Shirley was born November 29, 1920 in Springfield, VT to Gladys (Daggett) and Redfield Proctor. After graduating from Springfield High School, she worked for the Springfield Telephone Company before becoming the private secretary for Ernest V. Flanders, President of Jones and Lamson Tool and Die Company.
Shirley married Richard Hurd on November 18, 1944. When Richard left active duty from the Air Force, they bought a home in Plainfield. Richard was called back into service during the Korean War conflict and was stationed in Germany. After six months, he was able to retain housing so Shirley could join him. Very determined to be with her husband, Shirley and her two little boys drove through a blinding rain storm in the middle of New York City, with her car stripped of all outside attachments, including the windshield wipers. Being used to seeing military wives going to the docks, the locals would point out which direction to go and this was her first time at city driving.
Shirley’s doctor told her they would have no more children, but a daughter came along one month after they came back to the states in November of 1952.
Shirley was a stay at home mother, but she volunteered as a Cub/Boy Scouts and 4-H leader and was an active member of her church group, the IHN "In His Name" at the Grace Methodist Church and taught Sunday school. She volunteered as a "Gray Lady" for Barre City Hospital and the Central Vermont Hospital as a TV volunteer. Shirley was an accomplished chef and seamstress, but her biggest devotion was to her five grandchildren, attending their school and sports events, taking them camping and caring for them so lovingly.
In retirement, Shirley and Richard enjoyed traveling around the country with “The Liberandos”, Richard’s veterans association of the 376th Heavy Bombardment Group. They celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary with a trip to Hawaii.
Shirley and Richard lived at their home in Martin Meadows in Plainfield until 2003, when they built a condo in Wildersburg Common, Barre Town. In 2010, they moved to Mayo Manor in Northfield. Shirley lost the love of her life and soul mate, “Dick”, in March 2013.
Shirley is survived by two sons, Richard Hurd Jr. and wife Betty, and Thomas Hurd and wife Gloria; a daughter, Sheryl Hurd Ferris, and husband Leonard; five grandchildren, Shannon Hurd, Tammy DeFreest and husband Theodore, Anthony Hurd, Sara Ferris Howard and husband Nathan, and Marc Ferris and partner Amanda Brown; six great-grandchildren, Cindy, Jackie, Katie and Nicky DeFreest, Anna and Lily Howard; and several nieces and nephews.

BARRE TOWN — Evelyn Virginia (Zombeck) Koch
....show , 96, died peacefully at Berlin Health and Rehab in Berlin on December 23, 2015.
Evelyn was born in Manhattan, NY on January 9, 1919. Her parents were both members of the merchant marine and were frequently at sea, so she was boarded with friends of the family in New Rochelle, NY until she was 6. During this time, she narrowly missed becoming the victim of serial killer Albert Fish; he started to walk her home from school one day but then suggested that they walk down a certain alley that had a bad reputation among the children, so she took off running and was later able to identify him from photos.
Moving back to the upper Bronx with her parents, Evelyn attended elementary school at P. S. 6 and then Evander Childs High School. During her junior year, she and her mother moved to Hackensack, New Jersey. In 1937, she graduated from Hackensack High School, where she met a star pitcher for the baseball team, Elmer Koch. After graduation, she attended Miller Business School in Paterson, NJ, and upon graduation, found employment with the Master Engravers Guild. In June 1940, she began work as secretary to the owner of Lowe Paper Company for the excellent salary (at that time) of $22 a week.
Evelyn and Elmer were married on October 12, 1940 and enjoyed 67 years together until his passing on January 8, 2008. They raised four children in River Edge, NJ and also maintained a vacation home at Green Pond, NJ, where the family spent 15 summers and many weekends. During these years, she was a full-time mother and homemaker and also worked a few hours a week doing secretarial work for the family business, George Koch & Sons Cemetery Memorials. Upon Elmer’s retirement in 1978, they moved to a home they built in East Barre, where she lived until moving to Berlin Health & Rehab two years ago.
Evelyn was a wonderful cook, baker, and seamstress. When the whole family got together for holiday meals, nobody ever brought any food; Evelyn did it all, and all she asked was that everyone would stay out of her kitchen! Her homemade bread was a favorite with many people, and her cookies, cakes, and cream puffs were always a hit. In New Jersey, she led a team every Lent in baking bread for Grace Lutheran Church to sell as a fundraiser. She earned dozens of blue ribbons marked “Excellent” from many years of entries in the Vermont Farm Show, as well as several marked “Best of Show!” Over the years, she made a good many dresses, as well as making many slipcovers for her furniture! After moving to East Barre, Evelyn took up golfing (at age 60) and was responsible for many lost golf balls and an excessive number of divots at the Barre Country Club! She and Elmer enjoyed many nights playing cards with friends, and she was a much better pitch player than a golfer!
In her years in River Edge, Evelyn was engaged in several organizations—the River Edge Republican Club, American Legion Auxiliary, the Grace Guild of Grace Lutheran Church, and the River Edge Recreation Commission--always as secretary. In Barre, she was a member of the Barre Town Republican Committee and the church council of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church.
Evelyn is survived by her four children: Thomas and his wife, Sally, of Barre Town; Lynn Burke, of Montville, NJ; James and his wife, Mary Ann, of Deer River, NY; and William, of Barre. She leaves ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She is also survived by special friends, Jim and Karen Culver, now of Florida. She was pre-deceased by her husband, Elmer; her mother, Laura, and step-father, Louis Brown; and her son-in-law, Charles Burke.
Evelyn once told one of her children, “There are three things I did right in my life: I married your father; I raised you four children; and I moved to Vermont. And I am thankful.”
Friends may call at Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy Street, Barre from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, December 27. A funeral service to give thanks to God for the gift of Evelyn and to celebrate a life well lived will be held at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, 115 Northfield Street, Montpelier, VT on Monday, December 28, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions would be welcomed for Project Independence, which provided wonderful care for Evelyn for several years, 81 No. Main St., Barre, VT 05641, or to Green Mountain Council, BSA, P.O. Box 557, Waterbury, VT 05676, in recognition of the benefits that Boy Scouts provided to all three of Evelyn’s boys in their youth.

Michael (Mike) Mastrianni
....show came to live in Barre in July of 2008. Mike grew up in Glens Falls, New York and spent much of his youth at Lake George, a place so special in his heart. For many years, Mike lived in Granville, N.Y. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from McGill University in Montreal and worked for approximately twenty-years for Shaw Industries. However, a man is not defined by dates and places, but rather by his actions.
In Barre, Mike would most commonly be seen driving his pickup truck with his trusty sidekick, Daisy, the beagle, by his side. They were a team, going to their favorite places, such as Tractor Supply, Aubuchon’s and Nelson’s or just driving for the pleasure of looking at Vermont’s beautiful countryside. Mike loved animals, especially dogs and cats. When he retired from Shaw, as his parting gift, he chose cats from the Central Vermont Humane Society where he had found Daisy.
Mike was an avid reader and took particular pleasure in his volunteer work at the Aldrich Library. He belonged to the First Barre Presbyterian Church and discovered there a supportive and wonderful group of friends who welcomed us warmly into their fold.
One of Mike’s keenest interests was guns and most recently, skeet-shooting. He was not a hunter, but enjoyed competitive shooting. He took such pleasure from participating in his weekly skeet team (No Fly Zone) sessions at the Barre Fish and Game Club. He also enjoyed participating in summer SASS (Single Action Shooting Society) events with his friend, Bernie Lewis, last summer winning the Senior Duelist title.
Mike is survived by his wife, Leslie, his sister, Susan DeFelice and his children Jessica Burger, Nicholas and Michael Mastrianni. Mike treasured his children and was so proud of each of them. He loved spending time with them and was so excited whenever they came to visit.
Finally, Mike was simply a good man. He was quiet, strong, kind, well-mannered and always willing to help anyone who needed it. Even in dying, his first action of recognition of a friend or a nurse was a smile. His gentle, loving presence will be forever missed by those of us who knew and loved him.
Mike would want his love and gratitude to be extended to his friends, to the warm hearts and gentle people of our congregation and to our kind and generous neighbors who have supported us with such care through these difficult weeks.
Mike’s funeral will be hosted by the First Presbyterian Church of Barre on Monday, May 4, 2015 at 11:00 AM, followed by a reception in the church vestry.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Presbyterian of Barre, 19 Seminary Street, Barre, VT, 05641 or the Aldrich Public Library, 6 Washington St., Barre, VT, 05641. The family will make a donation in Mike’s name to the Central Vermont Humane Society.

Born on June 22, 1925, in Barre, Vermont, she was the daughter of the late Tolbert W. Boyd and Alice (MacDonald) Boyd.
Myrtle graduated from Spaulding High School in 1943 and from Dean Junior College in 1945. At Dean, she met Helen “Kay” Flynn Garrett and Ruth “Ruthie” Stearns Beard; they remained close friends for the rest of their lives. After graduating from Dean, she was employed at Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Boston and then in Montpelier.
On June 18, 1949 she married Harrison Lowell McLeod, and their marriage continued until Harrison passed away, four days before their fiftieth wedding anniversary.
Myrtle and Harrison lived their entire married life in Barre, first on Maple Avenue, then on Marcell Avenue, and, finally, in their beloved spot at the top of Delmont Avenue. They taught values of treating everyone with respect while letting us kids be kids. All three homes were central gathering spots for family, neighborhood kids, and holiday celebrations that often included the friends of her children as they became adults.
For the majority of her adult life, Myrtle was a homemaker, devoting her energies to her children, grandchildren, and all aspects of family life, while Harrison spent long hours running the McLeod family business, Lowell McLeod, Inc.
She was also a devoted member of the Presbyterian Church of Barre, serving as an elder, active in its Elwood Club, and baking for and volunteering at the Church’s annual Scottish Tea & Bazaar over many years. Myrtle’s kitchen was full of oatcakes, scones, and pies in the November days leading up to the Scottish Tea.
Myrtle loved annual family trips to the Southern Maine Coast, stays at Linger Longer, the Bohlen family camp on Lake Champlain, and elaborate family picnics at Vermont State Parks, especially Bear Mountain at Allis State Park in Brookfield. She and Harrison also enjoyed travels to Alaska, Hawaii, England, and Spain.
After Harrison sold the family business to Brian and Kevin Bailey – it still operates today under Brian Bailey as McLeod’s Spring and Chassis – and retired, he and Myrtle enjoyed extensive RV camping trips across the U.S. and Canada, often with Ruth Beard and her husband, Elton. They also returned frequently to Maine, hiking the Marginal Way in Ogunquit several times each trip.
Myrtle maintained their home on Delmont Avenue for twelve years after Harrison’s death. She then moved to Residential Care at Westview Meadows at Montpelier, where she spent two happy years and became known as “the walker” because of her steadfast devotion to long hallway walks, despite her failing eyesight.

The family wishes to express their appreciation to the caregivers who became close to Myrtle at both Westview Meadows and Woodridge Nursing Home. Their affection, which extended beyond caregiving duties, will remain in our hearts.

BARRE CITY - Almerida “Tiny” Pirie
....show was born in Barre, Vermont, on November 21, 1928, and passed away peacefully in her sleep on August 11, 2015, at Central Vermont Hospital. She was the daughter of Jose and Almerida (Lastra) Perez, immigrants from Spain who arrived in the United States through Ellis Island in the early 1900s. For the last year, Tiny was a resident at the Brookside Nursing Home in White River Junction, VT, and most recently at Rowan Court Health and Rehab in Berlin, VT.
Tiny married Robert Pirie on September 8, 1947, in the First Universalist Church in Barre, VT. They lived in the same house on Hill Street in Barre for over 60 years, where they were surrounded by great neighbors. Bob passed away on March 8, 2015.
Tiny leaves their children: Jo Ellen Pirie of Hampton Beach, NH; Robert Pirie, Jr. and his wife, Theresa Ouellette-Pirie, of Castleton, VT; Catherine Pirie Merrill and her husband, Scott, of Cape Coral, FL; and Christine Pirie Martuscello and her husband, Bill, of Westerly, RI. Tiny adored her grandchildren, Sarah Churchill and her husband, Chris Gokey, Christopher and Amanda Grearson, Danielle Pirie, Cristin and Cayla Merrill, and Maria and Amelia Martuscello; and great-granddaughters, McKenna and Addison Gokey. Tiny is survived by her brother Joseph Perez and his wife, Doris, of Graniteville, VT, sisters Regina “Lola” Perez of Barre, VT, and Esperanza “Titi” Ozanne of Virginia. She also is survived by her brother-in-law and his wife, the Rev. James G. and Lucille Pirie of Durham, NH, and her sister-in-law, Ellen Pirie Robbins, of Barre Town, VT, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, brother Louis Perez, and sisters Tomasa Remele and Carmen Lopez, sisters-in-law Ruth Pirie, Albina “Bina” Perez, brothers-in-law Elliott “Junior” Pirie and Robert Robbins.
Tiny’s father, Jose, worked in the Barre granite sheds and was one of the sculptors who created the Youth Triumphant monument located at the Barre City Park. Jose was one of many granite workers who contracted the lung disease silicosis due to poor ventilation in the sheds. Tiny was seven years old when he died, leaving behind his widow and seven young children. Tiny grew up one of the rough-and-tumble North End kids and would share stories of hardship, pranks, and life-long friendships made in her youth. She spoke only Spanish at home and learned English by immersion when she entered North Barre Graded School. She continued to speak Spanish to her mother and siblings as an adult, especially when she didn’t want little ears to know what she was saying.
Tiny graduated from Spaulding High School with the class of 1946 as one of the fastest typists and stenographers in her class. A friend in her high school yearbook fittingly tagged her as a “spitfire.” Upon graduation from high school, Tiny worked as a secretary for Montgomery Ward and later at the former Capacitor Plant in Barre, where she was well-known for her organizational skills and meticulous record-keeping.
Tiny took great pride in her home and family, and enjoyed nothing more than to prepare large holiday meals and be surrounded by her ever-growing family. She loved to bake and her family and neighbors were often the recipients of her wonderful creations. Friends of her children fondly recall her ever-present chocolate chip cookies.
Keenly interested in local politics, Tiny was known for her tenacity once she took on a cause. She was instrumental in banning dogs from the City’s cemeteries and kept the Elmwood Cemetery commissioners up-to-date on the condition of the American flags that indicated fallen soldiers. She was steadfast in her beliefs and vocal about them.
Tiny thoroughly enjoyed singing and had a beautiful soprano voice, which she shared with the Universalist Church Choir, the Barre Choraleers, and at the annual Vermont Philharmonic holiday concerts as a member of the Messiah Chorus. She would often sing along with records of Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, and various show tunes while doing housework. You would never know she could not read music.

BARRE CITY - Robert “Bob” Pirie
....show , was born in Barre City, Vermont, on February 9, 1925, and passed away in Williamstown, Vermont, on Sunday, March 8, 2015, at the age of 90. He was the son of Elliott and Etta (MacInnes) Pirie. For the past year, Bob made his home at The Gardens in Williamstown, Vermont. Previously he and his wife, Tiny, had lived in the same house on Hill Street in Barre for over 60 years, where they were surrounded by great neighbors.
Bob leaves his wife, Almerida “Tiny” (Perez) Pirie, whom he married on September 8, 1947, in the First Universalist Church in Barre. Tiny is a resident of the Brookside Nursing Home in White River Junction, VT. Bob was a devoted and loving father to their children: Jo Ellen Pirie of Hampton Beach, NH; Robert Pirie, Jr. and his wife, Theresa Ouellette, of Castleton, VT; Catherine Pirie Merrill and her husband, Scott, of Colchester, VT; and Christine Pirie Martuscello and her husband, Bill, of Westerly, RI. Bob will be missed by his adoring grandchildren, Sarah Churchill and her husband, Chris Gokey, Christopher and Amanda Grearson, Danielle Pirie, Cristin and Cayla Merrill, and Maria and Amelia Martuscello; and great-granddaughters McKenna and Addison Gokey. Bob is survived by his brother and sister-in-law the Rev. James G. and Lucille Pirie of Durham, NH, and his sister Ellen Pirie Robbins of Barre Town, VT. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Joe Perez and his wife Doris, sisters-in-law Regina “Lola” Perez and Esperanza “Titi” Ozanne, many cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, brother Elliott “Junior,” brothers-in-law, Robert Robbins and Louis Perez, and sisters-in-law Ruth Pirie, Tomasa Remele, Carmen Lopez, and Albina “Bina” Perez.
Bob attended elementary school in Graniteville, until his father’s drowning at age 38 in the Hurricane of 1938, when his family moved to Barre. Bob acknowledged this tragedy was a defining moment in his life, when, at the age of 13, he went from a happy-go-lucky kid riding his pony, Silver, in the country, to a more serious and shy student in “the City.” Bob and his older (by 1 ½ years) brother, Junior, now had the responsibilities of being the “men” of the household for their mother, younger brother Jamie, and six-month-old sister, Ellen. Bob was drafted when he turned 18 in February, but was permitted to complete his high school education. Bob graduated from Spaulding High School with the class of 1943, and two weeks later was on his way to basic training. Bob was allowed to choose which branch of the service he preferred; he chose the U.S. Navy following in the footsteps of his father, and served aboard the U.S.S. Ronquil submarine as a torpedoman’s mate second class from July 3, 1943, until December 13, 1945. He participated in five war patrols in the South Pacific, and was the recipient of the WW II Victory Medal, American Theatre Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Medal, and Commendation Ribbon. He was recognized for his service and presented with the Vermont Distinguished Service Medal at a State House ceremony in 2008. At a recent Ronquil reunion, Bob received a standing ovation for his heroics defending the submarine from attack while manning a machinegun top-side, at the age of 18. He was one of the few surviving “plank owners” of the Ronquil, and was a true example of the Greatest Generation.
After honorable discharge from the Navy, Bob worked for the family quarry business as a machinist. The family’s J.K. Pirie quarry in Graniteville was purchased in the 1950s and became known as the Pirie Division of the Rock of Ages Corporation. Bob would often surprise his kids after work with treasures hidden in his lunch pail that could be anything from a prized ball bearing for playing marbles, to a dead dragonfly he found for us to study. Bob worked at the quarry for 38 years, never missing one day of work, and retired in 1988.
Bob had a lifelong interest in genealogy, long before it was popular, and traced his Pirie/MacInnes ancestors to the 1400s without the use of a computer. He had an astounding memory and enjoyed reminiscing about the past so those who went before would not be forgotten. He was extremely proud of his Scottish heritage, and enjoyed listening to Celtic music. A highlight of his life was traveling for two weeks in Scotland at the age of 70 with his daughters Christine and Cathy.
Bob instilled in his children a respect for nature and all things wild during adventures at the family’s camp at Kettle Pond in Groton State Forest. It was at the “Pirie’s Moonlight Camp” that Bob and his deer hunting buddies would spend hours in the woods and even more hours playing cards. Those same woods provided many hours of cross-country skiing pleasure for Bob and his good friend of 70 years, Charlie Moran. Bob and Charlie would make their own trails and enjoy the beauty of the woods until both men were in their 80s. Bob could play the fiddle and harmonica and would entertain his family and friends, but only if asked. He was an avid reader and long-time patron of the Aldrich Public Library in Barre.
As a resident of The Gardens in Williamstown, Bob met many new friends and enjoyed many new activities. Before living in Williamstown, Bob could be seen daily with his Scottish walking stick and kneesocks with tassels traversing the many hills of Barre, often completing a six-mile trek to be home by 7:00 a.m. He continued his daily walks in the Village of Williamstown, but lamented he could now only walk one mile with his walker. He took his daily walks until the snows came in November, 2014. Bob led a long, good life and was an eternal optimist no matter what hardships came his way.
Bob’s family would like to thank the compassionate staff and fellow residents of The Gardens for their care, kindness, and friendship during the last year of his life. We also wish to extend thanks to the staff of the Central Vermont Office on Aging for their much-needed guidance, and to Central Vermont Home Health & Hospice for the care and support provided to Bob and his family.
A graveside service with military honors will be held at the Elmwood Cemetery in Barre City at the convenience of his family. There are no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Aldrich Public Library, 6 Washington Street, Barre, VT 05641, or Central Vermont Home Health & Hospice, 600 Granger Road, Barre, VT 05641.
A celebration of Bob’s life will take place at The Gardens in Williamstown on Friday, March 13, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. Those wishing to share a memory of Bob are invited to gather with his family at this time.
The Hooker & Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy Street in Barre is assisting the Pirie family with the arrangements.

WILLIAMSTOWN - Alan (Rick) Richardson
....show , 60, of 780 Flint Road, Williamstown, Vermont passed away on August 25, 2015 from complications of stomach cancer at his home. His devoted wife, Renee, and loving daughter, Katie, were at his bedside.
Born in Montpelier on May 26, 1955, Rick was one of nine children born to Harold A. and Margaret (Kellett) Richardson. The family moved from Montpelier to Barre in 1957.
While attending St. Monica Catholic School and Spaulding High School, Rick made many lifelong friends. They knew him as Rugged Rick as they shared numerous childhood and adult adventures. At the age of 18, he and one such friend headed out on a cross-country tour with the ultimate goal of seeing Evel Knievel jump the Snake River Canyon near Shoshone Falls, Idaho. Rick loved to share stories of his trip with his daughter Katie, who was enthralled by his exciting tales. Later, while on a road trip from Boise, Idaho to Phoenix, Arizona with his wife Renee, he made a side trip to revisit Shoshone Falls.
Rick worked as a carpenter for multiple employers in the greater Central Vermont area for many years; he perfected his craft primarily in the Waitsfield Valley. He used these skills to upgrade and renovate his home over the years, and took great pride in maintaining his property, keeping a well-manicured lawn, and ensuring that his tools were clean and in good repair. He got his CDL in 2004 and delivered fuel oil for Suburban Energy Services from 2004 until 2012. He was employed by Commercial Door Company in Williamstown, until he left in January 2015 due to ill health.
Rugged Rick appreciated all things outdoors. He was a sportsman who was in his element in the high country. He took pleasure in hunting, fishing, hiking with his dog, Lily, riding his snow-machine or motorcycle, kayaking and boating. He was a familiar sight at Barre Fish and Game Club’s Wednesday night skeet shoots. And he was pretty accurate with his aim.
Rick married his love and life-partner Renee Webster of Washington, VT on January 22, 1988. The love of his life, however, was their daughter Kathleen (Katie.) They were two peas in a pod. Early on, Rick instilled in Katie his love of and taste in music, especially the Rolling Stones, Allman Brothers, and Lynyrd Skynyrd. He kept a large collection of vinyl albums and CDs. Rick cranked the surround-sound stereo whenever the mood struck (which was often). He quizzed Katie on the music as it played and was proud of her knowledge of classic rock. He seldom missed any event involving his daughter and watched proudly as she played sports or participated in school plays. He was a devoted and generous father that she loved deeply.
Rick was as generous and giving to his siblings and friends as he was to Katie and Renee. He was always willing to lend a hand, help with a home-upkeep project, or host a Christmas or lawn-party. For years, he and his brother, Mike, co-owned a rustic camp in Averill where all were welcome to enjoy four-season fun. He relished time spent in Northern Maine at sporting camps operated by his brother, John, and sister-in-law, Regina. Rick enjoyed a weekend reunion camping in Groton earlier this summer with sisters, Mary Lou, Shonnie, and Dianne, and brothers, Jim, Mike, and Pete, along with brother-in-law, Jim DeVries, and a host of nieces and nephews. He was a man of few words, but his actions proved how much he loved and cared for those closest to him time and time again. During his recent hospitalization, his family, siblings and friends reciprocated in kind as they kept vigil by his bedside.
Rick was diagnosed with terminal stomach cancer in January 2015. Despite the rigors of traveling to Boston and Dartmouth for chemotherapy, he showed tremendous strength and courage throughout his illness. He stayed active and engaged and kept himself busy with various projects throughout the past several months. As his health declined, his family ensured that he was able to come home as he wished.
Rick was predeceased by his parents, Harold and Margaret; sister Judy (Richardson) DeVries; sister-in law Patricia Richardson; father-in-law Reginald Webster; and brother-in-law Ross Kindestin.
He is survived by his steadfast and devoted wife Renee; dear daughter Katie; and loving siblings: James Richardson of St. Albans VT; Virginia (Shonnie) Foran of Barre; John Richardson (Regina Webster) of Clayton Lake ME; Mary Lou Richardson of Barre; Dianne Richardson of Montpelier; Michael Richardson (Gen Hagopian) of Williamstown; and Peter Richardson (Stephanie) of Barre Town. He is also survived by mother-in-law Audrey Webster; siblings-in-law Jim DeVries; Jacquelyn Kindestin; Ernie Webster (Trudy); Danele Bedard; Denise Webster; Melissa Marden (Steve); Michele Snyder (Bill); many nieces, nephews, cousins and lifelong friends; and of course, Lily - his beloved dog, companion and walking partner.
At Rick’s request, there will be no calling hours or services. Renee and Katie invite family, friends and colleagues to join them at their home at 780 Flint Road in Williamstown on September 12th, 2015 beginning at 1 pm. There will be a croquet game, Rock n’ Roll, and stories and memories of Rugged Rick.
Though uncommon in the United States, stomach cancer is the second-most deadly form of cancer in the world. The disease receives much less research and funding than other more common cancers, and is seldom detected until it has reached an incurable stage. Donations can be made in Rick’s memory online to the Gastric Cancer Research Foundation.
