She was a craftsperson who specialized in hand-cut paper and silhouette art. She was also a fine dining waitress and worked at the Willoughvale Inn for years. She enjoyed reading and making crafts, and she was working on publishing a cookbook. She was employed for a time at the former Newport Plastics. She was a past member of the Ladies Society of the Orleans Federated Church. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, and embroidering gifts for her family and friends. She also enjoyed gardening. She was loved by family and friends and was always willing to lend them a hand when she could. In her younger days she worked at a couple of area insurance agencies and at a local bank. She helped her husband at the garage in Newport. She is survived by her children: Dennis Sargent and his wife, Patricia, of Florida, Susan Bourque and her husband, Phillip, of Connecticut, and Jeff Sargent and his wife, Cathleen, of Barton; by her grandchildren: Laura Hurler and her husband, Russell, of Massachusetts, Carol Scott and her husband, Jeremy, of Massachusetts, Tammy White and her fiancé, Bret Barker, of Massachusetts, James White and his wife, Erica, of Massachusetts, and Thomas and Lily Sargent of Barton; and by great-grandchildren: Adian, Owen, and Hanna Hurler, Heather Holmes, and Tabytha, Zachrey, and Emma Scott, all of Massachusetts. , 87, of Westmore died peacefully after a long illness on Sunday, January 20, 2008, with her husband of 65 years, Bill Page, at her side. Along with her sister Lois, Mrs. Page spent youthful summers at Lake Willoughby in Westmore, where her grandmother and later her parents, Ted and Harriet Fish, rented summer cottages. When she lined up by height at her Belmont, Massachusetts, high school graduation, she was paired with a tall handsome young man named Bill Page. They dated in their college years, marrying in 1942. They raised five boys in Lexington, Massachusetts, where they were active at the First Parish Church. In 1983, they retired to Westmore, enjoying travels to China, Egypt, India, Europe, and Mexico. She approached life with great gusto, enjoying many creative endeavors that gave her much joy. She was a craftsman and an artist, making many quilts, articles of jewelry, and watercolor paintings. She was a brilliant accordion player and also played guitar and recorder. Her cooking, according to her five gigantic sons, was pure "ambrosia" with her baked beans rivaled only by those of her sister. She loved tending her vegetable garden and sharing its bounty as the summers progressed into fall. She adored her grandchildren and took great pleasure in watching them reach their own milestones in life. Around Janet, everything grew. She was a seamstress for Dominion Glover in Beebe, Quebec, for many years. Her hobbies included sewing, reading, going for five-mile walks, and watching news and current events on television. Mrs. Ledoux was born in Northfield, New Hampshire, to Bernard D. Chapman and Lucy K. Chapman on December 19, 1923, and grew up in Tilton, New Hampshire. She married her devoted husband, Joseph L. Ledoux, on July 16, 1945, in Portland, Maine, and spent the first few years of her married life in Tilton. In 1959, she moved with her husband and children to Newport Center. In October 2003, after 44 and a half years in Vermont, she and her husband sold their home and moved to Powder Springs, Georgia. She was a registered nurse from 1945 to 1975, and was one of the first cardiac nurses in Newport. After an early retirement due to back problems, she did volunteer work at a local nursing home. She was an active member of the Young Married Farmers, the Modern 29ers Homemakers, 4-H, Orleans County Extension Service, and the Vermont State Auxiliary of Rural Letter Carriers Association. She learned to square dance in the 1970s and was a member of the North Country Swingers for several years. She is survived by her husband, Joseph; by her sons David Ledoux and his wife, Helen, and Thomas Ledoux and his wife, Lily; by her daughter Linda Benjamin; by eight grandchildren: Kristie, Tricia, Monique, Lance, Joseph, Tracy, Andrew, andMaryBeth; and by three great-granddaughters: Chelsea, Mariah, and Andréia. A memorial service was held at St. Theresa's Catholic Church in Douglasville, Georgia, on December 21. Interment will be held at a later date in New Hampshire.

Her hobbies were playing cards with family and friends, collecting teddy bears and cows, and sharing stories of the "good old days." She is survived by her devoted husband of over 61 years, Vernal H. , 56, of Everett, Pennsylvania, died unexpectedly on Friday, January 18, 2008, at her home. Mrs. Imler was born July 25, 1951, in Newport, a daughter of the late Graydon and Harriette (Burbank) Gile. She grew up in Plainfield, New Hampshire, and graduated from Lebanon High School in Lebanon, New Hampshire, in 1970. She earned a licensed practical nursing degree from Claremont Vocational Technical School in Claremont, New Hampshire. She was employed at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center when it was located in Hanover, New Hampshire, and then at Manatee Hospital in Bradenton, Florida, as a pediatric nurse for many years. On July 4, 1987, she married David Imler at the Gamble Mansion in Ellenton, Florida. They had made their home in Everett for nearly the past ten years. She loved to be with her family, enjoyed yard sales immensely, loved taking pictures of anything and everything, and loved going to the family camp on Shadow Lake in Glover every summer in recent years. Linda leaves her husband, David, of Everett; sister Donna Costey and her husband, Fred, of Ellenton; brother Graydon Gile and his wife, Donna, of Danville; nieces Jessica Robb and Shelby Wallace; nephew Shane Gile; and several cousins and their families. (Woods) Swanson. She graduated from Orleans High School and Burdett College in Boston, Massachusetts. She was employed by Safeway Stores for 25 years as a cashier-bookkeeper and retired and moved to Citrus Hills in 2001. She was a member of the Citrus Hill Woman's Club, Citrus Hills Golf and Country Club, and the Nature Coast Maryland Club, and she worked as a volunteer at the Resource Center in Hernando, Florida. She enjoyed knitting, doing needlepoint and cross-stitch, and playing Bunco. She enjoyed helping others and loved her many friends. Her annual homemade soup party was always a hit and will be missed but not forgotten. She was a member of the Congregational Church. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Russell P. "Russ" Dewing, of Citrus Hills; by daughter Julie A. Duran and her husband, Nelson, of Snellville, Georgia; by son Craig E. She married Donald Joseph Walsh on December 9, 1944. After more than 50 years of marriage, he predeceased her on June 3, 1995. After her marriage, she raised her family in Fairfield, Connecticut, until they moved to Barton in 1986. For the last 22 years she had spent the summer in Vermont and the winter in Florida. A quietly spiritual person, she lived a happy and joyful life. She always had a good word for all and made friends wherever she went. She believed in keeping her troubles to herself. Her life was full with close friends, a family she loved and who loved her, a work life as a bookkeeper, and many volunteer activities over the years. She is survived by her daughters: Donna Walsh and her husband, John, of Delray Beach, Judith Carpenter of Barton, and Catherine Walsh of Reading, Pennsylvania; by her grandsons: Robert Walsh and his wife, Jennifer, Jason Walsh and his wife, Alexandra, and Errol Walsh and his wife, Jennifer; by six great-grandchildren: Victoria, Gabriella, Meara, Elizabeth, Abigail, and Bridget; and a host of friends and relatives. After graduation from Barton Academy in 1932, she married Lawrence A. Sicard Sr. on September 15, 1932. He predeceased her on September 16, 1968. To this union 11 children were born. She is survived by nine of them: Lawrence Sicard Jr. and his wife, Shirley, of Barton, Barbara Perkins and Carroll Larocque of Orleans and Summerfield, Florida, David Sicard and his wife, Penny, of Bridport and Palmetto, Florida, Michael Sicard and his wife, Carol, of Bradenton, Elizabeth "Betsy" Diette and her husband, Armand, of Sutton and Summerfield, Florida, Susan Sicard of Lyndonville, Judith Fitzpatrick and her husband, Peter, of Mooresville, North Carolina, Terry Sicard and his wife, Christine, of Westmore, and Patrice Royer and her husband, Gary, of Lyndonville. She is also survived by 44 grandchildren; by 75 great-grandchildren; by 12 great-great-grandchildren; by daughter-in-law Priscilla Sicard of Bradenton; by sister-in-law Mary Sicard of Barton; by brother-in-law Bill Malshuk of Irasburg; and by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. During her last few years of living independently in Florida, her niece Dottie Rossier and her husband, Sam, visited her daily. She was predeceased by her daughter Mary Elizabeth in infancy; by her son James Sicard of Bradenton; by two brothers, Carl and Merton Labor; by three sisters: Beatrice Larocque, Marion Simons, and Genevieve Malshuk; by son-in-law Raymond Perkins; by twin grandson and granddaughter Fitzpatrick; and by great-grandchildren Roger Simino and Leah Wells. She and her husband operated a dairy farm for many years in Westmore, where she also prepared hot lunches for students at Lakeview Elementary School, cooking them on a wood stove. While on the farm, she and her husband were members of the Farm Bureau Association and Grange, and she was a member of the Kris Kringle Club. Although she had many children of her own to raise, her door was always open to anyone who needed a place to stay, whether it was for a night, a week, or years. She cared for her sick mother before her death. There was always enough food on the table and a place to sleep. As her children grew, married, and started families of their own, the "farm" was a popular place to go on Sunday afternoons. She cooked big Sunday dinners for all who wanted to attend. Many of the grandchildren have fond memories of playing outside while the adults were inside visiting or playing penny poker. She loved to play cards, especially poker, which was her favorite. She thoroughly enjoyed playing bingo and Yahtzee any time she could. Many of her family and friends were welcome into both of her homes when they needed a place to live. She loved having them at her house, and she was a positive influence in the direction of their lives. She was an excellent cook and really enjoyed feeding the flock of people who called her house home. Laughter, light bantering, and fun could be expected when people gathered. Raised doughnuts with her homemade frosting or syrup were her specialty, and although she would try to teach her children, grandchildren, and even her great-grandchildren the art, they never were quite the same because her special touch and love were just not there. For many years she made her winter home in Bradenton and her summer home in Westmore, caring for herself until last year when she could no longer live independently. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, January 30, at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Barton with the Reverend Daniel Rupp celebrating a Mass of Christian Burial. , 90, of Derby, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and member of the Greatest Generation, died January 18, 2008, in Newport. Mr. Scott was born in West Derby on March 20, 1917, the middle child of Newton Thomas and Eva Lockhart Scott. He was predeceased by two brothers, Robert and Richard; and his wife, Phyllis Coburn Scott. He attended Eastside Grade School in Newport and graduated from Newport High School in 1935. He was in the school band, and he played football. Following graduation, he worked on the Bluffside family farm before joining the National Guard in 1940. During World War II he served in Europe as an Army intelligence officer with the 3rd Battalion 415th Regiment and fought in the famous Battle of the Bulge with the 104th Timberwolf Infantry Combat Fighting Division, whose battle slogan was "Nothing in hell stops the Timberwolves." He was awarded the Bronze Star for heroism during combat operations in Holland and the Combat Infantry Badge. His unit was a recipient of a Presidential Citation. He was released from active duty as a captain in 1945 and stayed in the reserves until 1951. He married Phyllis Coburn in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, on March 18, 1942, and they were together for 65 years. They built their first home in Newport Center where they owned and operated the Newport Center Bowling Alley and managed the Newport Country Club during the summers. They later moved to Derby, where they owned and operated the former Derby Garage for more than 20 years. Following retirement, they enjoyed spending winters in Florida and traveling around the country. He was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Lions Club, and the Elks Club. He loved to fish and hunt. In recent years, he assisted with the senior dinners at the United Church of Derby. He found a great deal of enjoyment reading, playing cribbage, gardening, and spending time at his lakeside camp on Scott's Cove on the Bluffside farm. He will be remembered for his strong work ethic, incredible resourcefulness and ingenuity, and inquisitive mind. He was a quiet man by nature whose emotions were not displayed openly, yet his subtle sense of humor was sharp and dry, often surprising those who knew him. He had a mischievous side and a wonderful wit. He entertained his children and grandchildren with jokes and stories of long ago. He will be deeply missed by them and his many friends. His family feels blessed to have spent so many wonderful years with him. His life was long and well lived. He is survived by his three children: Stephen Scott and his wife, Kathleen, of Montgomery Center, Sally Brown and her husband, Alan, of Santa Barbara, California, and Susan Figley and her husband, Jeff, of Grantham, New Hampshire; by his five grandchildren: United States Marine Corps Captain Daniel Brown of Camp Pendleton, California, Lauren Brown of Burlington, Jessica Figley of Charlotte, North Carolina, Morgan Figley of Blacksburg, Virginia, and Tessa Figley of Grantham; by sisters-in-law Velma Scott of Swanton and Jane Scott of Newport; and by nieces and nephews. At his request, there will be no services. A private gathering will be held at the convenience of the family to honor his life. , 95, of Newport died peacefully January 27, 2008, in Newport. Mrs. Mooney was born October 12, 1912, in Newport, a daughter of James and Carlista (Sprague) Gardner. On June 18, 1943, she married Arthur A. Mooney, who predeceased her. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star of Newport and the Newport Women's Club and an active member of the Main Street Baptist Church. She was president of the social union, the Sunday school teacher, and choir director member. She was a member of the North Country Hospital Auxiliary and the Orleans Country Club. She worked as a desk clerk at her father's music store and as a hot lunch cook at the Eastside School. She is survived by her son Stephen Mooney and his wife, Shirley, of Barton; by stepson Richard Mooney and his wife, Evelyn, of Virginia; by her cherished grandchildren: Christopher, Scott, Amanda, and David Mooney and Nancy Boucher and their families; and by numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by siblings: Lawrence, Richard, and Rudolph Gardner and Katherine Kendall; and by stepson Winston Mooney. , 83, died January 24, 2008, at Union House in Glover. Mrs. Miner was the beloved wife of David Miner of Westmore. They would have celebrated their sixtieth wedding anniversary on June 21. She had a lifelong love of learning. She graduated from Salem High School in 1942 as valedictorian of her class. She earned her bachelor's degree in three years at Jackson College at Tufts University, graduating with honors. She went on to receive her master's degree from Syracuse University where she met her husband. Together they spent their careers working in a variety of educational settings. For 22 summers they ran Wildwood Nature Camp in Barre, Massachusetts. During this time she was an associate professor of humanities at Mount Wachusette Community College where she taught children's literature, world literature, and other English classes. At the end of her career she took great pleasure in teaching English at the local prison. In her spare time she was never idle. She loved doing projects for her family, including knitting, sewing, gardening, canning, baking, and needlework. Upon her retirement, she and her husband traveled widely through England, Europe, Greece, the Holy Land, the Caribbean, and Alaska. In addition to her husband and an older sister, Geraldine Cullen of Chebanse, Illinois, she is survived by her four children: Bradford L. Miner and his wife, Ginger, of Warren, Massachusetts, Brian Miner and his friend, Suzie Phoenix, of Petersham, Massachusetts, Cheryl Williams of Craftsbury, and Alison Valley and her husband, Terry, of Westmore; by eight grandchildren: Anne Jarek of Boston, Massachusetts, Sarah Quina and her husband, Marco, of Watertown, Massachusetts, Katherine Williams, who is serving in the Peace Corps in Vanuatu, Christopher Williams of Craftsbury, Megan Valley of Glover, and Tyler, Morgan, and Jeremy Valley of Westmore; and by two other women who held a special role in her life, Holly Jarek of Brighton, Massachusetts, and Priscilla Welin of Saugus, Massachusetts. She was predeceased by her parents, Harry and Lizzie Tyler of Salem; by her sister Madeline Petty of Phoenix, Arizona; and by her son-in-law K. Stephen Williams of Craftsbury. A memorial service is planned for the spring in Winchendon, Massachusetts. There will be a private burial for family members. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Mrs. Miner's memory be made to the children's collection of a favorite library.

of Glover died peacefully at her home in West Glover, surrounded by her loved ones, after a courageous battle with leukemia. Ms. Delnicki was born in Manchester, Connecticut, a daughter of Charles and Evangeline (Karvelis) Delnicki. She was an avid gardener of flowers and vegetables. She loved her family and enjoyed doing things with them. She loved her dogs, horses, and other pets. She enjoyed fishing and arts and crafts and generated many gifts for her family, which were created out of love. She is survived by her husband, Christopher Rodgers, of West Glover; by her stepmother, Beverly Delnicki, of Wheelock; by her brother Ron Delnicki of Maine; by her four children: Nathan Diebolt and his companion, Arianne Norris, of Sutton, Melissa Amadon and her husband, Matt, of Sutton, Amy Prucha of Lyndonville, and LorenPrucha of Sutton; and two grandchildren, Brooke Diebolt and Emma Amadon. She will be deeply missed by her extended family: James and Nancy Rodgers of West Glover, Marsha and Michael Bishop and their children of Swanton, and Craig and Sarah Rodgers of Arlington, Massachusetts; and by her dear friend Sylvia Petrie of Burke. She was predeceased by her parents, Charles and Evangeline Delnicki; and by her sister Beverly Delnicki. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 2, at the Glover United Church with the Reverend Evelyn Coupe officiating. Spring interment will be held at the Andersonville Cemetery in West Glover. , 76, of Coventry died peacefully in her home, surrounded by her family, on Friday, January 25, 2008. Mrs. Carter was born on March 17, 1931, in Richford, a daughter of Gordon and Alida (Demar)Gilbar. She married Francis D. Carter on November 25, 1950. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. More than anything she enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by her devoted husband of over 57 years, Francis D.
