Edith Jean (Swanekamp) Foley
....show , 80, died on March 16, 2015, in Gastonia, North Carolina.
She was born on November 15, 1934, in Cranford, New Jersey, to Frederick and Edith (Mainhart) Swanekamp. As a child, "Jeanie" loved to be outdoors and enjoyed summer vacations as well as working in many capacities at Camp Skyland on Lake Champlain, South Hero Island in Vermont. She was a graduate of Cranford High School and then attended Averett College in Danville, Virginia, in 1952, where she studied secretarial sciences. Upon graduation, she worked for a period of time at Federated Inc. in Springfield, New Jersey, where she met John Foley in 1956.
She married Mr. Foley on September 7, 1957. They raised eight children in Scotch Plains, New Jersey.
She was active in the community for several years and was a member of the Junior Women's Club, Republicans' Club, and served as the president of the local Little League Association. She also went back to work in a part-time capacity. Then, in 1977, the family moved to Barton, where they owned and operated the Country Corner Store. She worked hard to make the store a success and helped where she could in the local community. In 1979 and 1980, she took a job working for the Northeast Kingdom Community Action in Newport. Later she would accept a job with the state social services of Vermont, where she would embark on a career as a secretary. She would work there until her retirement in 2003. Throughout this time she was a fixture on the Diversion Board for the city of Newport, where she diligently helped many of the youth in the city.
She was an avid gardener and her green thumb transformed many a property. She enjoyed cooking, especially her mother's recipes from childhood, and was known for her clam dip. She was a voracious reader of mysteries and detective novels, and enjoyed puzzles later in life. Her favorite color was yellow, or gold as we referred to it, and she enjoyed incorporating it into her décor. She had also what we liked to call the clean Jean which some of us possess and some don't. She also was an avid sports fan she taught most of her children how to play baseball and appreciate all sports. She was very happy that the Patriots won the Super Bowl.
She loved singing, and fondly reminisced about her own mother's lovely soprano voice.
She was very proud of her German heritage and often had to remind some of her children that we were half German as well!
Our mother was a formidable force when it came to work and family and always led by example, having overcome many adversities in life that affected her health, and other aspects, to which she took pride in overcoming. The very definition of mother was truly written in every sense of the word when describing her. Many called her a saint, queen, friend, colleague, neighbor, and Nana, but we were blessed in having been able to call her our mother.
She leaves behind a large family that will miss her dearly, including her children: Sharon Ader and her husband, Bruce, of Lowell, North Carolina, John J. Foley III of Jeffersonville, Greg Foley of Newport, Jennifer Foley and her husband, Uwe Hartmann, of Nashua, New Hampshire, Maryellen Foley of Jeffersonville, Michael Foley of Penacook, New Hampshire, and Steven Foley and his wife, Jennifer, of South Burlington; a brother, John Bernard Swanekamp, and his wife, Patricia, of Sunset Beach, North Carolina; her sister in-law Yolanda Swanekamp of West Palm Beach, Florida; her sister-in-law Margaret and her husband, Fred Gayder, of Bayville, New Jersey, her brother-in-law Thomas and his wife, Betty Foley, of Apex, North Carolina, her sister-in-law Virginia Giordano of Wrightstown, New Jersey, her brother-in-law Raymond and his wife, Jacklyn Foley, of Spring Lake, New Jersey; and by several nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and -nephews. There are 21 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, John J. Foley Jr., in 2008; a daughter, Laura Jean Foley, in 2012; and by her brother Frederick Swanekamp in 2001.

She was born on March 7, 1921, in Derby to Eugene and Mathilda (Marois) Vigneault. On June 1, 1948, she married Louis A. Fugere, who predeceased her in 1971.
She and her husband purchased the Fox Farm on Shattuck Hill over 60 years ago. In the early years, they raised beef cattle and chickens and any variety of farm animals in which their children were interested. As the good cook and seamstress that she was, Mrs. Fugere inspired her children to learn these basic skills as well. Gardening was one of her favorite past times, and she spent many hours tending both vegetable and flower gardens. She appreciated nature, and in her later years she enjoyed the challenge of trying to capture some of its beauty through artwork. For a number of years she was active in square dancing and enjoyed the new friendships it offered.
She was a bookkeeper for the former Chittenden Bank in Newport for over 30 years. Camaraderie with work colleagues endured throughout the years and she looked forward to her get-togethers with the girls from the bank, which continued regularly until recent months.
During her retirement, she and her sister Zelma operated the Fox Farm as an antique and used furniture business. Together, they enjoyed wintering in Florida for a number of years. In the summer months, they spent time antiquing in Maine and New Hampshire and participating in many antique shows and flea markets throughout northern New England. Among the collections of glassware she appreciated most are the hens and chicks on the nest.
She was a very faith-filled woman and devotion to the church was important to her. She was a devout parishioner of St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church and a member of the Ladies of St. Anne. She was also a loving grandmother, Memere, to three grandchildren who will remember her well for the seemingly bottomless jar of homemade sugar cookies that greeted them upon every visit, and for grilled cheese sandwiches cut in a special way, in little fingers. The grandchildren will also tell you that Memere made the best doughnuts that can be found!
Her generous spirit, her unwavering devotion to her family and her faith, and her ability to live life joyfully will forever be an inspiration to those who loved her.
She is survived by her children: Louise Mathews and her husband, Ed, of Underhill Center, Joanne Fedele and her husband, John, of Newport Center, and Joseph Fugere and his wife, Patricia, of Hyattsville, Maryland; her grandchildren: Alissa Fedele of New Orleans, Louisiana, Genevieve Fugere and her fiancé, Stephen Hulick, of Washington, D.C., and Gavin Fugere also of Washington, D.C.; many nieces and nephews; and by her caregiver and companion, Bonnie Little.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by two sisters: Juliette in infancy, and Zelma Vigneau on February 9, 2011.
Funeral services were held on March 21, in Newport. Spring interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
It is the family's wish that contributions in her memory be made to one of her favorite charities, Doctors Without Borders. Donations may be sent to the attention of Louise Mathews, P.O. Box 114, Underhill Center, Vermont 05490.

Bryce Wilson
....show of Craftsbury died on March 9, 2015, after living a long life of quiet dignity.
It is said that one cannot choose how to die, but one can choose how to live.
Mr. Wilson was born on August 4, 1934. He was a lifelong educator. His career in education spanned almost 40 years. After stops in Derby and Hardwick, he ultimately planted his roots in New Jersey, where he was employed by the Waldwick Board of Education for 34 years. As a guidance counselor, teacher and coach, he touched the lives of countless children. His calming manner will be remembered by all who came in contact with him. His subtle wit and wry sense of humor were his hallmarks.
In 1959, he and his wife, Audrey, moved to New Jersey settling in the picturesque Cupsaw Lake section of Ringwood. They raised four children, and upon retirement the couple returned to the family farm in Craftsbury and opened the Whetstone Brook B&B. Mr. Wilson's wife could often be found in her kitchen telling the guests about her cherished AGA stove. Mr. Wilson would regale the guests with tales of his nine grandchildren, or the town history of Craftsbury, or pretty much anything else. He could converse with people from all walks of life.
Before his illness, he was an avid golfer. He played two or three times a week
and never got better at it. He had a love-hate relationship with the game. Several years ago, his clubs were, shall we say, mercifully liberated from the bed of his truck in the wee hours of the morning. He was quoted as saying, I hope those clubs cause whoever took them as much trouble as they caused me! Anyone who has ever played with him knows that would be pretty tough to do.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 57 years, Audrey; his daughter Lisa Sedore and her husband, Tom, of Craftsbury; his son Terry and his wife, Ginger, of Palmer, Massachusetts; his daughter Karen Starr and her husband, David, of Highland Lakes, New Jersey; his son Jim of Pompton Plains, New Jersey; his grandchildren: Katie and her husband, Nick Meyer, Jessie and her husband, David Upson, Megan and her husband, Jon Amell, Lindsay Sedore, Shannon Wilson, Joseph Starr, Connor Starr, Jonathan Wilson, and Julie Anne Wilson; his great-grandchildren: Madison Amell and Henry Upson; his nephew Ian McMurray; and by his sister Ann Wilson and her husband, Warren Williams.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 21, at the United Church of Craftsbury Common, with the Reverend Alan Parker officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his name to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation, 1359 Broadway, Suite 1509, New York, New York 10018; or to the Greensboro Nursing Home, 47 Maggie's Pond Road, Greensboro, Vermont 05841.
