BATTIST / BATTEASE Battist/Battease John -John Battist was an Abenaki Indian Ranger under Capt. John Vincent during the Rev. War. John was born in St. John Canada (then an indian settlement) now no longer there as the natives moved to St. Francis. John was considered a St. Francis Indian. Family tradition has it John was married 3 times, once in Canada where he left a family then settled in Vermont with a wife Mary........... and later married again and had a daughter Betsey in 1832. Betsey claimed to be born in Burlington, Vermont. Her half brother who was b c 1809 also claimed to be born in Burlington, Vermont. There is a John Bettis buried in Essex I believe, that was 101 and I am trying to figure out if he is my John and if not what happened to my John. Lorraine Carrington show email address
