, 47, of Colchester died unexpectedly this spring. He was born November 14, 1962, in New Britain, Connecticut, the beloved son of Jerry Martel and the late Pauline Lesage. He graduated from Lake Region Union High School in 1980 and later from Eastern Michigan University. Mr. Martel was a gifted artist and photographer. He loved skiing and the outdoors. He is survived by his father, Gerard Martel, and his wife, Judy, of Orleans; two children: Christian Martel of Falmouth, Massachusetts, and Mason Martel of Westford; two brothers, Robert Martel of Barton and Edward Tinker of Sydney, Australia; three sisters: Lee-Anne Martin and her husband, Tom, of Moretown, Tracie Yindra and her husband, Chris, of Huntington, and Cindy Steele of Phoenix, Arizona; and by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother, Pauline, and by a brother, Paul. Funeral services were held at St. Theresa's Church in Orleans on May 8 with the Reverend Sixmund Nyabenda celebrating a Mass.
George Chalmers McKelvey Jr.

, 85, of North Haverhill, New Hampshire, died on May 8, 2010, at Cottage Hospital in Woodsville, New Hampshire. He was born in Lowell, Massachusetts, on July 28, 1924, a son of George Chalmers and Doris (Hird) McKelvey. He graduated from Lowell High School in 1942. While there, he was a member of the band and played at the World's Fair in New York in 1939. He attended the University of New Hampshire (UNH) and played solo trumpet with the UNH band. In his sophomore year, he was drafted into the U.S. Army where he remained from 1943-1946. After attending his basic training at Fort McClellan, Alabama, he was assigned to the Anti-Tank Company of the 326 Glider Infantry Regiment of the 13th Airborne Division in the European Theater. Later he marched down Fifth Avenue in New York City in the famous victory parade with the 82nd Airborne. He completed his service at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Upon his return to civilian life, he went back to UNH where he received a bachelor's degree in history in 1949 and a master's degree in history in 1950. From 1950-1952, Mr. McKelvey served as principal of the North Hampton Elementary School. From 1952-1953, he taught at the Woodsville Elementary School in Woodsville. The following year, he became the teaching principal there until 1969. When the Woodsville and Haverhill school districts combined, he was appointed full-time principal of the then K-8 schools, Woodsville elementary and the James R. Morrill School in North Haverhill. He remained at the two schools until retiring in 1980. He enjoyed listening to and collecting big band music. Traveling, golf, reading, and sports (especially the Red Sox, Celtics, Patriots, and Bruins) were his passions, and his family meant the world to him. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mary (Downs) McKelvey; their son George C. McKelvey III and his wife, Judy, of Newport; granddaughter Meredith of Boston, Masachusetts; his sister-in-law Eleanor Riordan of Dover, New Hampshire; and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by four generations of the Kimball and Morrill families who have been best friends and neighbors for 54 years. A funeral service was held on May 12 with Gerry Brooks officiating. Bertha Nora O'Gorman

died on May 4, 2010, in Newport. She was born on January 3, 1921, in St. Giles, Quebec, a daughter of Nicholas O'Gorman and Rose Bagley. Her family moved to Island Pond in 1927 where Ms. O'Gorman attended St. Mary's Academy, graduating in 1938. Ms. O'Gorman worked 27 years for the A&P Company, first in its Island Pond store, then in Montpelier, Barre and Gorham, New Hampshire. She completed her career as a bookkeeper at the Mountain View House in Whitefield, New Hampshire. She was an active participant in numerous community organizations, among them the Brighton American Legion Auxiliary, Random Ladies Club, Catholic Daughters of America, and St. Mary's Alumni. She was renowned for helping others in any way she could. Within her extended family, she was everyone's "godmother." Ms. O'Gorman was predeceased by her parents and 11 siblings. She leaves her sisters-in-law: Muriel O'Gorman and Dorothy O'Gorman; and several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and -nephews, and great-great-nieces and -nephews. Her funeral Mass was celebrated at St. James the Greater in Island Pond on May 8 with burial at Lakeside Cemetery.
Evelyn M. Petelle

, 87, of Derby Line died in Newport on May 8, 2010. She was born on November 11, 1922, a daughter of Henry and Octavia (Brooks) Valley. On April 28, 1946, she married Raymond Petelle, who predeceased her. Mrs. Petelle worked as a secretary for many years at Butterfields and the former Edwin Earle Insurance Agency. She was an active member of St. Edward's Catholic Church and the Ladies Alter Society. She was also an RSVP volunteer and helped out for several years in Joan Sbara's third-grade class in that capacity. She also enjoyed making arts and crafts and taking trips with her late husband. Mrs. Petelle is survived by her son Russell Petelle and his wife, Anne Marie, of Derby Line; and by the following grandchildren: Heidi Santaw and her husband, Shawn, Raymond Beauchesne and his wife, Vicki, Rebecca Petelle and her companion, Kevin Purcell, Regan Vaine and her husband, Jerry, Skyler Boushel, Paul and Hannah Chambers; and by the following great-grandchildren: Abigail and T.J. Santaw, Joshua, Ryan, Alex, and Landon Beauchesne, Maddie and Daven Vaine. She was predeceased by a son, Darrell Petelle, and by a daughter, Phyllis Beauchesne. Funeral services were held on May 11 at St. Edward's Catholic Church in Derby Line where a Mass was celebrated. Interment followed in St. Edward's Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Grenier Major; his son, Daniel Major; his daughters, Rachel Carr and her husband, Michael, of Bellingham, Washington, Loraine Bullis and her husband, David, of Barre, and Cynthia Gardyne and her husband, Scot, of Newport; by six grandsons: Casey and Kyle Major, Douglas and Jeffrey Carr, and Shawn and Scott Bullis; three brothers: Andrew Major, Paul Major, and John Major. , 87, of Derby died peacefully on April 27, 2010, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born September 29, 1922, in Granville, a son of Clyde and Bessie ( Manning) Campbell. On January 19, 1972, he married Lorinda Yantz who survives him. He entered the U.S. Navy where he was on the USS Enterprise and served during WWII in the Pacific Theater as a radar operator. He enjoyed working with farm animals and retired as a dairy farmer from Routhier Farms in Bloomfield. He is survived by his wife, Lorinda Campbell, of Derby; his son Matthew Campbell and his companion, Kim Roberge of Newport Center; by his granddaughter, Liza Campbell; by several nieces and nephews; and by his three dogs, three cats, and two birds. He was predeceased by a brother and three sisters. Services will be held at the convenience of the family. , 77, of Newport died April 24, 2010, in Zepherhills, Florida. He was born November 28, 1932, in Derby, a son of Charles and Winifred (Lemere) Carpenter. On September 12, 1953, he married Sfa Flynn who predeceased him on September 16, 2005. Mr. Carpenter was a dairy farmer and a truck driver for the former W.S. Mitchell. He held memberships with the Benevolent Order of the Elks #2155 where he was a life member, and he was also a former member of the Grange. He enjoyed camping. He is survived by his children: Steve Carpenter of Derby, Ken Carpenter and his wife, Paula, of St. Johnsbury, Sally Carpenter of East Bolton, and James Carpenter Jr. of Lake Worth, Florida; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three brothers: Harold Carpenter and his wife, Lucille, of Dover, New Hampshire, Dale Carpenter and his wife, Sandra, of West Charleston, and Reginald Carpenter and his wife, Linda, of North Troy; his sisters-in-law Lois Carpenter of Derby and Diana Emmerson and her husband, Ernie, of Holland; brother-in-law David Flynn of Derby; his mother-in-law, Ruby Flynn, of Holland; and by his special friend, Sharon Jacobs of Newport. , 44, beloved father, son, brother and friend to many, died on April 27, 2010, in Jericho. He was born October 17, 1965, in Newport, a son of Lynda (Buchanan) Cole and the late Everett Cole. He fought a valiant and courageous battle with cancer for over a year. He did not give in and just lie on the couch but he got up and went nearly every day he could. His miracle was that he had this inner strength to do things his way. He graduated from North Country Union High School in 1983 and went to work for his dad at Cole and Webster, Inc., for many years. For a short time he had his own used car business. Then he worked at DeLabruere Auto Sales, and more recently he was employed by Courtesy car dealership. Mr. Cole was predeceased by his father, Everett "Mike" Cole in 2007. He is survived by his sons, Joshua and Anthony, and their mother, Rhonda; by his mother, Lynda Cole, of Derby; his brother Tim Cole and his wife, Tina, of Jericho; his sisters Connie Montague and her husband, David, of Charleston, Gayla Gosselin and her husband, Dan, of Derby, and Tracey Poulin and her husband, Jeff, of Derby; by special nieces and nephews: Cole, Jennifer, Ashley, Lauren, Chad, Roger, Jake, Alyssa, Samantha, ZaKary and their families and partners; and by many many friends. Funeral services were held on May 3 at the Church of God in Derby with the Reverend Laurence Wall officiating. , 76, of Troy died May 2, 2010, in Newport with her family at her side. She was born January 12, 1934, in Glocester, Rhode Island, a daughter of Frank and Vera (Taft) Howard. On June 13, 1956, she married Gerard Dutilly who predeceased her in 1977. Mrs. Dutilly was employed by Quill Pen Manufacturing in Cranston, Rhode Island, for many years. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, and making crafts. She is survived by her children: Charles Howard and his wife, Sherrie, of Derby, Paul Dutilly and his wife, Cathy, of Virginia, Beatrice Burke and her husband, Patrick, of Chepachet, Rhode Island, John Dutilly and his wife, Maria, of Danielson, Connecticut, and Christine Schneider and her husband, Timothy, of Cranston; by 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and her faithful companion, a dog named Belle. She was predeceased by a son, Edward Dutilly, in 2001. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 5, at the Acotes Cemetery in Chepachet, Rhode Island.

He was a son of the late Isabel McKinnon of Glen Sandfield, Ontario, and the late Archie Lacombe of Dalhousie, Quebec. He leaves to mourn his beloved partner of 38 years, Bryan Bowers; his beloved sister, Gertrude Sheppard of Toronto, Ontario; and two dear members of his extended family: Robert Knox of Montreal, Quebec, and Geegee Zaveson of Jay. He will also be much missed by many other members of his extended family, including his nieces Gail Lacombe deGruchy and her husband, Larry, of Montreal, Beverlee Lacombe Chivers and her husband, Tom, of Washington, Lynn Sheppard of Vancouver, British Columbia, Michele Sheppard of Toronto, Frances Lacombe Burnel, Mary Lacombe Thiele and her husband, Harry, Linda Lacombe Hewitt and her husband, Ted, Ann Lacombe, Marguerite Lacombe Dennis and her husband, Tim; his nephews: Lenny Lacombe, Kenny Lacombe, and Gordie Lacombe; very close cousins, Fred Forde of Toronto, John Lacombe of Rockwood, Ontario, Catherine (Mackinnon) Leroux of Ottawa, Ontario, and Dorothy Lacombe Wheeler of Coquitlam, British Columbia. His many friends in both the United States and Canada with whom he shared a mutual love of music, skiing, playing bridge, gourmet meals, jogging, good conversation and kindness will also miss him. Mr. Lacombe had a life full of wonderful experiences and unforgettable events. He attended Belmont Elementary School, Loyola High School, and Loyola College, and received his degree in education at l'Universite de Montreal in 1956. He was a teacher at Canon O'Meara (Point St.Charles) and at Holy Cross (Ville Emard) elementary schools, and at Cardinal Newman High School. He was assistant principal at John F. Kennedy High School in St. Michel from 1964 through 1969, principal at Pius Ninth High School from 1969 through 1971, William Hingston High School from 1971 through 1981, and Thomas D'Arcy McGee High School from 1981 to 1983. He retired in 1983 after 32 years in education with La Commission des Ecoles Catholiques de Montreal. Other accomplishments included being honored with a medal from Queen Elizabeth II while he was at William Hingston High School, and working closely with Tony Walsh, the founder of Benedict Labre House until Mr. Walsh took his retirement many years later. It was an exceptional life for an exceptional man. Following his cremation, he will be interred at a later date at the Mount Royal Cemetery in Montreal. At his request, there will be no funeral service, but the family is planning a gathering to celebrate his wonderful life at a date and time to be determined. She was born February 5, 1935, in Southbridge, Massachusetts, a daughter of James and Abbie (Howlett) Roberts. On April 21, 1963, she married Blair Warman who survives her. Mrs. Warman was a registered nurse. She was employed by the New England Memorial Hospital in Stoneham, Massachusetts, from 1957-1989. More recently she was employed by North Country Hospital in Newport, the Union House Nursing Home in Glover, and for the past ten years by Michaud Manor in Derby Line. She enjoyed cooking, family and hospitality. She held membership with the Seventh Day Adventist Church of Newport. She is survived by her husband, Blair Warman, of Newport; two children: James B. Warman and his wife, Michelle, Donna (Warman) Luna and her husband, Jose; five beloved grandchildren: Nathaniel Warman, Kaitlyn Warman, Lindsey Luna, Jose B. Luna, and Isabel Luna; a twin brother, Bud (Alfred) Roberts, and his wife, Edna, of South Lancaster, Massachusetts; and her brother-in-law Pastor William Dudgeon. She was predeceased by a brother, James Roberts, and a sister, Jane Roberts Dudgeon. A celebration of her life was held on May 3 at the Newport Baptist Church with Pastor Jose Luna officiating.
