....show, 68, of Hill Road, died unexpectedly at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, Lebanon, NH on Wednesday, July 23, 2014. Diane was born in Attleboro, MA on July 21, 1946, a daughter of Roger and Dorothy (Lennox) Racicot. She was a graduate of Attleboro High School and attended business school. She married David Filipek on February 5, 1972. During her working career, she worked in purchasing for HR Harrington in Gardner, MA. She also served as the bookkeeper for her husband s furniture business. After moving to Bath, she assisted folks as a personal care aide. Along with her husband, Diane moved from New Ipswich, NH to Bath in 2001. In her free time, she enjoyed handiwork, knitting, and crafts and she dabbled in painting. She was a communicant at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Woodsville, NH. Diane treasured the moments she spent in prayer and praying for people. She has been described as a victim soul a person who takes the pain and suffering from others and as an intersessor for the sick. Diane was brought to Bath and its greater area on a mission by the Lord to pray for its people. Diane is survived by her husband of 42 years, David Filipek of Bath; two sisters, Paula Rocha and husband James, Jr. of Attleboro and Cynthia Rocha and husband Louis of Swansea, MA; a niece, Aimee Rocha and two nephews, Jeffrey Rocha and Collin Rocha. There will be a calling hour on Friday, August 1 from 9:30-10:30 AM at Ricker Funeral Home, 1 Birch Street, Woodsville, NH with a Mass to follow at 11 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 15 Pine Street, Woodsville. Ludlow, VT - Robert Washburn Jennings
....show, 91, formerly of Old County Road in Groton, VT, died unexpectedly at Springfield Hospital, Springfield, VT on Thursday, July 24, 2014. Bob was born on March 22, 1923, in Boston, MA, a son of Laurence Williston and Louise (Rodman) Jennings. He attended both Norwich and Boston Universities. Bob was a Second Lieutenant and Navigator in the US Army Air Corps and flew eight missions over Europe during World War II. Following his discharge, he worked for WGAN Broadcasting in Portland, ME and then for the Portland Press Herald from 1949 through 1969. On October 24, 1970, he married Virginia Main. Together, they moved to Groton in 1983. Bob was a member of the Groton United Methodist Church where he played the piano and organ for many years. He was a member of the North Country Chorus and played piano for the local band, Sweet Jamm. In his spare time, he enjoyed playing contract bridge and golf. He was predeceased by two brothers, W. Rodman Rod Jennings and Howard L. Jennings. He is survived by his wife of nearly 44 years, Virginia Jennings of Ludlow; a daughter, Beverly Kosak of Lakeville, CT; four step children, Bethia Bosco and husband John of Coventry, CT, Emily Manchester of Charlestown, NH, Dana Manchester and wife Maria of Charlotte, NC, and Carson Manchester, Jr. and wife Marion of Vero Beach, FL; three grandchildren, Frederick Kosak, Louis Kosak, and Alice Kosak Boucher; eight step grandchildren and several step great grandchildren; along with several nieces and nephews. There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be on Saturday, September 6th, 2014 at 2 PM in the Groton, VT United Methodist Church with Pastor Candace Ricker officiating. Barnet, VT - Martha Kuehn Roos
....show, 67, of Barnet, VT, died on Saturday, July 26, 2014 at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH, after fighting a courageous battle with cancer. Martha was born on February 16, 1947 in St. Louis, MO, a daughter of Raymond A. and Grace (Venn) Kuehn. She married Robert W. Roos, Jr. on April 4, 1970. Martha worked for many years as an independent Certified Public Accountant and later for the IRS. After retiring to Vermont her focus was on enjoying her grandchildren, who were undoubtedly the highlight of her life. She loved flowers, family dinners and feeding the birds. Martha had many hobbies including stamp collecting, cross-stitch, crochet, and genealogy. Martha had an optimistic, cheerful outlook on life which will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Robert W. Roos of Barnet; three children, Bryan W. Roos of Bastrop, TX, Julie A. Roos and husband David B. Hyde of Barnet, and David M. Roos and wife Jodi A.Roos of Danville, VT; four grandchildren, Noah and Austin Roos, Trillian and Earnest Hyde; a sister, Marilyn R. Mayer of St. Louis; an aunt, Ruth V. Busch of St. Louis; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. ....show, 72, a long time resident of the Grafton County Nursing Home, died there on Sunday, July 27, 2014, comforted by the care of his family. Ray was born in Trafford, PA, on August 11, 1941, to Ralph Vinton and Eva (Lewis) Hysong. Ray moved from Leesburg, FL to North Haverhill in 1986. He was a member of the Trinity Church of the Nazarene in North Haverhill. He loved his Lord and attending his church. He enjoyed gospel music, a good joke and laugh with his friends, and regular meals. Ray was predeceased by his two brothers, Rev. Wayne Hysong and Rev. Ralph Hysong. He is survived by two sisters-in-law, Muriel Hysong of Tavares, FL and Mary Elizabeth Betty Hysong of North Haverhill; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She graduated from Orford High School. On May 21, 1955, she married Ronald Carle. Jane ran the Coach and Paddock Restaurant for over twenty years, from the mid 1970 s through the mid 1990 s. Jane loved cooking and is well known for her specialty, macaroni and cheese. She enjoyed flower gardening, birds, and sports of all kinds. As an avid Celtics fan, Larry Bird was her favorite. Jane was predeceased by her husband Ronald Carle on January 18, 1992; her son Sherman Carle on November 14, 2011; a daughter Cathy Carle Impey on June 11, 1988; a daughter-in-law Lorna Priswalko on March 25, 2014; along with two brothers, Lewis and David Smith. ....show, 84 of Plains Road, died at her home on Friday, August 8, 2014. Marge was born in Groton, VT on May 26, 1930, the daughter of Sewell and Alice (Smith) Page. She was a graduate of McIndoe Falls Academy, Class of 1948. On October 20, 1950, she married Guy Howard Butch Burrill. Marge worked part time at the former Monroe Clinic. She was a long time communicant of St. Joseph s Catholic Church, Woodsville, NH and had been the President of the Monroe PTF. In her spare time she did ceramics, but she especially liked quilting. She loved her 7 Sons and her grandchildren and traveled everywhere they went to participate in sporting events. Along with Butch, she enjoyed summer camping in the Groton State Forest, traveling in the western United States visiting National Parks and their special fiftieth anniversary cruise to Alaska. They enjoyed snowmobiling and were members of the Monroe Bumper Humpers. Marge was predeceased by her husband of 61 years, Guy Butch Burrill on November 20, 2011 and by her two brothers, Ronald A. Page on August 12, 1992 and Russell B. Page on January 21, 2014. She is survived by their 7 sons, Bob Burrill of Gorham, NH, Steve Burrill of Monroe, Ken Burrill and wife April of Justin, TX, Scott Burrill and wife Karen of Somersworth, NH, John Burrill of Derry, NH, Mark Burrill and wife, Karen of Monroe, and Rodney Burrill and wife Jane of Albany, NH; twelve grandchildren and one great grandson and one great granddaughter; and nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was born in Rumney, NH, June 14, 1926, a daughter of Frank R. and Freida (Greeley) Hall, Sr. and had worked as a child care provider and secretary. Barbara is predeceased by her parents and two brothers Lewis C. Hall, Sr.on April 25, 2010, and Frank R. Hall, Jr., on March 29, 2013. Survivors include two nephews, Leonard Hall of Enfield, NH and Larry Hall of Essex, Vt., niece Linda Hall and sister-in-law June Hall of Littleton, NH and first cousins Charles Hall of West Rumney and Tina Thomsom of Hartford, Ct. Barbara enjoyed watching stock car racing in West Rumney and various area tracks. Barbara also enjoyed playing many forms of card games with family members. Prior to going to GCNH, she spent many years with her beloved cat Shadow. In keeping with Barbara s wishes there will be no calling hours or public service held. ....show, 38, of North Littleton Road, died unexpectedly on Sunday, August 17, 2014. Rob was born on April 28, 1976, in Littleton, to Robert Wayne and Jeannette (Livingston) Boutin. He was a graduate of Lisbon Regional School, Class of 1994, and attended Champlain College. Rob worked as the area manager for SJP Trucking, a contractor for FedEx, for over ten years. Rob served as an Infantryman in the NH National Guard and had been called to active duty where he served in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from January 5, 2004 through March 25, 2005. He received the Army Service Ribbon, Humanitary Service Medal, Combat Action Badge, Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Medal, Army Reserve Overseas Training Ribbon, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with M Device, New Hampshire National Guard State Active Duty Ribbon, and the Meritorious Unit Citation. Rob enjoyed hunting, golfing, camping and kayaking. He was an avid fan and supporter of the Boston Red Sox, as well as the Patriots, Bruins and Celtics. Rob is survived by three children, Quentin A. Boutin and Sydney L. Boutin of Conway, NH and Haile L. Boutin of Woodsville, NH; his parents, Robert and Jeannette of Bath, NH; his maternal grandmother, Betty Livingston of Lisbon, NH; his paternal grandmother, Verginia Boutin Brooks and husband Russell of Lisbon; his sister, Korin M. He was born in Newbury, July 23, 1931 a son of Harold E. and Katherine M. (White) Emerson. Earl first worked for 13 years with the Ralston Purina Company as a Manager in West Lebanon, and later Essex Junction, VT. Then, for several years he was a mechanic at area garages in the Upper Valley. He was also a self employed logger. Earl was a life member of Haverhill Memorial VFW Post # 5245 of North Haverhill, was an avid hunter and outdoorsman, enjoyed snowmobiling, loved his dogs, and was a maple syrup producer. He was married to Betty Wheeler in Brimfield, MA, July 25, 1953. Survivors include his wife of 61 years Betty of Newbury, VT, and two children Becky Conrad and husband Mike of Pike, NH, and Mike Emerson of Newbury, VT, two grandchildren, and four great grandchildren, a sister Christina Jacobs of Bondsville, MA, and two brothers Richard Emerson and wife Royal of Wells River, VT, and Lawrence Emerson and wife Naomi of Greenfield, MA, along with several nieces and nephews. He was born in Warren, NH, September 14, 1926, the son of Charlie Short and Alice Ketchum. A lifelong Warren and Glencliff resident, Everett had been a truck driver, retiring from Precision Lumber of Wentworth. He had served in the US Navy from October 1945 until his discharge in October 1947. Survivors include his wife of 12 years Bettie L. Vincelette of Wichita, KS; a daughter, Carol Vincelette of Benton, NH; two sons, Robert Vincelette and wife Tina of Glencliff, and Everett Vincelette, Jr. and wife Hollis of Warren; along with five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. ....show, 75, of Church Street, died peacefully at her home with her family by her side. Jean was born on July 24, 1939, in Northfield, VT, the daughter of Vera Berno Noble. She attended school at Peacham Academy and married Benjamin W. Berwick who predeceased her in 1985. Jean was passionate about community, and loved to share and socialize daily with many friends and family. She served a few years as keeper of the pound as well as Lister, Deputy Health Officer and served on the board of Peacham Community Housing. She cooked and served at the West Barnet Senior meal site. Jean found one of her true passions to be care-giving and hospice care and she had the pleasure of sitting with and caring for several Peacham residents. Jean and her husband Benjamin were avid dancers. They enjoyed spending an early morning and afternoon out on the boat. Jean s most ultimate pleasure was to stay at camp up on Cow Hill in the summer, enjoying the peaceful calm and joyful quiet of being so close to nature, and cooking meals for family and a few friends on the tiny woodstove. The kitchen and dining room were two of Jean s most loved rooms in the house; rooms that brought so many into her home to celebrate and share a good feast of food, laughs, and good times. Jean is survived by her children, a daughter Janet Matte and husband George of Danville, VT, son Benjamin Berwick of Beattyville, KY, daughter Elaine Chamberlain and husband Mark of Lyndon, son Christopher of St. Johnsbury, VT; two grandchildren, Jeanna Berwick of Barnet, VT and Josslyn Berwick of St. Johnsbury; a great grandson, Jaxon Durffee of Lyndonville, VT; two step-grandchildren, Joshua Chamberlain of St. Johnsbury and Justin Chamberlain of Tilton, NH; a sister, Nancy Pillette and husband Raymond of Lyndonville, VT; sisters in law, Joan Lowell and Carol Workman; brother in law George Barrett; and several nieces and nephews. Over the years, Theresa treasured her family, raising nine children, and enjoying time with her three brothers and three sisters. Theresa attended St. Joseph s Catholic Church in Woodsville and St. Eugene s Catholic Church in Wells River, VT. She was predeceased by her husband, Henry R. Baillargeon, Sr. on November 30, 1988, a daughter, Yvonne Baillargeon in 1962; as well as her siblings. She was a member of the Trinity Church of the Nazarene in North Haverhill. Josie loved the companionship that her dog Ginger gave her. She was very proud to be tech savvy. She was predeceased by her husband, Gustavo Phil Vasquez on March 31, 1994. Survivors include her four sons, Phil A. Skip was born in Benton, NH on October 6, 1939, to Benjamin Leslie and Helen (Cheney) Elliott, Sr. Skip enlisted in the US Marine Corps and served from October 14, 1958 through October 12, 1962. On February 21, 1959, he married Patricia Ann Manning. Skip worked as an auto mechanic at the Sunoco station in Lisbon, NH for 20 years. After that he worked for Crosstown Motors in Littleton, NH before retiring from Nelson s Auto in Littleton in the mid 1990 s. An avid racing fan, Skip actually raced at numerous tracks throughout the Northeast. He belonged to the Fraternal Order of Race Car Drivers. Skip did volunteer work for AHEAD making Thanksgiving baskets and fundraising for the playground at the AHEAD housing in Woodsville. In his spare time, he enjoyed gardening, especially raising tomatoes, fishing, and hunting. He was passionate about his family, cherished the time spent with this grandchildren and great grandchildren, and loved family gatherings. Skip was predeceased by his parents, Benjamin and Helen Elliott, Sr.; a sister, Virginia; three brothers, Ike, David, and Ralph; and a son in law, Terry Morton. ....show, 90, of North Haverhill, NH and formerly of Barnet, VT, died Friday, September 5, 2014, at the Veterans Administration Hospital, White River Junction, VT, following a period of failing health. He was born in Danville, VT, May 5, 1924, a son of Meverett Burr Chamberlain. Everett served in the United States Army during World War II and for many years he worked for Wirthmore Feeds in McIndoe Falls, VT, and later for Agway in North Haverhill, NH. Everett loved his family and friends along with enjoying gardening, hunting, and fishing. He was predeceased by his first wife Helen Jean (Newell) Chamberlain on April 23, 1987 and a son Lee Chamberlain of October 1, 2003. Survivors include his second wife Gloria Chamberlain, and his children, Vivian Chamberlin, Leslie Chamberlin, Steven Chamberlin, Danny Chamberlin, Kelly Chicoine, and caregiver Kim Robie. ....show, 94, of Sand Road, died peacefully at his home on Saturday, September 6, 2014. Bernie was born in Charlestown, MA on December 10, 1919, to Bernard F. and Margaret B. (Connell) Murphy. He graduated from Boston Latin High School. He then served in the US Navy from May 31, 1943 through December 8, 1945 in the Pacific theater as a Seabee. In September 22, 1946, he married Edith Rita Muise. Bernie worked as a machinist for Manning, Maxwell, and Moore in Watertown, MA for nineteen years, then for Fenwall Electronics in Ashland, MA, before working for RCA in Marlborough, MA as a foreman. Along with Edith, Bernie moved to the Haverhill, NH area in 1985 where they ran the Westgate House Bed and Breakfast. He then worked at the North Haverhill Agway and the Indian Corn Mill for several years, and also for the Haverhill Cemetery Commission. He was a member of the Seabee s Association where he served as the chaplain. He was a communicant of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Woodsville, NH, and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member and former treasurer of the Haverhill Corner Fire Department. In his spare time, Bernie loved the ocean and fishing, especially deep sea fishing. He was passionate about his Boston Red Sox. He was predeceased by his daughter, Diane Murphy Kelley on August 30, 2010; brothers Paul J., John M., Charles L., Vincent P., Francis C., and Neil A. Murphy; and a son-in-law, William Rediker on March 17, 2009. He is survived by his wife of nearly 68 years, Edith Murphy of North Haverhill, NH; three children, Margaret Peggy Gelina and husband Paul of Pepperell, MA, Karen Rediker of South Royalton, VT, and Bernard J. Mickey Murphy and wife, Cynthia of Douglas, MA; a son-in-law, Paul Kelley of South Royalton; eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; along with several nieces and nephews. Virginia was born in Barre, VT, December 1, 1923 a daughter of Forrest A. and Stella (McMaster) Ashford. She attended McIndoe Falls graded school, Barre schools, and Spaulding High School. She began working at an early age. During World War II she moved to Connecticut and worked for Pratt & Whitney as a lathe operator. Returning to the area, she married Gilmore K. Somers on March 24, 1946 and continued to work at several retail stores in St. Johnsbury, including Peck s Hardware, W.T. Grant, and Ben Franklin, eventually retiring from 3 W s. She also worked at the South Peacham Store, and the Schoolcraft Egg Farm. Virginia s interests included crossword puzzles, reading, playing cards, such as, poker, solitaire, and gin rummy, dancing, 40 s & 50 s music, flower and vegetable gardening, humming birds and chickadees, raking leaves and shoveling snow. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband and family as always providing a good home, and taking great care of each of them. Virginia is survived by her husband of 68 years, Gilmore K. Somers, Sr., her children Marcy Myers and husband Marvin Gene of Newport News, VA, Mallory Hacking and husband Robert of Strongsville, OH, Gilmore K. Somers, Jr. and wife Cora of Wells River, VT, Carrie Dunbar of Barnet, VT, Lee Somers of Orford, NH, and Jeffrey Somers and wife Kris of Woodsville, NH, 13 grandchildren and several great and great great grandchildren. She was a graduate of McIndoe Falls Academy, McIndoe Falls, VT. On May 20, 1949, she married Harland E. Bedell. Doris was active in all aspects of the Monroe Community Church in Monroe and North Monroe, serving as the organist and pianist for over forty years, as well as being active in the Women s Club. She was also a member of the Monroe Grange. Along with Harland, she loved fishing on Harvey s Lake. In her spare time, she was an avid birdwatcher and enjoyed knitting. She was predeceased by her husband, Harland E. Bedell on May 19, 1991 and by a son, Thomas E. Bedell on April 29, 2008. She is survived by a son Gerald W. Bernice was born in Warren, NH on November 15, 1910, to Edward and India (Elliott) Lupien, Sr. Following graduation from Plymouth Normal School, she attended Hesser Business College in Manchester, NH for two years. She married Roderick A. Lamothe on April 29, 1934. Bernice was the secretary and treasurer for the Mica Crystal Company in Warren for many years. She worked part time in the Warren Post Office in the 1950 s and 1960 s. Then, from 1963 through 1980, Bernice was employed by Equity Publishing of Orford, NH. She was very active in the Warren community serving as a Town Auditor, Supervisor of the Checklist, school board member and library trustee. She was also a charter member of the Minerva Temple #40 of Pythian Sisters and over the past 80 plus years has held most of the offices within the organization. She was predeceased by her husband, Roderick A. Lamothe on September 5, 1963; by their son, Peter E. Lamothe on April 27, 2012; two brothers, Lewis Edward Lupien and an infant brother; and a special niece, Helen Hurley. She is survived by a daughter-in-law, Marie D. Lamothe of Warren; a sister, Bernadette Hurley of Peabody, MA; a brother, Edward R. ....show, 73, died unexpectedly on Thursday, October 2, 2014 at his home. Preston was born in Haverhill, NH, April 30, 1941, the son of Homer and Dorothy (Prescott) Chase. He married Mary Robinson on November 1, 1963. In his early years, Preston worked in Branford, CT. Then he worked for Bath Fiber in Bath, NH and New England Wire in Lisbon, NH. He was a foreman of Henschel Manufacturing in Littleton, NH, returning to New England Wire until his retirement on June 6, 2014. Preston was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, truck pulling, and putting up his own firewood with his brother, Bruce. He enjoyed maple sugaring with all his family. He valued the time spent with his family and attending his grandchildren s sporting events. He was a Boston sports fan. Preston was always willing to lend a helping hand to a friend or stranger. He loved telling jokes and joking around with everyone, especially his grandchildren. Preston will be missed by his companion and faithful four legged friend Amber. He was predeceased by his parents, Homer and Dorothy Chase. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mary Chase of Landaff; their son, Preston L. ....show Died peacefully on October 2, 2014 at age 69 at his home in Barnet Vt surrounded by his loved ones. Born on December 14, 1944 in Hartford Ct to the late Anne (Rice) & Joseph Klimanowski. Peter graduated from Hartford High in1962 where he held the Butterfly Swim record, unsurpassed for 30 years. He also graduated from the University of Albuquerque (BS) and St. Joseph s College (Masters of Pastoral Ministry). Peter was retired from the City of Hartford, Social Services after 25 years of service and in 1994 became ordained as a Deacon for the Catholic Church. He served many churches and prayer groups during this calling including Our Lady of Sorrows, Htfd Ct, St. Eugene s Church Wells River, Vt, St. Joseph s Prayer Group and New Jerusalem Prayer Group. Even throughout his last years on earth, Peter continued to counsel numerous people in his community and various surrounding towns. Peter was an avid Red Sox and Uconn Huskie fan and one could hear his cheers and jeers for miles away. His most favorite things to do included debating politics, sports, history facts, bonfires and looking for deer in the mountains of Vermont. He is survived by his two loving daughters, Jody Bolduc and Fiance Robert Coates of Manchester Ct, Wendy Goudreault and husband Joseph of South Windsor Ct, and their mother Judy A. ....show, 97, former long-time resident of Warren, died on Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at the Grafton County Nursing Home, North Haverhill, NH. Claude was born on February 14, 1917, the son of Clinton and Edna (Robie) Stetson of Piermont, NH. On June 14, 1946, he married Leona Irene Paige. In the early years, Claude and Leona worked and lived on logging jobs before settling, in 1952, on the Foote Farm in Warren, a family farm for five generations. Along with farming, Claude was a sugar producer, winning the prestigious Carlisle Trophy from the NH Sugar Makers Association for the best maple syrup in NH. Together with Leona, Claude enjoyed camping and traveling to 48 states and five Canadian provinces. They were also early snowmobile fans, riding the trails in Warren. He was an avid outdoorsman and hunting guide who loved fishing, deer hunting and coon hunting with his dogs. Many folks will remember Claude riding his mule, Kate, throughout the area. He was a member of the Knights of Pythian, the Good Sam s Club, the Coon Club and the Swimming Dog Club. Claude was predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Leona Foote on October 21, 2010, and by his siblings, Wesley, Lillian, Louise, Lois, and Evelyn. He is survived by his daughter, Jeanne I. Harlow of East Thetford, VT; his son, Charles A. Reita was born on September 30, 1931, in Thetford, VT, to George and Sybil (Stone) Boyd. She graduated from Woodsville High School, Class of 1949, and attended college in North Hampton, MA. On May 30, 1964, she married Frederick M. Bud Jones. For many years Reita was a supervisor for the Health & Human Services Division Office in Woodsville, and later in Littleton, NH. She retired from this position on September 30, 1993. She then worked at Cottage Hospital in Woodsville as a unit secretary for six years. Reita was a member of the Woodsville United Methodist Church, and Women s Club where she served as Treasurer, and was a member and treasurer of the Woodsville Public Library Board. She was also a member of Ladies Auxiliary Post # 20 American Legion of Woodsville, a member of the Haverhill Bath Covered Bridge Restoration Project, a member and past president of the Cottage Hospital Auxiliary, and the Woodsville Sunshine Bowling League. Reita was an avid reader. She enjoyed playing bingo and cribbage, was passionate about the Red Sox, and was a Celtics fan, also. She was predeceased by her husband, Frederick Bud Jones on February 1, 2008, and by her siblings, Andrew Duke Boyd, Clifford Tug Boyd, Betty Dresser, and Gloria Kenney. He entered the United States Marine Corps on July 5, 1967, served during the Vietnam War and was the recipient of two Purple Hearts. He was discharged on May 11, 1970 as a Sergeant. For several years, Buz was a self-employed carpenter. He moved to Vermont from Pennsylvania in the spring of1979. He was a life member of the East Barre VFW. Buz loved hunting, fishing, feeding the chipmunks, as well as caring for his own animals. He is survived by his children, Michelle Singer and Theodore Ted Graham of North Carolina; his mother, Ann F. Graham of Ellwood City, PA; a granddaughter and two great grandchildren; his longtime companion, Sylvia Beck of West Topsham, VT; a brother, Malcolm Mac Graham and Linda of Ellwood City, PA and two sisters, Stephanie Graham of Randolph, VT, and Ernesta Ziter and husband Mike of Barre, VT; along with and uncle and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. ....show, 82, of Main Street, died Sunday, October 19, 2014, at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, Lebanon, NH following a courageous three year battle with cancer. He was born in Haverhill, NH, January 9, 1932, a son of Reginald and Helen (Kemp) Evans, and graduated from Plymouth High School, class of 1950. He served in the United States Navy from 1952 to 1956. Gerry married Emily Olin on May 5, 1957. He worked for the State of New Hampshire Department of Transportation for 33 years, retiring as foreman of the Wentworth Dept. #19 in 1992. After retirement from the State, he worked for five years for L & R Crushing in Warren. He later worked part time for six years for K.E. Whitcher in Warren as a log crane operator. Gerry enjoyed hunting, mowing the lawn, talking with truck drivers on his CB, and visiting with people. He loved going out to check the roads early in the morning. Gerry was predeceased by a son, Robb Evans on August 1, 1990. She was born in Haverhill, NH, July 3, 1924, a daughter of Eugene E. and Edith (Jesseman) Lamarre. Elsie was a graduate of Woodsville High School, Class of 1942. On August 12, 1943, she married David E. Johnson. For many years Elsie was a sales clerk at the former E.B. Mann Drug Store and Johnson Electric in Woodsville. While living in Lebanon, NH for several years, she worked at Dutile s Jewelry Store. In her spare time, Elsie enjoyed cake decorating and knitting. She operated a yarn store out of her home on Pleasant Street in Woodsville for many years. Elsie was a member of the Haverhill Post # 5245 VFW Auxiliary, North Haverhill, the Woodsville United Methodist Church and Girls Club of Woodsville, the Progressive Club, and the RSVP Morning Call Program. Elsie was predeceased by her parents, Eugene E. Lamarre in 1969 and Edith M. (Jesseman) Johnson in 1991; her husband, David E. Johnson, Sr. on October 17, 2010; two sons, Gary A. Johnson in August 1991 and Stephen E. Johnson in March 2005, and two sisters, Beverly Hogan and Irene Duncan. Survivors include a son David E. Jeannine was born on June 20, 1921, in Blue Sea, Quebec to Alphonse and Victoria (Courclaine) Lacroix. Along with her husband, Stanley L. Hart, Jeannine lived in Groton for over fifty years before moving to Wells River in 1993 and then to Essex Junction in 1998. She attended the Groton United Methodist Church. She enjoyed time spent with the ladies of the church and their sewing group. She also liked berry picking and snowmobiling. Jeannine truly appreciated her family and the time spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Once she met someone, she considered them as part of her extended family. She was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Stanley Lawrence Hart on June 9, 1997; by a daughter, Barbara Whitehill and two granddaughters, Janice Marie and Tina Marie in March 1959; and by her siblings, Laurier Lacroix, Antoinette Avakian, Joseph Lacroix, Marianne Young, and Riena Lacroix. Gadwah, Sr. and Cyrena (Jolin) Getchell. He was a graduate of Woodsville High School, Class of 1950. On February 17, 1951, he married Jacquelyn Jackie Lucas. Claude worked as a truck driver over the years and also was employed as a manager at Gerrity Building Center in Woodsville. He was a member of the NH National Guard, Battery C, also of Woodsville. Claude was active in numerous community groups including the Ammonoosuc Fish and Game Club, Cohase Lions Club, Grafton-Kane Lodge # 46 of North Haverhill, Bektash Shrine of Concord, NH, the Shrine Hillbillies, Ross-Wood American Legion Post #30, Haverhill VFW Post # 5245, and the Littleton Elks. He was predeceased by a brother, Gene Gadwah on April 8, 2012. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jackie Lucas Gadwah; two daughters, Cyrena Gadwah and Raymond Thayer of North Haverhill and Jean Adams and husband Tom of Woodsville; two sons, Larry Gadwah and wife Linda of Littleton, NH and Gary Gadwah and wife Cindy of Bath, NH; seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; a brother, Dean Gadwah and wife Bernice of Lebanon, NH; and several nieces and nephews. On March 25, 1951, she married Hoyt A. Darby. She worked for many years as a receptionist and secretary at Cottage Hospital in Woodsville. Over the years, Priscilla was active in the Woodsville United Methodist Church and the Girls Club as-well-as the Cottage Hospital Auxiliary. She loved cooking and entertaining her family and friends. She was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Hoyt A. Darby on June 18, 2010 and by her siblings, Kathleen Brown, Charlotte Prescott, Harry Millette, John H. Millette, Malcolm D. Mike Millette and Frank D. Millette. She leaves her three children, Stephanie D. Cross and husband Michael, Roy A. Darby and wife Kim, Hoyt M. He attended schools in Piermont and graduated from Bradford Academy. Following graduation he served in the US Army. He continued his service to our country as a member of the VT Army National Guard, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. For nineteen years, he worked as a carpenter for Pat Dixon in West Fairlee, VT. He also did maintenance work at the Oliverian School in Pike, NH. Bill was passionate about the outdoors and outdoor activities such as skiing, hunting, fishing, hiking and windsurfing. He trained bird dogs for hunting. He enjoyed traveling and visiting with friends. He is survived by his mother, Caroline French of Lyndonville, VT; a daughter, Carmen Gross and husband Daniel of East Corinth, VT; four grandchildren, Brittany Gross, Mason Gross, Casey Gross, and Makana Gross; and a brother, Ernest French of Indiana. Mary was born on March 29, 1952, in Randolph, VT, the daughter of Richard Fred and Earline Alice (Bundy) Bliss. Mary graduated from South Royalton High School. She spent most of her life in Tunbridge, VT. Mary worked at the Tunbridge Fair and the former Brooksie s Diner in Sharon, VT. She also worked at the Grant Corwin Dairy Farm in South Royalton and several other dairy farms throughout Vermont. She worked for Northfield Wood Products. Mary was a former member of the Northfield Fast Squad. She moved to Groton in May of 2000 to be closer to family. Mary was very proud to be a descendant of Chief Takahoma of the Micmac Tribe. She loved to hunt and fish. She was predeceased by her father, Richard F. Bliss and her sister, Janet Bliss. ....show, 78, of Swamp Road, died unexpectedly at her home on Wednesday, November 5, 2014, and has now been reunited with her soul mate Virgil and daughter Cathy. Glenda was born on April 3, 1936, in Newbury, to Robert O. and Amy (Downing) Burroughs. She was a graduate of Newbury Town Central School . Glenda married Virgil M. Welch on August 12, 1955. Glenda did woodworking at Copeland Furniture in Bradford, VT and worked at the Four Corners Farm in Newbury. She also worked for the hot lunch program at the South Ryegate (VT) Elementary School. For nearly twenty years, Glenda has been a paraprofessional at Woodsville Elementary School in Woodsville, NH. In her younger years, she broke horses. She enjoyed gardening. For over forty years, along with Virgil, Glenda helped farm their family land before moving to the cabin they built together. She loved being at camp where she was able to drive her Miss Daisy like a four-wheeler. Her family was precious to her and she loved being with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Glenda was predeceased by her husband of over 58 years, Virgil M. Welch on April 5, 2009 and by their oldest daughter, Cathrine Mae Williams on April 9, 2014. She was predeceased by three brothers, David F., Robert C., and Kenneth N. Burroughs. She was predeceased by Blue, Virgil and Glenda s very special dog, just last week. Irving was a lifelong Briar Hill resident where he operated his registered Holstein dairy farm, the Giant Elm Farm, until his retirement. Later, he worked for several years at the Lewis Farm in Haverhill. He was a member of the Grafton County Holstein Club and the Farm Bureau. He graciously supported local groups and community activities over the years. He was also a member of the North Haverhill United Methodist Church. Irving was predeceased by his parents; his two brothers, Harold R. Pete Thayer on March 25, 1976, and Orman M. Red Thayer on October 30, 2006, and their wives, Evelyn Thayer on May 7, 2013, and Isabelle Thayer on August 15, 2013; and a nephew, Orman M. Thayer, Jr. on December 6, 2010. Survivors include five nieces, Audrey Clough and husband Sam, Irene Fournier and husband Ron, both of North Haverhill and Katie Thayer and husband Scott Darling, and Jody Engle and husband Robert Pudge , both of Wells River, VT and Barbara Norcross of Haverhill; three nephews, Wayne Thayer of Dover, NH, Raymond Thayer and Cyrena Gadwah, and Howard Thayer and Annie Boutin, both of North Haverhill; several great nieces and nephews; and his caregivers, Peter, Michele, and Dalton Thayer, Angela Ricker, Wendy Patoine, Melissa Downing, and Mary Lee Vigent. She was predeceased by her husband Frederick Vielleux on January 23, 2012; two sons, Randy A. Vielleux on November 6, 1989 and Ty M. Vielleux on November 1, 1995; as-well-as a sister, Patricia Gallant and a brother, Harold Bud Powers on October 10, 2002. Irene is survived by a son, Gary F. She was born in Monroe, NH, September 23, 1927, a daughter of Frank and Jennie (Moore) Gibson. Ruth graduated from Woodsville High School, Class of 1945, and attended Burdett Business College in Boston. For several years she was a bookkeeper for the former Hovey s Shops of St. Johnsbury and later worked as a teaching aide in the Barnet School System. Ruth gave private piano lessons for 26 years and played trumpet in the McLure s Band, starting in third grade. She sang in the North Country Chorus and the Melatones, a barber shop quartet. For many years, Ruth was a substitute organist at many area churches and played for many weddings and church events. Also for several years she was a volunteer at the Littleton Regional Hospital. She is a member of the Monroe Community Church. Ruth married Roland Emmons on October 30, 1948 and he predeceased her on April 17, 1991. She was also predeceased by a daughter, Nancy Wayne, on August 30, 2001, and three brothers Ross, Elwin, and Dale Gibson. Survivors include her children, Judith Hayward and husband Charles of Dayton, ME, Keith Emmons and wife Belinda of Barnet, VT, Curtis Emmons of Littleton, and Marjorie Emmons of Monroe; ten grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren; a sister, Carolyn Fitzgerald of Monroe; along with several nieces and nephews. ....show passed away peacefully at the Grafton County Nursing Home, North Haverhill, on Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at the age of 94. Evelyn was born on October 28, 1920 in Websterville, VT to Ernest and Helen (Sykes) Cross, and later became the stepdaughter of Harry Chapman. She graduated from Haverhill Academy in 1938, from Brightlook Hospital in 1942 with a Nursing degree, and New England College in 1985 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology. Evelyn began her nursing career as a floor supervisor at Brightlook Hospital in St. Johnsbury, VT. She then became a part-time nurse at the original Cottage Hospital in Woodsville, NH and later was employed at the Sanatorium in Glencliff, NH where she specialized as an operating room nurse. In 1952, she began her extensive career at the Grafton County Hospital, which became the Grafton County Nursing Home in 1961. Evelyn was the Director of Nursing at this facility from 1955 until her retirement in 1991. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Stub Bigelow, whom she married in 1943; a brother, Frank Cross of Houston, TX; and a sister, Greta Morris of Haverhill, NH. She is survived by her daughter, Judith White and husband, Jack of Leesburg, FL; her son, Donald Bigelow and wife, Susan of North Haverhill and Fort Myers, FL; her grandchildren, Carrie Daughtery and husband, Edward of Mount Dora, FL, Todd Bigelow and wife, Jhoey of Middletown, NJ, Ryan Bigelow and friend, Victoria of Piscataway, NJ; her four great grandchildren, Anthony Tony, Amanda, Kylie and Cohen, who were so very precious to her and brought great joy to her life. ....show, 84, of Frost Road, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, November 26, 2014, while wintering in Dade City, FL. She passed gracefully, cradled by love, in to the arms of her Lord and Savior. The dignity of her departure matched the dignity of the life she led. She was born in St. Johnsbury, VT, April 24, 1930, a daughter of Harry A. and Harriet (Cassidy) Lackie, Sr. The family lived in Peacham, VT before moving to Haverhill and then to Bath, NH in the early 1940 s. Joyce graduated from Woodsville High School, Class of 1948, where she was a student athlete, having played basketball. Later, she graduated from Laconia Business School. During her student days, she met the love of her life, Calvin R. Frost, and they were married on November 23, 1949, and have lived in South Ryegate ever since. For several years, she was the bookkeeper for Walker Motor Sales in Woodsville. Joyce rode with Calvin in the truck when delivering granite, did the bookkeeping for his business, and even drove the tractor trailer truck. As a child, she attended the Barnet Center Presbyterian Church and became a member of the South Ryegate Presbyterian Church in 1950. There, she served as a trustee, was treasurer for several years, and was ordained an elder on January 24, 1982, served several terms and was also the Clerk of Session. She attended the Presbytery of Northern New England meetings and served on the committee. As a member of the Presbyterian Women, over the years she worked to support missions, chaired many fund raisers such as the annual chicken pie supper, held offices, and co-founded in 1984 the South Ryegate Senior Meal Program. Joyce served as manager, menu planner, and co-managed with a dedicated group of volunteers the successful meal program. Known as a hands-on-person, and a guiding voice, she received Honorary Life Membership from the Presbyterian Women in 1995. Joyce also served as a Trustee and Clerk of the Board of Cottage Hospital in Woodsville. Since 1997, she and Calvin have wintered in the Dade City, FL area where they made many friends, played cards in the evenings, and shuffle board during the day. Joyce excelled at these events and won many tournaments in the park. One year they shared the Citizen of the Year award. Joyce loved her home and got much enjoyment from tending her flower beds. In her spare time, she loved doing crafts. Over the years, she knitted hundreds of hats for the BMU second grade students. Joyce was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and devoted sister. She enjoyed cooking, baking, and attending her granddaughters soccer and track events all over Vermont. The world has been immeasurably improved by having her in it. Few people gave as much support and love to those around her as Joyce did. Few people laughed and enjoyed life as much as she. Joyce was an inspiration to countless people, and her joy and compassion endeared her to everyone. Joyce was predeceased by a son, Robert William Frost who died on February 18, 1953; three sisters, Arlene Swett, Shirley Cate, and Eva Pearl; and four brothers, Francis, James, Harry Jr., and Leslie Lackie. She graduated from Groton High School, class of 1964. Doris married Michael Frigon on October 15, 1966. She worked many years as an LPN for area nursing homes and home health and hospice agencies. Doris belonged to her nursing association. Family had always been very important throughout her life. She is survived by her husband, Michael Frigon of Barre, VT; three sons, Brian Frigon and wife Julia of Vancouver, WA, Gregory Frigon and wife Lisa of Baton Rouge, LA, and Douglas Frigon of Barre; two sisters, Gracelyn Blaise of Orange, VT and Lillian Olsen of East Corinth, VT; three brothers, Harvey Ricker of South Ryegate, VT, Lawrence Ricker of Topsham, VT, and Roderic Ricker of White River Junction, VT; eight grandchildren and one great granddaughter; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Woodsville, NH - Roger L. Ruggles
....show, 89, a long-time Woodsville resident, died after a period of declining health on Saturday, November 29, 2014, at Cottage Hospital, Woodsville. Roger was born in Lisbon, NH on January 12, 1925, to Harry and Esther Belle (Morse) Ruggles. He married Iona A. LeMay on November 16, 1946. Roger worked in various jobs at the East Ryegate Paper Mill for forty years from 1954 through 1994. He enjoyed tinkering on lawn mowers and other machines. Roger could be seen taking walks all over town. In later years, he assisted others by taking them to appointments and shopping. He was predeceased by his wife of nearly 53 years, Iona A. Ruggles on April 12, 1999, and by several sisters and brothers. Roger is survived by four sons, Bradley G. Ruggles and wife Kelli of Littleton, NH, James J. Ruggles and wife Elizabeth, Jeffrey P. Ruggles and wife Yvonne of Lyndonville, VT, and Richard K. Peacham, VT - John Freeman Thresher
....show, 74, of Farrow Farm Road, passed peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family, on Saturday, November 29, 2014. John was born in St. Johnsbury, VT on March 28, 1940, to Albert Babe and Ellen (Snow) Thresher, Sr. He was a graduate of Peacham Academy, Class of 1958. Following graduation, he served in the US Navy from 1958-1963. His experience in the Navy included the honor of serving aboard the USS Lake Champlain CVS39 when it retrieved astronaut Alan Shepard from his space flight on Freedom 7. He married Arlene Kaye Patch on September 19, 1964. Following his discharge from the Navy, he worked for several foundries until 1976 when he bought the family farm, the Thresher Never Done Farm on County Road, retiring in 2000. John enjoyed being with his family and working around the farm, sugaring, snowmobiling and hunting. He was predeceased by his parents, Babe and Ellen Thresher and by five brothers, Tom, Steven, Frank, Fred and David Thresher. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Kaye Thresher of Peacham; their children, Michael L. Thresher and wife Julie of Danville, VT, Michelle D. Goodwin and husband Walter of West Berlin, VT, and Tricia R. Mitchell and husband Dave of Newton, NH; seven grandchildren; four great grandchildren; siblings, Forrest Robinson and wife Violette of Westmoreland, NH, Allen C. Monroe, NH - Eugene Weston Gene Puffer
....show, 85, of Woodsville Road, died following a period of failing health, on Sunday, November 30, 2014 at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, Lebanon, NH. Gene was born in Haverhill, NH on October 5, 1929, to Lorimer and Alice (Welch) Puffer. He was a graduate of Groton High School, Class of 1947 and attended Arnold College in Milford, CT for two years. Eventually, he graduated from Career Academy School of Broadcasters. On October 27, 1950, he married Clara Sadie Hatch. Initially, Gene worked for WCVR, Central Vermont Radio, in Randolph, VT. On October 3, 1976, along with brothers, Gordon and Harold, and son Stephen, he built and helped establish Puffer Brothers Broadcasting and WYKR radio in Haverhill, Woodsville, and Wells River. Spanning the decades, Gene broadcasted Norwich University football games, both home and away, from 1970 through 1990, as-well-as local high school basketball games. In 1998, Gene was inducted into the Vermont Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame. He also was the recipient of the Paul Harris Award by Wells River and Woodsville Rotary Club. Gene was a railroading enthusiast and during high school, he worked on the Montpelier to Wells River line. For fourteen years he and Clara owned the South Ryegate Store. They owned it during the time the store was moved from the old Route 302 to its current location. Gene was a very devoted Christian man. He was a former member and Elder of the South Ryegate Presbyterian Church. He treasured and was blessed by his family. He was predeceased by his grandparents, Rev. Eugene and Blanche (Stephenson) Puffer and George and Goldie (Hutchins) Welch; his parents, Lorimer and Alice (Welch) Puffer; and a brother, Harold Bruce Puffer. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Clara Puffer of Monroe; two daughters, Deborah P. Milnor and husband Ed of Monroe and Rebecca C. Warren, NH - Edward Rowe Lupien, Jr.
....show, 86, a lifelong Warren resident, died on Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at Cottage Hospital, Woodsville, NH. Eddie was born on August 26, 1928 in Warren, to Edward Rowe and India M. (Elliott) Lupien, Sr. He attended Warren Elementary School and Orford High School then went to school in Kansas City, MO for mechanics. He married Judith L. Bickford on April 30, 1958. Eddie had a varied working career, despite the fact that he lost his left arm at 14. As a young man, he was the night-watchman at the Moosilauke Inn. He worked for Dartmouth College at the Ravine Lodge. Among his other jobs for Dartmouth, he ran the ski rope tow. He also worked for his father at the Mica Crystal Company in Warren. He continued working as a logger, doing all of his own mechanical work. Eddie was a deputy Forest Fire Warden and a self-taught clock maker. For many years, he worked auctions for Archie Steenburgh and George Clement. Eddie was dedicated to service for others and volunteered at the Glencliff Home for eleven years. Along with his wife, Judy, they formed a corporation to get a new handicapped bus for the Home. He served as a board member for North Country Senior Action for twenty years. Eddie loved being outdoors, hunting and fishing, especially with his father. He always looked forward to yearly vacations in Boothbay Harbor, ME. As Eddie had never completed high school, he was always encouraging people, young and old, to further their education. He was predeceased by his parents, Edward and India Lupien, Sr.; a younger brother, Lewis Edward Lupien and an infant brother; his sister, Bernice Lamothe; two brothers-in-law, Roderick A. Lamothe and Michael Hurley; a niece, Helen Hurley; and a nephew, Peter Lamothe. Eddie is survived by his wife on 56 years, Judy Lupien of Warren; a sister, Bernadette Hurley of Peabody, MA; several cousins, nieces, and nephews, including two special nephews, William Hurley and John Hurley; two brothers in law, Grant R. Wells River, VT Jean Hooker Lanphere Hollar
....show was born at home in the Village of Wells River on May 30, 1924, the daughter of Adelaide Hooker Lanphere and Charles Henry Lanphere. She died on Tuesday, December 2, 2014, after a period of failing health at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH surrounded by her family. Jean s education began at Wells River High School, graduating in 1942. She attended Tufts in Boston and received a Bachelor s Degree in History from the University of Vermont in 1945. She later received a Master s Degree in Education from Keene State College. Jean was an avid reader and lifelong learner and educator. Her teaching career began at Bellows Free Academy in Fairfax, VT., and continued at St. Johnsbury Academy where her mother had taught previously. Her career continued with additional teaching positions at Gorham High School, Gorham, ME, and Thomaston High School in Thomaston, CT. She returned to Vermont and taught elementary school in Townshend, VT, and finishing her career with 20 years in Westminister, VT. She was also employed by the Vermont Department of Child Welfare, supervising Foster children and working with Foster families in Southern, VT. She met her husband, John Hollar of Bellows Falls, while working in Southern VT. The two were married in St. Luke s Episcopal Church, Woodsville, NH in 1956. Mr. & Mrs. John Hollar took their honeymoon to Quebec City, they settled in Bellows Falls. In 1958 twin sons, John Hooker Hollar and James Andrew Hollar were born to the couple. Jean had a lifelong interest in travel and visiting other countries beginning with a tour of Europe while teaching at St. Johnsbury Academy. This was followed by an automobile tour of the southern states continuing to California and Oregon eventually returning across the country s northern tier. While teaching in Westminister Jean s classroom formed a friendship with a Russian School in Volgagrad. After some correspondence with the Russian teachers and exchanged between the two classrooms, Jean was fortunate to make the trip of a lifetime to visit the Russian classroom the highlight of her teaching career. Throughout her life Jean maintained her mother s home in Wells River while helping to raise her family in Bellows Falls. Many summers were also spent at her family s camp on Halls Lake in West Newbury, VT. The order of each day was swimming followed by more swimming. A cancer survivor, Jean insisted that in order to expedite her rehabilitation she insisted that her boys replace a portion of the family garden with a swimming pool. The result was an unforgettable and irreplaceable family victory. Jean attended the United Church of Bellows Falls and was a lifelong member of the Wells River Congregational Church. She was also a fifty year member of Alpha Chapter 53 Order of the Eastern Star and the Bellows Falls Women s Club. She was an active member of the Windham Northeast Education Association. Upon retiring from teaching she continued tutoring students, served as Secretary at the United Church of Bellows Falls and as substitute Librarian in Walpole, NH. Jean had a lifelong interest in music and art. Upon retirement she joined and art class and enjoyed painting for many years sharing her works with family and friends. She continued to enjoy life spending time in Bellows Falls and Wells River with her sons and grandchildren. Her survivors include her sons, Johnny Hollar of Walpole, NH and Jimmy Hollar of Marlow, NH. Four grandchildren, Michael Hollar, Amy Hollar, Rachel Hollar, and Andrew Hollar. Also five close cousins, Jacqueline Swartz, Judith H. Safford, and John Parker Hooker IV, John Perry Hooker and Jackie Cass. She also leaves many dear friends, Irene Johnson, Marion Siebert, Marilyn and Bob Wheeler, Barbara Comtois, Ila Mitchell, as well as many others. There will be no calling hours. Piermont, NH Caroline (Batchelder) Kelly French
....show, 94, died Thursday, December 4, 2014, at The Pines, Lyndonville, VT. She was born in Haverhill, NH February 26, 1920, a daughter of William and Martha (Clifford) Batchelder. Kelly, as she was known to many, lived in Piermont for many years where she was active in the community. She volunteered her time, energy, and talents at the Piermont Village School, was involved in the Piermont Library, and also worked on fundraising efforts for Cottage Hospital in Woodsville, NH. She also attended the Piermont Congregational Church and regularly participated in church functions and activities. Kelly was an outstanding cook and baker who loved the Christmas season and baking for family and friends. Following the death of her husband Chester L. French in 1985, she relocated to the Laconia, NH area, living closer to her sister Janet Cummings. While living there, she was active in the First Methodist Church of Gilford, NH. In the late 1990 s she relocated to Fairlee, VT, and later to the Atkinson Home in Newbury, VT, before her final move to The Pines in Lyndonville, VT. Kelly was a caregiver, always ready and willing to help others, in a non judgemental, gracious, loving way. She continued to maintain close relationships with her granddaughters, Jennifer and Carmen. She was predeceased by her husband Chester in 1985, her son William Bill French on October 29, 2014, her sister Janet Cummings and husband Clem, and a brother William Batchelder, who was killed in Pearl Harbor. Survivors include her son Ernest French of Indiana, two granddaughters Carmen Gross and husband Daniel of East Corinth, VT, and Jennifer Dunn of Lincoln, NH, eight great grandchildren Brittany, Casey, Mason Makana, Michael, Demi, Austin and Connor, a niece Joyce Keyser and husband Jeff of Gilford, NH, along with their daughter Cassidy, and a nephew Peter Cummings of Lancaster, NH. ....show, 82, a former longtime resident of Montpelier, VT and currently of Glover Road, died unexpectedly at the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington, VT on Sunday, December 7, 2014. Christie was born on February 8, 1932, in Ryegate, VT to Kenneth and Jane (Heath) Murray. She was a graduate of Groton High School and Vermont College in Montpelier. She married Clifton B. Cliff Hersey on November 29, 1957. During her working career, Christie served as secretary to the Dean of Vermont College in Montpelier and later was secretary at Montpelier High School. She later established a day care in the Montpelier area from 1968 until 1999. In 2001, she and Cliff moved from Montpelier to Groton. Christie was a member of the DAR. She enjoyed cooking, watching wildlife, berry picking and apple picking. She was famous for her baked beans. She thoroughly enjoyed her Tuesday morning get-togethers with the girls at the P&H Truck Stop in Wells River. She loved her granddaughter, Katelyn. Following the death of her mother and due to her father s poor health, Christie went to live with her sister, Jessie Welch and husband Harry and she considered them as her Mother and Dad. Christie was predeceased by her sisters, Jessie Welch, Annie Page, Roberta Gibson, and Hazel Lancaster, and her brothers, Kenneth, Norman, Donald, and Robert Murray. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Cliff Hersey of Groton; a daughter, Tamara Hersey of Montpelier; a son, Mark Hersey of Worcester, VT; a granddaughter, Katelyn Hersey of Montpelier; a sister, Margaret Strobridge of Essex, VT; and several beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins. Newbury, VT - Bruce Wayne Bones Gaylord
....show, 61, of Romance Lane, died following a courageous battle with cancer, on Sunday, December 7, 2014 at his home. Bruce was born in Bristol, CT, on September 27, 1953, to Irving R. and Corrine (Brousseau) Gaylord. He attended Bristol Eastern High School, Bristol, CT. Bruce entered the U.S. Navy in 1972 where he trained to be a firefighter on various ships. After his honorable discharge from the Navy he resided in California until 1978. While in California he married his first wife Kathleen Lynch and they had their first son, Daniel James Gaylord. Upon leaving California in 1978 he moved back to Connecticut and met his second wife Susan A. Eastman. They were married on October 17, 1981. Together they had three children, David Wayne Gaylord, Sarah Lynn Gaylord, and Michael Wyatt Gaylord. During Bruce s working career he drove truck for Grape Vines in California delivering grapes to the local wineries. In Connecticut, he worked in the concrete business for many different companies, driving concrete truck and operating front end loaders. Bruce s real passion was riding motorcycles. He loved his Shovel Head and Heritage Softtail motorcycles. Bruce had made several trips to Sturgis, SD, and knew every road in Northern New Hampshire by heart. Besides his passion for motorcycles, was his family and friends. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and being outdoors with the wind blowing through his beard. He was predeceased by his parents, Irving R. and Corrine (Brousseau) Gaylord; and a brother, Russell P. Gaylord. Bradford, VT - Melvin Curtiss Benzie, Sr.
....show, 84, a longtime Bradford resident, died on Saturday, December 13, 2014, at the Brookside Nursing Home, White River Junction, VT. Melvin was born in Calais, VT, on July 16, 1930, to James J. and Helen M. (Peck) Benzie. Following graduation from high school, he joined the US Navy. After discharge from the service, Melvin worked at HO Taylor Chevrolet in Wells River, VT. He then ran Benzie s Texaco Station on Main Street in Bradford for many years. Later, he retired as a rural mail carrier from the Bradford Post Office. Melvin was a member of the United Church of Christ in Bradford. He was a thirty year member of the Bradford Fire Department, serving as Chief for twenty of those years. He was on the Bradford FAST Squad and was an EMT for Upper Valley Ambulance. Melvin was proud to have worked on October 5, 1991, the day patients were transferred from the old Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital to the new Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center. On June 9, 1952, Melvin married Delphine Wheeler and she predeceased him on December 9, 1985. He was also predeceased by a granddaughter, Tammy Piper on June 13, 2013 and by two sisters, his twin, Marilyn Irene Benzie and Ina Boucher. He is survived by two daughters, Marilyn I. Benzie of Barre, VT and Tina M. Benzie of Bradford; a son, Melvin C. Kurt Benzie, Jr. of Bradford; two granddaughters, Tina M. Foster and husband Jeff of Springfield, VT and Katie Bourgeois and husband Jason of Bradford; five great grandchildren, Dylan James Foster, Michael Curtiss Needham, Mary Jane Bourgeois, Anastase Dee Bourgeois, and Mazie Charlene Bourgeois; two sisters, Charlotte Fadden of North Haverhill, NH and Janet Puffer of Groton, VT; a brother, John Willard Benzie of Grand Rapids, MN; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Calling hours will be on Friday, December 19 from 6-8 PM at Ricker Funeral Home, 1 Birch Street, Woodsville, NH. A funeral service will be on Saturday, December 20 at 2 PM at the United Church of Christ, Bradford, VT, with Rev. Thomas Kinder, officiating. Burial will be in Upper Plain Cemetery, Bradford, in the spring 2015. Memorial contributions may be made to the newly established Melvin C. Benzie, Sr. Memorial Scholarship Fund at the Oxbow High School.
Walter Everett Rowley III
....show died peacefully in his sleep on the morning of December 15, 2014 after a short illness. Rett , as he was known by his friends and family, was born in 1945 in L.I., New York to Marjorie Paris Rowley and W. E. Rowley, Jr. They later moved to New Milford, Ct. where he graduated from New Milford High School in 1963. He then attended Clemson University and graduated from Goddard College in Plainfield, Vt. He taught English and Art at Bradford Academy and later at Oxbow High School for several years. He later followed his passion for books and worked as a publisher s representative for Scribner s, St Martin s Press, and Doubleday and Co. in Northern New England. He also worked for Sherwin Dodge as a print salesman for many years. Rett was an avid gardener, swimmer, and artist. He loved working on his old house in Bath, NH where he put his artistic talents to work. Reading was his greatest passion. He kept the librarians in town busy ordering books for him. He loved the town of Bath where he lived with his wife Susan for over 40 years, and was involved in town affairs over the years. He was especially proud of his work on the School Building Committee. Rett is survived by his wife of 45 years, Susan Davis Rowley and children Aaron Rowley of Milwaukie, Oregon, wife Melissa and grandson Asa,,, as well as daughter Elizabeth Rowley, partner Alexander Drake, and grandchildren Josephine and Remington. of Bethlehem, NH. His family will miss his wisdom and knowledge of so many topics. A commitment ceremony will be held at a later date in the spring, to be announced. Haverhill, NH - Richard Merle Ingerson, Sr.
....show, 78, died on Monday, December 15, 2014, at the Lafayette Center, Franconia, NH, following a brief illness. Richard was born in Haverhill, NH, on January 24, 1936, to George and Bertice (Wheeler) Ingerson. On February 24, 1956, he married Patricia White. Richard had a varied working career, beginning as a self-employed logger. He then drove truck for Newman Lumber in Woodsville, NH, worked for Northeast Square and Dowel and Blackmount Equipment, both in North Haverhill, and finally at the former Old Mill Pine in North Haverhill. Richard also served in the US Army and the National Guard for several years. For several years Richard sharpened blades for folks. In his spare time, he enjoyed gardening, especially growing garlic, and puttering around and fixing things. He loved time spent with his family and grandchildren. Along with his wife, Pat, they enjoyed camping, attending fairs and horse-pulling events. Richard had a great sense of humor. He was predeceased by his brothers, Leland and Douglas Ingerson, a half-brother, Harold Ike Wheeler, and a son-in-law, Richard Lique on November 3, 2012. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Patricia Ingerson of Hanover Terrace; their daughter, Donna Lique of Woodsville; their three sons, Richard Ingerson, Jr. and wife Sandra of West Burke, VT, James Ingerson and wife Paula of Monroe, NH, and Jonathan Ingerson and wife Virginia of Haverhill; eleven grandchildren; several great grandchildren; two brothers, Russell Ingerson of Littleton, NH and Donald Monk Ingerson of Bath, NH; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. ....show, 91, of Main Street, died Wednesday, December 17, 2014, at the Grafton County Nursing Home, North Haverhill, NH. She was born in Greenfield, ME, Ocotber 18, 1923, a daughter of Darrell and Julia (Madden) Harris, and was a graduate of Higgins Classical Institute, Charleston, ME. Glennis worked at Maple Grove, Inc., in St. Johnsbury, VT, retiring in 1990 after 25 years. Glennis married the Rev. Warren E. Nye on July 3, 1943, and he predeceased her on November 25, 1982. Survivors include two sons Richmond R. Nye of Escondido, CA, and William W. Nye of Halifax, Nova Scotia, five grandchildren, five great grandchildren, a sister Wilda Gould of Elizabeth City, NC, along with several nephews. There will be no calling hours. East Ryegate, VT - Carol Ann DeMers
....show, 82, of Manchester Drive, died on Saturday, December 20, 2014 at the Grafton County Nursing Home, North Haverhill, NH, following a period of failing health. Carol was born in Worcester, MA on November 1, 1932, to Axel and Bernice (Gineikis) Gunnard. She was a graduate of North High School, Class of 1951, in Worcester. On November 26, 1955, she married Ernest W. DeMers. Following high school she did clerical work at an insurance company. In 1975, Carol graduated from the University of Rhode Island with her BS Degree in Food and Nutrition and remained an avid student of this. Following graduation, she went to work for Providence Gas Company. Following her time at Providence Gas, she worked with her husband at H&H Machine and Tool Company in Forestdale, RI. Carol and Ernest began building their home in East Ryegate in 1985 and became permanent residents in 1995, having moved from Cumberland, RI. She was a member of the Ryegate Corner Presbyterian Church. She and Ernest were active square dancers, belonging to the Country Corner Squares of Lyndonville, VT and the Totem Twirlers in Rhode Island. When traveling, they would join square dance groups around the country. They traveled extensively across the country in their motor home. They visited six of the seven continents, including going above the Arctic Circle and below the Antarctic Circle. Carol loved nature and being outdoors. She participated in bicycle tours with their Rhode Island friends via Vermont Bike Tours, played tennis and belonged to a club in Rhode Island, swam with the Aquamaids in Worcester, and cross-country skied in the winter. Carol was always willing to give of her time in assisting others. She was predeceased by a son, Ernest Peter DeMers on December 7, 2001. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Ernest W. DeMers of East Ryegate; a daughter, Lisa Boss and husband Earl of Cumberland, RI; three grandchildren, Kevin Boss of St. Petersburg, FL, and Elizabeth and Samantha DeMers, both of South Carolina; three brothers, Russell Gunnard of Lake Wylie, SC, Bruce Gunnard, and Mark Gunnard of Holden, MA; and several nieces and nephews. Orford, NH - Phyllis Louise Taylor
....show, 92, of Indian Pond Road and formerly of Peacham, VT, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, December 23, 2014, surrounded by her loving family. Phyllis was born on November 30, 1922, in Haverhill, NH, a daughter of Byron and Nellie (Vancour) Roystan. She married Elmer Lloyd Taylor on April 10, 1943. They lived on the family farm in Peacham until 1966 when they moved to the farm in Orford. She was a homemaker doing multiple jobs while raising their fourteen children including gardening, canning, sewing, berry picking, quilting, making root beer, and fixing puzzles. She made donuts for the Orford Flea Market. While living in Orford, Phyllis did housecleaning. She enjoyed her Sunday rides with the family, sitting in her easy chair watching the birds and keeping a watchful eye on any activity happening outside her kitchen window. Her favorite TV show was Across the Fence and she loved ordering recipes from them. Her focus in life was all about her family, including annual family reunions. Phyllis was predeceased by her husband of 44 years, Elmer Taylor; her parents, Byron and Nellie Roystan; her sisters, Mary, Della, Nellie and Marion; and her brothers, James, Burt, and Byron Jr. (Joe). She is survived by her daughters, Dorothy Garrett of Lisbon, NH, Muriel Marsh of Orford, Susan Pike and husband Joe of Fairlee, VT, Grita Taylor and Mike Poole of Pike, NH, Linda Gordon and husband Jeff of Orford, and Marie Manning and husband David of Swanton, VT; her sons, Elmer Taylor, Jr. and Joyce Brown of Mansfield, CT, Bruce Taylor, Ronald Taylor and wife Mary, Harold Taylor and wife Theresa, Larry Taylor and wife Susan, Walter Taylor and wife Gloria, all of Orford, Homer Taylor and Jane Santaw of Pike, Dennis Taylor and wife Dawn of Newbury, VT; 28 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren; her sisters, Louise Sanborn of Coventry, CT, Emma Bean of Peacham, and Arlene Stuart of Monroe, NH; and many nieces and nephews. Groton, VT Ralph Eugene Carpenter
....show, 80, died Friday, December 26, 2014, at the St. Johnsbury, VT Health & Rehab Center following a period of failing health. He was born on July 26, 1934 in Newbury, VT, a son of Eugene and Dorothy (Lamphere) Carpenter. Ralph was a truck driver for over 50 years. He started driving for the former Plymwood Furniture Company in Lisbon, NH. Ralph later drove for Decato Brothers Trucking Company in Lebanon, NH for over 40 years. He later drove part time for Irwin Perrin in Barton, VT hauling Ethan Allen Furniture. Following retirement Ralph could be seen at numerous auctions in the area, buying tools and selling them at local flea markets. One of Ralph s real passions was dancing. He loved dancing with his girls at Frye s Barn in Danville, VT and the other dance halls in the area. Ralph married the former Phyllis Williams on March 31, 1955. He was predeceased by a sister, Betty White and a brother, Dale Carpenter. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Phyllis Carpenter of Groton; five children, Maureen Mosher and husband Steve of Barnet, VT, Shelley Williams of Monroe, NH, Rhonda Lakin and husband Fred of South Ryegate, VT, Kim Longmoore and husband David of Newbury, VT, and Shawn Carpenter of Monroe, NH; 11 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy Labbe and husband Emile of Southington, CT; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. There will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be in the spring in the Groton Village Cemetery.
