Mathild (Tillie) V. Fugere
....show , 94, of Derby, VT passed away peacefully on March 16, 2015 in Newport. She was born on March 7, 1921 in Derby to Eugene and Mathilda (Marois) Vigneault. On June 1, 1948, she married Louis A. Fugere who predeceased her in 1971.
Tillie and her husband purchased the Fox Farm on Shattuck Hill over 60 years ago. In the early years, they raised beef cattle and chickens and any variety of farm animals in which their children were interested. As the good cook and seamstress that she was, Tillie inspired her children to learn these basic skills as well. Gardening was one of her favorite past times, and she spent many hours tending both vegetable and flower gardens. She appreciated nature, and in her later years she enjoyed the challenge of trying to capture some of its beauty through artwork. For a number of years she was active in square dancing and enjoyed the new friendships it offered.
Tillie was a bookkeeper for the former Chittenden Bank in Newport for over 30 years. Camaraderie with work colleagues endured throughout the years and she looked forward to her get-togethers with the “girls from the bank,” which continued regularly until recent months.
During her retirement, Tillie and her sister, Zelma, operated the Fox Farm as an antique and used furniture business. Together, they enjoyed wintering in Florida for a number of years. In the summer months, they spent time antiquing in Maine and New Hampshire and participating in many antique shows and flea markets throughout northern New England. Among the collections of glassware she appreciated most are the “hens and chicks on the nest.”
Tillie was a very faith-filled woman and devotion to the Church was important to her. She was a devout parishioner of St. Mary Star of the Sea and a member of the Ladies of St. Anne. She was also a loving grandmother, “Memere,” to three grandchildren who will remember her well for the seemingly bottomless jar of homemade sugar cookies that greeted them upon every visit, and for grilled cheese sandwiches cut in a special way in “little fingers.” The grandchildren will also tell you that Memere made the best doughnuts that can be found!
Tillie’s generous spirit, her unwavering devotion to her family and her faith, and her ability to live life joyfully will forever be an inspiration to those who loved her.
She is survived by her children: Louise Mathews and her husband Ed of Underhill Center, VT, Joanne Fedele and her husband John of Newport Center, VT, and Joseph Fugere and his wife Patricia of Hyattsville, MD. Also by her grandchildren: Alissa Fedele of New Orleans, LA, Genevieve Fugere and fiancé Stephen Hulick of Washington, DC, and Gavin Fugere also of Washington, DC, as well as by many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her caregiver and companion, Bonnie Little. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by two sisters Juliette in infancy and Zelma Vigneau on February 9, 2011.

It is said that one cannot choose how to die, but one can choose how to live. Bryce Wilson
....show , of Craftsbury, Vermont, passed from this life on March 9th after living a long life of quiet dignity.
Bryce was a life long educator. His career in education spanned almost 40 years. After stops in Derby and Hardwick Vermont, Bryce ultimately planted his roots in New Jersey where he was employed by the Waldwick Board of Education for 34 years. As a guidance counselor, teacher and coach, Bryce touched the lives of countless children. His calming manner will be remembered by all who came in contact with him. His subtle wit and wry sense of humor were Bryce’s hallmarks.
In 1959 Bryce and his wife Audrey, moved to New Jersey settling in the picturesque Cupsaw Lake section of Ringwood. They raised 4 children, and upon retirement the couple returned to the family farm in Craftsbury and opened the Whetstone Brook B&B. Audrey could often be found in her kitchen telling the guests about her cherished AGA stove. Bryce would regale the guests with tales of his 9 grandchildren, or the town history of Craftsbury or pretty much anything else. Bryce could converse with people from all walks of life.
Before his illness, Bryce was an avid golfer. He played 2 or 3 times a week…and never got better at it. He had a love hate relationship with the game. Several years ago, his clubs were…shall we say, mercifully liberated from the bed of his truck in the wee hours of the morning. Bryce was quoted as saying, “I hope those clubs cause whoever took them as much trouble as they caused me!” For anyone who has ever played with Bryce, we know that would be pretty tough to do.
Bryce is survived by his wife of nearly 57 years, Audrey; daughter Lisa Sedore and husband Tom of Craftsbury; son Terry and wife Ginger of Palmer, MA; daughter Karen Starr and husband David of Highland Lakes, NJ; and son Jim of Pompton Plains, NJ; grandchildren Katie and husband Nick Meyer, Jessie and husband David Upson, Megan and husband Jon Amell, Lindsay Sedore, Shannon Wilson, Joseph Starr, Connor Starr, Jonathan Wilson, and Julie Anne Wilson; Great grandchildren; Madison Amell and Henry Upson. His nephew Ian McMurray, his sister Ann Wilson and husband Warren Williams, also survives Bryce.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday March 21, 2015 at the United Church of Craftsbury Common with the Rev. Alan Parker officiating.
In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations be made in Bryce’s name to the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation 1359 Broadway, Suite 1509, New York, NY 10018
or The Greensboro Nursing Home, 47 Maggie’s Pond Road, Greensboro, VT 05841.

Wayne E. Doncaster, Sr
....show , 89, of Irasburg, VT passed away peacefully on February 10, 2015 in Newport. He was born on April 7, 1925 in Derby to Vernon and Annie (Aiken) Doncaster. In 1952 he married Elizabeth Rhodes who survives him.
As a young farmer on the home farm in Derby on Salem Lake, Wayne milked cows by hand, worked with horses in the hayfield and in the woods logging. He attended a one-room schoolhouse, and left high school early to work on the family farm with his mother while his father was away working as a master machinist. When tractors came to the area he was one of the first to have a hay baler and worked as a custom baler for many farmers. He ran a successful Christmas tree business with his father. After he married Elizabeth, he was hired as Herdsman at Eagle Point Farm by Mr. and Mrs. Bill Dunn. In 1956 Wayne and Elizabeth purchased Hillandale Farm and have lived and worked there ever since. He was an avid gardener and loved music. He played the steel guitar, accordion, guitar, the bones, and piano. He loved calling square dances and playing music with family and friends. He also loved family gatherings, being outdoors, fishing as a young boy on Salem Lake and was a history buff, especially about WWll. Education was important to him. He earned his GED Diploma, took a course in Animal Husbandry at the University of Connecticut, and studied music later on in life.
Wayne was a member of the Vermont State Guard, Company B, 3rd Division. He was active in 4-H as a Club Leader, the PTA, the Grange, and a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church. Wayne was a maple sugar maker for many years. With his wife, Elizabeth, they established Warebrook Kennel, during which time they bred champion St. Bernards. Wayne had a robust sense of humor and was well known for his wisdom, patience, fairness, and generosity. Wayne was an excellent herd manager and developed a registered herd of Jerseys that are descended from the original animals that came with Hillandale Farm. He took great joy in his farm – his cows, the land, and the historic buildings. He carefully retrofitted the 1875 barn for use as a modern dairy and was recognized by the Vermont Department of Historic Preservation and the Vermont Department of Agriculture with a “Barn Again” award for his work. Hillandale Farm and Waybee Jerseys will continue under the care of Wayne Jr, his wife, Jennifer, and family.
Most of all, Wayne was proud of his family.
