HOWE / ABBOT
Researching Hezekiah Howe and his wife Betsey Abbott.
They were married in Williamstown Vt. On Dec. 30th 1807.
Five children were born in Williamstown and then the family
moved to Trumbull County Ohio in 1817.
I have found their marriage records and record of the children's birth.
The puzzle piece that doesn't seem to fit, is this couple
(according to the Abbott Family Book of Genealogy) was married in Holden,
Worcester Co., Massachusetts exactly a year earlier. (Dec. 1806).
This "first marriage" was a parish record. The second marriage" is a town record.
The Howe Family Book of Genealogy lists the Vermont marriage.
My questions are:
1. Would a second marriage be required in Vermont to make it "legal"?
2. Did Betsey move into Williamstown just before her marriage?
I am hoping someone who is familiar with the Howe family in Vermont
will have the answers to my questions.
Thanks
Jim Taylor
