....show LYNDONVILLE - Claire M. Domina, 81, formerly of Rochester, died Monday morning, Oct. 4, 2010 at her home in Lyndonville, with her loving family at her side. She was born Aug. 28, 1929 in Berkshire, the daughter of Jean-Baptist and Antonia (Charron) Brodeur. Claire worked for over 40 years as a mill worker at Weyerhauser Corp. in Hancock, retiring in 1996. Following retirement, she became active with the Quinn-Town Senior Center and delivered meals on wheels until August 2006. A strong and self supporting woman, Claire's family was always her first priority. She enjoyed her independence, gardening, knitting, bird watching, taking trips throughout central Vermont, driving friends and neighbors to various appointments, and taking care of her feline companion, Tally. She was also active in her church, St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Rochester. Survivors include her daughter, Diane Willson and her companion, David Burrington, of Newark; four grandchildren, Janet Willson, Timothy Willson, Daniel Willson, and Allen Willson; two brothers, Alphonse Brodeur and wife, Helen, of Albuquerque, N.M., and Larry Brodeur of Middlebury; nieces, nephews, and many friends. She was predeceased by her parents; three brothers, John, Adrian, and infant, Lucien Brodeur; three sisters, Rolande Domina, Marie Blanchard, and Irene Newton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in Lyndonville on Friday, Oct. 8 at 11 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, with the Rev. Dwight Baker Celebrant. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery in Richford at approximately 2:45 p.m. Friends may call on the family Friday morning at the Guibord Funeral Home from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. before the Mass. DOROTHY "DOT" DONAHUE
....show BURLINGTON - Dorothy Donahue, 94, died peacefully at Starr Farm Nursing Center on Thursday, Feb. 11, 2010. Dorothy was born in St. Johnsbury on Nov. 20, 1915, the daughter of Ernest and Winifred Pepin. She attended St. Johnsbury schools and married Francis G. Donahue on Sept. 3, 1937. They moved to Burlington from St. Johnsbury in 1954, and she was widowed in 1956. Dot, along with her husband, was one of Stowe's "pioneer" skiers. She was an avid golfer and member of the Burlington Country Club for almost forty years. Her greatest accomplishment, however, was raising her three young daughters Pat, Kathy and Terry after her husband's sudden and tragic death. She is survived by her daughters, Patricia (Pat) and her husband Dr. Chris Terrien Jr., Kathleen Johnson (Kathy), and Terry and her husband Jack Royer. She also leaves seven grandchildren; Courtney Terrien Kagan, Dr. Paige Terrien Church, Dr. Christopher Terrien III, Brock and Courtney Johnson and Travis and Tyler Royer, as well as six great-grandchildren; Alexandra, Caroline and Christopher Kagan, Elizabeth Paige Church, and William and Ellie Terrien. One brother, Reginald Pepin, also survives. She was predeceased by her husband, Francis; her parents; two brothers and a sister. The family wishes to thank the kind and caring staffs of The Pillars, The Arbors and Starr Farm Nursing Center for Dorothy's care during the last ten years of her life. There will be a prayer service at 1 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 15, 2010 at Corbin and Palmer Funeral Home, 71 South Union St., Burlington, VT. Burial will be in St Johnsbury in the Spring. ....show WASHINGTON - Constance Flint Donovan, 80, of VT Route 110, died Friday morning, Nov. 26, 2010, in the Woodridge Nursing Home in Berlin. Born March 18, 1930 in Barre, she was the daughter of Clarence M. and Phyllis A. (McDonald) Flint. She attended elementary school in Washington, was a 1948 graduate of Spaulding High School in Barre, and was a 1952 graduate of the University of Vermont, where she received a Bachelor's Degree in Education. For a few years, Connie taught school at the Taft Elementary School in Burlington and later served as a substitute teacher for Washington Village School. On Aug. 28, 1954, she married George A. Donovan in the Washington Baptist Church. They lived most of their married life in Washington. He died Jan. 23, 2004. Connie was a lifelong active member of the Washington Baptist Church, where she served as a Sunday school teacher and Superintendent of the Sunday School. In 1997, she received Washington's Citizen of the Year Award. She was also active in the Washington Historical Society and spent many hours gathering and organizing the town's history and photographs. This year, she was recognized by the Historical Society with its Spirit of Washington Award being given to her. Her other interests were sewing, mending, flower and vegetable gardening, baking, walks in the woods, and wild flowers. In earlier years, she enjoyed skiing and riding her toboggan, giving piano lessons to others, and being active in the Washington PTA. Survivors include her three sons, Bruce Donovan and his wife, Eileen of Barre, James Donovan and his wife, Diane of Winchester, Mass., and George Donovan and his wife, Robin of South Burlington; her two daughters, Norma Donovan of Randolph Center, and Lois Donovan of Woodstock; seven grandchildren, Jennafer, Jackson, Robin, Karen, Samantha, Heather, and Lauren Donovan; her sister, Maxine Griffith of Williston; and one niece and two nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Elizabeth Flint. Her funeral service will be held on Monday, Nov. 29, 2010, at 2:30 p.m. in the Washington Baptist Church. ....show VIENNA, Va. - Daniel Bryan Doty, age 50, of Vienna, Va. died Thursday, Oct. 14, 2010. He was Chief Border Patrol Agent of Swanton Sector in Swanton. He is survived by his two children, Kyley Doty and Dylan Doty of Herndon, Va.; and their mother, Patricia Doty. Also surviving are his significant other, Paula Bennett of Vienna; and his sister, Pamela (Matt) Piester of Herndon. Dan will be greatly missed by the many friends he has made over the years; as well as all of his friends and colleagues with the U.S. Border Patrol. Maurice was a poet, musician and active participant in local politics. He is survived by his wife, Kim and their four children; Emily, Marley, Isabel and Satchel, and also leaves behind many,many good friends. ....show BRANDON - After a long illness, Aline Douglas died on Oct. 28, 2010. She was born on Aug. 11, 1930 to Dominique and Leonie (Bercier) Boisvenue in Whiting. She was educated in Whiting, Middlebury, and Brandon schools, graduating from Brandon High School in 1949. She married Raymond (Corky) Douglas on Oct. 5, 1950 in Leicester. Aline and Corky celebrated 60 years of marriage on Oct. 5, 2010. Aline and Corky raised their family in Whiting, Rutland, and Weybridge, before retiring in Brandon. Aline worked at Van Raalte and Standard Register in Middlebury, while raising her large family. They also enjoyed many happy years at their winter home in Port Orange, Fla., before returning to Vermont in recent years. Her interests included genealogy, history, current events, and reading. She was adept at cooking, baking, crafts, quilting, knitting, and sewing and used these skills to meet the needs of a growing family. She leaves her husband, Raymond (Corky) Douglas of Brandon; and children, Jeanne Douglas (Gary Myers) of Essex Junction, Dianne Prevo (James Prevo) of Richmond, Jerald (Jerry) Douglas (Alicia Wallett- Cassidy) of Goshen, Karen Douglas (Kevin Henry) of Fair Oaks, Calif., Carol Douglas of Barre, and Carmen Douglas of Salisbury. She was a loving Memere to grandchildren, Cody Douglas, Douglas Prevo, Timothy Prevo, James, Catherine, and Aaron Dooley. She also leaves one great-grandchild, Memphis Dooley of California. She is also survived by her brother, Albert Boisvenue; several cousins, nieces and nephews in the US and Canada, and friends in Vermont and Florida. Aline was predeceased by her parents, Dominique and Leonie Boisvenue; brother, John Paul Boisvenue, who was killed in action in Korea; and brother, Armand Boisvenue. She also had a brother and sister who died in infancy. ....show MORIAH, N.Y. - David (Mike) Douglas, 72, of Moriah died Sunday, Feb. 7, 2010, at Elizabethtown Community Hospital following a three year battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born July 5, 1937, in Proctor, Vt., the son of Patrick and Bessie (Grace) Douglas. He grew up and attended schools in Brandon, Vt. Mike served his country for a brief time in the US Air Force, from where he received a medical discharge. He was a mason and longtime member of St. Paul's Lodge #25 in Brandon. Mike has spent several years as a member of the Shriners, and was proud to be one of the original founders of the Greater Burlington Cellar Savers. He was a lifemember of VFW Post 7823 in Middlebury; member and past commander of the American Legion Post 55 in Brandon, and life member of the D.A.V. after moving from Salisbury, to Moriah in 2002. He was a volunteer driver for the Essex County Office of the Aging and the D.A.V. Mike worked several years in automotive sales and retired from Champlain Construction in Middlebury, Vt. in 1998. His special interests were model trains and traveling in his motor home. Mike is survived by his wife, Shirley of Moriah; two sons, Patrick of Leicester, Vt. and Christopher of Rutland, their mother Shirley of Leicester; two step-daughters, Sheryl Paquette and her husband Michael of Cornwall, Vt. and Theresa Flood and her husband John of Red Springs, N.C.; five stepgrandsons, Dan, Tyler and Brian Paquette, Levi Flood and his wife Alicia and Caleb Flood; his brothers Dan of Brandon, Raymond and his wife Aline of Brandon; his sisters, Mary Trombley of Rutland, and Virginia (Polly) Peletier of Salisbury, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son David and a step-son Robert Newton; his parents, sisters, Elizabeth and Marguerite (Minnie); and four brothers, Wilson, John, Robert and Patrick. Mike will be missed by his many friends. To him- no one was a stranger. Calling hours will be held Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2010, from 10 to 12 a.m. at the Harland Funeral Home in Port Henry, N.Y. ....show RICHMOND - Leon Patrick Dowd, 83, died Monday, January 4, 2010, in Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington. Leon was born on Sept. 7, 1926, in Burlington the son of the late Patrick Joseph Dowd and Gladys (Bradley) Dowd. He attended school in Richmond and was active on the family farm all of his life. He married Blanche B. Bessette on Sept. 1, 1956, in Richmond at Holy Rosary Church. She survives him. He also leaves two children; Cheryl Lynne Dowd and her partner Wayne Ploof, Brian Bradley Dowd and his partner Angie Zeno, grandchildren; Kevin Dowd of Burlington, Brandy Dowd of Richmond, Shauna Roy of Hinesburg, and his two "adopted grandchildren" Ashley Zeno and Cameron Tilley. He also leaves his sisters, Alice Sandwell of Richmond, Helen Randall of Massachusetts, sister-in-law Shirley Bean of Charlotte and several nieces and nephews as well as special friends, Faith and Tom Weunschel, Anne O'Brien and Betty Mahoney. Leon was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church in Richmond where he ushered for many years. He also belonged to Beacon Light Grange # 557 of Richmond for 58 years and held many offices throughout the years. He also was the Past President of Hale and Hearty Senior Group. Leon loved farming, working the soil and caring for animals. Besides his two children, he was a mentor to many youngsters who helped on the farm. He loved the land and crops and hoped that the young adults would love farming as much as he did. Leon was a kind, gentle man who always had a wonderful smile and joke to share. He had a great love of sugaring in the spring and found great joy in the final products. She was born July 12, 1917, in Johnson, the daughter of Alexander and Eva Mason Laraway. She married Ernest Andrew Draper on August 24, 1935, in Elmore. Meme was a loving mother and grandmother whose family and home were her life. She enjoyed square dancing and was a member of the Lamoille River Swingers for many years. She loved to travel to visit with her family whether it was Fla., Mass., or Iowa. She is survived by her children, Shirley Stickell and fiance Philip Kiefer of Colchester, and Sharon Cheney and husband Dean of Hyde Park; grandchildren, Deanne Cheney of Albany, N.Y. , Joshua Cheney and wife Heather of Hyde Park; and great-grandson, Jeremy Cheney of Hyde Park; sister, Helen Tanke of Millersburg, Iowa and brother, Francis Laraway of Morrisville; very special friends, Annie and James Wescom of Garfield; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; husband, Ernest , on June 14, 1973; and three brothers, Lawrence, Reginald and James Laraway. ....show BURLINGTON / WINOOSKI - Jeanette Lillian Drouin, born May 30, 1913, died May 25, 2010. Oh, the places she's been Oh, the places she's seen Jeanette Drouin's Ninety seven years Are now but a dream. She married Leon Drouin on Oct. 6, 1934 in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hillsboro, N.H. She was born in Manchester, N.H., the daughter of the late Archie and Marie Louise Cote, the oldest daughter of a family of nine. She was the last of her family to grace us with her presence. She was sent on her way with love. Jeanette leaves two loving and devoted daughters, Jackie Craig of Wantagh, N.Y. and Vivian Keppler of Gainesville, Fla.; six grandchildren, scattered from north to south, who gave her fifteen great-grandchildren. A special thanks to all of you who loved her so much and provided her with such wonderful care. Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family.

....show , 94, of South Burlington died on Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2010 in Starr Farm Nursing Center. She was born in Philadelphia, Pa. on Dec. 18, 1915, the daughter of the late Harry and Ita (McWilliams) Pinney. Kathleen worked in the sales department at J. C. Penney in Burlington for 18 years. She was a longtime member of St. John Vianney Parish. Kathleen had a great love of music, both reading and listening to audio tapes later in life when she lost her sight. She was a longstanding member of a Wednesday night sewing club that started during World War II and eventually became a weekly card club. She was a very independent, strong, and loving mother who raised seven children. Her Catholic faith kept her strong through the loss of four of her children and her siblings. Kathleen's family extends a special thanks to all the staff at Starr Farm for their loving care. Kathleen is survived by her daughters, Jeanne Bergeron of Burlington, Bobbi O'Connor of Delray Beach, Fla., Mary Schmitt and husband, Richard, of North Hero; 18 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren; two sons-in-law, Joseph Ferrier of Stafford, Va. and Roger Hazen of Burlington; two daughters-in-law, Laraine Duchaine of Essex Junction and Nancy Duchaine of South Burlington; and by many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sons, George and Gerard Duchaine; daughters, Kitty Hazen and Eileen Ferrier; a son-in-law, Larry Bergeron; her brothers, Harry, Larry, and Edward Pinney; and her sisters, Sr. Mary Gertrude and Madeline Petock. ....show , 72, died early Friday morning, Aug. 20, 2010 at the home of his sister, Anne, and nephew, Roger, in Milton. Richard was born on July 7, 1938 in Lakeside, Burlington, the son of Richard P. and Dolores (Tremblay) Duell. Richard graduated from Rice High School and had worked for the Howard Bank in Burlington for many years. He was a longtime resident of Winooski before moving to Milton in 2002 to live with his sister, Anne, and nephew, Roger Granger. Uncle "Rich," as he was known by his nephews, loved children and enjoyed being an umpire for Little League Baseball in Burlington for many years. He also loved to go fishing with his nephews and friend, Mike Carpenter, on Lake Champlain. He also enjoyed gardening and singing in his early years. In addition to his sister, Anne C. Granger of Milton, Richard is survived by his sister, Phyllis C. Murphy of Northfield; and by his nephews and their spouses, Roger Granger, Norman and Bonnie Granger, George and Elizabeth Murphy, and Sean and Lori Murphy; several great nieces and nephews; and his longtime friends, the Carpenters of Lakeside, Burlington, where Richard spent many Saturday evenings. Special thanks are extended to the Hospice of the VNA. Without them, Richard's stay at home would not have been possible. Also special thanks to the staff at Birchwood Terrace for the excellent care given during his stay. To meet him was to meet a friend, to know him was a gift, to love him was to be blessed. ....show HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. / BURLINGTON, Vt. - Janet Dunn, 79, of Hendersonville, died Feb. 24, 2010. Born June 27, 1930 she was the daughter of the late Earl and Margaret Canfield. She grew up in Essex, Conn., educated at Northfield School for Girls in East Northfield, Mass. and a graduate of Smith College. She then lived in Simsbury, Conn. with her husband and two young sons, Christopher and Jeffery. In 1965, Janet and her family moved to Burlington, Vt., where she had lived for 38 years. Becoming independent, she immersed herself in the real estate business with her own office and was involved with the REALTOR Association, locally and statewide, serving as president of the local board of REALTORS and as state director. She was also on the City of Burlington's Waterfront Board and active in the Burlington Lion's Club, twice serving as the King Lion. In 2003, Janet moved to Clarksburg, W. Va., to get to know her grandchildren, and in 2007 again moved, this time to Carolina Village in Hendersonville, N.C. She is survived by two wonderful and supportive sons, Christopher and his wife Kathleen of Denver, Colo. and Jeffery and his wife Peggy of Clifton Park, N.Y., four grand children: JJ, Meghan, Ryan and Conner, and two brothers, David Canfield and his wife Anne, of Amuchy, N.J., and Earl Canfield and his wife Johanna, of Ames, Iowa, one niece and four nephews. Janet was passionate about politics, loved to dance, she had a great sense of humor and style and was an advocate for all animals. Janet especially loved taking trips with her brother David and his wife Anne to places that she had always wanted to visit. She will be missed greatly by all of her friends and family who knew that she could be relied upon to do whatever was needed and to always share her smile. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

....show WILLISTON - Patricia Duperron, 81, of Williston died on Saturday, Aug. 28, 2010 in Williston. She was born on May 13, 1929 in Farmington, ME, a daughter of the late Gertrude McHugh Bliss and William McHugh. She leaves behind her husband of more than 50 years, Albert Duperron of Williston; a daughter, Linda Duperron Lang of Greenfield, Mass.; grandchildren, Sarah and Jeremy Rector of Essex Junction; brother, "Jim" Ernest Bliss, Jr. and his wife Myra of Ashland, Wis.; sister Cecelia McHugh Coffrin and her husband John of White River Junction; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, George McHugh of Enfield, N.H. Patricia and Albert lived in West Lebanon for more than 30 years where Patricia worked at Sears Roebuck for 30 years retiring in 1986. Following her retirement the couple settled in Williston. Patricia and Albert enjoyed traveling and for 10 years wintered in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Patricia enjoyed working in her flower gardens, cooking, sewing, and oil painting. Her favorite times were with Albert and their grandchildren at the coast of Maine gathering sand dollars. ....show , 85, of Williston, and formerly of the Upper Valley, died on Monday, Sept. 20, 2010 in the Fletcher Allen Health Center in Burlington after a brief illness. He was born Jan. 15, 1925 in Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada, a son of the late George and Grace (Sterling) Duperron. Albert served in the Canadian Army in World War II from 1943 – 1945, and was captured in Germany in 1944, but managed to escape prison camp along with three other POWs. He moved to the United States in 1953, and in 1956 he met and married his beloved wife, Patricia. While living in New Hampshire, he worked at the Valley News for six years and then at Split Ball Bearing (Timkin) for 28 years. After retiring, they moved to Williston in 1986, and he and Patricia enjoyed traveling, spending time in Maine with his grand- children, and for 10 years wintering in Myrtle Beach, S.C. He was a 46 year member of the American Legion Post 22 in Lebanon, as well as a charter member of the Lebanon Elks Lodge # 2099. Albert was an avid Red Sox fan and loved watching "his" F-16 jets fly by his home in Williston. He enjoyed life and made lasting friendships where ever he lived. He will be missed by all his family and friends. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 54 years, Patricia, on Aug. 28, 2010; as well as his four brothers and one sister. He leaves behind a daughter, Linda Duperron Lang and her partner, Roy Ramsdell, of Greenfield, Mass.; grandchildren, Sarah Rector of Burlington, Jeremy Rector and his girlfriend, Julianne Stemp, of Hyde Park; two sons, Danny and Randy Waterman of NV, and their families; a brother-in-law, "Jim" Ernest Bliss Jr. and his wife, Myra; a sister-in-law, Cecelia Coffrin and her husband, John, of White River Jct.; along with several nieces and nephews. ....show KEENE, N.H. - Peter G. DuPuy 63, of West Surry Road, Keene, N.H., died Sunday evening, May 16, 2010 at the Catholic Medical Center in Manchester, N.H., following a brief illness. He was born in Pittsburgh, Pa., March 25, 1947, the son of Charles M. and Lois (Graham) DuPuy. He resided in Ligonier, Pa. before moving to Greenwich, Conn., at an early age. He was a graduate of the Fay School and Taber Academy in Marion, Mass. He attended McMurray College in Ohio. A resident of North Hampton, Mass. for several years, Mr. DuPuy was a renowned international collector and exhibitor of stamps. He was a member of the US Philatelic Society, Inc., the American Philatelic Association, a member and past board member of The Philatelic Foundation, and a member of the New Hampshire and Vermont Philatelic Society. He moved from North Hampton to Fitzwilliam, N.H. where he resided for two years before moving to Keene in 1985. He was a model railroad enthusiast and enjoyed spending many hours working on his model trains. He was rank in the top 100 players with the New Hampshire Chess Society. He collected antique cars and was an avid sports fan. He was a longtime New England patriots and Boston Red Sox fan. He is survived by his partner and wife of 21 years, Jess DuPuy of Keene, N.H.; two daughters, Juliet Rozhon of Burlington and Jillian Reinegger and her husband Mike of Savannah, Ga.; a brother, Charles DuPuy and his wife Janet of Manchester, N.H., two sisters; Susette Lyons and her husband Charles of North Hampton, Mass. and Aimee Whitman and her husband Harold of Bedford Hills, N.Y.; as well as several nieces, nephews, greatnieces, great-nephews, and 6 grand-dogs and 5 grand- kitties. She was born in Richmond, Feb. 2, 1917, the daughter of Sidney and Gladys (Riggs) Smith. Sarah was a longtime resident of Richmond and an active member of the Community. She was a foster grandparent for 20 years, a faithful member of the Richmond Congregational Church, and a volunteer for many local organizations. She is survived by her devoted daughter, June Montagna-Turbiville and her husband, William, of Connecticut; five grand- children; 11 great-grand- children; and her sister, Edna Andrews of Essex Junction; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Arden R. Durand; her daughter, Nancy E Tielsch; three sisters; and one brother. ....show BURLINGTON - Jack E. Durett, 80, died Monday, Nov. 22, 2010 at his home in Burlington. He was born on July 3, 1930 in Morrisville, the son of Wayne E. and Hortense (Shackett) Durett. He was a graduate of Burlington High School and later earned a Bachelor of Arts degree at UVM in 1953, where he participated in track and field and was a member of the Edwin W. Lawrence debate team. He worked in financial services and insurance for most of his professional life and ran agencies for Franklin Life and later American General from his office on Clark St. in Burlington. A dynamic regional manager, he was the recipient of numerous awards and recognitions at local and national levels of the industry throughout his career. In his earlier working years, he was an active fixture in the restaurant, nightclub, and music community as both a business proprietor and also as a musician playing the drums with several jazz bands and orchestras. He had a great love and admiration for the outdoors. From spring until fall he spent most of his free time on the lake. He loved sailing and entertaining with friends and family on his boats, which were kept for many years at Mallets Bay Marina in Colchester. He was an active hunter, fisherman, and wildlife conservationist. He served as a vice president of Ducks Unlimited, was a member of the Addison Goose Club, and donated much of his time to youth hunter education and habitat management programs. Jack was predeceased by his younger brother, Conrad, in 2004. He is survived by his six children, Jack Durett, Jr. and his wife, Nancy, in Baltimore, Md., Chris Brown and her husband, Jack, in Baltimore, Md., Nancy Nielson and her husband, John, in Baltimore, Md., Jim Durett and his wife, Darlene, in Colchester, Damon Durett and his wife, Sandra, in Baltimore, Md., and Eric Durett in Charlotte. He is also survived by his four grandchildren, Sara, Alex, Elise, and Daniel; and two great-grandchildren, Dylan and Sean. Jack's family gives special thanks to all his friends who were able to be near him and to stay in touch with him in his final days, and to the V.N.A. and Homeshare Vermont for their kindness and wonderful work. There will be no public memorial service. A family gathering will be held in his honor.
PHYLLIS OVITT (DUDLEY) DUSO
....show EAST MONTPELIER - Phyllis Ovitt (Dudley) Duso, 90, passed away on January 25, 2010, in Altamonte Springs, Fla. She was born Dec. 1, 1919, in Bakersfield, to the late Homer D. Ovitt and Maude L. Barnes. She was the wife of the late John P. (Perk) Dudley of East Montpelier, who died suddenly in 1961. In 1969, she married Carmi J. Duso of Enosburg Falls. They lived in East Montpelier until his death in 2005. She is survived by her son, James C. Dudley and his wife, Faith, of Cincinnati, OH, and her daughter, Charlene McIntire and her husband, Jonathan, of Longwood, Fla., as well as six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Phyllis graduated from Brigham Academy in Bakersfield, and Johnson Normal School (State College), Johnson. She was employed as an elementary teacher in East Montpelier. She was instrumental in reopening the Old Brick Church in East Montpelier which had been unused for several years when she came to town. She served as organist and choir director and faithful member during the 60 years she lived in town. In the 1950's she directed popular home-town minstrel shows. She was honored as Vermont Mother of the Year in 1967. With Carmi, she traveled to all 50 states and throughout Europe. Donations may be made to the Old Brick Church in East Montpelier.

He was born in Burlington April 8, 1965, son of E. Paul and Rebecca (Livingston) Dutil. Following graduation from Milton High School, he was employed at Kenneth Adams Construction, later for John McKenzie Packing Co and for the past 11 years at Peerless Clothing Co. His survivors include his son, Jeffrey R. Dutil of Colchester; parents, Paul and Becky Dutil of South Burlington; special friend, Corrine Maxham of St. Albans; two brothers, James and Karen Dutil of Milton, and David and Kimiko Dutil of Birmingham, Ala.; several aunts, uncles and cousins. ....show SANFORD, ME - Richard C. East, 88, of Sanford, ME died on Monday, Oct. 25, 2010 in Greenwood Center of Sanford, ME. Richard was born in Lancaster, OH on Oct. 17, 1922 and attended local schools. As a young man, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served for 20 years. In 1948, he married Eleanor Fortier and together they raised two children. After retiring from the military, Richard moved to Vermont where he purchased a dairy farm, which he owned and operated for 24 years until 1988. In 2005, he and Eleanor moved to Sanford, ME to be closer to family. Richard was athletic and enjoyed sports all of his life. He played football and ran track in school, and after retiring from farming, he enjoyed cycling. He remained an avid Ohio State football fan all of his life. He will be remembered as a kind and loving father and grandfather, and will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Richard was predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Eleanor East. He is survived by a daughter, Robin Crown and her husband, William, of Needham, Mass.; a son, Wesley East and his wife, Jill, of Sanford; and a granddaughter, Sarah Rundell and her husband, Matthew, of Ohio. She was born Dec. 7, 1924, in Blue Hill, Maine, the daughter of Harvey E. and Annie ( Chapman ) Torrey. She was predeceased by her husband Ulysses"Les" Eaton and two brothers, Willard "Bill" Torrey and Charles Torrey, two sisters Muriel Gibbs and Frances Sprague and half sister Dorothy Pucci. Edna lived in Connecticut, driving school buses and managing the schedule and she eventually went to work for the town of Wilton, Conn. as head of the school transportation department. She was fondly known as the "School Bus Lady" . Edna moved to Vermont in 1999 to be near her brother's family. She is survived by two sisters, Fausta and her husband Gordon Emerson of Blue Hill, Maine, Alice Donovan of Manchester, N.H. and one brother, Thornton "Bud"and his wife Doris Torrey of South Burlington, and her many nieces and nephews in VT, NH, AZ, NJ, and ME. Many thanks to nieces and nephews who gave her support. A special thanks to her grandniece Michelle McNamara who gave her both religious support and loving care. ....show PORTLAND, Ore. - David I. Eckerson, 48, formerly of Clinton, N.Y. and Burlington, died unexpectedly on Sept. 20, 2010 in Portland, Ore., where he resided. He was surrounded by his loving family when he died. David was born on Sept. 15, 1962 in Utica, N.Y. to the late Floyd and Nancy Eckerson, formerly of Clinton, N.Y. and Burlington. He was the youngest of five children. David attended the Clinton School district until 1978 when his family moved to Burlington. While in Clinton, David played hockey and continued as a stand-out hockey player at both Mt. Mansfield Union High School and South Burlington High School. David graduated from South Burlington High School in 1980. He was a natural athlete and excelled in many sports, including tennis and golf. His love of hockey continued throughout his life as did his love for music. David may be best remembered for all he did for others. He was a true friend to countless many who cherished his sense of humor, generous spirit and endless energy. On Sept. 9, 2010, David and a colleague from work rescued an 89 year old woman from her burning home. This brave attempt made the front page of the Oregonian newspaper the following day. David had a genuine interest in people and was always taking the time to lend a helping hand. David was employed at Banfield, Inc. as a Facilities Coordinator in Portland, Ore., where he received many employee recognition awards for his outstanding work. David's family and friends will feel his loss profoundly. He was a loving father and brother, and is survived by his loving partner, Courtney Cox, and his four adored children, Kathryne, MacKenzie, Connor and Rian. In addition to his immediate family, David is survived by his brother, Steve, of Ontario, Calif.; his sister, Dawn and brother-in- law, Andy Ryan, of Pittsford, N.Y., Holly Eckerson of South Burlington, and Wendy and brother-in-law, Timothy Miller, of Essex. He is also survived by his loving nieces, Sarah, Katie and Emily; nephews, Brad, Alex and Aaron; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. David will be missed by his good friends, Al Mandile of California and Chris Sandberg of Portland, Ore. A celebration of David's life was held privately on Sept. 25, 2010 in Portland, Ore.

....show HINESBURG - Anna T. Eiker was born April 24, 1910 in Cranbury, N.J. Anna died peacefully on May 26, 2010 in Fletcher Allen Hospital surrounded by her family. Anna married Karl W. Eiker of Cranbury, N.J. in 1933 and was predeceased by him in Dec. 1972. Anna lived in the Cranbury area 80+ years before moving to Hinesburg to be closer to her family. Anna recently enjoyed celebrating her 100th birthday with numerous relatives and friends. Anna enjoyed attending the senior meals on Fridays in Hinesburg and until in her late 80's would still be seen walking to Lantman's for her groceries. Anna is survived by her three children, Fred Eiker and wife, Rebecca of Dothan, Ala., Karla Munson and husband, George of Hinesburg, and Jane Seger and family of St. Paul, Minn. Anna also leaves 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grand- children, and 2 great, greatgrandchildren. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, June 2 at 11 a.m. in the Osborne Parish House of the United Church in Hinesburg, with a light lunch after. ....show RUTLAND TOWN - James Elnicki, 86, died Saturday March 13, 2010, at the Meadows at East Mountain in Rutland. Jim was born on April 27, 1923, in Florence, Vt. the son of Michael and Mary (Paszuchane) Elnicki. He married his high school sweetheart Phyllis Rivers of Pittsford on Oct. 21, 1952. Jim grew up in Florence and was dratfed into active duty from 1948 to 1949 before joining the Army Reserves for a total of 30 years service. He was employed by FP Elnicki, and Earth Waste Management for several years working with his brother Frank and cotinued working with Casella Waste Management until the age of 80, when Phyllis told him no more working, she wanted him to stay home with her all day. Jim enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and visiting his great grandson on his first birthday. He also enjoyed snowmobiling, hunting, ice fishing and just sitting outside his home watching the cars go up and down Killington Avenue. Survivors include his wife Phyllis of 57 years of Rutland Town; three daughters Valerie (Bill) Fitzgerald of Winooski, Lynn (Joe) Shugrue of Lawrenceville, Ga., and Vicki (Jeff) Saulsbury of Rutland; a brother Charles (Aline) Elnicki of Florence; two sisters Pauline McMahon of Rutland and Mildred Higgins; grandchildren Nicholas Shugrue, Pappas Boy and Samantha (Boodie) Shugrue of Lawrenceville, Ga., and Tory and Ryan Fitzgerald of Winooski; a great grandson Cameron James Shugrue of Lawrenceville, Ga., and several nieces and nephews. ....show WILLIAMSTOWN - Lorraine Knox Emmons, 96, a former resident of the Gardens, died Saturday, May 15, 2010, at the Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin. Born on May 5, 1914, in Hinesburg, she was the daughter of William and Jennie (Clifford) Knox. She attended elementary school in Hinesburg and graduated from Hinesburg High School. On Sept. 12, 1935, she married Howard H. Emmons. Following their marriage, they made their home in several Vermont communities; Richmond, Hinesburg, Bristol and Barre, before moving to Williamstown. He died in 2000. In earlier years, she had worked at a woolen mill in Winooski as a seamstress, and for over 20 years as a guide at the Shelburne Museum. While living in Barre, she worked at the Sprague Electric Company. Lorraine was affiliated with the First Baptist Church in Bristol, and had been a member of the Grange and Eastern Star. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, sewing and gardening. Survivors include her sons, Paul Emmons and his wife, Nancy, of Topsfield, Mass., and Mark Emmons and his wife, Peggy, of Barre Town; seven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Besides her parents and husband; her half brother, William Knox Jr. predeceased her. Her funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 20, 2010 at 5 p.m. in the Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy Street, Barre. Friends may call at the funeral home one hour before the service from 4 to 5 p.m. Interment will take place in the Starksboro Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
