Paul L. Achilles
....show , 66, Lyman New Hampshire, died June 14, 2017, near his home in Lyman NH. He was born on February 22, 1951 in Barnet, VT to Mildred Evelyn (Campbell) and Bernard Elwin Achilles. He grew up in Barnet, Groton, and Barre Vermont, attended local schools and married Auralie Marie Aldrich June 26, 1971 at the South Ryegate Presbyterian Church in Vermont. As an adult he lived in South Ryegate, Willoughby Lake, and Brattleboro Vermont before moving to Lyman, New Hampshire.
Paul worked in factories in Littleton and Lisbon for a brief while after being married but decided that his heart was not in it. He then bought a spud driller from Ernest Aldrich, and began drilling artesian wells. He worked drilling wells with his father-in-law Myron Aldrich and later with his brother Roy Achilles. Spud drilling was a slow and laborious way to drill artesian wells and it was soon crowded out by rotary drillers. Paul decided to become a technician for Eastern Artificial Insemination where he worked as a relief technician covering from the Canadian Border to Thetford Vt. It was during this time period that he felt that he could not afford to purchase a home so decided to build his own. He purchased cedar logs off his brother Roy, who was logging at the time, and bought an Alaskan Saw Mill which was just an attachment he put on a chain saw. With the logs, the Alaskan Saw Mill, and no real experience in house building he, with the help of his brothers, brothers by marriage, and friends, put up a small log cabin on Aldrich Road in Lyman, NH. Little did he know that this was just the beginning of a way of life for him. Since that time he has built another home for himself and his wife, a spec house, and a large double log cabin at Ogontz camp. He assisted his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Kim and Lurette Lyndes, to build their log cabin home right down the road from his own first cabin. He was also contracted to build another home from scratch in Lyman, NH as well as build several garages, out buildings, and do repairs on old barns in Lyman and several surrounding towns. He was hired to build a log cabin in Lyman New Hampshire for Jeff Towle, with whom he soon developed a heartfelt friendship. Paul had the pleasure of assisting on another log cabin for his friends Todd and Cathy Lemieux of Errol New Hampshire. He worked with and for good friends and still talked of that experience with great fondness. The building that had the most sentimental value of all was the smallest of buildings, a chicken coop for his mother-in-law Della Mae Aldrich. Around the time of her death that building was moved from her property to his own and to this day it sits behind his second log cabin in Lyman, NH. He also had his own logging business, Achilles Logging, and later bought a Mack Truck he called “Old Blue”. With Old Blue he started Achilles Trucking and a new era of hauling and dirt work. In March of this year at age 66 he retired but was still doing some hauling of gravel on and off up until the time of his death. Paul served his community as the last Constable for the Town of Lyman as well as serving as a Selectman. Paul’s true pleasure in life was helping others and he had recently rediscovered his love for fishing.
Paul is survived by his wife Auralie Achilles, of Lyman NH, step-father Robert Chamberlin of Brattleboro Vermont, brother George Achilles and wife Linda of Lyman New Hampshire, Sister Hazel LaValley and husband Jimmy previously of Brattleboro Vermont, and Mildred Green of Bellows Falls, Vermont. Although Paul did not have any biological children his surrogate children were his many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great great nieces and nephews plus the children of special friends whom he loved dearly. Among those he leaves behind are numerous friends that Paul has made over the course of his lifetime and his current loves his dogs Pip and Abbie, cat Smokey and his “shared” Yorkie Tess. He is predeceased by his mother Mildred Campbell Chamberlin, his brother Bernard Achilles, and his brother Roy Achilles, and by special loves of his life, his dogs, Della, Mollie, and Sadie.
There will be a Celebration of Paul’s Life at The Pole Barn, 27 Weymouth Road Lyman NH, on Saturday June 24th at 1 pm. All are welcome There will be a pig roast since as we all know a pig roast was one of the great pleasures in Paul’s life. Feel free to bring a dish and any pictures of Paul that you would like to share. You may also wish to bring a folding chair. Those who choose to honor Paul’s memory with a donation may do so by making a donation to any animal shelter of your choice. A heartfelt thank you to Dale Colby, Wilfred Paye, Steve Santy, Jeff Towle and Scott Newton. You will never know how much you meant to Paul.

Joan attended St. Rose of Lima Grammar School and was a 1946 graduate of Littleton High School. As a young woman, she worked at MacLeod’s Store on Main Street, and from 1970 to 1992 she worked as a paraprofessional and office assistant at Lakeway Elementary School.
Music was an important part of Joan’s life. She was a trained soprano with a beautiful voice. She loved to sing and sang at St. Rose of Lima Church for many years.
Joan grew up across the street from Francis Fillion, and they were classmates in school. They started dating when Francis returned to Littleton after serving in World War II and were married on June 17, 1950. They enjoyed and appreciated their 67 years together, and one of the last things Joan said was, “I’ve had a wonderful life.”
Anyone who knew Joan knows that she loved her home, loved to cook, and loved to bake. Her home was always neat as a pin, and no one ever visited without offers of delicious treats. Many years ago Joan took a cake decorating class. She enjoyed the class, practiced the techniques that were taught, and made many cakes for special occasions, including the lovely wedding cakes enjoyed at her children’s weddings.
Joan could sew and crochet very well, but what she most liked to do was knit. She created wonderful things for her family and friends. Her favorite knitting projects were sweaters, bonnets, and booties for babies and intricate, personalized Christmas stockings for the members of her family.
Music, baking, cooking, and knitting were all things that Joan loved, but the thing that she loved most was her family. She was a hard worker with high standards, and she would do absolutely anything for her husband, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Her family was the primary focus of everything that she did, and she and Francis were the gravitational force that kept the family close.
Joan was predeceased by her parents, a sister Frances (Gadbois) Messick of Poquoson, VA, and a brother, Robert Gadbois, of Littleton. Cameron “Cam” Burns MacDonald
....show , 18, Bethlehem, born April 26, 1999 in Littleton, to David and Suzanne (Cady) MacDonald, tragically passed away on Sunday September 24, 2017 in the early morning hours as a result of a car accident. That morning we lost not only a ray of sunshine, but a rising star from our community.
In the short time Cam was here, he made an impact on all of those he met. He had the ability to take the negative and throw it aside, and seek happiness without fear of any judgment that was passed. He lived exuding a gentle kindness, selflessness, a hard to find caring calmness, and a curiosity about everything.
Cam was a vital member of the Profile Class of 2017. He was known for singing his own raps in the classroom and on stage. He played soccer, and basketball, but he found his true character in the unified basketball team. There he could spread his optimism and love for life and others.
Cam spent his summers between working at Summer Recreation programs, and camping with his parents at Sugar Ridge in Danville, Vermont. His positive outlook far outshined the campfires, and lifted the spirits of all who engaged in conversation.
Cam found his true passion at WLTN, delivering music and dialogue to all of those who would listen. He successfully pursued his love of music this year at Lyndon State, and even more as DJ “Slim Macky Mac”. Friends that know him, say he could ‘spit some pretty sick beats’.
He will be remembered by his huge smile and sense of humor. He had a light about him, a way of making others smile even when they didn’t want too. He could make strangers feel like friends. His love for his family, friends and community knew no boundaries.
Cam lived life like it had no limit. We could all take inspiration from it. He couldn’t have expressed it better by stating, “Never let life bypass you without enjoying the simple smiles you are obligated to share with others. A soul cleansing gesture such as a smile has the power to enlighten you for the rest of your days. So please smile life is too short to frown. "
Cam is survived by his parents, David and Suzanne MacDonald of Bethlehem, grandparents, B. Elton and Evelyn Cady of Littleton, and, Julia O’Malley-Keyes of Cape Cod, MA, a sister Allison MacDonald, of Bethlehem, his cat Midget, and his special Sugar Ridge Family. Joel Nute Peabody
....show , 70, of Franconia, NH, passed away peacefully on January 18, 2017. A celebration of Joel’s life will be held at Maplewood Golf Resort on Saturday, March 25th at 10:30 followed by an informal gathering for friends and family to share memories.
Joel was born in Franconia, NH to Roger and Louise Nute Peabody on October 29, 1946. He went to Littleton High School and graduated in 1965. With the exception of some time spent out in Sandpoint, Idaho, Joel made his home in Franconia with his wife of 48 years, Tina Dudley Peabody, and raised his 3 daughters, Nicole, Samantha, and Heather.
Joel, or “Peabs”, as he was fondly referred to, spent his life dedicated to serving others: as the Assistant Ski Patrol Director at Cannon Mountain and NH State Parks employee in Franconia Notch State Park; as a police officer for the Town of Franconia, and as Chief of the Franconia Life Squad. His passion for helping others extended beyond the official work capacity; He could always be found helping his daughters and their teammates in the role of assistant coach or team EMT, assisting with Search & Rescue efforts, helping local Fish & Game officers, or in simply offering directions to a stranger passing through. Joel was always able to strike up a conversation with anyone and walk away having made a new friend.
After retiring, Joel found more time to spend on the golf course, a sport he loved and had always shared with his father Roger and brothers Jere, Jon, and Jay. He made new friends and golf buddies in his work at Maplewood Golf Resort in Bethlehem, NH and could be found there just about any weekend, if you got up as early as he did to water the greens.
For Joel, family was everything and he cherished the times he shared with those he loved. Family gatherings, whether nightly dinners at home, or reunions held at camps on Forest Lake, were a time filled with laughter, fun and food and if the gathering was big enough, you could be sure Joel was making a chocolate cream pie to share with everyone.
Joel was a caring husband, a loving father, and a friend to so many and his passing leaves a void that will never be filled in the hearts of his family and in the community he called home. However, Joel will always be home in the White Mountains of New Hampshire and in the words of John Denver, “Country Roads, Take me Home, To the place I belong…Take me Home, down Country Roads.”
Joel is preceded in death by his mother, Louise Nute Peabody and father, Roger Peabody.
He leaves behind his wife, Tina Dudley Peabody of Franconia, NH; daughters, Nicole (and husband Michael) Elliott of Victor, ID, Samantha McClary of Franconia, NH, and Heather (and husband William Jr) Hardy of Newport, NH; brothers Jere (and wife Nancy) Peabody of The Villages, FL, Jon (and wife Sue) Peabody, of Franconia, NH, and Jay Peabody of Lisbon, NH; sisters Janet (and husband Paul) Damiano of Port Orange, FL, and Jennifer (and husband Rick) Gaudette of Franconia, NH; as well as 5 grandchildren: Nicholas and Kayden Elliott of Victor, ID, Ayla & Kalin McClary of Franconia, NH, and Charleigh Hardy of Newport, NH; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Joel’s name to either of the following:
Roland Peabody Memorial Fund, 270 Iron Foundary Road, Franconia, NH 03580
New Hampshire Law Enforcement Memorial Association, PO Box 3864, Concord, NH 03302
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the doctors and nurses at Littleton Regional Hospital, Dartmouth Hitchcock, and North Country Home Health & Hospice Agency; and also to Ross Funeral Home, Trevor and Dana at Maplewood Golf Resort and the many family members, coworkers and friends that have been there over the years for Joel and his family. In Joel’s passing, you have all truly shown how much he not only meant to us, but to all of you as well.
Sunshine on my shoulders makes me happy, sunshine in my eyes can make me cry.
Sunshine on the water looks so lovely, sunshine almost always makes me high.
If I had a day that I could give you, I'd give to you the day just like today.
If I had a song that I could sing for you, I'd sing a song to make you feel this way.
~ John Denver

Bethlehem resident Timothy William Wennrich
....show peacefully slipped the bonds of Earth this past weekend. After nearly 71 years of exploration and fun, he is reunited with his loving wife, Marianne, who forged ahead 12 years ago into the Great Beyond.
Tim lived a life often depicted in adventure books of old; he traveled extensively throughout the world, often relying on the kindness of strangers to help him along. An avid outdoorsman, he was never far from his trusty bike, travelling throughout Europe, the British Isles, and South America, finding the exotic and bringing back photos and mementos for his family to exclaim over. He loved to share a drink with new friends in a local tavern in a far-away land. Tim also loved local excursions: golfing, skiing, hiking, and canoeing the Adirondack Mountains from the time he was a boy well into his adulthood. He would pass along this love of exploration to his children and grandchildren who would often join him on an adventure or two.
Born in upstate New York, Tim grew up in Glens Falls where he met a pretty young nursing student, Marianne Angelo and began a love affair lasting nearly 35 years that produced three wonderful boys. After living in Colorado, South Korea and Rhode Island, Tim moved his family to the northern New York and raised them in the town of Canton, where the Wennrichs spent their winters skiing throughout the Adirondack Mountains and their summers enjoying time at a family camp in Tupper Lake. He and Marianne not only taught their sons how to ski and appreciate the outdoors, they also taught their sons friends as well. They opened their home to relatives and friends alike, a place of love and learning.
Needing a profession to finance his passions, Tim was a small business owner and entrepreneur, starting several successful businesses throughout Northern New York. The most prominent being the well-loved Bagel Depot, the first coffee house/sandwich shop in Canton. In his later years, Tim turned to teaching, helping the young and old achieve their education goals. After retiring and moving to the local area, Tim would often be found with friends or alone on the ski slopes of Cannon or Bretton Woods, or on a local golf course, continuing to enjoy his love of outdoors well into his 70th year.

Joan (Gadbois) Fillion
....show passed away on Saturday, December 2, 2017. She was born on November 9, 1927 to Ephraim and Rose Gadbois of Littleton and was a member of the Littleton community for her entire 90 years of life.
She is survived by her husband, Francis Fillion; her children, Gail and husband Steven Holmes of Warner, NH, and Wayne and wife Shelley Fillion of Littleton; her grandchildren, Leslie Fillion and husband Rick Chartier of Manchester, NH, Sarah Fillion and husband Tyler Robison of Deering, NH, Matthew and wife Meridith Holmes of Whitefield, NH, Jeffrey Holmes of Jeffersonville, VT; and her two great grandchildren, Jacob and Adeline Holmes of Whitefield, NH.
A mass celebrating Joan’s life will be held at St. Rose of Lima Church on Thursday December 7, 2017 at 11AM. Burial will be a private family event held at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Joan’s name to St. Rose of Lima Church, 77 Clay Street, Littleton, NH 03561 or North Country Home Health & Hospice Agency, 536 Cottage Street, Littleton, NH 03561.
Sarah Verena Flynn
....show of Whitefield died in her bedroom on December 17, 2017, at the age of 30. During the last years of her life, she struggled with opioid addiction that has plagued our nation. But she isn’t just one more number to add to the total deaths or just one more young person taken too soon from us. She was and is so much more.
Sarah was born in Boston on June 26, 1987, to Vicki (Weaver) and Eamon Flynn, and she and her family moved soon after to East Concord, VT, where she celebrated her 1st birthday. Although she was an only child, she had many childhood friends and loving family, who constantly filled her home and life with joy and laughter.
As a young girl, she fished and tracked animals with her father and hiked and wrote poetry with her mother. She loved animals and music, and by the time she was 12, she was an advanced fiddle player of traditional Irish music. An athlete, Sarah enjoyed Tae-Kwon-Do, swimming, soccer, and basketball. She looked out for her friends and took pride in all she did. During her school years, she was an honor student, and after graduating from Concord High School, she attended Woodbury College, where she earned an Associate’s Degree in Paralegal Studies.
Sarah was a great heart full of hope and promise, with a bright future and a gift that the world lost and can never replace. Many rehabs and family help couldn’t help her win the battle; she inspired others, but she couldn’t find a way that could cure her. Her beautiful smile and contagious laughter will live on in many hearts. She was and is a beautiful soul.
Sarah leaves behind her parents, Vicki (Weaver) and Eamon Flynn; her half-sisters and brothers on her father’s side: David, Elaine (Healy), Edmund, Kevin, Siobhan (Clayton), and John Flynn; her aunt and uncle, Virginia (Weaver) and Dick Karson; 9 nephews, 8 nieces, and many, many cousins.
Celebration of Life: Concord School, 173 School St. Concord VT Friday, Dec. 29th, 4:00-6:00.
