, 49, of Newport died on Sunday, November 6, 2011, in Burlington, surrounded by her beloved husband, Robert Schaaf, her sons, Nicolas Robert and John Charles, and family and friends. Born on July 18, 1962, she grew up in Union Beach, New Jersey, and moved to Atlantic Highlands, New Jersey, residing in Newport in 2006. She is survived by her father, George John Kruegel of Newport City; her brothers: Kenneth Kruegel of Spring Lake, New Jersey, John Kruegel of Stone Mountain, Georgia, and William Kruegel of Keyport, New Jersey; her sisters: Ellen Justin of Elizabeth City, North Carolina, and Joanne Burns of Little Egg Harbor, New Jersey; and by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her mother, Dorothy. Funeral services were held on November 9 in Newport. Interment followed in Lake Road Cemetery in Newport Center.

, 28, of Brownington died on Thursday, November 10, 2011, in Newport as the result of a tragic accident at his home. He was born in Newport on April 27, 1983. Mr. Simons went to school in Irasburg and graduated from Lake Region Union High School. He was handicapped but in his own way he touched so many lives and he had many friends. He enjoyed music, being outdoors, swimming, horseback riding, and he loved big trucks. He is survived by his mother, Kim Thompson, and her husband, Tom, and by his grandparents who adopted him, Earl and Brenda Simons. He is also survived by his sisters: Terri LaClair and her husband, Jeff, of Sutton, Lynn Farrand of Massachusetts, Kenni Ann Hawksworth and her husband, Joe, of Florida, and Shyanne Thompson and her friend, Benni, of Hardwick; his brothers: Thomas Thompson Jr. of Hardwick, Ronnie Simons and his wife, Sarah, of Coventry, Lance Simons and his wife, Carolyn, of New Hampshire, and Jay Simons and his wife, Julie, of Bolton; his great-grandmother, Maxine Kelley; his special cousin, Derrick Farrand of Newark; as well as by nieces, nephews, and cousins. He will be especially missed by his special second family, Bill and Claudia Bryant and their family, who provided many hours and days of care, love, and affection which included taking him to Maine as well as several other trips. A celebration of his life will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, November 16, at the Brownington Center Church with the Reverend Dan Prue officiating. Interment will take place at a later date in Lakeview Cemetery in Westmore. , 64, of Holland, died on October 31, 2011, after a long illness. Mr. Abdelnour was born on December 8, 1946, in Jacksonville, Florida, the son of Moses and Ollie (Abraham) Abdelnour. His father predeceased him. Mr. Abdelnour attended Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College in Miami, Oklahoma, where he played football, and graduated from the University of Miami in Miami, Florida. He deeply enjoyed sharing his love of football with youth, and was head coach of the North Country Junior Falcons for many years. Mr. Abdelnour's professional life included 30 years as a social worker with the state of Vermont Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services (SRS, now DCF). He assisted many children and families in difficult situations. He spent the last years of his career with SRS as an adoption social worker. He is survived by his wife, Ines Abdelnour, also of Holland; by his children: Scott Ponce and his wife, Ingrid, of Coral Gables, Florida, Allison Ponce and her husband, Thomas Bontly, of New Haven, Connecticut, and Thomas Abdelnour of Hartford, Connecticut; his grandchildren: Isabel and Elijah Ponce, and Adeline Bontly; his mother, Ollie Abdelnour, of Jacksonville, Florida; his brother, Thomas Abdelnour, of Ann Arbor, Michigan; his sister, Cynthia Ramski of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida; and by nieces and nephews. He will be missed by his dear aunt, Ida Davis, of Jacksonville. A private, family funeral will be held at the convenience of the family. , 88, formerly of Derby, died on November 3, 2011, at the Veterans Home in Bennington. He was born on December 8, 1922, in Derby, a son of Edmund and Lumina (Labonte) Before. He joined the U.S. Army in the mid-1940s and returned home to work for his father for over 30 years, and he was also a painter for about the same amount of time in both Florida and Washington state. In his later years, he enjoyed driving to Washington in the summer to visit two of his sisters, and stopping off in the fall, and then continuing on to Florida to spend the winter with family there. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 798 of Newport. Mr. Before is survived by his brothers: Henry Before, and his wife, Marilyn, of Montana, and Vincent Before and his wife, Joyce, of West Burke; his sisters: Cecile Lebeau of Newport, Theresa Cox and her husband, Jim, and Carmen Harter, both of Spokane, Washington, and Rita Riley of Florida; and by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Josephine, and by an infant sister. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, November 10, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Newport. , 59, of Derby died on November 1, 2011, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Burdick was born May 26, 1952, in Newport to Willard and Marjorie (Noe) Burdick. He graduated from Lake Region Union High School and continued his education at the University of Vermont and Vermont Technical College. Mr. Burdick worked for many years at The Landing Restaurant. At the time of his death, he was employed at Coldwell Banker All Seasons Realty and Belisle-Viens Associates and served on the board of directors of the Northern New England Real Estate Network. He was the association executive and treasurer for the Orleans County Board of Realtors. Mr. Burdick was very proud to be a member of The Church of God. He was awarded his third degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do on May 21, 2011. Mr. Burdick was also awarded Newport Chamber of Commerce's "Man of the Year" award in 1987. He was appointed to serve on the Travel and Recreation Council in 1987 by Governor Madeline Kunin. He was awarded Realtor of the Year in 1995, 1999, and 2008. Besides his wife of 27 years, Tracey Coburn-Burdick, he is survived by his two daughters and his son: Danielle and her husband, Lars, of Winooski, and Melissa and Jaden of Derby; two granddaughters: Annika and Stella Murdock; his mother, Marjorie Burdick; his brother, Everett Burdick and his wife, Cora, of Albany; his twin brother, Lawrence Burdick and his wife, Gertrude, of Orleans; his sister-in-law, Susan Burdick of Brownington; his sister-in-law, Sharon Morin and her husband, Michael, of Florida; his sister-in-law, Lori Coburn Webb and her husband, Michael, of New Hampshire; his sister-in-law, Jennifer Roy of Newport; his mother-in-law Paula Conover and her husband, Peter, of Newport; his mother-in-law Velma Coburn of Newport; and by many nephews and nieces. , 94, of Auburn, Maine, died on Saturday, October 29, 2011, at Clover Manor Health Care in Auburn with his loving family at his side. Mr. Croudis was born in Yarmouth, Maine, July 21, 1917, a son of the late William F. and Elizabeth E. (Ordway) Croudis. He attended local schools graduating from North Yarmouth Academy in 1935. He then attended Boston University graduating in 1948, receiving his bachelor of arts degree in music. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army having served his country from 1942 to 1945 during WWII in north Africa and Italy. After returning from the war, he married the love of his life, Lillian Denham, on May 18, 1946. They then made their home in Newport where he worked in the school system as a music teacher. He was an active member of the United Church of Newport where he also served as its choir director. Mr. Croudis was a member of the American Legion Post 21 of Vermont, the longest and oldest serving member of the Newport Rotary Club, the director of The North Country Music Festival in Newport for several years, and a member of the Vermont Music Educators. In his spare time, Mr. Croudis loved camping. Mr. Croudis is survived by his daughter, Catherine Croudis, of Lewiston, Maine; his nephews: John Wallace, Richard Dunham, David Preble, and Jeffrey Preble; and his nieces: Denise Ireland and Eileen Horton. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Lillian, and his brother, Bernard Croudis. A committal service was held November 5 in Yarmouth. , 88, of Newport died on November 3, 2011, in Derby, surrounded by her loving family. She was born August 8, 1923, in Newport Center, a daughter of Richard and Gertrude (Hazard) Smith. On October 31, 1959, she married Mahlon "Red" Eastman who predeceased her on December 24, 1998. Before moving to Vermont, she and her late husband lived in Hudson, Massachusetts, where she was employed by Koehler MFG. She was a former member of the Eagles Club in Hudson. She loved her cats and she enjoyed crocheting and attending the Seventh Day Adventist Church. She is survived by her children: Kathleen Bowen and her husband, Winston, of Derby, Carolin McCarthy and her husband, Raymond, of Derby, and Willard Armstrong of Waltham, Massachusetts; 12 grandchildren, six stepgrandchildren, and by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a daughter, Joyce, at the age of one; by two brothers: Elmer and Earl Smith; and by several stepsisters and stepbrothers. Funeral services were held on November 8 in Newport. died on Monday, October 31, 2011. Born and raised in Vermont, Mr. Lawson graduated from Lyndon State College, Champlain College, and served in the U.S. Navy in his younger years. Mr. Lawson was a happy soul who laughed and enjoyed Thanksgiving dinners. He was a family man dedicated to his work and golf. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends and will never be forgotten. He was a veteran of World War II and a graduate of a Lowell trade school. He was employed by General Electric for 24 years as a Heliarc welder. He enjoyed singing in choirs and was a member of the Lowell Opera Company for many years. He loved sailing with his 25-foot sailboat, camping with his family and building model airplanes. , 82, of Westfield died on November 4, 2011, at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire. Mr. Myott was born June 27, 1929, in Montgomery Center, the eldest son of Leon and Lizzie (Domina) Myott. He enlisted in the Army and later the Air Force where he served following World War II in Germany and received an honorable discharge. On February 3, 1951, he married Marion Willis. He worked as superintendent at the Vermont Asbestos Group in Lowell for 36 years and continued working in drilling and blasting until retiring in 2008. He also served as a volunteer fireman in Troy and was a member of the First Congregational Church of Westfield, and the Masonic Union Lodge #16 Free and Accepted Masons in Troy. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing weekly poker games at the Westfield Senior Center. He is survived by his wife, Marion, with whom he shared 60 wonderful years of marriage; his son, Steven Myott, of Westfield; his grandchildren: Caleb Myott and his wife, Jennifer, of Kernersville, North Carolina, Lia Myott Gilleski and her husband, Daniel, of New Bern, North Carolina, and Michael Luke Myott of Wilmington, North Carolina; and by his great-grandchildren: Juna Mikayla, Macy, and Mia Myott, and Evan Charles Gilleski. He was predeceased by his three brothers and two sisters. A private burial with full military honors will be held on Friday, November 11, in Westfield. , 50, died on Monday, October 24, 2011, at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital. Mr. Cole was born in Townshend on October 20, 1961, the son of Francis and Elaine (Arms) Cole. He grew up in Brookline and attended schools in Townshend and Brattleboro. He made his home in Wardsboro, Wilmington, Brattleboro, and, finally, Hinsdale, New Hampshire. He was employed in the food service business, most recently for Sodexho at the Brattleboro Retreat and in the kitchen at the Brattleboro Food Co-op. Mr. Cole was an avid Grateful Dead and Jerry Garcia fan. He loved the time he spent with his dad in the woods, hunting and enjoying nature, and he loved spending holidays and other anniversaries with his family in the Northeast Kingdom. He was baptized and joined the Centre Congregational Church in Brattleboro in 2004, and he took great joy in being a part of this church community. Mr. Cole truly appreciated his friends and caregivers who helped him live a productive life. Missy, his cat, was the joy of his life. Mr. Cole is survived by his parents, Francis and Elaine Cole of Derby; his sister Christine Cole of Newfane; his brother Kevin Cole of Townshend; and his sister Jennifer Cole of Newfane; as well as by numerous relatives. Mr. Cole was predeceased by his brother, Matthew Cole. , 53, of Barton, died suddenly on October 22, 2011, in Newport. She was born on November 19, 1957, in Willows, California, a daughter of Richard W. and Shirley L. (White) Mofield. On March 1, 1983 she married Stuart Cornell who survives her. Mrs. Cornell graduated from Oroville High School in California and also attended Chico State College in California. Mrs. Cornell was a very hard working woman and was the floor manager at the C&C Supermarket in Barton for seven years. She enjoyed making jewelry, gardening, decorative painting, traveling all over the world with her husband while he served in the United States Air Force, and spending time with friends and family which was very important to her. She was a very giving person helping anyone in need. Mrs. Cornell is survived by her husband, Stuart Cornell of Barton; two children: Aaron J. and Jason R. Cornell of Barton; her parents: Richard and Shirley Mofield of Virginia; a sister, Diane Mofield, and her husband, John Milan, of Virginia; her nieces and nephews: Chris and Melissa Faust, and Melissa and Erik McCoy; and by her great-niece and nephew, Emily and Connor McCoy. Elmer A. Hauver

, 89, of Newport Center died on October 26, 2011, in Barton. He was born August 10, 1922, in Newport, a son of Elmer and Mabel (Goodall) Hauver. On May 24, 1947, he married Lillian Lahar who predeceased him January 28, 2004. December 19, 2005 marked his retirement from Columbia Forest Products after 13 years of service. He attended the East School in Newport and served in the U.S. Army 122nd Medic Corps where he was a cook feeding 500 to 1,000 soldiers. Mr. Hauver held his first job running hoist for the logs at Atlas Plywood, now Columbia Forest Products, for five years. He then was a foreman at H.P. Hood & Son in Newport for almost 30 years until the business closed in 1976. He then retired from the Litton Industries, now Tivoly, after working almost ten years as a tool maker. In 1992 he worked as a janitor for a few months at the Newport Health Care Center. He also painted many homes and businesses in Orleans and the surrounding areas. He joined Columbia on December 22, 1992, as a watchman, a position he held until his retirement. He was a member of St. Mary's Star of the Sea Catholic Church of Newport, and a former member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 798. He also enjoyed gardening and playing cards. He is survived by his children: Jane Provoncha and Mary Hauver, both of Newport; his grandchildren: Sheri Letourneau and her husband, Patrick, of Newport Center, and Clint Provoncha and his wife, Heidi, of Coventry; his great-grandchildren: Storm Lamarche, Raven Letourneau, Clint, Casey, and Corey Provoncha and Christina Stevens; his great-great-granddaughter Caitlin Stevens; his sister-in-law Cecile Colburn of Newport; his brother-in-law Richard Bernier and his wife, Helen, of Coventry; his special friends Barbara Boutin of Derby, and Jim and Connie Turner of Newport; and by several nieces and nephews. , 91, of Derby Line died on October 29, 2011, in Newport. He was born August 22, 1920, in Derby, a son of Edmond and Marie (Moeykens) Lippens. He graduated from Derby Academy in the Class of 1939 and later received an honorable discharge certificate from the United States Marine Corps. Mr. Lippens was a district representative for Citizens Utilities for 34 years and he was a key player in supplying power to many areas in the Northeast Kingdom and to the top of Jay Peak. In his retirement, he was a lister for the town of Derby. His hobbies included snowmobiling, hunting, fishing, carpentry, cutting wood, and he was known for his large, enviable vegetable garden on West Street in Derby. He was a member the American Legion Post 21 of Newport, the Drift Dusters Snowmobile Club, county director of VAST, president of Drift Dusters, and a 69-year member of the Knights of Columbus. His favorite pastimes later in life were playing bridge and storytelling. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Ruth (Powers) Lippens; his son Bruce Lippens and his wife, Karen, of Derby; his daughter Patricia Hunt and her husband, W. She and her family moved to Albany in her early years where she was raised. She attended Lake Region Union High School and had taken several college courses. Ms. Tinker was talented both in music and in artistic venues. She played the flute and oboe and enjoyed music, dancing, decorating, and making jewelry. A very giving person, she will be missed by her many friends as well as her family.
