A young man
named Howard about
14 years of age, died at Salisbury, Vt., in consequence of a blow which he
received from a school master in town. He went to school to protect his
younger brother in acts of disobedience and insulting conduct toward the
master and a scuffle ensued in which the master seized a crutch belonging to
one of the scholars, struck him and fractured his skull. He went home after
receiving the blow & died same night. The master named Blake gave himself up for
trial and was admitted to bail. |

the other was drowned in Connecticut River while attempting to save a friend. |
