, 81, formerly of St. Johnsbury, died Sunday, June 29, 2003, at the Pines Rehabilitation and Health Center in Lyndonville. He was born in Morrisville, Vt., March 10, 1922, the son of William and Margaret (Gordou) Beddie. Richard served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II in Burma. Mr. Beddie ran a monument company for many years; he loved sports, especially horse racing, and was always ready to play a game of cards. With a wonderful sense of humor, he will be missed by his loving family and many friends. On Aug. 3, 1957, he married Gertrude (Choquette) Beddie, who passed away June 16 of this year. Survivors include eight children, Brian Beddie of St. Johnsbury, Paul R. and wife Sandy Beddie of Bennington, Linda A. and husband Cliff Ozzidi-Ombe of Carteret, N.J., William Beddie of St. Johnsbury, Robert A. Cliche and fiancee Dorothy Whitcher of St. Johnsbury, Michael Cliche of Oneonta, N.Y., Philip and wife Gloria Cliche of Waterford, and Diane Florence of St. Johnsbury; one brother, Robert Beddie of Morrisville, Vt.; ten grandchildren, Meagan Jeremy, Jason, Jennifer, Justin, Nicholas, Vickie, Ryan, Katelyn and Clifford; and two great-grandchildren, Shane and Anthony. He was also predeceased by a son, James Beddie; a grandson, Glenn Cliche; a brother, William Beddie; and two sisters, Roberta Beddie Choquette and Margaret Beddie. Graveside services will be held at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Thursday, July 3 at 10 a.m., with Father Patrick Forman officiating. , 72, of Lyndonville, passed away Saturday, June 28, 2003 at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H. He was born in St. Johnsbury, April 25, 1931, the son of Arthur and Cora Louise Elliott. Norris enjoyed flying and at age 14 flew solo flights over their home in Bradford. Later he had a senior pilot's license and flew for a brief period out of Caledonia Airport. After graduating from the University of Vermont, he returned to Lyndon where he operated a small dairy farm, but he soon became a biology and vocational tech teacher at Lyndon Institute. While teaching he also started a number of businesses, including a poultry farm in 1957, a summer catering service featuring chicken barbecues, and, in 1964, a small greenhouse at the current site of Elliott's Greenhouses on Rte. 122. His career after teaching included a position as business manager at Lyndon Institute and then tricounty extension agent for UVM's Extension Service. After earning his MBA from UVM he moved to Burlington to become the Vermont Small Business Development Center director. His love of horticulture kept him busy. During this period he also built and operated a retail garden center on Rte. 100 in Stowe. After retiring from UVM he built a greenhouse near Bradenton, Fla., where he specialized in the propagation of geraniums, the same crops his parents grew in the original greenhouse located on 170 Dandelion Lane in Lyndonville. Last spring Norris grew over 50,000 geraniums for the Lyndon garden center. Returning north every summer, Norris helped his son Steven and daughter-in-law Carolyn expand the garden center in Lyndon Center. They have extensive plans for continued growth and community service for their garden center, to continue on in Norris' tradition. Staff and customers always enjoyed seeing him there, for his knowledge and his keen wit. Norris served on the board of directors of the Northern Community Investment Corp. for several years. Other local services included the Lyndon Outing Club, Future Farmers of America, and trustee of Lyndon Institute. He is survived by two sons, Steven of Lyndon, and Richard of Fair Haven, Mass., who works in the U.S.C.G. Marine Safety Office in Newport, R.I.; daughters-in-law Carolyn and Ann Marie; grandchildren Mickaela and Hillary, and Bryan and Kimberly; and his companion, Karlene Smith of Glover and Parrish, Fla. Norris' sister, Connie Simpson, predeceased him. , 77, a resident of Hardwick for over 50 years, died Sunday, June 29, 2003 at Copley Hospital in Morrisville. She was born in Johnson, Sept. 21, 1925, the daughter of Leo and Mildred (Reynolds) Grimes. She and her husband Alfred owned and operated a farm which Lolita managed after his death March 25, 1978. Lolita was dedicated to her family, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends. She is survived by four sons and their spouses, Robert and Carolyn and family of Winnemucca, Nev., Norbert and Sandy and family of Hardwick, Alton and Laura and family of Hardwick, and Dalton and Jennifer of North Wolcott; two daughters and their spouses, Geneva and Howard Giles of Irasburg, and Alberta and Don Stryffeler and family of Hardwick; three brothers and their spouses, Raymond and Eleanor Grimes of Hardwick, Merton Grimes of Hardwick, and Kenneth and Priscilla Grimes of Morrisville; two sisters and their spouses, Ema and Gerald Bartlett of Greensboro, and Rachel and Roger Colbeth of Greensboro; 18 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. Lolita was predeceased by her eldest son, Bert Putvain, in 1979; by Bert's children, Tamara and Jason; two sisters, Etta and Phyllis; and three brothers, Arland, Bernard and Richard. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at the des Groseilliers Funeral Home, Church Street, Hardwick. , 88, of Lunenburg, passed away Sunday, June 29, 2003, at the St. Johnsbury Health and Rehabilitation Center, where she had been a resident for two years. She was born at the Lunenburg family farm, the youngest of the "Colby fourteen," June 5, 1915, the daughter of Luke and Nellie (Smith) Colby. She attended the Pierce District School, was a graduate of Lancaster Academy and Lyndon Normal School. While a teacher in Canaan, she met and married Edward Locke. They had one child, John. They lived many years in New Boston, N.H., as Ed was employed in the Manchester area for N.H. Public Service. Rheba's interests were to be always involved in the community and she served in many organizations of that town. Following her husband's death, she returned to her hometown of Lunenburg to live and care for her oldest sister, Olive Ball. She also did substitute teaching. She served as justice of the peace for many years. Her door was always open to welcome any child or person who needed someone to listen and talk with, and she greeted all newcomers to town. She married Chester Hartshorn in 1977 and they enjoyed being at their cottage at Neals Pond. Her life was to serve and please everyone. She and her sister Shirley fished, hunted and scavenger hunted old dumps. She assisted Shirley and her husband Ern when their berries and peas were ready for harvest. Living adjacent to the Methodist church, she committed herself as church caretaker, making sure the heat was on when necessary, providing fresh water at the alter each Sunday for the minister and preparing for communion Sundays. Surviving are two grandchildren, Aaron Locke and wife Lindsey of Merrimack, N.H., and Lisa Locke of Palm Harbor, Fla.; a brother, Howard Colby of Lunenburg; a sister, Rachel Gould of Kingston, Mass.; a cousin, Erma Simonds of the St. Johnsbury Health and Rehabilitation Center; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her two husbands and son John; and in the past six months, sisters Shirley Peavey and Ruby Beecher, and brother Ellis Colby. Memorial services will be held at the Lunenburg Methodist Church, Saturday, July 5 at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Gerry Piper officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. , 86, of Lyndonville, passed away Tuesday, July 1, 2003, at the Pines Rehabilitation and Health Center, Lyndonville. She was born April 16, 1917, in West Burke, the daughter of the late James S. and Dora (Hastings) McFarland. She graduated from St. Johnsbury Academy, Class of 1936. She attended a child care training school in Massachusetts. She then returned to Vermont to care for her ill mother until her death. She spent her working years in the child care field. After retiring, she returned to Vermont and soon resided at the Darling Inn. When she became ill, she moved to the Woodside House in Danville and then in 1995 she became a resident at the Pines Rehabilitation and Health Center in Lyndonville. She was a collector of dolls and enjoyed knitting, sewing and crocheting. She was a member of the Lyndonville United Methodist Church. She is survived by her brother, Leon and wife Anna McFarland of Danville; her cousins, Bertha Ellen Robinson of St. Johnsbury and Sue Hooper of California; and several nieces and nephews. Her brother, James McFarland, predeceased her. There will be no calling hours. Funeral services will be held at the Lyndonville United Methodist Church, Thursday, July 3 at 1 p.m., with the Rev. , 86, of Laurel Street, Whitefield, N.H., died Sunday, June 29, 2003, at the Genesis Healthcare Center in Lebanon, N.H., after a brief illness. She was born in Piermont, Oct. 15, 1916, the daughter of Ralph and Hattie (Molway) Webster. She attended the local school in Piermont. She lived in Littleton prior to moving to Whitefield in 1967. She was a dedicated social worker who for many years worked closely with the local senior citizens. She founded the Whitefield Senior Citizens Center and was instrumental in bringing the Meals on Wheels program to the Whitefield/Lancaster area. She was a member of the Mount Washington Grange and received the Community Citizen Award in recognition of outstanding service to the community and mankind. Marjorie was well known and respected for her contributions to the elderly. She loved spending time with her family, cooking, gardening, and reading. She was a loving mother and grandmother and will be deeply missed. She is survived by a son, Ralph Porfido, and two daughters, Dorothy Wright and Stella and husband David Harris, all of Littleton; three grandchildren, Holly (Wright) and husband Brett Robinson of Preston, Conn., and Jessica and Shane Harris of Littleton. She was predeceased by two brothers and a sister, Alan Webster of Elmira, N.Y., and Ralph Webster and Dorothy Webster, both of Piermont. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday, July 3 at 11 a.m. at the St. Matthews Catholic Church, with Father George Majka officiating. A graveside service will be held following the service at 1:30 p.m. at the South Lawn Cemetery in Piermont. Memorial contributions may be made in Marjorie's name to the charity of one's choice.

, 91, died peacefully, Wednesday, July 2, 2003, at her home in St. Johnsbury with family and friends at her side. She was born Feb. 12, 1912, and grew up in Pratt's Junction, Mass., marrying Alden E. Hull in 1936. Together they raised their family in St. Johnsbury. In later years, they enjoyed living in their home on a beautiful hillside in East Burke. After Alden's death in 1979, Margaret continued to live in her home until the last few years when she returned to St. Johnsbury to make her home with her daughter Debby and husband Gary. Peg graduated in 1932 from Colby Junior College. In 1981, at the age of 70, she earned her bachelor of arts degree, with honors, from Lyndon State College. She was truly inspired by her professors there and continued to be a life-long learner. The love of her family, friends and caregivers, and her love of birds, flowers and books enriched her long life. She will truly be missed by her family, including three children, Margot and Jack Brown of East Middlebury, Deborah and Gary Thornton of St. Johnsbury, and Judith and Ron Groskopf of Sonoma, Calif.; and grandchildren, Christopher Brown of Burlington, Melissa Brown of East Middlebury, Jessica Thornton and Dan Sherman of Grantham, N.H., John and Kristin Thornton of Bellingham, Mass., Joel Thornton of Toronto, Ontario, Juliet Thornton of Halifax, Nova Scotia, and Sarah, Mark and Andrew Groskopf of Sonoma, Calif. Peg was thrilled to have three great-grandchildren as well: Colin and Owen Thornton of Bellingham, Mass., and Myles Thornton of Grantham, N.H. , 46, of 204 North Rd., Lancaster, N.H., died Thursday, July 3, 2003, at Weeks Medical Center-Dartmouth-Hitchcock in Lancaster, after a short illness. She was born in Lancaster, Oct. 4, 1956, the daughter of Basil and Everdean (Bean) Heath. A lifelong resident of Lancaster, she was a 1974 graduate of White Mountains Regional High School. She loved to garden and was also a certified nurses aide. She served many years as an active member of the Lancaster Ambulance Corps, was a member of the John W. Weeks Post VFW Auxiliary and very active in their Toys for Tots program. Mrs. Mosher worked 13 years for Weeks Memorial Hospital and more recently worked as office manager for Dr. William Lakey at the Littleton Regional Hospital for 13 years. Family members include her husband, Tom Mosher of Lancaster; her daughter, Carissa Flynn of Lancaster; three sisters, Mrs. Bonnie Brousseau of Canaan, Vt.; Mrs. Louise Lufkin and Mrs. Debra Nutting, both of Lancaster; one brother, Jeffrey Heath of Jefferson, N.H.; and nieces, nephews and cousins. , 66, of 601 72nd Ave. N., St. Petersburg, Fla., died unexpectedly, Thursday, July 3, 2003, at her son's home in New Port Richey, Fla. Born July 13, 1936 in Jackman, Maine, the daughter of Willie Noel and Eugene Simonne (Champagne) Poulin, she moved to the North Stratford, N.H., area as a child. She was married to Robert H. Platt for 44 years. She lived most of her life in the Groveton-Stratford area, moving to St. Petersburg, Fla., 13 years ago. She worked at the Derby Lane Dog Track for some time, but was a housewife and mother most of her married life. Rita was a member of St. Francis Xavier Church, Groveton, and Holy Family Church, St. Petersburg, Fla. Mrs. Platt is survived by her husband of 44 years, Robert H. Platt of St. Petersburg, Fla.; seven children, Melody J. Everette of Anchorage, Alaska, Dana R. Platt of Bryan Station, Texas, Catherine L. Lunn of Berlin, N.H., Sandra L. Hand of Bloomfield, N.H., Robert H. Platt Jr. of Jacksonville, Fla., Dennis M. Platt of New Port Richey, Fla., Mark D. Platt of St. Petersburg, Fla.; 13 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; her mother, Eugene S. 83, died Sunday, July 6, 2003, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington, following a very short illness. Bobbie was born in 1920 in Derby Line, the daughter of Homer and Mamie Davis. She was married to Lysle Boulrisse, who predeceased her in 1981. They spent their married life in Lyndonville and Winooski. Bobbie was both an accomplished cook and dancer. She boasted proudly that she had taught her brothers all of the fancy steps which were in vogue in the 1940s and 1950s. She worked for many years at Colonial Distributors in Burlington. She will be especially remembered for her devotion to and love of her family, and for her dedicated care of her many pets, most particularly her poodle Corky. Mrs. Boulrisse is survived by her daughter, Anita and husband Lawrence LeCours and their son Scott and wife Nicole; her daughter, Amy and husband Andrew Tosch and great-granddaughter Sadie; her daughter Bonita and husband Leo LeCours, their son Tim, their daughter Mary and husband Chris Morrissey and great-granddaughters Riley and Allison, and their daughter Michele and husband Jeffrey Martel; a brother, Patrick Davis of Lyndonville; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Gardner Davis and William Davis, and a sister, Goldie Simpson. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 8, at 11 a.m., at the Guibord Funeral Home in Lyndonville, with deacon Alfred Toborg of St. Elizabeth's Church officiating. , 89, wife of the late Norman P. Fenn, died at her daughter's home in Portsmouth, R.I., Saturday, July 5, 2003. Born in Brockton, Mass., a daughter of the late Forrest R. and Grace H. (Arey) Weatherbee, she grew up, was educated and resided in Brockton for over 50 years. She resided in Pike, N.H., for 32 years and in Portsmouth, R.I., since January 2002. Mrs. Fenn was an avid reader and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Woodsville, N.H. She leaves six children, Norman F. Fenn Sr. of Brockton, Mass., Sandra B. Martin of Lyndonville, Ronald D. Fenn of Pike, Forrest M. Fenn of Abington, Mass., Harriet N. Jackson of Portsmouth, R.I., and Christopher E. Fenn of Woodsville; a sister, Marion A. Weatherbee of Peoria, Ariz.; and 25 grandchildren. Her funeral will be held Thursday, July 10, at 1 p.m., in the George L. Copeland & Son Funeral Home, 38 Center St., Easton, Mass. , who was known to many friends as "Randy," was born May 6, 1932, in Trenton, N.J., the third of six children of George Alfred and Frances (Randall) Hess. She was educated in the Trenton public schools, and received her bachelor of arts degree in education from Trenton State College (now the College of New Jersey) in 1954. She had additional studies at Jersey City State, for courses in early childhood education, and was certified as a learning disabilities therapist by the National Institute of Learning Disabilities, Norfolk, Va. Jane taught second grade in Trenton and North Plainfield, N.J., before raising her family and then returning to teaching after her youngest was out of the second grade. She taught in Dunellen, N.J., and at Timothy Christian School in Piscataway, N.J., for 20 years. At Timothy she worked on expansion of the library facilities, and became the first director of its learning disabilities program, which she served for six years, retiring in 1996. Jane married Harman R. Clark Jr., an attorney at law of New Jersey, in 1957. The couple lived in Dunellen, N.J., for 38 years, retiring to Sheffield in 1996, where he survives her. They had met at the Interdenominational Young Peoples Conference in the Pocono Mountains, as youth, and maintained an interest in that work, Jane having subsequently served as president of its board of directors. For 25 years she taught the Berachah Class of older women at Hydewood Park Baptist Church, North Plainfield, N.J. After moving to Vermont she was active at the Lyndon Center Baptist Church, reorganizing and cataloging its library, and serving as president of the church United Women's group. She was also assisting in a home Bible study and had taught at vacation Bible school when her illness was diagnosed. The couple's home in Sheffield is next to their daughter, Sarah Jane Ham, and her husband Patrick L. Ham, a middle school teacher at Millers Run School. Jane delighted in living near her "Ham grandchildren," Lydia Marie, Katherine Hope, Abigail Jane, and Tobias John Patrick, who was born June 18, 2003. In addition to her husband and daughter Sarah Jane and her family, she is survived by two sons, David of Princeton, N.J., a vice president and actuary with American Reinsurance, Princeton, N.J., and G. Alfred "Fred" of Media, Pa., a night copy editor with The News Journal of Wilmington, Del. She is also survived by another daughter, Betty Lou Green, and three grandchildren in Fogelsville, Pa. Her surviving siblings are Barbara Gibbs and husband Dr. Winfield S. Gibbs of Sunbury, Pa; Dorothy Ambler and husband Dr. R. Sterling Ambler of Denver, Colo.; Elizabeth "Betty" Hess and her friend Blanche Van Dalen of Fairless Hills, Pa.; and Dr. G. Alfred Hess Jr. and wife Mary of Chicago, Ill. She is also survived by Charles J. Hardwick of Beavercreek, Ohio, widower of her late sister, Louise, and by eight nieces and nephews and seven grandnieces and grandnephews. One of her favorite Bible verses, which helped during her last illness, is Nahum 1:7 - "The Lord is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in him." A memorial service is planned for a later date at Lyndon Center Baptist Church, with her nephew, the Rev. Charles B. Hardwick of Princeton, N.J., participating. Interment will be in Dexter Cemetery, Sheffield, following a private family graveside committal service. 67, of Jefferson, died peacefully at his home, Monday afternoon, July 7, 2003, after a courageous battle with cancer. Joe was born in Richford, Vt., Feb. 27, 1936, to H. Alvin and Pearl (Perry) Gross. He moved from Vermont to the state of Maine in 1946. He came to the state of New Hampshire in 1954, where he met and married Mary L. Ingerson on Jan. 7, 1956. His life's work was spent in the woods starting at the young age of 11 working behind a twitch horse and at the age of 17 driving a log truck. He operated one of the first skidders in this area, working for Chet Mclain. He worked 12 years for Coleman Kenison. In 1977 he purchased his own skidder and continued to work in the woods until his illness in 2000. He served as chief of police for the town of Jefferson from 1969 to 1971. His many interests included hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, dancing, entering and watching horse pulling competitions. He was always interested in the weather and kept daily records. He enjoyed his camp at Pike Pond in Stark, N.H. Joe will be remembered for his love of family, generosity, dry sense of humor and his distinct infectious laugh. He leaves behind his wife of 47 years, Mary; a daughter, Joyce and husband Dana Roberts, formerly of Littleton; son Brice and wife Ellen of Twin Mountain; daughter Judith and husband Nathan Friend of Jefferson; daughter Tracy Gross and companion Daniel Inghram of Bethlehem; daughter Patti and husband Linwood Roy of Dalton; 10 grandchildren, Megan Dexter, Miranda and Trevor Gross, Justin, Matthew and Adam Friend, Connor and Carly Inghram, and Griffin and Taylor Roy; a great-granddaughter, Mariah Dexter of Littleton; three brothers, Malcolm Gross of Bethel, Maine, Neil Gross of Jefferson, and Douglas Gross of Holton, Maine; two sisters, Sandra Montgomery of Mt. Holly, Vt., and Opal Bronson of Jefferson; his step-mother, Mildred Gross of White River Junction, Vt.; a step-brother, Glendon Marceau of Peacham, Vt.; two half sisters, Millie Murgida of Brattleboro, Vt., and Allison Childs of Quechee, Vt.; and a large extended family. He was predeceased by both parents; two brothers, Coleman and Walter Gross; a stepbrother, Kendall Marceau; and his beloved grandson, Jeremy Dexter, in 1995. , 68, of Littleton, died Sunday, July 6, 2003 at Littleton Regional Hospital in Littleton. He was born in Goffstown, N.H., June 29, 1935, a son of David and Sarah (Fannon) Coughlin. Dave graduated from Bishop Brady High School in Manchester, N.H., in 1953. He enlisted in the military, where he served with distinction for 21 years. A combat veteran, he parachuted into Lebanon during the Middle East crisis of 1958. He also served in Vietnam in 1967-68. Upon retiring from the military, he worked for the federal government as a logistic analyst. He was an avid outdoorsman; he retired to Littleton in 1988 where he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Ingeborg (Wiedemann) Coughlin; two sons, Patrick and wife Cynthia of Nashua, N.H., and Michael and wife Christie of Waldorf, Md.; one daughter, Karen and husband Stew Weldon of Plymouth, N.H.; and seven grandchildren, Meagan and Molly of Nashua, Katherine, Johanna and William of Waldorf, Md., and Quinn and Ruby Weldon of Plymouth; a brother, James and wife Claudette of Milford, N.H.; and two sisters, Margaret and husband James Kantagis of Nashua, N.H., and Sally and husband Ronald Simms of Portsmouth, N.H. , 77, of Barber Street, Fonda, N.Y., passed away Monday, June 16, 2003 at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam, N.Y. She was born June 22, 1925 in St. Johnsbury, a daughter of Henry W. and Emily M. Armstrong Cook. Esther was raised in Vermont and was a graduate of St. Johnsbury Academy, Class of 1943, and was the valedictorian of the class. She went on to graduate from the University of Vermont, where she received her bachelor of science degree in music education. She was a member of Phi Beta Kappa Sorority. She later earned a master of arts in music from UVM in 1950. She worked for many years as a music teacher and librarian in the Manchester, Vt. school system. She also worked at one time in the Chicago Public Library, and libraries in Staunton, Va., and the state of Mississippi regional public libraries as assistant and head librarian. She spent time in Washington, D.C., Nashville, Tenn., and also lived in Wellesley, Mass. for a time. She was of the Methodist faith. She is survived by one brother, Richard H. Cook of Rochester, N.Y.; one sister, Marjorie E. Boshart of Fonda, N.Y.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by a sister, Beverly Hamilton, in 1991; and a brother, George Cook. A graveside service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Danville Green Cemetery in Danville, with the Rev. John Marshall presiding. , 81, formerly of Heaton Woods, Montpelier, died Monday evening, July 7, 2003, at Rowan Court Health and Rehabilitation Center in Barre. She moved to Montpelier from East Burke in 1982. Mrs. Adams was born in Lyndon Center May 24, 1922, the daughter of Leon and Kate (Balentine) Hopkins. She attended schools in Lyndon and graduated from Lyndon Institute and Lyndon State College, attending Columbia University for one year. She married Clinton Adams Sr. June 23, 1947. She taught school for over 30 years, mostly in the Burke school system. While Mr. Adams was serving in the U.S. Navy, Mrs. Adams was teaching school in Newfoundland and in Kittery, Maine. Mr. Adams died in 1972. Marion was a member of the Lyndonville Legion Auxiliary, D.A.R., and the Retired Teachers Association and was involved with many musical groups in Lyndonville. She is survived by one daughter, Cindy Adams Foster and husband Wayne of Montpelier; one son, Clinton Adams Jr. and wife Shirley of Berlin; eight grandchildren, Chris, Jamon and Jaron Foster of Montpelier, Mary Ellen Mack of Otego, N.Y., Kelly Sicely of Barre Town, Rachel Adams of Eden, Amy Adams of Plainfield and Jessica Adams of Berlin; and two great-grandchildren, Kayla and Victoria. , 53, died Thursday, July 3, 2003, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center after a tragic accident. Timothy was born in Evanston, Ill., Nov. 26, 1949, to Priscilla and Thomas W. Leary Jr. As a child, Tim lived in Illinois, Westport, Conn., and Tampa, Fla., as the family followed his father's career. He attended Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, Pa. and Franconia College in Franconia, N.H. After college, Tim settled in Franconia, working as a carpenter. He continued to hone photography skills that he had developed in college. Those skills and a strong and active interest in the outdoors since early childhood led to a career as a professional freelance photographer and writer for the hunting and fishing industry. Over the years, Tim's photography and writing has appeared in most major outdoor publications including Gray's Sporting Journal, Shooting Sportsman, Sports Afield, Outdoor Life, Field and Stream, Petersen's Hunting Publications, Fly Rod and Reel, Fly Fisherman, American Angler, Saltwater Fly Fishing, Flyfishing in Saltwaters, Gun Dog, Wing and Shot, Men's Journal, and many more. In addition, Tim has furnished photography for the L.L. Bean hunting and fishing catalogs, the Orvis hunting and fishing catalogs, plus a number of calendars, books and commercial ads. Tim was also a contributing editor for Shooting Sportsman magazine, American Angler and Saltwater Fly Fishing magazine. Tim was also an experienced television talent, having hosted 40 episodes of New England Outdoors. The show aired nationwide on the cable travel channel as well as on a number of regional networks throughout New England. Tim was a member of the Outdoor Writer's Association, the Ruffed Grouse Society and Ducks Unlimited. His involvement with hunting and fishing led to some of his closest and dearest friendships. He enjoyed the kind of camaraderie that can only come from sharing a successful hunt on a crisp October day or sitting for hours in a frozen duck blind and coming home empty-handed but still happy. In 1991 he met the love of his life, Donna Whitehill. They shared their lives and many happy years in Franconia, a community near and dear to both their hearts. In 1998, they moved to Kirby where Donna had spent her childhood and fulfilled their dream of building a home. Tim quickly became active in Kirby town government, serving as zoning administrator for two years and becoming the champion of local Green-Up efforts. He was very proud of the pristine beauty of the area and worked selflessly to keep it that way. In recent years, Tim had a rekindled interest in building homes and was known for his fine craftsmanship and meticulous attention to detail, a trait that carried over into every facet of his life. Tim was famous for a huge repertoire of mostly bad jokes, an overly developed sweet tooth and such talents as teaching children how to burp the alphabet. He loved watching sunsets at the end of the day with Donna on their porch, keeping track of the bluebird hatches in the apple orchard he tended, and trying to grow perfect pumpkins and tomatoes. His wit, his smile, his joy for life, his love of Donna, Zach and Toby and his friends and family will be greatly missed. Tim is survived by his parents, Thomas and Priscilla Leary of The Villages, Fla.; his brother Todd and companion Peggy Scott of Andover, Mass., and his fiancée, Donna Whitehill. , 68, of Barnet Center, died Wednesday, July 9, 2003, at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital in St. Johnsbury. He was born in Somerville, Mass., July 31, 1934, the son of Elroy and Mary (Twombly) Bailey. Mr. Bailey served his country during the Korean War in the U.S. Air Force. He worked for NSA Industries (household products) as a machinist. Other local jobs included Kilfasset Dairy. Ken was fond of maple sugaring, four-wheeling, fishing and hunting, and he was always ready for a game of horseshoes. He was a former member of the Elks. Survivors include his wife, Priscilla (Goss) Bailey of Barnet Center; children, Laurie and husband Reginald Emmons of Burke, Jeana and husband Ray Desilets of St. Johnsbury, Elroy and wife Diana Bailey of Alton, N.H., William "Bill" and wife Tammi Bailey of North Danville, Suzy and husband Greg Broome of Wheelock, and Matthew Hawkins and Meredith Hawkins, both of Barnet. He is also survived by five sisters, Charlotte and husband Neal Blodgett of Waterford, Marilyn and husband Ronald Clifford of Lyndonville, Brenda and husband Steve Simpson of Kirby, Barbara Sahlin and Shawna Wilkerson, both of Lyndonville; 10 grandchildren, Ryan, Erica, Robin, Nicquelle, Daniel, Ashley, Hilary, Tanner, Dillan and Bailey; a great-granddaughter, Hailey Emmons of Springfield; and his former wife, Donna Bailey of Reno, Nev. , 78, of Shelburne, died Wednesday, July 9, 2003, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington of complications from congestive heart failure and diabetes. He was born in North Danville Nov. 4, 1924, the son of the late Walter and Ruth (Davis) Blodgett. In 1942 he graduated from St. Johnsbury Academy. He graduated cum laude from the Lincoln Extension Institute for Industrial Management in 1963. Mal served meritoriously in the U.S. Army 30th Infantry as a machine gunner in the European Theater during World War II. He was a decorated combat veteran receiving the Silver Star for his experience in the Battle of the Bulge as well as additional decorations for several other European campaigns. Mal's service in the war had a profound influence on the remainder of his life. He was married May 24, 1947 to Marilyn M. Morrill. She predeceased him after 54 years of marriage, on June 13, 2001. Mal retired as a programmer from the General Electric Company in 1986 after 35 years of service. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Burlington. Mal will be fondly remembered by family and friends for his understated Vermont wit and sense of humor. He enjoyed being in the outdoors, fishing and had a special love for working with draft horses. Mal was particularly proud of, and had great affection for his eight grandchildren. He is survived by four children, Linda Clark and husband Paul of St. Albans, Denny Blodgett of South Burlington, Sharon Shand and husband Robert of Jericho, and Douglas Blodgett and wife Kim of East Wallingford; seven grandchildren, Stacey Clark, Eric, Emily and Grayden Shand, Nathan Blodgett, and Kristin and Cory Blodgett; his sisters and brother, Shirley Langmaid of Danville, Neil Blodgett of Waterford, and June Sager of McIndoe Falls; and nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by a grandchild, Cami Sue Clark in 1998. There will be no calling hours. A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, July 12 at 11 a.m. in the First Baptist Church, 81 St. Paul St., Burlington. Family members will attend a private burial. , 74, of St. Johnsbury, died Tuesday, July 8, 2003, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H., of respiratory complications following surgery. He was born in St. Johnsbury Feb. 4, 1929, the son of Lewis E. and Bernice (Lawrence) Kimball. On May 14, 1960 he married the former Ann Rogers Weaver of New York. Survivors include son Jonathan and wife Patricia of Georgetown, Maine, daughter Sarah of New York City, and son Jeremy and wife Magda of Santa Rosa, Calif.; two grandchildren, Nicholas Lawrence and Andrew James of Santa Rosa, Calif.; a sister, Virginia Johnson and husband Raymond of St. Johnsbury; a niece, Kimberly Johnson Kidney and husband David of Montpelier; a nephew, Michael Johnson of Manteo, N.C.; an aunt, Doris Lawrence of St. Johnsbury; and several cousins. Larry graduated from St. Johnsbury Academy in 1947, the University of Vermont with academic honors in 1951, and from Georgetown Law Center in 1955 after a year of work at the Department of Vocational Rehabilitation in Washington, D.C. He then clerked for attorney John Swainbank in 1955 and opened his own practice thereafter. He was elected to two terms as town representative in 1957 and 1959, served as state's attorney in 1960 and as Municipal Court judge for the Northeast Kingdom from 1961 through 1968. When the judgeship became full-time he chose to remain with his practice rather than seek to continue on the bench. Larry was honored as Citizen of the Year by the Jaycees, for which he had served as a regional officer. He was a founding director of the Youth Services Bureau, a director of the early Northeast Kingdom Mental Health, an NVRH corporator, a long-term UVM Alumni Council Representative, and a trustee of Wildridge Academy in Newark. Larry's career was characterized by a reputation for integrity and his strong belief that anyone needing legal representation deserved it, regardless of his ability to pay. He served thousands in his 48 years of practice from which he had yet to retire. Given opportunities to practice elsewhere, he nevertheless chose to return to his home town, for which he always felt a strong attachment. He enjoyed the simple pleasures of his surroundings; his dogs and cats, bird watching and squirrel antics, woodchuck visits, the changing seasons and the sounds of the river. In keeping with his love of animals, he served as treasurer of the Elizabeth H. Brown Humane Society Inc., and had been involved with the Vermont Humane Foundation. He and his wife were honorary lifetime members of The Champlain Valley Kennel Club and a member of state, regional and national dog clubs. They exhibited dogs successfully for many years in the U.S. and Canada. Larry enjoyed classical movies and musicals, he played the piano and enjoyed hearing the morning radio program which featured oldies and big band sounds. While afflicted with cerebral palsy, he demonstrated that a disability is not necessarily a handicap. In fact, at benefit dances the line of women waiting to jitterbug with him attested to his dancing abilities, and he faltered only at skiing and ice skating. People were drawn to his kindness and sense of humor, and his dry Vermont wit carried him through many trying times. He truly enjoyed people and in recent years missed visiting with old friends. His passing is a great loss to his family and the community. There will be no visiting hours. An announcement regarding a September memorial service will be made at a later date. 79, of 577 Summer St., St. Johnsbury, passed away Thursday morning, July 10, 2003, after a brief illness. She was born in Springfield, Vt., Dec. 27, 1923, one of seven children born to Joseph and Anna (Bladyka) Ordinetz. She married Ernest "Mac" McKee, who predeceased her Feb. 4, 2000. The McKees enjoyed their summers at their camp in Walden. Val was a strong union activist at Fairbanks Scales, and served as vice president of the local union. She had previously worked at St. Johnsbury Trucking. She is survived by three children, Margaret McKee, with whom she made her home; and Steven E. McKee and Michael G. McKee, both of St. Johnsbury Center; two grandchildren, Michael S. McKee and Vanessa McKee, both of St. Johnsbury Center; two sisters, Mary White and Eugenia Capron, both of Bellows Falls; a sister-in-law, Muriel Davis and husband Charlie of Walpole, N.H.; and her husband's uncle, Walter McKee of Lyndonville; and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sisters, Olga Ordinetz and Helen Saunders; and two brothers, Walter Ordinetz, and little Nicholas as a 1-year-old. , 92, of 155 Power House Road, Canaan, passed away peacefully at her residence with her family by her side, Wednesday, July 9, 2003. Mrs. Fearon was born May 12, 1911, at her family home on Indian Stream Road in Pittsburg, N.H., the daughter of the late Perley Ray and Lizzie Annie (Johnson) Schoff. She graduated from Plymouth Normal School in 1931 and taught in Stewartstown and Pittsburg. She was an active member of the Grace United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School and Bible School, played the organ, sang in the choir, served as lay speaker and was a member of the United Methodist Women. Music was an important part of her life and she also enjoyed playing the organ for the Beecher Falls Methodist Church and the Bloomfield Methodist Church. She was an active member in several civic organizations such as the Pythian Sisters, the Aurora Grange, 4-H, and the Senior Companion program. She was an excellent homemaker and she assisted her late husband in writing and publishing his many books. Mrs. Fearon is survived by her family members, Juana Schoff of Canaan; Joel Fearon and wife Ruth of Vergennes; Shellie Bresnahan and husband Michael of Berlin, N.H.; Janice Jackson and husband Carroll "Tom" of Colebrook, N.H.; Mrs. James (Mary) Fearon of Lyndonville; Bernice Fish of Pittsburg, N.H.; seven grandchildren, Linda, Scott, Mark, Dean, Jodi, Rebecca and Jason; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Fearon was preceded in death by her loving husband, Perley E. Fearon, in 1972; and her son, James Fearon, in 2003. , 87, formerly of 42 Knight Ave., Littleton, passed away at the Grafton County Nursing Home, North Haverhill, following a long illness. She was born Dec. 24, 1915 in Waterbury, Vt., daughter of George and Christine (Muzzy) Demeritt. She married Clifford G. Santy, June 28, 1935, and he predeceased her in 1962. Thelma had resided in Littleton for more than 65 years, and lived at her Knight Avenue residence for 52 years. She became deputy town clerk of Littleton in 1959 when her husband was elected to the town clerk position. Following his death in 1962, she was appointed town clerk. In 1963 she was elected town clerk. She spent many dedicated years as town clerk. Evenings one could drive by the town offices only to see the lights still on as Thelma routinely worked into the evenings and on weekends. She retired in March 1989, following 30 years of service to the community. She was an active member of the Eastern Star, Mt. Eustis Chapter 37, and was a 40-year member. She served as worthy matron in 1967, and held many other offices over the years. She was a member of the Littleton Area Historical Society, the Rebekahs, and the American Legion Auxiliary. Despite all of her accomplishments, she was first and foremost a mother and grandmother. She enjoyed being a homemaker while her sons were growing up. She was also predeceased by a sister, Madeline, and a brother, Clinton. She is survived by three sons, Nolin and wife Sarah, and their children Sarah, Rebecca and Jonathan Santy of Bow, N.H., George and wife Joan Santy of Littleton, and their children Jody and husband Mark McFarlin of Hampton, N.H., and their children Ian and Heidi, Clifford and wife Judi, and their children, Heath, Nicholas and Tanya Santy of Whitefield, N.H., Ronald Santy of Milton, Fla., and children Ronda and husband Shannon Harper, and son Andrew of Mt. City, Tenn., Scott and son Taylor of Milton, Fla. , 70, of Broadview Avenue, Newport, died July 12, 2003, in Lebanon, N.H. He was born June 24, 1933, in Cabot, a son of Edwin and Clara (Carpenter) Smith. Mr. Smith graduated from Cabot High School and later from the Vermont Technical College in Randolph. On June 30, 1958, he married Marilyn Bates, who survives him. He began his career as a land surveyor with Truline Surveyors of St. Johnsbury, owned by Richard Bohlen. He was also employed in the early 1970s by Dufresne-Henry Surveying Co., who sold Truline in 1994 to Mr. Smith. He ran this as proprietor until his retirement in 2001. He held memberships with the Land Surveyors Association and the North Congregational Church in St. Johnsbury, where he served on the investment committee, was senior deacon and chairman of the business committee. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Smith of Newport; and by two sons, Brian Carl Smith of Greenfield, Mass., and Alan Robert Smith and wife Susan Ellen Smith of Burlington; a step-grandson, Christopher Brian Smith; a brother, David Smith of Cabot; a sister, Olive Larson of West Springfield, Mass.; and by several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, July 16, at 2 p.m., at the Pine Grove Cemetery in Newport with the Rev. Jay Sprout officiating. , 93, of Greensboro, died Wednesday, July 9, 2003, in Greensboro. She was born Dec. 22, 1909, in Lyndonville, the daughter of the late John and Flora (Campbell) Nash. She attended Lyndon Institute, and graduated from Concord High School in Concord, N.H., the Class of 1927. She continued her education at UVM, graduating in the Class of 1931. She married Warner Lloyd Davis, Aug. 22, 1934 in Burlington. Dot was first employed as a teacher of Latin and French at Randolph High School, and for several years was assistant postmistress in Greensboro Bend. She was a very active member of the Greensboro Bend United Methodist Church, the Ladies Aid Society of that church, as well as organist and choir director for nearly 70 years, playing until three weeks before her death. Other memberships include the Alpha Chi Omega Sorority, Orleans County Retired Teachers Association, Greensboro Kazoo Band, and the Senior Trotters. She had been an auditor for the town of Greensboro, trustee of the Greensboro Library, and past president of the PTA in Greensboro Bend. Dot's positive, outgoing, empathetic nature and optimistic attitude always made her home in "The Bend," a gathering place filled with the scent of the baking of her famous bread, sounds of her piano, noise of the 4-H clubs she led, and the hospitality of tea and cookies. She loved activity and life - children, birds, music, wildflowers, card parties, cats and crossword puzzles, and most of all, people. She was sports enthusiast - from her years on the UVM tennis, basketball and baseball teams, to playing shuffleboard in Florida; and she later became an avid TV game fan. In her retirement years, she and her husband lived during the winter in their Tavares, Fla., home and enjoyed traveling over the U.S., Canada, Mexico and Europe. Survivors include a son, John G. Davis and wife Susan of Queensbury, N.Y.; two daughters, Nancy D. Hill and husband Lewis of Greensboro, and Sylvia D. Vatalaro and husband Charles of Latham, N.Y.; four grandchildren, Sheri O'Brien and husband Tim, Scott Davis, John Vatalaro and wife Melissa, and Christopher Vatalaro; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, Warner in 1996; and a sister, Alice Wheeler. To honor her request, there will be no visiting hours. , 75, wife of the late Darwin E. Stone, formerly of Hebron, Conn., and of 779 Woods Hill Road, Sutton, passed away July 10, 2003, in Colchester, Conn. She was born July 30, 1927 in New London, Conn., a daughter of the late John and Alice Bragaw Markham. She was married Oct. 10, 1948 at the St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Hebron to Darwin E. Stone. Mr. Stone passed away in 1998. Alice graduated from the Joseph Lawrence School of Nursing in New London, Conn., Class of 1948. She was employed as a school nurse and health teacher for the Rham High School for 23 years in Hebron. She retired in 1983. She then moved to Sutton where she worked as a Home Health nurse and for the WIC Program in Vermont. She was very active in community affairs, loved to play bridge, garden and raise Siberian huskies. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Everett and Amy Stone of Hebron; two granddaughters, Meaghan and Meryl Stone; two sisters, Elizabeth Bochain of Stonington, and Dolly Bochain of Moosup, Conn.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by a sister, Adelaide Hammond; and a niece, Margaret Lopresto. A memorial service will be held July 26, 2003, at 10 a.m., at the Sutton Freewill Baptist Church, with Pastor Ron Loncar officiating. Please omit flowers. , of Lyndonville, passed away peacefully Saturday, July 12, 2003, at the Pines Rehabilitation and Health Center in Lyndon after a 12-year battle with cancer. He was born May 2, 1911, in Yonkers, N.Y., the son of the late Joseph and Julia (Cuba) Gessner. He worked 47 years as a salesman for the Waverly Division of F. Schumacher and Company of New York City. Mr. Gessner and wife Martha (Beha) moved to St. Johnsbury in 1979 and more recently to Lyndonville in 2001. An enthusiastic bow hunter, fisherman, golfer, camper and square dancer, he also served as an usher for many years at St. John the Evangelist Church in St. Johnsbury. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Martha Gessner of Lyndonville; two sons, Robert and wife Mary Ann Gessner, and William and wife Wendy Gessner, all of Sheffield; four grandchildren, Mark, Ryan, Dan and Kate Gessner. He was predeceased by two brothers, John and Joseph Gessner. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday, July 17, at 10 a.m., at St. Elizabeth Church in Lyndonville with the Rev. Stephen Nichols, celebrant. There will be no visiting hours. Friends are invited to meet with the family directly following the Mass. Burial will be private and held at the convenience of the family. , 61, of 4920 Dartmouth College Highway, Woodsville, N.H., died Sunday July 13, 2003, at Cottage Hospital in Woodsville following a brief illness. She was born Feb. 22, 1942 in Woodsville, the daughter of Arthur and Gertrude (Roberts) Arsenault. On Dec. 24, 1960, she married Gene Robert Gadwah. Mrs. Gadwah worked as a nurse's aide at the Grafton County Nursing Home, North Haverhill, N.H., the St. Johnsbury Health and Rehabilitation Center, St. Johnsbury, and the Knapp Nursing Home in Lisbon, N.H.; she had also been employed at the former Burndy Industries in North Haverhill. She was a former member of the Pythian Sisters, North Haverhill, and former member of the East Ryegate Presbyterian Church, East Ryegate. Surviving relatives include her husband of 42 years, Gene R. Gadwah of Woodsville; a son, Gene H. "Skip" Gadwah of North Haverhill; a daughter, Lisa L. Gadwah and husband Mike of Woodsville; five grandchildren; a brother, Wendell A. Arsenault and wife Lyn of Massachusetts; two nieces and several cousins. A calling hour will be held Tuesday, July 15, from 7-8 p.m., in the Ricker Funeral Home, 1 Birch St., Woodsville, N.H. , of Jefferson, N.H., passed away Saturday, July 12, 2003, at the Coos County Nursing Hospital, West Stewartstown, N.H. She would have been 91 on July 21. "Ginny" was born in Liberty, Maine, the daughter of Leonard and Ora (Newhall) Clark. Mrs. Turner worked at Spalding Inn for 22 summers in many capacities and tended the Spalding family in the winters. She worked at the Mountain View for 10 years before becoming a homemaker. She enjoyed trying new recipes. She and Arnold had large gardens each year and enjoyed canning the fruits of their labor. Mrs. Turner was a devout Christian lady who loved to help others. She was also a great animal lover. Family members include her husband of 50 years, Arnold K. Turner of Jefferson; a daughter, JoAnn Garland Dobson Pearce of Lancaster; three grandsons, Kenneth Dobson Sr. of Jefferson, Vernon Dobson of Alna, Maine, and Frederick Dobson of Wiscasset, Maine; a granddaughter, Dareleen Dobson of East Boothbay, Maine; 10 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. , 81, a long-time resident of Lyman, N.H., died Monday, July 7, 2003 at the Hanover Terrace Nursing Facility in Hanover, N.H., following a lengthy battle with diabetes and Parkinson's disease. He is survived by his wife, Betty Jane Trudell, to whom he had been married for 59 years. Born in Montreal, Canada, Oct. 1, 1921, he was the son of the late Henry Trudell and the late Louise (Savageau) Trudell. Mr. Trudell spent his childhood years in Londonderry and Manchester, N.H., graduating from Manchester High School in 1940. A veteran of World War II, he served in the United States Navy as a boatswain's mate. Mr. Trudell had experience in various occupations throughout his work years, ranging from the building of railroad engines, baking, operating large equipment, to drilling and construction of homes. He had been a member of the Masonic Lodge in his younger years, and enjoyed many activities in his lifetime, such as horses, fishing, football and reading. However, his greatest joy was spending time with his children. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his three sons and their wives, Russell and Priscilla Trudell of Lyman, Michael and Christina Trudell of Lisbon, and James and Donna Trudell of Lyman; his daughter Nancy T. Carbonneau and husband George Achilles Carbonneau of Lisbon; and four grandchildren. Services will be held privately. , 96, formerly of 20 Elm Street, Littleton, and recently of the Lafayette Center in Franconia, N.H., passed away July 13 at Littleton Regional Hospital. She was born a daughter of Joseph and Albertine (Montambault) Laveau, June 20, 1907, in Kennebunkport, Maine. Medora enjoyed working in her flower gardens, and visiting with family and friends. She loved cats and always had one as a companion. , of Wilmington, N.C., died Monday, July 14, 2003, at Cape Fear Hospital. She was born July 21, 1927 in Williamstown, Vt., daughter of the late Frank E.W. Smith and Mary White Smith, and was preceded in death by her first husband of 37 years, Richard H. Emmons. Mrs. Parenteau owned and operated her own weight control counseling service in New Hampshire and Vermont, and was the first to teach classes for diabetics in three hospitals. For seven years she had a call-in radio show on weight control and nutrition in Vermont. Upon retirement in 1986, she moved to Wilmington, N.C., and taught weight control at the Senior Center for New Hanover County. She served on the Speakers Bureau for the Department of Aging and was a member of the Home and Community Block Grant Advisory Committee. Mrs. Parenteau was a member of the Extension Homemakers for 43 years, and served on the advisory board for Extension Services for New Hanover County where she was named Extension Homemaker of the Year in 1995. She was an instructor for AARP 55 Alive, and served on the executive committee for the Senior Tarheel Legislature for 10 years, also serving as secretary. In 1995, Mrs. Parenteau was recognized as Woman in Success by New Hanover Committee for Women, the League of Women Voters, and CP & L Women's Council. She was honored by the Council of Governors in 1998 for her volunteer work. Mrs. Parenteau is survived by her husband of 17 years, Wilfred Parenteau, who resides at Britthaven of Jacksonville, N.C.; a daughter, Sherron E. Arenz and husband Heinz of Williston; one son, David Richard Emmons of Englewood, Fla.; three grandchildren, Amee Perham and husband Rob, Jason Andreasson and friend Hutton Dart, and PFC Caribou Emmons; and two great-grandchildren, Karissa Bills, and Morgan Turgeon. , passed away Monday, July 14, 2003, at the Fletcher Allen Hospital in Burlington, surrounded by his family. He was born in Charlotte, Vt., Aug. 28, 1936, the son of Elodien and Lena LaBerge, who predeceased him. He worked at GE in Burlington for many years, where he received an appreciation award in May 1960; Hazletts Strip Casting in Mallets Bay for 22 years; and campground owner during the summer from 1985 until his death, and worked for LaBerge Printing in Orlando, Fla., in the winter. He graduated from Middlebury schools, playing various sports and was involved in many school activities. He coached South Burlington Little League and Babe Ruth Baseball, and youth football and basketball. He was an active member of the South Burlington Rebels for many years and a member of the South Burlington Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed playing golf and was a member of the Orleans Country Club. He is survived by his wife, Frances Oney LaBerge; his children, Kathryn and husband Fred Hickey Jr. of Nashua, N.H.; Robert Jr. and wife Sylvie of Jacksonville, Fla., Richard and wife Valerie of Plano, Ill., M. Reed and Flora A. Rice of Sheldon. He graduated from St. Johnsbury Academy, Class of 1931, and attended Bryant-Stratton College in Boston. He married Marion Lumbra. He owned and operated Reed Supply Co. in St. Johnsbury, retiring in 1973. He was a member of North Congregational Church where he served as treasurer for three years and also was instrumental in the remodeling project at the church. He served as trustee and later became chairman of the board at Passumpsic Savings Bank from 1977-1985, was one of four founders of the Little League Baseball; he also coached for a time. He was a secretary of the St. Johnsbury Chamber of Commerce, an on-call firefighter for the town of St. Johnsbury for a number of years, and a member of the St. Johnsbury Rotary Club. Carlyle and Marion spent 29 winters in St. Petersburg, Fla. , of Danville, died peacefully July 11, 2003, just one day before his 88th birthday. George was born in 1915 in Utica, N.Y., the son of Cecil Schwartze Lyon and William Doane Lyon. He is survived by his two children, Lory Ingela Cecil deBary Lyon, and George Cecil Olof Lyon; his grandson, Zander Cecil Wildes Dyson; as well as his brother, William Doane Lyon Jr. George spent his childhood years in Madison, Conn., raising dogs with his mother. From an early age, George felt a strong connection and kinship with animals that would stay with him all his life. From 1930-1934, George attended Avon Old Farm School where it became clear that he had an exceptional gift for both athletics and art. In his sophomore year he was elected captain of both the hockey and football team. He also held the highest scoring record for the acclaimed Avon hockey team until his graduation and beyond. George then went on to attend Yale University and the University of Virginia and obtain masters in both studio art and art history. He was considered to be the top artist in his class, at that time, and continued to be passionate about art throughout his life through painting, sculpture, woodworking and architecture. During World War II George attempted to enlist in the U.S. Armed Forces, but was rejected due to health problems. He then decided to enlist with the American Field Service under British command. On his maiden voyage to war, George's ship was torpedoed leaving behind only a handful of survivors. After two days of floating around on wreckage, an ally ship came into view. The ship was being chased by a German submarine and so could only make one quick pass for the survivors. Miraculously they all managed to be thrown on deck. George remembered looking out across the vast expanse of the ocean to the awesome sight of a school of killer whales on the horizon. He said he never felt more thankful to be alive. After returning home, George bravely enlisted a second time in the American Field Service. He was posted in Burma as an ambulance driver for the front lines! a gruesome job that would haunt George for the rest of his life. He had tears in his eyes as he relayed stories, then 40 years old, of men crying out in pain as he tried desperately to avoid all the bumps in the road. On one occasion, exhausted and distraught from the heat, George began to cry hearing the agonizing moans of his passengers. The officer sitting next to him, whose arm was holding on by a thread, touched his shoulder, smiled and said, "Hang in there, kid! you're doing a great job." After the war, George returned home to renovate a 1600s house in Essex, Conn., to historical perfection! a job that would award him an article in the New York Times as a visionary artist and architect. During these years, he sailed many trips to Barbados, Wis., on his famous sailboat "Inga" and met his wife of 18 years Mona Soderstrom Lyon. George spent the next 20 years traveling between Essex and Barbados where he had restored a landmark, historical windmill, to be his home, known as The Roundhouse. Finally, George and Mona and their daughter Lory traveled to Danville, Vt., in 1969, where they would have their son Cecil and begin a life raising Morgan horses. During the next 34 years, it was George's dream to breed the ideal Morgan horse. He strove to perpetuate in his herd the versatility, strength, and beauty that the Morgan had become famous for. George had an insatiable passion for raising horses and delighted in watching them gallop and race around the pastures. He took great pride in the hundreds of championships that he and his horses earned over the years and even participated in the 100-mile Vermont Cross State Trail Ride when he was in his 60s on his horse Bell Mountain Ajax. Needless-to-say, the Danville Morgan Horse Farm remained a great passion in George's life until his death and is still beautifully maintained by his son Cecil. So many details make up a life, but it is only the essence of a person's spirit that we are left with at the end of the day. George was an incredible spirit A force of nature unto himself, who courageously transformed his pain and suffering into a vision of beauty for the world around him. He understood that life was full of hardships, but refused to give up on his dreams. He was a courageous and passionate man who lived life by extremes. His painful experiences and innate love for nature and animals gave him a depth of compassion that was both poetic and painful. He felt life profoundly with the vision of an artist and survivor who could see the subtle beauty in the simplest of places. George once said to me, "It's ironic isn't it, maturity walks in the front door, and the undertaker steps in the back."! A painful testament to the lessons of time! first comes the painful stretch of the body in growth, and then, with the deterioration of the body, comes the painful stretch of the mind. We all know George is still out there in the storm riding his horse Ajax bareback across the fields and up the mountains! galloping through the woods, over the water, and across the sky. His passion and humor will never be forgotten for he was a man who left his mark in the hearts of many. A celebration of George's life will be held Sept. 20 at 4 p.m. at the farm in Danville. , 89, of Lyndonville, died Saturday, July 19, 2003 at the Pines Rehabilitation and Health Center. Gwen was born Aug. 3, 1913 in the Bronx, N.Y., the daughter of Robert J. and Florence M. (Knickell) Harvey. She graduated from Pratt Institute, where she studied art and met her future husband, Calvin E. McCormick; they were married Sept. 30, 1934. Gwen enjoyed painting, sculpting, needlework and all fine arts; she was accomplished in several media, including charcoal, oil, watercolor and acrylic. Whenever able she voluntarily committed her time and energy to efforts that would help others, and received formal recognition for her years of volunteer hospital service. She was an intelligent and vibrant lady; she had a love and appreciation for a full range of classical and popular music and a keen understanding of operatic themes. She had a great sense of humor, and she enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and abroad. Above all her husband and family were the love of her life; she fully enjoyed life and sought to make the most of all it had to offer. Survivors include four children, Dennis McCormick and wife Deborah of Reston, Va., Judith Joiner and husband Thomas of Houston, Texas, Barry McCormick and Beverly Simblest of Lyndonville, and Marcia Tomlinson of Bradford; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. , 95, died Saturday, July 19, 2003, at the Pines Rehabilitation and Health Center in Lyndon. The son of William H. and Esther M. (Morse) Clifford, he was born March 16, 1908 in North Danville. He graduated from St. Johnsbury Academy, Class of 1926. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps, serving in both the Italian and North African campaigns. He married Maye Doran, who predeceased him in 1983. He later married Arda Remick, who predeceased him June 14, 2003. Wally was an installer/repairman for New England Telephone for many years; he loved farming, the farm and the cattle; and he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Wally is survived by his son, Terry Clifford and wife Wanetta of Danville; two stepdaughters, Dorothy Nelson and husband Keith, and Elizabeth Yoder and husband Gary, all of Sanford, N.C.; three grandchildren, Pamela Clifford of Glover, Patrick Clifford of Danville, and Anne Rockwell and husband Ralph of Bolton; and two great-grandchildren, Andrew and Kaitlin Rockwell. He was predeceased by a sister, Edith Clifford, in 1986. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, July 22 at 11 a.m. at the Pope Cemetery in Danville, with the Rev. Steven Winkler officiating. , 84, passed away early Sunday morning, July 20, 2003, at the St. Johnsbury Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was born in Newport, Maine, Sept. 13, 1918, the daughter of the late James E. and Daisy (Miner) Ireland. She became a registered nurse upon graduation from New England Women and Children's Hospital in Roxbury, Mass., in 1939. She served as an American Red Cross nurse in the 1960s. Mrs. Gibson was predeceased by her husband, George K. Gibson, Oct. 26, 2001. The Gibsons were residents of Florida for 24 years and summer residents of Harvey's Lake in West Barnet since 1983. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star. She was pleased to have attended Grace United Methodist Church, which lovingly embraced her into the church family. She is survived by her two daughters, Caroline Keyser and husband Budd of Cape Coral, Fla., and Laurie Bedard and husband Peter of St. Johnsbury; one brother, James E. Ireland Jr. and wife Constance of Opa-Locka, Fla.; six grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. A graveside service for friends and family will be held Wednesday, July 30 at 10 a.m. at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in St. Johnsbury. Following the service a light luncheon will be served at the Grace United Methodist Church. There will be no visiting hours. , 90, passed away Saturday, July 19, 2003, at the Green Mountain Nursing Home in Colchester, with her children at her side. Genevieve was predeceased by her husband, Dr. Franklin G. Hovey of St. Johnsbury, in 1972. She was born in Middlebury, Aug. 1, 1912, the daughter of the late Elmer and Lena Wolcott. Genevieve was a dental hygiene graduate from Rochester Dental Dispensary in Rochester, N.Y., and was one of the first licensed dental hygienists in the state of Vermont. Genevieve was actively involved with the North Congregational Church of St. Johnsbury, and her professional accomplishments included serving as a director on the board of the Citizens Savings Bank and Trust Co., former director of the board of Sunset Home and past president of BPW. She is survived by her son, Franklin II and wife Donna and their children Franklin III, Matthew, Jennifer Lewis, and Christopher Lewis of St. Johnsbury; and her daughter, Susan Mercia and husband William and their children Daniel, Jeffrey and Jackson of Hinesburg, Vt. Genevieve loved life's simple pleasures. Country life, card games, Red Sox baseball and time spent with family and friends were particularly important to her. We will miss her warmth, sincerity, engaging way and ever-present smile. At Genevieve's request, there will be no visiting hours or funeral service. , 59, of West Street, Groveton, died suddenly, July 20, 2003, after a lengthy illness. Born March 20, 1944, in Lancaster, a daughter of Mitchel and Cynthia (Brigham) Chilafoe, she had been a resident of Groveton since 1968, moving from Lancaster. Along with being a loving mother, she used to do private housekeeping and babysitting. She collected dolls, and Elvis and John Wayne memorabilia. She loved cooking, sewing, drawing and gardening. She also used to make wedding cakes and other specialty cakes. Beverly is survived by her mother, Cynthia Chilafoe of Lancaster; her husband of 42 years, Donald R. Bilodeau of Groveton; a son, Robert Bilodeau of Seabrook, N.H.; a daughter, Robin Rich of Lancaster; four grandchildren; two sisters, Eunice Levesque of Groveton, and Bonnie Drew of Lancaster; two brothers, Paul Chilafoe and Thomas Chilafoe, both of Littleton; and nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. , 78, a longtime resident of Island Pond, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, July 22, 2003, at his home. He was born in Island Pond March 29, 1925, the son of George and Maria (St. Pierre) Gillis. Archie served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of World War II. He worked for the Canadian National Railroad for over 30 years. On Feb. 2, 1952, Archie married the former Alice R. Carr, who survives him. He is also survived by his children, Dave Gillis and wife Linda of North Carolina, Betty Biggs and husband Paul of Barre, Brian Gillis of Shelburne, Steve Gillis and wife Laura of Alaska, and Donna Chesney and husband Roger of Island Pond; his brother, J. Albert Gillis of Burlington; 14 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Scott; and a sister, Gertrude Bulakites. , 48, a Sutton resident, died Sunday, July 20, 2003, at her home surrounded by her family. She was the daughter of Charles A. and Ina R. (Descoteaux) Belanger. She was born Dec. 10, 1954 in Coaticook, Quebec, Canada. She was a member of the Worldwide Church of God in Montpelier, active in the Sutton School and served as the secretary/treasurer of the parent teacher organization for a time. She was involved in the Foster Parent program, sheltering youths. She enjoyed the peace and tranquility of her home and family, and also enjoyed swimming with family and friends in the area lakes. She was a dedicated wife, mother and a hard worker who will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Survivors include her husband, Leslie I. Hunt, and two sons, Ira C. and James C., all of Sutton; a brother, Charles Belanger and wife Colleen of Sutton; in-laws, Robert and Rita Hunt of Haverhill, Mass., and James Hunt and companion Viola Merrill of St. Johnsbury; her Caledonian-Record and church families; and extended family in both the U.S. and Canada. , 79, of Littleton, died Sunday, July 20, 2003, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H. He was born March 14, 1924 in Bridgeport, Conn., the son of Henry L. and Lois (Mickens) Knopf. He was a graduate of Milford High School. A veteran of World War II, he served as an aviation mechanic 2nd class. He was stationed in Hawaii and aboard the USS Casco, a seaplane tender, in Saipan. In recent years, he and his wife enjoyed traveling to USS Casco reunions all over the United States. In 1955 he married Betty Greene. He worked for 20 years at Singer Manufacturing Company in Bridgeport, Conn., until their operations were moved overseas. In 1975 he went to work for Burndy Corporation in Norwalk, Conn. The next year when Burndy opened a new plant in Littleton, he and his family were transferred there. He worked as the maintenance supervisor for 17 years until his retirement. In 1987 he was honored as a Burndy Medalist Winner (silver) along with seven others from all over the world for his contributions to the company. He was an avid sailor, having belonged to the Milford Yacht Club for almost 40 years. He began sailing Snipes at age 15 and then after the war, began sailing Stars, a class boat. He and Betty bought "Berbet" in 1955 and spent summer weekends racing on Long Island Sound and also traveling up and down the East Coast to various regattas. Upon moving to New Hampshire he rekindled an old interest in golf and spent much time playing in various golf leagues. He had been a member of both the Bethlehem and Maplewood Country Clubs. He and Betty loved to garden and spent many hours working in their beautiful flower and vegetable gardens. He was an active member of the Howard-Shawney VFW Post 816. He held various offices, was on the firing squad, and ran Monday night bingo. He was also a member of the Strong-Nourse American Legion Post. Surviving family members include his daughter, Elizabeth Moreau of Saco, Maine; and a sister, Barbara Knopf of Stratford, Conn. He was predeceased by his wife Betty. The family will receive friends Thursday, July 24, from 10-11:30 a.m. at the Pillsbury Funeral Home, 101 Union St., Littleton. A memorial service will follow at 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Final committal rights and military honors will be held graveside in the Glenwood Cemetery in Littleton, following the memorial service at the funeral home.

, 72, of Kirby, died at home with his wife by his side, Monday, July 21, 2003, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Frank was born in Milwaukee, Wis., to Frank and Margaret "Dolly" (Pekel) Metzke, Nov. 29, 1930. He grew up in East Troy, Wis., and graduated from East Troy High School. He earned a bachelor's in biology at Marquette University and a master's degree in biology at St. Mary's College, Winona, Minn. Frank served in the U.S. Army in Panama. He taught in Wisconsin for over 30 years and retired to Vermont in 1989 after teaching biology and coaching football in East Troy High School. Frank was a man of many interests. He played football for Marquette University and was drafted to play football for the Los Angeles Rams. He coached football for many years. Frank was an avid outdoorsman and ecologist. He had a profound respect for the natural world which he shared with students, friends and family. He had many interests and hobbies including photography, beekeeping, making wine, painting, fishing, hunting, dog training and collecting. He wrote poetry, books for his children, and during his final months wrote poems for his family. Until his illness, Frank rarely missed a day of ice fishing in Vermont. His trout breakfasts were legend. He was a fiercely independent man who was devoted to his family. His care and love for them was treasured. Frank is survived by Linda (Kuzan), his wife of 37 years; four daughters, Pamela and husband Lyle, Patricia, Sharyn, and Michelle; two sons, Frank David, and Mark; his in-laws, Frank and Florence Kuzan; two sisters, Marilyn Metzke, and Beatrice Lawlor; two brothers-in-law, Frank Kuzan and wife Sherry, and John Kuzan and wife Gaile; and nieces, nephews and cousins. Frank was predeceased by a sister, Virginia Brandt. , 100, of Waterbury, died Thursday, July 17, 2003, in her 100th year, at the home of her son in Lyndonville, where she resided the last six months due to her illness. She was born Oct. 5, 1903, in New Brunswick, N.J., the daughter of Arthur M. and Mae (Crosley) Tracy. She married Orlando Robbins in Waterbury, April 15, 1927. Ethel came to the Waterbury area when she was 12 years old with the Tracy family after her mother died. In her early years, she worked as a domestic in the Waterbury and Waterbury Center area. She worked at the Vermont State Hospital for several years where she met her husband who also worked there. Ethel had resided for the past 70-plus years at her home on South Main Street in Waterbury. She was the family historian with an excellent memory. She liked to discuss the past and the changes she had lived through, was an excellent cook, touched many people through her life and recently had 40 people attend an early birthday party for her. Survivors include her sister, Josephine Longley of Windsor Locks, Conn.; a son, Edward Robbins of Lyndonville; a daughter, Myrtle LaFrance of North Haven, Conn.; 13 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Orlando; a son, Ernest of Williston; her sisters, May Russell, Ida Cubit, and Evelyn Zietler; and a brother, Arthur Tracy. A graveside service will be held Saturday, July 26 at 2 p.m. at the Waterbury Center Cemetery, with David Peterson officiating.

, 75, of 2529 South Bayley-Hazen Road, Ryegate, died unexpectedly, Tuesday, July 22, 2003 at his residence. He was born May 17, 1928 in Terryville, Conn., the son of Walter and Agnes (Tuymeson) Wilson. On March 25, 1950, he married Eugenia Lombardi. Mr. Wilson served with the U.S. Army in the Korean War. Prior to moving to Ryegate in 1985, he worked as a production mover for the Barnes Group in Bristol, Conn., retiring after 34 years of employment. Surviving relatives include his wife of 53 years, Eugenia L. Wilson of Ryegate; two daughters, Dianna M. Barata of Middletown, Conn., and Donna Maria Borzelliere of Staten Island, N.Y.; two grandsons, Michael Barata and wife Chrissy of Wells River, and Jason Borzelliere; one granddaughter, Gina Papaioannou of Waterbury, Conn.; three great-grandsons; one great-granddaughter; one great-great-granddaughter; and a very close friend, Frank Jacquette of Bristol, Conn. , 83, of Danbury, Conn., died Saturday, July 19, 2003, at Danbury Hospital after a long illness. He was born in Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada, June 28, 1920, a son of the late Robert H. and Mabel (Gero) Paris, of Glover and Lyndonville, Vt. Mr. Paris was employed by the town of Ridgefield, Conn., until his retirement in 1985. He is survived by his wife, Prudence Clap Paris; their two daughters, Cherie Robinson and Robin Paris, both of Danbury, Conn.; two sons, Paul Paris of Bethel, Conn., and Edmund Paris of Danbury, Conn.; four children from a previous marriage, Carol A. Green of Warren, Maine, Eileen F. Might of Danville, Va., Donald S. Paris of Dryfork, Va., and Robert L. Paris of Milton, Vt.; two brothers, Lloyd Paris of Lyndonville, and Robert Paris of Danbury, Conn.; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. , 79, of East Concord, Vt., died Tuesday, July 22, 2003, at the Pines Rehabilitation and Health Center in Lyndonville. He was born in Lawrence, Mass., Sept. 12, 1923, a son of David Comeau and Ida Michaud Comeau, attending schools in North Stratford, N.H. After enlisting in the U.S. Army in 1943, Emile became a member of the 82nd Airborne Division during World War II, serving under General John Gavin. As a paratrooper during the war he served in many European countries, including Germany, France, Belgium and Holland. The two most memorable battles of his military career were Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge. He received an honorable discharge from military service in 1946. Emile was a lifelong baseball fan, following and supporting the Red Sox for many years. His love of the sport began during his army career, where he was honored by playing an exhibition game against the St. Louis Cardinals. His memories of parachuting behind enemy lines and playing this game of baseball stayed with him to the end of his life. He worked for over 40 years in the trucking business, followed by employment as a custodian at the Gilman Elementary School and driver of the Senior Van for the Area Agency on Aging in Lyndonville. He continued to be employed by the Senior Action Center until his health declined to the point where he was homebound. Next to his family, Emile's greatest enjoyment came from his work, his daily contact with people (especially children), and the outdoors. Emile was a direct descendant of the Mic Mac tribe, originating in northern New England. His love of nature and ability to commune with living things was a testament to this strong Native American heritage. He was married to Pauline Dupont on Aug. 14, 1948. They have been residents of East Concord for 45 years. Emile was predeceased by his parents; and six brothers, Philip, Gilbert, Edward, Joseph, William and David. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Pauline (Dupont) Comeau; two daughters, Jackie Chase of Strafford, Vt., and Brenda Danielson of Hartland, Vt.; one son, Perry Comeau of Lyndonville; four grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and extended family; and his two favorite (canine) companions, Barney and Joe. Emile's friendly nature, smiling face and sense of humor, even in the final stages of his illness, were enjoyed and appreciated by all who knew him. He will be greatly missed. Final commitment rights will be held graveside in the Riverside Cemetery in South Lunenburg, Sunday, July 27, at 1 p.m. A celebration of Emile's life will follow, beginning at 3 p.m., at the VFW on Hill Street in Lyndonville. , 94, Walden's oldest known resident, died Saturday, July 26, 2003, at the St. Johnsbury Health and Rehabilitation Center in St. Johnsbury. She was born April 23, 1909 in Cabot, the daughter of the late Frank H. and Susie (Woods) McCormick. She attended Walden public schools. On June 12, 1929, she married Ernest Jared Ainsworth in Danville. They purchased a family farm in Walden, where she has made her home for more than 74 years. Irene was a homemaker. She was the oldest member of the Danville Congregational Church, and a charter member of the Walden Home Dem. She enjoyed reading, knitting, sewing, cooking and canning. Survivors include two daughters, Miss Patricia Ainsworth of Walden, and Mrs. Norma Clifford and husband Ronald of Richmond; four grandsons, Michael Clifford of Manchester, N.H., Dennis Clifford and wife Fran of Centennial, Colo., Jeffrey Clifford of Portland, Maine, and Robert Clifford of Essex Junction; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband Ernest, March 2, 1985. Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. 70, of Gilman, died Friday evening, July 25, 2003, at the Littleton Regional Hospital. She was born Nov. 16, 1932 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, the daughter of the late Alphonse and Grace (Hoare) Bellefountaine. On March 6, 1956, she married Lawrence R. Humphrey. Nellie and her family lived in Nashua, N.H., for 28 years. She worked many years as a tester of aircraft instruments for Kolsman Manufacturing Co. in Nashua. Later she worked at Butson's Market in Littleton. In recent years she was a member of the Senior Center of Gilman. Nellie enjoyed bowling, attending yard sales, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. Survivors include her husband of 47 years, Lawrence Humphrey of Gilman; four sons, Kenneth Humphrey and companion Donna Winslow of Bethlehem, N.H., Lon Joseph Humphrey of Gilman, Stephen Humphrey of Gilman, and Nathan Humphrey of Nashua; two daughters, Rosina Despres and husband George of Mason, N.H., and Klara Humphrey of Gilman; 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Michael Bellefountaine and wife Betty of Prince Edward Island, and Kenneth Bellfountaine and wife Wanda of Calgary, Alberta. She was predeceased by her son, Lawrence Humphrey in 1985; and her sister, Rita Rosina Dingwall. Services and burial will be held at the convenience of the family.

, 75, passed away suddenly, Saturday, July 26, 2003. He was a longtime St. Johnsbury resident of 111 Railroad St., and summer resident at Joe's Pond. He was born in St. Johnsbury, July 7, 1928, the son of Adelard "Delora" and Irene (Couture) Guyer. His father died in 1981, and his mother in 1983. In the aftermath of World War II, he served in the Navy for four years, 1945-1949. He came back to St. Johnsbury and worked in the drafting department at Fairbanks Morse. Bob had two main careers in his life: he retired from EHV-Weidmann as a production supervisor; and previously he had been a drainage foreman for Laperle Construction. The family camp on Joe's Pond was a longtime source of pleasure for Bob as it was for his parents. There he developed a passion for the restoration of old boats, the building of new ones and the restoration of antique outboard motors. He was also a longtime photography enthusiast. He is survived by a sister, Lucille Routhier and husband George of Laconia, N.H.; a nephew, Marc Routhier and wife Riitta of Frostburg, Md.; two nieces, Denise Finn and husband Dennis of Kittery, Maine, and Lisa Routhier of Los Angeles Calif.; a close cousin, Raymond Poliquin of Woodsville, N.H.; and other cousins. He was also predeceased by a nephew, Martin Routhier in 1998. Funeral services will be held at the Sayles Funeral Home, Tuesday, July 29 at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Robert H. Sargent officiating. , 79, of 3857 Bayley Hazen Road, Peacham, died early Monday morning, July 28, 2003, at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital, after an extended illness. She was born in Goffstown, N.H., Dec. 2, 1923, the daughter of F. Arthur and Dorothy (Taylor) Bartlett. Ruth graduated from Keene Teachers College, Class of 1945. Upon graduation she taught in Andover, N.H., for one year, and at Peacham Academy for two years. On June 20, 1948, she married Maurice F. Chandler, to whom she was married for 55 years. She was a member of the Peacham Congregational Church for over 50 years; member of the church choir; superintendent of the Sunday school where she also taught; member of Lakeview Grange; ballot clerk for the town of Peacham; and a school bus driver for the town of Peacham. In later years she was a substitute teacher at Peacham Academy and she was a member of the American Disability Act Committee. She and her husband were the first people who took care of the custodial duties at Peacham Elementary School when the school first opened. In her later years she was an avid reader, a gifted poet, she enjoyed arts and crafts, and especially valued family time above all else. Surviving relatives include her husband, Maurice F. Chandler of Peacham; two daughters, Gloria J. Chandler and companion Francis L. Keith III of Pittsford, Vt., and Patricia N. Blake and husband Robert F. Blake of West Rutland; two sons, Alan M. Chandler and wife Donna L. Chandler of Georgia, Vt., and Paul L. Chandler of Peacham; three grandsons; three granddaughters; one great-grandson; one sister, Esther Galinat of Fryeburg, Maine; one brother-in-law, Clifton Chandler of California; several nieces, nephews and cousins; longtime friend and caregiver Ann Goss; former daughter-in-law, longtime friend and part-time caregiver Darlene Gauthier; and a devoted friend and fellow reader, George Spaulding. She was predeceased by her brother, Henry Bartlett, who was killed during World War II.
