Nicknamed “Tink” he graduated from Barton Academy in 1949, and Massachusetts College of Pharmacy on June 4, 1958. He married Donnie Marie Matthews on June 1, 1957, who survives him. He was being cared for by his family when he passed on to meet His Lord and Savior, Jesus.
Clarence was known by many in the community for being the owner of The East Side Pharmacy on East Main Street in Newport. He purchased the drug store in the early 60s and moved the business to North Country Hospital Medical Arts Building in 1983. In September of 1976, he received the Bowl of Hygieia award for “outstanding community service and pharmacy” from A.H. Robbins. He attempted to retire in 1993 when he sold the pharmacy, but had such a passion for his life’s work as a pharmacist that he accepted a part-time position at Brown’s Drug Store in Derby Line, VT. He continued his love for helping to heal others with his vast knowledge of medicine until he finally chose to retire at the age of 79, to spend more time with the love of his life, Donnie Marie.
Clarence served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War, and earned the National Defense Service Medal while serving in Panama, guarding the canal. He was honorably discharged on December 18, 1953.
After moving to Newport in 1959, he served the community in various ways as a member of Kiwanis, a Cub and Boy Scout Leader, and a faithful church attender at the United Church of Newport. In 1994 he became a member at the Grace Brethren Church of Irasburg where he served as a Deacon. Clarence loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, whenever possible. He had a passion for flying (he was part owner of the “Gray Ghost” airplane), playing tennis, hiking, snowshoeing, alpine and cross-country skiing, and especially loved swimming in the ocean, at Crystal Lake, and in his own backyard. He will be remembered most as a servant who loved to help others. He enjoyed the snow, and will be fondly remembered for snow-blowing neighborhood driveways - a gift he was still giving this past January.
The family wished to express their thanks and appreciation for all those who participated in keeping Clarence and Donnie living independently in their own home for as long as possible, and to all those who helped with his care over the past several months. We are indebted to Dr. Niemera for her expert care, to the compassionate VNA and Hospice nurses and aids, and to family, neighbors, friends, and church family who assisted in so many ways. We give a heartfelt thanks to the Cartee family, Rhonda Bullis, and Joan Swenson, for their compassion and amazing support.

Aurore Marie Jean Morin
....show
, 96, of Troy, Vermont, died peacefully surrounded by her family on February 13, 2018 at Bel-Aire Center in Newport, Vermont.
Aurore was born on January 4, 1922 in New Bedford, Massachusetts to Joseph and Oglore (Moreau) Bouchard, and was raised on a dairy farm in Jay, Vermont. She was the last survivor amongst seven siblings, having been predeceased by Albert, Irene (Lemaire), George, Raymond, Delphis and Therese (Becotte).
She married her loving husband Maurice Joseph Morin on September 21, 1944, who predeceased her on April 23, 1997 at the age of 80. They raised their family on the farm on North Hill in Troy and later moved to a 5-bedroom home in downtown Troy where she lived for the remainder of her life.
She is survived by her five children: Roger and Diane Morin (predeceased on July 28, 2010) of Troy, Jeannine and Wayne Boyce of Grand Prairie, Texas, Bernard and Cindy Morin of Grand Prairie Texas, Ronald and Michele Morin of Burlington, Roland and Nancy Morin of Dalton, Massachusetts.
She leaves a total of 18 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren. Her love for her family could be seen by her interest in each of them, remembering all their birthdays, and always so happy to greet them when they came to visit or when they called up to talk to her.
She enjoyed gardening, knitting, loved playing bingo and was the number one fan of the Boston Celtics. She may be best known, however, for her quilt-making, a skill she learned from her father. In her lifetime, she has made over 100 quilts, hand-stitched with love on her father’s antique quilt frame. She gave at least one quilt to each member of her family, including every single descendant and their spouses – even to the youngest who is not yet born. Through her quilts, she will be fondly remembered every time they are used.
The hard work of her early years continued throughout her life. One important goal that Aurore and Maurice shared was to ensure that their children received a Catholic education at Sacred Heart in Newport. While the children were young, Aurore took on extra jobs wallpapering and providing childcare in order to pay for the bus to transport the children each day. She later spent several years catering with Fern and John Meunier (Green Valley Restaurant) while also working at Weyerhaeuser in North Troy. She then went to work for Indian Head Plywood (now CFP) until she retired.
A favorite weekend pastime on many Saturday nights for Aurore and Maurice was playing cards (Cinq cents - 500) with friends and neighbors including the Morrissettes, Routhiers, Bathalons, Lalibertys and LeBlancs. Many games, laughs and fond memories were enjoyed.
Aurore was a life-time member of Weight Watchers and a recorder for several years. Her support, encouragement and example were an inspiration to many people.
She was an active member at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Troy, attending Mass daily as well as every weekend. Her faith in God was obvious to all who knew her. Her gifts to the parish included years of donating her time and skills as a member of the Ladies of St. Anne, working on countless church lunches, dinners, and quilts to be raffled for the church.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Sacred Heart Parish Building Fund, 18 North Pleasant Street, North Troy, VT 05859. Calling hours will be on Sunday, February 18 from 6:00-8:00 pm at the Curtis-Britch-Converse-Rushford Funeral Home, 4670 Darling Hill Road in Newport.

Thomas Edward Snay
....show
- Our beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle and friend, Thomas Edward Snay unexpectedly made the journey home to be with our Lord on May 23rd, 2018. Tom was born in Newport on March 28, 1946 to Edward Thomas Snay and Lila B. Snay.
Tom was a master electrician, and for many years operated his own successful business “Tom’s Electric”. Sometimes he bartered his services, wiring barn lighting in exchange for an old motorcycle or a side of beef. Other times he refused payment altogether if he sensed someone needed the help. That is just who Tom was….generous, caring and always looking for something to challenge his mind. Tom was a member of the Baptist Church on East Main St. in Newport, and found great peace and strength in attending services each Sunday morning. Tom was a graduate of Liberty Bible School and occasionally led the congregation in the minister’s absence.. The power of his belief in our Lord Jesus Christ as his savior shone from him like a warm summer sun, and was evident to anyone who ever met him. Tom was also a retired SSGT with the VT Army National Guard, having served for over 20 years. Among his many other “pastimes”, as he liked to call them was running his gun shop “Bear Mountain Sports”, and creating things out of seemingly nothing. On his property still today stands the rear axle out of an old Chevy pickup that he anchored upright out of the ground, somehow converted to run on electricity and transformed it all into a motorized tire swing for his grandchildren. Tom also taught an electrical classe at the Northern State Correctional Facility in Newport.
During his spare time, which was scarce, Tom enjoyed riding his Harley, woodworking (he made all of his children “strumsticks”, which are an unusual type of 3 string guitar), and watching NASCAR. Tom had an engine interest, which is to say if it had an engine, he was interested. Back in the early 80’s Tom built a ’68 Firebird dirt track car, which he raced every Sunday afternoon at the Can-Am speedway in Coventry. He somehow came into possession of an early 90’s Geo Metro, which he promptly altered to accommodate a V8. He had an old blazer kicking around, so he took the 6 cylinder out of it and completely fabricated a frame for it, creating a “trike”
First and foremost, Tom loved his family, and took great joy out of time spent with them. His grandchildren were the highlight of his life, and they loved him immensely, as did we all. he is survived by his beloved wife, Sandra (Lawson) Snay of Newport Center, his children Amy and her husband Bart Jacobs of Holland, Tara and her husband James Chaffee of Dover, NH, Michelle and her husband Ed Sargent of Newport Center, Donald and Kama Lamoureux of Newport Center, Rick Lamoureux of Texas, and siblings Sylvia Lucas, Jerry Snay and his wife Sue, Jayne Maxwell and her partner Richard Peloquin. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Tom was predeceased by his parents and his brother in law Albert.
Many who knew Tom sensed that he would never slow down. He enjoyed being busy, facing challenges and solving problems. He just kept going, and going. Until this past Wednesday, when he finally stopped. Now we must face the future without him, his wisdom and his guidance. It will be a challenge for all who knew him to ever fill the void that he has left in our souls, but we can all rejoice in the fact that he has gone home and is at peace with our lord.
A service will be held on Saturday June 2nd, 2018 at 1:00 pm at the Newport Baptist Church.

Arline “Pat” Hunt
....show
- With a welcoming smile and an outstretched hand, “Hi, I’m Pat Hunt”, she greeted the world. Never to meet a stranger, she had friends wherever she went. Once you were in Pat’s address book, you never came off. Pat’s friends accumulated throughout her lifetime, from her earliest of childhood days, through high school, college, multiple career endeavors, golf, skiing, and bridge.
Arline “Pat” Hunt peacefully left us on May 1, 2018 with her family close, God’s hand leading her to be with others she has loved and lost.
Born Arline Camp Brush in New York City on January 23, 1928, she grew up in West Hartford, Connecticut. The eldest of three children to Donald Linsley Brush and Arline Camp Brush, Pat enjoyed her early years in Hartford and at her family’s cottage on Belle Island actively participating in the Baptist Church Youth Group and at William Hall High School.
In 1945 she moved to Burlington to attend the University of Vermont “to ski and find a husband”, graduating in 1949 with a degree in mathematics. Through her college years she was active in sports, cheerleading and unlimited social activities; she joined Kappa Alpha Theta sorority and participated in Greek activities throughout her life. Her ties to UVM continued, acting as Secretary of her alumni class into her late 80’s.
She married her UVM boyfriend, Paul H. Hunt of Derby Line on August 20, 1949. During their initial years, Pat and Paul spent time in Connecticut and Burlington before settling in the Northeast Kingdom where Paul accepted a position with the US Customs in Island Pond and Norton.
In the 1950s Pat became the mother of three boys, Gerry, Donny, and Andy. While raising them, she settled into the Island Pond community roles as a swimming instructor, school coach, school board member, and a freelance reporter for several newspapers. She was an avid golfer at Orleans Country
Club where she was a two-time women’s club champion, had two holes in one, and for many years helped manage Ladies State Days at clubs throughout Vermont. She and the family enjoyed skiing at
Burke Mountain. In 1964 she was selected as Mrs. Vermont, taking her to the Mrs. America pageant in St. Petersburg, Florida. Always interested in politics, Pat was a frequent volunteer leader with Vermont
Young Republicans and was active in many campaigns at the state and local levels. In 1968, she served as a delegate for the Republican National Convention in Miami. The family relocated to Morgan in 1968 where they built the family home from her design; she lived there for 50 years until the time of her death. Pat continued to stay active in the community serving
on the Vermont and National State Boards of Education during the period of planning and construction of the Vermont Union School Districts, the Vermont Board of Historic Sites, Vermont Council of Humanities,
as well as an 8-year term as the Editor of the Vermont Electric Co-op magazine. Pat traveled extensively in Vermont and the United Sates in her many state and national volunteer positions. She became known
as the local publicist for many Northeast Kingdom events such as the Morgan Church Sugar on Snow Dinner each July, sports competitions including the Olympic trials, and many human-interest stories. She
served in numerous positions for Morgan including town selectman.
Once her sons left for college, Pat began a career as a tax preparer, initially working with H&R Block. She quickly decided to start her own tax business, Pat Hunt, Inc., in Newport. In her early years as an Enrolled Agent, she established herself as a leader and role model, quickly rising to the VTPA Board of Directors, then President. The business is in its 40th year of service, managed by her son Don.
Pat and Paul started traveling to Europe, particularly to visit their two sons stationed with the US Army in Germany. When Paul passed away in March, 1987, Pat operated Hunt’s Bed and Breakfast in her home for nearly three decades. Countless French students were hosted at her home while they worked across the Canadian border at the Tivoli plant as part of their national obligation. She continued her world travels with several different travel companions to visit her sons in Europe, sometimes as a volunteer with
Earth Watch, but always seeking adventure and new friends in Madagascar, New Zealand, Easter Island, Nepal, China, Russia, Europe, Hawaii, Costa Rica, and Chile to name some of the 61 countries she visited.
After many years a widow, Pat attended her 58th reunion at William Hall High School where she reconnected with her high school sweet heart, Al Callahan, himself a widower. They both found great enjoyment in each other’s company – golfing, boating, bridge games, winters in Florida, the Boston Red Sox, and traveling. Pat amazed her grandchildren with her technical abilities. Despite being 90, she loved to communicate with friends on Facebook and e-mail every day, kept her WIFI going, did all her
banking on-line, and had command of her cell phone. Pat played bridge all her life and has been a regular at local bridge clubs for many years, relishing the opportunity to continue writing bridge game results for the local newspapers.
