ENOSBURG FALLS - Mark E. “Peanut” Parent
....show passed away in Key West on May 19, 2013 from accidental drowning. Mark was born in St. Albans on November 23, 1957 to Mary (Elwood) Parent (Enosburg) and the late Gerard Parent. He was the youngest of a family of five; Suzanne (Gervais) wife of John who now lives in Taylors, SC; Gerard Jr., married to Heidi and residing in Dunnellon, FL; Anne (Vaillancourt) wife to Raymond and Nancy (Tessier) wife of Kenny who live in Enosburg. Mark graduated Enosburg Falls High School and commenced his adult life by leaving town. Joined by friends, Mark travelled all over the southern States working for Osmose and living the “great adventure.” There are many known tales and untold legends of this band of Vermonters. Thankfully, he returned to Vermont and ultimately started his lifelong work in concrete construction ultimately establishing his own business, Hole In One Concrete. He had many valued employees over the years. Mark had two children with his first wife, Patricia McDermott. His beloved and cherished daughter, Adrea, who is now married to Adil Elomri and resides in Denver, CO with their beautiful daughter, Ayla. Ayla loved her G’ampy and his never ending supply of popsicles. His son, Padraic, whom his Dad was so proud of and was also his father’s image on the soccer field, currently resides in Boston, MA with his special friend, Emily. For the last 18 years, Mark shared his life with Suzanne Hull-Parent and brought into his family her son, Michael Boomhower. He taught Michael his love of golf, his hard- work ethic, and the value of perseverance. Together Suzi and Mark had a son Nicholas who lived such a short life and taught them the true lessons of love life and loss. A year later, his youngest child Allison was born. Allison was his ‘little bugger’, who enchanted him from the start and amazed him until the end with her strength, intelligence and love. This brings us to Mark and Sports; a passionate and life-long relationship. An avid fan of the Packers, Cardinals, and Blackhawks, we can say he was an exceptional athlete in his own right. Being active in all sports in high school was not enough for Mark, as he went on to play Softball on several men’s league teams during an era of unprecedented competition. He played for the Co-Op Insurance team known as CI, Kittell Branagan & Sargeant (KBS) and Kevins Korner. Breaking state records and traveling out of state, unlike the Everglade Osmose stories, these ball stories are told in the wee hours of the night and will live on in infamy. AND there is always Golf! A scratch player, club champion, long ball crusher, killer of vultures and so on. This love started as a youngster and lasted throughout his whole life. If he wasn’t playing it he was watching it and grumbling about the footage time the celebrity golfers took from the real game. Mark passed his love of his game on to his family, even if he could not make them into lefties. Mark leaves behind many nieces, nephews and dear in-laws, whom he all called family along with his loving dogs Mitch and Max. Mark cherished his past and present friendships with team members, golf partners, friends and family, and his special place he held for his sister Sue and her family. A Mass of Christian burial will be held Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at 2:00 PM at St. John the Baptist Church, Missisquoui St., Enosburg Falls with Fr. Roger Charbonneau officiating. Immediately following the mass, at 3:00 PM, there will be a Celebration of Mark’s life at the Enosburg Falls Country Club, Elm St., Enosburg Falls. We hope you will join us. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mark’s memory may be made to Fran Jackson, Enosburg School District Treasurer, PO Box 737, Enosburg, VT 05450 to buy winter clothing items for local children in need, a concern Mark voiced frequently.
