PHILIP ARLAN MANSFIELD
....show ENOSBURG FALLS - Philip Arlan Mansfield, 75, originally from Stowe, died peacefully and quietly on Saturday, Nov. 13, 2010 in Brownway Residence of Enosburg Falls. He was born May 24, 1935 in Stowe, the son of Andrew Mansfield and Laura Field Mansfield. He worked in Vermont for over 50 years as a master electrician and had a strong work ethic. He gave the highest quality service at a fair price. Philip was a private man with a particular love of nature, animals, small children, treasure hunting and the Boston Red Sox. The great outdoors was his favorite playing field. If he was not working, he might be found climbing the trails of Mt. Mansfield or Jay Peak, looking for the stray, shiny coin that had fallen from a skier's pocket. He might be hunting, fishing or metaldetecting. There were many road side sightings of Philip as he looked for empty cans to increase his cash flow a nickel at a time. He'd proudly tell you that he once paid for a new truck with saved can money. He was an original Green-Up man. Even in his last years, his keen eye could spot a can from a distance. Philip had two marriages that spanned fifty years. He leaves his four children from his first marriage, Scott Mansfield of So. Burlington, Robin Moll and husband, John, of Durham, N.C., Lauri Mansfield of Taftsville, and David Mansfield of Plainfield; as well as several grandchildren and greatgrandchildren. He leaves his brother, Andy, of Charlotte, and his brother, Daryl, of Waterville; his sister, Marlene Bond Prescott of Upper Jay, N.Y.; and his cousin and brother-at-heart, Richie Deubel of Schenectady, N.Y. He is predeceased by his brother, Richard; and long time friend, Denis Vanesse. This good and honest man will be sorely missed. Philip's family wishes to extend their warmest appreciation to staff and friends at Brownway Residence and hospice of Franklin County Home Health, to Dr. Christian Thomas and staff at the Vermont Center for Cancer Medicine, and to Jim Fowler, PA, and staff at the Enosburg Health Center. Special thanks also to Rebecca Gill and John O'Neil. A remembrance gathering will be held in the spring, likely in Stowe.
