, a New York native and current East Burke resident, passed away Saturday, May 21, 2011 at his residence following a lengthy illness. Jack was born February 16, 1931 in Bronx, NY, son of the late John and Elizabeth (Ford) Geheran. He married his best friend and long time companion, Lisa A. Smith, on October 29, 2004 in East Burke, VT. Jack served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was an iron worker and member of the Iron Worker Local #40 NYC. Jack helped in the building of the World Trade Center buildings. He later spent many hours in the rescue and recovery efforts at ground zero of the World Trade Center tragedy. He received a letter of thanks from Pres. and Mrs. Bush for his heroic efforts at that time. He enjoyed traveling, and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Lyndonville Post #10038. Aside from his family, iron working was his greatest joy. He retired in 1993 and moved to East Burke, but returned to work part time and was at the Trade Center at the time of their fall. He is survived by his loving wife, Lisa Geheran of East Burke; his children, John Geheran of Southbury, CT, Carolyn McDonough, Mark and Janice Geheran, Mary and Gary Laird all of Long Island, NY; his former wife and mother of his children, Eileen O'Connell; six grandchildren; best friend, Paul Hallinan. He was predeceased by a son-in-law, James McDonough and "Duke." , 92, of Route 5 died Sunday, December 18, 2011 at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital in St. Johnsbury, VT. Born on December 7, 1919 in Virgil, Illinois, she was the daughter of Henry & Susanna (Hamsmith) Butt. In earlier years, she was employed at the Elgin Watch Factory and later movied to Revere, Mass, where she raised her family. In 1980, she moved to Lawrence, Mass and subsequently moved to Haverhill, NH and then in 2008 to McIndoe Falls, VT. Being a Gold Star Mother, she was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary in Saugus, Mass for many years. She loved to play bingo, nature, especially wildflowers and bird watching (Hummingbirds). She also loved to travel and enjoyed trips "back home" to Illinois. She is pre-deceased by her son Warrant Officer Walter S. Olinsky, Jr., (1969-Vietnam), first husband Walter S. Olinsky, Sr., (1974), second husband Edward Gudek (2011), brothers: Charles, Robert, Henry, John, James, and Arthur Butt and sisters: Anne Faber, Martha Kirchmann, and Lucy Mogler. She leaves two daughters Mrs Hal (Bonnie) Ellis of East Ryegate, VT and Mrs Victor (Sue Ann) Mandell of Boynton Beach, FL. A son Mark Olinsky of Dracut, Mass. She enjoyed meeting and talking with people, and she especially enjoyed her children and grandchildren. , a Waterford resident passed way Thursday, October 20, 2011 at the Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital following a vigorous fight with Melanoma. He was 65. He was born September 2, 1946 in St. Johnsbury. He is the son of the late Lawrence and Helen (Orcutt) Kelsey. He was raised in Concord and then moved to Rutland where he started graded school and completed high school. Donald graduated from Vermont Techical College. He married Ella M. Dickerman on February 28, 1988 in St. Johnsbury. Donald enjoyed carpentry and utilizing his technical skills with wood. He built his camp at Miles Pond at age 26 with help from his dad and uncle, and later his home in Waterford with assistance from friends and relatives; he was a life member of Caledonia Forest and Stream. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, 4-wheeling and the great outdoors. Don really enjoyed modern technology for use in the out of doors especially that of the handy GPS, maps and other devices that would help one have a safe and enjoyable time. He did extensive research on ballistics for muzzle loading as this was one of his passions. He worked for Fairbanks and Lydall Industries as an Electrical Engineer. He is survived by his loving wife, Ella of Waterford, step children, Allison Wright-Roberts and husband Chad of Wheelock, Don's grandchildren, Hannah and Jack; step daughter, Karen Wright and husband Keith Winters of Peoria, AZ. Don was excited for Karen and Keith's first child "baby Alex" another grandson due in December. , November 5, 1918 - January 8, 2011. Born in Tacoma, Washington, to John Cecil and Mary (Holbrook) Black, she spent the better part of her childhood and her adult life in and around Evanston, Illinois. While in high school she started giving piano lessons, an avocation she continued well into her seventies. She graduated from National College of Education in 1942 and spent the next 27 years teaching first grade on the West Coast and in Illinois. In 1948 she married the artist William Marsh and in the early 1970's they moved to Vermont where Bill continued his painting and Lucia worked part time at area schools and taught piano to many area children. She was predeceased by her husband and by many relatives and friends in Vermont, Illinois and through the country. At her request, no memorial service is planned. Interment will be in the Marsh family plot at Green Mount Cemetery, Burlington, Vermont. She will be remembered with affection, admiration, and gratitude by her remaining friends and relatives and by a host of her former students.

, 89, passed away on Tuesday, August 16, 2011, at her home in West Burke. The daughter of Fred Barron and Jennie Tindall Barron, Jean was born in Alma, Michigan, in 1921 and grew up in Chicago, Illinois. She was a graduate of Hirsch High School in Chicago and attended Morgan Park Junior College there. She married Bruce McGregor in 1943. Jean and Bruce and their four children moved to Wakefield, Massachusetts, in 1954. In 1960, the family moved to West Burke, Vermont, as a consequence of Bruce becoming a partner in the Shonyo Packing Company in Lyndonville. Jean was employed for more than 25 years at the Lyndonville Savings Bank and Trust Company. Jean had been a Girl Scout troop leader, and was a member of DAR and of the Order of the Eastern Star. As a girl, she was honored queen of her Job's Daughters Bethel Lodge in Illinois. She enjoyed golf, bowling, bridge, travel, cross-country skiing and snowmobiling. Shortly after retiring, Jean and Bruce traveled around the country with their travel trailer. They were members of the 251 Club and enjoyed touring Vermont with their friends, documenting their visits to the State's towns and villages. She volunteered with the Lifeline program for several years. In her later years, she also liked to read, knit, do crossword puzzles and visit with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by sons, Brian of Putney, Vermont, Keith of West Burke, Vermont; daughter, Linda Wheeler of Schodack, NY; grandchildren, Steven Scotten of San Francisco, California, Robert McGregor of Milton, Vermont, Tennille McGregor of Rutland, Vermont. She also leaves four great-grandchildren, Haven McGregor, Justin McGregor, Noah Purviance, Carter McGregor and Cameron McGregor. She was predeceased by her husband, Bruce, and son, Douglas. Joyce was born in Ewing, Nebraska to William and Elsie Gunter. Joyce was predeceased by her husband, Anthony Joseph Montalvan, two grandchildren Eric Montalvan and Keith Bronson Magee. She also, leaves behind her daughter, Toni Jeanne Magee and her husband, John of Lower Waterford, VT; her son Richard E. Montalvan of Redding, CA, and his wife, Casilda; her sister Everal Wood of Paradise, CA.; and three grandchildren, Lisa Eddy of Redding, CA, Michele Hall and Husband Eric of Las Vegas, Nevada and Jennifer Donato and husband Frank and four great grandchildren, Taylor and Gillian Donato, Briley and Brennan Eddy who will miss her greatly. She was known for her activity as one of Jehovah's Witnesses in aiding individuals to come to an appreciation of the Bible and her God, Jehovah. was born in Lyndon on 9 March 1920, to Don E. and Ida (Sanderson) Easterbrooks. She died at the Pines on 3 May 2011. She was 91. She was predeceased by her husband, Clinton D. Newland, Sr.; two children, Nancy J. Camber and Milton P. Newland; brothers Lee, Guy, Dan, and Don Easterbrooks; sisters Ila Ruggles and Eva Smith; one infant grandchild and one infant great-grandchild. She leaves behind four sons and their wives, Clint Newland Jr. and Pam of Eliot ME, Winston Newland and Loraine of West Burke, Layton Newland and Wendy, Denton Newland and Debbie, all of East Burke, and her daughter Maelene Watson and husband Bryant of West Danville. She also leaves behind 21 grandchildren, their spouses and companions, 39 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, her sisters-in-law Colleen Easterbrooks and Charmain Newland, as well as many nieces and nephews. Ada was a long time resident of East Burke, and it was there that she raised her family. In addition to raising her family, Ada worked at Jo's Home Bakery, Oscar's Bakery, and Manchester Manufacturing. She prepared many delicious meals while working in the kitchen at the East Burke Graded School. She was also a Girl Scout Leader, volunteering her time for several years. She was an avid gardener, loved to sew and was a wonderful embroiderer. She was also a great cribbage and card player, and she loved to dance. She will be sadly missed and remembered always. There will be no calling hours. She will be laid to rest at a graveside service and committal on the 16th of July at 11 a.m. at the Woodmont Cemetery in East Burke. Friends and relatives can join together in a celebration of her life following the service at the Darling Park across from the cemetery. , a lifelong Lyndonville resident, passed away Saturday, October 8, 2011 at the Pines Health and Rehab Center. He was 80 years of age. Born in Lyndon on January 11, 1931, he is the son of Claude and Gladys (Gadapee) Rexford. Leslie attended Lyndon Institute and served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He married Betty Lou Miles in 1953. She predeceased him September 15, 2009. He worked for Northeast Tool retiring in 2001. Leslie enjoyed many things including hunting, fishing, motorcycle riding, snowmobiling and vacationing in Florida. You may remember him from the Caledonia County Fair; he parked cars there for over 39 years. Leslie is survived by his son, Wayne Rexford of Lyndonville; brother, Kenneth Rexford and wife Elaine of FL; a sister in law, Ella Rexford of St. Johnsbury; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Graveside services will be in the Hillside Cemetery Friday, Oct. 14, at 2:00 pm, with Pastor Matthew Bowles officiating. Immediately following the services all are invited for a gathering of friends at Leslie's home.

, 66, of Lyndonville, VT died on December 27, 2011 at his home. He was born in Springfield, VT the son of Joseph and Adele (Kennedy) Ryda. He was a Veteran of the United States Air Force. Joseph was a self employed Landscaper for many years. He also had worked at Joe's Garage in Ludlow, MA for a few years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, hiking and four wheeling. He is survived by his cousins, Thomas and Marlene Kennedy of Chicopee, MA., Brian and Deanna Kennedy of Jeffersonville, VT., and Kimberly and Craig Kitovich of Longmeadow, MA. , a Lyndonville resident passed away peacefully at her home Monday, August 29, 2011. She was 73. She was born in Morristown on April 28, 1938, the daughter of Elroy and Mary (Twombly) Bailey. She grew up in the area and attended Lyndon Institute. She married Glen Sahlin on January 1, 1971 in Lyndonville. He predeceased her in November 1987. After her marriage, Barbara lived in Maine and worked for a submarine manufacturing plant. In 1986 she returned to the Lyndonville area. She loved flower gardening, feeding and watching the birds. She enjoyed sports, especially watching LI softball games and the Red Sox. She is survived by four sisters, Charlotte Blodgett, Marilyn Clifford and husband Ronald, Brenda Simpson and husband Steve, Shawna Wilkerson; many nieces and nephews . She was predeceased by her brothers, Kenneth Bailey, Homer Bailey; a sister, Judy Gray. There will be no calling hours, and services will be at the convenience of the family.

, 84, of Westmore, VT passed away February 7, 2011, surrounded by his loving family after a very short illness. For the last ten years, Charles and his wife, Barbara, called Westmore their home community. Settling in Westmore in 2000 was the realization of a dream Dad and Mom had to build a home on land they had purchased in the early 1990's. Lake Willoughby was a favorite vacation spot for him and his family, and over the years he spent pleasurable hours of fishing while there. Prior to moving to Westmore, they treasured their home and family life in Underhill, Vermont. Wherever they lived, their home and community life involved participation within a Christian fellowship. While in Underhill, they worshipped and shared in the life of the United Church of Underhill. After moving to Westmore, Charles and his wife joined in the life and the lives of the people of the Westmore Community Church, the Brownington Community Church and the Lydonville United Methodist Church. Charles was born on February 2, 1927 in Painesville, Ohio, the first son and one of four children of Walter E. and Sadie Jeanette (Smith) Streator. He was predeceased by his brother, Paul Hanford Streator and his two sisters, Miriam Jeanette Thorward and Alta Rose Lau. In 1945, he enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps serving for a short time before college. He earned degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Civil Engineering, and worked for a time at the General Electric Company in Burlington, Vermont. In 1957, he met and married, Barbara Ann Morrison, his wife of 54 years. They were married on December 22, 1957 in Springfield, Vermont. His wife was one of five children born to Samuel William and Kathleen Damon (Gray) Morrison formerly of St. Johnsbury, Vermont. Truly desiring to teach, he returned to school at the University of Vermont to complete a master's degree in Education. Most of his years of employment were spent as a teacher of mathematics and mechanical drawing with high school age students; a profession which brought him great joy and accomplishment. His last full time teaching position was held at Holderness School in Holderness, NH. Charles, "Dad", exhibited many interests. One of his most gratifying past-times was crafting special gifts out of wood for his family, his friends, or someone he just wanted to bless. He loved to sing and shared his tenor voice on many occasion. Vegetable gardening was another activity that brought him great satisfaction. Charles E. Streator is survived by his wife, Barbara Ann Streator of Westmore. He leaves one son, Michael William Streator and his wife, Lori, of Underhill, Vermont, and three grandsons, Ryan James Streator and Nicholas and Nathan Dandrow. He leaves two daughters; Stacey Margaret Archer and her husband, Steven, of Ellettsville, Indiana and their four children, Ian Jeremiah, Emily Elizabeth, Lily Grace and Joel Zechariah, and a daughter, Rondi Elizabeth Whitney, and her husband, James Stuart, of Brandon, Vermont and his son, Nathanial James Whitney. A celebration of his well-lived life was held on February 11, 2011 at the Lyndonville United Methodist Church with Barbara Dwyer officiating. Charles was a kindhearted, thoughtful, and devoted man, and he will be deeply missed by his family and friends. , of West Burke, VT passed away peacefully on Monday, Oct. 31, 2011 at the age of 95. She was born on October 1, 1916 in Raleigh, North Carolina, daughter of the late Harry Frazier Albazett and Martha Annie (Hoyle)Albazett both originally from Yorkshire, England. From the age of 12, Hilda had a goal of working for the Federal Government. In 1933, she graduated from Nashville High School, in North Carolina. In 1935 she went on to graduate from Miss Hardbarger's School of Stenography and bookkeeping in Raleigh, NC. She worked her first job for the Dept. of Motor Vehicles in Raleigh from 1935-1939In 1939 she passed the civil service exam and was selected to go to Washington DC, where she worked for the American Red Cross. Hilda finally reached her goal, working for the Department of the Navy from 1940 to 1972 totaling 32 years. The last 15 years working for the Navy, she was a Financial Analyst in the Experimental Aircraft Division and accounted for millions of dollars that Congress had appropriated for that department - the highlight of her career was working on the F-14 Navy Fighter Jet and Phoenix project. She would proudly show her F-14 replica she received for her outstanding work performance during those projects. She received many accommodations and outstanding evaluations for her job performance. In 1939 Hilda married Stanley Strother and had two sons. Joseph B Strother , born in 1941 and Robert S Strother, born in 1946. She divorced Stanley in 1971. After Hilda retired, she spent the next 12 years helping her son Joe take care of her two grandchildren. Hilda - by this time known as Grandma to all- showered her grandchildren with love and taught them to be the best people they could be. Memories of her reading children's stories, baking pies, camping, and playing nurse through colds and tummy aches come to mind when remembering our gram. Hilda was a member of the Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church in Pleasant Valley, VA, the White Plains UMC in Cary, NC, and Registered Chapel UMC in Stafford, VA. The United Methodist Church was very special to her and she often reflected how the church got her through some sad and difficult times in her life. In 2002, Hilda moved to Vermont. She spent the last years of her life living with her granddaughter Shellie and husband Nelson Charron (whom she adored). Hilda was predeceased by her son Robert Stanley Strother who died in 1988 in England. She leaves behind her son Joseph B Strother and wife Gerda of Cape Coral, Florida, her granddaughter Shellie Charron and husband Nelson of West Burke VT; grandson, Joseph A Strother and wife Melissa of Fredericksburg, VA; two Great granddaughters -Heather Brooks of Tacoma, WA and Rhiannon Brooks of Lyndonville, VT. A great-grandson Austin Strother of Fredericksburg, Va; and great-great granddaughter, Ava Deth of Lyndonville, Vt. Grandma lived by the following motto "Do your job the best you can. Get along with your coworkers. Don't cause your boss any trouble. And keep your mouth shut." Hilda loved the springtime in North Carolina. She would often reminisce about the warmth of the spring season especially when it was below zero here in Vermont. Hilda will be buried in Nashville, North Carolina in the spring. On November 13th the family will hold a private celebration of life service for Hilda.

, age 56, a Newark resident, passed away Sunday, April 24, 2011 at his home following a lengthy illness. Son of the late Robert G. and Caroline (Davis) Taplin. He was born September 1, 1954 in St. Johnsbury. He enjoyed racing, raising rabbits, farming and building his and Anna's house together, cooking on the grill. Most of all he loved his grandkids, he loved that they called him "Papa". Guy is survived by a stepson, Shawn Morton and wife Nicole of VT; a brother Robert Taplin of FL, a sister, Caroline Taplin of MD; 3 grandchildren, Dylan, Trevor, and Mackenzi Morton. He was predeceased by his companion of 20 years, Anna Morton. A memorial service is scheduled at the Lyndonville First Congregational Church, Saturday, May 7, at 11:00 AM with the Rev. Judi Horgan officiating.

, of West Burke, passed away Thursday, October 27, 2011 at home. He was 91. Son of the late George E. and Marion Mooney Weed, he was born April 19, 1920 in West Burke. He graduated from Lyndon Institute class of 1938, and then from Vermont Technical College. He served in the US Army during WWII, with tours of duty in North Africa, Italy and England. Ervin married Kathryn Gray on August 21, 1947. Together they owned and operated the Ridgeland Farm on Sutton North Ridge. Ervin held positions as selectman and school director for the town of Sutton. His passion for the farm continued into "retirement" as he worked in the woods and monitored the wildlife and vitality of the ridge. Ervin is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Kathryn of West Burke; son, Ervin S. Weed, Jr. and wife Rhoda of Sutton; daughter Marcia L. Weed and husband Bob Litchfield of West Burke; many beautiful grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Kay Lucy Byrne of St. Johnsbury. He was predeceased by his daughter, Dianne K. Ladieu. Ervin's family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Caledonian Home Health Care for their kind and compassionate care given in their time of need. Graveside services will be in the Spring at Sutton North Ridge Cemetery. , age 60, of St. Johnsbury, Vt., died at home on June 15, 2011. Joann was born in Millinocket, Maine, on Dec. 12, 1950, to Leo and Rosalie Gagnon. She attended 12 years of school in Millinocket. On May 16, 1999 (after 20 years of being together) she married Urban Whitcomb Jr. of St. Johnsbury, Vt. Joann worked as a house cleaner and home care provider for the elderly for 30 years. She is survived by her loving husband, Urban Whitcomb Jr., her son Kenneth Rusler of North Attleboro, Mass., her daughter Andrea Castenada and family of Mansfield, Mass., and a son Boston and daughter Emma of Athens, Ohio. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, niece and many good friends. There will be no funeral services Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.

, age 81, a Lyndonville resident passed away Wednesday, August 3, 2011 at the Pines Health & Rehab Center following a lengthy illness. She was born January 22, 1930 in New Haven, CT, the daughter of Ralph and Lillian (Apuzzo) Greco. Anne worked as a secretary for Goodwill Industries for a time. She then turned to full time homemaking while raising her two sons. She enjoyed sewing, crossword puzzles and cooking. She is survived by her two sons and their wives, Kenneth and Cathy Wilkins, III of Lyndonville, Ralph and Lisa Wilkins of Island Pond; three grandchildren, Paul Wilkins of Lyndonville, Taylor Wilkins and Mikayla Wilkins both of Island Pond; a brother, Vinny Greco of Wallingford, CT; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Kenneth C. Wilkins, and a brother, Benjamin Greco. There will be no calling hours. Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. , of Randolph Center, VT, died June 14, 2011 in Randolph, VT at the age of 88. Daughter of Leon R Ward and Pauline (Austin) Kistler, she grew up in Springfield, MA where she graduated from Springfield High School in 1940. In 1941, she married Charles Henry Young of Wallingford, CT, in Willimantic, CT. They lived in Springfield during World War II and moved to Wallingford for several years following the war. They joined his brother to form Young Bros. Orchards until it dissolved and their three orchards were divided between them. Charles & Leta then owned and operated High Hill Orchards in Meriden/Wallingford, CT until their retirement to Randolph Center, VT, in 1980. Although retired, they returned seasonally to help out on the family farm, especially during harvest time. Just after their 62nd anniversary, Leta's husband passed away in 2003. She is survived by her three sons, Charles Jr. (Joyce) of Calhoun, GA, David (Darlene) of Randolph Center, VT and Wayne (Emily) of Meriden, CT; five grandchildren, Crystal, Caleb, Brian, Julie and Kevin; and sister Esther Strout. A Memorial Service/Celebration of Leta's life will be held at the family farm, High Hill Orchard, 86 Fleming Road, Meriden, CT 06450, at 2 p.m. on August 6, 2011. , age 69, passed away Monday, Jan. 31, 2011, at Maple Lane Nursing Home in Barton, Vt. She was born in Sheffield, Vt., Oct. 18, 1941. She is survived by her son, Armand J. Young Jr. and girlfriend Stacie L. Clark; long-time companion Armand J. Young Sr.; daughter-in-Law Katrina March; four grandchildren, Amanda, Rachel, Cameron and Patrick March; and three step-grandchildren, Trisha, Angelica and Morgan Clark. A small church service will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 5, 2011, at Lyndon Center Baptist Church 65 College Road, Lyndon Center, with Pastor Hershel Strickland, officiant.
