Rena Lucienne (Chainey) Robinson
....show , of Calais died peacefully in the early morning hours of June 4, 2014, in her home, surrounded by family, after a courageous two-and-a-half-year battle with cancer.
She was born on August 25, 1937, daughter of the late Lucien and Marie Chainey and was born and raised on a dairy farm in Morgan. After graduating from Sacred Heart High School in Newport, she made her way to Montpelier where she met and married Vaile Robinson on June 6, 1959.
She raised her six children in the home she and her husband bought in Calais. She was an avid gardener, cook, baker, and an all-around great homemaker. She was also a mother to many various and sundry stray animals.
When her children were all finally in school, she went to work at the Department of Motor Vehicles for many years, and then in her retirement years, she worked at Morse Farm, where she thoroughly enjoyed meeting and chatting with visitors from all over the world.
Her memorial bench reads, She laid hold on the word. And she did. She had the spiritual support of very dear friends, Marilyn Wemitt, Betty and the late Bill Boisvert, and Sandy and the late Gene Raymond. Throughout her illness, she never complained once about anything and her faith never faltered.
After her husband died in 1997, she embraced life and fulfilled some of the dreams that she and her husband shared. Alone and knowing no one, she boarded a Christian cruise ship in Boston, Massachuetts, and sailed to Novia Scotia then down the St. Lawrence Seaway to Montreal, Quebec. On the cruise ship, she made many friends with whom she continued to cruise over the years to such places as Alaska and the Caribbean. She really loved these cruises and making new friends.
Many passersby stop to admire her lush flower gardens, her many hummingbird feeders alive with the buzz, and the seas of Forget-Me-Nots we will continue to mow around.
She is survived by six children: Kim Robinson of Oakland, California, Tim Robinson of Townsend, Kathy Robinson of East Barre, Tom Robinson of Marshfield, Kelly Robinson of Greensboro, and Karlyn Proulx of Calais. She was blessed with 13 grandchildren.
She would appreciate that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made directly to Central Vermont Home Health and Hospice, 600 Granger Road, Barre, Vermont 05641; or to the Mitzvah Fund at Worcester Veterinary Care, 10 Elmore Road, Worcester, Vermont 05682.

Educated in the Craftsbury schools, he graduated from Craftsbury Academy in 1943. He farmed for four years and then went to the University of Vermont, where he graduated in 1952, after taking a year off.
He taught an exploratory course in agriculture at Craftsbury for a year and farmed with his brother Burton until 1960. He then began teaching math and science in the Greensboro school. For a farmer to become a teacher required many summers of additional education. He then taught in Craftsbury where he established an industrial arts program and was instrumental in establishing the CAPE program of physical education. He finished out teaching his 15 years at Lamoille Union High School. Later, he taught part time for 15 years at Sterling College as a woodworking teacher.
In 1950, he married Ruth Esser. They had five children and enjoyed traveling and canoeing in the summers.
In 1964, he established Strongs Canoe Yard, a shop that repaired, restored, and built cedar canvas canoes. The shop started with fiberglass canoes, but soon saw the light and made over 125 cedar canvas canoes. The shop also taught canoe building, offering more than 25 classes.
In 1986, he married Shirley Bruns of Latimer, Iowa. They worked together in the canoe shop, and teaching classes until Mr. Strongs retirement in 1998. They traveled winters throughout the United States, finally wintering in Uvalde, Texas, in 1997, where they continued to live in their recreational vehicle during the winter months.
He leaves his wife Shirley of Craftsbury Common; his daughter Nancy West and her husband, Jim, of Craftsbury; his son Nathan Strong and his wife, Vicky, of Albany; his son Russell Strong of Craftsbury; his daughter Lynn Calderwood and her husband, Ricky, of Highgate; his son Matthew Strong and his wife, Patty, of Stowe; his stepsons: Steven Bruns and his wife, Karen; Mark Bruns and his wife, Debbie, of Iowa; his stepdaughter Dee Ann Arlow and her husband, Steven, of Alaska; his brother Burton and his wife, Irene, of Craftsbury; his sisters-in-law: Patty Rodemyer and her husband, Marvin, and LaDona Roelfs and her husband, Keith, of Iowa; his sister-in-law Jackie Campbell and her husband, Keith, of Alaska; and by his six grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren, one great-grandson, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Logan Allan Cookson
....show , of Cabot died on May 24, 2014.
He was born on May 11, 2004, in Berlin, the youngest child of Scott and Tammy Cookson of Cabot. He formerly resided in East Barre and attended Central Vermont Catholic School. The last two years, he attended Cabot School.
Logan touched many people in some small way throughout his short yet memorable life. His life would seem too short to many, but those who were touched by him understand that the quality of existence far exceeds the quantity of time in which one lives.
He was a country boy at heart. He loved everything from exploring the woods, to hunting, camping, mowing the lawn, and stacking wood with his Dad. He always looked for something to fix or take apart. He also enjoyed playing basketball, soccer, hockey, and chess. Since moving to Cabot, he enjoyed guiding his mom through the woods, showing and teaching her the wonders of nature. Logan and his brother, Brock, mentor and best friend, were inseparable. They enjoyed animals, farming, and playing outside. He spent many hours on the floor playing with his Army men and wrestling figures. Logan also loved to talk on the phone. He had a passion for party planning. He would often make calls to family and friends to arrange get-togethers. Logan was especially proud of his greatest accomplishment, passing the hunter safety course.
Family members that live on to honor and remember Logans life include his parents, Scott and Tammy Cookson; his best friend and brother, Brock Brockie; his brother Shayne of Burlington; his sister Shantal Cookson of Barre; his maternal grandparents, Kenneth Allan Adams and Jacqueline Bissonnette Adams of Berlin; his paternal grandmother Connie Martin Murray of Waterbury; and his great-grandmother, Elva Martin of Waterbury. Aunts and uncles include Maureen Adams and her companion, Ron Lackey, of Stowe, Jody and Jaime Fewer of Barre Town, Andrew and Karen Adams of Cabot, Nancy McLaney of Crestview, Florida, John Cookson and his companion, Shannon Buziak, of Cabot, Dan Cookson of Waterbury, Tammy and Kevin Johnson of East Calais, Dawn Cookson of New Hampshire, and Angela and Gary Ward of Cabot; a nephew, Trenton Cookson, of Plainfield; and his cousins include Spencer, Camryn, Julia, and Seth Fewer of Barre Town, Karissa, Lindsay, and Kaden of Crestview, Courtney Cookson, Christopher, and Kyle Johnson of East Calais, and Garan Ward of Cabot.
He was predeceased by his paternal grandfather, John Cookson. He also left behind his pets, three chickens and a bunny.
With Logans death, we remind others that his life is one to be celebrated. Although we will miss him every day, he will forever remain in our hearts. In his short ten years, we were able to create many wonderful memories and it has been a privilege and a blessing from God to be his parents.
A Mass of celebration in honor of Logans life was held on May 31, at Saint Monica Catholic Church in Barre.
Those who wish to make donations in Logans memory may contribute to the Cabot School, Main Street, Cabot, Vermont 05647; or to the Central Vermont Catholic School, 79 Summer Street, Barre, Vermont 05641; or to the Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department, 1 National Life Drive, Davis 2, Montpelier, Vermont 05620-3702.
