Constance (Hathaway) Young
....show died on July 16, 2013, at the Manor in Morrisville.
She was born in Fall River, Massachusetts, on February 5, 1918, a daughter of the late Guilford C. and Nellie (Shirley) Hathaway. She graduated from the B.M.C. Durfee High School in Fall River and from Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, in the Class of 1939.
She married Francis A. Young in 1943 in Fall River. They later moved to Bethesda, Maryland, where they lived for the next 30 years, where Mr. Young worked as executive secretary for the International Exchange of Persons, an arm of the Fulbright Program.
Mrs. and Mr. Young began the move to Craftsbury upon Mr. Youngs retirement, and they became full-time residents in 1983. They were involved in many community activities over the years, especially with St. John the Baptist Episcopal Church in Hardwick.
Mrs. and Mr. Young had no children of their own, so they took on the role of favorite aunt and uncle for the many nieces and nephews. College students found their way smoothed by checks that seemed to arrive at critical times, and visitors to Washington always received a warm welcome and, very often, a guided tour of the sights, including some of the lesser-known institutions such as the Botanical Gardens. After they moved to Craftsbury, their beautiful house and land became a favored destination and gathering place for friends and relatives. Mrs. Young was a dedicated gardener, and flowers always graced the house in season.
She is survived by her niece Constance Rabin, and her nephew Elton Follett, by their children and by many nieces and nephews in the Young family.
She was predeceased by Mr. Young in 1995; and also by her sisters: Ellen H. Follett, Emily A. Macomber, and Shirley H. Pope.
A memorial service will be held at St. John the Baptist Church in Hardwick on September 9, at 11 a.m., with the Reverend Alfred Stefanik officiating, and ashes will be interred at 2 p.m. at the Craftsbury Village Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Young Memorial Trust, the Francis A. Young Scholarship Fund, Hobart and William Smith Colleges, Geneva, New York, 14456; or to the memorial fund at St. John the Baptist Episcopal Church, Hardwick, Vermont 05843.

Slayton Robert Marsh
....show , 85, a nearly life long member of the Brownington Village community, and most recently of Maple Lane Nursing Home in Barton, died on August 12, 2013, in Newport.
He was born on May 20, 1928, in Brownington, a son of Robert and Blanche (Metcalf) Marsh. He graduated from Orleans High School with many stories about his love of team basketball and working the woodlots with his FFA classmates.
On November 2, 1947, he married his love, Patricia Loveland, who survives him.
Mr. Marsh was an incredibly strong man with an equally strong work ethic. Over the years he was employed for his carpentry skills, and later the J.B. Colton Co. where windows and doors were then being handmade. Later, he took employment as an electrician for the village of Orleans, where he later served for many years as the village manager.
During his life in Brownington, Mr. Marsh was never still. He truly enjoyed the countless hours spent remodeling the huge and beautiful family home, planting and working in his bountiful gardens of vegetables and berries, mowing the expansive lawns, painting and repainting the home he so loved, and somehow always finding time to entertain and play with his children, their friends, his grandchildren and their friends. Nothing got in the way of the love and devotion he felt and showed to his family. Hugs and smiles were his calling card. He felt and showed the bond he held with his beloved Brownington and the community members he called friends. His sense of pride in this community was often shown when he was either called upon or volunteered his time and talent in the form of carpentry and painting of the church, the cemetery fence, replacing blown fuses so the service could go on, building many church and ladies aid room fires, and always delivering a fresh, warm, homemade pie to any neighbor who might need one. As the leader of his family, he could anticipate the need or want of each individual, and was always one step ahead of those needs.
He loved playing sports in all seasons. Baseball, basketball in his barn court, hiking Mount Pisgah with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, even at 80 years old, horseshoeing during his lunch breaks with Butch, hunting, fishing, after-dark hide-and-seek with his grandsons, and watching football and hockey on television, were all that made his life so fun.
He was a member of the Brownington Village Congregational Church and a former member of the Brownington Grange.
He is also survived by his two daughters: Nancy Reynolds and her husband, Red, of Derby, and Holly Martel and her husband, Tom, of Irasburg; his grandchildren: John Morley III and his wife, Jodi, of Orleans, Scott Morley and his wife, Sheila, of Coventry, Randy Morley and his partner, Kim, of Newport, E.J. Rowell and his wife, Barbara, of Orleans, Seth Rowell of Barton, and Mercy Martel of Irasburg; and by his great-grandchildren: Taylor and Brooke Morley, Trisha and Mariah Morley, Chelsea, Kristen, Kara, and Enoch John Rowell V, Trevor and Avery Rowell, and step great-granddaughter Megan Prue; He also leaves behind several cousins whom he cared about deeply.
He was predeceased by his two brothers: Stanley and Herbert Marsh; and by his first child, his beloved daughter, Vicki, at the age of 20.
Should friends desire, contributions in his memory may be made to the Brownington Village Congregational Church, 126 Parker Road, Brownington, Vermont 05860.

Colin Campbell Drown Sr.
....show was born on September 27, 1919, in Newport, and he died on August 1, 2013, at his home in Conway, New Hampshire.
After graduating from Newport High School in 1938, he went on to the University of Vermont where, along with accruing a degree in agriculture, he met Elizabeth Ann Corley. They married soon after his graduation in 1942. Almost immediately he was off to World War II as a bombardier in the 446th Bomb Group of the Army Air Corps.
When the war ended, he and his wife farmed for many years in Newport, where they raised their three children. In the 1970s, he began working for the Farmers Home Administration (FmHA) in Newport. In the mid-1970s, the FmHA saw fit to promote and transfer him to Conway, where he and his wife built a new home and settled in for life.
Mr. Drown was a fisherman and a hunter (there is no adjective heady enough to emphasize his love of fishing). Annual trips to the fishing and hunting camps were de rigueur with his brother and the gang for most of his adult life. In later years he shared those times with his nephew, Charlie, and two young protégés.
He loved the FmHA "girls" in Conway, the Conway Public Library folks, the people at Beas diner, Leavitts Bakery, Whitakers farm stand, and the Conway TD Bank branch.
He leaves behind his son Colin and his wife, Marina; his daughter Sarah and her husband, John; his daughter Maggie and her husband, Peter; his grandchildren: Abrah, Adin, Tsalika, Valentin, Marisha, Igor, Fedor, and Danny; his great-grandchildren: Clayton, Owen, Autumn, and Mila; his nieces and nephews: Charlie, Ruthie, Linda, Mary, Cathy, Tom, Sue (deceased), Carol, Pat (deceased), and Elizabeth; many great-nieces and -nephews; and many steadfast and caring friends who regularly kept in touch with him.
His wife, Bet, died in 2006.
All his family and friends have much respect and love for the care daughter Sarah and son-in-law John gave him during his last months. That same respect is extended to the attendance of Kathy and Deb, to the VNA-Hospice LNAs, to the VNs who made sure he was always comfortable, to the indomitable Donna, and to Dr. David Riss who unfailingly cared for and about both Mrs. and Mr. Drown.
There will be a Mass for him at Our Lady of Mountains Catholic church in North Conway, New Hampshire, on Thursday, August 8, at 5 p.m. Burial will take place at Pine Grove Cemetery in Newport, at noon on Saturday, August 10.
No flowers, please. Anyone who would like to make a charitable donation, please consider the Carroll County VNA-Hospice. And when you go fishing or take a hike or are simply enjoying the out-of-doors, give a wave to Colin.
