Eugene delaBruere
....show
, Early on Thursday, August 9, 2012, a beloved man died peacefully though unexpectedly in Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in the company of many family members. Eugene/Gene/Geno/Dad/mon oncle/Pepere was born October 22, 1937 in Canaan, VT the ninth of twelve children to Hector and Florentine (Lestage) deLaBruere. While he had just a few years of formal education, he delighted in reminding us that “I went to school three days and the teacher never showed up....the fourth day (and thereafter) has been a learning opportunity....”. On October 6, 1956, he married Irene Deslandes and to this happy marriage was born: Francois, wife Sandy, their children, Shawn Lanoue, wife Sheena and their children, Madison, Logan & Gavan; Lucien; Raymond, wife Tina, their children, Tim, spouse Thomas, Brent; Janet Gratton, husband Peter, their children, Jamie Petit, husband, Eric, their children Eli, Levi, Ruth; Nathan, Scott; David, wife Deborah, their children Stephanie, Samantha, Brian; Ivan, wife Nicole, their children, Joel, partner Sylvia, their child Estela, Desirae, Regan, Lianna; Debra Hamilton, husband Reed, their child, Landon. Through the years Gene worked in farming, in the woods, construction, factory work and then he found his passion for electrical work. He was a loyal employee of Newport Electric for 16 years. In early 1983 he and Irene established Gene’s Electric. He welcomed his son, David as a partner and Gene was always proud of the service/work Gene’s Electric provided. He was a man who leaves a rich legacy of lessons for all of us. His method of living was to teach by example: hard work, loyalty and always letting us know that he loved us, were his principles. In spite of numerous difficulties, he always made the best of what he had. He encouraged living within your means and being satisfied with what you have! Sadly, he lost Irene on July 14, 1988 following a hard fought battle with cancer. During her illness a special devotion to St.Anne was established. He often enjoyed Mass and a picnic with family at St.Anne’s Shrine, in Isle La Motte. The Catholic faith was always dear to his heart. Through the years, family was most important to Gene. He celebrated and was proud of the accomplishments of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren! His sense of humor, pranks and jokes were an important part of who he was and will be sorely missed by all who knew him. He loved music whether it was singing or whistling and especially playing his guitars. While he worked hard, he also made time for fun including cookouts especially the famous ‘corn roasts’, maintaining his pools, and horseshoes. In the more recent years he was able to enjoy the camper and boat at Seymour Lake–especially giving exhilarating tube rides! He was delighted to mow a large lawn with his zero turn mower. Snowplowing, snowmobiling, tending the pellet furnace and decorating for Christmas were a part of his winter pleasures. He did enjoy traveling especially when these adventures included additional family! On November 25, 1989 he married Maureen McGuire and was warmly welcomed by the extensive McGuire Clan. He reminded us often that he had married two “Santa Clauses”! This marriage also included her three horses. While he preferred trail riding, he enjoyed caring for the expanded herd of horses as well as the dogs and cats that shared his home. Additionally, he always supported and encouraged Maureen’s horse interests! He is survived by his sisters, Helen Routhier, Jeanne Harvey and Louise deLaBruere, husband Noel Boutin and brothers Gilles, wife Christine and John, wife Helena. Additionally, he leaves his mother-in-law, Margaret McGuire; Maureen’s siblings: Sheila Johnson, husband Gary; Kathleen Dolan, husband Gregory; Monica; Thomas, wife Stephanie; Barbara; Michael, wife, Cynthia. He is survived by the Deslandes family: Lorraine Brasseur, Norbert, wife Yvette; Roland, wife Bea; Lionel, wife Janice; Denise Corriveau, husband Bruno; Michael, wife Sandra. He leaves many beloved nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews of the delaBruere, Deslandes and McGuire families. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Irene; infant son, Paul; granddaughter, Renee; his parents and siblings--Roland, Maurice, Gerard, Roger, Therese and Rene.
