GROVETON, NH - Eleanor Lurvey
....show , 83, passed peacefully July 2, 2011, with her son Mark by her side.
Jean was born on March 28, 1928 in Berlin, NH, one of four daughters of Archie and Mary (Sweeney) Willard.
She was raised in Berlin, NH. For a time she resided in Stark and also lived on Lost Nation Road in Groveton for several years. After her husband Wayne Lurvey passed she relocated to Paige Hill Rd in Northumberland.
She was a home health care nurse for over 40 years. She took pride in serving those she cared for. She also was an EMT for the Groveton Ambulance Corp.
She loved music, played piano, had a great voice (love to sing and yodel), and loved to dance, even trained at a studio that Gene Kelly and Fred Astaire trained. Her love of music carried through her children and now to her grandchildren.
She was a proud member of the American Legion, the Moose, Colonel Town Senior
Citizens and the Whitefield Senior Citizens.
Jean was predeceased by her husband Wayne D. Lurvey and her son Brian E. Lurvey, her parents, two sisters-Dottie Russ and Betty Katsock, and her brother, Thomas Willard.
She is survived by her daughter Denise Therrien of Berlin NH, Elizabeth Shaffer of Springfield MO, her sons Mark Lurvey of Colchester VT, David Collins of Deering NH, and Ronald Collins of Concord NH, her sister Mary Ellen Thibodeau of Nashua NH, 7 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews and her companion Lenny Perkins of Northumberland, NH.
For those who wish, donations may be made to The Autism Society of NH, PO Box 68, Concord NH, in honor of her great-grandson Jordan Woodbury.
Calling hours will be held Thursday, July 7, 2011, from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M., at Bailey Funeral Home, Lancaster. Funeral service will be held Friday morning at 10 AM at the Stark Union Church. Rev. Aaron Cox, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in the Emerson Cemetery, Stark.
LANCASTER, NH - Marguerite “Peggy” MacKillop Brown
....show , 68, died Friday evening, July 15, 2011, at the Country Village Nursing Home, with her family by her side.
Mrs. Brown was born in Lancaster on December 1, 1942, the daughter of Edward A. and Marguerite (Kennett) MacKillop.
Peggy owned and operated Parker’s Jewelry for several years. She truly loved people, doing many acts of kindness, without anything expected in return.
Surviving family members include six brothers, Edward W. MacKillop of Fort Lauderdale, FL, James MacKillop and his wife Susan of Lancaster, John MacKillop and his wife Sandy of Lancaster, Michael MacKillop and wife Jade of Lancaster, Timothy MacKillop of Lancaster, and Richard MacKillop of Lancaster; six sisters, Linda Hopps of Groveton, Cheryl MacKillop of Lancaster, Patricia Kipp and husband Steve of Florida, Judith Paschal and husband Wayne of Berlin, Joyce Bean of Lancaster, Debra MacKillop and Raymond Frizzell of Stark; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by, her parents, her husband Joseph E. Brown Sr. and two brothers Robert MacKillop and Ronald MacKillop
Memorial visiting hours will be held Wednesday from 6 to 9 PM at the Bailey Funeral Home, Lancaster. A graveside service for her and her husband Joseph E. Brown Sr. will be held Thursday morning at 10:30 AM in the Summer Street Cemetery. Rev. Brendan Whittaker will officiate.
A gathering after the service will be held at the MacKillop Farm, 580 North Rd., Lancaster, NH.

GROVETON - John Connary Shores

Mr. Shores was born on July 22, 1933 in Lancaster, NH, a son of Charles V. and Marguerite (Boucher) Shores.
John attended school in Groveton. For a time he worked for his stepfather Frank Gallagher and then went on to serve with the US Army. He worked for many years at the Gilman Paper Co., after retiring he worked for Rosaire Marquis in West Stewartstown. He was a great mechanic and loved working on cars.
Family members include his sister Ann Broome of Fitchburg, MA; two stepsisters, Louise Samson of Lancaster and Jane Foss of Balton, CT, many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by, his parents, stepfather, 2 brothers, 2 sisters, 1 stepbrother and a nephew.

Beverly Ann (Dorr) Lowry
....show , wife, mother, grandmother, sister and, friend left us on Thursday, July 21, 2011, at her beloved Maidstone Lake, surrounded by her family, following a two year battle with cancer.
She leaves her husband of 48 years, David Lowry, 6 daughters, Lori Adriano of Vero Beach FL, Robin Lowry-Merritt, Burlington, VT Wrendy Phinney, Modesto, CA Tana Lowry, Biloxi, MS, Kristi Lowry of Honolulu HI, and Paige Lowry and her husband Bob DiVenuti,of Essex, VT; and two sisters, Trudy Phelps of Goffstown, NH and Leatha Hopkins of Arizona. She was also close to her stepbrother, Bill McNeely of Maidstone, VT and stepsister Karen LaMontagne of Colebrook, NH.
She will be greatly missed by her 5 grandchildren, Joseph Merritt, Katherine Merritt, Alexandra Phinney, Martin DiVenuti, and John Adriano, as well as, many nieces and nephews across the country.
Beverly was born in Lancaster, to Helen McKaig and Richard Dorr, on March 19, 1936. She graduated from Lancaster Academy in 1954 and attended New Hampshire College. Her adventuresome nature took her far away from the North Country for many years but her heart always brought her home to her family and friends.
Beverly faced her battle with cancer the way she approached everything in life, with a positive attitude, genuine spirit and upbeat outlook. And even on a bad day, she never once complained or uttered a negative word. That is just the kind of person she was.
Her faith, love of friends, and devotion to family made her the truly special person we will all miss each and every day.
A mass will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Main St. Lancaster, NH on Friday July 29, at 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers, the family would ask for donations to the Hospice team at the Visiting Nurses Association of Chittenden & Grand Isle Counties

She was born in Colebrook, NH on January 2, 2000, a daughter of Adam Laro and Louisa (Cass) Noyes.
Celina attended the Stewartstown Community School and played basketball for Canaan School. She enjoyed dancing, participating in yoga at her school, swimming and catch and release fishing. She also enjoyed fashion and dressing up. Being with her family and friends was her greatest enjoyment; she was a Momma’s Girl.
Family members include her mother of West Stewartstown and her father of Columbia, her step-father Wendell Noyes or West Stewartstown; a sister Kayla Laro of W. Stewartstown, her brother Adam Laro of Canaan, VT, paternal grandparents Wally and Marcia Laro of Columbia; Nana and Papa Beverly and Elliot Hibbard: and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
A celebration of her life will be held Monday evening, August 8, at 6:30 PM at the Canaan School, 99 School Street, Canaan, VT.

GUILDHALL – Naomi M. Hodgdon
....show , 83, died Thursday afternoon, July 28, 2011, at Weeks Medical Center, Lancaster, after a sudden illness.
Mrs. Hodgdon was born on June 11, 1928, the daughter of Henry Hurlbutt and Myrle Deering.
She was a graduate of Boston University where she acquired a teaching degree in physical education. For many years she taught at several schools throughout the Northeast Kingdom. She was also co-owner and operator of several businesses with her late husband Murray Hodgdon. These included Hodgdon’s Store and service station, along with a logging business and rubbish removal business.
Naomi was also a former member of the Guildhall School Board and was a Notary Public. She enjoyed watching sports and cowboy movies and loved her cat Emma.
Surviving family members include a son Vaughn Hodgdon and his wife Dorothy of Guildhall; three grandchildren Stephen Hodgdon and his wife Lisa of Danville, VT, Jennifer Poulton and her husband Kevin of Littleton and John Hodgdon and his wife Nicole of Granby, VT; and 6 great grandchildren, Zoe, Makenna, K-Leigh, Kasen, Windsor and Tyson. Murray predeceased her on October 20, 2009.
Memorial visiting hours will be held Tuesday, August 2, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the Bailey Funeral Home, Lancaster. A graveside service will follow Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 PM in Ridgwell Cemetery, Guildhall.

LUNENBURG, VT - Elaine D. Horsler
....show , 61, died at her home, with her family by her side on Friday morning July 29, 2011, after a long courageous battle
with cancer.
Mrs. Horsler was born in Lyndon Center, Vermont on February 17, 1950, a daughter of Harley L. and Emma (Robinson) Drown.
She lived in Lunenburg, VT most of her life raising her family. She spent most of her childhood in Gilman, VT, where her family operated a farm.
She graduated from Concord High School in 1968 and in 1969 she became a LPN graduating from Hartford Hospital. She returned to college, attending BerlinVo-Tech and in 1986 she earned her degree as a Registered Nurse. She worked for Weeks Memorial Hospital in Lancaster for over 30 years, retiring due to
her health.
Elaine enjoyed knitting, crocheting, sewing, cooking and tending to her vegetable and flower gardens; she also enjoyed hiking, camping and snow-shoeing. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren & family (and all her kitty cat babies).
She was a former Girl Scout and 4-H Leader, Sunday School Teacher and volunteer at the Morrison Nursing Home.
Family members include her husband of 41 years Owen L. Horsler of Lunenburg,three daughter Suzanne Mitton and her husband Michael of Lunenburg, Roseanne Horsier of Lunenburg and Aimee Horsler also of Lunenburg, two grandchildren Holly and Krysta Mitton, a brother Charles Drown and his wife Jennifer of Kentucky, a brother and sister in-law Robert and Clara Horsler, brother in-law Gary Horsler, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins She was predeceased by, her parents, a brother Timothy F. Drown and an infant sister Christine.

JEFFERSON - Brian L. Smith
....show , 58, died July 30, 2011 at Weeks Medical Center, with his family by his side.
Mr. Smith was born in Lancaster, on October 6, 1952 a son of Ned and Phyllis (Sheridan) Smith.
Brian was a lifetime resident of Jefferson and was a graduate of White Mountain Regional High School. He served with the US Army. For a time he worked for Seawood, Lemiux Construction and most recently at Bretton Woods in the maintenance department.
He was an avid hunter and gun collector.
Family members include his wife Bonnie (Dupont) Smith of Jefferson, five children Brian James, Lee Michael, Denise, Carla and Amy, a step son David Boudle, 7 brothers, his twin Bruce Smith, Alan Smith and his wife Diane, Larry Smith and his wife Diane, Michael Smith and his wife Sue, Dick Smith and his wife Louise, David Smith and Raymond Smith, 3 sisters Roberta McGee and her husband John, Diane Dupont and her husband Bruce and Glenda Smith, several grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by, his parents, a brother Peter Fuller and a sister Sharon Dupont.

JEFFERSON, NH - Vivian Giguere
....show , 72, of Horan Road, died suddenly at her home on Sunday, August 7, 2011.
Mrs. Giguere was born in Woonsocket, RI, on January 20, 1939, the daughter of Willie and Beatrice (Anger) Charrette.
Vivian was raised in Woonsocket, she later moved to Attleboro, MA, and was employed with Inland Cable for a time. She and her late husband, Albert L. Giguere, often vacationed in Northern New Hampshire and in 1989 took up permanent residence in Jefferson, NH. They enjoyed snowmobiling and were members of the Waumbek-Methna Snowmobile Club.
She was a Communicant of the Gate of Heaven Parish and was an active volunteer in her church.
Family members include a son Raymond Giguere of Attleboro; two daughters, Christine Therrian of Melbourne, FL, Deborah Thorpe of Manchester, NH; a brother Ronald Charrette of Dorchester, NH; and six grandchildren.
There are no visiting hours. A memorial service will be held Friday afternoon, August 12, at 1:00 PM at the Bailey Funeral Home, Lancaster, NH.

Mrs. Peragine was born in Brooklyn, New York on February 24, 1928, a daughter of Charles Angelo and Mary (Bosco) Triano.
She was raised in Brooklyn and was a graduate of Bushwick High School. For most of her life she resided in Nassau, Long Island where she was a homemaker and also did secretarial work.
Family members include a brother Charles Triano of Freeport, Long Island and a sister Ann Marie Cona of Lancaster. She was predeceased by, her husband Girolomo Peragine in 1983, her son Girolomo Peragine Jr. and her daughter Jo Ann Beiner.

LANCASTER, NH - Lucille King
....show , 74, died Sunday morning August 14, 2011, at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, Lebanon.
Mrs. King was born in Colebrook, NH on March 8, 1937 a daughter of Grant and Mildred (Jeffers) Hook.
Lucille was raised in Brunswick, VT, and was a graduate of Stratford High School. In her youth she was a member of 4-H where and rode in many show horse competitions. She worked various jobs through the years including Groveton Paper Company, Campbell Envelope, North Stratford, and the Catholic Church. For 30 years she was a bus driver for Nugent Bus Service, Colebrook and the White Mountain Regional School District.
For 20 years she was married to the late Armand King Sr. and was a close companion of the late Fred Strong for 21 years. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. To many people she was a good friend including her children’s friends who affectionately called her Mom or Gram.
Family members include six children, Linda Raymond of Jefferson, Cindy Hatjialexiou and her husband George of Colebrook; Millard King and his wife Eileen of Lancaster, Armand King Jr. and wife Debbie of Barnet, VT, Patrick King and wife Annette of Lancaster, and John King and wife Jacqueline of Lunenburg; a brother Kenneth Hook and his wife June of Brunswick, VT; a sister in-law Eleanor Hook of Brunswick, VT, 21 grandchildren, 28 great- grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her granddaughter Crystal King and her son in-law John Raymond.

Mrs. Henderson was born in Lunenburg, VT on April 14, 1936, the daughter of Ovila N.and Mabel H. (Blood) Roy.
Yvonne was a homemaker and mother of 11 children. She had a big heart and loved everyone. She had a great love of all animals and her greatest love was children.
Surviving family members include 10 children David Burt of Fort Myers, FL, Donald Burt of Dalton, Cindy Valentine of Lunenburg, Leona Crawford of W. Springfield, MA, Harvey Henderson Jr., Burton Burt, Gordon Burt, Dean Burt, Jane Richardson and Barbara Walker all of Lunenburg; 5 sisters, Jeanette Thompson of Virginia, Florence Colby of Lunenburg, Irene Chase of Littleton, Verna Belle Ingerson of Lisbon and Arlene Baird of Arizona; 4 brothers, Ernie Roy of Guildhall, George Roy, Clayton Roy, and Albert Roy all of Lunenburg; 28 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her first husband Allen Burt; her second husband Harvey Henderson; a son Allen Burt; and a brother Norman Roy.

Forrest Hicks
....show - Hidden away high a top Cherry Mountain populated with Black Bear, Whitetail, and majestic mountain views is the beloved camp of Forrest Hicks. Nestled among lush fields, fruit trees and oaks all planted with his hands for future generations is where Forrest joyfully went home to the Lord on August 22, 2011 surrounded by his devoted family. Forrest was born June 28, 1947 in Lancaster the son of Clayton and Patricia (Thayer) Hicks of Jefferson.
Forrest enjoyed his 8 week retreat at camp. This retreat was the highlight of his summer with daily visits from family and friends. Six grandchildren were in and out daily. As a family we celebrated birthdays, two State championships on the same day, coached by his two sons, featuring his two granddaughters, a World Series experience to Colorado, food festivals, sleepovers, viewing family movies, as well as the dedication of the Forrest Hicks Field in his beloved Jefferson. An overwhelming flood of heart warming visits, calls, and letters from his past baseball and Santa’s Village experience were relished.
Forrest served in the United States Army with the First Air Calvary as a medical corpsman. He was awarded the Bronze Star, Silver Star, as well as Air Medal for outstanding service in connection with military operations against hostile forces in the Republic of Vietnam. Forrest was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing with his sons and grandchildren. He coached baseball for over thirty years starting the first Santa’s Village team. The only interruption allowed from these activities would be for those weekly card games. After all, he was a card shark for sure!
Forrest was a lifelong resident of Jefferson. He married his high school sweetheart, Bonnita (Foss) on June 25, 1966. To this 45 year union, Forrest is survived by his wife and two children Forrest Paul Hicks II, his wife Stacey, and two children Rebecca and Garret Forrest, as well as Benjamin Christopher, his wife Erica, and their four children Haile, Tyler, Alexis, and Benjamin Forrest. Forrest was one of nine children. Six survive him: Clayton Thayer Hicks, Wanda Lacasse, John Hicks, William Hicks, Bruce Hicks, and Jennifer Foster. He had many special nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents along with a sister Kathy Mathieu and a brother Edward Kent Hicks.
Calling hours will be Thursday, August 25th at the Jefferson Town Hall from 2-4 & 6-8 PM. Funeral services will be held at the Forrest Hicks Field in Jefferson, NH, on Friday August 26th at 2:00PM. A private committal service on Cherry Mountain will follow the funeral service.

MEREDITH – Herbert O. Edney
....show , 90 of Lancaster and Meredith passed away at Forestview Manor Assisted Living Facility, on August 22, 2011 surrounded by his family.
Mr. Edney was born and raised in Gilman, Vt. on October 5, 1920, the son of Arthur G. and Hattie L. (Henson) Edney. He graduated from Wentworth Institute, Boston, MA as a Mechanical Engineer.
Mr. Edney served in the US Navy during WW II on the USS LST 533 and was employed by Westinghouse Mfg Co. in Boston, MA and Bath, ME and General Electric Company in Philadelphia and Newton, MA.
During his retirement years he and Beth divided their time between Lancaster and Surprise, AZ. In both of these locations he spent many days serving as a volunteer with the Hospice Organization. He also spent many years working in the Roving Volunteer In Christ Service program (RVICS) supporting at risk youth.
Mr. Edney was the devoted husband of 69 years; to Bethany May (Gessner) Edney, of Meredith and Lancaster, and devoted father of three daughters, Linda Hersey of Laconia, Cheryl Daggett of Fairfield, ME, and Charlotte Jackson of Littleton, CO. 4 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and 9 nieces and nephews.

MAIDSTONE - Melvin Arnold Rowe Sr.

Mr. Rowe was born in Charleston, VT on February 5, 1928 the son of Howard Harold and Juanita Anastasia (Wing) Rowe.
Melvin was a lifetime resident of Maidstone. He served with the US Army during WWII. For most of his life he was a farmer, he was employed at the Peaslee Farm in Guildhall for many years.
He was an outdoorsman who loved to cut trees, make trails and hunt. He enjoyed gardening and two-step dancing.
He was a member of the Littleton VFW.
Family members include his wife Lucille (Leach) Rowe of Maidstone, two sons, Melvin Rowe Jr. of E. St. Johnsbury and Bruce Rowe of Epping, NH and his daughter Mary Anne Good of Ohio, five step-children, Andrew Wetherell of Franklin, MA, Barbara Zalneraitis of Baldwinville, MA, Larry Wetherell of Rindge, NH, Cynthia Wetherell of Clinton, MA and Suzanne Grego of Clinton, MA, a half brother Merle Damon of Groveton, 7 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, 16 step grandchildren, 11 step great grandchildren and his adopted family Geraldine McVetty and her children.

WHITEFIELD - Harold B. Nason
....show , 89, formerly of Jefferson, died Saturday evening September 3, 2011, at Sartwell Place.
Mr. Nason was born in Manchester, NH on January 28, 1922, the son of Clifford and Nellie (Blake) Nason.
Harold was raised in Berlin and was a graduate of Berlin High School. For a time he and his wife owned and operated the Waterwheel Sugar House in Jefferson and he also was a self employed building contractor.
He enjoyed camping, traveling all over the United States and Canada and especially spending time with his family.
He was a member of St. John’s Methodist Church in Jefferson, the Starr King Grange and the Odd Fellows.
Family members include his two sons Blake Nason and Velma of Ceres, VA and Dana Nason and his wife Sally of Lunenburg, VT, 8 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren, and a daughter in-law Nancy Malney of Montana. He was predeceased by, his wife of 67 years Eva (Dickie) Nason in 2010 and his sister Wilma Mitchell.

MANCHESTER - Roberta Louise Malanson
....show , 61, died Sunday September 4, 2011, at the Catholic Medical Center, Manchester.
Roberta was born in Lancaster on September 19, 1949, a daughter of Robert and Hazel (Gonyer) Baker.
She was raised in Lancaster where she attended Lancaster Academy. For a time she worked at the Lancaster Diner. She later moved to Manchester where she has been a resident for over 25 years and was employed by Dunkin Donuts.
She enjoyed playing cards and was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary in Lancaster.
Family members include her children Jeffrey Malanson of Stratford, Joanne Collins of St. Johnsbury, VT and Jennifer Malanson of Lancaster, her brothers Wayne “Butch” Baker of Lancaster, Craig Baker of Lancaster and Kevin Baker of Manchester, her sisters Norma Singer of Fort Lauderdale, FL, Lynn Baker of Manchester and Nancy Baker, her companion of 17 years Louis Levesque of Manchester, 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday September 17 at 11:00 AM in the Summer Street Cemetery, Lancaster.
JEFFERSON - Marion E. Dupont
....show , 88, died Thursday morning, September 15, 2011, at the Country Village Genesis Eldercare Center, Lancaster.
Mrs. Dupont was born on June 11, 1923, the daughter of Frederick and Marjorie (Izatt) Willoughby.
Marion was best known as a hard worker who enjoyed different jobs she held during her life. At one time she was employed at the Mt. Washington Hotel were she worked in housekeeping and laundry. Later she was employed many years as a cook at the Morrison Nursing Home, Whitefield. A job she was particularly proud of.
Family members include a son Bruce Dupont and his wife Diane of Jefferson; two daughters, Amber Boudle and her husband Rodney of Lunenburg, Bonnie Smith of Jefferson; a daughter-in-law, Miriam Dupont of Jefferson; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Lionel N. Dupont; two sons, Frederick and Robert Dupont; two sisters, Dorothy Sheridan and Lois Garvin; and a son-in-law Brian Smith.
There are no visiting hours. A memorial service will be held Saturday morning, September 24, at 10:30 AM, at the Lancaster Assembly of God Church. Reverend Seth Frink, pastor, will officiate. Burial of her ashes will follow in Forest Vale Cemetery, Jefferson.
LANCASTER – Bonnie L. Libby
....show , 64, died Sunday morning September 18, 2011, at the Coos County Nursing Home, West Stewartstown.
Mrs. Libby was born in Lancaster on April 13, 1947, the daughter of Robert Isham and Arlene (Gray) MacDougal.
Bonnie was a lifetime resident and graduate of Lancaster Academy. For many years she was employed at Weeks Medical Center, Lancaster, and the Morrison Nursing Home, Whitefield. She enjoyed reading, crafts, knitting and spending time with her family, particularly her grandkids.
She was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church, Lancaster, and the United Methodist Women.
Family members include her husband David Libby of Lancaster; her mother, Arlene MacDougal of Waterford, CT; a son Michael Libby of Lancaster; a daughter Heather Kenison and her husband Justin of Lancaster; two grandchildren, Addyson and Hannah; two brothers, Larry and Gary Isham and two sisters Becky Isham and Cheryl Allen all of California. Her father predeceased her.
Memorial visiting hours will be held Thursday evening September 22, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Bailey Funeral Home, Lancaster. A memorial service will be held Friday morning at 11:00 AM at the Christ United Methodist Church, Lancaster. Rev. Ron Bruce, pastor, will officiate.
