Dad was a family man in the truest sense. He was happiest when he was with his children and grandchildren. He was there for any event , big or small, “I wouldn’t miss it” is what he would say and he didn’t.
Dad is our hero. Gramps is our hero. Our greatest blessing is that God gave him to us to be our Dad and Grandfather. Our greatest gift from Dad is the legacy of how he lived his life, that we would all do the same. In our sorrow, we find the joy of being so loved by him.

Robert K. Decker
....show (AKA K.O.E.), 72 of Westmore, beloved husband of Beverly Decker, passed peacefully surrounded by love and light on Valentine’s Day. Their love was a star-matched, forever love that transcends time and space. Together, they experienced two centuries of living in four decades of marriage.
He was a Grand Master to many, friend to more, and uncle to few. He empowered, inspired and more importantly loved every one of his family and honorary family members. He shared pieces of wisdom such as: “No matter what in life, always support your spouse and loved ones. Never be the person to hold the other one back. If there is something they want to do and love to do, support them every step of the way.” That is what Bob and Beverly gave to each other and was the pulse to what has been repeatedly called their “storybook marriage”.
Bob’s friendship was like a diamond – many faceted, dynamically passioned and precious. If you were an old friend, he greeted you with an infectious smile and spread out arms like you were the most important person on the planet. If you were a new friend, he greeted you like an old friend. He lived by the code, “Life is Good” and he shared that vibe with everyone he met and spent time with. Bonfires, music, watching meteor showers in a forest clearing, the roar of his Harley, kayaking with others, evenings of his marvelously cooked meals and fishing with his buddies – he embraced friends as he embraced life.
Bob’s life was as diverse as it was beautiful. His focus found meaning in his creativity, expressed through the activities of Tae Kwon Do, music, painting, carpentry, photography, gardening among many other pursuits. Bob was a true Renaissance man.
Music has been a thread throughout Bob’s life from childhood on. He and his brother Don and sister Judy spent many hours playing instruments and harmonizing like the Everly Brothers. It was a special connection. He played music in high school and ended up forming bands called “The Bolts and later “Creative Image”. As “Creative Image”, Bob and band found fame when they signed a contract with RCA and even released a record. Bob moved on to different and wonderful pursuits for many years until friend and past band member Randy Fisher visited in 2009 and pushed him to start composing and playing music again. Within only a few years 4 out of 5 of “The Bolts” members reunited and played in the NEK. Shortly after, Randy Fisher, Richard Wagner and Bob formed “The Union” and cut a CD “Passing Through”.
Bob was an award-winning and published photographer as well. Beverly gave him his first camera for Christmas in 1973. It took about 2 years before he began avidly using it and then a new business was eventually born in 1980. His work appeared on magazine covers and advertisements and hangs framed in many people’s homes. Eventually he took his love of imagery to painting. Again, he was self taught and created “High Point Gallery”, selling and showing his work. People also commissioned his work.
Bob and Beverly’s home is their canvas as well. They literally cut the trees, mixed the cement, planted, designed and grew the property that would become a sacred place for both of them to express themselves and feel safe and joyful. His interest in the garden grew in later years and became another passion and true labor of love. Their home has been described as looking like something out of Lord of the Rings. Visitors feel transported in the beauty of the home and gardens – some have even chosen to marry there.
Bob said there were several constants in his life and one was Tae Kwon Do. His school, Blue Wave International, is the longest running Tae Kwon Do school in Vermont and still exists today under former student, Christina Deslandes. He worked on a national and international level in the field, even traveling to Korea. Bob reached the level of 8th Degree Black Belt and Grand Master, working with hundreds of students over about 40 years. Students share that he had the ability to transform a simple martial arts principle into a life lesson. He was much more than a highly skilled practitioner. He was a remarkable teacher whose passion radiated the moment he entered a room.
Grand Master Decker was never afraid to speak up for what he believed in, insisted on fairness and keeping alive the traditions of his beloved art. His integrity was unshakable, and he demanded the same of his students and close associates. His friends in Tae Kwon Do and beyond are too numerous to count, and his legacy will live on forever.
Bob was writing this song, just days before his “journey” began:
BOB’S SONG
Stay…stay with me tonight
The world may crumble before the light
Stay…let our world slip away
So many times in my life I turn my eyes
To the right
Looking out to the horizon
Wishing I could fly…
There’re so many places I haven’t been
So many people to see in my life
I need to see again
Breathe the air fresh and clean
Feel the rain fall down upon you from the sky
Hear the river flowing by…
Feel everything that’s good within your life
Hear your heart beat…feel the love…flowing
Through your body…from Heaven above
Here comes the sunshine…here comes the sunshine…here comes the sunshine
Shining upon your face, with light and grace.
Over the past months, Bob became a regular volunteer at the Pope Memorial Frontier Animal Society’s spay/neuter clinics, spending hours helping cats gently come out of anesthesia after surgery. He has been a life-long animal advocate. In view of this, family and friends could honor Bob by sending donations to the Pope Memorial Frontier Animal Society, 4473 Barton/Orleans Road, Orleans, Vermont 05860.
Bob’s presence will be missed by the following family members: Don Decker and his son Brian and wife Jill, and daughter Allison Watkins and husband Todd and their children; Judy and Tom Schwaber and their son Kurt, Mark and his fiancé Ada; Roy and Claire Perkins; Penny and Kimball Johnson and daughter Chelsea Cummings and her husband Dan; David Perkins and son Samuel; Kathy and Larry Joseph and their son Ryan and his significant other Kacie, their daughter Jessica Douglas and her husband Jimmy and their beautiful new baby, Gavin.
