Jarrett "Jay" Lee Gray
....show , 45, of Newport died peacefully in Burlington, Vt on December
20 surrounded by his family. Jarrett was born in Newport, Vt on August 17, 1968 son of Douglas &
Pauline Gray. He attended North Country High School and Champlain College in
Burlington, Vt. Following college he returned home to help open and operate
the Eastside Restaurant. Jarrett trumped all with his customer service skills
and efforts while helping to build the family business. He brought many
business ventures into the community. He opened a Newport office for Carmen’s
Travel, Boxers Clothing Store for Men and renovated and operated the Top of
the Hills Inn and Motel. Eventually taking over the Shops at the Eastside he
added a clothing and tuxedo department. In whatever field Jarrett was working
he left his mark. Customers and business associates did not like Jarrett,
they loved him. Jarrett took immense pride in his sons Kendrick and Kaine Gray. He traveled
with them to many practices and sports camps throughout New England.
Attending their games was his greatest enjoyment. The eldest son Kendrick is
striving to achieve his father’s dream in Burlington. As a sophomore at Rice
Memorial High School he is headlining the sports basketball news and is
already being labeled Vermont’s top prospect for college recruit. Kaine Gray
attends North Country Junior High. He will move up the ranks in football and
basketball and is already up holding the family tradition of business. He
prefers the country and can be spotted in big work boots and a Gray Farms and
Transport jacket that he proudly claims has been earned not given. Every one of us in life has a mission; every one of us has something to
teach and something to learn. Jarrett was one who had much to teach with not
enough time. He was born with a rare disease called cystinosis and was given
a life expectancy of 8-12 years. He spent his younger years in and out of
major hospitals enduring many procedures and surgeries. Following a kidney
transplant Jarrett gained some valued time, time in which he impressed the
lives of so many. He kept his kidney for a remarkable 33 years and was the
longest living cystinotic patient on record anywhere. A medical miracle and message for all; Jarrett courageously entered each
day with a love for life, a kind word for everyone and a smile that made the
day better. Jarrett is survived by his two sons Kaine and Kendrick Gray; mother Pauline
(Deso) Gray; father Douglas Gray Sr. and his wife Barb; his sister Kathy
Kellogg and husband Gary; his brother Douglas Gray Jr. and his wife Darlene
