Sylvia Adams....show died September 1, 2012, at age 90. She began taking piano lessons and concertizing as a young girl. Music became her lifelong passion and career. At age 14 she took on her first piano student; she continued teaching until the present. She loved music and theater, whether performing or in the audience. Her wit and sense of humor were known to all; she had a keen interest in politics and an unwavering social conscience.
Sylvia was born May 20, 1922 in New York City to Kate (Kasten) and Israel Malin. She grew up in Nyack, NY and New York City. In addition to her piano studies, she attended Hunter College, where she majored in music, minored in psychology. During World War II, while working for the government in Washington, D.C., she met Howard Adams. When he returned from serving in the U.S. Army in Europe, they married and shared 62 loving and respectful years, working hard and delighting in travel all over the world. They lived in Nyack, NY; Vineland and Morristown, NJ; and moved to South Burlington in 1991 to be near their only child Miriam Adams, her husband Roger Kohn, and their beloved grandchild Nina Kohn.
Sylvia was predeceased by Howard, her parents, and her younger sister Ruth Mileski. She is survived by Miriam and Roger of Hinesburg; Nina and her husband Jeffrey Milder, and their son Oren Howard Milder, who reside in Ithaca, NY; and many wonderful friends.
