Lebanon, NH – Glenda Burr Perkins
....show , age 84, died peacefully on August 17, 2018 surrounded by family.
Glenda was born in Montpelier, Vermont to Glendon and Pearl (Adams) Burr. Glenda was raised by family and friends after her mother passed away when she was two. She spent most of her life in St. Johnsbury, graduating from St. Johnsbury Academy. She married Wayne Perkins and together they raised three children, Kathy, John and Craig. They had one other child, Mark, who died soon after birth.
Glenda was very proud to have been a 50+ year member of the Grace United Methodist Church. She was especially proud to have once served on the search committee for a new Pastor. She was active in her church and loved working on the Christmas Bazaars, particularly the “cookie” table. She was also active in scouting, serving as a den mother for several years and was honored to be the mother of an Eagle Scout.
Glenda worked in healthcare her entire career. First at Brightlook Hospital, then St. Johnsbury Hospital and NVRH. After retiring from the hospital, she worked for several years in the surgical office of Dr. Danielson.
She spent her life caring for others, including her husband Wayne, who suffered with Alzheimer’s Disease for many years. After losing him in 2010, she carried on with great strength even though her heart was broken. A few years later, she was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, yet continued to live with strength and dignity. However, her heart was broken again when it became apparent she could no longer live on her own, having to give up her much loved cat Missy and the apartment she so loved at Maple Manor.
Known as “Perk” to friends and Mom, Nana and Nana Nana to her family, she was loved and respected and will be greatly missed. She was an eternal optimist, always full of hope and believing that tomorrow will be better than the day before. She loved being with her family and especially enjoyed caring and cooking for them. She loved the years spent camping with the family and always made things fun for them. Glenda provided lots of fond memories for friends and family, one of which is the little change purse she always kept full and tucked in her pocket so she could buy treats at the camp store.
She was a caring mother, grandmother and great grandmother to the end, always checking on us and making sure we were all safe and sound. She was pre-deceased in 2010 by her husband of nearly 60 years, Wayne Perkins; her son Mark in 1960; her parents; several brother and sister in-laws; and a half brother and half sister.
She is survived by three children: daughter Katherine (Perkins) Belding and husband Warren of Concord, NH; son John Perkins and wife Trina of Hartland, VT.; and son Craig Perkins and companion Karen Jamieson of Haverhill, MA. Six grandchildren: Christopher Belding and wife Kristalyn; Robert Belding and wife Nicole; Jeremy Perkins and wife Jennifer, Gabriel Perkins, Jennifer Perkins and companion Rob Tessier, Heather (Perkins) St. Onge and husband Peter. Eight great grandchildren: Ariana, Noah, and Elias Belding; Joss Perkins; Heavyn, Neese, and Brynley St. Onge; and Aine McGonigal as well as several nieces and nephews
The family is very thankful for her close friends and neighbors at Maple Manor. Their love and support while she lived there was overwhelming. Thank you to all her friends in St. Johnsbury as well. She missed living there the last years of her life, as that was always home for her. Thank you to her church friends from the Methodist churches in St. Johnsbury and Lebanon, as well as friends from the First Congregational Church in Lebanon who kept in touch and continued to visit or send cards throughout, even after she moved to Genesis. An added thank you to the staff at Genesis and Bayada Hospice, who were involved in her care and who supported her family through a difficult time.

David Webster Mitchell
....show , 88, of Lyndonville, VT, passed away on October 21st. He is the son of Walter and Catherine (Webster) Mitchell.
Dave found the love of his life at age 19, and after 4 years of pursuing Cappy Payette, the two married in August of 1953.
Dave was a life-long horse lover and is well known across New England for his horse pulling. He started pulling horses in 1948 driving pairs of (mostly) Belgians, starting off his pulling vocation at the Orleans County (Barton) Fair. He continued pulling until the age of 84, which says a bit about his personality and perseverance!
For over three decades, Dave was a logger and used his horses to haul trees. He started his logging career with his brother Jack, and over the years he managed to drag all 5 of his sons into the woods in order to cut 55 cords of wood by each Friday. He taught his boys about the woods, how to hunt, and instilled a strong work ethic in each of them. As tough as he was, he was not above crawling into a Lion King tent to spend time with his grandchildren, or trying his hand at skateboarding with his great-grandchildren. He was happiest when his barn was full of horses and his house was full of friends and family.
Together, Dave and Cappy had 5 ‘little angels.’ When they say “it takes a village,” that was no understatement for Dave and Cappy, as they raised many other children in their home, in addition to their own. Dave is survived by his wife, Catherine (Cappy) Mitchell; 4 sons: Dale Mitchell, Sr., Dennis “Dan” Mitchell, Sr. (Michelle Hagman), Dwight “Ike” Mitchell, Sr., and Douglas Mitchell; 10 grandchildren: Amy Mitchell, Jennifer Adams (Kurt), Ann Ruggles (George Jr.), Dennis Mitchell, Jr. (Paula Aliano), Dale Mitchell, Lisa Mitchell, Dawn Mitchell, Meghan Mitchell, Dwight Mitchell, Jr., and Dana Mitchell; 9 great-grandchildren: Kyle, Jordan, Nikko, Landon, Sonoma, David, Will, Lydia, and Jake; his dog, Chip; his siblings: Leslie Mitchell (June) and Carroll Mitchell, Sr. (Brenda); other loved ones: Valerie Carreau, Rose Ramsdell, and Jen Mitchell; several nieces, nephews, and in-laws. Dave is predeceased by his son, David A. Mitchell, and his siblings; Jackson Mitchell, Sr. (Della), Beverly Lawson (Ed), Barbara Chamberlain (Sid), Hazen (Flossy) Mitchell, and Richard Mitchell (Francine).

Edith (“Edie”) Bell-Brown
....show , 71, passed away December 11, 2018 in Concord, Vt., after a long struggle with cancer. She was the widow of Robin W. Brown, who predeceased her in 1999, and the daughter of the late Edith Molitor Bell and the late Alexander L. Bell. Edie began her life on January 3, 1947 in northern New Jersey, where she graduated from Jonathan Dayton Regional High School and attended Newark State College.
In 1978, she moved to Vermont and after caring for her disabled mother for many years, Edie returned to college in 1984 at the age of 37. She began a new life as a full time student at Lyndon State College at a time when “adult learners” were a rare sight on college campuses. She worked helping other students at the Academic Support Center, participated in a full range of campus activities, and always managed to excel in her studies. She met her husband, Robin Brown, at Lyndon State where he was a member of the faculty.
At her graduation in 1988 with a degree in English, Edie delivered one of the student commencement speeches. She also received special recognition by becoming a member of the Arthur B. Elliot Honor Society; the highest honor bestowed by the college for outstanding achievement in the area of scholarship, leadership, service to the college, and dedication to a chosen profession.
Edie joined her husband when he was appointed the art department faculty chair at Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville. There she continued her studies in American and English literature and completed her masters’ degree in English in 1999. Her scholarship was noted with an honors convocation award and her induction to the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. Her perfect recollection and ability to recite her favorite poems was a source of strength and comfort in her final days.
After her husband’s death Edie returned to Lyndon Vermont, the community she loved. Edie settled in a small cozy house with a series of much loved “Jellicle” cats. For several years she taught English part-time for Lyndon State and tutored adults enrolled in Johnson State’s External Degree Program. Edie shared her passion for literature, literacy, and education by serving as the president of the Friends of the Cobleigh Library from 2005-2011 coordinating countless book sales, raffles, and coin drops. She also served the Lyndon community as a Justice of the Peace and on the Board of Civil Authority since 2014.
What Edie will be most remembered for is her passion for politics and the extraordinary number of close and enduring friendships she made as a hardworking volunteer for Democrats in Caledonia County, and for races at all levels of government, including her own candidacy for the Lyndon, Sutton, Burke seat in the Vermont House of Representatives. She was widely recognized as someone who worked tirelessly without seeking personal glory or recognition.
Edie served as a representative from Caledonia County to the Vermont State Democratic Committee for the past decade, held positions of Vice Chair and Treasurer of the Lyndon Town Democratic Committee since 2011, and served in several positions on the county committee for over a dozen years. She has been widely recognized for giving her time and energy unselfishly to the people and Democratic causes she supported. Edie was known to deflect discussions about her personal health to focus on the realities of the U.S. health care system and the need to make sure everyone had access to quality care.
Edie was predeceased by her brother, Alexander (Sandy) Bell. She is survived by a wide circle of friends and admirers, who have been touched by her generosity and grace, especially her friend since grade school, Christine Nicosia of Venice, Florida, and her cherished friend, Mildred LaBeur of West Danville.

Gerald Panaccione
....show , known as Jerry, passed away on Wednesday, December 19, 2018, at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital, his daughter Donna by his side. He was one day shy of his 95th birthday.
Jerry was born in Newark, NJ on December 20, 1923, to Modesto and Maria (Zigarelli) Panaccione.
He always had a strong work ethic, from delivering newspapers at age 12, to painting in the National Youth Association program, working as a stone mason’s helper, and trying his hand hawking fruits and vegetables from a horse-drawn cart on city streets. His real love was auto mechanics, and he kept working to that end. In frustration he quit school in the middle of tenth grade when he didn’t get into the autoshop class. He worked at various jobs until joining the army at age 20, serving in Italy during WWII. He served as a cook and in the artillery, and spoke about his army experiences throughout his life. He also served four years in the Air National Guard.
The GI Bill provided funds to take a tune-up course. Jerry worked in several garages, gaining experience. He eventually opened his own garage and gas station in Newark, where he met his future bride, Sally Barone. They married on November 22, 1953, and began a family. Jerry was nearly crushed when a car slipped out of gear in his shop. During his ten month recuperation, he had Sally bring him books on electronics to learn a new trade. He took a class and got books from the library.
Jerry worked for about eight years at Federal Pacific Electric, Newark, NJ. He worked in the sheet metal department as an assembler. Jerry made extra money as a cab driver in Montclair, and he and Sally bought their first house in Belleville, NJ. They also bought a small property in Sussex County, where the family enjoyed weekends at the lake.
With the children grown, Jerry and Sally started to travel. Their first trip was to Italy, then Hawaii, California, Las Vegas, Arizona. They also traveled to military reunions, and took regular trips to Vermont to visit his daughter Donna and family.
When Jerry got a job at Automatic Switch Company in Florham Park, he wired panel boards for switching units. They moved to East Hanover. Jerry retired after 22 years, and another move followed, to Little Egg Harbor.
The last move was to West Burke, VT to be near Donna and Andrew. Sally developed Alzheimer’s Disease, and Jerry needed help. He made sure that Sally was well cared for.
Jerry loved home cooking. A typical question was, “Did you make this?” Food was suspect if it wasn’t homemade by family! He later acquired a fondness for McDonald’s chicken sandwich though.
He also loved to learn new things. He was always buying books on a myriad of subjects. He looked up definitions and took lots of notes. He continued working on cars for many years, gardening, laying cement, planting trees, staying active.
Jerry loved hard work, but he came to truly value his family too. He was proud of his children and grandchildren, and expressed that to Donna up until his last days.
Jerry is survived by three children, a daughter; Donna Otto and husband, Andrew of West Burke, VT;
two sons: Gerald Panaccione and wife, Marianne of East Hanover, NJ, and Mark Panaccione of Hornell, NY; seven grandchildren: Elizabeth Bedor and husband, Jason of St. Johnsbury, VT, Andrea Otto of West Burke, James Otto of Burlington, VT, Michael Panaccione of East Hanover, NJ, Danielle Panaccione and husband, Mark Pabers, of Flemington, NJ, Tina White and partner, Matthew Frechette of Hornell, NY, and Melissa Makarick and husband, Evan of Corning, NY; and seven great-grandchildren: Drea and Waverly Bedor, Aiden Panaccione, Lilly and Kadence White, and Gracie and Oliver Makarick.
He was predeceased by his wife of 61 years, Sally; his parents, Modesto and Maria; five siblings: Frank, Nick, Marie Clemente, Edith Zagoric, and Jenny Rizzo; and his wife’s parents and siblings.
