John spent a long and distinguished career as a professor of psychology. After earning his PhD in psychology from The New School for Social Research in 1959, he went on to teach, first at Yeshiva University and then Rutgers University in Newark, New Jersey, starting in 1967. His teaching career with Rutgers lasted more than three decades. As a professor and researcher, he contributed important theory and research to psychology in the areas of memory and perception.

These families included the Feffers, the Hansens, and the Rocks. John and Joanne first stayed in the area in the 1960s as guests of the Rodgers Farm (now known as the Rodgers Country Inn) in West Glover, and then bought the nearby home where the family spent many glorious summers. After he and Joanne decided to brave the Vermont winters and move here year-round, neither expressed a moment of regret about that decision.
John thoroughly enjoyed playing with area bands, something that helped keep him going after losing Joanne. He was known to share his love of music by giving instruments to friends and acquaintances, not for any special occasion but simply because he felt like it.
Johns family and friends will miss him dearly. ....show of Enfield, Connecticut, died on July 1, 2013, at Johnson Memorial Hospital, in Stafford, Connecticut.
Born in New Britain, Connecticut, and raised in the Elmwood section of West Hartford, Connecticut, he was the youngest of six children of Merle E. Sr. and Beatrice Crouse.
A corporal in the U.S. Army, he was a veteran of the Korean War. A very proud patriot, he and his 67 Mustang were familiar fixtures for decades in the town of Enfields Memorial Day parade, the Fourth of July parade, and the Veterans Day parade. He later started his own business, Merles Mobile Home Repair Service.
A skilled craftsman, he built the recreation room, the three-car garage, and the wrap-around covered porch at the familys Enfield home. He built many decks, picnic tables and made shelving for his childrens homes. He could fix anything from electrical, plumbing, and HVAC problems, to repairing vehicles and lawnmowers.
His workshop in the garage was neat and orderly, with his tools laid out like those on a surgery tray. He even installed a drain into the garages sloping floor so he could wash vehicles year-round. He thoroughly enjoyed just going for a ride, or going out for breakfast with his longtime friends, Leo, Howie and Delbert, hanging out Thursday evenings with his antique car show buddies, and perusing the local auction houses for treasures.
To say he will be missed by his family and his many friends is an understatement. He indeed broke the mold.

He spent the remainder of his career as a businessman with the former Fedeles grocery store, and became an iconic member of both the store and the community. He was a member of St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church and served as a longtime member of the zoning board.
Mr. Lemieux enjoyed the simple necessities of life, and his best days were spent working hard, sharing conversation with friends over a cup of coffee, and returning home to his wife, affectionately called ma. He will be best remembered for his easygoing nature, kind heart, and wonderful stories. He had an inquisitive nature and a genuine interest in others, and his sincere interest and ability to immediately put others at ease earned him a multitude of friendships, and a great deal of respect from those who had the pleasure to know him. His place at the table will be greatly missed by all.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Liz; his son Dana and his wife, Maureen, of Harvard, Massachusetts; his daughter Deanna Jannace and her husband, Jim, of Rangely, Maine; his grandchildren: Brendan and Nicole Lemieux, and Daren and Olivia Jannace; and by his siblings: Bernard and his wife, Lilianne, of Essex Junction, and Lorraine Elmore of Newport, Jeanne Whalen and her husband, Bill, of Illinois, John and his wife, Dottie, of Severna Park, Maryland, Joseph and his wife, Margaret, of Georgia, Andrea Cate and her husband, Richard, of Burlington, Antoinette Ingalls and her husband, Bill, of Irasburg, and Luke of California. With great sadness I read of
Dick Hodge
....show s passing on June 27, 2013. Admittedly, at the age of 89, he had lived a very productive life, and death is part of living. However, the pain it causes is real and friends and family must endure it.
My memory of Dick is mostly through the Freemasons, although I think he was active with Boy Scout Troop #3, in Newport, when my sons were members there. To them, he was the old man that was fun and easy to talk to.
Whenever I would go to a Masonic meeting, in Newport, in Barton for the Royal Arche, and other lodges in District #10, nine times out of ten Dick was there. And you could count on a big smile and a firm handshake. You could tell he was genuinely glad to see you.
Dick was active during the meetings. If there was an issue he supported, you knew right off. If there was an issue he didnt support, you really knew it just as fast.
Most importantly, if you needed help with any Masonic project, Dick was there to help, with no reservation at all. He had served Memphremagog Lodge #65, in Newport, twice as worshipful master. Knowing that he had sat in the hot seat, he was one of the first people I would talk with concerning issues when I served as district deputy grand master of District 10. I knew that his advice would be sound and for the best interest of Freemasonry, even if I didnt like the advice at the time. Given time, his advice was always correct.
In the second half of the master mason degree, the most sublime degree in Freemasonry, there are parts to be played, and Dick and I would always be the sea captain and the wayfaring man. He loved every minute of the part, but mostly he loved the idea that yet another young man had chosen to better himself and his life by joining Freemasonry.
Well, Captain, all I can say is, well done. Canada is better off because of your life. The United States is better off because of your life. And certainly Freemasonry is far better because of you.
Your loving wife, Irene, daughter Faye Ann, and son Christopher, and your grandchildren, can all take great pride in the legacy you leave for us. It will cause the pain to be just a little less for them. And your brother Masons can be happy with the fact that you were with us.
Rest easy, my friend. You are now in the arms of the great architect of the Universe. So mote it be.

Clarice Orene (Sprouse) Dickinson
....show of Irasburg died peacefully on July 2, 2013.
She was born on December 31, 1926, in Louisa, Virginia, to Richard and Isalene Sprouse. Upon graduation from high school, she moved to the big city of Richmond to seek employment. What she found was the love of her life, Wayne Dickinson. They married after a six-week courtship; a marriage that lasted 52 years, ending at Mr. Dickinsons death in 1999. Mrs. and Mr. Dickinson were blessed with two children, Steve and Cheryl. She was also predeceased by her son, Steve, in 1994.
One of Mrs. Dickinsons greatest gifts was her ability to form deep and lasting friendships. This served her well since Mr. Dickinsons career as an aeronautical engineer took them to many places across the country. She lived a deeply spiritual life and grounded herself in the local churches she encountered in her travels. She served these congregations in many capacities, including becoming the first female Elder in the Mt. Healthy Christian Church in Cincinnati, Ohio.
After Mr. Dickinsons death, she moved to Vermont in 2000 to be near her family, Cheryl and Tom Stelter of Irasburg. She made many friends and was active in the VFW Ladies Auxiliary in Barton, the Barton Library Club and the Barton and Orleans senior centers. She was an active member of the Irasburg United Church, serving on several committees. Many remember her friendly smile as she sold quilt raffle tickets for the Irasburg Church Fair.
