, 46, of Lowell died on April 28, 2011, in Newport. He was born August 20, 1964, in Newport, a son of Gerard and Mary (Murphy) Bonneau. He graduated from North Country Union High School in the class of 1982. Mr. Bonneau loved being a carpenter and making things out of wood. He was a member of the New Hope Bible Church of Lowell. He also enjoyed bowling and carving wood. He is survived by his sisters and brothers: Sharon Fowler and her husband, Jack, of Morrisville, Diane Ostrout and her husband, Tom, of Inverness, Florida, Terry Bonneau of Inverness, and Stephen Bonneau and his wife, Nanette, of Lowell; and by numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. , 74, of Albany died on Tuesday, April 26, 2011, at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire. He was born in Island Falls, Maine, on July 4, 1936, a son of Eugene and Juanita (Main) Brewster. He was raised by a foster mother and learned to be a hard-working and independant person. He served in the Canadian Army during the Korean Conflict and in the U.S. Army in Panama. He made his home in Maine, New Hampshire, and then in Florida where he worked as an auto mechanic. He met and later married Arlene Foss on September 3, 1999, in North Carolina. They moved north to Derby for about a year then made their home in Albany for the past ten years. Mr. Brewster enjoyed gardening, walking (as he had been injured and was told by a doctor he would never walk), and nature and history, especially that of the Native Americans. He was active in the Boy Scouts in Florida when his son was young, teaching him all about nature and camping, etc. Survivors include his wife, Arlene, of Albany; a son, Roy Brewster, and his wife, Sherry Ann, of Lebanon, Pennsylvania; grandson Edward Cross; stepdaughters Laurie Miller of Morrisville, Pennsylvania, Sherry Spraggins of Colchester, Tammy Horgan and Carol Cady of Coventry, and Kelly Wills of Greensboro Bend; stepson Michael Whitcavitch of Hardwick; two nieces, Denise and Roxanne; and three nephews, Clarence, David, and Roger Rairdon. He was predeceased by a daughter, Kathrine Cross, who died in an auto accident at the age of 20, and a sister, Norma Rairdon. No services will be held at this time.

, 65, died on April 28, 2011, at his family's home in Port St. Lucie, Florida. He was born August 5, 1945, in Peabody, Massachusetts, a son of Carl and Corinne (Sheltra) Brown. He graduated from Orleans High School in 1964. He served in the Army. He married Lynn (Lawson) Brown in 1965. They lived in Vermont until 1985 when they moved to Florida. While living in Vermont, he was a member of the American Legion in North Troy. He started Little League teams, and he was one of the first five people to start the Missisquoi Ambulance Service. His interests included snowmobile racing, Nascar racing, and spending time with his family. While living in Florida, he was a member of the West Palm Beach Elks Lodge #1352 and the Lake Worth Moose Club #994. He was an avid supporter of the Elks Youth Camp in Umatilla, Florida. His work, which he absolutely loved, consisted of driving bus for tour companies and truck driving. Mr. Brown is survived by his wife of 45 years, Lynn (Lawson) Brown; three sons and their spouses: Allen and Tammy Brown, Paul and Meredith Brown, Gordon and Annette Brown; one daughter and her spouse, David and Lori Williams; ten grandchildren: Jason, Ashlie, Brittnee, Nicole, Ashley, Mitchell, Andrew, Trent, Dylan, and Alyssa; three great-grandchildren: Jason Jr., Althea, and Jonathan; three brothers and one sister, Ronald Brown, Ross Brown, Larry Brown, and Linda (Brown) Fadden; sister-in-law Charlotte (Brown) Gill; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter Laurie Anne; his son Joseph Lee; his brother Robert; his parents, Carl and Corinne Brown; his spouse's parents, Gordon and Pearl Wheeler and Jack and Alice Lawson; and by brother-in-law Jim Fadden. , 88, of Newport died on April 28, 2011, in Newport. She was born October 2, 1922, in Brownington, a daughter of Bruce and Antoinette (Marc Aurele) Bouthillier. On June 7, 1941, she married Florio Laramie who predeceased her on September 25, 1990. On February 22, 2000, she married William Burgess Sr. who also predeceased her on April 5, 2010. Mrs. Burgess was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Ladies of St. Anne. She was employed by the following businesses: the former Kennett Restaurant, Border Motel restaurant, Eastside Pharmacy and Bogner of America. Mrs. Burgess was an avid bingo player and she loved playing cards with her family. She enjoyed cooking for her family, especially making meat pies, chicken pot pies, and doughnuts. After her retirement, she and Mr. Laramie worked a small upholstery business out of their home. She later taught a few upholstery classes at North Country Adult Services. While she was married to Mr. Burgess, she enjoyed summers at his camp on Seymour Lake in Morgan. She is survived by her children: Pauline Sheehan and her husband, Dick, of The Villages, Florida, Susan Monfette and her husband, Craig, of Newport, Raymond Laramie and his wife, Diane, of Newport; by stepson William Burgess Jr. and his wife, Karen, of Lebanon, New Hampshire; by her grandchildren: Craig Monfette and his wife, Melba, of West Monroe, Louisiana, Brian Pulver and his wife, Sue, of Enfield, Connecticut, Michelle Lamothe and her fiancé, Tim Carty, of Swanton, Peter Pulver and his wife, Sue, of Newport, Danny Monfette and his wife, Sam, of East Burke, Philip Laramie and his wife, Melissa, of Newport, and Christopher Laramie and his fiancée, Kendra Hinchliffe, of Winooski; by 15 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by great-grandson Joey Monfette; great-great-granddaughter Alaina Monfette; and by the following siblings: Tony, George, Tom, Lucille, Rose, Claire, Jeannette, Simone, and Raymonde. Funeral services were held on May 2 at St. Mary's Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Newport where a Mass will be celebrated. Interment followed in St. Mary's Cemetery. , 83, of Ellsworth, Maine, and the Burlington area, the beloved wife of Arthur Comtois, died on April 27, 2011, at an Ellsworth, Maine Hospital. She was born July 6, 1927, in Granby, Quebec, a daughter of Rodolphe and Alice (Simard) Deslandes. Mrs. Comtois lived in Williston for 28 years before moving to Ellsworth to be closer to her family. She enjoyed playing golf, duplicate bridge, and spending time with family and friends, especially her grandchildren. In addition to her husband of 61 years, Arthur Comtois, of Ellsworth, she is survived by her daughter Dianne Goodenough and her husband, David Jonathan, of Birch Harbor; two grandsons, Adam Arthur Goodenough and his wife, Sujata Gupta, of San Francisco, California, and Ryan Thomas Goodenough and his wife, Emily Sandefer, of Albany, New York; one brother, Patrick Deslandes, of Magog, Quebec; one sister, Alice Charbonneau, of Burlington; two sisters-in-law, Rita Deslandes of Troy and Jeannette Deslandes of Newport; a special friend and Mr. Comtois- sister, Lillian Tessier, of Burlington; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. , 86, of Morrisville, died on Saturday, April 23, 2011, at Copley Hospital in Morrisville. He was born in Wolcott on February 23, 1925, a son of Glen L. and Lillian (Marckres) Darling. He attended graded school at the East Hill School in Wolcott, then in Eden. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. On November 18, 1961, he married Theresa Morris, and they made their home in Portsmouth, Rhode Island, where Mr. Darling was a landscape gardener for several large estate homes. He retired to Vermont in 1997 following the death of his wife. He enjoyed fishing and some hunting though he was limited by his health conditions. He loved family gatherings and outings. His memories included working at the National Zoo in Washington D.C. during the time he was stationed in the area while serving in the Navy. He leaves a brother, Donald Darling Sr., and his wife, Beryl, of Craftsbury; son-in-law Gary Wright of Eden; brother-in-law Winston Dezaine of Craftsbury; many nieces and nephews; and extended family. He was predeceased by his wife, Theresa; two daughters, Kathleen Darling and Dorothy (Darling) Wright; two sisters, Lois Butler as well as her husband, George, and Dorothy Dezaine; and stepson Christopher Morris. A graveside service will be held at the Plains Cemetery on Garfield Road in Hyde Park on Wednesday, May 11, at 11 a.m.

, 76, of Barre died on Friday, April 22, 2011, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington. Born in Barton on May 10, 1934, he was a son of the late Olin and Laura (Gigure) Gleason. Mr. Gleason attended schools in Barton. He served his country in the U.S. Army in 1956 and 1957. After the service he moved to Groveton, New Hampshire, where he was employed as a lumberjack. He later worked as a farmhand helping farmers in his area. On February 21, 1959, he married Elaine Hair in North Woodstock, New Hampshire, where they made their home for a short time before moving to Barre. He retired in 1986 due to ill health. He enjoyed watching TV, especially wrestling and western movies. He also enjoyed the outdoors. He liked to keep busy, doing yard work, reading, and painting houses. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Elaine Gleason, of Barre; six children: Laura Gleason of Orleans, Larry Gleason Jr. of Barre, Doris Royce of Washington, Denise Gleason of Barre, and Brian Gleason of Portland, Oregon; as well as 13 grandchildren and one great-grandson. Besides his parents he was predeceased by all of his brothers and sisters and by one son, Steven Gleason. To honor his wishes there will be no funeral services or calling. There will be a gathering May 21 in Holland.

died peacefully in her ninety-ninth year on April 16, 2011, in Starr Farm Nursing Center, lovingly surrounded by her family. Being possessed of a strong love of music, art and history, she has gone to join the singers. She was born August 17, 1912, in Groveton, New Hampshire, a daughter of Wesley O. and Mary Hight Emerson. Her grandfather, Horace Emerson, fought with the 8th Vermont Regiment in the Battle of Cedar Creek in 1864. Mrs. Hayford graduated valedictorian of her 1930 class at Lyndon Institute, attended Lyndon Normal School, and graduated from Boston University. For a $700 annual salary, she taught in a one-room school in Burke. Other school positions included Passumpsic, East Barnet, Burr and Burton Academy, and Orleans High. In 1964, after receiving her master's degree in French from Middlebury College, she became head of the foreign language department at South Burlington High School, where she retired in 1973. Her love of French inspired her to make many sojourns to Paris. She was a gentle, loving person with a strong independent spirit and a great enthusiasm for taking the road less traveled and forming new friendships. Her home was always warm, welcoming and open, like her heart, to all who might enter it. Helen and her husband, Jim, formed enduring friendships with many: the Mosher, Keiser, Barrows, Yale, Craig, Collins, Eschholz, Sorrell, Bergeron, Chaffee, Bruce, Older, and many other families and individuals. For 57 years, she was her husband's sounding board for the poems he spun and his helper in the music done in schools and community and church choirs. In her own right, she was a talented singer and teacher. She especially enjoyed attending the Bread and Puppet Theater each summer in Glover with family. Mr. Hayford died in 1993, and her brother Clare in 1974. She is survived by her son James (Jamie-Jim) and his wife, Lucy; her daughter Stephanie Pizzagalli; her son Curtis Brown; her ex-daughters-in-law: Jean Anker and Deniele Hayford and her husband, David; her four grandchildren: Cynthia Rock and her husband, Ron, Ellen Miller and her husband Tom, Emily Bisson and her husband, J.P., and Evan; her five great-grandchildren and three step-grandchildren; and nephew Wes Emerson and his wife, Judy. Her smile will be missed by countless friends and former students. Special thanks to the staff of Starr Farm and Cynthia Rock for their compassionate care. , 65, of Ferryland, Newfoundland, Canada, formerly of Newport, died on March 9, 2011, after a courageous battle with cancer and its complications. He was born April 29, 1945, a son of Emma and Arthur Jordan Sr. He was the beloved husband of Lana O-Neil, a former teacher at North Country Union High School. He is survived by several brothers and sisters, his mother, his in-laws, and many nieces and nephews, cousins, and dear friends. Funeral services were held at Holy Trinity Church in Ferryland with burial at the Holy Trinity Cemetery and a reception at the Legion Hall in Ferryland. Mr. Jordan came home to Ferryland to retire and build his dream home. He did, and then he was "called home."

, 79, of Orleans died on April 27, 2011, in Barton. She was born on October 18, 1931, in Coventry, a daughter of Stanislaus and Irene (Hamel) Pollander. She moved to Connecticut during the Great Depression. She attended eighth grade at St. Joseph School in New London, Connecticut, in the class of 1947. After school, she moved back to Brownington where the family farmed. Mrs. Lafleur married Richard Lafleur on May 24, 1958. He survives her. After their marriage, the young couple moved to Orleans. In 1959, they moved to Irasburg, to their first home on Route 58. In 1972 the family grew and moved to the village of Irasburg. Mrs. Lafleur and her husband sold the family home in 2007 and moved back into an apartment in Orleans where it all began. Mrs. Lafleur was a member of St. Theresa's Catholic Church, a former member of the Daughters of Isabella in Orleans, and was the past president of the Parent Teachers Association at the Irasburg Elementary School. She liked building puzzles, knitting, playing bingo, and reading. She loved her cat Kitty and animals in general. She is survived by her husband, Richard Lafleur, of Orleans; her five children: David Lafleur and his wife, Michele, of Glens Falls, New York, twins Paul Lafleur of Portland, Maine, and Wayne Lafleur and his wife, Cheryl, of Barton, Bryan Lafleur and his wife, Laura, of Cherokee, Iowa, and Colleen Doty of Lyndonville; by 15 grandchildren; her brother Philip Pollander and his wife, Barbara, of West Palm Beach, Florida; and by three sisters: Joan Souliere of Newport, Pauline Ryan of Barton, and Nancy Creswell and her husband, Greg, of Newport Center. She was predeceased by two brothers, Aldie and Francis Pollander, and by a sister Joanie Blay. Funeral services were held on May 2 at St. Theresa's Catholic Church in Orleans with the Reverend Sixmund Nyabenda celebrating a Mass. Interment followed at the Irasburg Cemetery.

, 93, died on Easter Sunday, April 24, 2011, at Copley Hospital with her family by her side. She was the eldest daughter of Ernest and Gladys (Luther) Clark, born January 25, 1918. She was the last family member of her generation to pass. She married Maynard Marckres on September 6, 1935. She spent most of her life in Craftsbury and Morrisville as a homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. Aside from enjoying time with her family, Mrs. Marckres spent many hours knitting and donating her work to people in need. She and her husband enjoyed trips to Old Orchard with special friends Pat and Louise Gillen, and to Florida with family. She leaves a daughter, Marilyn Bradley, and her husband, James, of Morrisville; a son, J. Fred Marckres, and his wife, Oleta, of Eden; eight grandchildren: Rhonda Gilcris, Kevin Bradley, James Bradley, Julie Marckres, Jerri Hurlburt, Daniel Marckres, Michelle Fellows, and Jennifer Draper; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Maynard; her son Donald and his wife, Janet; her parents; her brother Newton Clark; her sister Frances Nichols; granddaughter Stacey Bradley; and great-grandson Justin Marckres. , 89, of Irasburg died suddenly on April 28, 2011, in Newport. He was born June 12, 1921, in Brownington, a son of Benjamin and Almeda (Gilbert) Powers. On April 25, 1942, he married Anna R. (Becky) Fisher who survives him. Mr. Powers entered the U.S. Army and served his country in Germany during World War II. He was a self-employed trucker. He held memberships with the American Legion Post #23 of Orleans and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #798 of Newport. Mr. Powers was an avid bingo player, and he enjoyed making lawn ornaments and sugaring. He also raised many cats and dogs. He is survived by his wife, Anna Powers, of Irasburg; by four children: Beverly Slack of Thetford Center, Stephen Powers and his wife, Carolyn, of Anderson, South Carolina, Rachel Powers of Tampa, Florida, and Sharon McCormick of Barton; seven grandchildren: Elwyn Brooks, Carolyn Kanalos, Jeffrey Brooks, Jennifer Powers, Deborah McCormick, Cynthia Royer, and Susan Larose; by nine great-grandchildren; by a sister, Stella Barteau, of Northfield; and by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by a brother; two sisters; three half-brothers; and three half's isters. was a complex personality. He was something special to everyone he met. He was a husband, father, grandfather, postal employee, and friend. He also was a fisherman who lived and breathed fishing the rivers around Orleans. Hundreds of people knew him as the guy who had "TROUT" on his license plate. Many of his friends knew him as one of the best fishermen on any river. We will celebrate Mr. Sprout's life on May 7 at 11 a.m. at the falls in Orleans where the rainbows jump. A gathering will follow at Orleans American Legion Post #23 where stories and a toast will be offered.
