St. Johnsbury, VT Harold E. "Ace" Ackerman
....show died on April 15, 2013 at his residence at 81 Sunset Drive following a period of failing health. Harold was born in Alburg, Vt. on August 9th, 1920, the son of Bernice and Ernest Ackerman. He is survived by his three children, a son George and his wife Mari, of Kailua, Kona, Hawaii, a son Stephen and his wife Mary of Gilsum , NH and a daughter, Robin Tessier of St. Johnsbury, three Grandsons and two brothers, Carroll and Bernard Ackerman. His beloved wife of 45 years, Irene, passed away on March 23, 1991. Harold graduated from the Burlington High School in the Class of 1938. In January 1940 he enlisted in the Army Air Corp and was stationed at Mitchell Field, Garden City, Long Island. He was transferred to Technical School at Lowry Field in Denver, Colorado. Harold rose through the ranks and was promoted to Technical Sergeant in June of 1942. On November 2, 1942 Harold set sail from Jersey City, NJ aboard the USS Hermatage landing in Casablanca, French Morocco 18 days later. After seeing service in North Africa he was transferred to Sicily and later Italy before returning to the United States in June 1945. Harold was discharged with the rank of Technical Sergeant on September 2, 1945. While in the service he earned a Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Service Medal and a European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon with five clusters. In May, 1946, Harold commenced Training School for the position of Inspector, Motor Vehicle Department Highway Patrol. Upon completion of his training his first duty station was Rutland, VT. In July 1947, upon the formation of the Vermont State Police, Harold transferred to that Department becoming one of the first State Troopers in the State. Harold remained in Rutland until 1949 when he was promoted to Corporal and transferred to the White River as the Sub-Station Commander. In 1952 he was promoted to Sergeant and moved to St. Johnsbury in the position of Station Commander, Assistant Troop Commander. Harold held this position until he retired in 1977 after 31 years of service to the State Police. While on duty in St. Johnsbury, Harold attended a number of college classes and seminars including the Harvard University Homicide Seminar, Northeastern University Traffic Management, St. Anselm's College Traffic Management, New England State Police Staff College Administration and Management, Babson College Administration and Supervision. During his tour in St. Johnsbury Harold had the opportunity to be one of the investigators on the Orville Gibson Murder case, which to his disappointment remains unsolved. Lyndonville, VT Mona Elizabeth (Drown) Colby
....show , 84, passed away Saturday evening August 31, 2013 at the Pines Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Lyndonville surrounded by her family and friends. A lifelong resident of Lyndonville, Mona was born on December 2, 1928, the daughter of Burley Drown and Louise Corrow Drown Bessette. She was educated in Lyndonville and then married Glenn Erwin Colby. In earlier years, she worked at Leon Moore’s Sawmill debarking lumber. She will be remembered as a devoted homemaker and child care provider, having helped nearly every family in the area. She was very friendly and outgoing and often would visit with people on the streets of Lyndonville. She was known to bake pies, cookies, and cakes for the neighborhood. Her favorite pastimes included going to band concerts in the park and dancing. She volunteered at the Darling Inn for many years and was recognized three times as Volunteer of the Year. Mona was a longtime member of the Lyndonville VFW Ladies Auxiliary. For many years, she lived with Bin Rivers of Newark, VT. Besides her parents and husband Glenn, she is predeceased by her son Harold Colby; brothers Harold, Reginald, and Robert and sisters Marjorie Buxton and Isabelle Page. She leaves her daughter Suzanne Colby of Proctor, VT; Grandchildren: Christopher, Jacqueline, and Sarah Colby; great-grandchild Brooklynn; daughter in law Laura and husband Ray; a brother Donald Drown of Lyndon, VT; sister Cynthia John of Lyndonville; several nieces and nephews; and Bin’s grandson Randy and extended family & friend Judy Bullis. A Funeral Service will be held at 10 am Thursday, September 5 at Lyndonville United Methodist Church, Lyndonville, VT. Burial will be private at Lyndon Center Cemetery. Marie Doris LaRoche Bickford
....show 91, died peacefully surrounded by her family at the Pines in Lyndonville on December 30. She was born December 9, 1922 the daughter of Wilfred and Marie LaRoche. Doris was married to Walter “Harland” Bickford on January 10, 1940. She was a wonderful mother and homemaker. She loved to cook, clean and dance. In her later years she loved to listen and dance when the Gilman’s played at the Darling Inn. Doris leaves six children and their spouses. Nancy White and husband Ken, Walter Bickford and wife Ellen, Robert Bickford and wife Judy, Bruce Bickford and wife Bunny, Philip Bickford and wife Lorraine, and Emily Tetrault and husband Arnie. She also leaves 14 grandchildren and 5 step grandchildren, 52 great-grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren. Doris was pre deceased by her parents Wilfred and Marie LaRoche, her husband Walter Harland Bickford, and a son Harry Walter Bickford. EASTERBROOKS, Colleen Marilyn Dunn
....show passed away Tuesday morning, March 19, 2013 at The Pines Rehabilitation and Health Center in Lyndon. She was born July 4, 1924 the only child of Lysle and Phyllis LaFrance Dunn. She attended schools in Victory and Granby and graduated from St. Johnsbury Academy in 1942. On February 16, 1944 she married Guy R. Easterbrooks and they made their home on the family farm on Pudding Hill in Lyndon. They lived there all their married life and raised their three children there. She was an active member of The Pudding Hill Mothers Club working diligently to raise money in support of the school. Later on she worked at the Pyrofax Gas Company and then Vermont Tap & Die. After she retired in 1988 she became a RSVP Volunteer logging over 15,000 hours. She made mittens for children and lap robes for nursing homes and veteran’s homes in the area. She also volunteered for the Orleans County Citizens Advocacy, Umbrella and Northern Counties Health Care helping with mailings to the community. In 2000 she received the Special Recognition Award from Chapter 33 Telephone Pioneers of America. In 2008 she received the Governor’s Award for Outstanding Community Service. She is survived by her three children, Elsie (and Bob) Lawrence of Lyndonville. Eileen (and Dean) Coulter, Sr. of Dalton, NH, and Robert (andLawrie) Easterbrooks of Lyndonville. Lyndonville, VT - Leona M. Hebert
....show , 94, died peacefully following a long illness, at the Pines Rehabilitation and Health Center in Lyndonville, VT on July 5, 2013. Leona, a lifelong resident of Lyndonville, was born on May 30, 1919, to Aime and Alice Hebert. She was the sixth of nine children. She attended Lyndon Institute, worked in the office of the Lyndonville Electric Company and as a bookkeeper for the family business – Hebert and Sons Plumbing and Heating, and was an avid golfer. Leona devoted her life to the family, caring for her parents, siblings, and other relatives. She will be remembered for her loving nature, her quick smile and infectious laugh, making popcorn for the Wednesday night band concerts, and her carrot patch. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Francis, Leo, and Adrian, and sister Florence Pinard. She is survived by sisters Olivine Perrault and Pauline Duchaine, and brother Armand and his wife Priscilla, all residents of Lyndonville, as well as three generations of nieces and nephews. There will be a memorial mass on Thursday, July 11, at 11 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church (Hill Street, Lyndonville). Leona will be laid to rest in the family plot at the St. Elizabeth Roman Catholic Cemetery. Pearsons Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements. Groton, VT - Howard D. “Clunker” Hill
....show of Glover Road passed away Wednesday evening (September 4, 2013) at his home following a period of declining health. He was 88. Born on March 7, 1925 in Ipswich, MA, he was the son of Ralph C. and Olive (Dawson) Hill. Howie grew up in Ipswich, MA and was a graduate of Ipswich High School. He served in the US Navy during WWII aboard the USS Canberra as a radar man and the Korean War aboard the USS Laning as a radio operator. He was awarded the WWII Victory Medal, American Theatre Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theatre Medal, and the Philippine Liberation Medal. On September 7, 1954, he married Joan D. Roberts. In earlier years, he worked as a meat cutter, for an oil company, and as a realtor. In search of a nice area to raise a family, he moved to Groton, VT in 1964 from Massachusetts. Shortly thereafter, he bought the local store in Groton and operated it as Hills Market for many years. He also became the Justice of the Peace in Groton. His wife Joan died on July 12, 2010 and a son Ralph Hill died in January 11 2012. He leaves six children: Nathan Hill of Bradford, VT, Judith A. Briggs and her husband Norman of Concord, VT, James Hill and his wife Winifred of Pike, NH, Laura Brown and her husband Mel of Groton, VT, and David Hill of New Hampshire. Six grandchildren: Joy and Rosa Brown both of Groton, VT; Christine Conley of Bristol, CT, Sarah Hill of Essex, VT, Ralph Andrew “Drew” Hill of West Topsham, VT, and Lydia Hill of Burlington, VT. Great Grandchildren Troy and Natalie Norton. A sister Helen Grundstrom of Rowley, Mass. Two nieces Debbie Grunstrom and Jan Sanders and a nephew John Howard all of Rowley, Mass. She was 94. Born on November 5, 1918 in Wolcott, VT, she was the daughter of Glenn and Mary (Davis) Alger. A longtime resident of Lyndonville, she also lived in Carmel, IN and Zephyrhills, FL. Ethel was a homemaker and while living in Indiana, she was active in the Alliance Church. She is pre-deceased by her husband Lawrence Jenkins in 1982 and a brother and sisters. She leaves five sons Laurence Jenkins and his wife Kay of East Bernard, TX, Stephen Jenkins and his wife Marilyn of Lyndonville, VT, David Jenkins and his wife Carol of Zephyrhills, FL, Stanley Jenkins and his wife Brenda of Fairfax, VT and Wayne Jenkins of Lebanon, IN. Born on February 11, 1934 on Odinack Indian Reservation in Canada, she was the daughter of Francis and Flosina (Guernsey) Nollette. She grew up in Lincoln-Woodstock area of New Hampshire. Bernadette was a homemaker and in earlier years, she was a head chambermaid at the Indian Head Resort in Lincoln, NH. She enjoyed Sunday rides, spending time with her children, laughing and having fun, knitting and sewing. She will be remembered as a good homemaker and cook. She was pre-deceased by her husband Carl Jones. She was born in Clarksville, Tenn., on July 15, 1926 the daughter of Gupton and Ethel Barbee. Mary had been a nurse's aide for many years at the New Milford Hospital in New Milford, Conn. She enjoyed sewing, reading, holidays, birthday celebrations and was an avid Atlanta Braves fan. She was married to Lawrence Douglas McGavic who predeceased her. She is survived by her children: Patsy Ann Tompkins and Husband Casey of Barton, Vt., Barbara Kay McGavic of New Milford, Conn., Mary Virginia Williamson of St. Johnsbury, Vt., Wayne Douglas McGavic and wife Libby of Thomasville, N.C., George David McGavic and wife Nancy of New Milford, Conn.; grandchildren: Alexander and Andrew McGavic of Thomasville, N.C., Mary Roxanne Williamson of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; great-granddaughter, Mary Alice of Myrtle Beach, S.C; Grand Dog, Keeley, Winnie and Bree; one brother, George Barbee of Clarksville, Tenn.; three sisters: Marta Elizabeth and husband Chester of Hopkinsville, Ky., Shirley McDaniel and husband Joseph of Elgin, S.C., and Virginia Jordon of Florence, S.C., many nieces and nephews. Rena McGennis
....show , age 93, of Lyndonville, Vt., passed away Tuesday evening, September 3, 2013, at NVRH in St. Johnsbury, Vt. Rena was born December 7, 1919 in Wheelock, Vt., the daughter of Oscar and Alpa (Boardman) Noyes. She was a Native-American descendant member of the Abenaki-Nulhegan Tribe. She graduated from the 8th grade in a one-room school in Squabble Hollow in 1933, and from Lyndon Institute in 1937. After a number of years of determination, she graduated from Lyndon State College in 1963 to fulfill her dreams of becoming a teacher. She taught elementary grades a number of years in Lyndon, Sheffield, Sutton and Westmore, and also in a private school for Jehovah's Witnesses in California. Her final years of teaching were in Basic Adult Education in St. Johnsbury, Vt. and San Juan Jr. College in Farmington, N.M. On December 7, 1937, she married Edwin Gilman who predeceased her in 1971. Six sons and one daughter were born to them: David Gilman and wife, Connie of Twin Falls, Idaho , Donald Gilman and wife, Linda, of Lyndon Center Vt., O. Duane Gilman and wife, JoAnne, of Lunenburg, Vt., Douglas Gilman and wife, Linda, of Orlando, Fl., Dale Gilman and wife, Pam, of Lyndon Center, Vt., Delmer (Duff) Gilman and wife, Myalin, of Soda Springs, Idaho., and Deborah (Gilman) Demers and husband, Pierre, of Bloomfield, N.M. She married Richard McGennis in 1978 who predeceased her in 2005 in Farmington, N.M. She had one step-son, Armond McGennis of Woodsville, N.H. and Doris McGennis of North Haverhill, N.H. She had one step-grandson and 3 step-great-grandchildren. Rena also had 18 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren, and many relatives around the country. Rena loved music and sang in the L.I. Glee Club for 4 years and played violin in the L.I. Orchestra for 3 years. She was also "Grace" in the Senior Play in 1937. She also enjoyed dancing, sewing, scrapbooking and traveling. A memorial service will be held at the Jehovah's Witness Kingdom Hall in Lyndon, Vt. on Saturday, September 21, 2013 at 2 P.M. Burial will follow the service at Lyndon Center Cemetery. Friends and family are welcome to attend a get together after the services at Dale Gilman’s on Route 122, Lyndon Center, VT.

....show passed away at the St. Johnsbury Health & Rehab Center on December 3, 2013 at the age of 91 after a brief illness with cancer. Pauline was the daughter of the late Ernest and Ruth Dopp of Sheffield, Vermont. Pauline was born and raised in Sheffield, Vermont. She also worked in Newport Vermont and then moved to Westmore to care for her Aunt where she lived for 39 years. Her passions were her family, playing Bingo, solving 1000 piece puzzles and going to her Senior Centers in Barton and Orleans for meals. Surviving children are Ruth Rocheleau and companion Paul Demars of St. Johnsbury, Lena Young of Kirby, and Willie & Nancy Mitchem of St. Johnsbury. Besides her children, Pauline leaves her Step-brother Larry Dopp and wife Caroline of Newport, VT and sister Arlene Sacco of Ocala, Florida; as well as several grandchildren, great- grand children and great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Pre-deceasing her were her husband Gerald and daughter Althea Degreenia as well as her sister Velma and nephew Leo whom she was care-taker for until they passed away. Born on March 17, 1927, in Middletown, Conn., she was the daughter of Bradford and Gladys (Cameron) Clark. Hilda was raised and educated in Connecticut. She retired from the Pines Health & Rehabilitation where she was employed as a housekeeper. She enjoyed nature and was an outgoing person. Her first husband, Robert John, and her second husband, Joseph Morse, both pre-deceased her as well as a brother, Donald Clark, and a sister, Barbara John. She leaves a son, Richard John Sr. of Lyndonville; four grandchildren: Richard John Jr and his companion Annie Scherber of St. Johnsbury, Vt., Tracey John and her companion Robert Van Vliet of Lyndonville, Chastity Dean of St. Johnsbury, and Jessica Berry and her husband David of St. Johnsbury; great-grandchildren: Thomas Van Vliet, Nicole Van Vliet, Michael John, Devin John, Gabrielle Goodwin, David Goodwin, Jr., Lila Lunnie, and Kevin Greene. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 7, at Pearsons Funeral Home, LLC, 70 Church St, Lyndonville, Vt. Rev. Matthew Bowles, pastor of Lyndonville United Methodist Church, will officiate. Following the service, everyone is invited to gather at the family's home at 43 Middle St., Lyndonville. Marilee Lawson Nichols
....show , age 70, of Sebring Fla. and Lyndonville, VT passed away on Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013. She was born on April 3, 1943 in Lyndonville, Vt. to Robert Edwin and Calista Ann (Luther) Lawson. She was raised in Lyndonville and graduated from Lyndon Institute in 1961. She went on to Champlain College where she obtained her Associates in Business in 1963. She married George L. Nichols in 1964. They settled in Lyndonville and had two children together, Brian and Kathleen. Marilee and George owned and operated Speedwell Gas until his death in 1991. In addition to being a successful businesswoman in partnership with her husband, she was also a devoted wife and mother. She was a mentor to several young people who felt a very strong bond with her that continued over multiple decades. She enjoyed world traveling, cooking, designing and gardening. In 2000, she took up winter residence in Sebring, Fla, where she was active traveling, playing golf and taking up pickle ball. She is survived by her mother Calista Lawson of Sebring, Fla.; her son Brian Nichols and his partner Kim Gammell of Lyndonville and grandchildren MacKenzie Nichols, Rylie Nichols, Dylanie Nichols, Kirbie Nichols, Cory Gammell and Erin Gammell; her daughter Kathleen Nichols and her partner Ric Messier of Lyndonville and granddaughter Izzy Dodge. She is also survived by her companion for the last 20 years, Don Chamberlain and his family. Marilee had a kind heart and has been a mentor to Jason Prendergast for the last 25 years. Marilee was not only the sister-in-law but also a mentor to Rachel Nichols Lamoureaux who lived with Marilee, George and their family before she got married. Later, Rachel along with her boys Philip, Bradley and Gregory lived with Marilee after George passed away. A memorial service will be held later in the spring in Lyndonville for Vermont residents to pay their respects. ....show of Calender Brook Road passed away Thursday, July 4, 2013 at his home while in the care of his loving family following a courageous battle with cancer. He was 55. Born on February 13, 1958 in St. Johnsbury, VT, he was the son of Earl B. and Lorraine (Legendre) Noyes. A lifelong resident of Lyndonville, he was a 1976 graduate of Lyndon Institute. On September 24, 1977, he married Ginger Ingalls. Rodger was employed as a salesman for New England Truck Tire. He enjoyed camping, traveling, snowmobiling, 4 wheeling, and Nascar. Besides his mother Lorraine (Legendre) Noyes, he is pre-deceased by a brother Brian Noyes. He leaves his wife of 35 years, Ginger Noyes of Lyndonville, VT, a son David Noyes and his wife Jennifer of Carthage, NY and a daughter Jessica Lawrence and her husband Scott of East Burke, VT. Grandchildren: Bryon, Isabella, Tyler, Quinten Noyes and Hailey and Brooke Lawrence. Sisters: Lenore Dwyer and her husband Gary of Lyndonville, Sandy Lepine of St. Johnsbury, and Karen Desrochers of Lyndonville. Several nieces, nephews, and cousins. ....show , 84, of St. Johnsbury, VT passed away at St. Johnsbury Health & Rehab, the morning of Thursday, January 24th, 2013 following a brief illness. Bud was born in Montpelier, VT on February 25, 1928, the oldest son out of eight children born to William Arthur Payette Sr. & Ella Pansyline Rock. Bud attended school in Peacham, VT & served in the United States Army from April 1946 to September 1947, where he was stationed in Japan. He served in the VT National Guard from August 1957 to April 1959. He was also a member of the Mason’s Washburn Lodge # 92 & the Field & Stream Club. Bud worked at Fairbanks Morse Scales for 44 years, as well as working part time for the Caledonia County Sheriff’s department for 13 years. He married Alona Ella Pearsons on July 30th, 1951 in St. Johnsbury Center, VT. Together they bought a home in 1959 in St. Johnsbury, where they lived for the past 53 years together. Bud loved to hunt, fish, and play his guitar and to go to his son’s camp in Sheffield, VT. Survivors include his wife of 61 ½ years, Alona Payette. His daughter, Deborah Payette Harpin & husband Mark of East St Johnsbury, VT. His son, Michael Payette & partner Laurie Rumo of Westbrook, ME. Granddaughters, Tanya Harpin& partner Ethan O’Brien of Danville, VT, Tiffany Murray &husband Jon of McIndoe Falls, VT, & grandson Kevin Payette of Mechanic Falls, ME. Four great grandchildren, who he referred to as his “Monkeydoodles;”Kaylee, Avah& Gunnar Ward and Aubriella Holden. Born on September 18, 1947 in Lyndonville, VT, he was the son of Francis N. and Gertrude M. Powers. Harold was a 1965 graduate of Lyndon Institute. During the Vietnam War, he served two tours of duty in the Seabees of the US Navy. He was a graduate of Lyndon State College and then taught school for 10 years at UD #37 in Sheffield. He was currently employed as a highway consultant with Bob Peters Construction. Besides his parents, he is pre-deceased by his son Luke Powers and a sister Norma Ruggles. He leaves his wife Janice of Sutton, two daughters: Kristen Heath and her partner Polly Pratt of Concord and Sarah Powers of Lyndonville. She attended schools in Lyndonville. She was married to Guy B. Rainey on April 30, 1949. Mr. Rainey predeceased her on May 1, 1988. Mary had worked at the Lyndon Center Post Office and store for many years and retired from the Postal Service in 1989. Mary loved working on the family farm, she was a huge animal lover and especially love driving her horses and enjoying her dogs. She is survived by one son, David Rainey and his wife Cindy of Lyndonville, VT and one daughter, Elaine Johnson and her husband Donald of Lebanon, CT; four grandchildren, Jeremy and Sarah Rainey of Wheelock, VT., Jenny and Brad Kennedy of Kingsland, Georgia, Kathryn Johnson of Baltimore, Maryland and Michelle Johnson of Northampton, PA; one great-grandchild, Levi Rainey of Wheelock, VT. She was predeceased by two brothers, Henry and Wallace Davis; and two half brothers, Harold and Cecil Mitchell and one great grandchild, Reuben Rainey. Lyndonville, VT - Robert Reid Rhinesmith
....show , a resident of Lyndonville, VT died Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at his home following a period of declining health. He was 94. Born on April 16, 1919 in West Milford, NJ, he was the son of Leslie and Heddie (Vanderbeck) Rhinesmith. Robert grew up in West Milford, NJ and was educated in Butler, NJ. In his youth, he worked at an apple orchard owned by Robert Reid his name sake. During World War II, he served in the US Marine Corps as a bombardier. He served in the Central Pacific area and participated in the Marianas Island Operations. He was also a survivor of the Battle at Iwo Jima and was honorably discharged on Nov 15, 1945, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. A month later on December 15, 1945, he married Eleanor Vreeland. For the next 45 years, they made their home in Ringwood, NJ and then retired to Vermont. After the war, Robert returned to his employment as a draftsman at Mack Molding Company in Wayne, NJ. He retired in 1984 after 41 years of service. Besides his loving wife of 60 years, Eleanor who died Jan 11, 2006, he is pre-deceased by siblings: Mildred Rhinesmith, Norman Rhinesmith, Leslie Rhinesmith, Amy Quinn, and Edith Welcher He is survived by a sister Margaret Masaitis and several nieces and nephews. Born on Sept. 1, 1916, near Newport, Vt., she was the daughter of Philias and Eugenia Bessette. A longtime resident of Lyndonville, Vt., she was employed in earlier years at Hill's Manufacturing, Palmer Brother's Laundry and retired from Ideal Upholstery in St. Johnsbury, Vt. Blanche was a communicant of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Lyndonville and she enjoyed gardening, horses, sewing, and doing upholstery. She is pre-deceased by her husband Ralph Sheltra (1967), a son Robert Sheltra, three sisters, and five brothers. She leaves her daughter Mrs. Gerard (Rose) Boulay of Lyndonville; five grandchildren: Robert and Michael Kennedy both of Lyndonville, James Kennedy of Wheelock, Brian Sheltra of St. Johnsbury, and Lori Sheltra; and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, June 3, at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, 642 Hill St., Lyndonville, VT. Burial will follow at St. Elizabeth Cemetery. He was born in Norwich, CT on June 28, 1925 the son of James W.K. and Florence Blanche (Tulley) Southouse. He graduated from schools in Connecticut. He was a United States Veteran having served during World War II. He was honorably discharged December 11, 1945 from Company A 313th Engineers. He served in Italy with the 34th Division, 109th Engineer Battalion landing on Anzio Beach and Participating in battles in Naples-Foggia, Rome-Arno, North Appennines and Po Valley. He retired as a sales Manager for Prudential Life Insurance Company after 17 years of service. He also worked at Vermont Tap and Die in the shipping department and Lyndon State College as a maintenance man at Burklyn Mansion and dorm father to 52 boys. He was a member of the Anglican Church in America in Danville, VT, Lay Reader and Senior Warden, he was a Past Master of the Cresent Lodge # 66 F.&A.M. in Lyndonville, VT., a member of the V.F.W Post and American Legion both of Lyndonville, VT and he also served on the Lyndon Select Board for several years. He is survived by his wife Marie Southouse; one daughter, Ellen Ohina and her husband John; two step-sons, Mark Rodgers and wife Dawn and John Rodgers and wife Brenda; one step-daughter, Diane Rodgers and her partner Kelly Young; ten grandchildren, Wendy and Shelby Williams, Megan Webster and husband Dan, Tyler, Jessica, Alexis, John, Derek, Violet and Ian Rodgers; three great-grandchildren, Isadora and Ayden Carpenter and Noah Webster and special caregiver Sue Demers and Tamieka He was predeceased by his first wife, Ruth Baird Southouse and two brothers, Thomas Southouse and James W.K. ....show of Wheelock went to be with her Lord and savior Jesus Christ surrounded by her family early Friday morning October 11, 2013 at Dartmouth Hitchcock Hospital in Lebanon, NH after battling various illnesses for the past 47 years. She was 72. A lifelong resident of the area, Linda was born in St. Johnsbury, VT, the daughter of Herman A. and Eva Mae (Lawson) Howland. She attended Lyndon Schools and on September 6, 1957, she married Harris “Stimp” William Stimpson, Jr. He predeceased her November 3, 2002. In addition to being a homemaker, she worked as a seamstress, bookkeeper, and held various positions supporting numerous community organizations. Linda enjoyed the hard work and the satisfaction of making a difference in the many lives she touched. Linda was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her greatest pride was her family and she loved her church family dearly. Linda was a friend to all who knew her. She enjoyed sewing and making quilts, crafts and clothing for family and friends. She was a longtime member of the Lyndonville United Methodist Church. Besides spending time with her family and friends, she enjoyed trips up and down the east coast over the past few years with her dear friend Ruth Blake. In earlier years, she enjoyed camping and snowmobiling with her husband Stimp and family. Her close friends Jim and Shelia Gallagher, Bob and Jennifer Fleming and Gil and Jean Downer were part of those many camping and snowmobile excursions. She is survived by her two sons LTC (Ret) William Stimpson and wife Teresa of Wheelock, MSG James Stimpson and wife Karen of Lyndonville; three grandsons, Christopher Stimpson of Laconia, NH, 1LT Matthew Stimpson and his wife Rebekah of Tacoma, WA, and Andrew Stimpson of Lyndonville; a great-granddaughter Madison Ann Stimpson of Laconia, NH; a sister Sharon Dean and husband Jerry of Ocala, FL; three brothers Robert Howland and wife Mary, Ronald Howland and companion Denise Doyon, and Donald Howland all of Lyndonville; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Jim was born on January 30, 1944 in Mineola, Long Island, the son of the late Frances Bedell. Over the years, Jim drove cement trucks and tractor trailers. He also enjoyed working as a drywall subcontractor. His favorite time was his daily drives downstreet to pick up the newspaper with his little buddy Scottie, Jim’s Prized Scottish Terrier. Jim loved to read and was excellent at crossword puzzles. He also loved his Tabasco sauce and black pepper. ....show , 73, of Concord, Vt., died on Jan. 27, 2013, at the St. Johnsbury Health and Rehab in St. Johnsbury, Vt. He was born on March 2, 1939, in Greenfield, Mass., the son of Harold and Anna (Pervere) Wright. He was married to Theresa Delia Lavigne who survives. Mr. Wright had been employed for ServiceNet Corporation in the construction and scrap yard business. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending quality time with all of his family, and his dog Honey. He is survived by his wife Theresa of Concord, Vt., his seven children, 26 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by three sons. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Lyndonville Bible Church in Lyndonville, Vt. Burial will be held at a later date.
