, of East Haven, died Sunday morning Feb. 22, 2009, at her home, with her family by her side, at the age of 77. She was born May 13, 1931, in Granby, Vt., the daughter of Edward and Gladys (Tyler) Lund. Minnie attended school in Victory and Granby. Prior to her marriage, she had worked at St. Johnsbury Glovers. On Aug. 23, 1958, she married Marvin C. Olson. They settled in East Haven following Marvin's retirement from the US Air Force in 1972. Minnie's favorite winter sport was snowmobiling. She was a member of the Caledonia County Snowmobile Trail Club for many years. She loved the out-of-doors and enjoyed the family camp in Granby as well as camping in Maine with family. Deer hunting, fishing, gardening, picking berries, maple sugaring, and mowing her whole lawn with a push mower brought her much pleasure. She also enjoyed working part time during the summers at Lyndon State College with her daughter. Spending time with her family and grandchildren was most important to her. Survivors include her best friend and husband, Marvin Olson of East Haven (P.O. Box 35, 05837); two daughters, Karen Fournier and husband Raymond of East Haven, and Lynda Franklin of East Haven and her friend Garth Ely of St. Johnsbury; four grandchildren, Robert Olson, Leeah Franklin, Zachary Fournier, and Shane Fournier; three brothers, George Lund and wife Hope of Lyndonville, Henry Lund of Lyndon, and her twin brother, Milton Lund and wife Eleanor of Waterford; a sister, Elsie Cady and husband Clark of Lyndonville; many nieces and nephews; and her close friend, Lois Wiggins of East Haven. She was predeceased by her parents, and two sisters and their husbands, Izola "Izy" Irwin and husband John, and Helen Farmer and husband Eugene. Friends may meet with the family Thursday evening from 6-8 at the Guibord Funeral Home. Memorial services will be held Friday, Feb. 27, at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Joel Battaglia officiating. Spring burial will be in Appleton Cemetery in Granby. passed away peacefully at her Kerrville, Texas, home on Sunday, Feb. 22, 2009, after losing her battle with lung cancer. She is survived by her husband, Daniel H. George of Kerrville; her two daughters Stacey Stilley of San Antonio and Stephanie Lopez of Houston; her brother Frederick Streicher of Glastonbury, Conn.; and her grandsons Christopher and Nicholas Stilley. She was preceeded in death by her parents Col. Frederick and Virginia Streicher of Proctor, Vt. Sue was born on Oct. 15, 1941, in Manhattan, Kan. She was the daughter of a career military father traveling wherever he was stationed around the world. A large part of Sue's adult life was spent in the beautiful country of the Republic of Panama, teaching for the Canal Zone government and DODDS. She retired to Kerrville in 1997, dividing her time between the Texas Hill Country and the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont. Sue loved spending time at her summer camp on Echo Lake in East Charleston, Vt., bird watching, reading, traveling and being with her adoptive cat, Fancy. A private memorial service will be held in Vermont this summer as were her wishes. The family requests in lieu of flowers, charitable donations be made to the Freeman-Fritts Animal Shelter in Kerrville, Texas, the American Cancer Society or Peterson Hospice in Kerrville, Texas.

, daughter of William and Evelyn (Burton) Shorter, was born in Cambridge, Md., on Nov. 26, 1929, and died on Feb. 23, 2009, in the Regional Medical Center, Leesburg, Fla. She passed away peacefully after giving her devoted husband, John, a little smile. Shirley had suffered bravely with cancer in seven organs for 20 years. Her physician, Dr. Susan Gresser, called her a "miracle girl." Shirley graduated from Cambridge High School and received her B.A. from Madison College and her M.A. from Virginia Tech. During her 30-year career in education, she taught in elementary school, in high school as a French and Spanish teacher, ending her career as a high school guidance counselor. Shirley and John moved to St. Johnsbury in 1986 and successfully operated the Heart and Hand Bed & Breakfast on Route 2B for many years. They wintered in Leesburg and moved there in 2007 to be near her oncology specialist at the Moffitt Cancer Center, Tampa, Fla. During this time, she had close ties with their many friends here. She is survived by her loving husband, John Cobis; her two sons and their families, Carl and Pam McSorley and their daughter, Kristin, of Glenville, Ga., William and Pam McSorley and their daughter, Megan, of Hot Springs, Ark., as well as Carl and Pam's other daughter, Tiffany, and husband, Mark Billings and daughter Banessa of Ocala, Fla.; her sister, Darlene Hill of Leesburg, and her brother and sister-in-law, William and Joan Shorter of Orlando, Fla.; and a favorite uncle, Alan Burton, of Cambridge; and her many friends. She was predeceased by her parents. Shirley was a gifted cook and baker and decorated their home tastefully with the Folk Art she collected. She could have been a Vermont tour guide and often traveled with friends all over the state. She was an avid reader and dedicated Red Sox fan. She was a member of the Danville Woman's Club and St. Johnsbury College Club and a volunteer at the Open Door in Danville. Above all, she was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, niece and friend. To know Shirley was to love Shirley. Shirley was a prayerful person and communicant of Queen of Peace Church, Danville, and St. John the Evangelist, St. Johnsbury. Her Funeral Mass at St. John's and Commital Service will be held at a later date to be announced. , 61, of Lyndon, and formerly of East Corinth, died suddenly early Tuesday morning Feb. 24, 2009 at his home. He was born June 27, 1947, in Worcester, Mass., the son of Thomas J. and Florence C. (Leduc) Shea. He was a graduate of Carson High School in Carson, Calif. Following his schooling he entered the US Army where he served in Vietnam. He was honored with many medals for his distinguished service above and beyond the call of duty, including the Distinguished Service Cross, the Vietnamese Medal of Honor, and the Purple Heart. When he returned to the States he became a Drill Sergeant. Later Tom was a strong advocate for his fellow veterans. He was a lifetime member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, Legion of Valor U.S.A., VFW in Derby, the American Legion, and was a friend of Bill W. Tom moved to Lyndon in 2003 and did part time painting. He enjoyed talking with and helping people. He loved life, people, motorcycling, fishing, camping at Center Pond in Newark and Ricker Pond in Groton with his family and friends, and was considered a movie buff. He was a great father to his two daughters, an awesome grandfather, and uncle T. Survivors include his companion, Deborah Reynolds of Lyndon; two daughters, Shannon "Dewey" Shea of East Corinth, and Cassie "Chub" Shea of Sutton; three grandchildren, Thomas James, Paul Henry, and Anika Marie; four brothers, Daniel, Michael, Frank and Joseph Shea all of California; three sisters, also of California, Cathy West, Mary Haub, and Patty Gibbons; the mother of his children, Paula Shea of East Corinth; Deborah's daughter, Jessica Jackson of New Jersey, her parents, Howard and Becky Reynolds of Lyndon, her brother, Stephen Reynolds and wife Susan of New Hampshire, and her sister, Patricia Ste. Marie and husband Barry of Lyndon; many nieces and nephews; Tom's canine companions, Fergunson and Riley; as well as his fellow veterans. He was predeceased by his parents, and his father in-law who was like a father to him, Paul Lavallee. Friends may call on the family this Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Guibord Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Sunday, March 1, at 2 p.m., at the Lyndonville First Congregational Church with the Rev. Judi Horgan officiating. , 84, of Powder Spring Road, Groton, died Feb. 24, 2009, at The Pines in Lyndonville. Evelyn was born in Cambridge, Mass., on May 30, 1924, to Arnold and Mary (Martin) Pynn. She completed her three year nurse's training at Widden Memorial Hospital in Everett, Mass., and became a Registered Nurse on Sept. 25, 1945. During World War II, she was a member of The Cadet Nurses Corps. On Aug. 30, 1946, she married M. Ross McLeod. They moved to Groton in 1966. Evelyn was a member of the Groton United Methodist Church, was active in the United Methodist Women, serving as treasurer for many years, sang in the choir, and was leader of the sewing and handicraft group which made items to be sold at church fairs and suppers. A natural caregiver, Evelyn compassionately cared for her daughter, Joyce, as-well-as her mother, Mary, and mother-in-law, Ethel McLeod, for many years. She was predeceased by her parents Arnold and Mary Pynn; two sisters, Annie Grace Pynn and Irene Powers; and a brother Chester Pynn. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, M. Ross McLeod; their daughter, Joyce McLeod of Lyndonville; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins in the United States and Canada. There will be no calling hours. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 28, 2009, at 11 a.m., at the Groton United Methodist Church with Pastor Candace Ricker, officiating. , age 85, a West Burke native and most recently of 122 Main St., Lyndonville, passed away Monday, Feb. 23, 2009, following a brief stay at The Pines. Born in West Burke on May 31, 1923, she was one of five children to George and Emily (Grant) Lowell. She graduated from the Fletcher School in 1937, Lyndon Institute in 1941, and the Lyndon Teachers College in 1961. She taught the 3rd and 4th grades at Sutton School for 24 years. She married Merton Leonard in August 1940. He predeceased her in July 1988. Edna and Merton raised two sons in Lyndonville, Merton, Jr. and Brian. Merton Jr. and his wife, Nancy, live in West Burke and have three sons, Gerald, Jonathan, and Javin, who have five children. Brain and his wife, Linda, reside in Rancho Cordova, Calif., and have two daughters, Desiree and Lenea, one son, Matthew; they have eight children. Edna is also survived by a brother, James Lowell and his wife, Althea, of Balston Spar, N.Y., and their children; sister-in-law, Alberta Davis and her children; three brothers-in-law, Reginald Leonard, Norman Leonard, Cecil Leonard and their children; and numerous nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be scheduled for later this spring at the Hillside Cemetery in West Burke.

, 72, of Littleton, N.H., passed away Feb. 22, 2009, at Weeks Medical Center in Lancaster, N.H. He was born Dec. 13, 1936, in Littleton, N.H., the son of Leroy and Lena Sinclair Macey. Ray attended school in Lisbon, N.H., before serving his country in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1958. He was a brick layer by trade and later, with a partner, owned a concrete foundation business. He was also a cook at Paquette's Motel in Twin Mtn. and Perkins Motel in Littleton. After this, he went to work for Clough Construction as a truck driver. Eventually Raymond owned his own dump truck. Ray was predeceased by two sisters and one brother. Surviving relatives are his wife of 50 years, Sonya Brown Macey, a very dear niece, Vivian Walker of Delhi, N.Y., her two daughters, Tia and Annya Walker, and several nieces and nephews. Services will be restricted to a graveside service in the spring. Cremation services were done by the Cremation Society of Manchester, N.H. Any memorial contributions may be made to a Humane Society of one's choice.

passed away on Feb. 22, 2009, at his home in Marshfield after a year-long battle with brain cancer. Judy, his wife of 31 years, was at his side. Michael was born on April 8, 1958, in Bristol, Conn., to Lucien Phoenix of Newport and Simone (Ayotte) Phoneix of Camden, Maine. Mike was the owner of Phoenix and Son Construction, which will continue under the management of his son Daniel. Mike was a generous and loving man, a godly and devout Christian who touched many lives and will be greatly missed. He is survived by his wife, Judy; their son, Daniel and his wife Julie and their two children Amanda and her husband, David, and their eight children, and Laura and her husband David and their three children. He is also survived by four god-children; one brother; five sisters; his father and mother; one brother-in-law; three sisters-in-law; mother-in-law; father-in-law; and many nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. , 91, of Fish Pond Road, died on Thursday, Feb. 26, 2009, at the Cottage Hospital in Woodsville, N.H. He was born in Newton, Mass., May 18, 1917, the son of Louis and Lena (Antenen) Remond. Paul was married to Ebon Gloria Swenson on June 3, 1945. He was an electrical engineer draftsman for many years with the Raytheon Corporation in Massachusetts, retiring in 1982. He was on a development team during World War II for the early development of the radar system and for microwave ovens. Following retirement they moved from Harvard, Mass., to Newbury. He was a member of the Woodsville Senior Bowling League. He has also enjoyed senior meals and activities at the Horse Meadow Senior Center in North Haverhill, N.H. Paul has enjoyed reading, stamp collecting, and H.O. model trains. With his wife Ebon, he spent countless hours driving the back roads of Vermont, enjoying the picturesque scenery, farms, and mountains. He was predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Ebon G. Remond on May 16, 2004. Survivors include his son, Geoffrey P. Remond of Newbury; his daughter, Ebon L. McCullough of New Ipswich, N.H.; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. , 91, of Pavilion Lane, Barnet, died Feb. 26, 2009, at The Pines in Lyndonville. She was born on Oct. 14, 1917, in Detroit, Mich., to Frank and Ruth (Raymond) Parker. She was married to Frank Granger on June 29, 1943, in Montreal. Together they owned Granger's Pavilion, a dance pavilion on Harvey's Lake in West Barnet. Kay served as a 50 year member of the Diamond Chapter No. 14 Order of the Eastern Star of Danville and was a member of the Rebekah's. She volunteered with the Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital Auxiliary in St. Johnsbury and with the West Barnet Women's Fellowship. Kay was predeceased by her husband Frank Granger on April 1, 2000; by one sister, Betty (Parker) Chinberg; and two brothers Frank and Donald Parker. She is survived by her daughter Kathy Highland of Uxbridge, Mass.; her son John Granger and wife Donna of Wetumpka, Ala.; grandchildren Debbie Johnson and husband Kevin of Wetumpka, Garrett Highland of Uxbridge, and Gregge Highland of South Boston, Mass.; great-grandchildren Taylor, Hunter, and William Johnson of Wetumpka; brother-in-law Charles Chinberg of Napa, Calif.; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.
