Ronald Romeo Marandola

He was born on August 7, 1948, in Orleans, the son of Leo and Sylvaine (Perron) Marandola.
During his lifetime, he was an electrician. He entered the United States Army in 1969 and served his country during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged in 1971. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #798, American Legion Post #21, and the Eagles #5329.
His hobbies included fishing, bowling, and playing pool and darts.
He is survived by his nieces and nephews; his ex-wife Cora Marandola; and by his sisters-in-law: Cheryl and Ruby Marandola, both of Newport.
He was predeceased by two brothers: Warner Marandola and Richard Marandola, both in 2006.
Services will be held at the convenience of the family.

George Allen Nelson
....show , 79, of Albany died on June 20, 2013, at the Bel-Aire Nursing Home in Newport.
He was born on February 22, 1934, in Albany, the son of Allen and Marion (Hoyt) Nelson. On August 21, 1957, he married Janet Allen, who survives him. He graduated from Orleans High School in 1952.
During his lifetime, he was a carpenter. He helped build the Bel-Aire Nursing Home in Newport, while employed for Malcolm Pickel. He also built the Albany General Store in Albany. His biggest project was building a large dairy barn for Connie Sherwin in Albany. He later purchased the farm in 1971 and farmed until 1978. He was then employed for 20 years for E.F. Wall General Contractor of Barre, until he retired in 1995. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, woodworking, building furniture, and custom cabinetry. He also enjoyed mowing the lawn and working in his blueberry patch.
He is survived by his wife Janet Nelson of Albany; his children: Scott Nelson of Irasburg, Sonya Kittredge and her husband, Paul, of Albany, Shelly Morey and her husband, Michael, of Newport, and Stacey Nelson of Essex Junction; his grandchildren: Scott Nelson II and his wife, Tasha, Benjamin Kittredge and his wife, Molly, Matthew Kittredge and Jenna Morey; his great-grandchildren: Maya and Trent; his brothers: Carl Tom Nelson of Irasburg, and Roger Nelson and his wife, Bea, of Derby; his sister Ruth Lamotte of Mossy Rock, Washington; his sisters-in-law: Sheryl Martin and Patty Martin, and their families, all of Craftsbury, and Marion Allen and her family of Burlington; a special niece, Joanne Johnson, and her husband, Gary, of Newport; and by several other nieces and nephews.

Gloria Jean Stevens

She was born on June 7, 1941, in Albany, the daughter of Douglas and Sylvia (Sanville) Niles, who predeceased her. On November 25, 1959, she married Bertram Smith Stevens, who survives her.
She loved traveling to Maine with her husband and two dogs. She loved being with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed listening to music, square dancing, bird watching, and camping.
She is survived by her husband Bertram Stevens of Portland; her children: Howard Stevens of Raleigh, North Carolina, Keith Stevens and his wife, Bethany, of Lisbon, New Hampshire, and Valerie Dykes and her husband, Quanah, of Portland; her grandchildren: Shawn Griffin and Jessica of Spencerport, New York, Cassandra Akey and her husband, Dean, of Woodsville, New Hampshire, Joshua Stevens of St. Johnsbury, Jessica Davis of Littleton, New Hampshire, and Lee Dykes and his wife, Alyssa, of Portland; her great-grandchildren: Morgan Griffin, T.J. Twing, and Annabelle Stevens; her sisters and brothers: Robert Niles and his wife, Irene, of East Charleston, Virginia Cochran and her husband, Carlton, of Morrisville, Sandy Gutzman and her husband, Walter, of Craftsbury, Shirley Kibbee and her husband, John, of Hardwick, Beverly Nadeau of Essex Junction, and Ronnie Niles of Albany; many nieces and nephews; many great-nieces and great-nephews; and by her favorite aunt Mary Ingalls.

Marion Margaret Marie Watson

She was born on January 7, 1934, in Newport, a daughter of Orloff and Mildred (Daniels) Watson.
She lived all of her life in Newport. Among her hobbies, she enjoyed bowling, dancing, listening to country music, wearing her high heel shoes, and visiting her friends at the VFW. She loved everyone.
She is survived by her sisters: Henrietta Cromwell of Newport, and Shirley Elliott of Holyoke, Massachusetts; and by several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her siblings: Albert, Edward, and Orloff Watson, Margaret Shattuck, Helena Domina, and Bettie Elliott.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 29, at St. Marys Cemetery in Newport. A luncheon will follow at the VFW, 141 Central Street in Newport.

He was born on April 23, 1932, in Derby, a son of Ella (Judd) and Harold Willey Sr.
He served with the U.S. Marine Corps and later worked for Blow and Cote in Morrisville as an equipment operator for 39 years.
Mr. Willey was an avid Red Sox fan. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and riding around with his companion of 12 years, Blondie, his shepherd mix dog.
He is survived by his children: Shirleen Willey of Evansville, Mark Willey and his wife, Cindy, of Barton, April Touchette and her husband, Andrew, of North Troy, Angela Willey of Lowell, and Eric Willey of Lowell; several grandchildren including Brendon and Devon Cote and Bryce and Tyler Touchette; several great-grandchildren; a sister, Marilyn Curtis, and her husband, William, of Newport; five brothers: Paul Willey and his wife, Mary, of North Adams, Massachusetts, Wayne Willey and his wife, Patricia, of Florida, Donald Willey of Massachusetts, Roger Willey and his wife, Deborah, of Lowell, and Brent Willey and his wife, Judy, of Troy; and by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was predeceased by four brothers: Bruce, Dale, David, and Larry.

She was born on January 21, 1962, in Newport, beloved daughter of Frances (Robbins) Taylor and the late Gardner O. Taylor. On October 1, 1983, she married Roland Garneau, who survives her.
She was a cashier for the Irving Mini Mart in Derby Line. Among her hobbies, she enjoyed watching birds in her flower garden, doing crafts, scrap booking, watching NASCAR, and cheering for her favorite driver, Carl Edwards. She loved the company of her dog, Moose. She was always smiling, friendly, and absolutely loved visiting with her family and friends. She especially enjoyed time spent playing with her granddaughter, Olivia.
She was certainly a stranger to no one. She will be very dearly missed by all of her family and friends, near and far.
She is survived by her husband Roland Garneau of Derby Line; their children: Matthew Garneau and his wife, Jennifer, of Derby, and Ashley Garneau of Derby Line; her granddaughter Olivia Garneau of Derby; her mother Frances Taylor of Derby; her sisters and brothers: Scott Taylor of Derby, Ronald Taylor and his wife, Lynn, of Cookeville, Tennessee, Judy Parker and her husband, Keith, of Greer, South Carolina, Susan Call and her husband, David, of Meadville, Pennsylvania, Patricia Gelo and her husband, Dennis, of Derby; and by many nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

She was born in LaPraierie, Quebec, Canada, to the late Dalma and Marie (Moquin) Metras. She has been a resident of Rensselaer for 58 years. She was a homemaker and was a communicant of St. John The Evangelist and St. Joseph Church in Rensselaer, attending St. Johns Church for many years. She was a member of St. Johns Rosary Altar Society.
She was the wife of the late Roger J. Gaboriault; mother of Paul Gaboriault and Marie Ann (Jessie) Holloway, both of Rensselaer; grandmother of Christopher Halloway; and sister of Ann Nichols, Eva Domijan, Jeanne Fortin, Theresa Metras, Lucie Metras, Rita Lantagne, Alice Metras McKinney, the late Rene Metras, Moise Metras, Irene Innie, Madeline Goodsell and Onil Metras. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held in Rensselaer.
Interment was in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in East Greenbush, New York.

Beryl J. Prive
....show , 86, of Newport died on her birthday, June 17, 2013, with her family by her side.
She was born on June 17, 1927, in Newport, the daughter of Charles and Mabel (Cole) Webb. On September 5, 1949, she married Raymond Prive, who predeceased her.
She was a full-time wife, mother, and homemaker. She was a member of the Cheerful Card Company. She was always taking care of family and relatives and was a great cook and baker, especially her homemade baked beans, homemade pickles and pies.
She had a lot of hobbies that she enjoyed through the years. She was a big salt and pepper collector and loved collecting from each state and in Germany, with some help from her niece who was traveling throughout the different states. She enjoyed playing Bingo at the Barton and Lyndonville fairs, picking strawberries and blueberries, going to many yard sales, putting puzzles together as well as doing crossword puzzles, knitting and crocheting, painting pictures, and most of all walking on her street with the Bobbin Mill girls over the years. The Bobbin Mill girls were Beryl, Teresa (Lague) Coburn and Pauline Bouffard.
She is survived by her children: Judith Gilman and her husband, Edward, of Newport, and Gary Prive of Newport; her sister Blendine Vance and her husband, Francis, of St. Johnsbury; her brothers- and sisters-in-law: Arthur Prive and his wife, Jeanne, of Newport, Jeannette Thomas of West Haven, Connecticut, and Dorothy Prive of Gulfport, Mississippi; and by many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by special friends: Pauline Bouffard and Marcella Gosselin.
She was predeceased by a brother, Arnold Webb; and by her brothers- and sisters-in-law: Alberta and Rose Lamoureux, Cecile A. Prive, Cecile D. Prive and Martha Prive, Hector, Leo, Armand and Richard Prive, and Roland and Gerry Lamoureux.

Dolores Carrier Reid

She was born on July 20, 1929, in Cookshire, Quebec, the daughter of Joseph Carrier and Lea Roy. She was the youngest in a family of nine children, all of whom predeceased her, along with their spouses: Helena and her husband, Alfred Beauregard, Louis, Sr. Lucienne of the Soeurs de la Charité de St. Louis-Lévis (SCSL), Sr. Marie-Reine of the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary, Sr. Noella Carrier SCSL, Alphonse and his wife, Noella Turcotte, Jeanne and her husband, Fernand Bolduc, and Laurian and his wife, Therese Grenier.
She leaves behind her daughter Amy Bombard and her husband, Dave, of Underhill; her nephews, whom she thought of as sons: Michel Bolduc and his wife, Elaine, of Universal City, Texas, Frank Bolduc of Miami Beach, Florida, and David Bolduc and his wife, Louise, of Orleans; her cousin Bernadette Carrier Brault of Cookshire; and many nephews, nieces, cousins, relatives, and friends.
She lost her mother at the age of 11. She pursued a nursing degree and graduated from Hotel-Dieu in Sherbrooke, Quebec. She worked with Dr. Terrence Gage at the Orleans Medical Clinic for ten years, where she made many friends in the community. She then went on to join the U.S. Army as a captain and served in Vietnam, where she worked at numerous bases caring for wounded soldiers. She was very proud of her service and contributions to helping her fellow man.
She met her husband, Jim, in Spain and they were married on May 7, 1970. They moved to London, England, and then to Ayr-Ayreshire, where they made their home and where she continued nursing until her retirement. Her life was an inspiration to all whom she touched, both in sadness and in joy.
She really appreciated all those who were able to visit her in the last few years of her illness; in particular, her daughter Amy and her nephew Frank, and her niece Madeleine Carrier.
Gregory Alan Rossier
....show , 48, died on April 23, 2013, in Indiana, following a lengthy illness.
Born on April 13, 1965, he was the second child of the late Reverend Dr. Bernard L. Rossier Jr. and Avis (Taylor) Rossier.
He attended schools in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Arizona, traveling with the family as his father traveled with his ministry wherever he felt the call.
He worked in many places as a chef, and later worked in a parts store. At the time of his death, he had been employed by FedEx.
He is survived by his stepmother, Eileen Rossier, who came into his life when he was just five years old. He is also survived by his brother Michael; his sister Wendy; and by his nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, many cousins, and by a great-niece.
He was predeceased by his mother and father; his grandmother and grandfather Burdick (Willard Gus and Marjorie); his grandfather and grandmother Taylor; and by his grandfather Bernard L. Rossier Sr.
Private family graveside services will be held at the Burdick/Rossier family lot in the Pleasantview Cemetery in Orleans, at a later date, at the convenience of the family.
Judy Elaine Sawyer

She was born on May 13, 1950, in North Conway, New Hampshire, the daughter of Ralph and Almira (Frost) Stone. On September 14, 1968, she married Raymond A. Sawyer Sr., who survives her.
She graduated from North Country Union High School in 1997 and later from Johnson State College with a bachelor of liberal arts degree.
Her interests were cooking and family genealogy.
She is survived by her husband Raymond A. Sawyer Sr. of Newport; her sons: Raymond A. Sawyer Jr. of Hardwick, and Tony Ray Sawyer and his wife, Kerri, of Weare, New Hampshire; four grandchildren: Megan, Ryan, Jacob, and Krista; her brother George R. Stone and his wife, Shirley, of Conway, New Hampshire; her sister Raylene Gould and her husband, Ron, of Wakefield, New Hampshire; and by four nieces and nephews.

Arnold A. "Arnie" Sheltra
....show , 76, of East Hampstead, New Hampshire, died on June 4, 2013, at Parkland Hospital in Derry, New Hampshire, from complications of myasthenia gravis.
He was born on September 16, 1936, in Irasburg, son of the late Howard and Eleanor (Lathe) Sheltra.
He was raised and educated in Newport, graduating from Newport High School in the Class of 1952. After graduation, he worked for five years as a milk tester for the United Farmers Creamery in Troy.
He served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1958 until the end of the Cuban missile crisis in 1962, earning his drafting degree in the U.S. Navy, receiving an honorable discharge. He then worked as a drafting engineer at Western Electric/Bell Labs in North Andover, Massachusetts, for 32 years, retiring in 1996.
He was very involved with scouting for over 40 years. He served as Cub Master for Pack #33 for over ten years, and as the district commissioner and commissioner for the remaining years. He was also involved with Troop #33 in Hampstead, New Hampshire, and helped his son David and his grandson Zachary achieve the proud honor of Eagle Scout. David and Zachary were the first father and son ever to become Eagle Scouts in Troop #33. He found great pleasure in teaching scouts in their quest to earn merit badges. In his retirement, he was able to spend more time in scouting. He also enjoyed camping and loved all sports.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Alma (Gagne) formerly of Troy. One of his favorite jokes is that he took Alma straight off the farm from Troy. He is also survived by his son David Sheltra and his wife, Carol, of Brentwood, New Hampshire; his grandsons: Timothy Sheltra of Steamboat, Colorado, and Zachary Sheltra of East Hampstead, New Hampshire; his brother Stanley Sheltra of East Hampstead; his camping buddy and sister-in-law Gabrielle (Gagne) Page of Berwick, Maine, as well as her sisters: Margaret Meunier and Marie and her husband, Roger Raboin, all of Newport Center; his brother-in-law Fernand Gagne of Wales, Massachusetts; and by many nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, July 12, at 11 a.m., at the Newport Center Cemetery, with the Reverend George Lawson officiating.

Bernard Francis Stone
....show , 89, died suddenly on June 10, 2013, at the Windemere Nursing and Rehabilitatin Center at the Marthas Vineyard Hospital in Oak Bluffs, Massachusetts.
To all who knew him, he will be remembered as larger than life in every sense of the word. A gregarious man, he loved to laugh and made anyone he met feel like they were the most interesting person in the world.
An avid gardener, sharp crossword player, wonderful dancer, expert whistler and an okay poet, he lived life to its fullest. He felt blessed to be in such great care at Windemere, where all the female staff were the most beautiful women in the world and they treated him like a king.
Born in Richford to Robert Hazen and Grace Carey Stone in 1924, he was the youngest of four children. Living on a farm amongst the green mountains of Vermont, he had an ideal childhood. As a teen he became a downhill ski racer, which led him to serve as a ski trooper in the elite 110th Mountain Division in World War II. He later attended Northeastern University, where he received his degree in engineering.
As a civil engineer, he worked next to Igor Sikorsky building helicopters in Bridgeport, Connecticut, then became the town engineer in Weathersfield, Connecticut, then eventually started his own business, Bernard F. Stone and Associates, in Salem, Connecticut.
He married his bosss daughter, Charlotte Mary Judd, during the construction of the Union Village Dam in Vermont in 1948. They had three children: John Carey, Charles Edward and Sandra Lee Stone.
He is survived by his son Charles Stone; his daughter Sandra Stone-Benjamin; his son-in-law Michael Benjamin; and by his grandchildren: Charlotte Rose and Samuel Stone Benjamin.
He was predeceased by his wife, Charlotte; his son John; his sisters: Carol Clark and Shirley Palone; and by his brother Bill Stone.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, June 25, at the Haynes Room at Jay Peak Resort in Jay at 5:30 p.m.

She was born in Barton. She moved to Akron, Ohio, in 1951.
Mrs. Carson trained as a cadet nurse at Mary Hitchcock Hospital in Hanover, New Hampshire, on a scholarship from U.S. Health Service, a division of Nurse Education. She worked at the Akron City Hospital as a registered nurse. She was a member of the chapel.
She is survived by her husband Bruce I. Carson; her daughter Christine A. Lowry and her husband, Robert; her son Alan F. Carson; her sister Harriet Gaffney and her husband, Roy; and by a brother, William Fisk and his wife, Dorothy, both of Vermont. She is also survived by her grandchildren: David and his wife, Jennifer, Chalan, Michael and his wife, Kristen, Elizabeth, and Ryan; and by three great-grandchildren: Kai, Elsa, and Rocco.

Ann Marie Cummings

She was born on Sunday, May 22, 1932, to the late Julia Fogarty Cummings and John Cummings.
As an educator for the New York City Board of Education, Ms. Cummings was passionate about making a difference in the lives of students and colleagues. Her work of many years has touched many lives. As her nephew-in-law Matthew Kratz recently wrote, Ann is a blessing to everyone she meets, and an inspiration to all on how to live, celebrate and love. Those she leaves behind will continue to embrace the legacy of her joy of life.
A superlative storyteller, a kind, generous and thoughtful person, some of her favorite things included: children, music, any celebration, Willoughby Lake, and time spent laughing with loved ones. She will be dearly missed.
She is survived by her sister Julia Cummings Murphy; her dear friend Dolores Grieco; her sister-in-law Marylou Cummings; ten nieces and nephews; 11 grand-nieces and -nephews; and lifelong friends.

She was born on May 29, 1923, in Irasburg, a daughter of Arie and Myra (Denton) Kennison. She was married to Howard Damon, who predeceased her in 1995.
She enjoyed traveling all over the world. She liked to cook, knit for friends and family, do puzzles, play cards, and read.
She was a strong believer in keeping active and volunteered for numerous community activities, which helped her to live a long productive life.
She is survived by her children: Terry Damon and his wife, Bonnie, of Newburg, Maryland, Marvin (Pete) Damon and his wife, Susan, of Vero Beach, Florida, and Karl Damon and his wife, Jo-Ann, of East Barre; her grandchildren: Ann Marie Damon, Jennifer Luzier and her husband, David, Lindsay Damon-Cox, Amanda and Joe Starr, Adam Damon, Crystal Hudson and her husband, Steven, Howard Damon, Gillian Hoops, and Hatteras Hoops and his wife, Sheila; 12 great-grandchildren; and by a special, daughter-like niece, Elizabeth Cook, and her husband, Larry, and their children: Jody Russell and her husband, Brian, and Kim Kelly and her husband, Brian.
She was predeceased by two daughters: Nola Damon in 1960, and Lorilei Hoops in 2005.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, August 5, at a time to be specified later, at the Irasburg Cemetery, with the Reverend Evelyn Coup officiating. This will be followed by a celebration of the life of Ruth Damon at Pageant Park in Barton for family and friends.

He was born on December 29, 1935, in Sheffield, the son of Walter and Emma (Chamberlain) Degreenia. He farmed and logged various places in Vermont and New Hampshire, and retired as a self-employed carpenter. His hobbies included making woodcrafts, lawn ornaments, hunting and fishing. He was a veteran of the United States Army where he served in the New Hampshire National Guard. He was a member of the American Legion Post #76 of Barton.
He is survived by his longtime companion Wanda Reed of Glover; his children: Terry Degreenia and his companion, Crystal Willis, of Brownington, Cathy Burns and her husband, Bill, of Florida, Carol Linscott and her companion, Richard, of Union, Maine, Walter Degreenia and his wife, Gail, of Union, Darrell Degreenia of Union, and Darren Degreenia and his wife, Gail, of Sheffield; 14 grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; his sister and brothers: Leslie Degreenia and his wife, Patricia, of Northwood, New Hampshire, Phil Degreenia Sr. and his wife, Patty, of Sheffield, Jason Degreenia and his wife, Jossie, of Sheffield, and Georgia Newland and her husband, Harold, of Sheffield; his step-brothers: Al MacEachern and his wife, Lise, of Barton, and Kevin Hill of Glover; his step-sister Barbara Stewart of Glover; and by numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Lynn Degreenia; and by his siblings: Wallace, Harold, Ronnie, and George.
A celebration of his life was held on June 8 in Glover. Interment took place in Westlook Cemetery in Glover.

She was born on October 12, 1922, in Carman, Manitoba, Canada, daughter of Charles and Grace (Neal) Wolcott of West Charleston.
After graduation from Derby Academy, she married Lawrence Thompson and moved to Marine Corp bases in North Carolina and Virginia. After her husbands honorable discharge from the service, she enjoyed many years in Orleans, and then Connecticut, before returning to Vermont. She and her husband lived many winters in Florida and summers in Vermont while taking time to travel the country and abroad. She was an avid bridge player and enjoyed golf, antiquing, and gardening.
She is survived by her daughter Cynthia Paula and her husband, Ron, of Newport; her son Lawrence (Butch) Thompson Jr. and his wife, Anne, of Derby; and by four grandchildren: John Scott, and his wife, Coleen, and great-granddaughter Eva Noelle of San Diego, California, James Scott, and his wife, Alicia, and great-great-granddaughter Ariel of Salinas, California, Raymond Thompson and his wife, Susan (Maxwell) of Derby, and Jeffrey Thompson and his wife, Maya, and great-grandson Kai and great-granddaughter Annabel of Burlington; and by nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Lawrence; her parents, Charles and Grace Wolcott; her sister Ina Worth and her husband, Delmond (Speed); her brother William (Billy) Wolcott; and by her son Johnny Reilly.

Madeline Ruth Greaves Gebbie
....show , 93, a long time Greensboro resident, died peacefully on June 8, 2013, at the Copley Hospital in Morrisville, with her family at her bedside.
She was born on November 13, 1919, in St. Johnsbury, the daughter of the late Clifton and Dorris (Barrows) Greaves. She graduated from Peoples Academy in Morrisville as Valedictorian of the Class of 1937. She continued her education at the University of Vermont, graduating in the Class of 1941, also as Valedictorian, with a Bachelor of Science degree in agriculture. She was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega Sorority and was chosen to join Omicron NU, the National Home Economics Society, in her senior year.
On June 28, 1944, she married Donald McLellan Gebbie in Morrisville. They made their home in Greensboro and in 1952 they purchased the Gebbie Dairy Farm, which they owned and operated for more than 28 years.
Mrs. Gebbie was a teacher at Peoples Academy in Morrisville and later at Greensboro High School where she taught many subjects including: home economics, English, French, Latin, chemistry, U.S. history and music. She was a connoisseur of the English language.
She was a member of the Greensboro United Church of Christ, where she served as organist and chair of the cradle roll. She was also a member of the Caspian Lake Grange, Hazen Road Homemakers, Retired Teachers Association, and she served as a volunteer at the Waterbury State Hospital Remembrance Project, making sure no patient was forgotten. She was a 4-H leader and librarian, organizing the library into the Dewey Decimal System, and director of the Kazoo Band for eight years. They entertained at many functions including the Greensboro Nursing Home. She was a correspondent for the Hardwick Gazette. She was given the Governors Award for Outstanding Community Service in 1991 and the Greensboro Award in 1992 for 70 years of service. She loved spending time with her family, the annual sugar-on-snow parties, and the Gebbie Ski tow, which has been running since 1960.
Survivors include a son, Peter Gebbie, and his wife, Sandra, of Greensboro; two daughters: Patricia Mercier of Greensboro, and Susan Locke and her husband, Wilbur, of East Albany; a daughter-in-law, Aileen Gebbie, of Greensboro; 12 grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren and two on the way; two sisters: Betty Ingalls of Hyde Park, and Mary Jane McCuin of Virginia; a sister-in-law, Betty Spring, of Chelmsford, Massachusetts; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her husband Donald in 1980; a son, Donald M. Gebbie II, in 2003; two brothers: Mahlon Greaves and Perley M. Greaves; and by a son-in-law, Donald Mercier.
Visiting hours will be held on Saturday, June 15, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Northern Vermont Funeral Home in Hardwick. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, June16, at the Greensboro United Church of Christ, with the Reverend Anthony Acheson and the Reverend Alden Launer officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of her family in the Mitchell-McLaren Cemetery in Greensboro.

Shirley J. Nutting
....show died on May 27, 2013. She was born on February 12, 1940.
Ms. Nutting worked for a time at the American Optical Company in Brattleboro, and lived in West Chesterfield, New Hampshire. After the company closed in 1981, she moved back to Enosburg.
She liked to visit Glover in the summer.
Funeral services were held on May 31 in Enosburg Falls. Her final resting place is the Enosburg Center Cemetery.
Joyce E. (Gibney) Paradis

She was born on October 2, 1943, in Newport City, the daughter of Grace (Sanville) Gibney and Malcolm E. Gibney. Her early years were spent in North Troy. She lived for years in the Kittery, Maine, and Portsmouth, New Hampshire, area.
Survivors include her daughters: Deborah Judkins of St. Johnsbury, and Cindy Carmen of Laconia, New Hampshire; her son Steve Carmen, of Clinton, Utah; her brother Jake Gibney of Bath, New Hampshire; her sister Betty Currie of Milford, Massachusetts; ten grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; four step-grandchildren; and 14 step-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her daughters: Roxie Carmen and Diane Mussen; her brothers: Malcolm Jr. and Wendell Sanville; and her sister Linda Lemieux.
Graveside services were held on June 8 in North Troy.
Susan Jane Swift

She was born in Enosburg on June 28, 1917, the daughter of Reverend Herbert and Pearl (Kinney) Campbell.
She was a resident of the Maple Lane Nursing Home in Barton and cared for by the dedicated staff for the past several years. She lived in several Vermont towns while growing up and went to high school in Barre. She later earned her degree as a registered nurse, and was employed at the Barre City Hospital in Barre. She then served as a nurse at Fort Devens in Massachusetts, and as 2nd Lieutenant at Fort Dix, New Jersey, where she performed all general nursing duties in a paraplegic ward, and in a neurosurgical and orthopedic ward as supervisor. She was decorated with the World War II victory medal.
After the war, she married Kenneth Swift on June 22, 1946. They moved to Glover in 1947, purchasing and operating the general store. They later purchased the Shadow Lake Pavilion dance hall and in 1963 purchased the Colonial House Nursing Home in Glover, with their friends Robert and Mazel Rogers, where Susan worked as a registered nurse. Later, they also purchased and refurbished an apartment building in Glover, again with their friends Robert and Mazel Rogers. She also loved to sing and was a member of the church choir at Glover Community Church. She was also a member of the Barre Tones Chapter of Harmony, Inc., where she sang and performed with all the members in many locations around the New England Northeast.
She is survived by her son James and his wife, Susan, of Glover; her granddaughter Sarah and her husband, Steven Humphrey; her great-grandson Jonas of Boulder, Colorado; her granddaughter Laurie and her husband, Sam Allen, of Pittsboro, North Carolina; her son-in-law Bruce Baraw of Glover; and by many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Kenneth; her daughter Donna Kay; her grandsons: Scott and Randy Neil; as well as by her sisters and brother: Margueritte, Joyce, Cora, Golda, Agatha, and Herbert.
Services will be held on Saturday, June 15, at 11 a.m., at the Glover United Church with the Reverend Evelyn Coup officiating. Interment will follow at the Westlook Cemetery in Glover, with full military honors.

He was born on October 30, 1952, in Owensboro, Kentucky, to William J. Thompson and Rose Mary (Dockmeyer) Thompson. He graduated from Owensboro Catholic High School and received his bachelors degree from Strayer University in Virginia. He was a member of the U.S. Army, and retired as a civilian employee of the U.S. Navy. He was a member of various softball umpire associations in Virginia and Maryland and held board positions, including president, treasurer and commissioner.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Paulette (Beaudry) Thompson, who grew up in Irasburg; his son Patrick and his wife, Mary, of Berryville, Virginia; and his daughter Amanda Ellerman and her husband, Michael, of Mechanicsville, Virginia; three grandsons: Zachary and Nicholas Ellerman, and Joshua Thompson; his brother Tommy of Rockport, Indiana; two sisters: Darlene May of Utica, Kentucky and her husband, Keith, and Lynda Edwards and her husband, Danny, of Calhoun, Kentucky; and by numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was born on August 14, 1942, in Barton, the son of Frederick and Shirley (Sanders) Brown.
He was raised in Barton by his grandparents, Reta and Fred C. Brown, and attended Barton Academy. He was selected as a legislative page and served daily in his seventh grade year at the Vermont State House in Montpelier. He also attended Champlain Business College in Burlington.
He married Isabelle Menard on November 25, 1961. They owned and operated the Candlepin Restaurant, Browns Bowling Alley, and the Cave Dance Hall in Barton, and retired after 46 years in business.
He was a lifetime member of the National Arbor Day Foundation, NRA and NRA Golden Eagles Club, Ducks Unlimited, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and a member of the Orleans Masonic Lodge #55.
He loved being with his family and their many gatherings celebrating holidays and birthdays. He especially loved being with his grandchildren and attending their sporting, school and community activities. Throughout his life, he enjoyed baseball and was an avid fan of the New York Yankees. He also was a true Vermont steward of his land, planting trees, gardening, working in the woods, building stonewalls and haying the fields. He raised Hereford cows for several years and enjoyed them grazing in the fields surrounding him.
He is survived by his children: Diane Brown of Littleton, New Hampshire, Donna Perry and her husband, Anthony, of Barton, Lisa Brown and Pauline Frisina of Rye, New Hampshire, Ted Brown and his wife, Andrea, of Glover, and Carmen Brown and Jeremy Knights of Glover; his grandchildren: Hannah Brown, Parker Brown, Dayna Knights, Kelby Knights, Rylee Knights and Gabriel Frisina-Brown; and by his sisters- and brothers-in-law: Roland Menard, Rita and Bob Benoit, Denise Wilkins, Frank and Sue Menard, Patty Saum, Raymond Menard, Pierre Menard, Carol and Michael Coggio, and Pauline and Ralph Nault. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife Isabelle Brown on February 12, 2004; and by two sisters: Patricia Wheeler and Jacqueline Nattress.

He was born in North Troy on June 5, 1947, the son of Edward Caples and Beverly (Bolio) Caples.
When he was young, he joined the military then worked at Jay Peak, Hayes Ford, Ethan Allen, Butterfields, and IBM.
He married Joyce (Jones) Caples on March 23, 1968.
He loved fishing, Bingo, and playing cards.
He is survived by his wife Joyce; his two sons: Richard Caples Jr. and Roy Caples and his wife, Naomi, all of Derby; his grandchildren: Savannah and her husband, Jason Williams, Ross, Heather, Patrick, Johnny, and Nicholas; his great-grandchildren: Emmett, Wrangler, and Denim; and by his ex daughter-in-law Althea Crocker. He is also survived by his two sisters: Linda and her husband, Steve Star, of Florida, and Diane and her husband, Tim Bleau, of Essex; his brothers: Spike and his wife, Mary Caples, of Mississippi, and Chris Caples of North Dakota; and by many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by both his parents and by a brother, Kirby Caples.
Marguerite Chapdelaine

She was born on August 13, 1918, in Beebe, Quebec, the daughter of Joseph and Mabel (Langevin) Martel. On February 21, 1944, she married Rene Chapdelaine, who predeceased her in 2004.
Among her hobbies, she enjoyed working on crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, playing Bingo and watching westerns on television.
She is survived by her children: Norman Chapdelaine of St. Albans, and Raymond Chapdelaine of Stowe; three grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her brother Leo Martel; and by three sisters: Germaine Belleville, Alexandra and Antoinette.
Funeral services were held on May 31, in Newport. Interment followed in St. Marys Cemetery in Newport.
Gertrude M. Fontaine

She was born on July 9, 1922, in Newport, a daughter of Charles and Mary Ann (Gokey) Cheney. On December 29, 1947, she married Lawrence Fontaine, who survives her.
Mrs. Fontaine was postmaster for the United States Postal Service in the town of Morgan, where she retired after 12 years of service. She also worked as a telephone operator for several years in Troy.
She enjoyed cooking, much to the delight of her family and friends. She knitted 11,000 pair of mittens for charity and formerly worked on upholstery.
She and Mr. Fontaine made several trips to Florida over many years during the winter months. She was always willing to give a hand to her friends and neighbors.
She is survived by her husband Lawrence Fontaine of Derby; her children: Stephen Fontaine and his wife, Patsy, of Beecher Falls, Dennis Fontaine and his wife, Nancy, of Twin Mountain, New Hampshire, and Laurie Fontaine of Derby; her grandchildren: Melanie Walker and her husband, David, Stephen Fontaine and his wife, Lauren, Sarah Fontaine, Bryan Fontaine, and Adam Fontaine; her great-grandchildren: Jacob, Jonathan, and Jessalyn Walker, and Tyler and Gavin Fontaine; and by several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a son, Sherman Fontaine; a grandson, Matthew Fontaine; and by the following siblings: Earl Cheney, Nelson Cheney, Maynard Cheney, Edna Liberty, and Rita Berthiaume.

She was a very giving and caring person who was always ready to give anyone a hand. She was a mother who loved her children and her grandson and always treasured their time together.
She was a loving mom to her son Thomas Hall and his girlfriend, Cait Smith, of Derby, and her daughter Heather Hall and her boyfriend, AJ Stevens, of Orleans. She loved and adored her wonderful grandson, Javein. She will be deeply missed by her mother Alice Coderre of Derby; her brothers: Sherman Coderre and his wife, Michelle, and Ed Coderre and his fiancée, Shirley Lawson, of Irasburg; and by her sisters: Tealla Rodrigue and her husband, Roger, of Derby, and Trina Coderre and her fiancé, Doug LaBounty, of Lunenburg. She enjoyed sewing, reading, holidays, and birthday celebrations, and was an avid Atlanta Braves fan.
She was married to Lawrence Douglas McGavic, who predeceased her.

He was born on September 2, 1921, in Morgan, the son of Guy and Freda (Nichols) Page. On April 7, 1950, he married Dorothy White, who survives him.
He was a veteran of World War II. He was a machinist at Linton Industries in Derby Line for many years. His love was his appliance shop at his home in Derby, where he also enjoyed people coming to visit.
He was a member of the Church of God in Derby.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy Page of Derby; his son David Page of Island Pond; his brother Bruce Page of Southwick, Massachusetts; his sisters-in-law: Phyllis Page of Holland, and Anne Page of Florida; his brother-in-law Charles Moulton of Charleston; and by several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brothers: Stanley Page, Floyd Page, Andrew Page, Ronald Page who was killed in action in World War II, and Ovis Page as an infant; his sister Maxine Moulton; his half-brother Ernest Wheeler; and by his half-sister Ella Grady.

She was born on February 25, 1936, in Lowell, the daughter of Clovis and Albertine (Beausoleil) Ranville.
Mrs. Patenaude was a cook at the Holland and Derby Line elementary schools. Her hobbies included canning, knitting, gardening, cooking, baking, sewing, tole painting, and she had a precious angel collection. She was a wonderful mother and meme.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Alphonse Patenaude of Derby Line; her children: Jeanne OBryan and her husband, Mark, of Fairfax, Donald Patenaude and his wife, Cindy, of Brattleboro, Louise Wilson and her husband, Tom, of Mooers, New York, Danny Patenaude and his wife, Rhonda, of Derby, Linda Elliott and her husband, Wayne, of Essex Center, and Monique LaPlante and her husband, Arthur, of Beebe Plain; her grandchildren: Erin, Monika, Whitney, Ryan, Michael, Tyler, Taylor, Erin, Brandon, and Emma; and by her step-grandchildren: Jena, Kati and Charlee. She is also survived by her sisters: Georgette Salafia and her husband, Henry, of Massachusetts, Priscilla Boucher and her husband, Phil, of Hudson, New Hampshire, Anna Gravel and her husband, Raymond, of Wolcott, and Laurette Beasley of Florida; and by her sister-in-law Georgette Ranville of Massachusetts.
She was predeceased by her son Michael Patenaude in 1958; five brothers: Fernand, Roland, Leonard, Ivan, and Alfred Ranville; and by her brother-in-law John Beasley.
Family and friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, June 6, at the Curtis-Britch-Converse-Rushford Funeral Home, 4670 Darling Hill Road in Newport. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 7, at St. Edwards Catholic Church in Derby Line, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated. Interment will follow in St. Edwards Cemetery.

Brian J. Scully
....show of Newport Center, formerly of Colchester, died on May 29, 2013, at Fletcher-Allen Healthcare in Burlington, following a short illness.
He was born on February 8, 1946, in Long Island, New York, and was the son of William and Grace Scully.
On October 3, 1970, he married Cathleen Carroll in St. Josephs Church in New Paltz, New York.
He is survived by his wife Cathleen; his loving and faithful dog, Thunder Patrick; and by his longtime friends: Jorg and Stephanie Augie of Burlington.
He was predeceased by his parents; his father-in-law Nicholas Carroll; and by his loving dogs: Michael Gregory and Riley ORourke.
Per his wishes, there will be no calling hours. Burial will be private. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are by Boucher and Pritchard Funeral Directors.

Charles P. Sinon
....show , 77, of Meriden, Connecticut, died on May 27, 2013, after a brief illness, at the Meriden Center.
He was the beloved husband of 51 years of Carol Erardi Sinon.
He was born in Barton on November 3, 1935, the eldest son of the late Charles and Alice Pudvah Sinon, and had been a Meriden resident for many years. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force and later was employed by Pratt and Whitney. He was a former employee of Quest Diagnostics and Pro Health of Wallingford, Connecticut. He was active in the Eagles Club and enjoyed reading, attending area car shows and relaxing by the water. He enjoyed meeting people and had the gift of making them laugh.
In addition to his wife, Carol, he is survived by his sons: Scott Sinon and his companion, Elizabeth Byless, of Bristol, Connecticut, and Stephen P. Sinon of Bronx, New York; his daughter Patti A. Bene of Franklin, New Hampshire; his four grandchildren: Nicholaus and Andrew Sinon, and Brandon and Megan Bene; his sisters: Barbara Crouse and her husband, Merle, of Enfield, Connecticut, Shirley Curley of Maine, and Mary Murray and her husband, Raymond; his brother John Sinon, all of Pleasant Valley, New York; and by many nieces and nephews.
Services were held in Wallingford on June 1. Interment was private.

Bernard G. "Ben" Thompson
....show , 60, of Falls Church, Virginia, died on April 30, 2013, at Georgetown University Hospital, of complications from cancer.
He was born on October 30, 1952, in Owensboro, Kentucky, to William J. Thompson and Rose Mary (Dockmeyer) Thompson. He graduated from Owensboro Catholic High School and received his bachelors degree from Strayer University in Virginia. He was a member of the U.S. Army, and retired as a civilian employee of the U.S. Navy. He was a member of various softball umpire associations in Virginia and Maryland and held board positions, including president, treasurer and commissioner.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Paulette (Beaudry) Thompson, who was raised in Orleans County; his son Patrick and his wife, Mary, of Berryville, Virginia; his daughter Amanda Ellerman and her husband, Michael, of Mechanicsville, Virginia; three grandsons: Zachary and Nicholas Ellerman, and Joshua Thompson; his brother Tommy of Rockport, Indiana; two sisters: Darlene May and her husband, Keith, of Utica, Kentucky, and Lynda Edwards and her husband, Danny, of Calhoun, Kentucky; and by numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents; his brothers: Chris, Franky and David Wayne; his granddaughter Addison Thompson; and by his great-nephew Colton Burden.
