, 25, of Sherwood Drive, Montpelier died Friday, August 26, 2011 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Ty, as he was known to family and friends, was born in Berlin, Vt. on November 5, 1985, the son of William R. & Jamie (McCann) Pryce. He was a beloved son, brother, grandson, cousin, nephew and friend to all who knew him.
Ty attended public schools in Montpelier and was a 2004 graduate of Montpelier High School. He attended New Hampshire Community Technical College, studying telecommunications.
Ty was an avid sports enthusiast, having played baseball and soccer up through the years, but hockey held a special place in his heart. Almost from the time he could stand, Ty had a hockey stick in his hand, coming up through the Central Vermont Sports Association youth hockey league.
Ty was a four-year varsity player on the Montpelier High School hockey team. He carried on the tradition of wearing #12 on his hockey jersey, the same number his father wore, also a standout high school hockey player. Ty was also an unabashed Montreal Canadians fan, chiding family and friends for their allegiance to his arch-nemesis team, the Boston Bruins. He was also a devoted Red Sox fan.
Anyone who knew Ty knew his love for motorcycles and cars. He loved attending car shows and probably had as many pictures of vehicles on his camera as he did family and friends. True to his nature, he worked as a parts assistant at Twin City Subaru in Berlin at the time of his death.
Ty had a cadre of close friends that would fill a stadium, many he had known since grade school. He was known for his infectious smile and had an admitted goofy sense of humor that will be sorely missed. He was a hero to his many cousins, who looked up to his 6 foot 3 frame in more ways than one. Ty had an extraordinary close relationship with his sister, Haley, and showed a very special side of his wonderful personality to his girlfriend, Elizabeth Sinclair.
Tyler is survived by his parents, Bill & Jamie of Montpelier; sister, Haley A. Pryce of Montpelier; paternal grandmother, Doris A. Pryce of Montpelier; maternal grandfather, Arthur J. McCann, Jr. of Lyndonville; his soulmate, Elizabeth Sinclair of East Montpelier; aunts & uncles; Scott & Janet Pryce of Middlesex; Cristine Pryce and partner Fred Varney of Calais; Julie & Martin Kelley of Berlin; Casey & Christine McCann of Lafayette, Calif.; Kellie Pearson of Santa Barbara, Calif.; Darcie McCann and husband Douglas Steward of Lyndon; Demsey & Corrie McCann of Montpelier; and 19 cousins.
He was pre-deceased by his paternal grandfather, William R. Pryce, Jr.; maternal grandmother, Beverly D. McCann and uncle, Stephen M. Pryce.

Montpelier, VT - James Meyers Ritvo
....show
, cherished husband, father, uncle, brother, brother-in-law, and friend, passed away on August 10, 2011. All of us who loved Jim Ritvo, and there are many, will remember him as an exceptionally smart, compassionate, and delightfully funny man who approached the world with unshakeable kindness. No one can recall Jim saying a harsh word about anyone, with the exception of a few politicians, criminals, and the occasionally careless Patriot, Celtic, or Red Sox player.
Jim's world centered on his adored wife Marjorie and their children Jesse and Molly. Their circle of consummate devotion is profoundly altered by their loss. The tremendous support of family and friends is gratefully acknowledged and will continue to be needed.
Jim was born in 1946 in Newton, Massachusetts. He graduated from Tufts University and was awarded a Master's Degree in Urban Affairs from St. Louis University. His law degree was from Boston University College of Law. In 1975 he and Marjorie moved to Vermont and Jim began a thirty-year private law practice which specialized in helping families negotiate the legal system. His courtroom brilliance and his devotion to people in need merged with an antic but gentle sense of humor and earned him the nickname of “St. Jim” in northern Vermont. Jim was the president and one of the founders of Woodbury College in Montpelier. His dedication to justice in law and in life attracted excellent faculty colleagues and set Woodbury College on its course toward providing educational, legal, and family services to its students and clients.
Jim's life was always aimed toward fairness, whether in court or, later in life, in film. Many of us remember “132 Main,” Jim's weekly show on local cable access TV. He interviewed, with charm and delicacy, many people who have contributed to the richness of our lives in Vermont. His documentary films include “One Family: An Ethiopian Adoption”; “The Red Wagon: Facing Hunger,”; “On the Edge: Holes in the Vermont Health Care Safety Net”; and several films about art and education in Vermont. Turning from practicing law to film, Jim felt that the elements of being a good lawyer – being able to tell a client's story convincingly to a judge and jury – were directly applicable to documentary film making.
As deeply serious as his commitments were to the public good, Jim knew how to have fun. Sitting with friends and family at his dining room table, Jim told hugely entertaining stories. He celebrated his 40th birthday with a big party at a roller skating rink. He spent Sunday mornings walking, swimming, skiing, watching baseball games and developing elaborate baseball statistics, always in the company of family and often his three especially dear friends Steve Pitonyak, Peter Collins, and Bob Buchicchio.
Jim was wise, patient, and calm, which made him an exceptional listener and mentor. In Yiddish there is the word “mensch” to describe the decency, honor, warmth, kindness, intelligence, and steadfast character that one finds only in people who are beloved. Jim was a mensch. His life has added to the sum of good in the world.
A celebration of Jim's life was held at Beth Jacob Synagogue on August 12, 2011.
People who wish to honor Jim's life by making a charitable donation might consider Beth Jacob Synagogue in Montpelier, Ohavi Zedek Synagogue in Burlington, the Vermont Food Bank, and Focus on Film in Montpelier.

Montpelier, VT - Patience (Patty) Gray Rosebery
....show
passed away May 5th, 2011, at Central Vermont Hospital, with her family and friend Desiree Gadsden by her side after a courageous battle with cancer.
Daughter of Marion Simpson Gray and Russell Gray, Patience Edna Gray was born Sept. 5th, 1937, in St. Johnsbury, Vermont. At the age of three, she and her family moved to East Charleston. Then, following the war, they settled on a farm in Kirby, where her mother and father were dairy farmers. At a young age Patty assumed the responsibility of milkmaid and other farm chores. In 4H, she won many red ribbons showing her calves.
Patty attended a one-room school house in Lyndon, maintaining straight A’s throughout her school years. She was a good athlete and could beat the fastest boy on the track team at sprinting. Graduating from high school with honors, Patty went on to Mary Hitchcock School of Nursing in Hanover, NH, where she maintained her Dean’s list status. It was here she met her future husband, Frank Rosebery, and they were married shortly after graduation.
Patty began her nursing career in a trauma unit in Manhattan. Then she and Frank spent several years in Mexico City and Acapulco where Patty worked in clinics and Frank worked as a newspaper journalist. Following their divorce in 1969, Patty worked in a trauma unit in Los Angeles.
In the early 70’s, Patty returned to New York City and became a head nurse and supervisor of the intensive care unit of North Shore Hospital in Manhasset, NY. Next she worked at Long Island College Hospital in Brooklyn as assistant head nurse in the cardiac care unit until she retired. Patty was very exacting in her nursing standards, a true professional, well liked and respected by her peers. She expected colleagues in her unit to perform to the same standards she set for herself, evident by finger wagging at some of her fellow nurses. She was extremely kind to her patients and had a warm bedside manner. Apart from work, Patty thoroughly enjoyed the arts in NYC, regularly attending the theater, ballet, opera, and museums. From childhood, Patty had a love for animals, especially cats, and always had them as pets – her children in fur coats. In NYC, she fed all the homeless cats at her backdoor. Family ties were important to Patty, and brought her to Vermont for holiday celebrations.
Upon retirement, she moved back to Vermont, and resided in Montpelier on Freedom Drive. It is here where she cared for her mother Marion in her final years. Always a leader, it was natural for Patty to become president of the condominium association. She assumed responsibility for upgrades needed throughout the complex, and made sure contractors towed the mark. If you said you were going to be there at 8 a.m., you’d best be there or she would be calling you. Thus, she affectionately acquired the nickname “the Sarge,” which she loved! An avid gardener, Patty also took on the role of beautifying the grounds, creating lovely gardens throughout the condo complex.
Patty had an engaging social life with her many friends, graciously hosting parties through the years. She always had Thanksgiving at her home so that none of her friends would lack a place to go for the holidays. A lively bridge partner, Patty played weekly. In Vermont, her interest in the arts continued with friends on trips to museums, opera, and ballet in Montreal, NYC, Boston, and Saratoga. Patty was classy, dressing for occasions with furs and jewelry. Experiencing life to the fullest, in recent years Patty traveled to China, North Africa, the Greek Isles, Italy, and Northern Europe. With close friends on this side of the ocean, she enjoyed a scenic train trip across Canada to California.
Patty was intelligent and well read, kind yet strong, compassionate, and always ready to give someone a helping hand. Socially and community minded, she was generous in her support of charities.
She is predeceased by her mother, Marion Gray, her father Russell Gray. Survivors are her brother, Arthur Gray and his wife Donna of Montpelier. Her nephew, Mathew Gray & wife Kat & neice Megan of Woodstock. Her nephew, Erik Gray & wife Tricia of Burlington. Her stepmother Gloria Gray of St. Johnsbury. Her sister, Rachel Demers and husband Guy of St. Johnsbury. Her sister, Judy Allard and her husband David of Lyndonville. Sylvia LaCourse & her husband Gilman of St. Johnsbury, Marjorie Carter of W. Burke. Keith & Kyle Gray of St. Johnsbury. Leslie Degreeier of St. Johnsbury. Her neice, Desire Rice & her husband Joshua of St. Johnsbury. Goddaughter, Tana Young of Torrance, California. We want to thank the nurses of Central Vermont Hospital for the quality care that Patty received.
The wake will be held on Friday, May 20th 6-8pm at Guare & Sons Funeral Home. The celebration of her life will be held at the Unitarian Church in Montpelier on Saturday, May 21st at 12pm.
Donations to the Kellogg-Hubbard Library, 135 Main St, Montpelier, Vt. 05602 can be made in lieu of flowers in Patty’s name.

South Burlington, VT - George Wayne Thomas
....show
, 99, most recently of The Pines Senior Living Community in South Burlington, died peacefully surrounded by members of his family on September 21, 2011, at the Burlington Health & Rehabilitation Center.
He was born in Montpelier on May 28, 1912, the son of Pearl (Kellogg) and George Thomas. He grew up in Middlesex and attended school in Middlesex and Montpelier including the Montpelier Seminary, which later became Vermont College.
George Wayne started working at an early age helping neighboring farmers in Middlesex hay their fields, collect sap buckets, mend fences, and anything else that would raise a little pocket money. As the eldest child, he also would often barter his services in exchange for milk, eggs, wood or other supplies to help his family. In between chores, he enjoyed reading Zane Grey westerns, and liked to recall summer afternoons reading them under a shade tree. After high school, he started working with a friend of his father’s at a granite shed in Montpelier, and then took a job at the Socony Service Station on State Street, before moving on to many other types of service oriented jobs that became available to him.
On June 30,1933, he married the love of his life, Dorothy Frances Cooney of Middlesex. They were wed at the home of Rev. Hazelton of Waterbury, and were married for 71 years.
On July 30, 1942, George enlisted in the Armed Forces, where he was assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division after extensive training as a paratrooper and attained the rank of Sergeant. On Feb. 9, 1946 he was honorably discharged after serving almost 4 years in France and Germany but continued working as a civilian for the military in Frankfurt, Germany before coming home to Vermont in 1947.
George and his wife Dorothy made their home in Burlington for many years, where he started Burlington Office Supply, which served the Burlington area for many years. George could repair most any type of typewriter, adding machine, mimeograph or other business equipment of the day.
Wayne, as family and many of his friends called him, was a passionate pool player and, in his later years, his days revolved around playing pool with his friends at the Pines Senior Living Community. He could teach most anybody to play pool, and had a wide assortment of pool tricks up his sleeve. JOHN JEPSON WULFF
....show
of Middlesex, Vermont passed away peacefully in the presence of his beloved wife, Patricia Neely Washington, and dedicated staff in the early morning hours on November 9, 2011 at the Berlin Health and Rehabilitation Center. His mother had passed away in the same place and on the same date 27 years prior.
Dr. Wulff was born in New Haven, Connecticut on July 29, 1925, the son of Hannah Susie (Jepson) and Johannes Wulff. His grandparents were born in Denmark. Jepson grew up with his younger sister Dorothea in Chester, Connecticut where his parents were owners of the Chester Nursery on property that adjoined their home. This early introduction to native and ornamental plants and shrubs helped to instill a lifelong love of landscaping and gardening, including the planting and loving care of one of the most impressive rhododendron gardens in all of Vermont. Summer isn’t officially here until “Jepson’s Rhododendrons” come into full glorious bloom.
Dr. Wulff earned his B.A. from Yale University in 1948. He was a Veteran of WWII, and what was later referred to as the split class of 1945 W (war), along with many other students attending Yale at the time of the attack on Pearl Harbor, Jepson enlisted in the armed services and put college on hold until he returned from duty. He underwent Army basic training at Fort Bragg, NC, and became an expert Army Marksman; he also trained as an army medic, and eventually served in the South Pacific.
In 1954, Dr. Wulff earned his PhD in Experimental Psychology from Yale University. At the beginning of his professional career in the 1950s,
(as he liked to explain) “by chance, I became involved in Aerospace Engineering”. While working as a consultant for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, he first began to develop his system design way of thinking, which defined his work throughout most of his life. A report that he and co-workers prepared for NASA was entitled: A Simple Model of a Man-Machine Development Cycle (still in print on-line). From this effort evolved his theories on how to solve problems associated with complex system development. From this chance beginning, Dr. Wulff began to apply what he had learned to the design and development of human services and health care systems.
In the mid-70’s Dr. Wulff co-founded The Human Ecology Institute, with offices in Montpelier, VT.
From 1973-1980, Dr. Wulff was a member of the faculty of Harvard University Graduate School of Design and of the Florence Heller School for Advanced Studies in Social Welfare at Brandeis University.
In 1985, Dr. Wulff co-founded Learning Services, a Boston based company that was a leading provider of rehabilitation for persons with acquired brain injury across the country.
During the mid-1990’s to 2008, Dr Wulff’s focus was on authoring the book entitled A HEALTH DELIVERY SYSTEM, which addresses the whole of health services delivery in one model. In his own words, “my book is not about reform; rather, I present a complete new system design, which serves all citizens.” Dr. Wulff passed away just as his book was beginning to gain notoriety and praise as a much needed comprehensive and cost-effective design for a health care delivery system.
Jepson was President of the Yale Club of Vermont for several years - a position he enjoyed immensely.
Jepson leaves behind the love of his life Patricia Neely Washington whom he married 41 years ago in Garrett Park, Maryland on August 21, 1970. Jepson and Neely built their home and life together in Middlesex, Vermont.
He also leaves behind his children and their families, including Mark Wulff and wife Lynn of Germantown, MD; Letitia Allyson Wulff of Portland, OR; Ian Christian Wulff and Maria Figueroa of Tucson, AZ; Liesl Wulff of Williamstown, VT; Jeannette Wulff of Middlesex, VT and friend John Bruce of Washington, D.C.; Clark F. Wulff and Molly Linn of Keene, NH; Forester Dean of Santa Monica; and Gweneth Dean of Richmond, VA.
He leaves behind grandchildren and their families including Anya Roles and husband Eric of New York City; Justin Burke of Portland, OR; and Griffin Dean of Richmond,VA; Luciana Figueroa of Tucson, AZ; Sara (Figueroa) Mustafic and husband Senad of Seattle, WA. He is survived by three great-grand children including Addie, Tatum and Penelope Roles of New York City.
In addition, he is survived by his adoring sister Dorothea Anne and husband Alwin Manke of Cheshire, CT, and five nieces and nephews and their families including Steven Manke and wife Laurie of Wallingford, CT; David Manke and wife Cindy of Potomac, MD; Kristen Slocum and husband Tim of Cheshire, CT; Matthew Manke of Meriden, CT; and Jonathan Manke of Cheshire, CT.
Respecting Dr. Wulff's wishes, a funeral will not be held. However, memories of Jepson will always be in full bloom in the hearts and minds of all who loved and respected him.
