Her grandchildren have wonderful memories of Vermont Christmases at Grammys with intricately decorated and yummy Christmas cookies and leisurely summer dinners with fresh shucked corn and strawberry shortcake at the big camp table at Harvey’s Lake. There was always a special sign or banner of welcome greeting each summer arrival at camp. She had a curious mind and enjoyed a lively conversation. She was always ready to offer a common sense opinion on almost any topic and loved visiting with family and friends. David I. “Dave” Kanell
....show , on Wednesday April 3, 2019, at the age of 67, peacefully, in the company of his wife Beth. Dave was born in New Haven, Conn., on Jan. 1, 1952, to Martha Myers Kanell and Jacob “Jack” Kanell. He delighted in his family: his younger sister Robin Kanell, the sisterly presence and humor of his close-in-age aunt Diane Myers, his grandparents and many relatives. A committed Jew, he carried a strong sense of tradition always. Dave attended the University of Hartford, the University of New Hampshire, and Lyndon State College, and developed a passion for Jewish history, literature, and art, which resulted in his massive collection of Jewish books and related items. In his career as Residential Life administrator at Lyndon State College, he enjoyed 24/7 responsibilities for the lives and growth of many young people, and throughout his life maintained those connections, as well as with fellow staff members. He gave leadership to the Jewish community for more than 40 years through Congregation Beth El, where he recruited and formed a lifelong friendship with Prof. Julius Lester.
At age 50, Dave and Beth (Elizabeth) met in a used bookstore, founded a mystery and poetry specialty book business of their own (Kingdom Books), and understood they were meant for each other (in Hebrew, b’shert). They married on June 20, 2003, and soon bought their home in Waterford. It had to have room for all the books, upstairs and down. In retirement, Dave’s interest in Northeast Kingdom history, especially of Lyndonville, Lyndon State College, and Theodore N. Vail, grew steadily. His Facebook presence shared images and history of the region with many. He also became the loving stepfather to Beth’s sons Alexis and Kiril Savino, and happy friend to Kiril’s sons Ian and Jay.
In addition to his family, Dave leaves many friends to whom he was deeply devoted, especially Brad and Julie Bailey, Chick (Charles) and Marsha Schwartz, Harvey and Patty Caplan, and Paul and Amanda Lane. His final illness was eased by the caring and capable Hospice team of Caledonia Home Health. To honor Dave, a contribution to Caledonia Home Health, 161 Sherman Drive, St. Johnsbury, VT 05819, would be appreciated. Most importantly, purchase another good book and read it with thoughts of Dave. There are many more stories he would have liked to read.

He would often tell stories of his idyllic childhood, in a St. Johnsbury of “yesteryear,” where he moved with his family as a young child. He raised chickens and tended his very own garden in this rural St. Johnsbury. Delmer was known for his years of dedicated work as a serviceman for Sears & Roebuck, from which he retired in 1988. Side by side in all they did, they were recognized everywhere for their sweet love and undying devotion. Long-standing members of the local Union Baptist Church, they lived their lives as faithful and generous believers, seeing the good in everyone and going out of their way to help those in need. Grace and Delmer went to White’s Market daily, a tradition Delmer held on to after Grace was gone. He loved his coffee and newspaper, and the friendly staff at Whites who treated him like family. Carol "Nutty" (Nutting) Robinson
....show has gone home to Glory! June 24, 1924 — May 17, 2019
Born June 24, 1924 in Lyndonville, Vt. to the late Chester R. and Dora (Jackman) Nutting. Carol was a proud member of the St. Johnsbury Academy Class of' 42, though she always thought of Barton as her hometown, having spent the most graded school years there. Carol was one of 14 out of 187 applicants chosen to attend Mary Fletcher School of Nursing. Toward the end-of her training she joined the Cadet Corps and did her military training at Camp Edwards on Cape Cod. When the war ended she was dismissed since the military no longer needed more nurses.
During her Cadet Training she would travel in uniform for the discount. One Saturday night Clayt saw that beautiful gal in that uniform with her sister at the Sunset Ballroom and was smitten. They were married on April 10th …one year later. They took a six week honeymoon and drove to California, camping along the way. Dad was looking for flat land to farm but by the time they reached California the rolling hills of VT were starting to look pretty good to him! They returned and bought the Harvey Farm in Passumpsic, in 1946 where they each lived until their death.
They raised their 14 children on that farm with Clayt having many entrepreneurial ideas like the dance halls, the saw mill, a food booth at the fair, sugaring in the Spring, all of this as well as dairy farming! In later years he went to logging and she to driving truck to deliver the logs. They also started a pallet business. As her 80th birthday approached, she determined it was time to retire rather than buy a new truck. They both were hard working people and instilled those values in their children.
Mother loved the Lord and went to church whenever she could, attending her Bible Study group until just a couple months ago.
Carol is survived by 11 of her children: Gloria (David) Bullock of NC, Clayton (Theresa) of NC, Brenda (Richard) Ball of Passumpsic, Marcia (Roger) Martel of Waterford, Thomas of VA, Earl (Mary) of VA, Cynthia (Robert) Gordon of Lyndonville, Dot of Passumpsic, Stanley (Kathy) of Passumpsic, Russell (Lisa) of Passumpsic, Carol of Passumpsic, and close family friend Sandy Turman of Passumpsic. In 1980 she launched an ambitious project to relocate, build and restore a historic house on a plot of land in Lyndonville she acquired in an antique trade. The plot was a woodlot with a view overlooking Willoughby Gap; the house was located in southern New Hampshire. After her husband’s death in 1994, Suzanne moved to the Lyndonville house and transformed her antiques business from retail to wholesale. The restoration project became a labor of love and creativity, transforming the home into a beautiful estate with a fine example of a period post and beam home, stunning grounds, and a view that frames Willoughby Gap over a serene duck pond.
Very artistic and creative, Suzanne painted in oil, watercolor, and pastels. She crafted original hooked rugs with designs that reflected her home, Vermont, her children and her grandchildren.
She is survived by her companion, Joe Martin, of Lyndonville, 2 sons: Jeffrey Bruckner (Willa) of Maplewood, NJ, John T. Bruckner (Carolyn) of Barnet, VT, 2 daughters: Nancy J. Bruckner of Safety Harbor, FL, Lisa Anne Bruckner of Lighthouse House Point, FL, daughter-in-law: Eileen Bruckner of Reading, MA, brother: John Berry (Doris) of New Town Square, PA, 10 grandchildren: Joshua Bruckner, Zachary Bruckner, Matthew Bruckner (Heather), Emily Bruckner, Allyson Moore (Larry), Alexander Bruckner, Andrew Bruckner, Julia Bruckner, Jarvis Idowu, Kayle Anderson, and many nieces and nephews.
