RICHARD A. EMMONS
....show MONTPELIER - Richard Armand "Buzz" Emmons, 76, died peacefully at home with his family present on Feb. 2, 2010. He was born in Littleton, N.H., Feb. 5, 1933, at his grandmother's house. He grew up in St. Johnsbury, the son of Isabel Coty and Horace Emmons. In 1955, he married Janice Barclay Jones, who predeceased him in 2003. Before moving to Montpelier, Buzz worked on pipelines in Massachusetts, New Mexico and Ohio. He founded the Vermont Expert Tree Service as a young man, and had a lucrative business with many faithful customers and friends he made along the way. Buzz loved his family to the fullest, and they loved him dearly in return. He was never too busy for a chat or visit and he loved to hear stories about the children and the grandchildren. He was always supportive of his kids and their endeavors, and readily lent an ear to hear about their lives and to share memories with them. Buzz even bartered services with the dentist so that his kids could have proper dental care, including braces. When the kids were young, he and Janice enjoyed many summers camping at Lake Groton and Lake Eden. One year, they packed up the kids for a trip to California to visit Janice's brother and family for Christmas, all seven packed into a station wagon and a trailer for the haul. What a memorable trip it was. Buzz and Janice also loved to travel cross country with Gram Emmons in tow. Oh the stories they told! Ra, as he was known to the grandchildren, loved to swim in the river, tinker on various vehicles for months on end, provide multiple rides up in the bucket truck, and give rides on his fourwheeler. Buzz and Janice went to Sebring, Fla., as snow birds for many years. They enjoyed the warm weather as much as having family and friends come to visit. Buzz is survived by his children, Cindy Bullard and husband Stephen of Barre, Marcia Haggett and husband John of Lake Elmore, JoAnne Emmons of Ukiah, Calif., Gail Brosseau and husband Buddy of Colchester, and Richard H. Emmons of Middlesex. Also grandchildren Jeremy and Joshua Haggett, Rachel and Karen Embraza, Isaac Gardner, Eric Benda, Brett and Aisha Brosseau, Holli Brigante and husband Rick, Derek Brosseau, Brittany Lafirira and Madisyn Emmons. Buzz also had 10 great-grandchildren. He is survived by his brother Horace "Sonny" Emmons and his wife Betty of Sebring, Fla.; his sister, Margaret "Sis" Houle of Berlin; and their families. Buzz will be missed by his faithful companion Tiny, the cat. Buzz was an avid hunter and fisherman and never liked to miss an opportunity to do either. He was very social and loved a good laugh. He was a member of the Montpelier Elks, the Mutuo, the Moose Club, and the VFW. Buzz loved playing cards and could be found on Thursday afternoons at the Elks Club with a beer and cards in hand. Buzz will be missed by the many people who passed his house, saw him out mowing a piece of the yard every decent day of the summer, and gave him a toot and a wave. The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at the FAHC dialysis unit at CVH for their special love and care of Buzz. He really did look forward to seeing you each visit. Thanks also to the staff from Central Vermont Home Health & Hospice (CVHHH) and the endless questions and resolutions they cheerfully handled at odd dates and times. You are the best! There are no calling hours and Buzz's ashes will be spread according to his wishes by his family at a later date. Please join the family for a send-off party for Buzz at the Capitol Plaza in Montpelier on Saturday, Feb. 13, 2010 at 2 p.m. Since Buzz was a casual guy, feel free to come dressed casually. Hope to see you there. In lieu of flowers, donations in Buzz's memory may be made to the Central Vermont Human Society, PO Box 687, Montpelier, Vt. 05601, the Vermont Foodbank, PO Box 254, South Barre, Vt. 05670, or Central Vermont Home Health & Hospice, Inc. 600 Granger Road, Barre, Vt. 05641
