Burton Kenneth Daggett
....show , 70, best known as “Joe”, passed away and went on ahead on
Tuesday, November 12, 2013 at North Country Hospital in Newport, VT of
natural causes related to Multiple Sclerosis. Joe lived in Holland, Vermont
with his wife Vicki.
Joe was born August 21, 1943 in Newport, Vermont, the son of Bernard Fred
Daggett and Thelma Willey Daggett. Joe grew up on the Daggett family farm in
Holland, Vermont and he graduated from Derby Academy in 1962. Shortly after
graduating, he left the family farm and bought a dump truck. He was very
proud of the work he did to help build the Northern Vermont
segment of Interstate 91 in the Mid-60’s. On June 15, 1968, Joe married
Vicki Cowens, the love and angel of his life. Joe sold his dump truck in 1970
and built a home on his Uncle Ted’s farm on the Morgan Road in Derby. Joe and
Vicki lived there for 25 years and raised their two children, Andrew and
Jennifer, before they moved back to Holland in 1995. Joe loved animals and
had many beloved pets in his lifetime including his beloved dog Virgil who
served as his faithful companion once he was no
longer able to drive. After selling his dump truck, Joe went to work for
Pike Industries as a heavy equipment
mover in 1970. He worked for Pike for 15 years before making a change to
driving milk truck in the mid-80’s. Joe worked as a milk truck transport
driver for the balance of his trucking career. Joe loved the open road and he
loved to drive truck. He was meticulous with the care of his vehicles and
took a great deal of pride in keeping his trucks spotless, inside and out.
Joe was
also a very capable mechanic and could identify and fix any problem he ever
encountered with any motorized vehicle that he ever drove. In addition, he
possessed a very keen, analytical and innovative mind and was often sought
out for solutions to problems. After retiring from trucking in the early
90’s, Joe served as selectman for the Town of Holland and volunteered many
hours with the town road crew. He found a great deal of pleasure serving in
these civic roles. Joe realized his greatest enjoyment in life from spending
time with the people that he loved. He was an extremely devoted family man.
He is survived by his wife Vicki, his son Andrew and wife Erin of Brookfield,
NH, and his daughter Jennifer and husband Ronald
Patenaude of Holland. He is also survived by his grandchildren Katelyn,
Jacob, and Molly Patenaude and Autumn, Audrey, and Andrea Daggett. In
addition, he is survived by one brother, Gordon “Bub” Daggett of Holland, one
half-sister, Alice Daggett of Newport and his nephew Steve and wife Jenny. He
was pre-deceased by a half-brother, Michael Daggett, a sister-in-law
Colleen, and his special father and mother-in-law John and Mollie Cowens.
Joe and his family will forever be grateful to his many caregivers over the
last 20 years of his life, with special, heartfelt thanks to Michelle
Gonthier who cared for him with love and dedication through the most difficult
stages, the VNA Nurses, Dr. Brent Tatum, and Dr. Denise Niemira. Joe was most
blessed by the unconditional, unwavering, selfless care of his wife whose
complete devotion allowed him to live within his home with as much quality of
life as possible throughout the duration of his illness. Joe Daggett was a
model man, husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle, and friend. He had
an incredibly strong work ethic and admirable sense of honor and integrity.
He was selfless, determined, and would always do more for others than he
would ever do for himself. He had a wonderful sense of humor and a strong
sense of purpose. Ironically, Joe’s strength was never more evident than
throughout the course of his disease. As his physical body failed, his
resolve and resilience strengthened. He was a remarkable example of strength
through adversity. Per Joe’s request, there will be no official memorial
services. Cards and remembrances can be mailed to his family at 3045 Valley
Road Holland – please include specific memories. Folks are also very welcome
to visit his wife and family at his home in Holland at any time. Donations in
his memory can be made to Clara Nadeau -Border Livestock Plus 4-H - Gore
Road

education and character development which Joe valued deeply.

love DeAnn Desrochers. Rob so very much loved life and enjoyed each and every
day. He took such great pride in his two children, Ben and Kate who he loved
and adored beyond words. There is not one thing that they said or did that he
was not totally interested in. They along with his father Paul (Wally) were
truly his best friends. Rob was so proud of the hunting camp that he owned
and built with his dad and brother-in-law. He looked so forward to those two
weeks in November that they spent there. Good times-Good stories-Good
friends-Good food. How many suppers did Rob plan and cook for many of his
friends at Big Buck Lodge! And, of course, we can’t forget the ice fishing in
the winter on Lake Memphremagog. Rob, DeAnn, Ben and Kate spent many hours in
the ice shack fishing for perch. Rob enjoyed people stopping by for a visit
at the shack so much, he so looked forward to that. Rob drilled many holes
for his family and friends looking for that “hot spot” where the fish were
hiding. There was the famous chart in his basement that kept track daily and
yearly of how many fish were caught each day, not to mention who caught the
most fish, he or DeAnn. Rob was an extraordinary human being with an endless
supply of caring and compassion for anyone that he crossed paths with. He was
a great son, husband, father, brother, and uncle. He was a great friend to so
many people. He will be missed by so very many people. Rob was also so
dedicated to the business he ran with his parents, Meunier Construction. He
worked so deligently to make sure each and every customer was happy and
satisfied. Rob is survived by his wife, DeAnn, their two children Benjamin
