, 82, of 1255 Main St., East St. Johnsbury, passed away Sunday, March 30, 2003 at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital in St. Johnsbury. She was born April 22, 1920 in Newport, the daughter of the late John and Catherine (Jimmo) Lucas. She was predeceased by her husband, Arthur "Tart" LaBounty, and by her son, Arnold LaBounty. She is survived by her grandson, Todd LaBounty of St. Johnsbury; a brother, Allen Lucas of Newport; three sisters, Anne Tice of Newport, Doris Gray of New York, and Mary Harvey; a sister-in-law, Barbara Powers of St. Johnsbury; and several nieces and nephews. There will be no calling hours. Graveside services will be held Saturday, May 3 at 10 a.m. in the Grove Cemetery in East St. Johnsbury.

, 88, of Center School Road, West Charleston, passed away Monday, March 31, 2003 in Newport. He was born in Charleston, May 25, 1914, the son of Eugene and Mary Jane (Coe) Davis. Dale farmed for many years in West Charleston, as well as maple sugaring there. He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in East Charleston, and enjoyed playing baseball and watching sports. On Oct. 27, 1943 Dale married the former Alice Moulton, who survives him. He is also survived by his children, Marlene Stevens and husband Joseph of Irasburg, Margaret Colburn of Newport, Mark Davis and wife Sherry of Davie, Fla., Martin Davis and wife Genie of East Charleston, Karen Mahoney and husband Brennan of Midlothian, Va., Greta Warner and husband David of Winona Lake, Ind., Kristen Davis of Paulden, Ariz., Fred Davis of West Charleston, and Rod Davis and wife Shirley of Derby; his grandchildren, Richard, Brian and David Stevens, Lena Turmel, Faith Hoffman, Duane and Jason Colburn, Debbie Heald, Julie Gaboriault, Anthony and Annie Davis, Eric and Steven Davis, Jennifer Turgeon, Jamie and David Colburn, Patrick, Michael, Molly and Cassie Mahoney, David, Aaron and Michelle Warner, Heather, Marissa, Corey and Connor Davis; 17 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his two brothers, Harley and Murray, and his sister, Flora Cushman. A memorial service will be held Thursday, April 3, at 11 a.m., at the Plymouth Congregational Church in East Charleston, with the Rev. Richard Smith and David Warner officiating. Spring interment will take place at the Hillside Cemetery in East Charleston. , 69, B.S., D.M.D., F.A.C.D., F.I.C.D., F.A.D.I., of St. Johnsbury, died Monday, March 31, 2003 at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital in St. Johnsbury. He was born in Morrisville, April 18, 1933, the son of Lyle and Pauline Silloway. Fred, with his family, lived in the Tinker House at 2 Main Street in St. Johnsbury until his parents bought a house on Spring Street in 1949. He graduated from St. Johnsbury Academy in 1951. After serving in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956, he earned his bachelor of science from Tufts University in 1957, and his D.M.D. degree, cum laude, from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in 1961. In that same year he returned to St. Johnsbury and established St. Johnsbury Dental Associates Inc. An active professional, Fred was on the faculty of the Harvard Medical School and served as president of the Vermont State Board of Dental Examiners. In addition to his two earned degrees, he has received three honorary degrees in dentistry. He was chairman of the American Board of Dental Examiners as well as the Northeast Regional Board of Dental Examiners, and was responsible to license dentists and dental hygienists in 25 states. While serving on the Northeast Regional Board, Fred was credited with creating CORE, a combined regional examination in dentistry that is now accepted in half the states. Active in civic affairs, Fred was president of St. Johnsbury Academy's Board of Trustees, having served as vice chair and on the Steering Committee for the Academy's "Building on Tradition" Campaign. He served as president and chairman of the Board of Trustees of NVRH and was a trustee emeritus. He was president of the board of trustees of the Fairbanks Museum and was a distinguished Fellow of the museum. He served on the Good Shepherd Catholic School's steering and finance committees and was chairman of the fund drive that assured the permanent position of chaplain at NVRH. Fred also acted as a consultant for the New England AAU Junior Olympic Girls Basketball Program, and was a member of the U.S. Olympic Committee's National Referral Network. He founded the NVRH Dental Emergency Staff and was a charter Vermont member of the American Society of Dentistry for Children. In 1970 he was named the first Environmental Commissioner of Vermont. In 1998, he was honored as the Northeast Kingdom Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year. He was also the recipient of the Northeast Regional Board of Dental Examiners Meritorious Service Award in 1999, the Vermont State Dental Society's Distinguished Service Award in 1998, St. Johnsbury Academy's Dwayne Sherrer Award for Distinguished Service in 1996, and both St. Johnsbury and Vermont Employer of the Year honors in 1992. An avid sportsman, Fred had been active in tennis, sailing, skiing, and was chairman of the Expansion Committee at the St. Johnsbury Country Club, where he guided the addition of the "back nine" to the existing golf course. On Dec. 26, 1954 he married Nilda "Nicky" (St. Hilaire) Silloway of St. Johnsbury, who survives him. Other survivors include three daughters, Deborah A. Silloway Jones, Esq., of St. Johnsbury, Katherine A. Silloway, D.D.S. and husband Gerald Webber of St. Johnsbury, and Kimberly A. Silloway, D.D.S. of Fairfax, Va.; three brothers, Carrol L. Silloway and wife Linere Moodus of Connecticut, Peter R. Silloway of Tampa, Fla., and David A. Silloway of Lyndonville; three grandchildren, Kenton Bennett Jones II, with the U.S. Army in Kuwait, Ashley Ann Jones of Santa Barbara, Calif., and Kaitlin Ann Marie Gingue of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. He was predeceased by his mother, Pauline (Brown) Silloway, Oct. 1, 1991, and his father, Lyle "Tom" Silloway, Oct. 15, 2002. A celebration of life will be held at St. John the Evangelist Church, Friday, April 4, at 11 a.m. There will be no visiting hours. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. , 62, beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, teacher and friend, died at home Monday, March 31. Tim died in the house he built on the farm on which he was born. Tim was born July 22, 1940, to Leland and Zelda Cox Simpson. He loved growing up on the farm with his parents, grandparents, and brothers and sister. He graduated from Lyndon Institute in 1959, where he was an outstanding athlete, playing football, basketball and track. His senior year he won the state meet in half-mile and the javelin. He graduated from the University of Vermont with a bachelor of science degree in 1963 and a master of science degree in 1965. Tim competed in cross country, track and cross country skiing while at UVM and in 1997 was inducted into the UVM Athletic hall of Fame. In 1968 he graduated from Cornell University with a Ph.D. in soil chemistry. After serving two years in the Army at the CRREL in Hanover, N.H., Tim returned to Lyndonville to teach at LI and live on the family farm he loved dearly. On Sept. 1, 1962, he married Sara Jackson. They had three children, Tim, Beth and Susan. One thing that made him especially proud was that he was a father, teacher and coach to all of them. All three of his children are teachers or coaches themselves. Tim taught chemistry and physics and coached cross country and track at LI for 32 years. He was a well-loved teacher, appreciated for his gentle teaching methods and understated wit. He never tired of talking about his love of teaching and the many accomplishments of his students. Twice, Tim took a sabbatical and taught at Hawaii Preparatory Academy on the Big Island of Hawaii. Tim loved the soft winds of Hawaii and returned as often as possible to visit. Tim was a life-long runner and a familiar figure on the roads around Lyndon Center. His after-school runs with LI buddies were one of the many joys of his life. In 2001, Tim won the National Master's Indoor Championship in both the mile (5:15) and 800 meters (2:18). Tim served the community as school board member and selectman and was an active member of the First Congregational Church of Lyndonville. Tim loved the Red Sox, traveling with his family, being with his grandchildren, gardening, painting, beer-making, working on the farm with his father and spending every day with Sara. He is survived by his wife of over 40 years, Sara; their three children, Timothy of Lansing, Mich., Beth and husband Greg Hahr and their three children Molly, Abigail and Meghan of Starksboro, Vt., and Susan and her partner Deborah Lowe of Los Angeles, Calif.; his parents, Leland and Zelda Simpson of Lyndon; his brother Wilder and wife Mary of Lyndon; his sister, Carolyn of Lyndon; his brother, Gilbert and wife Joanne of Guatemala City, Guatemala; and many nieces and nephews. A reception and calling hours will be held at the Lyndon Institute cafeteria from 7-9 p.m., Friday, April 4. At 7:30 p.m., there will be an opportunity for those who knew Tim to share remembrances and remarks. A memorial service will be held at the First Congregational Church in Lyndonville at 1 p.m., Saturday, April 5. , 87, of St. Johnsbury, passed away at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital, Tuesday, April 1, 2003. She made her home with her daughter Jeannie at 217 Concord Ave. She was born in Lunenburg, March 15, 1916, the daughter of Joseph and Rose (Boucher) Fournier. Mrs. Fournier and her husband Gustave farmed on the Noyes-Star Road in Walden until he passed away Sept. 30, 1968. She cooked hot lunch for years at the Noyesville School in Walden. Later Blanche managed the sewing room at the old Brightlook Hospital. After Brightlook Hospital she stitched at the old St. Johnsbury Glovers and at Connors and Hoffman shoe manufacturing in Littleton. She was a parishioner at St. John the Evangelist Church. She kept very busy with craftwork, knitting, crocheting, quilting, and making Christmas ornaments. She is survived by four children, Theresa Tack of Naples, FL, Archie Fournier and wife Marilyn of St. Johnsbury, Regina "Jeannie" Fournier of St. Johnsbury, and Gabriel Fournier and wife Carol of Sumter, SC; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one uncle, Joseph "Pete" Boucher of Dover, NH; two sisters, Leah Houle and husband Frank of Auburn, MA, and Jeannette Lewis of Lunenburg; and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by one sister, Rita Lewis, and three brothers, Archie, Eugene and Adrien Fournier. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, April 5, at 11 a.m., at St. John the Evangelist Church. Committal services will be held in May at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. , 33, of Tucson, AZ, passed away unexpectedly from respiratory failure, Sunday, March 9, 2003, in Bangkok, Thailand. Born in Glens Falls, NY, May 30, 1969, he was the beloved son of John H. Saliba of Bethlehem, NH, and Catherine R. Saliba of East Brunswick, NJ, who survive him. John had an insatiable appetite for the outdoors and adventure travel, which led to his founding of WorldTrek Expeditions Inc. in 1996. With a core focus on mountain biking, and a mix of white water rafting, kayaking and diving, John entertained his new and many repeat clients on tours of his personal design to exotic venues throughout the world. In these endeavors he acquired a special fondness for Honduras, as well as Thailand and Copper Canyon, Mexico. John attended Carrabassett Valley Academy, Carrabassett Valley, Maine, skiing competitively with the Alpine Team and graduating with the Class of 1987. He received his bachelor of arts degree at Colorado College, Class of 1991, and earned a master of international management degree in 1994 at Thunderbird -- The American Graduate School of International Management. In addition to his parents, John is survived by two sisters, Mary C. Saliba of Bethlehem, and Wendy and husband Robert Leonard of Rockville Center, NY, and their four children, Avery, Mason, Davis and Selden; an uncle, Robert M. Saliba of Barre; an aunt, Margaret Bacigalupo of Hyannisport, MA; cousins and many close friends. He was predeceased by his grandparents, Henry and Irma Saliba of Barre, and Douglas and Hanna Ring of Red Bank, NJ. A memorial gathering of John's friends, clients, and immediate family to celebrate his life was held March 22 at his home in Tucson. An interment service will follow at a later date at Hope Cemetery in Barre. , 48, of Birchwood Drive, Derby, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, Thursday, April 3, 2003, in Lebanon, NH. She was born in Holland, Nov. 30, 1954, the daughter of Gaston and Rita (Veilleux) Lefebvre. On Aug. 21, 1976 Sylvie married William "Bill" Riley Worth, who survives her. Sylvie was a 1973 graduate of North Country Union High School and a 1975 graduate of Fannie Allen Nursing School, earning an LPN degree. She later received a degree in respiratory therapy. She worked at North Country Hospital as an LPN and respiratory therapist, then at Keene Medical as a respiratory care consultant, traveling in northern Vermont and New Hampshire where care was needed. Most recently she was the office manager at Worth's Seamless Rain Gutters with her husband. Sylvie was a member of St. Edward's Catholic Church in Derby Line and was very involved with church activities. She was also a past school board member of Sacred Heart School. Sylvie enjoyed buying and restoring antiques, skiing, and gardening. Besides her husband, Sylvie is survived by her children, Lisa Cheryl Brown and husband Kristopher of Hyde Park, Justin Riley Worth of Belleville, IL, and Ryan Jonathan Worth of Derby; her grandson, Ethan William Brown of Hyde Park; her parents, Gaston and Rita Lefebvre of Newport; her siblings, Andre Lefebvre and wife Sherry of Morgan, Yvon Lefebvre and wife Gerri of Clarksville, NH, Robert Lefebvre and wife Mindy of Hartland, Denise Sykes and husband Ken of Morgan, Raymond Lefebvre and wife Lisa of Sterling, VA, Lynn Petry and husband Damien of New London, NH, and Mark Lefebvre of Georgia, VT; her father-in-law, Cyril Worth of Derby; her brothers-in-law, Greg Worth and wife Anne of Hyde Park, and Jeff Worth of Essex; her sister-in-law, Cheryl Marandola and husband Richard of St. Johnsbury; aunts, uncles, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. , 76, of Lancaster, died suddenly, Saturday morning, April 5, 2003, at his home on Elm Street. Mr. Allin was born in Groveton, June 11, 1926, the son of Charles and Madolyn (Gray) Allin. He attended schools in Groveton and Lancaster and went on to serve with the U.S. Army in the European Theater during World War II. Returning home he married Roberta Wright of Lancaster. For 33 years he was employed in the testing lab at Gilman Paper Company, Gilman, Vt. Roberta predeceased him Dec. 21, 1988. He later married Elelia (Frechette) Courser of Littleton. Family members include his wife Elelia of Lancaster; two sons John Allin and wife Pauline of Lancaster, and Thomas Allin of Cornish; a daughter, Cynthia Hatfield and husband Charles of Whitefield; four step-sons, Glen Courser and wife Kathy of Littleton, Kenneth Courser and wife Margaret of Dunbar, Pa., Dwight Courser and wife Cindy of Athol, Mass., and Neil Courser and wife Dottie of Manchester; two step-daughters, Jean Davison of Antrim, N.H., and Catherine Burgess and husband Steve of North Conway, N.H.; a brother, Charles and wife Harriet of Lancaster; and many grandchildren. He was also predeceased by a brother, Merle Allin of Lancaster; a stepson Daniel Courser of Jaffrey, N.H., and a stepdaughter, Sheila Courser of San Francisco, Calif. At Stuart's request there will be no visiting hours or funeral service. Burial in Summer Street Cemetery, Lancaster, will be held at the convenience of the family.

92, of Island Pond, passed away Tuesday, April 1, 2003, following complications from heart surgery performed the previous day at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington. She was born Sept. 11, 1910 in Norton, Vt., the second daughter of Mamie and Joseph Haley, both natives of Norton. They owned and managed a small dairy farm on the Averill road until the early 1940s. Sally, as she was fondly known, attended Brighton High School and graduated in 1928. In 1938 she married David Stafford of Island Pond. They owned two successive grocery stores, working together for 30 years. Sally personified the Northeast Kingdom's spirit of self-reliance and kindness toward her fellow man, regardless of circumstance. She will be remembered for her vitality and generosity of spirit. She will be sorely missed by her family and the community of Island Pond, especially her dear friends at Sunrise Manor. She is survived by two loving daughters, Ann Stafford of Essex Junction and Susan Moeykens of St. Albans; a son-in-law, Leopold Moeykens; a niece, Nancy Gilmond; a nephew, Jim McWain; and four grandchildren, Janet Salvadore of Cumming, Ga., Dr. Michael Moeykens of Taylor Mill, Ky., Christopher Moeykens of Eagle, Colo., and Joseph Moeykens of Crested Butte, Colo.; and three great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband David in 1980; her son Michael in 1965; her sister Bertha; and her brother-in-law, Morris McWain. A Catholic funeral will be held at St. James the Greater Church in Island Pond, Saturday morning, April 5, at 11 a.m., followed by a luncheon at the Sunrise Manor. There will be no visiting hours. A burial service is being planned for later in the spring. Marie and her husband Francis lived in Fairbanks, Alaska, for many years before moving to Maine in 1980 for retirement. Marie had spent the past two years at the Narraguagus Bay Health Care Facility in Milbridge, Maine. She is survived by her husband Francis, who resides at the Narraguagus Bay Health Care Facility, Milbridge, Maine; a son, Louis Turco, a grandson, Sean Turco, and a grandniece, Manina, all of Fairbanks, Alaska; two brothers, Willis Fields of Hancock, Maine, and John Fields and wife Maureen, and many nieces and nephews, all of Anchorage, Alaska. Graveside services will be held in the spring at Evergreen Cemetery in Milbridge, Maine.

, 86, of 381 Route 3 South, Twin Mountain, N.H., died Wednesday, April 2, 2003, at Littleton Regional Hospital, surrounded by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was born in Worcester, Mass., a daughter of Edward and Eliza (Morin) St. Martin. She married George Brodeur on Oct. 12, 1936. She and her husband lived in Worcester and Hopkinton, Mass., prior to retiring to Twin Mountain in 1972. Together they owned and operated Hilltop Cottages in Twin Mountain for many years. Ruth was an active communicant of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Twin Mountain, and the Twin Mountain Snowmobile Club. She was predeceased by her husband George in 1978. She is survived by three sons, George and Georgia Brodeur of Twin Mountain, Gerald and Judith Brodeur of Las Vegas, Nev., and Joseph and Paula Brodeur of Hooksett, N.H.; one daughter, Suzanne and Richard DuBois of Chandler, Ariz.; 15 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Ross Funeral Home, Whitefield Chapel, on Friday, April 4, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Patrick's Church, Twin Mountain, Saturday at 11 a.m. with Father George Majka officiating. , 84, of Hardwick, died Wednesday, April 2, 2003, at the Copley Hospital in Morrisville. He was born March 6, 1919 in Craftsbury, the son of the late Arthur L. and Lou (Chadbourne) Chase. He attended Craftsbury public schools and graduated from Craftsbury Academy, Class of 1937. On June 10, 1941 he married Mary Emily Marckres in Albany. He and his family moved to Hardwick in 1951, where he has since made his home. He entered the U.S. Army in July 1944. He served his country in France, Germany, Italy and Belgium. While in Germany his duties consisted of guarding World War II prisoners Rudolph Hess and Herman Goering for the U.S. He was honorably discharged in May 1946. Kenneth was employed in the granite industry in Barre for many years. He specialized in carving roses on monuments. He retired in 1981. He was affiliated with the United Church of Hardwick. He was a member of the Caspian Lake Lodge 87 F & AM of Hardwick, the VFW Post 7779 of Hyde Park, and the American Legion Post 7 of Hardwick. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, and the time he spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include a daughter, Aleta Akerlind and husband Jack of Craftsbury; two sons, Arthur Chase and wife Alice, and Alton Chase and wife Melody, all of Hardwick; a brother, Linwood "Pete" Chase and wife Rolinda "Dinny" of Irasburg; five grandchildren, Brenda Gravel of Wolcott, Denis Chase of Hardwick, Mary Akerlind of Johnson, Michael Akerlind of Fairfax, and Levi Chase of Hardwick; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his wife Mary in 2001; and by three sisters, Veda, Edith and Florence. There will be no public visiting hours. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 5, at 11 a.m., at the United Church of Hardwick. Burial will be later in the spring, in the family lot in the East Craftsbury Cemetery. 53, of 8 King Street, Woodsville, died Thursday, April 3, 2003 in Concord, N.H., following an extended illness. He was born in Nashua, N.H., May 3, 1949, a son of John A. and Barbara (Atwood) Roden Sr. He graduated from Woodsville High School, Class of 1967, attended New Hampshire Boys State, and Berlin Technical College. Jack worked for a brief period with the FBI in Washington, several years for the U.S. Postal Service in Woodsville, and for several years as a health-care provider. Survivors include two daughters, Jennifer Tuttle of Newbury, Vt., and Meghan A. Riggie of Woodsville; five grandchildren; his father, John A. Roden Sr. of North Haverhill; three brothers, Scott E. Roden and Bradley K. Roden, both of Benton, N.H., and Jeffrey D. Roden of North Conway, N.H.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Jack was predeceased by his mother, Feb. 5, 1997. , 48, of Birchwood Drive, Derby, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, Thursday, April 3, 2003, in Lebanon, N.H. She was born in Holland, Nov. 30, 1954, the daughter of Gaston and Rita (Veilleux) Lefebvre. On Aug. 21, 1976 Sylvie married William "Bill" Riley Worth, who survives her. Sylvie was a 1973 graduate of North Country Union High School and a 1975 graduate of Fannie Allen Nursing School, earning an LPN degree. She later received a degree in respiratory therapy. She worked at North Country Hospital as an LPN and respiratory therapist, then at Keene Medical as a respiratory care consultant, traveling in northern Vermont and New Hampshire where care was needed. Most recently she was the office manager at Worth's Seamless Rain Gutters with her husband. Sylvie was a member of St. Edward's Catholic Church in Derby Line and was very involved with church activities. She was also a past school board member of Sacred Heart School. Sylvie enjoyed buying and restoring antiques, skiing, and gardening. , 77, of Littleton, passed away Thursday, April 3, 2003, at Littleton Regional Hospital after a brief illness. She was born in Ellenboro, N.C., Dec. 1, 1925, a daughter of Troy F. and Prudence (Whisnant) Green. Mrs. Knopf graduated from high school in Ellenboro, N.C. She entered into a longtime career as an operator with the telephone company. She lived in Milford, Conn., prior to moving to Littleton in 1976. Betty volunteered her time as a volunteer at Littleton Regional Hospital, past officer of the Littleton Garden Club, member of the Howard Shawney Post 816 Ladies Auxiliary, and a member of the Grafton County Extension. She was also a member of the Genealogical Society of Old Trion County, N.C., as well as various other genealogical societies. Betty was well-known for her passions as an avid gardener, taking great pride in her creations. Family members include her husband, Bertram Knopf of Littleton; one daughter, Elizabeth Moreau of Saco, Maine; four brothers, Charles L. Green of Aiken, S.C., Ray F. Green of Ellenboro, N.C., Lawson "Jack" Green of Ellenboro, N.C., and Thomas W. Green of Shelby, N.C.; and one sister, Mary "Ruth" Carver of Asheville, N.C. One brother predeceased her. , 62, of Lyndon, died at her home with her family at her side, Saturday evening, April 5, 2003. She was born Jan. 7, 1941 in St. Johnsbury, a daughter of the late Joseph R. and Charlene (Fenoff) Fenoff. Doreen was a graduate of Mount St. Joseph Academy in St. Johnsbury. In recent years Doreen operated her own business cleaning homes and offices in the St. Johnsbury and Lyndon area. Prior to that she worked for over 15 years at Hovey's Shops in St. Johnsbury, and before that at Zayre Department Store in St. Johnsbury. Doreen was active in the Moose Club in St. Johnsbury and was a former senior regent there. She enjoyed working in her flower and vegetable gardens, making crafts, and spending time with family and friends, as well as her three dogs and her parrot. Survivors include her husband, Donald "Rocky" Larocque III of Lyndon; four sons, Maurice Allen and wife Patti of Sheffield, Thomas Villeneuve and wife Donna of Waterford, Terry Jones and wife Michelle of Walker, Mich., and Toby Larocque and fiancee Sarah Passage of Milton; four daughters, Debora Turner of Key West, Fla., Tammie Legendre and husband Robert of Mesa, Ariz., Tracy Dorey and husband Jeff of Milton, and Tammy Munn and husband Matt of Fairfield; 10 grandchildren; four brothers and their wives, Joseph and Carol Fenoff of Florida, Charles and Janet Fenoff of St. Johnsbury Center, Jerry and Judy Fenoff of St. Johnsbury, and Douglas and Diane Fenoff of Atlanta, Ga.; two sisters, Virginia Collins and husband Rodney of Concord, and Maggie Hastings and husband Ernest of Lyndonville; many nieces, nephews and friends; also her close friend and mother-in-law, Mona Larocque of St. Johnsbury; and special friends, Shawn and Terry Stevens and their children of St. Johnsbury. , USAF (Ret.), 72, of 58 Pleasant St., Eliot, Maine, passed away Friday, April 4, 2003, at Portsmouth, N.H. Regional Hospital. He was born in St. Johnsbury, Aug. 10, 1930, the son of Harold and Eva (Hines) Gadapee. He was a graduate of St Johnsbury Vocational Technical Trade School, Class of 1949, and was a supporter of the St. Johnsbury Academy Alumni Association. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He retired from the 509th OMS (SAC) at Pease Air Force Base in 1972 with 21 years of service. He had been a resident of Eliot since 1971. After his retirement from the Air Force he operated Gadapee Lawn and Garden Equipment Repair Service and Coastland Dog Grooming for many years. He was an avid golfer and gardener, enjoyed fishing and had a great fondness of nature and animals. His strong interest in reading and history led him to do extensive research on his family genealogy. He was a member of the American Legion Post 273 in Madeira Beach, Fla., and a longtime supporter of the Air Force Enlisted Foundation. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Joyceline (Garand) Gadapee; two sons, Dean Gadapee of Dover, N.H., and Graydon Gadapee Jr. of Eliot; two daughters, Bonnie Morris of South Berwick, Maine, and Deborah McClintock of Tennessee; four grandchildren, Robert Morris, Cara Gadapee, Sean Gadapee, and Rhonda McClintock; three brothers, Gordon Gadapee of Naples, Fla., Glendon Gadapee of East Haven,Vt., and Gary Gadapee of East Ryegate, Vt.; one sister, Edna Simons of St Johnsbury; and numerous nieces and nephews. He worked as a Geriatric Social Worker for the states of Vermont and New Hampshire for many years, retiring in 1995 due to ill health. Rhody enjoyed tinkering on his Fiat sports car, writing poetry, animals and Superman. He had belonged to the Littleton Elks Club. , 81, of Berlin, NH, formerly of Jefferson, died suddenly, Wednesday morning, April 9, 2003, at the Androscoggin Valley Hospital in Berlin. Mr. Boutin was born in Quebec, Canada, June 27, 1921, the son of Jules and Julia Boutin. Lucien moved to Jefferson in the 1950s while working on the Portland Pipeline installation. There he met and married Theresa O. Bilodeau. Residing in Jefferson for most of his life, he worked as a self-employed logger. Theresa predeceased him on March 26, 1989. He has resided for the past two years in Berlin. He was a member and former deacon of the Lancaster Assembly of God. He was also a member of the Odd Fellows. He enjoyed gardening and cutting wood. Family members include his son, Charles L. Boutin of Jefferson; four daughters, Claire J. Girouard of Jefferson, Annette I. Boutin of Salisbury Center, NY, Claudette A. Ball of Middlefield, OH, and Pauline M. Horion of Brattleboro; and 13 grandchildren. A daughter, Rita Boutin, also predeceased him. , 98, of Newport, passed away in Newport Wednesday, April 9, 2003. He was born July 21, 1904 in Lynn, MA, the son of William and Margaret Spates. He moved from Lynn in 1945 to establish Spates the Florist with his wife Eleanor. They retired from the business in 1973. Frank was an active member and past president of the Newport Chamber of Commerce and past president and lifetime member of the Newport Kiwanis Club. He served on the Newport City Council from 1968 to 1971 and was elected mayor of Newport in 1971, serving until 1974. In 1975 he was elected as a representative to the Vermont State Legislature, and served there until 1981. Frank was an avid reader and a diehard fisherman, who was often found on the railroad bridge at the crack of dawn casting his line. Frank was predeceased by his wife Eleanor in 1991, shortly after celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary. He leaves his children, Betty-Jane Durkee of Tequesta, FL; Frank H. Spates Jr. and wife Jeannette of Derby, Joyce Stanwood and husband Jay of Newport, Bill Spates and wife Hilda of Lynn, MA, and Doug Spates and wife Vivian of Newport; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was totally disabled and a little angel in all our eyes. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. After he retired from the military he worked as a warehouse supervisor for Maple Grove Farms in St. Johnsbury. , 67, of Littleton, passed away Wednesday, April 16, 2003, at the Lafayette Center in Franconia, N.H. after a 21/2-year courageous battle with small cell carcinoma. Kathleen was born at her grandparent's home in Lincoln, N.H., Dec. 14, 1935, a daughter to Charles and Ruth (Simonds) Kallum. She attended Lincoln Public Schools and graduated from Lincoln High School. Kathleen received her degree in 1957 from Plymouth Teacher's College. Kathleen spent her college summers working at the Flume in Franconia Notch, where she met her husband, David. In 1961 they moved to Littleton, where they raised their three children, Diane, Kathy and David Jr. Kathleen was a loving wife and mother who enjoyed sewing, cooking and looking after the "Grove Street Gang" family. Some of Kathleen's fondest memories included summers at Partridge Lake and winter weekends on the slopes of Mt. Eustis or Cannon Mountain learning to ski with her children. In the mid-70's Kathleen started substitute teaching in the Littleton Public School System. She later took a position with the N.H. Dept. of Employment Security, where she retired after 14 years of service. During her retirement years, Kathleen volunteered many hours with the Center for New Beginnings and various other civic organizations. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, swimming in the Pemigewasset with her twin sister Helen, painting and gardening. Surviving family members include a son, David E. Harris Jr., daughter-in-law, Terri, and a grandson, Ryan of Marblehead, Mass.; a daughter, Diane Cocchiarella, son-in-law, Claude, granddaughter, Kristin, and grandson, Robbie of Niceville, Fla.; and a twin sister, Helen Gilman of North Woodstock, N.H. He spent countless hours playing catch with his brother, Steven, where he developed a great talent for pitching. He attended Franklin High School where he was quarterback for the varsity football team, and he went on to be a player in the Vermont New Hampshire Shrine Team. Roland especially excelled as a pitcher for the varsity baseball team. He graduated from Franklin High School in 1980, and attended the University of New Hampshire where he earned a bachelor's degree in economics, graduating with honors. Roland was well read and had a great appreciation for classical authors and composers. He was a generous and caring man; he loved animals and volunteered at the humane society. He was a devoted and caring son, showing his selflessness in caring for his ailing father. His surviving family members and friends will sorely miss him. Roland, known as "Petey" or "Pete" to most, worked at the Lakes Regional Medical Center Hospital following graduation from college, until he was disabled, due to an injury. He then devoted his time to volunteering and taking care of his Dad during his illness. Survivors include his brother and wife, Steven P. and Vera DuBois and family; a sister, Donna M. , 72, of East St. Johnsbury, passed away Sunday, April 20, 2003, at his residence. He was born May 27, 1930, in Cabot, the son of the late Myrle K. and Hortence Drew. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked in the lumber business for many years, and then in the retail grocery business at Goodwin's General Store. He is survived by his wife, Gloria (Goodwin) Utley of East St. Johnsbury; his three children and their spouses, Michael and Sandra Utley of Carver, Mass., Carmon and Bob Alberghini of Carver, Mass., and Kenrick and Bobbi Utley of West Burke; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was raised on a farm in Island Pond and was a graduate of Brighton High School. She retired from Pine Knoll Nursing Home after 30 years. Altha enjoyed her home and family and looked forward to the Bingham birthday lunches and reunions. Altha is survived by her husband of 31 years, Edward F. , 88, a lifelong resident of Hardwick, died Monday morning, April 21, 2003, at Copley Hospital in Morrisville. She was born Dec. 13, 1914, in Frampton, Quebec, Canada, the daughter of Divilia and Elodie (Patoine) Bruchu. Lucie was a communicant of St. Norbert's Church and a member for over 50 years of Court St. Veronica Catholic Daughters of America 1273. For many years Lucie was employed at the Vermont State Hospital in Waterbury. She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Menard, Aug. 23, 1963. Survivors include her sons, Louis, Paul, Rene and Raymond Menard; her daughters, Madeleine Beauregard, Claire Stanley and Georgette Brochu; her brothers, Gerard Brochu, Eugene Brochu, Jean Brochu and Jacques Brochu; her sisters, Yvette Daneault, Bertha Varnum, Denise LaMonda, Pauline Cormier and Gisele Guillet; 31 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Lucie was also predeceased by her son Roland and brothers Louis, Paul, Edouard and Michael. , 73, of Union Street, Littleton, passed away Monday, April 21, 2003, at Littleton Regional Hospital after a brief illness. She was born June 23, 1929, in Colebrook, N.H., a daughter of Edward and Gerry (Woods) Pouparg. Ruth was a charter member of the Littleton Eagles Club 2629, where she had served as president more than five times during her tenure, along with serving a term as the state president for the Eagles Auxiliary. She was also a member of the Howard Shawney Post 816 Women's Auxiliary. Ruth worked several years at the Henschel Shoe Company. Surviving family members include her husband, Walter Morton Sr. of Littleton; four sons, Walter Morton Jr. of Whitefield, Terry Morton of Lisbon, Larry Morton of Newton, N.H., and Danny Morton of Methuen, Mass.; three daughters, Theresa Abbott of Methuen, Mass., Donna Ash of Bradford, Mass., and Penny Van Coppenolle of Newton, Mass.; three sisters, Joan Bigelow and Betty Folsom, both of Boscawen, N.H., and Josephine Bonapharte of Allenstown, N.H.; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. , 83, died Tuesday, April 1, 2003, at her winter estate in Parrish, Fla. She was born Sept. 27, 1919, in St. Johnsbury, the daughter of Theodore W. and Julia S. Chase of St. Johnsbury. Lib graduated from St. Johnsbury Academy, Class of 1938. She was a graduate of Wheelock College in Boston, Mass., Class of 1942. On June 8, 1942, she married John T. Baxter of Waban, Mass. She was a teacher for several years and a store manager while traveling during her husband's service in the U.S. Army. For 83 years, Lib was a summer resident of Joe's Pond, and enjoyed gardening, swimming and reading. She was a lifelong member of North Congregational Church in St. Johnsbury, and also a member of the Eastern Star. Lib is survived by her husband of 61 years, Col. John T. Baxter, U.S. Army (Ret.); one son, John T. Baxter II of Bradenton, Fla.; two daughters, Cynthia A. Decker of Owensboro, Ky., and Marcia Baxter Young of Parrish, Fla.; four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held this summer, with details to be announced. Burial will be in the family lot in the Passumpsic Cemetery. , 74, of Page Road, Campton, N.H., passed away peacefully, Sunday, April 20, 2003, at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston with his family beside him. He was born July 12, 1928, in Exeter, N.H., the son of Fred Dearborn and Betty (Quimby) Dearborn Brown. His early years were spent in Raymond, N.H., where he attended elementary school. He attended Littleton High School and graduated from Lebanon High School in 1946. He was a forestry major at Paul Smith's College, Paul Smith, N.Y., graduating in 1950. Mr. Dearborn was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in Japan after World War II. He worked for the New England Forestry Foundation and the Draper Corporation in Beebe River as a licensed forester, from 1950 to 1970. He was vice president of woodland operations at Wagner Woodlands in Lyme from 1970 to 1980. He was a self-employed timberland investment consultant and practiced as a forester from 1980 to 1993. He was a wood fuel procurement forester for North Country Procurement from 1993 until his retirement in August 2002. Mr. Dearborn was instrumental in the operation of the Woodman's Field Day at the Plymouth State Fair for several years. He was a licensed New Hampshire real estate broker. He was a licensed land surveyer. He was a member of the Society of American Foresters since 1956 and was past director of the Timberland Owner's Association of New Hampshire, and was named the outstanding forester of New Hampshire in 1983. Survivors include three sons, Steven Dearborn of Plymouth, N.H., Thomas Dearborn of Charlotte, N.C., and Daniel Dearborn of Boston; five daughters, Ellen Dearborn, Janet Dearborn and Gail Beaulieu, all of Plymouth, Deborah Dearborn of Thornton, N.H., and Karen Currier of Holderness, N.H.; 18 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two half-brothers, Paul Brown of Raymond, N.H., and David Dearborn of Rumford, Maine; one sister, Margaret Whitcomb of St. Johnsbury; aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews; his close friend, Christine Wilkie of Campton, N.H.; and his former wife, Judith (Jackson) Dearborn of Holderness, N.H. , 76, died peacefully at home in St. Johnsbury, Monday, April 21, 2003. He was born June 20, 1926, in Queens, N.Y., only because that is where his father and mother, Peter and Elizabeth Gray, were; otherwise he would have chosen to be born in Walden, Vt. Peter served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II in the South Pacific and later in North China and Korea. Coming home, he apprenticed and became, according to his friends, one of the best-loved architects in New York. Peter came to Walden to go fishing one day, fell in love with the land and in 1952 proudly bought the old Wiggins schoolhouse there, only returning to New York when he had to work. He gave much of his time and professional work to helping others, and was a member of the Danville United Methodist Church. Peter is survived by his wife, Lynda; his sister, Vera Genoa of New York; a son, Peter; a daughter, Ellen and husband Paul; and two grandchildren. A memorial service for Peter will be held Tuesday, April 29 at 2 p.m. at the Danville United Methodist Church in Danville.

, 78, of Sartwell Place, Whitefield, passed away Wednesday, April 16, 2003, at Littleton Regional Hospital following a short illness. He was born in Bethlehem, a son of Forrest and Leola (Virde) Huntoon. He grew up in Bethlehem and spent most of his adult life in the Whitefield area. He was a dedicated worker and was last employed in the maintenance department at Littleton Regional Hospital. He is survived by a son, Wayne Huntoon of Chocorua, N.H.; two daughters, Patricia Harris of St. Johnsbury, and Lila Reis of Punta Gorda, Fla.; five grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and a brother, Nathan Huntoon of Whitefield. , 65, of Bailey Road, Jefferson, N.H., died Wednesday morning, April 23, 2003 at Weeks Medical Center, Lancaster. Mr. Dingman was born May 26, 1937 in West Stewartstown, N.H., the son of Lawrence R. and Marguerite (Covey) Dingman. Albert was raised in and lived throughout the North Country his entire life. For 17 years he and his family lived in Northumberland, where he was employed at A.J. Marshall & Son's dairy farm much of that time. They later moved to Jefferson and purchased the Reed Farm, which he operated for 18 years. For the last 11 years of his working life he was employed with Groveton Paper Board. He retired there in 2000. He was a member of the Eastern Artificial Insemination Corp., based in New York. He enjoyed children, farming, fishing, hunting, and outdoor life. Family members include his wife, Jean (Hopps) Dingman of Jefferson; six sons, Bruce A. Dingman and Clarence O. Dingman, both of Lancaster, Francis W. Dingman of Jefferson, David A. Dingman of Sheffield, Vt., Al L. Dingman of Groveton, and Jonathon P. Dingman of Jefferson; a daughter, Beverly A. Rich of Lunenburg, Vt.; a brother, Don Dingman of Oklahoma; three sisters, Helen Snelling of Illinois, Rose Gonyer of Jefferson, and Ethel Newland of Lyndonville, Vt.; 14 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Ronald Dingman and Gordon Dingman; and a sister, Victoria Goodwin. , 54, of Bethlehem, N.H., died Thursday, April 24, 2003, in St. Johnsbury, surrounded by her family, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born in Lincoln, N.H., Nov. 20, 1948, she was the daughter of Bertha (Wells) Tattersall and stepfather Joseph Tewksbury. Rose attended Littleton High School and married George Clinton Ennis Jr. on Feb. 4, 1967, in Littleton, N.H. At the time of her death she was employed at New England Wire Company, and had previously worked for several years at Sweetwood Brush Handle Company. As a member of the Bethlehem Women's Civic Club she was appointed as the treasurer for several years. Rose enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, friends and family. She was also very fond of animals. In addition, she took pleasure in shopping, bingo and country living. Survivors include Rose's former husband, George, of Morrisville; a daughter, Lori Boisclair of St. Johnsbury; a son, Randy Ennis of Littleton, Colo.; two grandchildren; Patrick and Garrett Boisclair; and her sisters, Linda Emery of Lisbon, N.H., Marion Whitcomb of Littleton, and Emily Kinne of Bethlehem. She was predeceased by two sisters, Arlene Shawney and Betty Veilleux. Graveside services and interment will be held Monday, April 28 at 11 a.m. at the St. Rose Cemetery in Littleton.

, 48, of Glover, passed away in St. Johnsbury Thursday, April 24, 2003, surrounded by his family. He was born in Sheffield, Feb. 13, 1955, the son of Joel and Rosalind (Blair) Mason. Ray worked as a truck driver for the Acro Redi-Mix. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his son, Lucian. He also liked to play horseshoes and cards with his friends and particularly enjoyed his grandchildren. He was a friend to everyone he met and had a very infectious and distinctive laugh. He also derived great pleasure from his animals. Ray is survived by his son, Lucian Mason and Dawn Daniels of Irasburg; his grandchildren, Matthew Mason of Irasburg and Haley Allen of Charleston; his brother, Leroy Mason of Barton; his sister-in-law, Grace Mason of Barton; his sisters, Simone Mason of Glover, Paulette Noyes and Byron Moore of Waterford, and Lorraine Williams and husband Donald of Waterford; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter, Casie Mason, in 1999, and by his parents, Joel and Rosalind Mason. , 86, of East Street, Lyndonville, died Thursday afternoon, April 24, 2003, while at the Pines Rehabilitation and Health Center in Lyndon. She was born July 27, 1916 in St. Johnsbury, the daughter of the late Oscar and Eva (Laliberty) Lavigne. In 1934 she married Wilfred McClure. He predeceased her on Oct. 16, 1994. She was also predeceased by her three sisters. Survivors include three sons, Leo McClure and wife Joanne of Hudson, N.H., Roland McClure and wife Louise of Lyndonville, and Norman McClure of Lyndonville; a daughter, Carolyn Gardner and husband Leonard of Lyndonville; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; two special friends, Shirley and Trudy Aiken of Lyndonville; and close neighbors, Carol and Ed Fregosi. Mrs. McClure was a member of the St. Elizabeth Church and active in the Altar Society there for many years. She was also active in her neighborhood Doll Club. Sewing, quilting, craft making and spending time on her gazebo swing with neighbors and friends brought her great enjoyment. She was always willing to help and feed anyone in need. , 67, of Uncasville, Conn., died Thursday, April 24, 2003 at W.W. Backus Hospital, after a long, courageous battle with cancer. Mr. Parker was born in Lyndonville, Nov. 23, 1935, the son of the late Francis F. and Prudence (Gilman) Parker. He moved from Vermont to Eastern Connecticut to work at Electric Boat after being honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy, having served on the U.S.S. Wren. Mr. Parker was retired from the Ironworkers Local 15. Among his many achievements was the construction of the New River Gorge Bridge in West Virginia, the world's largest single span bridge; he was also involved in the construction of the Gold Star Bridges. Parker was a trustee of V.F.W. Post 10060 in Uncasville. He was an avid sportsman and member of the Norwich Golf Course Senior League. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Lorraine (Rowley) Parker; four daughters and their spouses, Karen and Ed Nunes of Oakdale, Conn., Valerie Foley and fiancee Gerald Bernier of Niantic, Conn., Deborah and John Lenhart of Oakdale, and Lisa and William Dawley of Norwichtown, Conn.; his brother and sister-in-law, Stillman and Lyse Parker of Lyndonville; and three granddaughters, Cara Campbell, Mayline Nunes and Jackie Lenhart. He was predeceased by his son, Francis J. She attended Greensboro School, was a member of St. Norbert's Church in Hardwick, Court St. Veronica Catholic Daughters of America, a longtime member of American Legion Post 7 Ladies Auxiliary and Morrisville VFW Post 9653 Ladies Auxiliary. Joyce had been employed by Wearknitters of Hardwick, and later at Hardwick Elementary and Hazen Union, where she retired as head cook. She enjoyed flowers, visiting with people, winters in Florida, crocheting and family gatherings. Joyce was the devoted wife of Albert Bellavance for 48 years. , 76, of Orleans, died Friday, April 25, 2003 in Newport. He was born June 7, 1926 in Irasburg, a son of Walter and Muriel (House) Tarbox. On Aug. 21, 1946 he married Daisy Sanderson, who survives him. He owned and operated his own dairy farm in Orleans for many years. Mr. Tarbox was a self-employed tax preparer for many years. He was the former National President for FFA during his senior year of high school, and held memberships with the Northeast Kingdom Horsemans Association, Vermont Real Estate Board, Vermont Tax Practitioners Association, treasurer of the Orleans Federated Church, and he was an auctioneer. He is survived by his wife, Daisy Tarbox of Orleans; his children, Neal Tarbox and wife Judy of Massanutten, Va., Mark Tarbox and wife Sharon of Derby, Kim Haley and husband Brian of Orleans, and Terri Brown and husband David of Forest, Va.; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two brothers, Walter Tarbox of Coventry, and Carlton Tarbox of Orleans; a sister, Arlene Cummings of Orleans; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Milton Tarbox. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 29, at 2 p.m., at the Orleans Federated Church, with the Rev. Bruce Forbes officiating. , 56, of Jupiter Island, Fla., went home with our lord, unexpectedly, Thursday, April 17, 2003. He was born in St. Johnsbury, June 29, 1946. He graduated from St. Johnsbury Academy in 1964. His grandparents, Frank and Mabel Goss, raised him. He was a bellhop at St. Johnsbury House and a manager of the Shop & Save. He lived in New York for a short time before moving to Jupiter Island Club in Florida. He worked in the summers at Fisher's Island Club in New York. He had been at those places for 18 years. The people he worked with made his life a very good one. He was very fond of all. He loved hunting and fishing with his grandfather and his friends. He belonged to the Union Baptist Church of Waterford. He also loved to play bingo. He is survived by three children, Joseph and wife Darlene Burgess of Indiana, Carla and husband Anthony Hernande, and daughter Jocelyn, and Catherine and husband Tony Cisneros and son Nico of California; two sisters, Helyn and husband Raymond Nutter of Barnet, and Donna and husband Richard Rooney of South Burlington; nephews, Les and wife Tinna McClelland, Richard and wife Sherry McClellan, Wayne and wife Shari Nutter, James Nutter, Greg Abbot, Reginald Abbott, Steve and wife Pam Abbot, Dwight and wife Sonja Abbot, and Douglas and wife Melissa Abbot; two nieces, Thelma Adams and Vicki and husband Gilman Somers; several great-nieces and -nephews; and three great-great-nephews and -niece. He was predeceased by his mother, Thelma Ward; his grandparents; his father, and a brother, Douglas Burgess. , 99, died Saturday, April 26, 2003 at the Pines Rehabilitation and Health Center in Lyndon. She was born in New York City, N.Y., June 27, 1903, the daughter of Joseph and Olive (Dodge) Ramsay. During World War II she received an award for 6,000 volunteer hours of nurse's aide assistance. She moved to this area in the late 1960s, and her time was given to the Women's Club, Audubon Society, Seed and Weed Garden Club, and Fairbanks Museum, among many. At the age of 63 she received a degree from C.W. Post College on Long Island, N.Y., and was still driving her car on her 91st birthday. A gardener at heart, she helped secure a grant for the flowering crabapple trees seen throughout the town. Survivors include a son, William Weaver of Colonial Beach, Va.; a daughter, Ann and husband Larry Kimball of St. Johnsbury; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Ralph R. Weaver, in 1966; a daughter, Thelma Mold, in 1991; two sisters, and three brothers. Services and burial will be held by the family at a later date. , 85, of 12 Cottage Street, Orleans, died Friday, April 25, 2003 in Newport. He was born Aug. 2, 1917 in Barton, a son of Louis and Ellen (Labounty) Lavoie. On Sept. 9, 1940, he married Madeline Alberghini; she predeceased him in 1992. Mr. Lavoie entered the U.S. Navy during World War II. He served on the USS Weaver DE-741. During his tour they captured a Japanese submarine and observed the signing of the peace treaty. Mr. Lavoie was a machinist and tool maker for Union Twist Butterfield's in Derby Line, retiring in 1983. He was a caretaker of St. Theresa's Cemetery Association for over 40 years. He held memberships with the Orleans Rod & Gun Club, American Legion Post 23 of Orleans, and the Orleans Fire Department and Ambulance Squad. Among his hobbies, he was an avid fisherman and hunter. He is survived by his children, Linda Gariepy and husband John of Newport, Judith Perkins and husband Larry of Westmore, Nancy Dieudonne and husband Robert of Irvine, Calif., David Lavoie and wife Jane of Orleans, and Theresa Granai and husband Robert of Sugar Hill, Ga.; 16 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a brother, Donald "Joe" Lavoie of Nanasus, Va., and seven nieces and nephews. , 84, of Creamery Road, South Ryegate, died Saturday, April 26, 2003 at the Brookside Nursing Home in Bradford. Born in South Ryegate on March 22, 1919, she was the daughter of Thomas and Elspeth (Coull) Nicol. She was a graduate of Woodsville High School. Prior to her retirement she worked as a secretary for the Adams Paper Co. and Blue Mt. Lumber Co., both of Wells River, and Channel Mills of Bradford. Mrs. Murphy was a member of the South Ryegate Presbyterian Church, the Presbyterian Women, and served in many capacities within the church. She also volunteered at the South Ryegate Senior Meal Site. Elsie married Eugene G. "Bud" Murphy in Wells River, Sept. 1, 1938; he predeceased her June 30, 1992. Survivors include one son, George E. Murphy Sr. and wife Norma of South Ryegate; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. There will be no public calling hours. , 84, of Piermont, N.H., died Sunday, April 27, 2003 at the Grafton County Nursing Home, after a long illness. He was born May 18, 1918 in Boltonville, Vt., the son of Tait M. and Nellie (Sanderson) Ritchie. He attended schools in Newbury and Bradford, Vt., and graduated from Vermont Technical College in 1936, with a degree in agriculture. A lifelong farmer, he built up a successful family farm on the River Road in Piermont. Always interested in the business of dairy farming, Mr. Ritchie was known for his leadership in the New Hampshire Farm Bureau, Extension Council, and Dairy Herd Improvement Assocation. A longtime member and director of the Cabot Farmers' Cooperative, Mr. Ritchie played an active role for many years in the FmHA County Advisory, the PCA Advisory Committee, the Milk Promotion Services Board, Large Herd Owners' Association, and the New Hampshire Ayershire Club. Always interested in the betterment of the town, Mr. Ritchie was Piermont town moderator for 18 years, on the school board for nine years, and a board of seletmen member from 1979-1985. He served on the town planning board and also as zoning administrator, and was a trustee of the Piermont Church. In 1978 he was named New Hampshire Outstanding Dairyman by the New England Green Pastures Committee. Survivors include his wife, Helen Proshek, whom he married in 1951 in Toledo, Ohio; two sons, Robert and David Ritchie, both of Piermont; two daughters, Mary Musty and Margaret Ritchie Cleaves, both of Piermont; five grandchildren; a sister, Alice Luginbill of Lakeland, Fla.; and two nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Robert Ritchie, in 1941. Services will be held Wednesday, April 30, at 2 p.m., in the Piermont Congregational Church. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. A resident of Sun City Center, Fla., she was the widow of David Clark Cameron, who passed away in December 2002. She was born in Lancaster, N.H, April 27, 1939, the daughter of James J. and Lucille (Williamson) Bryan. She was a 1957 graduate of Groveton High School and attended Plymouth State College in New Hampshire. Ann was a former resident of St. Johnsbury, Enfield, N.H., and Dover, N.H. She was employed in retail sales for many years, including 15 years at Hovey's Shops in St. Johnsbury. She is survived by her mother, Lucille Mitchell of Sun City Center, Fla.; her sister and brother-in-law, Jane and Peter Lunsford of Dunbarton, N.H.; a son and daughter-in-law, Bryan and Becki Cameron of Nashua, N.H.; a daughter and son-in-law, Lynn and Robert Bouchard of Concord, N.H.; her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Nancy and Richard Keough of New York, N.Y.; one grandson, Peter Cameron of Nashua; two granddaughters, Kaelyn and Hannah Bouchard of Concord; and nieces, Allyson Daynard and Stephanie Wylie. , 79, of Middle Street, Lancaster, N.H., died Sunday afternoon, April 27, 2003, at Weeks Medical Center, Lancaster, after a long illness. Mrs. Smith was born in Lancaster, May 24, 1923, the daughter of Kenneth E. Brisson and Ruth Merrow. Mary was a lifetime resident of Lancaster, graduating from Lancaster Academy in 1941. For many years she performed clerical work at both the Town & Country and Drakes clothing stores in Lancaster. She was a longtime volunteer at Weeks Medical Center, overseeing the operation of the gift shop for 18 years. She was a communicant of All Saints Church, Lancaster, a member of the Tabernacle Society, and lifetime member of the Lancaster Historical Society. Family members include her mother, Ruth Sweet of the Morrison Nursing Home, Whitefield; a brother, Richard Brisson Sr. of Lancaster; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Paul F. Smith, Feb. 4, 1997. At Mary's request there will be no visiting hours. , 40, son of Wade and Jean Hubbard of Lancaster and Lunenburg, passed away at his home in Republic, Mich., Saturday, April 26, 2003, the result of a tragic accident. Tom was born in Framingham, Mass., Nov. 7, 1962. The family moved from Sudbury, Mass., to Lancaster in August of 1963. He attended grade school in Lancaster and graduated from White Mountains Regional High School in 1980. After graduation he worked at Dean Sweeney Auto Body in Dalton, where he developed his love for Mustangs. He was a certified auto mechanic for North Country Ford before joining the United States Air Force, during which time he earned his private pilot's license. After obtaining his commercial license and instrument rating he became a pilot for Superior Aviation in Houghton, Mich. He returned to North Country Ford for a time before accepting a pilot's position with CSA, a subsidiary of Federal Express, located in Iron Mountain, Mich. He was within six credits of receiving his bachelor of science degree in aeronautics from Embrey Riddle University, which was a goal he had set for himself. At the time of his death, Tom was employed as a captain in the flight department of Menards - the Home Depot of the Midwest, in Eau Claire, Mich. He enjoyed summers at Camp Mayo on Martin Meadow Pond, remote control airplanes in his younger days, restoring his Mustang, working in his shop, helping his family and friends with projects, but most of all snowmobiling in Michigan with his sons and their friends. He was divorced after 15 years of marriage to Diana (Hill) Hubbard of Republic, Mich. Survivors include his parents; the sons he adored, Alan Thomas Hubbard, 15, and Russell Dennis Hubbard, 12, both of Republic, Mich.; a sister, Katherine Hustus and husband James of North Waterboro, Maine; a brother, Jamison and wife Donna of Bozeman, Mont.; a sister, Kristin Carr and husband James of Lunenburg; a sister, Joanna Sevigny and husband Paul of York, Maine; and nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was predeceased by his loving grandparents, Katherine and Mayo Magoon and Mildred B. Hubbard of Buffalo, N.Y. She worked 20 years at the Fishman Department Store in St. Albans and was a member of the Catholic church. She enjoyed her domestic duties around the house, was a devoted and loving wife, and when time permitted loved to go camping. Dick owned and operated Bluffside Farm and was president of the Pine Grove Cemetery Association in Newport. He was also a deputy sheriff for the Orleans County Sheriff's Department and a high bailiff with the Orleans County Court. On April 18, 1942 Dick married the former Jane Bixby, who survives him. He is also survived by his children, Joan Curtis and husband Paul of Newport, and Daniel Scott and wife Mary Ann of Derby; his grandchildren, Annie Christoni and husband Thomas of Derby, Paul A. Curtis II of Burlington, Kristy Scott of Derby, and Kory Scott and wife Abigail of Newport; his great-grandchildren, Samantha Jane and Tanner J. Gobeil; his brother, Kenneth Scott and wife Phyllis of Derby; his sister-in-law, Velma Scott of Swanton; his daughter-in-law, Joanne Scott of Newport; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Robert Scott.
