....show , 105, of Newport, VT passed away on April 28, 2013 in Newport, VT. She was born on September 20, 1907 in Holland, VT the daughter of Fritz and Ida (Forbes) Osgood. She married Howard C. Allen who predeceased her in 1971.
Mrs. Allen was a sales clerk for the former Fishmans Store and bookkeeper for the Montgomery Ward Store for over 30 years retiring in 1971. She loved to read, trout fishing, and deer hunting at their camp in Coventry, VT. She also enjoyed knitting, sewing, crocheting, and traveling.
She is survived by her son Edward Allen of Newport, VT, her daughter-in-law Donna Allen of Wyoming, by her grandchildren: Jill Mackey, Melody Toth and her husband Rich, James Allen and his companion Tammy all of Wyoming, and by 7 great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son Howard C. Allen, Jr and by her grandson Howard Allen III, and by her Half brothers Norman and Clayton Smith and by her sisters: Nettie Vancour and Amy Lamb and by her half sister Blanche Brooks.

Ross A. St.Onge
....show , 89, of Newport, VT passed away on April 25, 2013 in Newport. He was born December 15, 1923 in Newport Center, VT the son of Clayton and Carrie (Angier) St. Onge. Ross and his family were always active in playing music and as kids they were known as the United Farmers Kids and played Sunday's on WDEV radio in Waterbury, VT. Ross and Lucille (Davis) St. Onge were married for 63 years. Lucille predeceased him on January 27, 2012. He and his wife farmed, owned a bowling alley and were involved in many events in Newport Center where he also worked on the road crew before working for the State of Vermont. They enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, horses, and the outdoors in general and family gatherings. He loved playing his guitar, fiddle and banjo.
He is survived by his children: Bonnie Draper of Troy, VT, Steven Rexford of Colchester, VT, and Gary St. Onge and his companion Linda Robertson of PA. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Michael Millette and his wife Jodie, Michelle St.Onge, Darcy Rippon and her husband Dale, Lisa McGinns, Craig Rexford and his wife Melissa, Tanya Searles and her husband Lar, Dan Rexford and his wife Jessica, Todd Draper and his wife Vikki, and Tara Wright and her husband Shawn, and 16 great grandchildren, also by his brother Neil St. Onge and his wife Shirley of Irasburg, VT, and by his sisters: Esther Donovan and her husband Mike of Newport Center, VT, and Erlah Kennison of Westfield, VT and by many nieces and nephews. She worked at the St. Johnsbury Hospital as a nurses aid and Mt. Sacred Heart in Littleton, NH. She also was a resident at Michaud Manor in Derby Line, VT from 1994-2004 when she moved to Derby Green. She was a member of St. Johns Catholic Church in St. Johnsbury, VT and also the Alter Society of the Church.
She is survived by her siblings: Viateur Fortin and his wife Rita of Derby, VT, Rita Peterson of Lyndonville, VT, and Yolande Osowski of NJ, by her sister-in-laws Melvidene Fortin of Derby, VT and Jeanne Fortin of CT, and by several nieces and nephews. She was born November 3, 1933 in Mansonville, Quebec, the daughter of Wallace and Henrietta (Libby) Julien. On February 3, 1951 she married Gerard John Lacroix. She attended Ursaline Convent in Stanstead, Quebec. Beatrice enjoyed crafts, painting, knitting, and crocheting. She was very gifted and the most enjoyment to her was cooking and entertaining her family and friends. She was a member of the Red Hat Ladies, Community Circle, and Cercle Fermiere in Quebec.
She is survived by her husband Gerard Lacroix of Newport, VT, by her precious dog, Cuddles who gave her such joy and never left her side, by her children: Richard Lacroix and his wife Francine of Beebe, Quebec, and Annette Lantagne and her husband Dennis of Newport, VT. Rosalie L. Guyette
....show , 86, of Derby, VT passed away peacefully on April 24, 2013 surrounded by her family in Burlington, VT. She was born March 18, 1927 in Derby, VT, the daughter of Edmond and Marie (Moeykens) Lippens. On November 30, 1950 she married Arthur Guyette who predeceased her on May 22, 2011.
Mrs. Guyette graduated from the University of Vermont with a Masters Degree in Education. She was a long time teacher and started her career in the 1940s where she taught in a one room school house. The majority of her career was at the Newport City Schools. Rosalie loved to travel to many locations in every continent except Antarctica. She also lived in French Morocco, Africa when she was newly-wed. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.
She is survived by her children: John Guyette and his wife Diane, Lisa Boskind and her husband Scott, and Mary Oliver and her husband Mike, all of Derby, VT. She is also survived by daughter-in-law Joanne Guyette-Worth of Newport, VT. She was also survived by her loving grandchildren: Robert Boskind and fiancé Kathy Dunn and Sean Boskind, and Stephanie, Sean and Samantha Guyette, by her siblings: Elaine Reid of St. Johnsbury, VT, Lucille Meunier of Newport, VT, Harold Lippens of Florida, Annette Trombly of Derby Line, VT, and Jeanine Martin of Bryan, TX, by her brothers-in-law: Leo Guyette and his wife Joyce of Newport, VT, and Roland Guyette and his wife Sandra of Vergennes, VT. ....show , 72, of Newport, VT passed away on April 20, 2013 at her home. She was born September 29, 1940 in Nashville, TN. In 1959 she married John W. Nicley who predeceased her in 1978.
Margaret graduated from Johnson State College with a Bachelors Degree. She was a Grant Writer for NECKA retiring after 20 years and she spent a few years as an English teacher in Russia. Margaret was an avid reader and a member of the Bread and Puppet Theatre.
She is survived by her two daughters: Shannon Clark of Minn, and Christine Douglas of FL. She is also survived by her grandchildren: April Douglas of FL, Jimmy McBride of Minn, and Jeff McBride of FL. She is also survived by her great grandchildren: Elizabeth Boese, A.J. Radcliff of FL, Caitlin McBride and Connor McBride of Newport, VT. She was predeceased by a brother Jack, Jr.

He was born September 13, 1959 in Newport, VT the son of Reynold Paquette and the late Jeanne (Guillette) Paquette. Marcel enlisted into the U.S. Army for 7 years. On September 3, 1989 he married Regina Pietkiewicz who survives him. He was a Post Master for the U.S. Postal Service for many years.

Ruth Esser Strong
....show , 86, long time resident of Craftsbury Common, Vermont, passed away at her home Tuesday, April 16, 2013 surrounded by her family. Ruth was born in Manhattan, New York in 1926, daughter of Ulrich and Ida Esser. Her childhood included growing up on a boat on the Hudson River in New York City, later living in Washington DC and graduating from Roosevelt High. From summers working on a farm in Vermont, she pushed to go to University of Vermont. Getting a degree in Agronomy with minor in Engineering, Ruth was instrumental in getting an Agricultural Engineering degree program in place at UVM. She met Horace Strong at UVM and married at the College St. Congregational Church in Burlington. Ruth and Horace moved from there to raising five children on part of the Strong farm north of the Common. She was a past member of Search Light and Ladies Union, and was a lead voice in keeping Craftsbury Academy independent. Ruth loved the outdoors and, with a large family in tow, was active in canoeing, hiking and camping. Interests in land conservation, forestry, gardening and writing continued throughout her life. There were few things she enjoyed more than following and participating in her kids adventures and careers, AND her 4WD Toyota pickups, whether driving up to her garden with its expansive views, going for a swim at her beach on Big Hosmer, or on cross-country trips. As a Christian, she was not shy of saying what the Lord had done for her in her life, and she was concerned about protecting the principles of individual liberty that she saw as the basis of Americas prosperity. As organic a granola cruncher as the best of them, she saw this fitting perfectly with her strong conservative patriotism. Ruth was predeceased by her parents and a grandson, Marine Sgt Jesse Strong, KIA Iraq 2005. She is survived by her children: Nancy J. West and husband, Jim, of East Craftsbury, Nathan Strong and wife, Vicki, of Albany, Russell Strong of Craftsbury Common, Lynn Calderwood and husband, Ricki, of East Highgate, Matthew Strong and wife, Patty, of Stowe, grandchildren: Matthew L. Strong, Heather Strong, Charlotte (Calderwood) Martin, Rebekah Calderwood, Cicily Strong, Isabelle Strong, and great grandchild, Noah Strong.

Anne operated her own variety store on East Main Street in Newport for many years. She loved all animals, enjoyed flower gardening, bird watching, and her nick name was Annie Oakley as she was a sharp shooter. She was a member of the NRA.

Myrna was bookkeeper for Nadeau Auto Parts and Landfill. She volunteered for many years for the American Red Cross Blood Drive. She enjoyed knitting, playing cards, doing puzzles, and traveling, especially to their home in Florida. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxillary, American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, and Daughters of Isabella She loved her family dearly.
She is survived by her husband Charles H. Jerry was a driver for Wilbert Vault Company in Hardwick, VT for many years and later worked for Ethan Allen MFG in Orleans, VT for 13 years.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and wood crafts.

Bob was a graduate of Winchester High School and attended Tulane University. He was a veteran of the United States Coast Guard as well as being a longtime member of the American Legion.
Bob worked as a self-employed electrical engineer/designer. He was a co-founder and director of the Jay Athletic Association, and he was active with Little League coaching and umpiring while his children were involved, extending over 10 years. He was also district administrator for the Northeast region of Little League.
On July 4, 1976 he married Becky Mathieu. A devoted husband of 36 years, father, and Grampa, he always found time to be with his family including attending sporting events that his children were involved in. Bobs love for his family and friends was apparent through his words and actions; he always spoke highly of his wife and children describing how proud he was of each of them. He cherished the time he spent with his two grandchildren as they always brought a smile to his face and a joy to his heart. He had a natural gift of interacting with children and could always make them laugh. He was an avid Boston Sports enthusiast and enjoyed spending time in the woods.
Bob is survived by his wife Becky Belida of Jay, VT, his children: Corey Belida and his wife Erica and their two children Emerald and Ashton of Fairfax, VT, Kevin Belida and his wife Rachel of Portland, OR, and Nikki Belida of Fairfax, VT, his brothers George Belida and his companion Jonan Cacciola of Woburn, MA, and Peter Belida and his companion Geraldine Rossi of Salem, MA. He is also survived by his mother-in-law Lorraine Mathieu of Williston, VT, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother Michael Belida and his wife Pepper, and by a sister Belinda Belida.
Friends may call from 1 - 3 P.M. on Saturday, April 13, 2013 at the Curtis-Britch-Converse-Rushford Funeral Home, 4670 Darling Hill Road, Newport, VT. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hope Lodge, 237 East Ave., Burlington, VT 05401. A private burial with family will be arranged at a later date.
Daphne Ellen Hall Morse
....show , 86, of Newport, VT; passed away on April 5, 2013, due to complications following surgery. She was born August 14, 1926 in Salem Derby, VT, the daughter of Ora and Nina (Leach) Blake. She was married to Josh Hall and Asa Morse, who both predeceased her.
Daphne loved her antiques, going to yard sales and haggling over prices, collecting coin banks of all shapes and sizes and different types of jewelry. She worked at Franks Steak House Restaurant and the Royal Restaurant in Newport for many years. She liked to travel, going to Ireland, Hawaii, and visiting her niece in Spain and Alaska. She wintered in Scottsdale, Arizona where she pursued her passion for antiques.
Daphne Morse is survived by Sons: Arland Hall and his children, True, Jade, Josh, Jordan, Taylor, of Glen Burnie, MD, and Brea and her husband, Glen Hunter of Anderson, SC, Roland (Peanut) Hall and his wife Brenda and son Roland, Jr, of Glen Burnie, Baltimore, Maryland and Blake Hall of Newport, VT and his son Blake, Jr of Baltimore, Maryland. Grandchildren: Brian Hall of Scottsdale, AZ, and Linda (Hall) Majors of Newport, VT. Her niece Jane Kelley and husband David of Derby Line, VT, cousin, Beatrice Blake of Barre, VT whom she was close to. She left several great grandchildren and many great nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her son Terry Hall of Scottsdale, AZ, and his son Mark Hall of Newport, VT, by her sisters: Edith Willey, Betty Collins, Lela Fields and brother Glendon Leach.

Rachel Lorraine Marcotte Bussiere
....show of Newport, VT passed away on April 3, 2013 in Newport, VT. She was born November 7, 1930 in Magog, Quebec a daughter of Jean and Malvina (Stebenne) Marcotte.
On July 22, 1947 she married Remi Bussiere who predeceased her in 1997.
She was a strong woman who was a firm believer in God, human decency and love. She raised us with morals, values and forgiveness. She was the tower of strength both physically and mentally. She instilled in us the power of our mind she used to say you can do anything as long as you put your mind to it. Her love for us was deep, her first grandson Benjamin Bussiere said it best Grandma you lived a full life. You made me laugh all the time when I go to visit. You also spoiled me like crazy. Your love was warm and heartfelt even though I took it for granted. Im happy your suffering is over and you can be with Grandpa forever. R.I.P. Grandma. You shall be missed forever.

She is also survived by 9 grandchildren, and by the following brothers and sisters: Real Marcotte of Canada, Norman Marcotte of FL, Ben Marcotte and his wife Jeannine of Magog, Quebec, Rita of FL, and Claire of St. Johnsbury, VT. Clair E. Umstead
....show , 83, of Newport, VT, passed away on April 3, 2013 in Newport, VT. He was born April 8, 1929 in Royersford, PA a son of Joseph and Mary (Druckenmiller) Umstead. On August 18, 1951 he married Evangeline Smith who predeceased him on December 6, 2008. He received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Philosophy in 1951 from Eastern Nazarene College in Quincy, MA, and then a Master of Divinity in 1954 from Nazarene Theological Seminary in Kansas City, MO, In 1961 he received a Masters Degree in Music Education from Temple University in Philadelphia, PA.
He pastored and was minister of music at several churches throughout the Mid-Atlantic and New England areas. He was also a college music professor and taught trumpet at Peabody Conservatory of Music in Baltimore, Maryland.
Among his hobbies he enjoyed gardening, playing softball, arranging sacred music, pastoral care, hiking around his home in Charleston and Arizona and playing the trumpet. He helped build the Knollwood Church of the Nazarene in Dayton, Ohio and Royersford Church of the Nazarene in Royersford, PA.
He is survived by his children: Craig Umstead and his wife Maveret of Augusta, NY, Joseph Umstead and his wife Diane of Raleigh, NC, Carol Umstead of Newport, VT and Jonathan Umstead and his wife Cathie of Lebanon, PA, by his grandchildren: Ben Umstead, Erin Umstead, Josh, Leah, Seth, Rachel, and Timothy Umstead and a great grandchild Aiden. He is also survived by a sister Grace Detwiler and her husband Charles of Spring City, PA and by his nephews: Larry Detwiler and his wife Cathy of PA, Mark Detwiler and his wife Janet of PA, Tim Detwiler and his wife Cindy of PA, by his niece: Beth Coudriet of Spring City, PA and numerous great and great great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday April 6, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. at the Royersford Church of the Nazarene, Royersford, PA, with the Rev. Larry Powell officiating. Friends may call at the Church on Saturday April 6, 2013 from 1:00 P.M. until the hour of the funeral. Interment will follow in Fernwood Cemetery, Royersford, PA. Evelyn S. Page
....show , 92, of Holland, VT passed away on April 2, 2013. She was born June 9, 1920 in Holland, VT a daughter of Harry and Hazel (Pocock) Smith. On June 12, 1948 she married Reginald Page who predeceased her February 8, 2010.
Mrs. Page entered into the United States Coast Guard during WW11 and held the rank of Yeoman 1st Class YIC. She was the Holland Town Clerk for twenty-five years.
She was a member and treasurer of the Holland Historical Society, the Holland United Methodist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star of Newport. She was the oldest resident of Holland.
She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister Marcia Waterman.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday May 25, 2013 at the Holland United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in Mead Hill Cemetery, Holland, VT with full military honors.
