Lyman, Mark Edward
....show
, On August 28, 2011 my wonderful husband left me the only way he ever would. Mark Edward Lyman was born March 01, 1957 in Greenfield, MA to Nancy Jandro Lyman and Richard Edward Lyman. The couple divorced soon after Mark's birth. He received his early education in Greenfield where he was near his beloved grandmother Myrtle Jandro Potter. When he was nine, his mother remarried. Mark's stepfather adopted Mark and his older brother Doug, changing their surnames to his. The family moved to Reading, MA, where his younger brother Todd was born. In 1972 the family moved to Woodstock, VT. The next year Mark started working as a groundskeeper for Nelson Rockefeller. After graduating from Woodstock High School, Mark began working at the Woodstock Inn, ending up as the night auditor. In 1978 Mark attended Roger Williams College, where he graduated in the top 3% of his class, despite a severe reading disability. He was hired as a full time Windsor County deputy after graduation. For the next 15 years he worked for the Department of Public Safety. He then became a first rate salesman. First of cars, then mortgages, furniture and finally as a service writer. Before his third marriage, he chose to return to his birth name. For the past 2 years of declining health he has been under the care of his devoted companion and wife Wendy-Ann Durkee. Mark was predeceased by his father, who was killed in a motor vehicle crash, his adoptive stepfather Donald Leon Gray and his grandmother Myrtle. He leaves his heartbroken wife Wendy-Ann and her father Roy Durkee of Shoreham, VT. Other survivors include his mother Nancy Gray, younger brother Todd and his wife Kandy and their children Addie and Alex, all of Woodstock; his older brother Doug Gray and his wife Lynn of NY; Doug's ex-wife Kathy and their children Matthew and Michael. Special friends include the Willis clan of Newport, VT; former co-workers Jack Himmelsbach and Heather Meyers, who were the only people with enough personal integrity to stand by an innocent man. Not far from his thoughts and forever in his heart are Scott Alyward, his stepson of his first marriage, and Nicholas Allen Jackson. There will be no service. Interment of his ashes will be split between his home near his beloved dog Abby and near Myrtle. Memorial contributions can be sent to either the American Diabetes Association in the name of Myrtle Jandro Potter or to the Humane Society of your choice in Mark's name. Heartfelt thanks to Addison County Hospice and Addison County Hospice Volunteer Services for giving us enough support so Mark could die in comfort of his own home, which was his wish.
