Ill.; and many nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held today, Jan. 3, from 5-7 p.m., at Pillsbury Funeral Home, 101 Union St., Littleton. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Sugar Hill Community Church, Sugar Hill, with the Rev. Thomas Golden officiating. , 73, peacefully passed on Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2002, at the Copley Hospital in Morrisville. Her passing came as a result of a gradual period of physical decline resulting from post polio syndrome. Throughout the last 50 years of her life, she carried her disability with grace, dignity and quiet strength. Florence was born July 31, 1928, to the late Joseph and Leonie (Brochu) Couture on their farm in East Hardwick, the third of six children. She attended elementary school in East Hardwick and high school at Hardwick Academy. She married Clarence Gallant in St. Norbert's Catholic Church in Hardwick, Sept. 25, 1948. He predeceased her in January 1972, after 24 years of marriage. They resided on Cottage Street with their family. Their six children survive them: Phillip Gallant of Newburyport, Mass., Patricia Daniels and husband Alfred of Fairfax, Vt., Cynthia Cota and husband Jim of Georgia, Vt., Clare Hale and husband Tom of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., Jeffrey Gallant and life partner Fred Munoz of Phoenix, Ariz., and Jo-Anne Stubbs and husband Brian of Hardwick. Florence's extended family includes 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. One grandson predeceased her. She is also survived by her three sisters, Bertha Hooper of Hardwick, Pauline Willard of Montpelier, Annette Couture of San Mateo, Calif., and Robert Couture of Loomis, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Norman Couture. During her life, Florence took greatest pleasure by selflessly devoting herself to the care and comfort of her family. She also enjoyed community activities in Hardwick. She was a communicant of St. Norbert's Church, an active member of the Catholic Daughters and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She was an enthusiastic and faithful participant in St. Norbert's bingo games, as long as she was physically able. Florence's inner strength, selfless giving, and unconditional love were her greatest legacy and an inspiration to her family and friends. , 93, a native of Vermont and a longtime resident of Woodsville, N.H. prior to relocating to California six years ago, passed away Saturday, Dec. 14, 2002. For 25 years Mrs. Weed enjoyed a career as a kindergarten teacher in the Monroe, N.H., school district. She graduated from Montpelier Seminary in 1926 and also studied at Cornell University. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Teacher's Honor Association, and a longtime member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Woodsville, where she served many times on the vestry and was a member of the altar guild. She is lovingly survived by her daughter, Rogene Baxter of Moraga, Calif.; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and sister, Audrey Bilodeau of Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore H. Weed, in 1955, and her daughter, Elizabeth Weed Wyskiel, in 1974. Mrs. Bean was a cook at the St. Johnsbury House for 15 years, and formerly a candymaker at Maple Grove Farms. She was always knitting and sharing her craft with others. Survivors include a daughter, Priscilla Longmoore and husband David of Wells River; six grandchildren; 17 grandchildren; 9 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Leo Bean, on May 17, 1967; a son, Ashley Bean, in 1978; two sisters, Genevieve Trush and Rose Vear; and two brothers, Henry and Roland Toussaint. He was raised in Island Pond, graduated from Plymouth State College, Plymouth, N.H., in 1961, and spent 25 years in education in Vermont and New Hampshire before retiring to Sun City Center in 1991. He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Ann Bryan Cameron; a son, Bryan Cameron and wife Becki of Nashua, N.H.; a daughter, Lynn Bouchard and husband Robert of Concord, N.H.; two granddaughters, Kaelyn and Hannah Bouchard; a sister, Nancy Keough and husband Richard of New York, N.Y.; and two nieces, Allyson Daynard and Stephanie Wylie. He was preceded in death by two grandsons, Stuart and Clark Cameron. There will be a memorial service Sunday, Jan. 5 at 11 a.m., at Riverview Seventh Day Adventist Church, 10401 Holland Road, Riverview, Fla. She was born in Littleton Nov. 16, 1904, a daughter to Henry and Agnes (Gadbois) Hall. She attended Littleton High School, graduating in the Class of 1922. Daisy worked 46 years as an office manager for Woolworth's Department Stores from which she retired in 1968. She was a member of the Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church Parish. She is survived by a step-daughter, Janet Sylvester and husband Samuel of Littleton. Private graveside services will be held in the Saint Rose Cemetery. , 80, of Waterford, passed away surrounded by his family, Friday, Jan. 3, 2003, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H. He was born in St. Johnsbury, March 20, 1922, the son of John and Elizabeth (Scott) Perkins. Mr. Perkins served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army. For over 18 years he worked at the Sears Co. on Eastern Avenue in the parts and repair department; he also worked for the St. Johnsbury Fire Department for 10 years. Other interests included membership in the Shrine, Masons, and the Caledonia Field and Stream Club, where he had been president. He had a strong relationship with the DAV. On Jan. 9, 1942 he married Bernice Remick, who survives him in Waterford. Other survivors include three daughters and their spouses, Lynda and Michael Morgan of Waterford, Roxanna and Douglas Jones of St. Johnsbury, and Stacy and Rodney Call of Waterford; one brother, Wayne and wife Glenda Perkins of St. Johnsbury; six grandchildren, Michael Lacaillade, Chad Lacaillade, Michael Morgan, Jennifer Jones, Jason Call and Kaitlin Call; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Bernard Bruce Perkins, in 1967. Services and burial will be held at the convenience of the family. There will be no public visiting hours. , 73, of Dalton, N.H., died Sunday, Jan. 5, 2003 at the Country Village Health Care Center, Lancaster. Mrs. Lucas was born in Fort Edward, N.Y., April 4, 1929, the daughter of Silas Stacavich and Gertrude Stackpole Stacavich Walsh. On Sept. 13, 1951 she married Bert "Bud" Lucas of Littleton, at St. Joseph's Church at Fort Edward. For a number of years the couple lived in California before moving to Dalton, where she made her home for 31 years. She worked at area shoe shops and for a time worked at the Folk House Restaurant in Dalton. Survivors are a brother, Robert Stacavich of Gansevoort, N.Y.; two sisters, Mrs. Donald (Marge) Tabor of Queensbury, N.Y., and Mrs. Anthony (Helen) Fargnoli of Bradenton, Fla.; and nieces nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband in 1979; a sister, Mrs. Robert (Anita) Byers of Glen Falls, and a brother William Stacavich. A visiting hour will be held Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 7, from 1 to 2 p.m., at the Bailey Funeral Home, Lancaster. A funeral service will follow immediately after at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. , 92, of Derby, died peacefully, Friday, Jan. 3, 2003, in Newport, surrounded by her family. She was born in Derby Jan. 17, 1910, a daughter of Henry and Amelia (Blay) Davio. On Aug. 3, 1932, she married Dennis Durocher, who predeceased her in 1980. During her lifetime Mrs. Durocher was a school bus driver, farmed in Derby, and was a sales clerk for the former M.H. Fisherman Co. and the former Derby Port Drive-In Theatre. Mrs. Durocher was a member of St. Edward's Catholic Church in Derby Line and was a volunteer for the Senior Center in Newport. Among her hobbies she enjoyed crocheting, gardening, flowers and playing cards with her family. Survivors include her children, Lawrence Durocher and wife Gloria of Fort Pierce, Fla., Joyce Before and husband Vincent of West Burke; Gloria Fortin and husband Raymond of Derby, and Christine Fortin and husband Robert of Derby; 20 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Elsie Davis of Derby; and several nieces and nephews. ," died Saturday, Jan. 4, 2003, at the Pines Rehabilitation and Health Center in Lyndonville. She was born in Concord, N.H., May 21, 1909, the daughter of Norman and Margaret (George) Nicholson. At the age of 6, her family moved to Newport, Vt., where she was a member of the first full year graduation class of Newport High School, Class of 1927. She entered the University of Vermont for the two-year teacher training course. Upon completion of the extension course and summer school credits, she was awarded a bachelor of science in education degree by the university in 1952. She was married to Guy N. Birchard for 15 years. She taught in one-room schools in Shoreham, Randolph and Brookfield at various times from 1929 to 1947, and at Randolph Junior High School from 1948 to 1952. In 1952 she moved to East Springfield, Mass., where she taught for 22 years in the new Mary O. Pottenger Elementary School, retiring in 1974. She moved to Lyndonville in 1986 to be near her family. Mrs. Birchard was a member of the East Church (Congregational) in East Springfield, Mass.; the OES of Ludlow, Mass.; Scottish Clan MacNicol (Nicholson); Vermont Historical Society; the New England Genealogical Society of Boston, Mass.; and an honorary member of the Retired Educators Association of Massachusetts. She enjoyed hobbies of genealogical research as well as quilting in which she made silk and velvet quilts for her relatives. She is survived by twin children, Edson Birchard and wife Betty of Derby, and Betsy Hazen of Ripley, W.Va.; two grandchildren, Susan Wells and husband Wade of Lyndonville, and Allen Hazen and wife Sandra of Spencer, W.Va.; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Raymond Nicholson and wife Wilma of Lee, Mass.; and a niece and nephews. Funeral services will be held Friday, Jan. 10, at 2 p.m., at the United Church of Newport, with the Rev. Martha Peck officiating. , 61, of Atwood Street, Lisbon, N.H., passed away at the Maine Medical Center in Portland, Maine, Friday, Jan. 3, 2003, after a brief illness. He was born in Troy, N.Y., March 26, 1941, a son to Howard and Olive (Wallen) Church. He served his country in the U.S. Navy. Several construction companies throughout New England employed Oliver on their drilling and blasting crews. He was a Masonic member of the Hoosic Valley Lodge in upstate New York. He also was a proud, lifetime member of the National Rifle Association. Surviving family consists of his children; two brothers, Lawrence and Charles Church, both of Petersburg, N.Y.; a niece; grandchildren; and his companion of 18 years, Louise Gunnip of Lisbon. , 68, of 4104 Mayo Street, Brooksville, Fla., 34601, died Sunday, Jan. 5, 2002 at his home in Brooksville. He was born in Portland, Maine, May 1, 1934, the son of David Gilding and Ruth (Nelson) Gilding. At the age of 14 he moved with his family from Portland to St. Johnsbury. He attended St. Johnsbury Academy, graduating with the Class of 1952. On Aug. 17, 1953 he married Rita J. Sheltra of Newport. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1954 to 1958 and was later recalled during the Berlin crisis from 1960 to 1961. Vic worked at The Caledonian-Record and was a car salesman for Warren Motors, Inc. and then later Rambusch Ford. He later worked for Mardon Industries, Inc. and in 1982 was a co-founder of A & G Metalfab, Inc. In 1985, Vic and his wife Rita founded "Party Tyme" and worked there for 15 years, finally reaching their well-deserved retirement in March 2000. Vic was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church in St. Johnsbury and after moving to Florida was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Brooksville. During his lifetime, Vic was very active in the community. While his children were growing up he was active in St. Johnsbury Little League and the Lyndon Outing Club. He was a member of the St. Johnsbury Kiwanis Club, Knights of Columbus, St. Johnsbury Parent Teacher Group, St. Johnsbury Elks Club, and the Clover Leaf Homeowners Association. In addition, Vic was also very active at St. Johnsbury Academy as a member of the Class of 1952. He served on the SJA Alumni Council from 1984 to 1999 and as president the SJA Alumni Association from 1993 to 1997. In June 1999, he was awarded the Duane B. Sherrer Alumni Distinquished Service Award. Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Rita J. Gilding; their six children, Victor C. Gilding Jr. and wife Brenda of Littleton, N.H., Patricia J. Halpin and husband Phillip of West Danville, William N. Gilding and wife Kim of St. Johnsbury, Robert D. Gilding and wife Lori of South Burlington, Barron P. Gilding and wife Patricia of St. Johnsbury, and Peggy A. Remick and husband Charles of Danville; 16 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three brothers, William E. Gilding and wife Dorine of Newport, Albert Gilding of Carmichael, Calif., and Reginald Gilding of Reno, Nev.; a sister, Gloria of Sacramento, Calif.; a sister-in-law and husband, Irene and Bruce Slater of Charlottesville, Va.; and a brother-in-law and wife, Harvey "Pete" and Bonnie Sheltra of Spring Hill, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews. , 86, of Wilder, Vt., died Sunday, Jan. 5, 2003, at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H. He attended school in Wilder and was married to Alice Martin on July 23, 1941 in Chicopee, Mass. He served in the U.S. Army from 1940 to 1945. He worked as a surgical technician at the VA Hospital in White River Junction and Mary Hitchcock Hospital in Hanover, N.H. They moved to Morgan, Vt., in 1975 and lived there until returning to the Upper Valley in 1995. He was predeceased by a daughter, Barbara Peters, in 1999. He is survived by his wife Alice of Lebanon, N.H.; children, Paul and Daniel Grant and Patricia Clough; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a brother; two sisters; and many nieces and nephews. 85, of Lyndonville, passed away at the Pines Rehabilitation and Health Center in Lyndonville, Monday, Jan. 6, 2003. He was born May 25, 1917 in Readsboro, Vt., the son of the late Clyde and Iona (Fox) Maher. His wife Betsey M. Maher predeceased him on March 27, 1999. Before retiring he worked as the manager of Grand Union for 35 years. He was a member of the Social Lodge 38 F & AM in Wilmington, Vt., and had received his 60-year pin from the lodge; and was past head of all Scottish Rite bodies in Brattleboro. He received the meritorious service award from the Council of Deliberation of Vermont. He was a member of Cairo Temple Shrine in Rutland. He is survived by his three children and their spouses, Karen and Raymond Newell of Yardville, N.J., Brian and Deborah Maher of Essex Junction, Vt., and Kimberley and Vincent Pattison of Bear, Del.; two grandchildren, Melissa and Joshua Maher of Essex Junction; his sister-in-law, Jean Garfield of Lyndonville; and three nieces. Visiting hours will be held at the funeral home Wednesday, Jan. 8, from 2 to 4 p.m. Lodge members will conduct a service at 3 p.m. Burial will be in Lyndon Center Cemetery later in the spring. , 90, formerly of East Haven, died Sunday, Jan. 5, 2003, at the Fairview Nursing Home in Hudson, N.H., at the age of 90. She was born in County Donegal, Ireland, on Sept. 8, 1912, the daughter of the late James and Ellen (Boice) Campbell. At the age of 16, she moved from Ireland to the United States and studied business in Worcester, Mass. She then moved to Philadelphia, Pa., where she worked as a bookkeeper and later met James Muldoon, whom she married Nov. 17, 1933. After retiring in early 1970 they moved to East Haven, Vt. While in East Haven she became the assistant town clerk there. She and her husband enjoyed helping the community and were very active in the East Haven Chapel. In 1986, they moved to Coventry, R.I. After the death of her husband, James, she moved to Groton, Mass., to be near her granddaughter, June Dyer. A loving grandmother, aunt and good friend to many, she will be greatly missed. Survivors include two granddaughters, June (Witte) Dyer and her husband Michael of Windham, N.H., and Carol (Witte) Garcia and her husband Gil of Tuscson, Ariz.; seven great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and close friends. She was preceded in death by her husband James Muldoon in 1997, and their daughter, Elizabeth Witte in 1977. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Jan. 11, at 1 p.m. at the funeral home, the Rev. George Frobig officiating. Burial will be in Lyndon Center Cemetery in the spring. Friends may call on the family one hour prior to the start of the service, beginning at noon. In lieu of flowers, donations made in her memory could be directed to the charity of one\'s choice.

, 59, of Hillside Drive, Marshfield, died Sunday, Jan. 5, 2003 at his home. He was born May 8, 1943 in Cabot, the son of Donald and Paulene (Ross) Dwinell. He graduated from Twinfield High School and later from Trinity College in Burlington. He was married to Carol Murphy; they later divorced. In earlier years, he worked at the former Apex Memorials in Barre. He later was an alcohol and drug abuse counselor for the Vermont Department of Human Services in the Northeast Kingdom. More recently, he operated his own computer services business from his home. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and his family genealogy. He had been a member of the Cabot Masonic Lodge. He is survived by his aunt, Marion Dwinell Burnham of Marshfield; and several cousins. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Norris "Sam" Dwinell. A service of remembrance will be held Saturday, Jan. 11, at 2 p.m., in the Church of God of Prophecy in Marshfield. Later interment will be made in the Plainmont Cemetery in East Montpelier. , 81, of Summer Street, Lancaster, died Thursday morning, Jan. 30, 2003 at his home. Mr. Eastman was born in Jefferson, March 30, 1921, the son of John Dana and Lucy Ella (Henry) Eastman. Raised in Jefferson, he was a 1939 graduate of Jefferson High School. He went on to graduate from the University of New Mexico and did graduate work in elementary education. For 32 years he worked as a research administrative assistant for the director of neurosurgery at Mass General and Boston City Hospitals. He retired in 1984. He also served one year in the U.S. Army. He was a member of St. Paul\'s Episcopal Church, Lancaster. Family members include a brother, Walter "Bud" Eastman of Whitefield; and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Janet Vashaw, and three brothers, John Dana Eastman, James Eastman and Henry Eastman. Visiting hours will be held Saturday afternoon from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Bailey Funeral Home, Lancaster. A funeral service will be held Sunday afternoon, Feb. 2, at 1 p.m., at the funeral home. 46, of Aurora, CO, died earlier this week at his home. He was born in Burlington, Sept. 5, 1956, the son of Fred and Elizabeth (Dagle) Fortin. Mr. Fortin was employed by the city and county of Denver since November 1993. He worked at the Department of Aviation at Denver International Airport as an accounting technician. He was an avid Colorado Avalanche fan. He enjoyed bicycle riding, and hiking in the Colorado Rockies, where he loved to take photographs of the scenery. Terry was happiest being outdoors. Survivors include his father, Fred Fortin of Peacham; eight brothers and sisters, Sharon and John Conova of Pawlet, Mary and John Nagel of St. Johnsbury Center, Dorothy Denoncoeur of Cranston, RI, Patrick and Raylene McCaffrey of Lyndon Center, Charles McCaffrey of Lyndonville, Thomas and Linda McCaffrey of St. Johnsbury, Shelly and Robert Snyder of Burlington, and Nicole and Robert Albright of Crestline, CA; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. He was predeceased by his mother, Elizabeth "Betty" Fortin, Feb. 26, 2001. Services will be held in the spring at the convenience of the family, with interment in Peacham Cemetery. 95, of 2215 County Road, Peacham, went to be with the Lord, Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2003, at the St. Johnsbury Health and Rehabilitation Center in St. Johnsbury. She was born in Groton, May 18, 1907, the oldest daughter of Lee and Caroline (Morrison) Somers. She graduated from Peacham Academy in the Class of 1927 and attended Beckers Business College in Worcester, MA. She married Oscar W. Hagen on April 18, 1929. They lived in Millbury and Auburn, MA, until 1946, when she and her family returned to Vermont to assist her parents at the farm in Peacham. Gwen worked at many jobs during her lifetime, including bookkeeper, factory worker, farming (which she loved), cook at the Peacham Academy, worker at Schoolcrafts Egg Plant, and she was a care giver for numerous elderly people, even into her mid-80s. She spent much of her time and energy helping others. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Groton, where she served as a choir member, superintendent of Sunday school, Sunday school teacher and church librarian. She loved gardening, crocheting, knitting, music, Bible study, genealogy, reading, and she wrote many poems. She was selflessly devoted to her family, always ready to help out in times of need. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her and loved her. She is survived by four children, Marilyn Hagen Petrie of Peacham, Oscar Lee Hagen and wife Patricia of Homer, AK, Albert M. Hagen and wife Beatrice of Fairbanks, AK, and Gayle Hagen Hatch of Ocean Spring; MS. Gwen\'s extended family includes 21 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister, Ruth Somers Chandler of Florida and Groton; two brothers, Dwight Somers of Northfield, and Kenneth Gilmore Somers and wife Virginia of West Barnet. There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 11, at 11 a.m., at the First Baptist Church, Groton, with the Rev. Dr. Eric Benson, pastor, officiating. , 90, of Essex Center, died Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2003, at home, following a long illness, with her daughter at her side, and both surrounded by loving family members, her granddaughter Karin, grandsons Kurt and Casey, and her son-in-law Neil, at the hour of her death. Elaine was born Oct. 27, 1912, in Orleans, the daughter of the late Wallace and Clementine Akley Allen. She was educated in the town of her birth, and graduated from Orleans High School. Her life was dedicated to raising her children. Elaine was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church, and while living in Lewiston, ME, with her son Gary for 20 years, she volunteered many hours with her church community in fund-raising programs, and sharing her gift of cooking at the annual lobster luncheons. She enjoyed sewing in her spare time, watching basketball and the NBA\'s Utah Jazz, but her greatest pleasure was producing birthday cakes and special pies for her grandchildren. Elaine loved to travel abroad, especially enjoying visits to London, England. She was an avid reader, sharing her avocation by donating her large print edition books to local libraries. Above all else, Elaine was always the most enthusiastic supporter of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, encouraging their individual life endeavors. Elaine\'s family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation and thanks to Pam Wood, Barb Ailes and Irene Martinez for their love and support, kind and compassionate care offered and given in full measure. She is survived by her daughter, Norma Pollard and husband Neil of Essex Center, with whom she had lived for the past four years; four sons, Allen E. , 53, of Scotch Hollow Road, Newbury, died Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2003, at Cottage Hospital in Woodsville. He was born Jan. 29, 1949, in Woodsville, the son of Earl and Mildred (Purcell) Page. He attended schools in Newbury and was a 1967 graduate of Newbury High School. He was employed by Crele Construction Company in Middletown, Conn., for the past 18 years as a specialist in clearing wood lots for new highways and buildings. He was a true master at climbing trees with a rope in one hand and a chainsaw in the other. He also worked for himself doing what he loved most, cutting trees down for a lot of people in the Newbury area. He was an avid outdoorsman; he loved to hunt and hike. He enjoyed his hunting camp on Moore Hill in Newbury where he was always cutting wood and working his skidder or just walking around his property with one of his seven grandchildren, whom he truly enjoyed the most. He is survived by one daughter, Rhonda List of Hinesburg; two sons, Philip Page of Newbury and Jeffery Page of West Newbury; seven grandchildren; and one brother, Bob Page of Newbury. He was predeceased by one brother, Ronald Page. A gathering for family and friends to celebrate Rick\'s life will be held Sunday, Jan. 12, from 1-5 p.m., at his home on Scotch Hollow Road in Newbury. Mrs. Kidder graduated from Peacham Academy in 1920 and had resided in Woodsville for most of her life. She was a longtime member of the Woodsville United Methodist Church, where she formerly served as treasurer, financial officer and choir director, and was also a member of the church Women\'s Club. Other memberships included the Woodsville Progressive Club and Rebekahs. Mrs. Kidder was predeceased by her husband, Ernest F. Kidder, Dec. 22, 1990; and a brother, Charles Lamb. Gorden was self-employed. He owned a number of restaurants, including the Hi Boy in Lyndonville and the Silverado in St. Johnsbury. He enjoyed golfing. , 68, TSG-U.S. Air Force-Retired, of St. Johnsbury, formerly of Lebanon, N.H., died Saturday, Jan. 11, 2003, at Cottage Hospital in Woodsville. He was born in Lebanon, N.H., April 10, 1934, a son of Grace (Vaudreuil) King and the late Ernest P. King. He grew up in Lebanon and was a graduate of Lebanon High School, Class of 1952. He was a 23-year veteran of the United States Air Force and retired after a career which included a tour in Korea and two tours in Vietnam. He was a member of the American Legion Post 58 of St. Johnsbury, and was an avid golfer and fisherman. He was predeceased by his father; and his wife Beryl King. Survivors include a daughter, Ruth King of Owensboro, Ky.; two sons, Michael King of Orfield, Pa., and Peter King of Tucson, Ariz.; a sister, Elizabeth Trembley of St. Johnsbury; four grandchildren; and several cousins. , 73, of French Road, Dalton, N.H., passed away at the Weeks Memorial Hospital, Lancaster, Saturday, Jan. 11, 2002, following a short illness. She was born in St. Albans, Vt., and had lived in Dalton for many years. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, and was an avid crafter and reader. She is survived by a son, Kevin Whittum Sr. of Dalton; two daughters, Marsha Whittum of Dalton, and Cathy Whittum of Concord; 14 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Armistice, in 1994; a son, Johnathon; and a daughter, Carol. A gathering of family and friends will take place today, Jan. 13, from 7-9 p.m., at the Ross Funeral Home, Whitefield Chapel. , 92, of Lancaster, passed away at Weeks Medical Center, Lancaster, Friday, Jan. 10, 2003, after a brief illness. Born in Maidstone, Vt., Dec. 29, 1910, she was the daughter of Gilbert H. and Ora (McLain) McDade. She grew up in Maidstone and went to Groveton High School, graduating in 1930. After high school, Nellie went to Lyndon Teacher\'s College and graduated with a three-year certificate degree in teaching. She taught in the Ryegate schools until her marriage to Sylvanus W. Thurston in 1940. She and her husband bought and operated a large dairy farm in Lunenburg, which they ran successfully until the early 1960s. During the 1940s, Nellie also taught in the Lunenburg school, but left teaching to help on the farm. In the early 1960s, they retired from farming, but kept the farm. Nellie returned to teaching during the 1960s, teaching at the one-room school in South Kirby, and then teaching at North Stratford. She also returned to college, graduating in 1965 with her four-year degree in teaching from Lyndon State College. Her last teaching job was at Lancaster Elementary School, where she taught third grade. After her husband\'s death in 1975, and her retirement from teaching in 1976, Nellie continued to live on the Lunenburg farm until the end of 1993. In January 1994 she moved to the Open Arms shared home in Lancaster and lived there until the time of her death. During the past 20-plus years, Nellie has been a volunteer at Weeks Memorial Hospital, and in May 2002, she was awarded a pin for 7,000 hours of service. She is a past recipient of the Mel Gallup Award, the highest recognition awarded by the volunteer program. Throughout her life, Nellie loved gardening, her flowers (especially dahlias) and bingo. Nellie is survived by her son, Michael Thurston and wife Sandra of Barre; three grandchildren, Missie, Tyler and Corrina Thurston; a sister, Elsie McMann of Country Village in Lancaster; and many nieces and nephews. At Nellie\'s request, there will be no calling hours or funeral service. There will be a graveside service at Ridgwell Cemetery in Guildhall in the spring. , 71, of 116 Old County Road, Newbury, died Saturday, Jan. 11, 2003 at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, Lebanon, N.H., following an extended illness. He was born April 30, 1931 in Newbury, a son of Albert and Florence (Avery) Minshull. He married Marjorie Powers Oct. 3, 1952. Mr. Minshull was employed at the Newbury Elementary School for over 30 years. He served as the Newbury town constable for over 20 years, and held other town offices. He served as a deputy for the Orange County Sheriff\'s Department for many years, and ran a trucking business on weekends. , 89, formerly of Danville, more recently of the St. Johnsbury Health and Rehabilitation Center, died Monday, Jan. 13, 2003 in St. Johnsbury. She was born in East Ryegate, May 15, 1913, the daughter of Ellery and Elsie (Clark) Pillotte. Vieda attended school in Lisbon, N.H. For 20 years she worked as a waitress at Aime\'s Restaurant, and 15 years at the Maple Center Motel as a night clerk. Vieda was past most excellent chief of the Danville Pythian Sisters. Other interests included knitting, crocheting and cooking, where she specialized in sweet rolls and raised, glazed donuts. She loved gardening and decorating, especially at Christmas. Most of all she loved her family. , 74, of Northfield, N.H., died Saturday, Jan. 11, 2003, at Franklin Regional Hospital in Franklin, N.H. She was born in Newport, Vt., Feb. 23, 1928, the daughter of Clarence and Eva (Morse) Hill. Mrs. Stuart was raised in the Newport area and later resided in Danville. She was a resident of Farmington, N.H., for four years before moving to Northfield three years ago. Family members include six children, Clarence F. Stuart of Northfield, Richard L. Stuart of St. Johnsbury Center, Gretchen A. Stuart of Hardwick, James M. Stuart of St. Johnsbury, Priscilla P. Tetreault of East Barnet, and Maria F. Stuart of Lipan, Texas; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, Clarence Hill of Newport Center, and Dean Hill Sr. of Newport; four sisters, Alena Sherlaw of Newport Center, Helen Rainey of Lyndonville, June Stuart of Barre, and Dwanetta Bickford of Derby; and nieces and nephews. , 66, of East Hardwick, died Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2003, at his home in East Hardwick. He was born Dec. 24, 1936 in Jericho, the son of Richard Bolio Sr. and Marita (Root) Bolio. He married Judith Brittain Sept. 14, 1957, in Fair Haven, Mass. He was a farmer, construction worker and logger. He loved the outdoors, gardening, ice fishing, his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Surviving relatives include his wife of 45 years, Judith; four children, Carol Bolio of St. Johnsbury, Roger Bolio and wife Linda of East Hardwick, Deborah and husband Robert Fradette of Bernardston, Mass., and Peter Bolio Jr. and fiancee Shirleen Willey and her children; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. , 71, of Ellington, Conn., husband of Catherine (Egan) Clifford, died Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2003 at home. Born in Middlefield, Conn., the son of the late Howard and Beryl (Newell) Clifford, he lived in Ellington for 37 years. He enjoyed fishing and was an avid NASCAR fan. He was an army veteran of the Korean conflict. Duane was a lead man at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft, where he had worked for 41 years, prior to his retirement in 1994. Besides his wife Catherine, he leaves his four children, Tamara Clifford and companion Robert Webster of Vernon, Conn., Andrea Clifford of Manchester, Conn., and Michael Clifford and Gary Clifford, both of Ellington, Conn.; his two sisters and their husbands, Barbara and Anthony Misciangioli of New Britain, Conn., and Alana and Willy St. George of St. Johnsbury; a brother and his wife, Bruce and Nancy Clifford of East Hartford; and his grandchildren, Joshua Clifford, Zachary Clifford and Robert Travis Webster. She was born in Vershire, Nov. 24, 1922, a daughter of Samuel and Emma (Clark) Ricker. She had resided in the Piermont and Bradford area most of her life, spending the last five years in Newbury. Children were the center of Mrs. Fulford's life; not only her children and grandchildren, but also many children in the towns in which she lived. Mrs. Fulford was predeceased by her husband, Howard A. Fulford Sr., July 6, 1983; a son, Arnold R. Fulford; three brothers, Ralph, Hollis and Reginald Ricker; and two sisters, May Parker and Beulah Martin. Survivors include two sons, Sam E. Fulford and wife Laurel of Orford, N.H., and Howard A. "Howie" Fulford Jr. and wife Michele of Woodsville; two daughters, Madeline E. Gerhart of Barre, and Maxine E. Brooks and husband Olin "Pat" of Springfield; 15 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren; a brother, Arnold Ricker and wife Jeanine of Vershire; a brother-in-law, Les Welch of South Sutton, N.H.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She enjoyed hunting and fishing and spending time with her family. She is survived by her husband, Gerald H. Barrows of Lyndonville; two daughters, LoriAnn DeLude and Zola Farr, both of Lyndonville; one brother; one sister; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. , 95, of Lyndonville, died Friday morning, Jan. 17, 2003, at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital in St. Johnsbury. She was born June 4, 1907, in Essex Junction, the last surviving child of Irving A. and Ella J. (Bates) Gilbert. On Sept. 2, 1951, she married G. Fred Lenton. Helen worked as a stock clerk for the W.T. Grant store in St. Johnsbury for many, many years. She was an avid knitter and crocheter, and was a long-time member of the Doll Club in Lyndon. She enjoyed gardening and tending to her roses. Spending time with family and friends was also very important to her. She is survived by seven grandchildren; several great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Helen was predeceased by her husband of 42 years, Fred G. Lenton, in 1993; two sons, Wendall Johnson, and Samford Randall; her daughter, Joyce Giacco; two brothers, Allen and Arnold Gilbert; and two sisters, Gladys Edney and Mildred Folley. A memorial service will be held at the funeral home Thursday, Jan. 23, at 7 p.m., with her close friend Mr. John Sleeper officiating. There will be no visiting hours. She and her daughter Joyce will be buried in the Passumpsic Cemetery this spring. , 78, of Perron Hill Road, Glover, passed away in St. Johnsbury, Friday, Jan. 17, 2003. He was born in St. Paul de Chester, PQ, Aug. 16, 1924, the son of Ernest and Maria (Gagnon) Perron. Marcel moved to Glover with the family in 1924 and has always worked on the family farm. He loved music and liked to play the harmonica. He also had a special love for animals. , 79, of 201 Benton Road, North Haverhill, died Friday, Jan. 10, 2003, at the Grafton County Nursing Home in North Haverhill. He was born Oct. 30, 1923 in Haverhill, the son of Leon Roy Willoughby and Elizabeth Deming. He was a graduate of the Tilton School in Tilton, N.H., Class of 1944. He then entered the United States Army and served from 1945 through 1947 in the European Theater. Following his military service, Mr. Willoughby attended and graduated from Nichols College in June 1950, with an associate's degree in business administration. Mr. Willoughby worked for General Electric Co. of Lynn, Mass., in the Medium Steam Turbine Division, as a purchasing expeditor, from 1951 to 1958. In 1958 he started working for the State Street Bank and Trust Company of Boston as a senior buyer in the procurement department, retiring in 1985. He was a member of the Quarter Century Club, State Street Boston Corporation, the Greater Boston Bankers Association, the Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests, and attended the North Haverhill United Methodist Church. He was predeceased by a brother, Leon L. Willoughby; and a sister, Marguerite W. Delaney on March 9, 1990. Surviving relatives include three nephews and one niece. There will be no calling hours. On March 16, 1927 she married Garland Amidon of Lyndonville, who predeceased her. Before retiring she worked as a Caledonia County Court officer. She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Lyndonville, the Eastern Star, the Lyndonville Improvement Society, and the Lyndon Women's Club. She is survived by her children, Patricia Meaden of Geneva, N.Y., and William Amidon of Boston, Mass.; her sister, Irene Grady of St. Johnsbury; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. , 82, of Boynton Avenue, St. Johnsbury, died Sunday, Jan. 19, 2003 at the St. Johnsbury Health and Rehabilitation Center in St. Johnsbury. He was born in Lunenburg, June 27, 1920, the son of Kyle and Bessie (Dodge) Brown. Mr. Brown served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II, and in the U.S. Army Reserves Judge Advocacy Corps, retiring with the rank of Captain. Kyle graduated from Lancaster Academy; Middlebury College, where he was Phi Beta Kappa; and the University of Syracuse, where he earned a J.D. degree in law. In 1950 he was admitted to the Vermont bar, and he practiced law in St. Johnsbury from 1950 to 1985. He served as a municipal judge, justice of the peace, and was on the Board of Civil Authority. Many will remember him as the St. Johnsbury Town Moderator, a position he held for 24 years. He was a 50 year member and past exalted ruler of the Elks, a member of the Masons, achieving the 33rd degree; a life member of the American Legion and a member of the VFW. Mr. Brown enjoyed baseball both as a player and a coach, was a Boston Red Sox fan and an avid golfer. On Aug. 19, 1944 he married Eloise (Warren) Brown, who predeceased him July 20, 2001. He was also predeceased by his sister Dorothy (Brown) Garborsky, Nov. 15, 1994. Survivors include his son, Kyle T. Brown III and friend Melissa Talatinian of St. Johnsbury; his daughter, Gaye Brown of Baltimore, Md.; a niece, Andrea (Gaborsky) Willson of St. Johnsbury; and cousins Marion Streeter and Marjorie Lavalle, both of Lunenburg. Memorial services will be held at the Sayles Funeral Home, Wednesday, Jan. 22 at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Robert Sargent officiating. An Elks memorial service will immediately follow. , 90, of Lyndonville and Bushnell, Fla., passed away at Redstone Villa in St. Albans, Sunday, Jan. 19, 2003. He was born in Randolph, Jan. 7, 1913, the son of Elvine Obumsawin, and was the beloved husband of the late Janice Royce. Len, as he was known to his friends and family, retired from New England Telephone after 23 years. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific Theater, receiving the Silver Star. In addition to his family and working, his joys and passions were his friends, hunting, fishing, and golf. Ellsworth was an avid outdoorsman and cribbage player. He enjoyed golf in Florida and Vermont since his retirement. Ellsworth spent many years of his youth on Thompson Point with his grandfather, Simon Obumsawin, and learning much of his hunting and fishing while there. He helped Simon make a birchbark canoe, and could hunt well with a bow. Ellsworth worked as a logger, on many farms, and driving milk trucks. While in the National Guards he placed third in the nation at 100 yard targets at Camp Perry in 1940. He was a deer hunter and one of Northeastern Vermont's earliest moose and caribou hunters. He enjoyed local fishing and many trips to northern Quebec. Golf was a sport he began 30 years ago. He shared these interests with his sons and many local sportsmen friends. He traveled cross-country and visited Alaska twice, once canoeing the Yukon River from Whitehorse to Dawson in the Yukon. Ellsworth married Janice Joslyn Dec. 27, 194o. On Dec. 7, 1942, he was discharged from the military service at Fort Blanding, Fla., and reenlisted immediately and fought with the 43rd Infantry Division. He was a member of numerous veterans and civic organizations throughout his life, including the American Legion Post 30, VFW Post 10038, Crescent Lodge 66 F & AM, Elks Lodge 1343, Telephone Pioneers of Vermont, Junior NRA, and Boy Scouts of America. He is survived by three sons, Eric Royce and wife Lucy of St. Albans, Duane Royce and wife Nancy of Bloomfield, Conn., and Clyde Royce of Alexander, Va.; a sister, Nattie Miles of Northfield; a brother, Henry Royce and wife Vernice of Stowe; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews. He will be missed by his friends in Vermont and Florida, where he wintered for many years after his retirement. He was predeceased by his wife, Janice Joslyn Royce, in 1973; a son, David Royce, in 1993, and a sister, Mae Blodgett. The family wishes to give their deepest thanks to the entire staff at Redstone Villa for the wonderful care and attention given to Ellsworth. , 81, of Stafford, Va., formerly of New Paltz, N.Y., departed from this life Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2003 at Carriage Hill Nursing Home in Stafford. Mrs. Junquet was born March 24, 1921 in Waterford, a daughter of Emile and Marie A. Lebrun Dussault. She attended the St. Joseph's Academy, Class of 1941. She retired from St. Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., in March, 1986, after performing expert duties as a medical lab technologist for 40 years and 9 months. She was a member of St. William of York Parish in Stafford. She was preceded in death by her parents; seven brothers, Msgr. Joseph H., Albert, John, Walter, her twin brother Paul, Robert, and Raymond Dussault; and three sisters, Amanda Descoteaux, Jean Lauria and Lorraine Talcove. She is survived by her four children and their spouses, Virginia and Dale Hudson of Stafford, Va., Janice and Duane Taylor of Riverview, Fla., Joseph and Jane Junquet of Orangeburg, S.C., and Arthur and Linda Junquet of Largo, Fla.; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandsons; three sisters, Margaret Hall and husband Frank of St. Johnsbury, Cecile Coppotelli of Staten Island, N.Y., and Theresa Brown of West Warwick, R.I.; and one brother and his wife, Edward and Kim Dussault of Fredericksburg, Va. , 97, of Lyndon Terrace, Lyndonville, passed away Saturday, Jan. 18, 2003 at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital in St. Johnsbury. Florence was born in St. Johnsbury, Jan. 3, 1906, the fourth of eight children born to Gardiner and Carrie Grady. Her early childhood was spent in Kinnear's Mills, Quebec. She graduated from St. Johnsbury Academy, class of 1924. She studied the cello with Lola French. She married Garland H. Amidon in St. Johnsbury on March 16, 1927. They had two children, Patricia Joan and William Garland. During World War II, while a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, she volunteered as an aircraft spotter in the Lyndonville area. In the 1950s she was a Welcome Wagon hostess. For several years she was a Caledonia County Court officer. She was well known for her wedding and party cakes. She was also a promotional representative for Cross Baking Company. Florence was a member of the Lyndonville Congregational Church and with her husband served on the church board. She was a Gray Lady volunteer, a life member of the Eastern Star, as well as a member of the V.I.S. and Lyndonville Woman's Club. She was also a Cub Scout den mother, and a member of several bridge clubs. She also had been a volunteer at the Lyndonville Information Booth. Florence was first and foremost a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and animal lover. She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Meaden and husband Albert of Geneva, N.Y.; her son, William Amidon and wife Pamela of Boston, Mass.; grandchildren Carrie Amidon, Brad Amidon, Mark Meaden, Mary Ruth Warne and Joanne Pearl; great-grandchildren Zoe, Hannah, Maria, Carol Pat, William, Matthew, Benjamin and Justin; her sister, Irene Grady of St. Johnsbury; a sister-in-law, Dot Grady of Bradenton, Fla.; and 22 nieces and nephews. She will also be missed by her wonderful friends, and a yellow lab named Sandy. She was predeceased by her husband Garland in 1974; and siblings and in-laws Ferdinand and Florence, Madeline and Walter, Gladys and Raymond, Harriet and Claire, John and Willie, Allen, Westman and Grace, Merritt and Evelyn, Cyril and Esther, Gordon and Edith, Effie and Elwin, and Caddy and Doris. , 83, of Franconia, passed away Monday, Jan. 20, 2003 at the Genesis Lafayette Center. Mrs. Rowins was born Oct. 18, 1919 in Torrington, CT, the daughter of the late Alexander and Katherine (Spurgis) Radzevich. She was a graduate of Bay Path College, and she married Stan Rowins on Aug. 26, 1944 in Torrington, CT. It was skiing that brought Helen and Stan to the North Country in 1945 and soon became her favorite outdoor sport. One month after taking up the sport of skiing, her ability and enthusiasm led her from the top of Cannon Mountain to the bottom; doing five runs in one day! Helen and Stan opened an inn for skiers, which later expanded into Rowins' Motel. Helen also enjoyed hiking, sailing and gardening. She was an extremely giving person both to her family and the community, volunteering at Littleton Regional Hospital for over 20 years along with local nursing homes. She was also very active in her church. She will be sorely missed by her family, and they look forward to meeting her in her heaven's home. Surviving family members include her husband, Stan Rowins of Franconia, NH; one daughter, Cindy Spicer of Littleton, NH; one son, Chris Rowins of Syracuse, UT; and two grandchildren, Joshua and Aaron Spicer of Littleton. , 91, of Hanover, NH, formerly of Sutton, MA and St. Johnsbury, died Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2002, in Hanover Terrace Healthcare, after a long illness. He was born in Worcester, MA, the son of George L. and Carrie L. (McCracken) Stockwell, and lived in Sutton, MA before moving to St. Johnsbury, where he lived for many years. He worked as a licensed electrician for Ostrow Electric and was also self-employed. He was a member of the Grange in Barnet, a member of Washburn Lodge 92 F & AM in Danville, a member of the Danville Congregational Church, a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and a graduate of Wentworth Institute. His wife, Margaret "Jean" (Newton) Stockwell, died in 1991. He leaves two daughters, Margaret Ann Cole of Mendenhall, PA, and Muriel Bennett of New Boston, NH; five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. 18, of Main Street, Bradford, died Thursday, Jan. 23, 2003, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H. from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. She was born in Morrisville on Jan. 10, 1985, a daughter of Mark Perry and Michelle Sabin. Chrissy was a member of the senior class at Blue Mountain Union School in Wells River, where she was a standout athlete, musical talent and student. She was the leading scorer in Blue Mountain girls basketball history, and was closing in on the overall boys/girls school record. Chrissy scored her 1,000th career point in basketball at Whitcomb High on Dec. 20, 2001. She was recently named as one of 10 Vermont finalists for the McDonald's All-American Game. Chrissy was a member of the Division IV 2001 girls soccer runner-up team and 2002 girls basketball title winning team at Blue Mountain. She has co-captained the girls basketball team, which has won 33 straight games. She received numerous basketball awards from Middle School tournaments where she was MVP of both the Blue Mountain Rotary and Oxbow tournaments in 1998 and 1999. She played six years of AAU, attending tournaments in Connecticut and Long Island, and played point guard at the Junior Nationals in 2000. Chrissy also played in numerous other state and regional tournaments. Her athletic talent was not restricted to the basketball court, as she scored 105 goals and 99 assists in her soccer career and was named to the 2002 Burlington Free Press All-State Team and Second Team in 2001. Chrissy was an All-State selection for the Vermont Soccer Coaches Association in Division IV and a member of the All Central Vermont League for the past three seasons. She was the Central Vermont League Rookie of the Year in 1999 and was nominated to the All-American Girls Soccer Team and the All-New England Girls Soccer Team. She was First Team in the Central Vermont League; and Second Team Burlington Free Press her junior year. She was recognized by the Burlington Free Press as its March 8, 2002 Athlete of the Week. Not only was Chrissy an athlete, she was also a fine musician. Her musical accomplishments include the Newport, Vt. Music Festival (2000 and 2001), All New England Music Festival (2000-2002) in Plymouth, N.H., a leading role in "You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown" (2000), participation in the Vermont State One Act Play Contest (2001), a lead role in "Spoon River Anthology" (2002), and female lead in "The Music Man." Chrissy had been just as active in her academics and school activities, holding the co-vice president office in her junior and senior years; she was a member of the National Honor Society (inducted 2001); selected for the Hugh O'Brien Award; and received the Bausch & Lomb Science Award for highest cumulative science average in the junior class. She was the leader of the BMU National Anthem Chorale and received numerous school academic and leadership awards. Chrissy maintained a 97.7 GPA, and had been selected as the class valedictorian, receiving UVM's Green and Gold Award. With all her accomplishments, no one will ever forget her beautiful spirit and joy for life. , 90, of West Stewartstown, NH, formerly of Berlin, NH and Island Pond, passed away Thursday Jan, 23, 2003, at the Coos County Nursing Hospital. Mr. Lawrence was born Oct. 14, 1912, in Island Pond, the son of the late John E. and Mary Ellen (Belland) Lawrence. He was a car oiler and inspector for the Canadian National Railway until his retirement. He was a communicant of St. James the Greater Catholic Church in Island Pond. , 73, of Newark, passed away in St. Johnsbury, Friday, Jan. 24, 2003. He was born in Holland, Sept. 15, 1929, the son of Alfred and Blanche (Whiting) Cross. Wyman worked at a variety of jobs including working on the railroad in Island Pond, farming in Newark, doing construction, logging and trucking; and he also owned and operated his own business repairing chainsaws, lawn mowers and snowmobiles in Newark. After his retirement, he enjoyed visiting with friends and neighbors. On June 22, 1951, Wyman married the former Joyce Maxwell, who survives him. He enjoyed traveling, especially to his hometown in New Brunswick. On Jan. 14, 1989, Lewis married the former Rachel Diette, who survives him. She was born in Williams Bay, Wis., Aug. 16, 1911, the daughter of Luther and Jessie (Lambie) Pollard. She was a graduate of Orono, Maine High School and the University of Maine, Orono in 1933, and she taught school in Campton Village and Lisbon, N.H. She had been a resident of Littleton for 63 years, and was an expert gardener, knitter and quilter. She was an active member of the First Congregational Church of Littleton, Emma Merrill Guild, Mt. Eustis Chapter 37 of the Eastern Star, Past Matrons Association, Littleton Garden Club, Women\'s Auxiliary of the Littleton Regional Hospital, and a volunteer worker through summer 2002 at the hospital. She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant brother, and her husband, Arthur T. Simmonds Sr. She is survived by four children, Arthur T. Simmonds Jr. and wife Ellen of Rye, N.H., Charlene S. Freeman and husband Leston of Hamilton, Mass., Jean Lane and Arthur Mills of West Acton, Mass., and William Simmonds and wife Susan of Minneapolis, Minn.; 13 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren. She enjoyed time with her family, crafts and spoiling her grandchildren. She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Arthur J. , 61, of Prospect Street, Bethlehem, passed away Sunday, Jan. 26, 2003 at his home with his family at his side after a long illness. Roland was born May 3, 1941 in Saint Victor, Quebec, Canada, a son of Victorian and Irene (Beudoin) Plante. He worked on his family owned dairy farm while working as a sales representative for de Laval, a farming equipment company. He moved to Irasburg, Vt. in 1973, where he continued to operate a dairy farm for several years. After selling his farm, he worked as a drywall finisher for over 20 years, employed by the Painters and Allied Trades DC 35 in Boston, Mass. Roland was an avid outdoor sportsman. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He is survived by his wife, Vanessa Francis Plante of Bethlehem; one son, Julien Plante of Houston, Texas; three daughters, Lucie Plante Huse of East Thetford, Vt., Danielle Plante Derhs of Los Angeles, Calif., and Monica Plante of Bethlehem; five grandchildren, Amy Woodward, Ryan Huse, Chantal Huse, and Erika and Jason Derhs; his mother, Irene Plante of Saint Victor, Quebec; three sisters, Emilian Drouin, Gisele Isabel and Jeanine Jolicoeur, all of Canada. He was born in St. Johnsbury June 19, 1948, the son of Phillip and Mary Elizabeth (Collins) Villeneuve. He graduated from St. Johnsbury Trade School in 1967. John served in Vietnam from 1967 to 1969 and received two purple hearts. He considered it his responsibility and honor to have served his country. John operated John\'s Plumbing and Heating for 25 years and continued to work during his illness up until December. He was fire chief of the West Burke Volunteer Fire Department and a trustee for the village of West Burke. He is survived by his wife, Jeannette (Laramee) of West Burke; two sons, Thomas J. Villeneuve and wife Maggie of West Burke, and Timothy J. Villeneuve and special friend Emily Barton of Crested Butte, Colo.; one grandson, Dylan Thomas Villeneuve; his father, Phillip Villeneuve of St. Johnsbury; his mother-in-law, Emelia Laramee of West Burke; three brothers, Paul Villeneuve of Waterford, Robert Villeneuve and wife Kathy of St. Johnsbury, and Richard Villeneuve and wife Tracy of St. Johnsbury; three sisters, Joan Soulia and husband Donald of Waltham, Mass., Rosemary Crane and husband Jack of Lunenburg, and Rita Libby and husband Keith of McIndoe Falls; and cousins, nieces, nephews and in-laws. , 56, of Hilltop Road, Littleton, passed away Sunday, Jan. 26, 2003 at her residence, surrounded by her family. She was born in St. Johnsbury March 10, 1946, a daughter to Allen and Rena (Somers) Hooker Sr. Lorraine graduated from Danville High School, Class of 1964. She was a member of the Faith Bible Church Ministry in Littleton. Lorraine enjoyed gardening with a particular favorite of growing flowers. She was an experienced angler of the North Country waters, enjoyed swimming, loved to go camping and berry picking with her nieces and nephews. She had an ear for country music, and loved to dance and karaoke. Survivors include six brothers, Maurice Hooker of Walden, Leslie Hooker of St. Johnsbury, Leon Hooker of Monroe, Ronnie Hooker of St. Johnsbury, Allen Hooker of Danville, and Leland "Lee" Hooker of Concord, Vt.; three sisters, Dorothy Pearson of Hardwick, Eunice Skinner of Concord, and Marjorie Williams of St. Johnsbury; and numerous nephews and nieces. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Jan. 29, at 3:30 p.m., at the Faith Bible Church, 355 Union St., Littleton, with the Rev. Mac Starring officiating. Burial will be in the Glenwood Cemetery, Littleton.

, 70, of Lowell, passed away Monday evening, Jan. 27, 2003, in Burlington, following open heart surgery. He was the beloved husband of the formerly Beverly Armstrong, whom he married March 27, 1954. He was born Oct. 20, 1932 in Lowell, the only child of the late Clayton H. "Bookie" and Florence Souther Hoadley Sr. Clayton attended Lowell Elementary School and graduated from Newport Center High School in 1952. He operated the family farm on Route 100 in Lowell, taking it over from his parents and spending his entire life there. He also did the mail route from Newport to Eden Mills for many years. Clayton held many offices for the town of Lowell, serving on the local school board and the North Country Union High School board, as well as bus driver, tax collector and constable, and he received citations for his many years of service to the town of Lowell and the state of Vermont. He was also very active in the farm organizations, serving as chairman of the Agricultural Stabilization Conservation Service for many years, as a delegate for the United Farmers, and in other offices. Clayton enjoyed playing cards with his family, and enjoyed numerous trips since his retirement, going on many of them with Community Circle, and also going to Rutland to spend time with his sister-in-law, Barbara and Leon Judd. He volunteered his time for the Orleans County Triad. Clayton is survived by his wife of 49 years, Beverly (Armstrong) Hoadley; his children, David Hoadley Sr. and wife Victoria of Lowell, Janice McGuire and husband Stephen of Wilder, Donna Labbee and friend Thomas Deslandes of North Troy, and Nancy Cote and husband Ronald of Newport Center; his grandchildren, David Jr. and Anthony Hoadley, Samantha and Ryan McGuire, Lisa Sargent, Dennis Labbee, Joshua and Trey Therrien and Brittany Cote; five great-grandchildren; many step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his aunt, A. Fern Souther of Burlington; his uncle, Sterling Souther of Hyde Park; and his brothers- and sisters-in-law, Barbara and Leon Judd, Roger and Isabelle Armstrong, Lorene and William Graham, Leonard and June Armstrong, William Armstrong; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. , 75, of Springfield, Vt., died Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003, at home, surrounded by loving family and friends. He was born March 15, 1927, in Rutland, son of Denman and Isabel (Prouty) Davis. Donald attended schools in Springfield, graduating from Springfield High School with the Class of 1945. After high school, he served his country in the U.S. Navy. On Oct. 15, 1955, he married Connie Dwinell of Springfield. Mr. Davis worked for many years at Great Eastern Manufacturing in Springfield; he also worked at Joy Manufacturing in Claremont, and he retired from Belfon Manufacturing in Claremont in 1992. Before falling ill, he enjoyed driving for Kelley Sales and Service and Subaru of Claremont. Donald enjoyed painting, woodworking, camping, hunting, fishing and snowmobiling. He was a deacon of the North Springfield Baptist Church. Donald was a volunteer member of the Springfield Fire Department for 35 years. He was a life member of Springfield VFW Post 771, and a past member and commander of the Proctorsville American Legion. Donald was a member of the Rolling Wheels chapter of Good Sam Camping Association, as well as a past member of the Hawks Mountain Snowmobile Club and the Precision Valley Square Dancing Club. Myers, Fla., and Andrea Valente of Rutland; eight great-grandchildren, Brandon Baillergeon-Davis of Port Angelos, Wash., Jordan and Marissa Davis and Tracie Lott of Claremont, Dillan and Hannah Rose of Fort Myers, Fla., and Alea and Lacey Valente of Rutland; two brothers, George Davis and wife Candy, and Clifford Davis of North Springfield; two sisters, Sheila Nelson of White River Junction, and Pat Wood and husband Dick of West Lebanon, N.H; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents; a brother, Ferris Davis; and a granddaughter, Connie Rose. , 76, died Saturday, Jan. 18, 2003 in Richmond at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Bryant Gile, follwing a brief illness. Norma had been a resident of The Pines in South Burlington prior to her illness. She was born in Lawrence, Mass., May 8, 1926, the only child of the late Percy and Irene V. (Ogden) Hilliard. She graduated from Haverhill High School and attended Lawrence General Hospital School of Nursing prior to her marriage on Oct. 14, 1945, to Roland Ernest Wagner. She and her husband Roland raised Judith and Paul on a small dairy farm in Methuen, Mass. They were the last operating dairy farm in Methuen before moving to Bridport, Vt., to operate a dairy farm with their son Paul. Norma worked for Western Electric for 15 years. More recently she had been a nurse\'s aide and switchboard operator at Porter Hospital in Middlebury for 21 years. The last five years, she had been employed at the Marketing Partnership Agency in Burlington. She greatly enjoyed going to work and the association she shared with such a wonderful group of employees. She thanks them for giving "an old lady" a chance to work. Norma was a talented writer and a member of the Vermont League of Writers. She was the author of many published works. She was an avid reader and an accomplished seamstress. She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Shelburne. She is survived by her two children and their families, Judith Gile and husband Bryant of Richmond, and their four daughters, Norma Jean Gile of Richmond, Lorelei Ferre and husband Scot of Logan, Utah, Martha Muster and husband Daniel of Layton, Utah, and Loretta Gile of Logan, Utah; her son, Paul Wagner and wife Barbara of Bridport, and their children, Jeffrey Wagner and wife Karen of Bridport, Phillip Wagner and wife Katherine of Shelburne, Sarah Ann Wagner of South Burlington; and her two great-grandchildren, Brendan and Anna Wagner of Bridport. She is also survived by her cousins, Tom and George Ogden of Salem, N.H., the Rev. and Mrs. William Atkinson of Meredith, N.H., Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Atkinson of Lawrence, Mass., Mr. and Mrs. Richard Burrington of Hadley, Mass., Mr. and Mrs. John McKenzie of Amesbury, Mass., and Mr. and Mrs. Bing Bickford of Dover, N.H.; many distant cousins; and her many friends at The Pines in South Burlington. She was predeceased by her husband Roland, Feb. 21, 1998. A memorial service was held Saturday, Jan. 25, at 1 p.m., in Trinity Episcopal Church in Shelburne, with a reception following. , 80, of Sheffield, formerly of Needham, MA, died suddenly at his home, Tuesday evening, Jan. 28, 2003. He was born July 28, 1922, in Barton, the son of the late Arthur O. and Carolyn M. (Perry) Austin. Sid graduated from Orleans High School in Orleans, Class of 1940. In 1944 he graduated from Northeastern University in Boston, where he was class president and president of the NEZ fraternity. Later, he served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army Air Corps. In 1962 he received his master\'s degree in education from Northeastern. On Sept. 5, 1953 he married Patricia A. "Pat" White. They lived in Needham, MA, for many years. Sidney worked at Northeastern University for over 30 years, retiring as the dean and director of the Department of Career Development and Placement. He was the founder and first president of the New England Association for Cooperative Education and Field Experience, and was active in several other education groups as well. Sid authored and co-authored books on cooperative education and career development for students and faculty. He had been very active in the Alumni Association at Northeastern, as well as in collegiate and national-level organizations. After retiring to Vermont he and his wife Pat volunteered at the Fairbanks Museum in St. Johnsbury. He was active in democratic town politics in Sheffield, and was an avid woodworker and furniture builder, and even built his own canoe. Sid truly enjoyed spending time with his family at their camp on Long Pond in Westmore. Survivors include his son, David Austin and companion Beverly Jene of Calais; his daughter, Carol Woodard and husband Roland and their children Ethan and Catherine of Sheffield; two brothers, Perry Austin of Orleans, and Warren Austin and wife Lois of Orleans; two brothers-in-law, Thomas White of Ocoee, FL, and William Beaumier of Massachusetts; many nieces and nephews; and his faithful dog "Lady." He was predeceased by his wife, Patricia Austin, in June 2002; two brothers, Robert and Stanley Austin; and his sister, Frances Beaumier. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Feb. 1, at 11 a.m., at the Lyndonville First Congregational Church in Lyndonville, with the Rev. Joan Vincent officiating. Burial in Newton, MA, will be held at the convenience of the family in the spring. , 38, of 100 South St., Littleton, NH died Jan. 29, 2003 at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH, following a sudden illness. She was born in St. Johnsbury, Sept. 29, 1964, a daughter of Fred A. and Sandra J. (Quimby) Page. Karen was a graduate of the Austine School in Brattleboro. For the past four years she was employed at Butson\'s Market in Littleton, working for the bakery department. Karen was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church in Littleton and was a member of the Austine School Alumni Association. Karen was a happy, loving person who enjoyed animals, especially her cat, Tiger. She is survived by her husband, Thomas M. Raymond, whom she married Oct. 5, 1996; her parents, Fred and Sandra Page of Littleton; a sister, Heidi E. Page of Littleton; a brother, Barry M. Page, wife Donna and children Samantha A., Emily J., Grace S. and Josiah P. Page, all of Whitefield; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. A calling hour will be held Friday, Jan. 31, from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m., at Ricker Funeral Home, 1 Birch St., Woodsville, NH. The funeral service will be Saturday, Feb. 1, at 2 p.m., in the funeral home with the Rev. Barbara Thrall, pastor of All Saints Episcopal Church, officiating.
