Eleanor (Kambour) Sableski
....show , a long-time resident and musician who lived in Durham and Chapel Hill, North Carolina, for 47 years, died on Wednesday, May 20, 2015, at Carney Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts, after a brief hospitalization.
She lived at Rogerson House in the Boston area for the past year.
Born in 1925 in Providence, Rhode Island, she grew up in northern Vermont and spent her summers at a family cottage on Shadow Lake in Glover. She attended Smith College briefly before relocating to Boston. She moved to the Triangle area in 1967, and soon found herself fully active in the life of the newly emerging Eno River Fellowship as the music director. Her musical talents bloomed over the years as she completed a degree in music education at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill and assumed musical leadership of the Common Womens Chorus from 1983 to 2001. As a choir conductor, she was kind, encouraging, and inspiring. She did not accept bad music (and what an ear she had!), and she elicited the best from the people she worked with. She was also a long-standing member of the Choral Society of Durham; her skill as a chorus member gave her the opportunity to perform in Israel and at Carnegie Hall, and she later participated in the Triangle Jewish Chorale and the Village Review. On at least one occasion she played the organ at Duke Chapel.
Each summer, she made a spiritual pilgrimage to her family cottage in Vermont, and a musical pilgrimage to SUUSI (Southeast Unitarian Universalist Summer Institute).
She moved to Rogerson House in May of 2014, and, in spite of a failing memory, made an impression on residents and staff alike as a human jukebox, playing hymns and leading sing-alongs for the residents on a daily basis. During her final days in the hospital she sang to the staff, her daughter, and her doctors.
She is survived by her three adult children and her daughter-in-law: Nancy Sableski and Anne Rousseau of Boston, Steven Sableski of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Sarah Sableski of Wilmington, North Carolina.
Memorial gifts may be made to the Vermont Land Trust at vlt.org, or the Campaign for Southern Equality at southernequality.org, or the Rogerson Communities at rogerson.org.
A memorial service was held in Durham, North Carolina, on June 6.
John David Christensen
....show of West Glover, beloved son, father, brother, and uncle, died on the morning of Thursday, May 28, 2015, in Newport.
He was born on March 2, 1951, to Christian Christensen and Marion Thornton.
He leaves behind a daughter, Kelsey Christensen; and a longtime partner, Roberta Ashe.
He was a professor and coordinator of online learning at the Community College of Vermont for over 25 years, consummately dedicated to learning and education in Vermont.
He will be missed by family, students, colleagues, and the community.
Brian David Round
....show , 37, of Newport died unexpectedly on May 31, 2015, in Hillsboro, Florida.
He was born on February 15, 1978, in Newport to David and Theresa Tess (Brochu) Round.
Mr. Round graduated from North County Union High School in 1996. He played soccer, was a member of the alpine ski team, and he enjoyed other outdoor recreations. He went on to study at the University of Vermont.
He became a wonderfully talented chef who was at his best when he let his talents and creativity lead him to delicious experiments. He could improvise a five-star meal from whatever materials he had available. He worked in many locations, which included stops at the Hillsboro Club in Florida, Big Sky Ski Resort in Montana, Basin Harbor Club in Vergennes, and Juniors and McKees in Winooski. He was especially close and had great friendships with the staff at McKees. As he did his culinary travels, he enjoyed meeting new people and exploring new locations.
He had a love and compassion for animals. He loved his pets and enjoyed the company of Mikey the dog, Mary Jane the cat, and had a special pet cat, Walter, when he was a youngster.
He was an incredibly voracious reader, often absorbing a book or more per week. He was the kind of person who preferred holding a real book in his hands instead of electronic gadgetry. He read every topic, but especially enjoyed historical novels. His recall of movies and famous movie lines was epic.
Lately he had many fishing adventures in fresh and salt water. He spent many days on the slopes on his Montana trip, and golfed at Basin Harbor. Video games, comedy shows like Family Guy, and music were also pleasures he enjoyed. A particularly special time was spent one spring working in the sugarhouse with his mom and uncle Rene. In the fall he especially liked hunting adventures in Virginia with his dad and uncles at Fort Willey.
Mr. Round was a man of few words, but on the occasion when he articulated on a subject, one had better listen as he had a wealth of information to share on nearly any topic. A conversation with Encyclopedia Round would always conclude with new knowledge, learning that took place, and a fresh perspective on the horizon. In his usual quiet way, you would have to listen carefully to catch his extremely intelligent sense of humor.
He is survived by his father, David Round, of Newport; his mother, Theresa Tess Round, and her companion, Todd Morey, of Troy; and by his brother Torrie Round of Grand Isle. He had a large number of relatives on both sides of his family, and has numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins who will miss him dearly. He also leaves the following aunts and uncles: Eva Brochu, Rita and Omar Choquette, and William and Sarah Round of Newport, Anna and Charles Sonny Sanville, Charles Buck, and Rene Brochu of Newport Center, Gerard Brochu and Mary and Michael Roy of Derby, Steven and Paula Brochu of Derby Line, Lea and Ron Cook of Irasburg, John Brochu and Claire Tetreault of North Troy, Alfred Brochu of Kentucky, Robert and Linda Round of Virginia, Clara Brochu of Maine, Patricia Patty Mann of New Hampshire, Martha Dupont of Florida, and John and Laurie Round of Illinois.
There will be a private graveside committal service for the family at a date to be determined. He will be interred with his grandmother Vera Jan Round, who predeceased him in January. He was also predeceased by his grandfather Franklin Round; and by his aunts: Maria Buck and Madeleine Brochu.
In lieu of flowers or donations, his family would like those inclined to purchase a book to read with a child or spend a quality day with a youngster fishing, hunting, camping, or doing another outdoor activity.

She attended public schools in Streetsville and Orangeville, Ontario, and was a member of the first class to graduate from York University in Toronto in 1963. Gerry Hunt
....show , 62, of Morgan died on May 5, 2015, at Columbia Medical Center in New York City, from pancreatic cancer discovered just two weeks earlier while traveling in Spain and Portugal. His beloved wife, Elaine Lockwood, and brothers, sons, and their partners were at his side.
Known for his uncommon kindness, warm smile, and joi-de-vivre, he was a man of great intelligence, accomplishment, humility, and wide-ranging interests. He was blessed with charisma and the simple gift of making everyone around him feel important and loved. It was always easy for his children, his wife, and brothers to look to him for guidance.
Son of Pat Hunt and the late Paul Hunt, he was born in Burlington in 1952. He grew up in Island Pond and later Morgan, with his brothers Don and Andy. He enjoyed skiing at Burke Mountain, fishing in Island Pond and Lake Seymour, biking, and camping trips with the family. As a teenager, he met and fell in love with Ms. Lockwood during summers at the Orleans Country Club. Although they slowly lost contact when he went off to university, he would speak of her as his first real love.
In 1970 he graduated from St. Pauls and continued on to serve as an intern for Vermont Senator Winston Prouty in Washington, D.C. After the internship, he enrolled at the University of Vermont (UVM) as a film major and was heavily involved in UVM theater as both cast and crew, a passion he later shared with his eldest son, Eli. During the 1980s he directed a number of plays in Woodstock. When UVM celebrated the fortieth anniversary of their Royal Tyler Theater in 2014, he helped organize the event including restoring the 1974 recordings of The Contrast, the first show performed in the theater, in which he had acted.
Mr. Hunt met the mother of his children, Faith Gaskell Hunt, at Vietnam War demonstrations in Washington, D.C. After graduation from UVM, they married and moved to Hartford to start a family. He worked at the Veterans Administration in White River Junction, and earned his MA in public administration from Antioch University.
He later redirected his career, entering the software industry, working for Houghton Mifflin and then Computer Microsystems Incorporated. There he discovered his entrepreneurial spirit and along with two partners founded his first company, Netrights.
Netrights was eventually purchased by an Oregon-based company, causing him to uproot and move to Portland, Oregon, for several years before once again settling back in the Northeast Kingdom. Back home in Vermont, he started working with his brother Don on the financial services offerings tied to his mothers business, Pat Hunt Incorporated. Along with his wife, Debra Hardy Hunt, they also started Northeast Kingdom Homecare (NEKHC), a business allowing their elderly clients to stay in their own homes, while still receiving the personalized care and companionship they need. Over time, NEKHC added an adult daycare offering and currently maintains over 60 employees.
In 2010, after 40 long years apart, Mr. Hunt reconnected with his high school sweetheart, Elaine Lockwood. Ms. Lockwood introduced him to the sport of diving and her love of African wildlife. Mr. Hunt shared a love of good food and his rather large family. Together they shared their joys in experiencing the world. He had shared these passions with his sons as they grew up, by taking each of them on travels of their own. He always enjoyed telling the stories of his adventures.
An avid reader, he also enjoyed writing, genealogy, and playing games. He was an amazing chef and loved to share foods inspired by the many places he had traveled. He enjoyed playing the guitar and was a wonderful singer who loved to play for family and friends. His children have fond memories of being sung to sleep.
Passionate about public service and citizens obligations to serve and shape our government and the local community, he had become focused on conservation and environmental issues. He recently created a nonprofit, Vermont Students to Africa, which plans to send six students to Africa to study conservation in 2016.
His parting words to his friends and family were: Work hard, reach farther. Do great things. Ill be watching. Love to you all. Gerry.
Besides the love of his life and childhood sweetheart, Elaine, he leaves a legacy including his sons: Eli and his fiancée, Emily, of Cornish, New Hampshire, Ezra and his partner, Anna, of Portland, Oregon, and Eben and his partner, Katharine, of Canaan, New Hampshire; and his stepchildren: Eliot Brooks and Grace Brooks. He is survived by his mother, Pat Hunt, and her longtime friend, Al Callahan, of Morgan; his brothers: Donald Hunt and his wife, Andrea, of Coventry, and Andy Hunt and his wife, Trish, of Vestal, New York; his uncle the Reverend Stuart Brush and his wife, Laura, of Woodbury, Connecticut; and many nieces and nephews.
Predeceasing him were his father, Paul Hunt; his daughter Erin; and his wife, Debra Hardy Hunt.
The family asks that those who desire to contribute to his legacy donate to the Vermont Students to Africa, 136 Coche Brook Crossing, West Charleston, Vermont 05872.

Rock J. Lamadeleine
....show , 74, a longtime resident of Barton, died peacefully on May 2, 2015, in Newport, on what would have been his mothers birthday. His family feels as though a bright light has vanished from this world.
He was born on July 8, 1940, in Barton, son of Albert and Germaine (Tetreault) Lamadeleine.
He attended St. Pauls Catholic School and worked on the family farm for many years. He learned to cook meals in the farmhouse with his mother. He liked animals, bowling, walking, and seeing his three nieces. He played harmonica with his brothers, Guy and Clement. One of his greatest joys was cooking for family, and listening to his mother, brothers, and sister play music on piano, violin, trumpet, spoons, and concertina. He simply enjoyed sitting with someone and listening while they spoke. He spent most of his life being pleasant to everyone who he came into contact with.
He had a strong faith in God and a sincere, heartwarming, and strong love for people, especially his family and friends. He had a way of seeing the best in people and despite the challenges in his life he always managed to smile, laugh, and persevere and helped others do the same.
He had a great memory with a knack for remembering peoples birthdays and names. He will truly be missed by the many people who knew him. He also enjoyed bowling, walking in the woods, playing cards, and visits from his family.
He is survived by his sister Therese Bonnette and her husband, George, of Barton; his brother Guy Lamadeleine of Barton; his sister-in-law Henriette Lamadeleine of Barton; his three nieces: Anne Gamble and her husband, Rob, of Bangor, Maine, Claire Beck and her husband, Gene, of Anderson, Nevada, and Dorothy Bonnette of Barre; and by his area cousins.
He was predeceased by his sister Marie Anne; and by his brothers: Clement and Bernard.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 9, at St. Pauls Catholic Church in Barton, with the Reverend Timothy Naples celebrating a Mass of Christian burial. Interment will follow in St. Pauls Cemetery in Barton.
Should friends desire, contributions in his memory may be made to St. Pauls Catholic School, 54 Eastern Avenue, Barton, Vermont 05822.
