MARYANN M. (HOBEN) RAYMOND
....show FAIRFAX - Maryann Margaret (Hoben) Raymond, 69, died peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday July 11, 2010 in Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington. She was born on Oct. 19, 1940 in St. Albans, daughter of the late Adolph and Katherine (Rooney) Hoben. Maryann married Henry Raymond on Sept. 3, 1960 at St. Luke's Church in Fairfax. Maryann's early life was spent on the farm at the foot of Buck Hill, where she told many wonderful stories of her life with her friends in the Hollow, while riding the school barge to BFA-Fairfax, graduating from there in 1958. Maryann was very active in many school activities as well as St. Luke's Church, having actually met her future husband, Henry Raymond, in 1957, while they were both singing in St. Luke's Choir, an activity they both participated in for the next 30 years or more. Maryann started work immediately out of high school at The Mary Fletcher Hospital in medical records and remained in the medical field throughout her working career until 1992 when she was forced to retire because of ill health. Family was always very important, so from the time their oldest daughter was born in 1961, until their youngest daughter was in school in 1977, Maryann was a full time Mom, a role she took very seriously. Her husband, Henry, credits her family guidance, for the wonderful results achieved, Lynn, Sharon and Mary Kay, their three loving and wonderful daughters. Her support was always there also, for her husband, in whatever he undertook to provide for the family. As wife and mother, she was their number one fan, cheerleader and advocate, always there to shoulder the burden, lend a caring ear and provide words of wisdom. Her guidance also helped them to become fans of the right baseball team, the Red Sox. Although life had not been easy for her, due to illness for the past 17 years, life was great, as she and her husband enjoyed life together each day and seeing their family grow with the addition of two wonderful grandsons. Grammie followed and supported them in every activity and important moment in their life. They always looked forward to spending time with her and Grampa in Fairfax. During her retirement she took great enjoyment in her computer and became known as VTGrammy. She developed websites and weekly spoiler emails for her favorite soaps and soap star, Mark Derwin. She was able to meet Mark at a charity event and became a celebrity in her own way as people lined up to meet the beloved VTGrammy. Maryann's physical presence will be missed, but she definitely will live on in the hearts and memories of many, especially Henry, Lynn, Sharon, Mary Kay, Little Henry, Sam and sonin-law, Mike. We all love you so much Maryann, Mom and Grammy, you are now at peace and pain-free. She is survived by her loving husband of 49 years, Henry Raymond of Fairfax; three daughters, Lynn Raymond Empey and husband, Michael, of Bellows Falls, Sharon Raymond of Hampton, N.H., Mary Kay Raymond of Fairfax; two grandchildren, Henry and Samuel Empey; two sisters-in-law, Theresa Raymond of Fairfax, Janice Hoben of Florida; several cousins, nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her three brothers, Bernard, Lawrence and Spencer Dean Hoben. A special thanks to Dr. Alan Ramsay, Maryann's Primary Care Physician for the past 25 years, who also played a special role in making her last hours comfortable for her and according to her wishes. The family not only regarded him as Maryann's doctor, but also as a family friend. God Bless You, Dr. Ramsay for all your help. Special thanks to the staff at FAHC who was especially caring and helpful to the family and Maryann during her last 32 hours and to the VNA who provided loving care to her during the last few years. At Maryann's request there will be no public visiting hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday July 16, 2010 at 11 a.m. at St. Luke's Catholic Church in Fairfax, with Reverend Julian Asucan officiating. Mr. Reed was born Aug. 16, 1911 in Sheldon, the son of the late Bessie Crowe Reed and George Reed of Sheldon. Donald was only 14 years old when his father passed away, leaving Donald to run the family farm in Sheldon with his mother for several years. In 1939, he married Mabel Danyaw, and later purchased the Danyaw Farm in Fairfield. During this time he would walk three miles down the railroad tracks to milk his mother's cows, morning and night, for several years, managing both farms in the process. His best friends, Bill and Gail Currier, were with him. Al was born in Chattanooga, Tenn. in 1912 but his family moved to Bridgeport, Conn. while he was still an infant. He married the love of his life, Mildred (Molly), in 1941 and they moved to California where he installed the electrical systems on submarines during the war years. They had two children, Richard and Janice. Returning to Bridgeport after the war Al had his own electrical contracting business. Retiring in 1979, he and Molly moved to Shelburne. He was predeceased by his beloved wife in 1996 and son Richard in 2005. Even as a child his drive to improve how things worked had him creating and repairing things in his parent's home. He was a friend to everyone he met and loved to help everyone. If you told him of a problem you were having, Al would invent a solution and have it built by the next day. His house is full of his beautiful award-winning wood carvings and his crewel work. He was still active in wood carving well into his nineties. He loved to walk outside and was seen every day, no matter the weather, until breaking his hip in late October. Since breaking his other hip five years earlier, he used a walker, when not holding his friend Bill's arm, and had it decorated with a AAA sticker and the sign "Two foot Power, no gas." HERBERT DUNCAN ROLLASON III
....show LEICESTER - Herbert Duncan Rollason III, 59, of Leicester, died unexpectedly on Friday, May 21, 2010, at his home on Lake Dunmore. He was born on Nov. 3, 1950, in Amherst, Mass. and graduated from Amherst Regional High School in 1969. He attended the Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, N.Y. and graduated in 1973 with a degree in Business Administration. After taking three months to pursue an interest in skiing and working in Aspen, Colo., he worked for Georgia-Pacific and Johnson Building Supply, until he started his own wholesale building materials business in 1983. Ten years later he "retired", something that a born salesman could only do for so long. He soon opened and operated a carpet store, a used car dealership, and several real estate ventures, some of which he continued to operate until his passing. In addition to his career interests, Duncan had a love for travel, classic cars, music, motorcycles, boats and airplanes, and of course Middlebury athletic events. In his youth, he played the drums in a band and dreamed of owning a Shelby, flying his own airplane and owning a restaurant, all of which he accomplished before the age of 50. He spent countless hours at the Howard E. Brush Arena in Middlebury, as well as numerous other ice rinks across New England, cheering for his son, the pride and joy of his life. As a child, Duncan spent his summers at the family cottage on Lake Dunmore, later purchasing and renovating the cottage next door, where he made his home for more than 30 years. He was an avid water skier during the summer and an alpine skier during the winter. In addition, he enjoyed hunting, cooking, and telling a good (or sometimes bad) joke. Days before his death, friends had helped him plant an asparagus bed for his future enjoyment. He was also working on plans for an upcoming family reunion at Lake Dunmore. Duncan is survived by his son, H. Duncan Rollason IV of Washington, D.C. and Salisbury. He is also survived by his father, Herbert Duncan Rollason Jr., of Amherst, Mass.; his sister, Betsy Rollason of Burlington; and his former wife, Holly Killary, of Salisbury. He was predeceased by his mother, Grace S. Rollason. A memorial service and celebration of his life will be held in the first week of August, with details to be announced at a later date.
