, 67, of County Road, Center Haverhill, N.H., died on Friday, April 30, 2010, at his home. He was born in Bath, N.H., Sept. 10, 1942, the son of Harry C. and Shirley (Lyndes) Poor. John married Harriet Clark on Jan. 26, 1963. When he was younger he had worked for Hood's Plumbing and Heating of North Haverhill, and later worked as an auto mechanic at numerous garages in Hanover, Thetford and Fairlee. John also worked at Walker Motors Sales in Woodsville for many years, retiring in December 2009. He enjoyed auto racing, especially dirt track racing. In the mid 1970s he raced at Bear Ridge Speedway in Bradford, Vt. Throughout the years, John worked in many different areas around Bear Ridge, most recently as assistant flagman. He traveled around the Northeast with C.V. Elms and his # 6 modified dirt car as his chief mechanic and builder. Along with his daughter, Debbie, he had a passion for horses and showed them at area equine events. He served as a volunteer for North Country Home Health and Hospice, and also served in the National Guard and was discharged in 1968. At home, he enjoyed watching and feeding the variety of birds that frequented his feeders and birdbaths. John will be remembered for his quiet demeanor, big heart, and his desire to help whenever possible. He was predeceased by his wife of 42 years, Harriet Poor on Jan. 25, 2005; his parents, Harry C. and Shirley Poor; and a sister, Marie Poor. Survivors include his daughter, Debbie Sandvil of Center Haverhill; a sister, Patricia Hatch of Groton, Vt.; and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be on Wednesday, May 5, 2010, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Ricker Funeral Home, 1 Birch St., Woodsville, N.H. , of Canaan, Vt., passed away from this earth 14 days shy of his 92nd birthday early Saturday afternoon, May 1, 2010, in hospice care in Middlebury, Vt., after a period of failing health. He was born on May 16, 1918, in St. Malo, Québec, to the late Alfred and Donat (Menard) Fauteux. Young at heart and generous of spirit, Philip lived his entire adult life in Canaan, Vt., with his beloved wife of 62 years, Claire (Laperle). For over 40 years, they worked together in the family business. Together they raised six children to whom he provided every earthly need, an avid love of life and a strong spiritual grounding. Philip is survived by his wife, Claire; his six children, Elaine (Gary) Pinckney of Williston, Vt., Julie Smith of Thetford Center, Vt., Susan (Francis) Verchot of Richmond, Vt., Janet (Dave) Anderson of East Haven, Conn., Philip (Brenda) Fauteux of Groveton, N.H.; and Pamela (Doug) Dufault of Norton, Mass; six grandchildren and two step-grandchildren whom he doted on and adored: David and Michael Pinckney, Wesley Smith, Claire Anderson, Alison and Elizabeth Dufault, and Katie and Kevin Verchot and Nicholas Dowland; his youngest brother Andre Fauteux of Beauharnois, Québec; and many, many nieces and nephews - well-loved, all of them. In addition to his parents, Philip was pre-deceased by his brothers and sisters, Armand, Firmin, Antonio, Lucien, Onil, Rita (Lamoureux), Oscar, Gertrude (Guyot), Leo, Beatrice, Marie-Jeanne and Gerard. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, May 4, 2010, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Jenkins & Newman Funeral Home in Colebrook, N.H. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Wednesday, May 5, at 11 a.m. at St. Albert's Roman Catholic Church in Riverside, West Stewartstown, N.H., with the Reverend Craig Cheney as celebrant. , formerly of St. Johnsbury, died in Bradenton, Fla., Saturday, Jan. 2, 2010, at the age of 90. She was born on July 11, 1919, in St. Johnsbury, Vt., to Isaac and Adeline Duperron. Dot was predeceased by her husband, Allen, and daughter Barbara Milo. Until her husband's death in 1997, she had been a lifelong resident of St. Johnsbury and longtime member of South Congregational Church, where she participated in many of the church activities and assisted with the children's choir. Since 1999 she resided in Bradenton. She is survived by her son, Robert Grady and wife Penny of Bristol, Vt.; her daughter Carole Sicard and husband Michael of Bradenton, Fla.; son-in-law Gene Milo of South Burlington, Vt.; sisters Doris Winchester and husband Donald of St. Johnsbury Center, Vt., Rita Blankenhorn of Orlando, Fla., Lorraine Charron and husband Richard of Lyndonville, Vt.; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Judy was born on July 30, 1947, in Coudersport, Pa., and resided in Grafton County for the past 37 years, having worked as a registered nurse at Cottage Hospital in Woodsville for over 30 years. She enjoyed living on the farm and watching the newborn calves grow. She also enjoyed sewing and reading. Judy is survived by her longtime companion, Brian Santy of Lyman; his daughters, Amy Fremeau of Vermont, and Tiffany Doucette of Maine; her daughter, Tammy Olsen of California; three sisters and three brothers; two granddaughters; and 10 nieces and nephews. , 66, of West Danville, Vt., passed away quietly at the intensive care unit of Fletcher Allen Hospital of the University of Vermont Medical School, Burlington, Vt., in the early-morning hours of May 1, 2010, from complications secondary to pneumonia. Sarah was born on Oct. 15, 1943, to Donald S. Barkley and Mildred M. (Terbush) Barkley in the town of Newburgh, N.Y. (Orange County). Sarah experienced progressive physical disabilities in her later life that led her to become a strong advocate for disabled adults and for the importance of supporting them in independent living as much as possible. She served on several local and state boards in Vermont, including working as an information and referral specialist and later occasional consultant to the Vermont Center for Independent Living. She was also a member of the Buddhist community and periodically worked at and utilized the services of Karmé Choling-Shambhala Meditation Center in Barnet, Vt. During her childhood, she was educated in various schools in New York, Florida, Texas and Maryland, and graduated from Oxon Hill High School in Maryland. She subsequently attended nursing school at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Md., but left to marry Richard Friedman of Baltimore, Md. She and Richard had two daughters, Kathy and Beth, but later divorced. Sarah subsequently had a third daughter, Molly, with Victor Schoenberg, and was later briefly married to Steve Brown. Sarah lived her adult life in a variety of communities throughout the U.S., including most recently West Danville, Vt., and earlier Baltimore, Md., Boulder, Colo., Santa Barbara, Calif., Elizabethtown, N.Y., and Fostertown, N.Y. She had wide-ranging interests, including the visual arts (painting and pottery), disability services, politics, biology and medicine and religion, particularly Buddhism and Native American spirituality, among other interests. An avid reader, she loved mysteries, poetry and books dealing with spirituality and religion. She was a devoted listener of Vermont Public Radio and viewer of C-Span and readily engaged in passionate discussions concerning contemporary political issues. She is survived by her older sister, Judyth (Barkley) Martin and husband Malcolm of Elizabethtown, N.Y.; and her younger brothers Don G. Barkley and companion Carol Ericsson of Naples, Fla., and Russell A. Barkley, Ph.D., and wife Patricia of Mount Pleasant, S.C., as well as her daughters Kathy (Friedman) Byman and husband Michael of Falls Church, Va., Beth (Friedman) Wyman of Craig, Colo., and Molly (Barkley) Sacamano and husband Andrew of Baltimore, Md. She was privileged to have five grandchildren: Peter and Joseph Byman of Falls Church, Va., Pearl Wyman of Craig, Colo., and Julian and Grace Bishop of Denver, Colo. She is predeceased by her mother and father and younger brother, Ronald F. Barkley. At the family's request, there will be no calling hours. Her life will be celebrated at a memorial service Sunday, May 9, 2010, at 1:30 p.m. at Karmé Choling-Shambhala Meditation Center in Barnet, Vt. , 58, of Kirby, died at home with family at his side early Tuesday morning, May 4, 2010, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in East Burke on May 8, 1951, the son of John McHarg Sr. and Elaine (Rexford) McHarg. He graduated from Lyndon Institute with the class of 1969. He married Candy Fisher on Aug. 27, 1977; during their marriage they had four daughters: Jessie, Audra, Erin, and Laura. John was a self-employed logger for many years. He most recently worked for a small woodworking shop in Kirby. Many will remember John was always willing to lend a helping hand. One of the best parts about logging was that he got to spend time in the great outdoors where he loved to hunt and fish. He was predeceased by his dad, John McHarg Sr. in 1983; two nieces Alyssa McHarg and Tammy Hulbert. He is survived by his mother Elaine McHarg of East Burke; his four daughters, Jessie Therrien and husband Donald of St. Johnsbury, Audra Sicard and husband Andrew of Westmore, Erin Patoine and husband Donald of Kirby, Laura McHarg and Lee Brown of Island Pond; eight grandchildren, Kayla, Dylan and Lily, Allison, Austin and Aiden, Wyatt and Gunner; the mother of his four daughters, Candy Bean of Waterford; three sisters, Emily Hulbert and Lionel Simard of Lyndon Corner, Lori Bandy and husband Doug of Kirby, Velma McHarg of Lyndonville; one brother James McHarg and wife Diane of Sheffield; and aunts, nieces and nephews. , 68, longtime resident of East Burke, died unexpectedly Sunday, May 2, 2010, at his home at Lyndon Corner. He was born in Lyndon Corner on Jan. 23, 1942, the youngest of five children born to Daniel and Queenie (Libby) Sanderson. His wife of 37 years, Carol (Steenland), passed away in 2001. Their daughter Cathy died tragically in 1981. After graduating from Lyndon Institute in 1960, David enlisted in the Army and spent three years in Berlin, Germany. He served in the Vermont Army National Guard for over 30 years. The Sandersons raised their family on the Kirby Road in East Burke. He retired from Lyndon State College, where he did much of the boiler room/general plumbing and heating maintenance at the college. Previously he was employed as a GM certified mechanic at the old Vinton Motors and the old Raymond B. Hoar Motors. David helped start the East Burke Fire Brigade and remained active over the years as a certified emergency medical technician (EMT). He is survived by four children, son John D. Sanderson of South Burlington, son Michael D. Sanderson of East Burke, daughter Bonnie Kenyon and husband Robert of Newbury, N.H.; and son Daniel P. Sanderson and wife Stacey of Sutton; daughter-in-law Christine Brown of Laconia, N.H.; nine grandchildren, Gabe, Mollie and Hillary, Lane, Nathaniel, Audrey and Robbie, Taylor and Wyatt; one great-grandson Aiden; his mother-in-law, Elaine Steenland of Lyndonville; a brother, Richard Sanderson and wife Lorraine of Lancaster, Pa.; a sister, Doreen Devenger of Sutton; nieces and nephews. He leaves his wife, Christine (Camougis) Cunavelis; two brothers, George and John Cunavelis, both of Vermont; nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews; several cousins. He was predeceased by his sister, Helen Cunavelis. He was born in St. Johnsbury, Vt., a son of Peter and Vasiliki (Koumparis) Cunavelis, and graduated from St. Johnsbury Academy. He attended the University of Vermont and later graduated from the University of Missouri with a degree in journalism. James was an Army Air Corps veteran during World War II, serving in England, Libya and Italy. He worked for many years at the Hartford Courant newspaper as a sportswriter and a freelance writer, where he had the opportunity to write stories on such people as pro golfer Jack Nicklaus and former President John F. Kennedy. Previously, he worked for the Telegram and Gazette. James was an active member of the American Legion Post 204, the VFW Post 6907 both in West Boylston, AHEPA Organization and an avid volunteer of the American Red Cross. Even though he was not a graduate of Shrewsbury High School, he was very involved with the establishment of the Shrewsbury High School Alumni Association. The funeral service will be held Friday, May 7, at 11 a.m. in St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell St., Worcester, Mass. She was born in Newbury, Vt., Aug. 3, 1936, the daughter of Clayton and Lena (Ledger) Flint. Prior to the death of her husband, Clinton, she assisted him with his carpentry and home construction business. Jeannette enjoyed traveling, and for many years enjoyed seasonal travel between Florida, New Hampshire and Vermont. She was predeceased by her husband Clinton Boyce in 2004, and her brother Sam Flint in 2008. Survivors include three sons, Stephen Boyce of Thornton, N.H., Michael Marland of Spofford, N.H., and Clinton Boyce of Marina Del Ray, Calif.; a daughter Audrey Crowe of Bethlehem, N.H.; several half sisters and half brothers; nieces and nephews. , 92, of East Concord, passed away Sunday evening, March 28, 2010, at St. Johnsbury Health & Rehab Center where she had resided for the past three years. She was born in Lunenburg on June 25, 1917, the daughter of Lawrence and Angie (Hovey) Timson. Her father passed away when she was 9; she was brought up by her mother and step-father, George Boutwell. Rebecca married Arthur Davis Dec. 28, 1935; they lived most of their life in East Concord. Arthur passed away May 8, 2002. They had three children, two of whom have also passed away: son Eugene Davis and daughter Irene Morse. She was also predeceased by a son-in-law, Robert Morse; three brothers: Bernard, Frederick and Lawrence Timson; and two sisters: Mareta Boatwright and Marion Berry. Nurturing came naturally to Rebecca; she cared for her mother for years as well as for her husband Arthur who had several years of ill health. She worked in the meat department at the old Green Mt. Fruit, having previously worked at the old St. Johnsbury Glovers and at the mill in Gilman. In her later years she enjoyed knitting and reading. She was a member of East Concord United Methodist Church. She is survived by her daughter Vivian Fox and husband Wayne of Lyndonville; daughter-in-law Sheila Davis of Lyndonville; 11 grandchildren, Irene's children Deborah, Paula, Ramona, Arthur, and Dwayne, Eugene's children Kevin and Tammy, Vivian's children Jayne, Denise, Lisa, and Gary; many great-grandchildren; and even great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Aldora Boutwell of Orange, Conn., Joan Nichols and husband Charles of Spring Hill, Fla.; nieces and nephews. , 84, of Lyndonville, died suddenly at his home Thursday morning May 6, 2010. He was born Sept. 17, 1925, in St. Johnsbury, the son of Merl and Gwendolyn (Sibley) Wheeler Sr. Gene served his country during World War II in the U.S. Navy as a "Radioman Third Class" aboard the LST 841. After being discharged from the Navy he married Dale E. (Robinson) on July 26, 1946. He returned to the St. Johnsbury Trade School, where he graduated in 1947. For 30 years Gene owned and operated Wheeler's TV Sales and Service in St. Johnsbury Center, serving many loyal customers. A fisherman's fisherman, Gene fished his whole life in area streams, ponds, and lakes. He also enjoyed working in his flower and vegetable gardens, and is remembered for his hard work ethic. He was devoted to his wife and family. Gene was predeceased by his beloved wife, Dale, in 2009. He was also predeceased by his son-in-law, David Rives. Survivors include his three daughters, Patricia Aubin and husband Gary of St. Johnsbury, Linda Whitehill and husband Denzil of Barnet, and Kathleen Rives of North Haverhill, NH; seven grandchildren, Bryan and Erik Aubin, Tony Whitehill, Emily Richter, Samuel Rives, Hanna Bingham, and Josiah Rives; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers, Floyd Wheeler and wife Doris of California, and Carroll Wheeler and wife Lois of St. Johnsbury; four sisters, Eleanor Skinner of St. Johnsbury, Clara Grabowski of St. Johnsbury, Myrle Leithead and husband Bob of St. Johnsbury, and Karlene Smith of Glover; his in-laws, Lynn and Dee Robinson of Texas, Florence Barnes of Connecticut, Mary Lamoray of Florida, and Bev Robinson of St. Albans; nieces and nephews. , 53, of Landaff, passed away at Littleton Regional Hospital on May 6, 2010, surrounded by family after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. She was born in 1956 at Cottage Hospital in Woodsville, the youngest child of Frederick and Ellen (Holt) Erb. She grew up in Landaff and had a lifelong passion for healing and helping others. She went on to study nursing, graduating from Concord Hospital School of Nursing. Though she worked in several places, she returned home to Landaff and worked at Littleton Regional Hospital and Ammonoosuc Community Health Services and was also on the Lisbon Life Squad. On Sept. 20, 1986, she was married to Richard Basnar at the Congregational Church in Lisbon. Together they raised two daughters, Amanda, 16 and Christina, 19. Mary loved many things in life, most notably her family, horses, fishing, camping and the ocean. She was predeceased by her mother, Ellen (Holt) Erb. She is survived by her husband, Richard Basnar, her daughters, Amanda and Christina Basnar, her father, Frederick Erb, her brothers, Thomas Erb and Douglas Erb and her sister, Susan (Erb) Herzog as well as many nieces, nephews and their families. She married Donald Leavitt in 1939 and they had six sons, Donald, Ronald, David, Larry, Richard and Roger and three daughters Sandra, Donna and Brenda by whom she is survived, along with their spouses. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson, a sister-in-law Rachel Toussaint, and nieces and nephews. , 85, of Clough Road, North Haverhill, N.H., died on May 8, 2010, at Cottage Hospital in Woodsville, N.H. George was born in Lowell, Mass., on July 28, 1924, to George Chalmers and Doris (Hird) McKelvey. He graduated from Lowell High School in 1942. While there he was a member of the band and played at the World's Fair in New York in 1939. George attended the University of New Hampshire and played solo trumpet with UNH band. In his sophomore year, he was drafted into the U.S. Army where he remained from 1943-1946. After attending his basic training at Fort McClellan, Ala., he was assigned to the Anti-Tank Company of the 326 Glider Infantry Regiment of the 13th Airborne Division in the European Theater. Later he marched down 5th Avenue in New York City in the famous Victory Parade with the 82nd Airborne. He completed his service at Fort Bragg, N.C. Upon his return to civilian life, he returned to UNH where he received a BA in History in 1949 and an MA in History in 1950. From 1950-1952, George served as principal of the North Hampton Elementary School. From 1952-1953, he taught at Woodsville Elementary School in Woodsville, N.H. The following year, he became the teaching principal there until 1969. When the Woodsville and Haverhill School Districts combined, he was appointed as full-time principal of the then K-8 schools, Woodsville Elementary and the James R. Morrill School in North Haverhill. He remained at the two schools until retiring in 1980. He enjoyed listening to and collecting Big Band Music. Traveling, golf, reading and sports (especially the Red Sox, Celtics, Patriots, and Bruins) were his passions and his family meant the world to him. He is survived by his wife of 55 years Mary (Downs) McKelvey: their son George C. McKelvey III and wife Judy of Newport, Vt.; granddaughter Meredith of Boston, Mass.; his sister-in-law Eleanor Riordan of Dover, N.H., along with several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by four generations of the Kimball and Morrill families who have been best friends and neighbors for 54 years. Calling hours will be Tuesday, May 11, from 7-9 p.m. at Ricker Funeral Home, 1 Birch St., Woodsville, N.H. , 88, of St. Johnsbury, passed away Saturday, May 8, 2010. She was born May 21, 1921, in St. Johnsbury, the daughter of Charles L. and Mae (Lacasse) Rattigan. She graduated from St. Johnsbury Academy in 1939. Pat had a 40-year career with Farmers Home Administration and was originally appointed by Pres. Franklin D. Roosevelt; she retired in May 1981. Her last position was administrative officer with the Montpelier office. Over the years Pat received a superior performance award and was cited for five performance suggestion awards. She served on two national task forces in Washington, D.C. On Sept. 15, 1979, she married Robert Packer. They were longtime St. Johnsbury residents of Mt. Pleasant Street; Bob predeceased her Aug. 29, 2007. Pat had a deep love for The South Congregational Church; she joined the church in 1934 and was a pianist and past deacon. She is survived by a daughter Michele "Mickey" Howarth and husband Dave of Tunkhannock, Pa.; two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren: Christine Lemanowicz husband Mike and their two sons Michael and Ryan; Cheryl Pierson and her children Briana, Renee, and Calvin; step-son Michael Packer of St. Johnsbury and his six children Jacob, Alina, Michael, Luke, Levi, and Jacqueline; in-laws Richard Packer and wife Carol of Nassau, N.Y., Virginia Doble of Gorham, N.H., Phyllis McNeil of Portsmouth, N.H. was born Jan. 3, 1921, in St. Giles, Quebec, the daughter of Nicholas O'Gorman and Rose Bagley. Her family moved to Island Pond, Vt., in 1927 where Bertha attended St. Mary's Academy, graduating in 1938. Bertha passed away May 4, 2010 in Newport, Vt. Bertha worked 27 years for the A & P Company, first in its Island Pond store and then in Montpelier, Barre and Gorham, N.H. She completed her career as a book keeper at the Mountain View House in Whitefield, N.H. Bertha was an active participant in numerous community organizations, among them the Brighton American Legion Auxiliary, Random Ladies Club, Catholic Daughters of America, and St. Mary's Alumni. She was renown for helping others in anyway she could. Within Bertha's extended family, she was everyone's "godmother." Bertha was predeceased by her parents and eleven siblings. She leaves her sisters-in-law, Muriel O'Gorman and Dorothy O'Gorman; and several nieces and nephews; great-nieces and -nephews; and great-great-nieces and -nephews. Her funeral Mass was celebrated at St. James the Greater in Island Pond May 8 with burial at Lakeside Cemetery.

She leaves behind her beloved husband Charles E. Walker; her beautiful daughters Chelsie M. Boutin of Littleton, Kelly M. Boutin of Bethlehem, Wendy J. Walker of Wallingford, Conn., Kimberly Christodoulou and husband Constantine of Knoxville, Tenn., and Kari Rinaldo and husband Louis of Wallingford, Conn; her siblings Homer E. Dion Jr. and wife Tina, Barbara A. Clough and husband Donald; and Deborah J. McBey, her closest and dearest friend and husband Randy; many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Michele was a loyal and faithful employee of the Littleton District Court for 13 years and was dedicated to upholding the integrity of the court. Michele enjoyed life and all the simple things that make it up. She loved being outdoors kayaking, boating, camping and hiking and felt blessed to see an eagle and animals. She lived in the now, taking the time each day to smell the roses and living each day to the fullest. She would go out of her way to help others and would do without so others would have things. She loved sitting by a campfire taking in life. A memorial service will be held on May 17, 2010, at Littleton United Methodist Church at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Sam Newton officiating.

of St. Johnsbury, passed away at his home Monday, May 10, 2010, at the age of 89. He was born in St. Johnsbury on Oct. 23, 1920, the son of Albert Wilkins Barney Sr. and Marion Bisbee Barney. Judge Barney graduated from St. Johnsbury Academy as valedictorian of the class of 1938 and in later years became a member of the Board of Trustees. Judge Barney received his undergraduate degree from Yale University. After serving in the United States Navy during World War II, he graduated from Harvard Law School. On Oct. 16, 1948, he and Helen Rondeau were married in Portsmouth, N.H. Prior to beginning a legal career, Al built the original building that grew into The Farm Boy Restaurant. Together he and Helen operated the drive-in and sold ice cream. Judge Barney was admitted to practice in 1949 and represented the town of St. Johnsbury in the House of Representatives in 1951, served as judge of the Caledonia Municipal Court from 1951 to 1952, and on Jan. 11, 1952, he was appointed to the Superior Court bench, where he served until 1959. At that time, he was elected Associate Justice of the Supreme Court, and became Chief Justice on March 2, 1974, remaining in that capacity until his retirement on Jan. 1, 1983. He was known for his straightforward approach to the writing of Supreme Court opinions, opinions that are constantly referred to today in legal circles. Chief Justice Barney was a longtime faculty member with the American Academy of Judicial Education. From 1981 to 1982 he brought honors to the state of Vermont as the elected chairman of National Conference of Chief Justices. Al was a past long-standing Rotarian; he and others conceived the idea of a planetarium at the Fairbanks Museum, and he was instrumental in the development of the Rotary Planetarium at the Fairbanks Museum. Al also thought it was a shame there were plans to tear down the St. Johnsbury House and was part of the movement that ended up saving the grand hotel. He is survived by Helen, his wife of 61 years; three daughters,: Marianne Barney of Franconia, N.H., Joan D'Angelo and husband Michael of Tilton, N.H., Kathleen Bussiere and husband Michael of Peacham; eight grandchildren, Ethan and Alexandra, Arletta and Willis, Nicholas and Julianna, Sarah and Christopher; one great-granddaughter Hannah; Helen's sister Shirley Brittell of Clinton, Mass.; cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by Helen's sister Barbara Nason and by Helen's brother Robert Rondeau. Memorial services will be held in St. Johnsbury this Saturday, May 15 at 2 p.m. at The North Congregational Church, 1325 Main St. Family committal services will have been held at the Mt. , 51, of West Burke, passed away unexpectedly at her home early Tuesday morning, May 11, 2010. She was born July 1, 1958, in St. Johnsbury, the daughter of Leon and Marilyn (Baird) Drew. In 1976 she graduated from Lyndon Institute. On Nov. 27, 1976, Jane married Kenneth Deth Jr. Jane worked more than 20 years as the bookkeeper, cashier and girl-Friday for the May Store in Lyndonville. She then worked two jobs as a bookkeeper for American Commercial in Lyndon, and Blake Jenkins in St. Johnsbury. Jane enjoyed bowling and was the secretary of the Friday Night League, and bowled in the Thursday Night League at Gold Crown Lanes in St. Johnsbury for many years. She had been a Sunday school teacher at West Burke Methodist Church. Horseback riding and competing with her horses at local events with her daughter Rose brought her much pleasure, as did traveling and camping around New England. Jane was an avid Red Sox fan who hated the New York Yankees with equal enthusiasm. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother and mother in-law, Jane is also remembered as a loving daughter, sister, aunt and cousin. She planned and hosted many family reunions over the years, and was loved by all who knew her. She was predeceased by her father, Leon Drew, and her father-in-law, Kenneth Deth Sr. Survivors include her husband of nearly 34 years, Kenneth Deth Jr. of West Burke; their children Kevin Deth of West Burke, and Rose Achilles and husband William of West Burke; one granddaughter, Meghan Achilles; her mother, Marilyn Drew of West Burke; two brothers, Michael Drew and wife Kimberly of West Burke, and Duane Drew and his wife Kimberly of Richmond, Va.; her mother-in-law, Elaine Deth of East Haven; several brothers- and sisters-in-law; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends to whom Jane was quite close. She was a homemaker and home-schooled their kids. She loved children and taught first grade for many years. Judy will be remembered for her willing heart to give, to help others, to serve, for her ready smile and her heart and love for children. , 82, formerly of Lyndonville, died Monday afternoon May 10, 2010, at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital in St. Johnsbury. She was born Dec. 10, 1927, in Lyndon, Vt., the daughter of Robert and Vera (Edmonds) Watkins. In 1945 she graduated from Lyndon Institute. Marion worked for EHV Weidmann Industries Inc. in St. Johnsbury for 20 years as a purchasing agent, retiring in 1992. She was a member of the Lyndonville chapter of the Order of Eastern Star. Spending time with her children and grandchildren brought her much pleasure. She also enjoyed gardening. Marion had resided at St. Johnsbury Health and Rehabilitation Center since 2003, where she received wonderful care and companionship. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Daniel Garvey in 2001; and her sister, Barbara Watkins, this past March 31. Survivors include her three sons and their wives, John and Cathy Nichols of Avon, Colo., Richard and Diana Nichols of Southborough, Mass., and David and Jane Nichols of Springfield, Vt.; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Ann Somers of Barre, Vt.; her first husband, Kenneth Nichols of St. Johnsbury Center; nieces and nephews. of St. Johnsbury passed away at the age of 98 to be united in heaven by all those loved ones who passed away before her. She was born on Sept. 21, 1911, of Czech descent in Egypt, Pa., the fifth child of nine children born to Mike and Anna Stempak. In February of 1937, she married Elmer Billig; they had two children, Michael and Ruth. Catherine worked at a silk mill for a while, but her greatest love was that of being an accomplished floral designer in Catasauqua, Pa. In 1968 Elmer and Catherine moved to their Victorian house in St. Johnsbury at the head of Main Street (123 Main St.). Catherine was a floral designer at the former Flowerland in Lyndonville and later at Evergreen Gifts in St. Johnsbury. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, where she gave the memorial gardens much love and attention. For many years Elmer and Catherine were the unofficial caretakers of Arnold Park. She was one of the charter members of the Seed and Weed Club. She is survived by her son Dr. Michael Billig and wife Doreen of Waterford, Vt.; daughter Ruth Haas of New Mexico; two grandchildren, Heidi Billig of Pinedale, Wyo., Kurt Billig and wife Elke of Waterford, Vt.; two step grandchildren, Paul Gray and wife Kathy of Island Pond, Vt., and Travis Gray of Honolulu, Hawaii; five great-grandchildren, Jasper, Kaiya, Allison, Samuel and Luke; one sister, Helen Paul of Coplay, Pa.; and a very special niece, Kathleen Paul from South Carolina. She was predeceased by her husband Elmer; seven brothers and sisters, Mike Stempak, Anna Senyak, Sue Grason, Mary Ballas, Sophie Stempak, John Stempak and Andrew Stempak; and one step grandchild, Wendy Gray. Visitation will be held me Monday evening from 6 to 7 p.m. at Sayles Funeral Home located at 525 Summer St. in St. Johnsbury. passed away Friday evening, May 7, at Fort Hood, Texas. His untimely death was the result of injuries sustained in a single-vehicle accident. Pfc. Smith was born in Portland, Maine, on Oct. 3, 1988, to Linda (Stimson) Larrivee and Daniel Smith. Barry was a graduate of Littleton High School, although he did attend one year at Edward Little High School. After graduating from high school, Barry attended Hesser College in Manchester, N.H., and graduated with his associates degree in criminal justice. Barry later enlisted in the United States Army in October 2009 and attended basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. After basics, Barry attended MLRS (Multiple Launch Rocket System) training at Fort Sills, Okla. PFC Smith was eventually assigned to Fort Hood, Texas, in the 2nd Battalion, 20th Field Artillery (MLRS) 41st Fires Brigade. Barry possessed a larger-than-life personality and touched everyone he met. He had an abundance of friends and drew people to him like a moth to a flame with his easy smile, infectious laugh and kind heart. Everyone who knew him loved him. Barry loved the outdoors, hunting and camping with family and friends. He was always up for an adventure and managed to make every adventure exciting. He had a crazy love for cars and trucks, truly anything with a motor. More than anything else, PFC Smith was PROUD to serve our country in the United States Army. He will always be cherished, loved and deeply missed. of Strafford, N.H., the marvelous matriarch of the Carpenter/Graden/Clarke family, graduated to glory on May 10, 2010. Elsie left just short of her 99th birthday (Aug. 29, 1911). She lived through remarkable and difficult era in our nation's history and was truly a great member of the "Greatest Generation." Five generations celebrated with her as she prepared for her home-going. Elsie was greatly loved by family and friends. Elsie was preceded into the presence of Christ by her dear husband Lloyd Wesley Carpenter, grandson Matthew Graden, granddaughter Jenny Graden Snyder, and son-in-love Deacon William Graden. Elsie and Lloyd were long-time residents of Randolph, N.H.; but after Lloyd's death she made her home with her daughters Sabra Carpenter Graden, first in Island Pond, Vt., and then in St. Johnsbury, Vt. At the time of her death she was living with her daughter and son-in-love, the Rev. Carolyn Clarke and James Davis Clarke in Strafford, N.H. Elsie's values live on in her daughters Sabra Carpenter Graden and the Rev. Carolyn Carpenter Clarke. Her surviving grandchildren are Mark Graden, Timothy Graden and Rebecca Graden Watkins. all of Lyndonville, Vt.; Sabra Clark Timmins of Charlottesville, Va.; Benjamin Clarke of Winooski, Vt., and Heather Clarke Wittmann of Hanover, N.H.; 16 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren. , 86, of Barton. passed away May 13, 2010, in Glover. He was born Feb. 19, 1924, in Newport, a son of Herbert and Ara (Reed) Elliott. On June 12,1947, he married Grace Urie who survives him. He entered the United States Army where he served in the Tenth Mountain Division and in 1945 the division was sent to southern Italy to drive the German forces off of the Opemines Mountains, helping to bring an end to the war. In June of 2009, The Vermont Ski Museum presented Mr. Elliott a Vermont Ski Museum Hall of Fame Medal. Kenneth was a Barton Village Trustee for over 20 years and a member of the Masonic F&AM Lodge #55 for over 60 years. Among his hobbies he enjoyed hunting, and wood working as he made much of their furniture. He was also a Boy Scout Leader and worked on the Barton Fair. He is survived by his wife Grace Elliott of Barton, a son Raymond Elliott of Essex Junction, Vt., and by a sister Florence Hamilton of Newport. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.

She was born in Montpelier, Vt, on June 11, 1926, the daughter of the late Harry and Marcia (Isham) Nichols. She was predeceased by her husband, Paul Stevens, on Aug. 21, 1978, and by her sister-in-law Virginia Nichols on March 10, 2003. Margaret loved to bake and make treats for everyone, especially friends in the nursing home. She was always cooking! , 90, of Danville, passed away at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital early Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2010, surrounded by loved ones. He was born in Jay, Vt., Aug. 28, 1919, the son of Floyd and Euphemia (Jewett) Austin. He grew up in North Danville. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 47 years, Dorothy Jamieson Austin; a brother, Colin Austin; and a close cousin, Cecil Rockwell. He is survived by five children, Jean DeGeorge and husband Tony of The Villages, Fla., Shari Ross of Danville, Wendy Lamphere and husband Jeffrey of Peacham, Jay Austin and wife Maggie of Danville, Lynn Austin of Danville; 10 grandchildren, Tony and Greg DeGeorge, Justin Ross, Seth, Ben and Ryan Lajoie, Melissa Blanchard, Todd Lamphere, Sarah Ouellette and Travis Austin; he also enjoyed eight great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held Friday, May 21 at 11 a.m. at Danville Green Cemetery. The Rev. Judi Horgan will officiate followed by military honors. A celebration of his life will be held at the home of Jay and Maggie Austin (300 Houghton Bridge Road, Danville) following the service.

, 84, of 247 Lancaster Road, Groveton, N.H., died on Monday, May 17, 2010, at Weeks Memorial Hospital from complications following a fall that involved a broken hip. She was born Dec. 2, 1925, in Lunenburg, Vt., to William McKearney and Marion (Scott) McKearney. She was the youngest of six children. On April 11, 1944, she married Richard "Dick" Sheltry of Groveton, and over the next 5.5 years had three children, Brenda, Charlotte and Steve. In 1961, she and Dick build their life-long home on Lancaster Road. Peg was known for her ability to raise almost any kind of plant, including her large begonia, which was placed by her front door; she was known for Christmas crafts, which she donated to the church, the making of Halloween costumes for her children, assisting with decorating for Groveton High School events when her children were students, and sewing and knitting for her family. She was a terrific cook and was famous for her apple pie. Members of her family include her two daughters, Brenda Dowst of Sunapee, N.H., and Charlotte Sheltry of Groveton; and her son Stephen Sheltry of Lisbon, N.H; nine grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. There will be no calling hours. Funeral services will be held at the United Methodist Church on Church Street in Groveton on Thursday, May 20 at 2 p.m. Burial will follow at the Northumberland Cemetery. She married William E. Catanzarita. After moving to Lyndonville, she worked as a secretary for Hopkins and Sons Oil Company, and under Marjorie Drown at The Pines. Susie owned and operated the Rustic Haven Campground in Concord for many years. She enjoyed reading and was an avid reader. Elizabeth is survived by two daughters, Mary E. Marcotte of Barnet and Frances A. Berry and husband Gilbert of Lyndonville; three grandsons, Travis Wright and wife Nancy, Philo Marcotte and wife Ana, Brian Berry and wife Courtney; great-grandchildren Elizabeth Wright, Zackary Wright, Aden Marcotte, Owen Marcotte, Dylan Morse, Madison Berry; a sister, Kathleen Brooks; many good friends at the Canterbury Inn. Henry worked for RCT, and truly enjoyed the many people he encountered there. He also worked at Dunkin' Donuts as a manager. Henry loved to spend his time playing cribbage and Texas Hold 'em. Going to Fryeburg Fair was a favorite of his, even though sometimes it was too cold for him to enjoy. He also enjoyed going to Devil's Hopyard Campground in Salem, Conn., and skipping stones with his children. Henry is survived by his companion, Pamela Bunnell; his children, Brent DiMascola and wife Jasmin of Massachusetts, Kristen Penza and husband Carmine of Groton, Conn., Ryan Culley of New London, Conn., Derek and Tyler Oppelt of Lunenburg; a special sister-in-law Johanna Pierce and husband Stephen of Lyndonville; three grandchildren, Chase, Alexander and Kaitlyn. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, May 19 at 11 a.m., at Grove Cemetery in East St. Johnsbury. John Sleeper will officiate. Anyone wishing to attend is welcome. She was born April 11, 1952, in St. Johnsbury, Vt., the daughter of Charles and Barbara Metevier. In 1970 she graduated class salutatorian from Concord High. She went on to become an X-ray technician and then a full-time mother to her beautiful children. Spending time with her children and grandchildren brought her much pleasure. She loved to play the piano and cross-stitch, and pursued holistic medicines/cures, particularly the use of herbs and the practice of iridology. Survivors include her husband of 20 years, Dennis Ainsworth of Woodbury; daughter Erinn LeMay Blodgett, husband and two grandsons of Lyndonville; son Maurice LeMay and granddaughter of Montpelier; daughter Amanda Lee, husband and granddaughter of Barre; step son Jared Ainsworth and grandson of Barre; parents Charles and Barbara Metevier of St. Johnsbury; sister Teri George, husband, two nieces and one great-niece of St. Johnsbury; sister Lisa Metevier and fiancé Doug Vachereau of Burlington. Born Nov. 10, 1932, in Boston, Mass., she was the daughter of Mary Bowden Dodge Silk and Frank Schuyler Dodge of Whitefield, N.H., and the sister of John B. Dodge of Palm City, Fla., and the late Frank Schuyler Dodge Jr. of Bethlehem, N.H. Mary attended high school at the Dana Hall School in Wellesley, Mass., and matriculated at Cornell University. She was married to the late Stephen R. Astle, with whom she enjoyed many years in Walpole. A well-known breeder of Connemara ponies and golden retrievers, Mary nurtured all creatures, great and small - as well as six children. Mary was an active member of the Connemara Pony Society and supporter of the U.S. Equestrian Team. She was also an avid reader and bridge enthusiast. She is survived by her six children and their families: John D. Bailey of Burlington, Vt., wife Jean and sons Andrew and Eric; Kathryn Bailey of Hartland, Vt., husband William B. Hoyt, daughter Caitlin and granddaughter Nunzi; Thomas H. Bailey of Pound Ridge, N.Y., wife Deborah Chadwick and daughter Grace; Jody B. Tvetenstrand of Binghamton, N.Y., husband Christian, daughters Emily and Astrid, and son Per; Anne B. Burridge of Newburyport, Mass., husband Lewis, daughters Amanda and Allison, and son Samuel; and Molly B. Austin of Surry, N.H., and husband David. died May 16. She was 79 and lived in Topsham, Maine. She was a native of Providence, R.I., where she met her husband of 37 years, Thomas J. Brennan, who predeceased her Sept. 16, 1992. A retired paralegal, she considered her four children her greatest accomplishment. The daughter of a schoolteacher and a mail carrier, Jean Marie Riley was born July 12, 1930, to Madeline E. and William J. Riley; her only sibling, William, was born 15 months later. She graduated from St. Xavier Academy in Providence in 1948, and from the Katherine Gibbs School, also in Providence, in 1950, and quickly landed a legal secretary job at the city's top law firm, Edwards & Angell, now Edwards Angell Palmer & Dodge. She met her future husband, Tom, a Providence College grad and aspiring salesman, after Mass one Sunday at St. Mary's Church on Broadway in Providence, the same church where they were married on June 4, 1955. They made their first home in Castleton, N.Y., and later moved to Clinton, a small town outside Utica where they raised their four children until a job transfer for Tom led them to relocate to West Chester, Pa. Before moving to Maine three years ago, Jean worked as a plaintiff personal injury paralegal at law firms in Media, Pa., and Utica, N.Y. In the 1980s, she worked on behalf of Philadelphia Navy Yard workers dying of asbestos exposure. Clients praised her fierce advocacy skills and deep sense of fairness. In addition to her brother Bill and sister-in-law Ann of Laurel, Md., she is survived by four children and seven grandchildren: daughters Lisa of Glen Ridge, N.J., and Michaela of Ann Arbor, Mich.; sons Thomas of Yarmouth, Maine, and David of St. Johnsbury, Vt.; sons-in-law Scott Raab and Peter Linebaugh; daughters-in-law Charlotte and Jolene; granddaughters Riley, Isabel, Molly and Fionnuala; and grandsons Judah, Darby and Daniel. There will be a memorial Mass at 10 a.m. June 4 at St. Mary's Church, 538 Broadway in Providence, R.I., and she will be buried next to Tom at St. Ann's Cemetery in Cranston. , 92, died Monday evening, May 17, 2010, at Country Village Genesis Eldercare Center, Lancaster. Mr. Cutting was born in Concord, N.H., Oct. 25, 1917, the son of Carl L. and Stella (Bean) Cutting. He was a 1935 graduate of Simonds High School, Warner, N.H. During World War II, he served with the U.S. Army in England and France. For 43 years he worked for H.P. Hood and was a regional sales manager in Portland, Maine, from 1963 to 1978. During his retirement years in Portland he worked for Hertz Car Rental and several courier services. For many years he was a holiday delivery man for Riff's Flower Shop, Lancaster, N.H. He has resided in Lancaster for the past four years. Mr. Cutting was a member of the Central Square Baptist Church, Portland, Maine, serving as deacon for many years. During his time in Lancaster he has been an active member of Lancaster Congregational United Church of Christ. He was a 32 Degree Mason and member of the Harris Lodge 51, where he also served as past master. Other Masonic memberships include the Deering Lodge 59, the Scottish Rite, and the Kora Shrine and Chanters. Other memberships include the Portland Rotary Club and the American Legion. Earl sang for many organizations and also weddings. He enjoyed carpentry and handyman work. Family members include his wife of 69 years Barbara Y. (Young) Cutting of Lancaster, N.H.; son C. Wayne Cutting and wife Sydnie M. Smith of Kennebunk, Maine; daughter Linda C. Hutchins and husband Dave of Lancaster; six grandchildren, Greg Hutchins and companion Billie Andersen, Stacey and Steve Desrosiers, Lisa and Dereck Courhaine, Lori and Phil Alexander, James and Marie Companion; seven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Mr. Halstead founded the Halstead Insurance Agency, of Fitchburg, Mass., in 1966, and was their president for 33 years, retiring in 1992, before moving to "Penny Lane Farm" in the beautiful town of Danville, Vt. He was a member of St. Bernard's Parish in Fitchburg for many years, and was a 1949 graduate of St. Bernard's High School in Fitchburg and a 1956 graduate of Stonehill College, earning a degree in business administration. He was a member of the Shamrock Club of St. Bernard's High School, a past member of the North Central Massachusetts Chamber of Commerce and Fitchburg Rotary Club, past president of the North County Riding and Driving Club, member of the Irish American Association, Jaycee's and the Appalachian Mountain Club and Air National Guard of Massachusetts. Mr. Halstead was honorably discharged from the Massachusetts Air National Guard with the rank of captain, in 1962, after many years, serving as an intelligence officer. He was a beloved coach through the years of many youth baseball and basketball teams throughout Worcester County and Vermont. He enjoyed mountain climbing, horseback riding, skiing, hiking and traveling. Above all, Bob was a gentleman of integrity who passionately loved his family, community and his Irish heritage. His fondest memories included his two trips to his beloved "Ireland," the multiple family trips throughout the USA, coaching his son's in baseball and basketball, riding horseback with his family and friends and taking long walks with his loyal black lab "Danny Boy." He was born in Boston, Mass., March 27, 1930, a son of the late Brigadier General Lyle Emerson and Eleanor (Layden) Halstead, and lived in Fitchburg for 60 years, before moving to Danville, Vt. The family would especially like to thank Mr. Shawn Hallisey and the wonderful staff at the St. Johnsbury Health and Rehabilitation Center for all their outstanding care and heartfelt support throughout Bob's last years. Bob's family is also very appreciative to Dr. Tim Tanner for his care and guidance. , 98, of Briar Hill Road, North Haverhill, N.H., died May 17, 2010, at Cottage Hospital, Woodsville, NH. She was born in Barnet, Vt., Nov. 14, 1911, the daughter of Jesse and Lena (LaBelle) Russell. She was a graduate of the Barnet public schools and of Wells River High School. She also attended the Boston School of Domestic Science and took courses at the Eastern Maine General Hospital in their dietary department. Pearl had been a longtime North Haverhill resident where prior to her retirement, she worked in the kitchen at the Grafton County Home. She had been a member of Barnet Congregational Church since 1927, and a 60-year member of Iona Lafayette Chapter 42 OES of North Haverhill, which is now Mt. Eustis Chapter 37 Order of the Eastern Star, Littleton, and was active in all aspects of the chapter. She was also a member of the Pine Grove Grange in Bath, and was a member of the former Pink Granite Grange of North Haverhill. She was predeceased by her husband, Max G. Robinson, on Feb. 16, 1976, and her brother Gordon E. Russell on Aug. 20, 2008. Survivors include her brother-in-law Fred Robinson and wife Audrey of North Haverhill; and their daughters Judy Stimson and husband David and family of Bath, and Laury Theriault and husband Paul and family of Monroe, N.H.; and her friends Paula and Richard Stevenson of Barnet. , 70, of Danville, Vt., died on May 17, 2010, at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital in St. Johnsbury, Vt. Stephen was born in Bristol, Conn., Jan. 8, 1940, to Everett C. and Grace (Gearing) White. He graduated from Peacham Academy in 1958 and from Johnson State College in 1982. Following his marriage to Marcia Livingston on March 14, 1959, he entered the U.S. Army and served as a chaplain's assistant for three years. Steve was a self-employed building contractor and later worked for NCMC in St. Johnsbury. He retired as the administrator for the town of Danville in 2002. Stephen was a member of Peacham Congregational Church, where he served as a deacon and on the business committee and church council. He was also active in supporting the church youth group. He served as a volunteer and is a former chief of the Peacham Volunteer Fire Department. He was a 43-year member and former master of the Washburn Lodge 92 F&AM of Danville and was a district deputy of the Grand Lodge of Vermont. However, his greatest passion was for his community and its youth. He coached Little League for 15 years and worked with the Babe Ruth League and youth basketball. Along with his good friend, Jim Craig, they opened the Peacham Ski Tow and operated it for several years. They also re-established and reopened the Peacham gym. He was involved with Fourth of July events and initiating Green-Up Day in Peacham. Following his retirement, he spent countless hours supporting his grandchildren's events at school with sports and generally enjoying their friendship. He enjoyed the time spent at the camp on Martin's Pond and traveling with friends Mac and Mary Wright of Indiana. He was predeceased by his father Everett on Oct. 26, 1986, his mother Grace on June 28, 2002, and by two grandchildren Randy Michael White and Nicole Rae White. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Marcia White of Danville; four sons, Daniel M. and wife Cindy, Richard E. and wife Jill, and Darren H. and wife Ann, all of Danville, and Jeremy S. and wife Sarah of Peacham; 15 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Patricia Kavalski of New Britain, Conn.; a brother David N. "Buck" White and wife Mary of Barnet, Vt.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. There will be no calling hours. She was born in Newbury, Vt., Jan. 29, 1929, the daughter of Neil and Flora (Stevens) Burgess. She attended schools in Rhode Island and Vermont. After her schooling she worked at many different places in the area as well as raising her family. She enjoyed cooking, fishing, reading and family gatherings. She is survived by six daughters, Constance Emerson of Lisbon, N.H., Cynthia Hill of Corinth, Winona Stewart of Corinth, Sandra LeCour of Kansas, Dawn Kidder of Haverhill, N.H., and Sabrina Holland of Fairlee, Vt.; one son, Daniel LeCour of Newbury, Vt.; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. , 96, died peacefully Tuesday, May 18, 2010, at Morrison Nursing Home, Whitefield, N.H. She was born in Berlin, N.H., the daughter of Louis and Mary Shallow Sweeney. She was a graduate of Littleton High School, class of 1932, and of Keene Normal School in 1934 with a degree in music education. She was a substitute teacher for schools in Gilman, Bethlehem and Littleton, N.H. From 1953 to 1977 she owned and managed the Union Hall Company, a block on Main Street where First National Grocery Store, JJ Newbury and Gifts by Rae were located. Mrs. Lytle was an extremely active volunteer in the Littleton community. She served as president of Littleton Improvement Association, of the Littleton Community Nurse Association and of the Littleton Chamber of Commerce. She was treasurer of both the Littleton Community Center and the Littleton Red Cross. She also served as vice president of North Country Home Health Association and was a member of the board of directors of Smith Home for the Elderly. As a member of the First United Methodist Church, she served as president of the U Kan Group and of the United Methodist Women, Northern District. She was also superintendent and treasurer of the Sunday school, secretary and treasurer for the board of trustees, and was a co-founder of the popular Fish Chowder Luncheons. She enjoyed playing bridge, reading, the Boston Red Sox, traveling, her home and yard work. She was predeceased by her parents, her first husband, Lt. Col. Leland R. Dunham in 1951, her second husband James R. Lytle in 1977, and two sisters, Florence Heath Nihan and Mildred Baker Crooks. She is survived by two sons, Rockwood S. , age 80 and a resident of Haverhill, N.H., passed away May 18, 2010, at Cottage Hospital in Woodsville, N.H. Born Jan. 3, 1930, to the late Fred and Mary (Clarke) Ganshaw, she resided in the western New York area. She married Norman W. Martin in 1948 and raised her family in Gasport, N.Y. Marilyn was employed for many years in the Social Services Department of Hilltop Nursing Home, also located in Gasport. She enjoyed camping and sailing with her family on the Great Lakes and renovated a summer cottage on Lake Ontario with her husband, Norman. She and Norman retired to Haverhill, N.H., and immersed themselves in the restoration of a home there. Gardening, antiques and her pets were a particular source of pleasure. Winters were spent touring the South in their motor home. She was predeceased by her brother Fred in 2000, and her husband Norman in 1999. Marilyn and Norman were married for nearly 50 years. She is survived by three sons, Jeffrey W. Martin of East Corinth, Vt., Scott T. Martin of Newbury, Vt., and Timothy M. Martin of Ringoes, N.J.; and six grandchildren. Service will be at graveside in Horsemeadow Cemetery North Haverhill, N.H., Thursday, May 27, 2010, at 3 p.m. There will be no calling hours. She was raised in New Rochelle, N.Y., and graduated from The Westtown School in Westtown, Pa., in 1936. She graduated from Wellesley College in 1940 with bachelor's degree in philosophy, and married John C. Starr of Montreal in the spring of 1941. They resided and raised their family of three boys in the Boston area. She is survived by her eldest son David J. Starr of Franconia, N.H., and youngest son John D. Starr of Bethlehem, N.H.; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She was predeceased by her sisters, Catherine Potter of Tenafly, N.J., and Nathalie Shipley of Port Washington, N.Y., her former husband John C. Starr of Key Largo, Fla., and her second son Charles C. Starr, of Aspen, Colo. Janet was a homemaker and deeply involved in Republican politics all of her adult life. She served six years as an elected representative in the Massachusetts Statehouse, and on innumerable boards and committees. She was influential in the lives of all her grandchildren, and will be missed by all of her family. She was a long time Cannon Mountain skier, starting in the 1940s, and continuing until her last run in the early 1990s. There will be a celebration of her life at her house in Bethlehem on Sunday, June 6, at 2 p.m.

She was born Sept. 29, 1941, in St. Johnsbury, one of five children born to Leo and Elizabeth (Moses) Greenwood. Besides her father, she was predeceased by a son, Jeffrey Scott Fleurie, in 2001. Betty was a people person. The simple things in life were her greatest joy - her family and all the grandchildren, family outings, crocheting: simple things. She is survived by her mother, Elizabeth Greenwood of St. Johnsbury; four surviving children, Sabrina Fortin and husband Steve of St. Johnsbury, Michael Fleurie and wife Lori of St. Johnsbury, Leighann Fleurie and James Alexander of Barton, Tim Fleurie and wife Lori of West Danville; 15 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; four brothers and sisters, Leo Greenwood of St. Johnsbury, Richard "Dick" Greenwood and wife Linda of St. Johnsbury, Bruce Greenwood and wife Nancy of East Haven, Pamela Parenteau and husband Roger of West Burke; nieces, nephews and their families; several cousins. Tony Hart was a particularly close friend. Graveside services will be held Monday, May 24, at 2 p.m. at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Mr. John Sleeper will officiate at the service. Although Betty did not die of cancer, her family would like to acknowledge the fine care she received at our local hospital. Brochu. She is survived by her two sons, Nathan Hayden serving with Vermont National Guard in Afghanistan and his wife Casey and their unborn child - Stacey's first grandchild - of Woodbury, Vt., and Matthew Hayden stationed with the Marines in Hawaii; three sisters, Nancy Demers of Hardwick, Marcie Brochu of Lyndonville, and Tracy Annis and her husband Alfred of Woodbury; a brother Tod Brochu and his wife Corinne of Hardwick; she also leaves her very special friend and life partner Michael Cary; and many nieces and nephews, friends. She was currently employed at the H. A. Manosh Corp, The Stonegrill Restaurant and Silpada Jewelry. Stacey, who was full of life and loved family, will be missed and remembered by many. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the des Groseilliers Funeral Home, Church Street, Hardwick. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday at 1 pm at St. Norbert's Church Hardwick. Services will also be conducted Wednesday 7 p.m. at Wesley Methodist Church Waterbury. , 64, of Lyndonville, went to be with his Lord and Savior Thursday morning May 20, 2010, surrounded by his family at his home. He was born March 28, 1946, in Abington, Mass., the son of Joseph and Eleanor (Clark) Williamson. Bob graduated from Abington High School in 1964. In the mid 1970s, Bob moved from Massachusetts to Lyndonville. He worked in Westmore for Kimtek Corporation as a machinist and designer of emergency medical rescue equipment for nearly 20 years, a job he thoroughly enjoyed. He was an active member of the Sutton Freewill Baptist Church, and was a member of the Tom Breslin Center in Lyndonville where he enjoyed many visits with his friends. Bob loved the out-of-doors, and his favorite pastimes included hunting, shooting, camping, cycling, kayaking and spending time with his feline companion, Jerry. Survivors include his wife, Cynthia (Norris) Williamson of Lyndonville; his mother, Eleanor Williamson of Abington, Mass.; six children, Robert Williamson Jr. and wife Lisa of Lyndonville, Kevin Williamson and wife Jennifer of Port Charlotte, Fla., Eric Williamson of East Haven, Carla Sargent and husband Eric of Port Charlotte, Fla., Debbie Williamson of Wheelock, and Cheryl Williamson and companion Sterling Denby of Burke Hollow; two step children, Seth Monfette of Lake Havasu City, Ariz., and Jaime Wales and husband Greg also of Lake Havasu City; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marion Hammond and husband Gil of Bradenton, Fla., and Sue Norton and husband Hal of Abington, Mass.; nieces, nephews and many wonderful friends including his employer, Kimball Johnson of Westmore. She was born in Jacksonville, Fla., June 4, 1947, the daughter of Edward and Dorothy (Naugle) Naylor. Raised in Indiana, she graduated from Martinsville, Ind., High School and Flagler College, St. Augustine, Fla. She has worked as a school bus driver for Belyea Transportation, formerly of Monroe, and First Student Bus Company, and served as an EMT on the Monroe FAST Squad. Charlotte lived in Monroe, N.H., most of her adult life and was a member and Past Worthy Matron of Olive Branch Chapter 1 Order of the Eastern Star of Lancaster, N.H., and Mt. Eustis Chapter 37 of Littleton, N.H. She currently was serving as the Grand Martha for the Grand Chapter of New Hampshire. Charlotte enjoyed flower gardening, as well as music and playing her guitar. She was predeceased by her husband Roger Grimsley on May 21, 1985. Survivors include her two daughters, Jessica Brusseau and husband Jon of Littleton, N.H., and Jennifer Grimsley and fiancé Erik Smith of Cambridge, Vt.; six grandchildren, Nathan Brusseau, Courtney Brusseau, Joseph Rodger, Wyatt Rodger, Josh Hill, and Devon Hill; her mother-in-law, Arlene Quick and husband James of Rochester, N.Y.; and her adopted children, Joan and Carol Emerson of Woodsville. Gary graduated from Mainland High School in Daytona Beach, and after serving in the Army, he worked for Florida Power & Light for more than 20 years, both as a lineman and truck driver. After retirement, Gary enjoyed daily walks on the beach and keeping his life simple. Gary was predeceased by his father Howard in 1988 and his mother Jane in 1997. He is survived by his son Mark G. , 98, longtime resident of Mountain Avenue in St. Johnsbury, passed away on Friday, May 21, 2010, at the St. Johnsbury Health & Rehab Center where she had resided since May of 2008. She was born in St. Johnsbury on Feb. 22, 1912, of French Canadian heritage, one of four children born to Honore and Maria (Boutette) Gagnon. Lorraine's children remember their home was always open to their friends; it was nothing for her to set another plate or make another bed, and she gave shelter to many who needed a place to stay. She raised five of her 10 children all by herself as her husband John passed away in 1961 at the age of 53; she was 49. Family was what Lorraine's life was all about. Lorraine was a life member of VFW Auxiliary in St. Johnsbury; Lorraine wanted to be known as just one of the troops and never held office, although she could be depended on for all the VFW functions. She was predeceased by her husband, John Gammell, an infant daughter Viola; daughter Lorraine Stuart and her husband John, daughter-in-law Ernestine Gammell, grandsons Stanley Fenoff, Richard Gammell Jr., and Lee Smith, and Sharon's special friend Bub Noyes. Lorraine is survived by nine of her 11 children, John Gammell and wife Joan of St. Johnsbury, Helen Laberge and husband Robert of North Monroe, N.H., Richard Gammell and wife Connie of St. Johnsbury, Robert Gammell and wife Jini of St. Johnsbury, Roger Gammell of St. Johnsbury, Kenneth Gammell and wife Joanne of Newark, James Gammell and wife Lynn of Greenville, N.C., Sharon Sinclair of Wheelock, and Victor Gammell of St. Johnsbury; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held at Sayles Funeral Home this Tuesday, May 25, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Cars will then proceed to Mt. Pleasant Cemetery for a graveside funeral service. , of Lyndonville, died peacefully at her home early Saturday morning May 22, 2010, at the of 92. She was born Oct. 14, 1917, in North Troy, the daughter of Oscar and Fannie (Wilson) Larabee. In 1935 Shirley graduated from Lyndon Institute and had been the class secretary for years. On Oct. 6, 1935, she married Lawrence Paquette. He predeceased her on Dec. 12, 1964. On July 10, 1971, she married John McLaughlin. She had worked for St. Johnsbury Trucking Co. in St. Johnsbury as an accounts receivable clerk until her retirement in 1979. Shirley was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 30 of Lyndon, the VFW Auxiliary Post 793 of St. Johnsbury, the Lyndon Senior Center, R.S.V. P. of Lyndon, and had been a 4-H leader for many years. She knitted and crocheted many sweaters, afghans, and doilies for family and friends over the years, and was an avid Bingo fan. Besides her first husband Lawrence, Shirley was also predeceased by her parents; her twin infant sons; seven brothers, Alvin, Robert, Ivan, Charles, Kennyth, Dean, and Dale Larabee; and four grandchildren. Survivors include her husband John McLaughlin of Lyndonville; three children: Elson Paquette and wife Barbara of Bellevue, Neb., Norman Paquette of Lyndonville, and Judy Little of Lyndonville; eight grandchildren: Teresa Morrison and husband Brad, Charles Paquette and wife Beverly, Pamela Healey and husband Barry, Celina Little and companion Patrick Rancourt, Katrina Haslam and husband Richard, Serena Parker, Garrett Paquette and wife Julie, Kimberly Walker and husband Roy; 15 great grandchildren: Preston and Cameron Paquette, Jillaine and Nicholas Morrison, Dallas and Dalton Healey, Karina, Marina and Gordon Haslam, Brennan and Camille Parker, Jake and Mayla Paquette, and Harrison and Ella Walker; her sister, Virginia Blodgett and husband Warren of Orleans; many nieces, nephews, and Bingo friends. A Mass of Christian burial will be held Wednesday, May 26, at 11 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Lyndonville with the Rev. Dwight Baker celebrant. She was born Sept. 13, 1939, in Irasburg, the daughter of the late Cecil and Thelma (Keith) Sheperd. She graduated from Cabot High School, Class of 1957. On Dec. 29, 1960, she married Carroll O. Bashaw in Montpelier. They made their home in Marshfield and Cabot for more than 45 years, before moving to Crossville, Tenn., in 2005. In her earlier years, she was employed by Cabot Creamery in their lab. Following her marriage, she stayed at home to care for her family. She and her husband were members of the Green Mountain Bandits CB Radio Club. They enjoyed talking with radio enthusiasts all over the world and organizing a yearly club get-together in Cabot. She was an avid Elvis Presley fan and Parcheesi player. She enjoyed their years in Crossville meeting new friends, sight seeing and touring local attractions. Other enjoyments included cooking, cross-stitch embroidery and Bingo at the local community center. Survivors include her husband, Carroll, of Crossville; two daughters, Diane Bashaw of Cabot, and Becky Toland and husband Tom of Waltham, Mass.; one grandson, Ryan Toland, of Waltham, Mass; one aunt; several nieces, nephews and cousins. of Snake Road, West Newbury died unexpectedly Monday evening May 24, 2010, at home. He was 79. Born on May 13, 1931, in Westford, Mass., he was the son of Thomas and Flora (Gelinas) Blowey. On Aug. 25, 1951, he married Ellen Stone in Granville, Mass. A lifelong heavy-equipment operator, he was employed by E.A. Comeau in Concord, Mass., the state of Vermont, and the town of Bradford. For the past several years, he and Ellen volunteered at the Orford Senior Center, retiring just last week. His pastimes included repairing lawn tractors, gardening, spending time and playing cribbage with his family, and tending to his trout pond. He was a lifelong member of the Franco-American Club in Westford, Mass. He leaves his wife of 58 years Ellen Blowey of West Newbury, Vt.; his children, Joseph Blowey and wife Joan of Massachusetts, Linda Bedinger of Massachusetts, Donna Lally and husband Thomas of Newbury, Karen Blowey of Woodsville, Kenny Blowey of West Newbury, and Steven Blowey and wife Kim of Haverhill; sister-in-law Theo Blowey of Landaff, N.H.; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. , 83, died May 25, 2010, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon. Harry was born in Littleton, the son of Harry T. and Effie (Towle) Andross. Harry served in the U.S. Army in Korea, and was a self-employed plumbing, heating and electrical contractor for many years. He has been a member of the Lisbon Fire Department for the past 56 years, many of them as fire chief, where he was also active in the Twin State Mutual Fire Aid Association. He was a member of the Lions Club and several other organizations. He is survived by his wife, Agnes (Harrigan) Andross, of Lisbon; his son Richard and wife Elizabeth (Coombs) of Franconia; daughter Barbara and husband Gregory Odell of Dalton; son Thomas and wife Sharie (Webster) of Lisbon; and six grandchildren. There will be a celebration of life at The Shared Ministry, Lisbon White Church, on Tuesday, June 1, at 11 a.m. A reception hosted by the Lisbon Fire Department, will follow at the Lisbon Town Hall. He participated in races with his family. He was a three-time Pony Pulling Champion of New England. He enjoyed being in the demolition derby, where he won many awards with his "Plum Crazy Purple Lucky #13" car. He had a natural ability to transform a pile of junk into a work of art. Sundays were family days full of hard work. He had a special love for his granddaughter, Shelbie, sharing "silly papa's cookies" and her horse "Spikie." He also enjoyed his many trips back to his home state of Vermont, traveling through "Chicargo" (which was his "Steveism" for Chicago). Steve was a loving brother, uncle, father, grandfather and friend, and was a father figure to a special nephew, Howie. He enjoyed touching everyone's life and thought more about their well-being than his own. He started hunting as a young lad and through the years he spent many days hunting with family and friends. He was a dedicated worker, which was learned working side by side with his father. He enjoyed sitting on the porch drinking coffee with Julie Ann and talking about good times. Dancing on the bar and playing pool with his broomstick were some of his favorite pastimes. Living in Hyattville was a time of love and laughter and drinking homemade wine by the crick. Steve will always be remembered as a good friend by many in the East and West. He always has something funny to say. "CRAZY AIN'T IT!" He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his sweetheart, Julie Ann Snider of Hyattville, Wyo., and her family; his sons David Bowen of West Charleston, Vt., Ben Switser and companion Trisha Newland of East Burke, Vt.; his daughters Stephanie and husband Greg Ely of Sutton, Vt., Crystal Switser of Burke Hollow, Vt.; his granddaughter Shelbie Ely; his sisters Jennie and husband Wayne Dion of Irasburg, Vt., Audrey and husband Mike Hearne of Sheffield, Vt., Regina Switser of Colebrook, N.H., Sally Switser of Sutton; his brother Elvin and wife Carrie Switser of Sutton; and numerous uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. A cookout and bonfire party to celebrate the life of Steve will be held Saturday, June 12, 2010, at 5 p.m. at Jeff Norris' North Ridge Road home in Sutton, Vt. Bring a dish/salad, BYOB, and chair. A private burial will be held at Hillside Cemetery in West Burke, Vt. , age 90, passed away peacefully at St. Johnsbury Health & Rehab Friday, May 28, 2010, with her daughters by her side. She had been a resident there for four years. She was born in Eliot, Maine, Aug. 10, 1919, to Carl and Daisy Loura. She married Chester S. Barnes in Burlington, Vt., Sept. 18, 1938. He predeceased her in 1974. She later married Francis Couture who also predeceased her in 2000. Her son, Raymond Barnes, predeceased her in 2001. She leaves two daughters, Betty (Barnes) Demers and husband Daniel of Lyndonville, and Lorraine (Barnes) Douglass and husband Sterling of St. Johnsbury. She leaves six grandchildren: Eric Demers and wife Brooke, Craig Demers and wife Julie, Raymond Barnes Jr., Nyia (Barnes) Kittredge and husband Brian, Michael Barnes, Dwayne Barnes and wife Tiffany. She leaves 10 great-grandchildren: Emily and Garrett Demers, Hailey and Hannah Demers, Tyler, Brittany and Alisha Barnes, Rufus Jr. and Derek Dawson, Brianna Barnes. She also leaves two sisters, Leola Fortier of St. Johnsbury and Beverly Phelps of Hardwick, as well as nieces, nephews and cousins. She was a very loving and giving mother. She loved cooking for her children and went out of her way to spend all the time she could with them. She enjoyed gardening, card playing, especially Canasta, and had a special place in her heart for cats. She was always looking out for others' needs and gave cheerfully out of her heart. Lorraine Louise Silver

of Walden was born in Hardwick, Vt., June 16, 1915, the daughter of Alfred and Mary Jane Demars. She attended Hardwick Academy, graduating with honors in 1933. She married John T. Silver in 1943 living on a farm in Greensboro Bend where she was a housewife, gardener and accomplished artist. She created and managed the Silver Nursery for many years. She spent her retirement years establishing and managing rental properties, developing and selling real estate. She spent many winters vacationing in Arizona. She is survived by her husband of many years, John T. Silver, and by three sons, Howard G. Silver of Mesa, Ariz., James L. Silver of Greensboro Bend, and Kenneth R. Bacon of New York. As well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was a person of great faith attending St. Michael's Church in Greensboro Bend. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the des Groseilliers Funeral Home on Church Street in Hardwick. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday at St. Michael's Church at 1 p.m. with interment to follow in Fairview Cemetery Hardwick.

, 88, died peacefully on Sunday, May 30, 2010, at The Morrison Nursing Home in Whitefield, N.H., with his family by his side. Born Nov. 26, 1921, in Berlin, N.H., a son of Alphonse and Celina (Bergeron) Dumas he came to Groveton from Lancaster and lived in Groveton for over 35 years before moving to Whitefield. Before retiring he was employed by Normandeau Trucking for many years. He was a member of the St. Marguerite d'Youville Parish of Groveton. Fred was a past member of the Groveton Fire Department; he was employed as a Groveton Police Officer for eight years; past Groveton Ambulance Corp member for five years and was the Ambulance Corp director for four years. Fred is survived by his brother Joseph "George" Dumas and wife Carline of Whitefield; two sisters Irene Bourassa of Essex Junction, Vt., and Doris Whitcomb of Whitefield and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Dorothy "Dot" Dumas May 12, 2000; and a sister Dora Bourassa in 2002. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, June 2, 2010, from 3-5 p.m. at the Armstrong-Charron Funeral Home in Groveton. Mass will be on Thursday, June 3, 2010, at 10 a.m. at the St. Francis Xavier Church in Groveton with Fr. Daniel Deveau, pastor officiating. Inurnment will be at the convenience of the family in the Northumberland Cemetery.
