Thomas J Christoni
....show , 51, of Derby, VT, died suddenly at
home on October 30, 2013. Tom loved the NEK and all things related to it. He
was an avid ice fisherman, as well as any kind of salt water or fresh water
fishing opportunities. He loved hunting in the fall with friends and family,
and always enjoyed the fruits of his hunts and fresh fish. He was an avid
sports fan- golf was his main passion- and he played very well for having
just begun. Any game that was on, he would be watching. Baseball, football,
basketball and hockey were continually hearing his voice yelling at the TV.
Tom worked for many years at VT Aerospace in Lyndonville, VT. He loved his
work there as a machinist, engineer and IT man. He was an extremely dedicated
worker, who would never miss a day of work. He loved all his co-workers- Ken
Bean, Joe P, Ed Bedard and Roxanne were just a few that he spoke of daily.
Tom was a friend to many, and his philosophy was that friends and family were
the most important thing. Nobody should fight and not make up as life was
short and you must get along. His love for his daughter was everlasting and
huge- there was not a thing that he would not do for her- his Samantha. Tom
is survived by his wife- Annie and daughter Samantha, his mother- Kay Christoni
and brother John Christoni , and nephew Logan Biscornet, his mother in law
Joan Curtis, by his brother-in-law Pete Curtis and his sister-in-law Denise
Christoni. There are too many family members and friends to write. He was
well loved. Tom was pre-deceased by two of his favorite people in the world.
Paul Curtis- his father in law, and his brother Jimmy. The deaths of those
men took a hard toll on Tom, and he missed them dreadfully. He always said
that Paul was his best friend in the world. And now he can be with them both.
Our world was a better place because of Tom’s being here in it for a short
time. He will be dearly missed and never forgotten. Rock on Thomas- we will
miss you horribly. Nothing will be the same. Funeral services will be held at
1:00 P.M. on Saturday November 9, 2013 at the Curtis-Britch-Converse-Rushford

Albert Vaart
....show , born 5 November 1917, Tartu, Estonia
Died 26 October 2013, Jay, Vermont. Albert Vaart, World War II Pilot, Civil
and Computer Engineer
Albert Vaart passed away at home in Jay, VT, on 26 October, just
short of 96 years of age. He had been a resident of the Northeast
Kingdom in Northern Vermont since 1989, arriving from New
Jersey soon after his retirement. Albert was a veteran of World War II,
serving as a pilot for
the Estonian Air Force and then the German Air Force on the
Eastern Front against the Soviet Union. He was shot down in
February 1945, but he parachuted to safety. Badly injured, he
was found by German forces and transported to a hospital near
Munich and over many months restored to health. Albert emigrated to New
York City in 1951, where he was
reunited with his wife, Hedvig and their young son, Andres, who
had arrived in America the year before and whom he had not
seen since Andres’s birthday late in 1944. In New York City, Albert went
through a dozen years of nightschool,
eventually earning a PhD in civil engineering. He found work in the design
and manufacture of paper goods, developing
and deploying new computer design systems with the West Virginia Paper and
Pulp Company.
Albert’s avocation and love was music. In the New York City area, he sang
in and led choirs in the Estonian community and
in the Estonian Russian Orthodox Church After his retirement at 70 and
widowed, Albert moved to the
Northeast Kingdom, buying a home near Troy. The location reminded him of
his native Estonia, and he wanted to be near
a flight school comrade living nearby in Canada. Amazingly, Albert returned
to flight school in Newport, VT. At the age of 75,
he soloed again for the first time since the war. Helping him built his
Vermont life was a local resident,
Clemence Leblond, who had sold him his house near Troy. The two developed a
deep friendship and love. Clem’s love and
loyalty sustained Albert through numerous illnesses and the growing
weakness of his later years. They traveled together, ate
together, and sang and played together at Albert’s electronic organ.
Albert left behind Clem and the many members of her family that supported
the two—they were a second family to him. Along
with them, surviving are Andres and his wife, Tracy, of Reston, Virginia,
and Albert’s grandson, Ryan, and his wife, Lynn, of
Arlington, Virginia. A graveside service will be held at 3:00 P.M. on
Thursday October 31, 2013 at the Brownington Village Cemetery with the Rev.
Timothy Naples officiating.
